OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Bassett is to star in the Netflix fantasy film ‘Damsel’.
The 63-year-old actress has joined Millie Bobby Brown in the upcoming movie, which is being helmed by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
The film follows a princess who is stunned to discover that she will be sacrificed to the kingdom’s sacred cave dragon after being married to her prince charming. She needs to survive long enough for someone to come and save her – but nobody is coming.
Angela will play Lady Bayford in the movie – the stepmother to Brown’s character Elodie. Dan Mazeau has written the script for the project with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum producing.
Meanwhile, Bassett will reprise her role as Ramonda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and thinks it could eclipse the original 2018 superhero film.
The ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ actress said: “It will be amazing. Our writer and director Ryan Coogler is the perfect leader. It’s gonna be amazing. It’s gonna top [the first] one. Can I say that?!”
The ‘Black Panther’ cast and crew were rocked by the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman – who passed away from cancer aged 43 in 2020 – who played the lead role of T’Challa in the first film and Angela says the new flick will honour the star’s legacy.
She said: “It’s going to be phenomenal and it’s going to pay tribute and it’s going to carry on that legacy.”
Angela also hailed director Ryan Coogler for his efforts in making the film despite the tragedy.
She explained: “But if there’s any chance of it being great, I think we have (that with) Ryan Coogler, a visionary, a writer, director and… the creative team that he surrounds himself with, whether it’s the DP or the costume designer or the producers.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pine feels that ‘All the Old Knives’ is a classic Hollywood movie.
The 41-year-old actor leads the cast of Janus Metz’s thriller and admits that he was gripped by the film – which also features Thandiwe Newton and Sir Jonathan Pryce – from the moment he read the script.
Speaking to the i newspaper, Chris said: “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read, front to back, cover to cover.
“It’s a great love story – it’s a romance like ‘Casablanca’ and ‘The English Patient’. It’s what Hollywood used to do really well… that I hope we have brought back to the screen.”
Pine also stars in the action thriller ‘The Contractor’ as former special forces sergeant James Harper – who takes up private contract work to support his family -and believes it is an intelligent take on violence and how it impacts on the world.
The ‘Star Trek’ actor explained: “You could say he’s protecting his life. And he is. But also along the way he decimates families. You’re rooting for a guy that has f****** killed people, a lot of people.
“What does this say about us? And what does that say about the idea of revenge? And what does that say about bloodlust? That’s what I’m particularly fascinated by.”
Chris has two decades of experience in the industry but revealed that he is still looking for recognition with his movies.
The ‘Wonder Woman’ star said: “I would be a liar to say that I’m not searching for some sort of critical success with these films.”
Despite his success, Pine admits that he isn’t desperate to be winning awards as “many” of his needs have been fulfilled.
He said: “Many of my needs are met. I don’t need more money. I don’t really covet awards. So the external validation that I wanted when I was a younger man, as those kind of fall away, I have to redefine my life in some ways, and it’s much scarier and weirder.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kiefer Sutherland is incredibly superstitious when on set for a film project.
When asked by Total Film magazine whether he is superstitious, the 55-year-old actor admitted that even though he knows it’s “stupid,” he carries out a lot of rituals when shooting.
He answered: “How long have you got? I’m a superstitious person — playing a music show, the one show where you didn’t wear your ring, you broke a string, so now you’ve got to wear it. Stupid stuff. I know it’s stupid, but even after we do this interview, I’ll look up to the sky and say, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say it was stupid.’”
The ‘Lost Boys’ star added that he also has a pretty specific daily routine when on set, which includes first making a cup of tea.
Kiefer explained: “[The first thing I do on set is] make a cup of tea, then go into hair and make-up. And once that’s sorted out, I’ll go down to set and do a rehearsal and a blocking, then go to work.”
When asked whether he’s ever stolen a prop from a set, the ‘24’ star joked that he’s only taken things that he’s “earned”.
He confessed: “Stolen is a bit of a strong word, but yes, there have been a few sets where I’ve felt I’ve earned an item or two. I have a lot of presidential ashtrays. The irony is, I didn’t remove them from the ‘Designated Survivor’ set, I removed them from President Palmer’s set way back on ‘24.’ I don’t smoke anymore so now I have guitar picks in them, or quarters.”
Stealing props wasn’t the only wild thing Kiefer got up to while starring as counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on ‘24’ from 2001 to 2014. The actor admitted that the wrap party for the show’s first season is “unequivocally” the wildest party he’s ever been to.
He revealed: “Absolutely, unequivocally, the best wrap party I’ve ever seen — the most chaotic — was the first season of ‘24.’ The head of the studio and the lady who had championed our script was there. Someone misidentified her and tackled her for fun. She’s on the ground.
“Another guy gets in a fight with his girlfriend and the police come — he’s handcuffed on the curb. Then he makes a run for it, and the police tackle him. I’m having a cigarette, looking around at our entire cast and crew lit to the gills, and I’m thinking, ‘This is gonna be the greatest show ever.’”

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Murphy is expected to reprise the role of Axel Foley in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’.
The 61-year-old comedian starred as the street-smart Detroit cop in three previous ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ movies, and he’s poised to return to the role in the long-awaited fourth film, Deadline reports.
The Hollywood star is expected to reunite with producer Jerry Bruckheimer for the movie, which will be released on Netflix.
Up-and-coming director Mark Molloy has also been hired to helm the project.
Mark has been brought in to replace Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, after they walked away from the film to focus on the Warner Bros project ‘Batgirl’.
The movie is still in development and a production date hasn’t yet been set.
Eddie previously described the third ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film as “garbage”.
The movie star suggested he’d be open to reprising the role of Axel Foley – but insisted that the script needed to be right before he committed himself to the film.
He said: “Before it happens, they’ve got to get that script right. That movie has to be right.
“The third ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was garbage. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say, ‘Hey, ‘Beverly Hills Cop’! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s***. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right.”
Eddie also acknowledged that efforts to make a new ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ haven’t really progressed in years.
He explained: “They’ve been trying to make another ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ for 15 years now.
“Right now, Netflix has it, and they’re trying to develop a script. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing next. But, I’m not doing nothing until the script is right.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Colton Ryan wants to star in a Marvel movie.
The 26-year-old actor – who is known for starring alongside Elle Fanning in ‘The Girl from Plainville’ – revealed that while his role on the Hulu drama miniseries was a big “growing opportunity” and that his biggest wish is just to “work” as an actor, he is “dreaming” about a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He said: ” From an artistic standpoint and also from a personal standpoint, this was one of the biggest growing opportunities I’ve ever had. We shot this during Delta and Omicron, when it was hard, as an artist, to find ways to feel useful because the world was deeming you in the other direction.
“I just wanna hopefully work on that level, where it feels intentional, but I’m not dreaming about it. Besides the MCU, I’m not dreaming about it. I don’t have any plans. ”
The ‘Little Voice’ star – who has also held roles in Broadway musicals ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ and ‘ Girl from the North Country’ and previously appeared on TV’s ‘Heartland’ – was then asked whether he would prefer to play a hero or villain in the comic book-based franchise, but admitted that either would be “fulfilling a lifelong dream.”
He told Collider: “It’s easier to say hero because it’s a six movie contract. But villain might be more intriguing. I don’t know. It depends if it’s philosophically rooted and grounded. Either way, I’d be fulfilling a lifelong dream, so I’m not going to be picky.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Bella Thorne has joined the cast of ‘The Trainer’.
The 24-year-old actress is set to star alongside the likes of Soo Joo Park, Brock O’Hurn, Laird Hamilton and Duke Nicholson in the dark comedy, according to Deadline.
The film is being directed by Tony Kaye from a script by Vito Schnabel and Jeff Solomon.
‘The Trainer’ has been in development for more than a decade and is based on an original story by Vito.
The movie centres on a fitness expert in Los Angeles who tries to find fame and fortune by chasing his own version of the American Dream.
However, details about the roles of the new cast members are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Bella rose to prominence on the Disney Channel series ‘Shake It Up’.
But she previously admitted to taking the role because her family needed the money at the time.
She shared: “The reason that we took ‘Shake It Up’, in the first place, was because we were about to be living on the streets.
“So, it really wasn’t a choice, although I did get off the channel at 15. So it wasn’t even really that long that I was on it. But before that, I’d only done drama.”
However, starring in the sitcom actually harmed her career opportunities.
She explained: “Coming off the Disney channel, there were a lot of casting directors who said, ‘I’m not going to read her.’ So I was like, ‘What? Just because I was on the Disney Channel?’
“So there were quite a few auditions where I showed up, at 15, and was like, ‘You have to read me. I’m here. Please let me do the first scene and I’ll show you that it’s worth seeing the second scene.'”

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny McBride admits it was a mind-blowing experience to work with John Goodman on ‘The Righteous Gemstones.’
The 45-year-old producer and actor was shocked that 69-year-old actor John Goodman was willing to join the cast of his HBO TV show ‘The Righteous Gemstones.’ Danny created and wrote the comedy show in addition to starring in it alongside John.
Danny portrays one of the Gemstone children alongside Adam Devine, 38, and Edi Patterson, 47. John is the patriarch of the televangelist Christian family. When creating the role, Danny mentioned he wanted “someone like John Goodman” for the part, but never expected to be able to hire the ‘Roseanne’ actor himself.
Speaking on ‘The Q Interview’ podcast, Danny explained: “[John Goodman playing the role of Eli Gemstone] was well outside of the realm of anything I would’ve thought would be possible. I’ve grown up just loving Goodman’s work and always thinking he’s just such a legend.
“When they asked, ‘Who did you think of for this [role]?’ and I said, ‘Oh, maybe someone like John Goodman.’ They said, ‘Well, what about John Goodman?’ “It’s John Goodman! He’s not going to come do a TV show with us. And we sent him the script, he responded to it, I got on the phone with him and he said he liked it and wanted to come down and party with us. So we got him on board. It was kind of mind-blowing.”
The ‘Eastbound and Down’ star revealed that he’d never met John before filming began, and that it still doesn’t feel real that an actor he considers to be a “legend” would want to be a part of his show.
He revealed: “I had never met him before, no. I still feel like whenever we’re doing stuff, it doesn’t seem like it’s a real thing. So anytime somebody who has a ‘real’ career [joins the cast] I’m like, ‘Really? You want to come and work with us?’”
Danny also added that because comedy TV creators never really get to see audience reactions, he bases the show’s humor on his own tastes, and will still laugh at scenes if he’s re-watching parts of the show.
He confessed: “I think it’s just their immaturity [that makes me laugh so much]. They’re so entitled and lacking in so many things that adults should have: like the ability to navigate relationships and other situations. I think that’s kind of fun, to play characters that deal with things other people have to deal with, whether it’s loss, trouble in a marriage, or trying to figure out how to raise a kid. But portraying someone who just goes about it in such a foolish, insane way is kind of fun.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage says he “would like to play Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo”.
The ‘Moonstruck’ star admitted to wanting to do the role – based on the book of the same name – “because of the character’s love of the ocean”.
The 58-year-old actor said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything on Saturday (09.04.22): “I would like to play Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo because of the character’s love of the ocean I share that with him,” or if any of the movie quotes that people holler at him in public annoy him “I don’t have a problem with any of the quotes, I’m glad they remember the movie.”
Also in the forum chat, Nicholas labelled his ‘Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ co-star Pedro Pascal “a genuinely nice man” and gushed about how much he loved working with him.
He said: “First and foremost, Pedro Pascal is a genuinely nice man. You couldn’t ask for a nicer more pleasant person to work with. Second he has a very unique sense of humor. It’s the kind of sense of humor where I don’t know if he’s really making a joke or he isn’t making a joke. Such as comment about the appearance of a cabbage in a cabbage field. And it made me wonder if he was a method actor and was in character and adding a kind of confused dimension to the Javi role, or if he genuinely thought the cabbage was amusing. I am still confounded by this. I mean who makes a joke about cabbage, except him? It’s just not funny!”
The ‘Knowing’ star’ also shared that he is up for a ‘Face/Off 2, writing “Yes|.
Nicolas also shared how much he loved working on ‘Pig’ due to it being “quiet” and “naturalistic”.
He said: “Thank you. I was interested in returning to a more quiet, naturalistic style of film performance, having done a series of more operatic performance styles. The movie feels rather like a folk song to me or a poem, and the character of Rob was contending with tremendous grief and self imposed isolation and I think we as a group of people experiencing a pandemic in 2020-21 we’re probably also having similar feelings of loss and isolation and it communicated to a nerve we were all experiencing. It’s one of my favorite movies, and it’s probably my best work.”
