David F. Sandberg shocked to cast Dame Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu in Shazam! sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — David F. Sandberg was astonished that Dame Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu agreed to star in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.
The 41-year-old director is helming the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) sequel that will feature Helen and Lucy as villains Hespera and Kalypso respectively and the filmmaker said he was beyond his wildest dreams to cast the pair.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, David said: “I mean, it’s a dream come true, first of all. I’ve been watching movies with Lucy and Helen, and now I get to work with them – which is just amazing.
“They’re just the best. When we had these parts, we were like, ‘Let’s try and get the biggest and best actresses we can.’ And we were able to, because they said yes. It’s amazing.”
The upcoming blockbuster is a sequel to the 2019 film ‘Shazam!’ and sees Zachary Levi return in the title role and Sandberg explained that a follow-up was never in any doubt.
Asked when Warner Bros. contacted about making the flick, David told Collider: “The first movie just came out, and we were already having meetings about what’s the sequel going to be and trying to figure that out. Didn’t feel like there was ever a point of like, oh, is there going to be a sequel or not?”
David explained how test screenings held for the movie enabled him to improve the final cut.
The ‘Lights Out’ director said: “It was mostly actually tightening up in some places. There’s a lot of stuff going on with monsters and everything. We had some sequences that were really cool that had a lot of monsters, but it didn’t really involve the family.
“It felt like, well, you can probably take that out because people want to see more of Shazam and the family, even though the monster’s just creating havoc and cities are cool too.”

Alan Fletcher reveals Neighbours finale is full of ‘twists and turns’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Fletcher is “very sad” that ‘Neighbours’ is coming to an end.
The 65-year-old actor has played GP Karl Kennedy on the Australian soap for almost 30 years and admitted that he is “full of gratitude” and feels “very lucky” that he got to play the role for so long.
He said: “‘Neighbours’ has given me so much and brought so much joy to a lot of people over the years, and that’s a very rewarding aspect of my career. I’m a very lucky person that I got to do it. I’m very sad, of course, that the journey is over, but I’m also full of gratitude that I got to go on this journey.”
The soap opera has been on screens since 1985 but will air its final episode on Friday (29.07.22) and Alan teased that the episode will be full of “nice little twists and turns.”
He told Metro.co.uk: “There will be some nice little twists and turns in there to intrigue the audience. It wouldn’t be ‘Neighbours’ without that! But there is also going to be a celebratory mood around the show. There will be a few tears in a few living rooms when it airs on July 29.”
The final episode is set to feature guest appearances from pop stars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan as well as Hollywood actress Margot Robbie – all of whom first found fame on the soap – and Alan admitted it was “great” to have Natalie Bassingthwaighte back on set after her character Izzy Hoyland had a relationship with Karl back in the early 2000s.
He said: “Natalie Bassingthwaighte is one of my great pals, so having her come back [has been great]. Izzy is one of the most delightful and mischievous characters we’ve ever had on ‘Neighbours’, and the fact that she comes back with [Karl’s son] Malcom, it’s joyous!”
Back in February, Channel 5 confirmed they were axing the show.
A spokesperson said at the time: “‘Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.
“It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
“We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
“We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”

Cult favourite ‘Human Traffic’ gets re-release on Apple TV amid sequel plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Cult favourite ‘Human Traffic’ is getting a re-release on Apple TV amid plans for a sequel.
The 1999 drugs and clubbing flick starring John Simm, 52, and Danny Dyer, 44, as party boys, has been restored in 4K.
Written and directed by Justin Kerrigan, 49, ‘Human Traffic’ follows five twenty-something friends Jip (Simm), Moff (Dyer), Lulu (Lorraine Pilkington), Koop (Shaun Parkes) and Nina (Nicola Reynolds) and as they navigate the ecstasy-fuelled Cardiff club scene in the ’90s.
The 4K restoration from Vertigo Releasing will be available to buy digitally on Apple TV from August 1.
A sequel titled ‘Human Traffic: The Revolution’ was confirmed to be in the pipeline in 2019 but an official release date has yet to be announced.
In January 2021, Kerrigan – expected to direct the sequel – said the script was written and original cast members Dyer, Parkes and Reynolds would be making a comeback.
He told MixMag: “It’s time to make the film. We’ve got everything scripted and ready to go. I’ve got no shortage of actors, producers, art directors, musicians and special effects people that want to work on the film.
“The script that I’ve written I’d love to direct. I think it’s more relevant today than ever.
“The central themes are fear versus love, money versus love and control versus love.
“And it’s really all about the people coming together. And that’s why it was relevant for Brex-s*** and that’s why it’s relevant now (post-lockdown.)”
Dyer has hinted he would love to play Moff again and has tweeted he was “one of my favourite characters ever”.

The Gray Man is getting a sequel and a spin-off

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Gray Man’ is getting a sequel and R-rated spin-off.
The Russo Brothers – siblings Anthony and Joe Russo – have confirmed their Netflix thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas is set to get a second instalment, plus a spin-off, with the former returning as the titular protagonist aka Court Gentry.
Anthony told Tudum: “I can’t get too specific about where we see the character going in the next movie because it’s so early days, but we designed a big ensemble in this film because we love ensemble storytelling.
“Having a bunch of interesting characters creates a lot of possibilities in terms of where you’re gonna go in future storytelling because there’s so many compelling characters played by so many compelling actors and they’re all worth further exploration.”
Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are set to pen the spin-off, which will be a “hard R” when it comes to ratings.
Joe told Deadline: “It means that one will be a hard R. Can’t say more at this point.”
On what fans can expect from the sequel, Joe said: “The sequel will be inspired by the Mark Greaney novel. Translating from one medium to another often requires interpretation, but we have an incredible amount of source material from an amazing offer. We’ll draw on that for the sequel.”
Mark has penned 11 novels about the Gray Man aka Sierra Six, with a 12th on the way, so there is plenty of material.
Joe also hailed Ryan for his incredible “physicality” and believability in the action field, while also insisting ‘The Gray Man’ is a comedy “at its heart”.
The filmmaker added of the ‘Drive’ star: “He does a couple things amazingly well that I don’t think anyone else can do. He has great physicality. He’s very believable on screen as this kind of character. He has great body control. An action movie requires an entirely different skill set than a dramatic role does, but this movie is, at its heart, a comedy, you know?”

The 50-year-old television presenter will front another season of the intense competition series – which is filmed in the Scottish Highlands – that challenges contestants to see who they can trust to succeed in the various tasks.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Rumours are Beeb bosses are so impressed with the finished product they’ve already got wheels in motion with the production company.
“And host Claudia has also been blown away by the experience of making the 12-parter, so is likely to return to front the new season too.
“It’s unusual for executives to be so excited by a programme that they take this step. It’s certainly a vote of confidence in the format.”
The programme – which is yet to air – aims to get players to collaborate to carry out breathtaking feats of physical and mental endurance to be in with a chance of taking home a jackpot of up to £120,000, which is racked up by successfully completing a level.
To be in with a chance, individuals must get through to the next stage and avoid being “murdered” or “banished”.
Claudia is believed to be integral to the drama through selecting some of the contestants to act as ‘traitors’ after being a huge fan of the original – which aired in the Netherlands – as she “couldn’t stop watching”.
She added: “The fact that the BBC version is set in a castle in Scotland and the producers want me to wear tweed meant I was all in.”
At the time of the show’s announcement, the broadcaster labelled the show “high stakes”.
Kate Phillips, BBC Commissioning director of entertainment said: “The Traitors is a high-stakes entertainment series full of false promises and paranoia. Set against the stunning Scottish landscape, I can’t wait for these very different Highland Games to begin, where the biggest rule of all is trust no one!”
