BBC star Nicky Campbell breaks silence on sexual abuse at school

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicky Campbell has claimed he was a victim of abuse at a Scottish school he attended during the 1970s.
The BBC presenter, who was just 10 years old when he witnessed his classmates being sexually abused in an Edinburgh private school, has broken his silence for the first time in 50 years in the hope for justice.
In a piece for the Daily Mirror newspaper, Nicky recalled the harrowing details of the cycle of abuse that began in 1971, in the rugby changing rooms.
Nicky, 61, wrote: “As we file in from rugby, the changing room – its floors as freezing as our legs – is chattering with the sound of ten-year-old boys.
“Some of us are already showering, the warm water thawing us out a bit and the smell of carbolic soap sternly reminding us where we are.
“It’s gloomy in here, so I don’t at first notice but as I reach my peg, I see a man leaning over my friend.
“My friend is laughing but I know from the fear in it that it’s not a good laugh. The man is leering and smirking. We are all giggling but what else can we do?
“It’s that primal point when laughter becomes fear but carries on in spite of itself. The teacher has both hands on my friend’s penis and is masturbating him.
“We just accept it because if he is doing it then it can’t be that wrong can it? And at least he wasn’t doing it while in one of his violent rages.”
Nicky claims he was was “brutally beaten up” by a teacher and called him out on the physical abuse.
He wrote: “When I’d been badly and brutally beaten up by a teacher, Mr X [still alive] – kicked, slapped and viciously tossed around like a rag doll – I had told my parents.
“The teacher in question was well known for his violence – the whole class had witnessed him nearly blinding one of us as he hurled a chalk duster directly at his eye – and Mum had been ferocious, demanding that something be done.
“But she had been ultimately stonewalled. For the rest of my school career, I was seen as trouble.”
It wasn’t until his wife Tina was listening to journalist Alex Renton’s programme ‘In Dark Corners’, about the abuse and cover-up in British private schools, that prompted Nicky to speak out 51 years later.
Nicky also speaks to Alex about the endemic abuse in Britain’s public schools in a new episode of his ‘Different’ podcast, out now on BBC Sounds.

Neil Patrick Harris got final approval of ‘d*** pic’ used in his new show ‘Uncoupled’

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Patrick Harris got final approval of a “d*** pic” used in his new show ‘Uncoupled’.
The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor, 49, plays a New York City estate agent in the Netflix show, whose life is turned upside down after his boyfriend abruptly walks out on him after 17 years.
When his character Michael Lawson gets back to dating he is seen becoming acquainted with gay apps such as Grindr and the concept of sending “d*** pics”.
Neil told Page Six on Tuesday night (28.07.22) about being deeply involved in the intimate portrait shown on the series, which starts 29 July: “Not only did I get approval, I was asked to choose said d***, which is harder than you think – no pun intended.”
He was also asked to OK a :flaccid latex phallus that was left in my dressing room,” which he said did not meet his approval.
Neil added: “It was not OK because I’m more proud of Michael’s member than something that is mass-produced, that you can purchase online.
“So we started looking through photos of people who have taken pics of their dongs in locker rooms.
“And you had to find the right angle and girth and manscapery. And I think we found the right mix. I’m proud of what I’m packing downstairs.”
It comes as Neil, married to David Burtka, 47, is reportedly set to take on the role of nostalgic villain The Toymaker during his guest-starring role in the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th anniversary special.
He is set to play what showrunner Russell T Davies has promised will be the “greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced”.
Rumours of the Toymaker character, who last appeared on the sci-fi series in 1966, making a comeback were prompted after a shop with the name Mr Emporium was spotted on its Bristol set.

Marnie Simpson: Vaping has given me gum disease

OHMYGOSSIP — Marnie Simpson claims vaping has given her gum disease.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ star has warned fans against using electronic cigarettes after she was told she now has “slight gum disease” in her bottom gums.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Well I found out that the vape has caused slight gum disease in my bottom gums”
Fortunately for the 30-year-old star, her gum disease is reversible because she “caught it early”.
She added: “Luckily it’s reversible as I caught it early and have only vaped for 2 months but I knew this as I had sore gums a few days after vaping, I guess some people are more sensitive to the chemicals than others like me
“DON’T VAPE GUYS it’s so bad (sic)”
In May, Marnie and her fiance Casey Johnson welcomed their second son into the world, Oax, two months.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: “Baby boy has arrived safe and sound
“We’re completely in awe, our family is complete”
Several famous friends were quick to congratulate the pair – who also have two-year-old son Rox – on their new arrival, including ‘Geordie Shore’ stars Charlotte Crosby and Holly Hagan.
Charlotte commented: “Woooooooooooooo (sic)”
Holly wrote: “Eeeekkkk love you all (sic)”
Former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Helen Flanagan wrote: “Congratulations darling x (sic)”
In November, Marnie revealed she was pregnant with her second child.
She said: “We’re so excited and super happy. It was a bit of a shock but we’re just so thrilled!”
Marnie discovered she was expecting while she was filming a new TV show last September and found herself constantly feeling nauseous.
She said: “I was filming a TV show in September and we planned on trying after that. But during filming I had really weird symptoms.
“I constantly felt sick, my gums were bleeding and I felt dizzy, but I just put it down to it being an activity-based show and the fact it was 17-hour days.
“When I was away filming I was messaging Casey and I told him I felt really sick and my boobs were really hurting. I said it could be because I was running around and my muscles hadn’t been used in that way before, but Casey said he thought I was pregnant.
“While we were doing that show I also did a bungee jump! Everyone had to do a medical beforehand and when they took my blood pressure it was really low. My blood pressure has never been low so that was a red flag.
“I told Casey and he said, ‘You’re definitely pregnant!’ So as soon as I got back that night I did a pregnancy test and it came up with ‘Pregnant’ straight away. We just laughed!”

Eddie Murphy ‘never first choice to play Candyman’

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Murphy was never first choice to play the lead role in ‘Candyman’, its director has insisted.
Bernard Rose, who made the original 1990s horror, debunked the long-standing myth in an interview about the release of a 4K version of the chiller.
The 61-year-old told the NME: “That whole b******* thing that’s around about Eddie Murphy, there’s not a shred of truth to it.
“It was never even talked about.”
Hook-handed Candyman was played by 6ft 4in all Tony Todd, 67, in the 1992 original – with the actor also playing the ghoul in two sequels, ‘Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh’ in 1995, and 1999’s ‘Candyman: Day of the Dead’.
Long-running reports say one of the reasons 5ft 7in tall Murphy, 61, wasn’t finally cast as Candyman was his height, as he is only a few inches taller the film’s female lead Virginia Madsen, who played urban myths researcher Helen Lyle, who stumbles on the demonic presence while investigating a story about him in a run-down housing estate.
Candyman, 30 years old this year, is based on Clive Barker’s short story ‘The Forbidden’.
Written during the mid-1980s when Margaret Thatcher was in power, it merged themes of social deprivation with nightmare.
Rose says he would make ‘Candyman’ again today “or something similar” as he claims it also addressed white privilege.
He added: “You’ve got to remember, (the story) is told from Virginia Madsen’s (character’s) perspective, a white person going in there.
“I think there’s been something slightly missed about the film… it’s an inversion of the ‘white saviour’ narrative.
“Instead, she goes in there and makes things worse. And I think that’s the point. “There’s fear of the Candyman, which is irrational, but there’s also the bourgeois fear of the projects, which is equally irrational, and is at its heart, you know, an excellent demonstration of racism. And I think that’s where the film got its power from.”
He added he liked the 2021 remake of the flick by ‘Get Out’ director Jordan Peele, 43, adding: “It follows on directly (from the original) and Jordan’s film has an interesting thesis. And what a lot of people don’t know is, Jordan was developing Candyman before ‘Get Out’.”

Kevin Feige teases Deadpool 3 plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Feige has hinted Marvel fans can expect ‘Deadpool 3’ to be a big trilogy event in a similar vein to ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
The Marvel boss admitted it is still being decided how the hotly-anticipated movie, which will see Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as the titular antihero mercenary, can be “elevated”.
He said: “How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with ‘Civil War’, and ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Ragnarok’?”
But Feige admitted his Marvel team were having much “fun” thinking about ideas for Reynolds’ character.
He added to The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”
His comments come after ‘Deadpool 3’ writer Rhett Reese recently insisted the movie won’t be “Disney-fied” after the company’s Fox acquisition in 2019, meaning they have taken over the film series after two successful outings.
Reese said: “It’s these [Disney] people and these people do things their way.
“And we were used to doing things our way, so there are differences, but I think the great part is that Marvel’s been incredibly supportive.
“They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It’s not like any particular joke may be the one that they say, ‘You know, that’s too far,’ that could happen, but to this point, it’s been nothing but support.
“It’s been nothing but, ‘How can we help you?’ What from our universe would you like to use? How can we make your life easy? And we’re gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool. We’re not … this is not going to be the Disney-fied ‘Deadpool.’ ”

Bruno Tonioli says returning to Strictly Come Dancing is ‘impossible’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli says coming back to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is “impossible”.
The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judge ruled out returning to the BBC One Latin and ballroom competition’s judging panel – which includes Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and his replacement Anton Du Beke – in the future, labelling it “too complicated” with his commitments to the star-studded dancing show across the pond.
After being on ‘Strictly’ for 18 years, the 66-year-old dancer told MailOnline: “Well I always will miss it, it’s my family, but I mean we’ll always be friends and you never know what’s going to happen.
“At the moment, you know it’s just as impossible, you know the situation is too complicated but they’re all my brothers and sisters, we’re all loving each other, you know, no hard feelings, they’re great, they do a great job.”
Bruno – who is joined on the ABC dancing competition by former ‘Strictly’ head judge Len Goodman – shared that he couldn’t “do the travel” each week between Los Angeles and London.
He said: “You know what’s going to happen, no one knows what’s going to happen in the future, but at the moment I do the American show but I can’t do the travel, it’s impossible.”
The television personality admitted he often doesn’t recognise the big names who compete on the show – whose previous contestants include teen sensation JoJo Siwa, conservationist Bindi Irwin and cheerleading coach Monica Aldama – and he leans on Len for assistance, but actually likes it that way as “you don’t have any preconceived ideas” about them.
Anton – who was confirmed as Bruno’s replacement in May after working on the show, largely as a pro dancer, since its 2004 debut – labelled his permanent position on the panel as “brilliant news”.
The 56-year-old star said: “This is brilliant news. Everyone knows how much I absolutely love the show and I’m utterly delighted to be continuing as a regular judge.”

Russell T Davies leads tributes to Bernard Cribbins

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies has led tributes to the late Bernard Cribbins.
The 59-year-old screenwriter, who will reprise his role as the ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner in 2023 in the sci-fi show’s 60th anniversary year, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late actor, following his passing aged 93, describing him as a “legend”.
Russell revealed Bernard – who played Wilfred Mott, the grandfather of regular companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and a temporary companion to David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor – brought a suitcase full of props, including a rubber chicken, along on his first day on the programme’s set.
He wrote on Instagram: “Bernard Cribbins (1928-2022) I love this man. I love him. That’s him as Snout in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. D’you fancy doing some Shakespeare, Bernard? “Let me see the script.” He knew everyone! He’d talk about the Beatles and David Niven, and how he once sat on the stairs at a party impersonating bird calls with T H White. Then he’d add, ‘I said to Ashley Banjo last week…’ He loved being in Doctor Who. He said, ‘Children are calling me grandad in the street!’ His first day was on location with Kylie Minogue, but all eyes, even Kylie’s, were on Bernard. He’d turned up with a suitcase full of props, just in case, including a rubber chicken. (sic)”
Russell also revealed Bernard would often speak about his late wife Gill, who he lost last October after 66 years together, and the writer admitted he was “so lucky” to have known the acting legend.
He added: “And what an actor. Oh, really though, what a wonderful actor. We once took him to the TV Choice Awards and sent him up on his own to collect the award, and the entire room stood up and cheered him. That’s a lovely memory. He’d phone up and say, ‘I’ve got an idea! What if I attack a Dalek with a paintball gun?!’ Okay, Bernard, in it went! He loved Gill with all his heart; he mentioned her in every conversation we ever had. A love story for the ages. I’m so lucky to have known him. Thanks for everything, my old soldier. A legend has left the world. (sic)”
The late star’s death comes shortly after he was filming scenes for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary special alongside David and Catherine.
A tribute post on the official ‘Doctor Who’ Twitter account reads: “We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Bernard Cribbins. Known best to Doctor Who fans as the Doctor’s friend and Donna’s grandad Wilfred Mott, Bernard leaves behind a long legacy in film and TV.”
Bernard was also known for narrating ‘The Wombles’, starring as Albert Perks 1970 movie ‘The Railway Children’, and for his work in the ‘Carry On’ films.
He first starred in 1963’s ‘Carry On Jack’ as Midshipman Albert Poop-Decker, before appearing in 1964’s ‘Carry On Spying’, and 1992 film ‘Carry On Columbus’.
Bernard also appeared in ‘Fawlty Towers’ episode ‘The Hotel Inspectors’, taking on the comical role of pretentious hotel guest Mr. Hutchinson.
Referring to the role, ‘Line of Duty’ actor Daniel Mays wrote on Twitter: “Without doubt my fav Bernard Cribbins performance. An exceptional talent that brightened all our lives (sic)”
Bernard was also known for his musical talents, releasing single ‘Right Said Fred’ in 1962, and the song is a favourite in TV star Anneka Rice’s house every Christmas.
She tweeted: “Very sad about Bernard Cribbins. Where would we be without Right Said Fred on Xmas morning”
Bernard’s agent, Gavin Barker Associates, said in a statement: “Beloved actor Bernard Cribbins OBE has passed away at the age of 93.
“His career spanned seven decades with such diverse work ranging from films like ‘The Railway Children’ and the ‘Carry On’ series, hit 60’s song ‘Right Said Fred’, a notorious guest on ‘Fawlty Towers’ and narrating ‘The Wombles’.

Xochitl Gomez teases exciting future in the MCU for America Chavez

OHMYGOSSIP — Xochitl Gomez claims there is a lot more to come from America Chavez in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The 16-year-old star made her debut as the character in the recent Marvel blockbuster ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and is excited to see what the future holds for her alter ego.
Speaking to ComicBook.com: “I mean, I haven’t got told anything yet.
“But obviously there’s a lot more to America. I think we’ve only seen a brief introduction to America, and I’m very proud of how she’s been received and that people love her and want to see more of her.
“And it just really warms my heart, because I feel like she’s got lots of backstory that’s just kind of waiting to be told, and she’s got more to discover about herself and her powers.”
America has a close relationship with Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong) and Xochitl revealed how the characters will take Chavez under their wing going forward.
She said: “It was fun just because you get to see these two people that don’t… You would never pair these two people up, ever, and then you just see how much they kind of need one another.
“And it was also just with Benedict Wong’s character, you get to see how these two kind of take her under their wing, especially going to Kamar-Taj at the end of the movie.
“We see her at Kamar-Taj and she’s starting to learn mystic arts. And I think it’s really important for her to have this kind of disciplined instructor in her life with Wong. Especially being on the run and being alone, you need someone to kind of be there for you and call home.”

Taron Egerton starring in thriller Carry On

OHMYGOSSIP — Taron Egerton is to star in the action thriller ‘Carry On’.
The 32-year-old actor has been tapped to feature in the Netflix and Amblin movie that will be directed by ‘Jungle Cruise’ helmer Jaume Collet-Serra.
The movie marks the first production to come out of the deal that Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners signed with Netflix last year and centres on Ethan Kopek – a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed by a mysterious traveler to allow a dangerous package to slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight.
TJ Fixman has penned the original screenplay with Michael Green completing the most recent polish to the script. Dylan Clark will produce while Holly Bario – Amblin’s president of production – will oversee on behalf of the studio.
Sources suggest that Egerton wanted to star in the film as soon as he read the script and has forged a good working relationship with Collet-Serra.
Taron starred as Sir Elton John in the biopic ‘Rocketman’ and revealed that working closely with the director Dexter Fletcher encouraged him to look beyond acting for his future movies.
The ‘Kingsman’ star recalled: “When (I did) ‘Rocketman’, because of the musical elements of it, I had been involved with lots of elements of the storytelling that weren’t just about the acting.
“I had a close relationship with the director – it wasn’t our first project – so I’d been popping into the edit to see how things were going. And I’d enjoyed those conversations; I’d enjoyed being in the studio and learning about how the music was going to fit into the film and all the rest of it.”
Taron added: “By the time this came around, I knew that I was interested in filmmaking conversations as well as acting ones. So, I just asked them if I could be a producer, and if they would welcome my input in that way. And they, very surprisingly and kindly, said yes. That’s how it happened to me.”

Julia Bradbury gave up drinking after breast cancer diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Bradbury stopped drinking after her breast cancer diagnosis.
The ‘Countryfile’ presenter gave up booze and her “reputation for drinking everyone under the table” following the news she had a lump in her breast in September 2021, because it increases the chance of getting sick again.
The 52-year-old broadcaster told woman and home magazine: “Historically, I haven’t been kind to my body or my gut.
“I had a reputation for drinking everybody else under the table. But right now, I don’t feel comfortable drinking alcohol because if I drink one unit of alcohol a day, my risk of recurrence is between 5 per cent and 6 per cent across my lifetime.
“With four units a day, it goes up to 28 per cent.”
Julia – who underwent a mastectomy a month after her diagnosis – urged the importance of gratitude for getting her through.
She said: “My whole mantra for life has become, ‘Be grateful for what you do have, not what you don’t have.’
“I have a breast, I have my nipple, but I don’t have sensation and because I’m naturally slim, I have what I call the mozzarella-cheese effect around – as my friend Ben Shephard and I call it, my pneumatic boob.”
The ‘Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer and Me’ documentary-maker ruled out having any more surgery on her boobs.
Julia said: “Because my skin is very thin, you can really see the silicone implant beneath and it will be that way unless I have another procedure to inject fat from somewhere else.
“I don’t want to do that. It would purely be for aesthetics.
“I suppose age has something to do with it. In your 50s and 60s, femininity is still part of your identity, but it’s not the be-all and end-all.”
Julia – who has 11-year-old son Zephyr and seven-year-old twin daughters Zena and Xanthe with her husband Gerard Cunningham – previously admitted that telling her kids about her cancer was the “hardest thing”.
She said: “Telling your children you have cancer is the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do in your life.
“You also don’t quite now how much to tell them to be realistic, and how much do you need to protect them as well. It is a very tricky balance. I don’t think any parent really knows exactly what to do.”

Alex Jones confirms The One Show break

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Jones has announced ‘The One Show’ is taking a break from screens for almost a month.
The 45-year-old presenter – who co-hosts the BBC show alongside former footballer Jermaine Jenas and singer Ronan Keating – confirmed on last night’s (27.07.22) episode the programme would be coming off air due to a schedule shakeup, as the channel gears up for the Commonwealth Games.
She said: “That is your lot this week and for a few weeks because we are taking a summer break. We’ll be back on August 22. Until then, stay safe and have a lovely summer.”
The break comes after Alex revealed this week she was going through a “tricky and challenging” patch in her life.
The mum of three – who shares Teddy, five, Kit, two, and 11-month-old Annie with husband Charlie Thomson – wrote on Instagram: “Things have been a bit tricky for us recently and in all honesty, I haven’t had time to be on here between working and the children but I randomly logged on and saw all your lovely messages gently asking if we were all ok. I was touched by your kindness and so I just wanted to check in and say thank you, and that even though life has been a bit challenging, we are ok and still managing to enjoy the beginning of the holidays and there’s still plenty to smile about! (I’ll pop some stuff on my stories)
#whenlifegivesyoulemons #thekindnessofstrangers (sic)”
During her appearances on ‘The One Show’ this week, Alex did not elaborate on the Instagram post or provide any further detail on her situation.
Friends and fans inundated Alex with good wishes.
Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins wrote: “Hope all OK, sending love”.
Izzy Judd added: “Sending love”.

EastEnders’ Tameka Empson: I get flirty messages all the time

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star Tameka Empson is bombarded with “flirty messages” all the time.
The 45-year-old actress, who plays Kim Fox on the primetime BBC soap, is somewhat of a sex symbol as her inbox is overflowing with saucy messages.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column as saying: “I get flirty messages all the time. The messages pile up. I read them and I’m thinking, ‘But I don’t even know your name, let alone your number or whether we’re going out to eat!’
“A few men have given me the eye in real life. But generally men are quite shy with me. I am confident … they need to get with the programme.”
Tameka joined the cast of ‘EastEnders’ back in 2009. Her character Kim has been such a hit among the audience it landed Empson her very own YouTube spin-off series titled ‘The Kimfluencer’, which has been hugely popular with viewers.
She added: “When fans see me in the street, they shout, ‘Kim, I love you, I want to go parting with you’. They’re lovely.
“They’re always high energy. Sometimes I’m tired and just want to go home and have a bath.
“But it’s still really nice to hear that from people.
“You do what you do and you don’t know how people perceive it. So when they come out and say things to you, it’s nice.”
Most recently, unearthed throwbacks of the star sent fans into a frenzy after one loyal supporter shared a snap of Tameka alongside her co-star Linda Henry, who plays Shirley Carter.
Both Tameka and Linda – who starred in 1996’s LGBTQ+ coming-of-age movie ‘Beautiful Thing’ together, before their stint on ‘EastEnders’ – looked unrecognisable.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Liu has realised a dream with her part in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.
The 53-year-old actress plays the villain Kalypso in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) sequel and says it is special to be appearing in a comic book film as she always loved the genre but doubted that it was attainable as a Chinese-American actress.
Lucy told Collider: “I think being part of a superhero movie is a super dream, because I am a super fan of comics and of that time, which is my childhood.
“So it really is a dream to be a part of something that, at that time, was unattainable and to grow into that space, and to have them grow into that space – for diversity, for women, and empowerment. It’s not even just quotables, it’s a real thing and being a part of that is really a dream come true.”
Lucy also discussed her journey to becoming a recognisable Asian-American actress in Hollywood.
The ‘Charlie’s Angels’ star said: “It’s always about, ‘Is it interesting? Is it challenging?’ And as those things build up, you start to build this structure and this foundation and other people can join, so it becomes a city, becomes a state or country, and it becomes something that we could all be a part of.”
Lucy continued: “I think it’s about belonging, and we all want to belong, and that’s why we’re all here at Comic-Con. I mean, as a child for me, coming from an immigrant family, I did not feel like I belonged. Right?
“And so I think in a way, going into the entertainment business, you fall into this circus of people that are trying to find a way, and now I’ve been lucky enough to have worked and have had reached a level of success, where I can really feel like I belong, and we’re all looking for that.”
