Kumail Nanjiani pays tribute to ‘legend’ Ivan Reitman

OHMYGOSSIP — Kumail Nanjiani has paid tribute to the “legend” Ivan Reitman following his death.
The ‘Ghostbusters’ director passed away on Saturday (12.02.22) at his home in California at the age of 75 and the ‘Eternals’ star thanked him for his contributions to the film industry.
Kumail tweeted: “The number of great movies he made is absurd. RIP.”
The filmmaker’s other credits include ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’, ‘Twins’ and ‘Kindergarten Cop’ and the actor W. Earl Brown – who featured in Ivan’s 2014 film ‘Draft Day’ – revealed that ‘Animal House’ was the film that encouraged him to pursue a career in movies.
The 58-year-old star recalled: “My first day on set was not an easy one. Ivan rode me pretty hard. I was so disappointed in my initial experience. When I returned to Cleveland a few weeks later, the thrill was gone.
“I was expecting more of the same, but when I walked on on set I heard ‘EARL’ – Ivan put his arm around me – ‘it’s so good to have you back’.
“I was taken aback by his response, then I realised he had seen the dailies by then and he now trusted me. The remainder of my time was wonderful – what you dream working with a hero of yours would be like.”
A joint statement from Ivan’s three children, Jason, Catherine and Caroline Reitman, confirmed the sad news of the director’s passing.
It read: “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life.
“We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”

Natalie Imbruglia wins The Masked Singer

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Imbruglia has won ‘The Masked Singer’.
The 47-year-old star – who sang Taylor Swift’s hit ‘Blank Space’ and One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life’ – saw off competition from Mushroom and Robobunny to claim victory in the final of the ITV show.
Speaking after being unmasked, Natalie said: “I just loved being Panda! I stayed in an American accent the whole time to hide it!
“I really thought Rita [Ora] and Davina [McCall] would guess as they know me! I got to make friends with a Mushroom and Robobunny. It’s just been great.”
Before she was unmasked, the judges speculated that Panda might have been ‘High School Musical’ star Vanessa Hudgens.
Earlier in the show, Mushroom was unmasked as Charlotte Church.
The 35-year-old singer subsequently took to social media to discuss her time on ‘The Masked Singer’, admitting she “loved” competing in the series.
Charlotte wrote on Twitter: “I absolutely loved being your Mushroom, what a joy to be a part of something so focused on singing, which I love! Congrats to the darling Panda and everyone else who took part! [mushroom emojis] (sic)”
Meanwhile, Westlife’s Mark Feehily was unmasked as Robobunny.
The ‘Swear It Again’ hitmaker – who finished third in the final – admitted that his time on the show had been a “challenge”. However, he also claimed that it’s given him new confidence.
The series finale saw the return of contestants from the first two series, including Joss Stone, who won the ‘Masked Singer’ crown in 2021.
Joss, 34, actually joined the usual judging panel – which includes Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Rita Ora and Davina McCall – for the final, and they were shocked when Natalie revealed her identity to the audience.

Charlie Day steals socks from set

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Day steals his characters’ socks.
The ‘I Want You Back’ actor doesn’t swipe many souvenirs from set but always takes one particular item because he always finds it hard to buy pairs that fit in his everyday life.
Asked if he’s ever stolen anything from set, he said: “I usually wind up with my characters’ socks.
“I feel like I’ll have a short prison sentence if they catch me for that.
“But the average sock never fits me. The heel is up by my ankle.”
Even if he’s got a long day planned on set, the 46-year-old star knows it isn’t a good idea for him to have a nap.
He told Total Film magazine: “I have done it but I was able to do it more as a younger actor. Now I have too much going on in my head.
“And I don’t recover well from a nap, so I try to avoid taking one.”
Charlie travels light when he’s working but always makes sure his family are able to reach him.
He said: “I’m just not one of those actors with a feather in my shoe or stuff like that.
“Sadly I do always have my cellphone with me because my wife is going to call with something going on with my son and I just don’t want to not be reachable for five hours.
“But no, I don’t bring any superstitions.
“And I don’t want to be weighed down by stuff – to have a trailer full of stuff and pockets full of stuff. I’d rather be free.
“I don’t take a book because I prefer conversations.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Turner and Dane DeHaan are set to star in thriller ‘Wardriver’.
The ‘Game of Thrones’ actress and the ‘Oppenheimer’ actor will lead the cast for the upcoming crime movie, which has been written and directed by ‘F9: The Fast Saga’ scribe Daniel Casey.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will start principal photography this summer in Los Angeles and will be produced by Star Thrower Entertainment’s Tim White, Trevor White and Allan Mandelbaum, who produced Will Smith’s ‘King Richard’.
Casey said: “I’m beyond excited to be working with Dane DeHaan and Sophie Turner on ‘Wardriver’. Both are incredible performers and gifted, talented artists in the truest sense. I know I speak not only for myself but also for the amazing teams at Star Thrower Entertainment and Highland Film Group in saying that I can’t wait to see them bring the roles of Cole and Sarah to life.”
‘Wardriver’ tells the story of a tech-savvy thief Cole (DeHaan), who commits robberies from his bank account.
When a powerful criminal forces him to hack into the bank account of a young woman called Sarah (Turner), he discovers that a lawyer with connections to the mafia is using her to hide vast sums of money.
Cole falls for Sarah as he attempts to save her from danger but soon finds himself “pulled into an elaborate web of lies, deceit and betrayal”.

Kate Garraway and Derek Draper have found ‘a new way to be in love’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway says she and husband Derek Draper have found “a new way to be in love”.
Two years after contracting COVID-19, Derek still requires 24-hour care at home and Kate says the trust he puts in her to manage his illness has led to their relationship taking on a deeper meaning.
She told The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine: “I’m not sure that we’ve ever fallen out of love, but I think a new path is emerging, a new way to be in love.
“He puts huge trust in me. He just says: ‘Whatever you think.’ Which is wonderful, but I do get quite tearful about it. I think: ‘God, I hope I’m worthy of that trust.’ But I’ve got his back. That is a relationship in itself, isn’t it? How many times do couples have doubts about each other? That’s a positive thing to come out of this, to have that certainty of each other. He and I are very close.
“I don’t think things will ever be the same again, because I don’t think we as a family and he as a human being could go through something like that and not be impacted by it. Months in a coma and then this. It’s going to change him, even if it’s only emotionally. We’ve all been through so much. I’m not the same.”
Although Kate, 54, and their children Darcey, 15 and Billy, 12, have found it difficult to cope with Derek’s illness, she admitted that nothing compares to how Derek is struggling.
She explained: “If it is gruelling for me, it’s even more so for him, I’m sure, because he’s living with it. As much as it impacts on the children and myself, being in his body must be so much worse.”
In the documentary ‘Finding Derek’, which Kate previously made about his illness, Derek admitted to feeling suicidal and Kate revealed: “I still sense that in him. But now I think he believes he can get better, but until we know how, it’s challenging.”

Anton Du Beke’s Strictly contract to be renewed

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke’s contract as a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge is set to be renewed.
The professional dancer has been a huge hit with viewers after joining the judging panel as a replacement for Bruno Tonioli when the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions made it difficult for Bruno to fly between the UK and the US, where he is a judge on ‘Dancing With The Stars’.
And Anton, 55, is set to be rewarded with a new contract.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “We have been told Anton’s contract as a judge is going to be renewed. The bosses were really happy with his performance.
“It also hasn’t escaped their notice his salary is considerably lower than Bruno’s.”
It has also been claimed that Bruno – who is working on the ‘Strictly’ live tour – will not return to the show, despite support from fellow judges including Craig Revel Horwood.
The insider added: “Bruno has been an integral part of ‘Strictly’ for more than a decade, and there is a huge amount of affection for him from those on the show.
“This decision will ruffle some feathers, not least with Craig, who has been a very, very vocal advocate for welcoming Bruno back. But the bosses’ attitude is, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.”
Bruno, 66, previously joked that Anton “needed the money” from the show but admitted he was unsure about his own future on ‘Strictly’.
He said: “Good for him. He needs the money. If they want me, I’ll be back. But they may say, ‘Anton was great, we don’t need you’.”

Gemma Collins’ self-harm fears

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins was afraid to tell her parents about self-harming as a teen.
The 41-year-old reality TV star – who will share her story in the upcoming Channel 4 documentary ‘Gemma Collins: Self Harm And Me’ – admitted she was terrified to open up about her issues because she feared she would be “locked in a mental asylum” for the rest of her life.
Gemma told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Pressure would build up and that was the way that I would deal with it. I felt relief when I self-harmed. It was a coping mechanism for me if I felt stressed.
“But I just couldn’t talk about it. When you do it for the first time you don’t know why but you hope ‘I never do that again’ and you hope those feelings never come back that make me want to do it.
“I hid it so well. I didn’t do it every day or every week – it was every couple of months.
“When I was growing up you didn’t talk about your problems or aired your dirty laundry in public.
“So when I started self-harming I couldn’t tell anyone because I was thinking I’m going to get locked up, not going to see my family or friends and I’m going to be in a mental asylum my whole life.”
Speaking previously about the documentary, Lee Murray, Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor, said: “Gemma Collins has taken the brave decision to open up about her own experience with self-harm.
“As an instantly recognisable and relatable figure we applaud her courage in revealing her own struggles, and hope this film and her insight will spark vitally important conversations around young people and self-harm”.
The mental health charity Mind added: “Our research at Mind has also shown that when people in the public eye speak about their mental health, it encourages others to do the same – as many as one in five people have spoken to a loved one as a direct result of seeing a celebrity speak out.
“This demonstrates how vital it is that people in the public eye continue to speak honestly about their mental health experiences, including coping mechanisms like self-harm.
“Mind is working with Channel 4 to ensure the issues covered are handled sensitively and portrayed accurately.
“We hope that this storyline will help to build a greater understanding of why some young people use self-harm as a way to deal with poor mental health, and that it will encourage viewers who are struggling to get the support they need.”

Robert Pattinson ‘infuriated’ on Twilight set

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Pattinson spent most of his time on the ‘Twilight’ set “infuriated”.
The 35-year-old actor played vampire Edward Cullen opposite Kristen Stewart’s human Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight Saga’ movie franchise but admitted that he strongly disagreed with how the studio wanted to portray his character.
He told GQ.com: “I wanted to make it as arty as possible. We had this strange tension where the studio was scared to make things a little bit too emo and stuff. I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time [on set] infuriated… I can’t believe the way I was acting half the time.”
And Robert revealed his managers even warned him that he was in danger of being fired.
He said they told him after one set visit: “You’ll be fired by the end of the day if you don’t stop doing what you’re doing.”
He also admitted to being high on valium during his audition, explaining: “I had started to develop this absolute terror of auditions, which I’m sure a lot of actors have. I could be so enthusiastic about something and then the day of the audition, my confidence would just entirely collapse. The same thing happened on the morning of the ‘Twilight’ audition.
“I had never taken a Valium before. I just remember feeling so glorious in the back of the taxi with the window open and just being like, ‘Wow, this is what I’ve been missing.’ I think I had this quite spacey, detached kind of thing in the audition, which must have worked for the character.”

Jennifer Lopez felt ‘uncomfortable’ because she identified with character

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez was “uncomfortable” playing a character she could relate to so much in ‘Marry Me’
The 52-year-old star plays superstar singer Kat Valdez, who learns her fiancé has cheated on her shortly before they get married and decides to take a leap of faith and marry a complete stranger, and the ‘On the Floor’ hitmaker – who has been married three times and is now in a relationship with Ben Affleck – bared “her soul” with the movie.
She said of her character: “She’s strong and confident, she’s a businesswoman and she’s a boss – but also, she’s just a regular person.
“She’s a regular girl who gets lonely and who needs love and who wants to feel like she has a home.
“There was so much about it that really I could understand.
“It was really about baring my soul. It was actually a little bit more uncomfortable than plauing a character that is nothing like you, because this was bringing real personal life experience into a role in a way that I’ve never had to.
Singer Maluma has made his movie debut as Jennifer’s on-screen ex Bastian and the actress thinks he proved himself to be a “natural”.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “Working with Maluma was a joy, it was so much fun.
“This was his first movie and his first time acting.
“I remember doing the first scene with him and going to the director and going, ‘He’s a natural, that’s good.’
“It’s not going to be weird or awkward, it’s not like he’s studied acting his whole life or anything like that, this was just him really doing it.
“We got really lucky because he was a really natural actor and he really understood what his role was and we had a lot of fun.”
However, Jennifer admitted Maluma was unimpressed by comparisons to his character.
She said: “I mean, it’s his charisma, you know? We needed somebody who could really pull off that they were a superstar, a recording artist, who was easy on stage, who girls would go crazy for and who was believable as a cheater.
“He hates that! He’s like, ‘You know I’m not this guy, this is not who I am, I am not Bastian.’ And I go, ‘I know, I know.’ “

Roman Kemp and Maura Higgins ‘all over each other’ at BRITs bash

OHMYGOSSIP — Roman Kemp and Maura Higgins were “all over each other” at a BRIT awards bash.
The 29-year-old Capital FM breakfast show host and the 31-year-old reality TV star were spotted flirting at Tom Grennan’s BRIT Awards afterparty last week.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Everyone was talking about how Maura and Roman were flirting and all over each other during the bash.
“They were dancing together and laughing a lot, they seemed to be glued to each other’s sides all night.
“Maura has been unlucky in love lately, but hanging out with Roman seemed to put a smile back on her face.”
However, a spokesperson for Roman said: “Roman and Maura are friends.”
Meanwhile, Maura’s ex Giovanni Pernice, 31, was spotted kissing TV star Emily Atack, 32, at a separate BRITS bash.
An onlooker said: “Gio and Emily were snogging the faces off each other. Their hands were everywhere and they were absolutely loving it.
“He had been following her around the club and joined her on Maya Jama’s private table. Before long he had his arms draped over her on the dance floor where they kissed — and then held hands outside in the smoking area.
“There were also loads of raunchy performers on stage which they watched while cosying up together. It was more than flirty.”

Liberty Poole voted off Dancing on Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Liberty Poole is the latest star to be eliminated from ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The 22-year-old former ‘Love Island’ contestant and her professional partner Joe Johnson lost the dreaded skate off against Olympian Kye Whyte and his partner Tippy Packard during Sunday’s (13.02.22) episode.
Liberty took a tumble during her routine – which was inspired by rollercoasters as they are one of her favourite things – after a lift went wrong and the judges decided to send her home.
Ashley Banjo said: “That was tough. It was really close, I’m gonna go with the performance I enjoyed slightly more, and that was Kye and Tippy.”
Jayne Torvill added: “It’s so close at this stage of the competition, but the performance I enjoyed most is Kye and Tippy.”
Her fellow skater Christopher Dean said: “Tonight I went with power and passion, and that’s Kye and Tippy.”
Liberty did find support from judge Oti Mabuse, who said: “I want for both of you to do well. I’m going to go with the performance I believe was stronger, and that’s Liberty and Joe.”
Despite her exit, Liberty told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that she had “enjoyed every second” of her time on the ITV show and paid tribute to her mother for her support.
She said: “Even though we had that fall tonight, I’ve enjoyed every second and I want to thank everyone behind the scenes and my mum for being in the audience every week. She is my rock.”
‘Dancing on Ice’ continues on ITV from 6pm next Sunday (20.02.22).

Frankie Essex pregnant with twins

OHMYGOSSIP — Frankie Essex is pregnant with twins.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star admitted it was a huge “shock” when she and partner Luke Love discovered she was carrying two babies but she was in “tears of happiness” when she found out.
She told new! magazine: ““I was just so shocked. How we found out was really lovely.
“The lady scanning me was focusing on one baby and was then like, ‘What else do we have here then?’ and I was so shocked and asked, ‘Are we having twins?’ I burst out crying, tears of happiness. It was just so beautiful. It was lovely.
We had an early scan as we were so excited. There are no twins in the family and we conceived naturally. They’re not identical.
“It was such a shock, but it’s a blessing and we are so over the moon. It’s amazing. As soon as we told the family, I asked if twins run on either side and as far as we all know, they don’t.”
When she found out she was pregnant, the 34-year-old star hadn’t planned to find out the sex of her baby, but she and Luke will now as she doesn’t want any more “surprises”.
Asked if she knows the sex of the twins, she said: “We haven’t [found out] yet but we are going to. I didn’t want to, but as soon as we found out we were having twins we both agreed that we’d find out. I would have wanted it to be a surprise, but I think I’ve already had the biggest surprise.”
Frankie has had one baby name picked out for years, so it’s proving difficult to select another as she wants the twins’ monikers to “match”.
She said: “I’ve always had a name in mind, ever since I was younger. When I first met Luke, I told him it. We’ve had to think of names, as it’s so hard to think of two matching names. So we’ve got options.”

Ivan Reitman dead at 75

OHMYGOSSIP — Ivan Reitman has died.
The ‘Ghostbusters’ filmmaker passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in California on Saturday (12.02.22) at the age of 75, his family have confirmed.
His three children, Jason, Catherine and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement: “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life.
“We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
Ivan – who is also survived by wife Genevieve – was born in Komarmo, Czechslovakia and moved with his parents, who were Hungarian Jews, to Canada as refugees when he was four years old.
He landed his big break in Hollywood when he produced ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ in 1978 and went on to direct comedies ‘Meatballs’ and ‘Stripes’.
Ivan was nominated for two Oscars for producing and directing ‘Ghostbusters’ in 1984, a movie which grossed almost $300 million worldwide and generated various spin-offs, including last year’s ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, which was directed by his son, Jason.
The director-and-producer’s other notable credits included ‘Old School’, ‘Beethoven’, ‘Kindergarten Cop’, ‘Twins’ and ‘Junior’.
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman paid a heartfelt tribute to the director.
He said in a statement to Deadline: “Tonight, the lady with the torch weeps, as do all of us at Columbia, and film lovers around the world.
“Ivan Reitman was an inseparable part of this studio’s legacy, but more than that he was a friend. A great talent and an even finer man; he will be dearly missed. We send his family all our condolences.”
Paul Feig, who directed the 2016 female ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot was “in shock” at the news.
He tweeted: “I’m in absolute shock. I had the honor of working so closely with Ivan and it was always such a learning experience. He directed some of my favorite comedies of all time. All of us in comedy owe him so very much. Thank you for everything, Ivan. Truly(sic)”

Emma Thompson reveals full-frontal scene was the ‘hardest thing’ she’s filmed

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Emma Thompson says her naked scene in ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’ was “the hardest thing” she’s ever done.
The 62-year-old actress stripped off for a full-frontal scene in the drama – which sees a widow hire a young male escort to help explore the sexual intimacy she was lacking in her marriage.
And the Academy Award-winner has admitted she found it challenging getting naked for the camera and highlighted how women have been “brainwashed all our lives to hate our bodies.”
Speaking at a press conference for Berlin’s Berlinale Special Gala, she said: “If I stand in front of a mirror, I’m always sort of pulling something, or I’ll turn to the side, I’ll do something. I can’t just stand there. Why would I do that, it’s horrifying.
“But that’s the problem, isn’t it, that women have been brainwashed all our lives to hate our bodies. That’s just the fact. And everything that surrounds us reminds us how imperfect we are, and everything is wrong with us.”
She admitted: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.
“So I really did something I’ve never done as an actor.”
Thompson encouraged the audience to “just accept” and “not judge” themselves the next time they see themselves in the nude.
Her latest comments on the subject come after the veteran actress recently discussed the “dreadful demands” placed upon women to maintain perfect figures.
She said: “Nothing has changed in the dreadful demands made upon women in the real-world world but also in acting. This thing of having to be thin is still the same as it ever was, and actually in some ways I think it’s worse now.”
Thompson also described plastic surgery as “a form of collective psychosis”.
The ‘Cruella’ actress shrugged off the idea of going under the knife and said it’s a “very strange thing to do” when aging is “completely natural”.
Asked if she’s ever considered cosmetic surgery, she said: “Why would you do that to yourself? I simply don’t understand.
“I do honestly think the cutting of yourself off to put it in another place in order to avoid appearing to do what you’re actually doing, which is aging, which is completely natural, is a form of collective psychosis.
“I really do think it’s a very strange thing to do.”
Thompson explained she has “always” been against plastic surgery, noting she is against women being told what “to do” with their own bodies.
She added: “I’ve always thought that, though. But I’ve always been a kind of card-carrying, militant feminist when it comes to women’s bodies and what’s been done to them, what we’re told to expect of ourselves, what we’re told to do to ourselves.”

Russell T Davies dreaded getting It’s A Sin wrong

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies dreaded getting ‘It’s A Sin’ wrong.
The 58-year-old screenwriter created the acclaimed TV drama series – which focuses on a group of gay men during the HIV crisis in the UK – and admitted he would have been “mortified” if he “upset” people with the “wrong tone” for the sensitive story.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, he said: “It had been looming in my head for years, almost with a sense of dread.
“Because if I got it wrong, I would have gone to the grave mortified. It doesn’t matter if I get ‘Doctor Who’ wrong. It doesn’t matter if I get ‘Years and Years’ wrong. it doesn’t matter if I get ‘Jeremy Thorpe’ wrong. Who cares? Move on, next drama. If I’d got this wrong – and by wrong I mean if I’d upset people, or just struck the wrong tone, or let down the people we’d lost – that would have been an awful thing. It’s very unusual to approach a project with that heaviness, that sense of dread.”
The 2021 show – which won Best New Drama at the National Television Awards – was rejected by rival broadcasters BBC and ITV, and became the most-watched show on Channel 4, which Russell admits was “thrilling” because it hadn’t been expected.
He added: “The night before transmission, Alex Mahon – who’s the head of Channel 4 – sent me a lovely e-mail saying, ‘It doesn’t matter how many viewers we get tomorrow, we’re really proud of it,’ which was like a kiss of death. I thought, ‘Oh my God, they’re actually expecting zero viewers, right at the very top.’ so the fact that those numbers were so high was thrilling.
“I mean, you only do these things for viewers, you’re just lying if you say you don’t. You do them so that millions of people will come and watch. I mean ‘Cucumber’ [Davies’ 2015 Channel 4 drama exploring 21st century gay life] was getting audiences of about 1 million. Some episodes got less. So I was kind of resigned to that in my head.”
Olly Alexander – who played a leading role in the critically-acclaimed show – described making ‘It’s a Sin’ as “one of the greatest experiences” of his life.
The Years Years star – who plays Ritchie Tozer in the series – said recently: “It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It’s created a conversation that I’m amazed to be a part of. A global conversation.”

Davina McCall ‘constantly’ asked for Masked Singer clues

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall has people trying to “trick” her into revealing the identities of ‘The Masked Singer’ contestants.
The 54-year-old presenter is one of the judges on the ITV programme and she insisted it would “ruin” the programme for viewers if they knew which celebrities were hidden behind the elaborate costumes so she won’t give anyone any clues, even though she is constantly asked.
She said: “I could talk about ‘The Masked Singer’ all day long!
“For the past few months my most used emoji is the one with the two hands up in the air and the shrugging shoulders.
“Non-stop, people ask me, friends ask me. I was in Tesco today and someone tried to trick me into saying something.
“They go, ‘Of course Panda is so and so’ and I go, ‘You’re not going to do it that easily. I’m not even going to give you a hint you might be right!’ If you find out before the show and you didn’t just guess it, it ruins it. That is the joy of the show.
“We’re like Official Secrets Act-trained — we’ve signed, like, an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and legally we can’t discuss it.”
Davina admitted she is “amazed” people are still clueless as to who the three stars appearing in tonight’s (12.02.22) final are, but admitted producers have made it harder to guess this year.
She told The Sun newspaper: “It’s a very a grand finale. They are performing a couple of songs each. And more VTs for everybody to try and guess. It always amazes me that even now, people are still guessing.
“There was someone on Twitter who, weeks and weeks and weeks ago, after the first two shows, guessed virtually everyone correctly. The clues this time have been really hard.
“We all got quite good last season so they ramped it up and they know how to send us off on a wild goose chase.”
And if she wasn’t a judge on the show, Davina would be watching at home, trying desperately to figure out the contestants’ identities.
She said: “I can’t think of a show that has made you want to sit down with tiny kids as a family as much as this. A small child is not going to know who Michelle Williams is, though we all do. But they don’t care. They’re just excited to see it’s a lady.
“There’s something joyous about needing accessories to watch a TV programme! The number of people who tell me they’re sat there with a notebook and pen, like me.
“Those are my people. I’m a nerd! If we were filming this at the same time as screening it, I’d be sitting watching the TV with a notebook and pen every week. But we can’t do that or we’d all be on Google and it would be cheating.”
