OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall has people trying to “trick” her into revealing the identities of ‘The Masked Singer’ contestants.
The 54-year-old presenter is one of the judges on the ITV programme and she insisted it would “ruin” the programme for viewers if they knew which celebrities were hidden behind the elaborate costumes so she won’t give anyone any clues, even though she is constantly asked.
She said: “I could talk about ‘The Masked Singer’ all day long!
“For the past few months my most used emoji is the one with the two hands up in the air and the shrugging shoulders.
“Non-stop, people ask me, friends ask me. I was in Tesco today and someone tried to trick me into saying something.
“They go, ‘Of course Panda is so and so’ and I go, ‘You’re not going to do it that easily. I’m not even going to give you a hint you might be right!’ If you find out before the show and you didn’t just guess it, it ruins it. That is the joy of the show.
“We’re like Official Secrets Act-trained — we’ve signed, like, an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and legally we can’t discuss it.”
Davina admitted she is “amazed” people are still clueless as to who the three stars appearing in tonight’s (12.02.22) final are, but admitted producers have made it harder to guess this year.
She told The Sun newspaper: “It’s a very a grand finale. They are performing a couple of songs each. And more VTs for everybody to try and guess. It always amazes me that even now, people are still guessing.
“There was someone on Twitter who, weeks and weeks and weeks ago, after the first two shows, guessed virtually everyone correctly. The clues this time have been really hard.
“We all got quite good last season so they ramped it up and they know how to send us off on a wild goose chase.”
And if she wasn’t a judge on the show, Davina would be watching at home, trying desperately to figure out the contestants’ identities.
She said: “I can’t think of a show that has made you want to sit down with tiny kids as a family as much as this. A small child is not going to know who Michelle Williams is, though we all do. But they don’t care. They’re just excited to see it’s a lady.
“There’s something joyous about needing accessories to watch a TV programme! The number of people who tell me they’re sat there with a notebook and pen, like me.
“Those are my people. I’m a nerd! If we were filming this at the same time as screening it, I’d be sitting watching the TV with a notebook and pen every week. But we can’t do that or we’d all be on Google and it would be cheating.”
