OHMYGOSSIP — Simu Liu has joined the cast of the ‘Barbie’ movie.
The ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ actor is the latest big name to sign up for the highly-anticipated live-action film – which features Margot Robbie in the lead role and Ryan Gosling as Ken – but according to The Hollywood Reporter, details of his role in the project are being kept under wraps for now.
News of Simu’s casting comes a few days after it was revealed America Ferreira has also signed up to a role in the film but the ‘Superstore’ actress’ character details are also being kept under wraps.
Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach have written the script for the Warner Bros movie, with the former set to direct.
Margot will produce the movie via her LuckyChap production company alongside her husband, LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley.
Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Paddington’s David Heyman will also produce.
Ryan was previously offered the role during the summer but turned it down due to a scheduling conflict.
However, due to a delay in filming, he was able to take on the part.
Margot previously vowed to give audiences “something totally different” to what they would expect from the famous doll.
She said: “Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is’, but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”
Margot’s producing partner Josey McNamara added that the acclaimed duo will help change viewers’ expectations of the project.
He explained: “As Margot said, you think you know what the movie is with Margot as Barbie, but Greta and Noah have subverted it, and we can’t wait to get into that one.”
The film centres on Barbie being expelled from Barbie Land for failing to live up to the expectations of its residents and Robbie hopes that it will put some “positivity out in the world”.
She previously said: “I think it’s a great opportunity to put some positivity out in the world and a change to be aspirational for younger kids.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Pattinson thought ‘The Devil All the Time’ was “supposed to be a comedy”.
The 35-year-old actor portrayed a preacher who seduces young parishioners in the 2020 drama and admitted the script for the film was “so extreme” and the characters so “monstrous” he thought everything was being exaggerated for laughs.
He told the new issue of GQ magazine: ” thought that one was supposed to be a comedy. I remember reading the script and it was so extreme, with such monstrous characters, I was thinking it had to be.”
In 2019’s ‘The King’, Robert – who is the face of Dior Homme – brought light relief to the period drama with his portrayal of The Dauphin and he admitted his performance was initially “a joke” but he decided that performance was right for the film.
He said: “I’d been trying to do it seriously, but then I was talking to someone at Dior and I started mimicking them and doing it in this funnier way.
“I started doing it as a joke at first, but then I filmed myself and watched it back, and thought this actually kinda works.”
The ‘Batman’ actor recalled the early days of his career and how he dreaded having to go up against Eddie Redmayne or Andrew Garfield in auditions.
He said: “If I hadn’t gotten really lucky and had instead been forced to audition all these years, I wouldn’t have a career at all. I’m so bad it.
“Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield were so f****** good at auditioning, it’s just unbelievable. You’d see them, and then if you were waiting outside, you would literally hear casting directors inside going, Oh, my God! Oh, my God! And you’d be like, F****** hell, who’s inside? And Eddie would come out and be like, ‘Hey, mate’.
“I’d be doing something thinking it was a comedy, and suddenly hear these heaving sobs. I’m thinking, Who has managed to get a sob out of this?! And then f****** Eddie comes out, goddamnit.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez’s wedding dress in ‘Marry Me’ weighed 95lbs.
The 52-year-old star plays superstar singer Kat Valdez in the new movie and the spectacular gown she donned to wed Maluma’s Bastian on stage during a concert was “extremely heavy” and the actress needed “an entourage” of people to help her into the Zuhair Murad frock, which featured nine layers of silk taffeta, horsehair, and tulle, as well as crystals, ruffles, silver, and lace embroidery.
Costume Designer Caroline Duncan revealed to Variety: “The dress weighed 95 pounds and required five people to transport it and an entourage to get Jennifer in and out of it, but it gave the dress that volume.”
The dress was deliberately designed to be so heavy as it was meant to represent the impending burden of Kat marrying Bastian, who she ultimately discovers was unfaithful before they exchange their vows.
Caroline explained: “First, you see her get into the car, and it’s a symbol of how that wedding had gotten too big, and it wasn’t honest and has taken over her ability to see who she was marrying.
“Later, you see her in the bedroom alone on what should have been her wedding night, and here she is trapped in this claustrophobic dress that’s like the concert — bigger than she is. It’s the loneliest shot in the movie.”
Although Kat’s wardrobe features a number of designer pieces Caroline obtained from Net-a-Porter, Versace, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman , the costume designer also dressed Jennifer in more affordable streetwear so her character could feel “aspirational.
She said: “Some of the stuff was not incredibly expensive. When Bastian shows up at Charlie’s school, Kat’s outfit is from Naked Wardrobe. We were not afraid to mix higher and lower brands, because we wanted her to feel aspirational.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Aubrey Plaza “pounced” on Guy Ritchie to get cast in ‘Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre’.
The 37-year-old actress is best known for her comedy work but she has “always dreamed” of being in an action real and she admitted she pursed the part of CIA operative Sarah Fidel in a way she’s never done before.
She told Total Film magazine: “I’ve always wanted to be in an action film.
“I grew up very athletic. I was always playing sports. It’s not something I ever thought would actually happen. But it’s definitely something I’ve always dreamed of.”
Aubrey and Guy had an initial virtual meeting and then she stepped up her campaign to be cast.
She said “I heard through the grapevine that he was maybe going to meet some other people. I just pounced. I threw myself at him and said, ‘Pick me, I’m the man for the job. I’ll be funny. I’ll kick people’s butts. Whatever you want.’
“I really went there, which isn’t something I normally have done but I just felt compelled to do it. And he responded to my boldness.”
The actress stars opposite Jason Statham in the movie and made it her “mission” to get him to crack up during filming.
She said: “I enjoyed sparring with him every day. He’s surprisingly way more silly when the cameras aren’t rolling.
“So it was very funny to see him crack jokes and laugh at me.
“But then the minute the cameras are rolling, he goes back into his serious, action movie star way.
“It became kind of a sick game – me trying to make him laugh – and I definitely succeeded sometimes.
“He made me laugh too. He’s a tricky one that Statham.”
Although there were far more men on set than women, Aubrey insisted it didn’t “faze” her, though she occasionally retreated away from her new “bunch of brothers”.
She said: “It definitely felt like a boys’ club…
“It doesn’t really faze me. But there were moments when the guys would all go golfing and I’d be like, ‘Excuse me, I can golf too. What about me?’
“It felt like I had a bunch of brothers that were all roughhousing.
“Sometimes I got in there and sometimes I’d be like, ‘I’m going in my trailer to paint my nails.’ “

OHMYGOSSIP — Patrick Wilson has teased ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ will feature some spectacular stunts.
The 48-year-old actor has reprised his role as the villain Ocean Master in the upcoming sequel and he’s revealed director James Wan has embraced some “crazy” new visual effects techniques to make the move look even better than its predecessor.
He said: “We’ve got great relationships in the movie, some fantastic action sequences. We push all the fighting and the stunts…we’ve used crazy techniques between us and The Flash that have never been used before. So all these new VFX techniques that we’re using.”
Patrick thinks the movie series has found its “niche” in the comic book world so everyone involved has been able to have some freedom and “fun” with the sequel.
He told Collider: “You take those things that you think people responded to [in the first movie], even if it was, ‘Oh my God, can you believe they did that?’ Yeah, we did that. Now we’re going to do more of that. I think we found our niche.
“I think DC has found their way to understand where each movie can fit, even in a multiverse, which is so overused now, as a term.
“Clearly the movie went beyond a fanboy demographic, because it made whatever; billion dollars, right? So that affords you a freedom of, ‘You know what? Let’s keep it fun. Let’s make it fun.’ And we still have our layers of environmental issues.”
Though the actor stayed tight-lipped on storyline details, he admitted there are certain comic book references fans will enjoy.
He said: “And then storyline is… obviously not going to get into that. But James loves to pick and choose from his own mind and comics and how we bring in certain elements.
“Those little moments that even… I don’t know, pick one in the gladiator sequence. There’s an octopus playing drums. Now comic book nerds will go, ‘Yeah, well, it’s Topo. Come on, guys. That’s who it is.’ So those little moments; they’ll be a lot more of that stuff, for sure.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto only had a “minute and a half” clip of Paolo Gucci speaking to go by to master his accent in ‘House of Gucci’.
The 49-year-old actor portrayed the bumbling fashion designer in the 2021 crime drama, and he’s revealed how he learns different accents by picking up the “mistakes” and “habits” the person makes.
However, he didn’t have much to go by when preparing for the role of Italian Paolo.
He said: “I had about a minute and a half of his voice in an interview.”
Once he was done filming ‘House of Gucci’ in Italy, the ‘Suicide Squad’ star had to jet out to New York for his part as Israeli Adam Neumann in Apple TV+’s miniseries ‘WeCrashed’.
Speaking during a TCA panel, he said: “I literally went from Italy to New York, just coming from ‘House of Gucci’ where I was playing Italian, and little did I know they actually have a lot of similarities, the two accents.
“With Adam’s accent I wasn’t really doing an Israeli accent, I was doing Adam’s accent. An accent is just a series of mistakes. You learn how to say a word and maybe you don’t say it ‘correctly,’ whatever that means, but it’s just a series of habits. It’s the way your mouth makes shapes. Everyone learns theirs differently.”
The 30 Seconds to Mars rocker insisted it was easy to pick up the latter accent because he was in a “bubble” with other Israelis while shooting the drama about the rise and fall of co-working firm WeWork.
Jared added: “I think probably the insurance against things slipping into caricature is to dive into as much truth as possible, right? In this case, I had a great team of Israelis surrounding me that I was working with. We kind of had our own bubble during this time when we all were in a bubble, so that voice and that accent was around me all the time.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The nominations for the 2022 Razzie Awards have been revealed.
The ceremony that celebrates the worst movies of the year have created a special category for Bruce Willis alone this year – with his performances in ‘American Siege’, ‘Apex’, ‘Cosmic Sin’, ‘Deadlock’, ‘Fortress’, ‘Midnight in the Switchgrass’, ‘Out of Death’ and ‘Survive the Game’ all up for ‘Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie’.
The Razzie Awards will take place on March 26 in its traditional slot on the day before the Oscars.
Netflix’s ‘Diana: The Musical’ leads the field with nine nods including for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actor and Worst Actress. Both the Broadway show and the film were panned by critics and the stage production only lasted 33 performances before being closed.
Thrillers ‘Karen’ and ‘The Woman in the Window’ joined ‘Diana’ on the Worst Picture shortlist with ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ and ‘Infinite’ also making the list.
Bad acting nominations went to A-listers such as Amy Adams, LeBron James, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck and Jared Leto.

OHMYGOSSIP — Neve Campbell admits fame was “challenging” in her early 20s.
The ‘Scream’ star – who became a household name after her first appearance as Sidney Prescott in the 1996 horror classic – has opened up on her experiences with fame during an already difficult period of life.
Appearing on CBC’s ‘The Q Interview’, she said: “I think it’s hard enough to navigate your 20s, and make friends, and trust friends, and understand why people are getting to know you, and know yourself.
“And when you’re suddenly being told who you are and these perceptions of who you are, and a lot of people coming at you for friendship – it’s challenging.”
The original ‘Scream’ film was a huge success – bringing in over $173 million at the worldwide box office – and the 48-year-old actress admitted while she and her castmates felt like they’d captured “lightning in a bottle”, they had no idea about the cultural impact it would have.
She added: “The irony is, when we were shooting the first, we were on our last week, and we had a bonfire outside… We’re all sitting around.
“We’d had an amazing time. We knew there was some lightning in a bottle. The script was great, we had fun on set. The energy, the performances felt like they were being lifted off the page – and of course, it was Wes Craven [directing].
“I remember us saying, ‘Do you think if this does well that their might be a costume?’ We were like, ‘Nah, nah, no way!’ ”
Neve and returned alongside Courteney Cox and David Arquette for the fifth instalment in the film, and she knew the franchise was in good hands with ‘Ready Or Not’ filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
She explained: “So I had been genuinely worried about making one without him because you have all those questions in your mind, like, ‘Can anybody else accomplish what he accomplished and make a film that’s at the level he was capable of?’
“I got a letter from Matt and Tyler, the new directors. They had expressed the fact that they had become directors because of Wes Craven, and that they made their realy fantastic movie ‘Ready Or Not’ because of the ‘Scream’ films.
“I had seen that film before I knew they were involved in this and I thought it was a great movie. So, when I realised it was them I went, ‘Oh, I think they could do this!’ ”
