OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Titanic’ has been voted as Britain’s favourite period drama movie.
The 1997 blockbuster that was directed by James Cameron and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet came out on top after being chosen by a quarter of Brits in a survey of 2,000 moviegoers.
Russell Crowe’s ‘Gladiator’ finished second and was followed by the Oscar-winning ‘The King’s Speech’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ in the Showcase Cinemas poll.
Family favourites such as ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Ben-Hur’ made the list with ‘Dunkirk’, ’12 Years A Slave’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘1917’ also featuring in the top ten.
The company’s Mark Barlow said: “The big screen has provided us with so many incredible dramas.”
‘Titanic’ was helmed by James Cameron, who recently revealed that he was hoping to make six-hour movies for streaming services such as Netflix and enjoys the “chaos” that has been brought to Hollywood in recent years.
The 67-year-old filmmaker said: “I’m not afraid. I like change. I’m a child of the 60s. I like it when things are chaotic. I think what we can see is an expanded form of cinema. I want to do a movie that’s six hours long and two and a half hours long at the same time. Same movie.
“You can stream it for six hours, or you can go and have a more condensed, rollercoaster, immersive version of that experience in a movie theatre. Same movie. Just, one’s the novel, and one’s the movie. Why not? Let’s just use these platforms in ways that haven’t been done before.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Raimi was told there were “about 18 directors” Sony Pictures would “rather have” than him helming ‘Spider-Man’ – before landing the job.
The 62-year-old filmmaker has revealed how he attended an interview for the job with Sony bosses, during which he spoke for an hour about the comics and then abruptly stopped talking, thanked the executives, and got up to leave because he “didn’t want to overstay [his] welcome”.
He told Variety: “My agent, Josh Donen, said, ‘They want to be honest with you. There’s about 18 directors they’d rather have than you on a list.’
“And I said, ‘OK, well, tell them I’m number 19.’
“I was very aware of how they didn’t want me. So I really didn’t want to also overstay my welcome.”
Marvel Studios chief Avi Arad admitted the film’s bosses knew Raimi wasn’t in it for the money.
He said: “Sam was unique. Sam didn’t come into it for money. Sam was a guy who needed to make it.”
Raimi went on to helm ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Spider-Man 2’, and ‘Spider-Man 3’ from 2002 to 2007, starring Tobey Maguire as the web-slinging superhero and Kirsten Dunst as his love interest Mary Jane Watson.
Earlier this month, the director admitted he would love to make more ‘Spider-Man’ films with Maguire and Dunst.
He said: “I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible.
“I’d love to come back and tell another tale, especially with the great management they’ve got there.
“I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful.
“Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The title of the first ‘Avatar’ sequel has been unveiled.
Walt Disney Studios confirmed that ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ will be released in cinemas on December 16 at the CinemaCon event at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace on Wednesday (27.04.22).
A synopsis read: “Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
The follow-up to the 2009 sci-fi epic will once again be helmed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau.
The cast includes Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.
In order “to whet audiences’ appetites”, the original flick is being re-released in cinemas on September 23.
Zoe, who is reprising her role as Neytiri, recently teased that she was reduced to tears watching an emotional clip from the upcoming film.
She said: “I can get choked up just talking about it. I was able to see just 20 minutes of the second instalment, right before the year ended, last year. And I was speechless. I was moved to tears.”
The movie has taken so long to make as Cameron needed the right technology to record motion capture underwater and Zoe promised the blockbuster will be worth the wait.
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actress said: “Jim was finally able to crack that challenge – that whole thing that you can’t imitate water, virtually, through performance capture.
“That was just a challenge that he had taken upon himself, and it took him years, and he did it. He did it. It’s powerful, it’s compelling.”
There are a total of four sequels planned for the franchise.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Bacon has joined the cast of ‘Leave the World Behind’.
The 63-year-old star and Farrah Mackenzie have signed up for Sam Esmail’s Netflix movie.
The pair join a cast that includes Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Myha’la Herrold.
‘Leave the World Behind’ is based on Rumaan Alam’s novel about a family holiday on Long Island that is interrupted by a pair of strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout.
As the threat grows, both families must decide how to survive the potential crisis while figuring out their own place in the collapsing world.
Esmail has adapted the screenplay and is producing with Chad Hamilton through his Esmail Corp banner. Roberts, Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill are also producing for Red Om Films.
Meanwhile, Kevin recalled being told that he would be good for soaps and commercials before landing the lead role in the 1984 film ‘Footloose’.
He said: “They would say: ‘You’re gonna be good for the soaps and commercials. You’ll be the boy next door.'”
Bacon – who stars in mobile network EE’s TV advertising campaign – started his acting career in theatre and revealed that he was astonished when he saw a film set for the first time.
He said: “I’d only ever worked on stage so to be thrown into this – all the people, cameras, cranes, dolly tracks, walkie-talkies – my jaw absolutely dropped. But I also fell in love with it. Every piece of it felt so magnificent to me.”
The ‘Apollo 13’ actor also admits success for an actor “shouldn’t be measured by box office sales”.
Kevin said: “Success isn’t measured by box office sales. I kind of have to say that. I have probably made close to 100 movies and only a small percentage of them are successful, either financially or critically. Yet I’ve been able to keep working. If my career was really reliant on box-office success, I wouldn’t be.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Goldblum “fell back into step” on ‘Jurassic World Dominion’.
The 69-year-old actor has returned to the dinosaur franchise as Dr. Ian Malcolm and says he and fellow original stars Sam Neill (Dr. Alan Grant) and Laura Dern (Dr. Ellie Sattler) were immediately at home on the project.
Jeff told PEOPLE: “We totally fell back into step.”
The ‘Independence Day’ star revealed that he had a “delightful” time working with Sam and Laura – who he describes as “two of the greatest human beings on this planet”.
He said: “We had such a close experience on the first one, and they’re of course two of the greatest actors of our time in the world. And so I loved it. We’ve stayed in touch over the years, but that was so exciting.”
Laura previously gushed about the opportunity to feature in the flick – which is set to be released in June – and go down “memory lane” with Jeff and Sam.
The 55-year-old star said: “I can say that it was incredible to be back together. It was an amazing thing to join my original cast members and go down memory lane, from that experience in the beginning of a franchise through the whole course of these films together with all the key cast members who have been working on these movies, as well as (director) Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, who is like family to me.”
Colin previously confirmed that ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ has a different formula to the past films in the series as the dinosaur have made their way around the globe.
He said: “They have been multiplying and living amongst us and clashing with us.
“(The other ‘Jurassic Park’ movies) pretty much have the same story. But ‘Dominion’ is set all over the world, through many different environments: wilderness, urban, desert, snow. It’s exciting to see these creatures navigate environments that they weren’t built to survive in. They grew up in a theme park and now they’re here!”

OHMYGOSSIP — The title for the new ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ movie has been revealed.
Chris Pine and ‘Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page will co-star in the movie, which is set for release on March 3, 2023, and the name of the film ‘Dungeons Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’, has just been revealed on its social media accounts.
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s film is based on the fantasy game of the same name and Chris, 41, previously described it as a mixture of ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Princess Bride’.
He said: “Oh man. Well, what I will say is we had a hell of a fun time making it. There was a lot of laughs.
“The way that I’ve been describing it, it’s like ‘Game of Thrones’ mixed with a little ‘Princess Bride’, just a smidge of ‘Holy Grail’; it’s somewhere in that ballpark.
“It’s a lot of fun. It’s got a lot of thrills. It’s poppy, it’s eighties heartfelt, there’s a bit of ‘Goonies’ in there.”
The ‘Star Trek’ actor’s role in the flick – which is also set to star Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant – is yet to be disclosed but Chris said his alter ego is the “ultimate party planner”.
He said: “My character, he’s the ultimate party planner. I think he’s going to be really good. I mean, who f****** knows, but I think we got a good shot and Jon and John are killer guys.
“They know comedy and they know heart and we had a great cast and we had a good time making it. And that’s all you can ask for.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Vin Diesel has told how the ‘Fast X’ script initially excluded Jordana Brewster’s character.
The 54-year-old actor, who plays Dominic Toretto in the high-speed film franchise, took to Instagram to admit he was devastated when he first read that his on-screen sister Mia Toretto wasn’t in the forthcoming film.
He posted: “When the F10 script came in, it excluded Mia Toretto…. Someone whom I’ve attributed the brotherhood of Dom and Brian to… I was so disappointed that I couldn’t see how I could continue… After all, I wasn’t going to make another Fast unless Brian was back in Four… I don’t need to remind you of the petitions you sent the studio for Letty’s return at the the end of FIve. (sic)”
Diesel – who has girls Hania, 14, and Pauline, seven, and 12-year-old son Vincent – admitted he has one of his daughters to thank for getting Brewster’s character into the movie, the 10th of the film franchise.
He added: “Side note, you will never believe who corrected the very important role of Mia… my daughter, the Alpha Angel, who told the director very plainly and honestly “NO MIA NO FAST 10!” haha. The irony, is that the day she was born I was filming with Jordanna and Pablo and it was Jordanna who I first told… profound right? (sic)”
Diesel also admitted he constantly thinks about his former ‘The Fast and the Furious’ co-star Paul Walker, who was killed in a car accident on Thanksgiving weekend 2013 in Los Angeles aged 40.
He added: “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t want to turn back time, talk Pablo out of heading back to LA that thanksgiving weekend… every Fast film I make must at the core always honor my brother Pablo. In the real world, I will always look after his family, because in the real world he is family. When his daughter asked me to walk her down the isle… I tear up, and then do it with pride and and honor… when his mother asks me to bring Brian back to the screen… well, I don’t have to tell you how serious I take that. Fast could never have been here without the profound love and brotherhood between Dom and Brian, established in 2001. Yeah, I am talking too much, but damn, life is short and your comment touched me and hit a cord. Thank you for believing in me, in us… I won’t rest until I make you, him… and the universe proud.

Brewster – who has played Mia since the first movie, ‘The Fast and the Furious’, in 2001 – commented: “I love you brother.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Eggers felt historical accuracy was essential in ‘The Northman’.
The 38-year-old director has helmed the historical epic that is set during the Viking period and explained that he wanted the movie to be accurate even if little is known about the period.
Robert told The Playlist: “It’s just the approach I enjoy. I enjoy the act of researching the way some people might enjoy skiing! I just like it.
“But it’s also a kind of discipline, and if the goal is to get inside the head of people in the Viking Age, then the way they expressed themselves in their clothing and their architecture needs to be right too, I think. And also, the atmosphere is an accumulation of details; it’s why we have the landscapes and the elements.
“The more visual information that can be on the edges, I think, makes the world more credible. But you’re right, we don’t know a lot of things about Vikings, and I tend to choose the academic consensus.”
‘The Northman’ is Robert’s biggest film to date and he explained how he was able to improve the picture through test screenings.
‘The Lighthouse’ director said: “I knew I was not going to have final cut, and so in post-production, that’s where things were new and more difficult for me.
“For example, the test screening process – which, by the way, I learned stuff about the film! It made the film better. Did I like it? No. Did I like the studio pressure and the studio notes? No. Did they make the film better? Yes. Did I need it to make the film better? Yes.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Reinaldo Marcus Green is open to directing a James Bond movie with Idris Elba as 007.
The ‘King Richard’ director has revealed that he would be willing to helm a movie in the iconic spy series if the ‘Luther’ star replaced Daniel Craig in the lead role.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reinaldo said: “I want to go in that direction. I want to be able to add value to a new Bond. I grew up watching popcorn movies, so if I could add a little something to it, that would be cool.”
Green, who has directed the TV series ‘We Own This City’, wants to team up with writers Dave Simon and George Pelecanos for the potential movie.
He explained: “Let’s see if Idris wants to do it. I think (‘We Own This City’ and ‘The Wire’ writers) Dave and George could call Idris and see what we could do.”
Daniel Craig’s tenure as Bond came to an end in last year’s film ‘No Time to Die’ and producer Barbara Broccoli has hinted that Idris is “part of the conversation” for the casting of the next 007.
She said: “Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor. And, you know, it’s been a part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat.”
Broccoli added that there is no rush to replace Craig as she wants the cast and crew to savour his final 007 movie.
The 61-year-old producer said: “I think we have decided that until ‘No Time To Die’ has had its run and Daniel has been able to – well, we’ve all been able to savour, reap the benefits of Daniel’s wonderful tenure, we’re not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else.”
