OHMYGOSSIP — A new ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ series is set to be filmed in South Africa.
ITV bosses will try to return to Australia for the main show later this year – after the programme was filmed in Wales for two years, due to the coronavirus pandemic – but in the meantime a two-week series is set to be pre-recorded in July with co-hosts Ant and Dec
An insider explained: “This is a brilliant reserve plan in case COVID restrictions come round again in the Autumn and the cast and crew can’t get Down Under, as has happened for the past two years.
“There is no appetite to go back to Wales. It was great while it lasted but it’s just too dark and damp. Everyone’s had enough, including the viewers.”
It’s thought the South Africa series, which would likely be shot in the Kruger National Park, could air in November or early next year.
The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We need sun and new challenges. If we can get back to Australia – fantastic. Then South Africa would air early next year.
“Aussie authorities are pretty tough when it comes to COVID lockdowns and restrictions. If we can’t go, we’ll have this one ready for autumn, to air ahead of the World Cup. It’s a solid plan B, a win-win.”
According to MailOnline, ‘I’m A Celebrity’ bosses’ South Africa-set series will be a spin-off of the main show.
A source said: “The team behind ‘I’m A Celebrity’ are making a brand new spin-off of the hit series featuring the most loved, favourite campmates from previous years.
“The campmates will be doing trials and living in the camp environment, but with fresh and exciting new twists, and they will have a hand in their own destiny through a series of internal votes and challenges.
“The new edition is likely to air in 2023 but before that viewers will get to enjoy the show’s much anticipated return to Australia in November.”
‘I’m A Celebrity’ first aired in 2002 and has been on for 21 series.
