Bryce Dallas Howard hails strong females in Jurassic World Dominion

OHMYGOSSIP — Bryce Dallas Howard is grateful that female characters have a prominent role in the ‘Jurassic World’ films.
The 41-year-old actress returns as Claire Dearing in the new film ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ and is proud to be part of a strong female ensemble in the dinosaur franchise.
In a clip celebrating female characters in the new film, Bryce said: “I adore that there are so many female characters who are different because we’re not all what would typically present a strong, feminine or a superhero in classic adventure films.
“‘Jurassic’ is a very pro-female franchise. As it started, all the dinosaurs were female. They were women. And they’re inherent in the idealisation of that female strength female power.”
Laura Dern returns to the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise in the new blockbuster as Dr. Ellie Sattler and Bryce revealed how she was inspired by the character as she was growing up.
She recalled: “Dr. Ellie Sattler was such an iconic character and such an important character because she’s a scientist and palebotanist. It was really important to see an inspiring character like that.”
Laura revealed how she and Steven Spielberg, who directed the original film, were aware of the importance of Dr. Sattler and is grateful to see how much the character has been appreciated.
The 55-year-old star said: “That felt really exciting that that became a takeaway for people who loved the film. She’s badass and physically strong and complicated and funny. I would say that for all the female characters in this franchise.”

Deborah Chow says Obi-Wan Kenobi appeals to more than just Star Wars fan

OHMYGOSSIP — Deborah Chow believes ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ works on a “human level”.
The director has helmed the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off series for Disney+ but doesn’t think it is essential to have seen previous projects in the legendary sci-fi franchise to enjoy the new show – which marks the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to their roles as Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader respectively.
Speaking to Collider, Deborah said: “I would definitely say that would if you’ve seen the prequels. So I think if you do have time to watch one thing, the prequels would certainly be a help in understanding the show.
“It’s tricky because obviously we are so in the middle of two trilogies with these big legacy characters. Joby (Harold), who’s the writer and I, when we were doing the development, were really trying to make sure that we’d always do a reality check to go, ‘If we take the ‘Star Wars’ out of this, does this still work, just on a human level?'”
Chow continued: “I guess if you didn’t know anything at all about ‘Star Wars’, which feels like it’d be hard to find a person who maybe doesn’t know anything, I think you could still watch it. You may not get every single reference or understand everything, but I think hopefully it still works just on a human level.”
The filmmaker revealed that most of the material that had been filmed made it into the final cut.
She said: “It’s interesting, almost everything was on the screen. There was very little actually that got cut. Obviously we were shooting this through COVID and it is quite an ambitious project.
“So it was kind of great actually at the end of the day that the vast majority of what we shot actually is on screen.”

Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright has been plagued by doubt during his life

OHMYGOSSIP — Ian Wright has suffered from doubt throughout his life.
The former footballer has teamed up with Cadbury on its ‘Give A Doubt’ campaign – in partnership with The Prince’s Trust – as research has revealed that nearly three-quarters of people experience doubts on a daily basis.
Asked what inspired him to get involved, Ian said: “I connected with the campaign message straight away. It’s also how so many people, specifically young people are feeling. We don’t talk about this a lot but when do it’s often that feeling nervous or doubtful is a weakness and it’s not, it’s normal.”
Wright admits that he has been plagued by uncertainty by his failure to finish school and says it was at its worst when he retired from playing.
The former Arsenal and England striker said: “This specific doubt and anxiety started when I retired and I was navigating my way through my post-playing career plans which were largely all about TV and light entertainment. I wasn’t TV trained, I didn’t come through private school, I was an ex-footballer that didn’t finish school and all of a sudden, there I was hosting a prime time game show and broadcasting on ‘Match of the Day’. I doubted whether I could be myself or if I needed to be a version of myself that people would accept.”
Wright hopes to inspire others to be open about their doubts with his participation in the campaign.
Asked why it is so important to young people, he said: “Because this campaign really is about helping people. It’s about accepting who we are as people, and celebrating our doubts instead of rejecting them as weaknesses.”

Gemma Collins pulls out of Chicago tour a week before opening night

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins has pulled out of the UK tour of ‘Chicago’.
The 41-year-old reality star had been poised to make her musical theatre debut as prison matron Mama Morton in the classic musical when the show arrives at Sunderland Empire next Tuesday (31.05.22) but has been left “inconsolable” after being forced to pull out because of a knee injury she sustained on ‘Dancing on Ice’ back in 2019.
A source told The Sun: “Gemma is absolutely gutted she’s had to pull out of ‘Chicago’. She has been in floods of tears and is inconsolable. Gemma realised her knee wouldn’t stand up to the gruelling schedule She had a bad fall on ‘Dancing On Ice’ and an injury to her knee then started to flare up, as it has done before from time to time.'”
The ‘Diva Forever’ star – who famously lost control of her balance while competing on the ITV skating show and crashed face-down into the rink – is said to have known the part so well that directors let her “cut down” on rehearsals but one “last-ditch” attempt at sorting her knee problem led her to quitting the show altogether.
The source added: “She knew her lines off by heart and was even told she could cut down rehearsals because she knew the part inside out. She had an X ray two weeks ago and then went to see someone about her knee last Friday which meant she missed a rehearsal. It was a last-ditch attempt to gauge the problem before the opening night. However she has had to admit defeat and accept the inevitable. She is still able to walk around but dancing, singing and acting in 48 performances over six weeks with all the travelling stuck in a car meant she wouldn’t be able to give the part her all.”
Producers of the musical also confirmed Gemma’s exit from the production and wished her all the best for the future.
A statement read: “Gemma Collins’ management have informed the producers of Chicago she will no longer be appearing in the UK Tour of the show due to a knee injury. The Producers of Chicago wish Gemma all the best for the future.”
‘Chicago’ – which tells the story of two women who end up in jail accused of murder and become tabloid sensations – has been on tour throughout the UK for almost a year and also stars ex-‘Coronation Street’ actress Faye Brookes.
While there is no word on who will replace Gemma in the role that was made famous by Queen Latifah in the Oscar-winning film, it is currently being played by 80s pop singer Sinitta, who is due to complete her run in the show later this week.

Alongside an animated video, a tweet from the show’s official account read: “Here’s your first hot date of the summer. #LoveIsland is back Monday 6th June on @itv2 and @itvhub!”(sic)
While no contestants have been announced, an official lineup should be out in due course, with Laura Whitmore set to return to her role as host and husband Iain Stirling joining her once again to narrate the series.
News of the launch date comes just hours after Ian claimed that the upcoming eighth series will be the “sexiest” yet following its move to a brand new villa.
He said: “I know it’s got a fire pit because I talked about that in the trailer and I imagine if there’s more working out space it’ll be the sexiest series we’ve ever had.

He said: “I’ve not seen the villa. I like to wait and see it on the first day and meet the Islanders for the first time, so I’m like a viewer seeing it for the first time, too. That’s my vibe … or maybe it’s just me being a little bit lazy.”
Iain also admitted he is “really proud” of the show and didn’t expect it to be such a hit.
He told OK! magazine: “None of us expected it to become so big, so the fact we had so much fun making it and then all of a sudden it is

Samuel L Jackson joins Garfield cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of ‘Garfield’.
The 73-year-old actor will voice the lasagna-loving, Monday-hating cat’s father Vic – a new character created for the upcoming movie, which stars Chris Pratt in the lead role – in Alcon Entertainment’s animated feature film based on the iconic comic strip of the same name.
Jackson will voice the new character alongside Pratt’s take on ginger feline Garfield in a movie based on a script written by David Reynolds, with director Mark Dindal at the helm.
Sony Pictures will distribute the movie globally – besides China – with the ‘Garfield’ comic’s creator Davis serving as executive producers.
Cartoonist Jim Davis first created the loveable ginger cat for a comic in 1978, and the titular moggy was joined by owner Jon Arbuckle and his pet dog Odie.
The mischievous kitty made its big-screen debut in the live-action/animated 2004 film ‘Garfield’, which got a sequel, ‘Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties’, two years later.
Pratt is no stranger to voice acting, having already voiced Barley Lightfoot in Disney Pixar’s ‘Onward’ and Emmett in ‘The Lego Movie’, and it was previously announced that the star is set to voice Mario in the new ‘Super Mario Bros’ movie.
Meanwhile, Jackson – who has appeared in hit films like the ‘Star Wars’ prequels and ‘Jurassic Park’ during a prolific big screen career – recently explained he gravitates towards flicks he would have enjoyed when he was younger.
Samuel said: “I don’t do a lot of cinematic character studies. I tend to do popcorn movies and movies that I would have gone to see when I was a kid, movies that make me happy.
“Because, I think, people go to the movies to be drawn into joy and excitement of life.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Derry Girls’ star Jamie-Lee O’Donnell is fronting a new documentary about her home city.
The actress – who played Michelle Mallon in all three series of the Channel 4 sitcom – is teaming up with the broadcaster for a special project entitled ‘The Real Derry: Jamie-Lee O’Donnell’.
The documentary will explore the star’s own upbringing in the Catholic community in Northern Ireland, as well as how things have changed since she grew up.

In a press release, Channel 4 said: “Viewers will hear from real Derry girls, students at Jamie-Lee’s old school, about the regeneration of the city and why, despite this, many young people feel that they need to leave Derry to gain new skills and experiences.”

She said: “I mean let’s be honest, I would take [creator Lisa McGee’s] phone call any day of the week about anything. But because every single character has so many layers to them and different personalities, the spin-off possibilities are endless.
“It would be interesting to see if that’s something Lisa is interested in.”

Dame Deborah James is ‘scared to fall asleep’ and doesn’t know how long she’s got to live

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Deborah James doesn’t know how long she’s “got left” to live.
The 40-year-old podcaster and blogger moved to end of life care earlier this month after battling bowel cancer since 2016, and admitted she is feeling “exhausted”.
She told The Sun newspaper: “The truth is, I don’t know how long I’ve got left. I don’t feel like I’m on my deathbed.
“I’m not planning on dying anytime soon but it’s just so unpredictable.
“I’m scared to fall asleep and that’s one of the biggest reasons I’m so tired. I am scared to go to sleep.”
Deborah is under the care of a hospice team and her family at her parents’ home, and while she’s in more discomfort than pain, she was dealing with stomach problems over the weekend.
She added: “It’s ironic, I’ve spent the last five years talking about poo, and breaking the poo taboo. It’s typical I suffer with a s*** stomach now.
“I think my family are knackered, they have all been incredible – going above and beyond to look after me and nurse me.
“What I have seen from them in the last two weeks is true love, deep love. It’s overwhelming. They have all been amazing.”
She explained that her family are under a “huge” amount of pressure as she “can’t do anything anymore without their help”.
However, she still has good days among the bad, and she is making sure she doesn’t let her children Eloise, 12, and 14-year-old Hugo – whom she shares with husband Sebastian Bowen – see her at her worst.
She said: “I feel very strongly that I don’t want my kids to see me agitated and distressed.
“I want to make sure they see me when I’m having a good day.”

Glen Powell: Top Gun: Maverick is better than the original

OHMYGOSSIP — Glen Powell thinks ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ “raises the bar in every way”.
The 33-year-old actor stars in the action sequel as Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin and thinks that the new blockbuster surpasses the iconic 1986 original film that made Tom Cruise a leading star in Hollywood.
Speaking to IndieWire, Glen said: “I thought that movie is magical. It’s lasted for a reason. And over the years, as I’ve watched it, many, many times and shared it with many people, it hasn’t lost a bit of that magic.
“I think to return to it was kind of a daunting idea, definitely daunting for Tom, who I know was hesitant to do it because retreading on the movie that made him a movie star is a lot. How to beat it? How to return to that tone?”
Powell continued: “I think what’s incredible about what we did in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, we took that tone, updated it, made the aerial sequences even more extreme, and took a character and a story and really found a way that was new and fresh.
“I just think the timing, especially with the technology, the IMAX cameras in the back of these jets and putting real actors back there, I think we raised the bar in every way.”
Glen was amazed to work alongside Cruise on the movie and was impressed with how the actor cared for the rest of the cast.
The ‘Hidden Figures’ actor said of his co-star: “He’s truly one of a kind. You and I both have been around Hollywood and movies and actors, and rarely do your heroes live up to your expectations. And Tom is one of those guys who’s just so special.
“Movie stars tend to push themselves away from the pack, and he’s a guy that really cares about everybody, all the young guns in this movie, he really made sure that we looked as cool as possible on camera, were taken care of, listened to, and had an amazing ride.”
