OHMYGOSSIP — Ruben Ostlund’s ‘Triangle of Sadness’ has won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The 48-year-old filmmaker has won the coveted accolade for the second time in his career, having previously won the award for 2017’s ‘The Square’.
Ruben said: “We wanted after the screening [for people] to go out together and have something to talk about.
“All of us agree that the unique thing with cinema is that we’re watching together. So we have to save something to talk about but we should also have fun and be entertained.”
Lukas Dhont’s drama ‘Close’ and Claire Denis’ romantic thriller ‘Stars at Noon’ shared the jury’s second prize, the grand prix,
Meanwhile, South Korean star Song Kang-ho won the coveted Best Actor gong for his performance in ‘Broker’, which tells the story of a Korean family who seek a home for an abandoned child.
The 55-year-old actor – who previously starred in ‘Parasite’, which won the Palme d’Or award in Cannes three years ago – said: “I’d like to thank all those who appreciate Korean cinema.”
Zar Amir Ebrahimi won the Best Actress award for her performance in ‘Holy Spider’, the crime thriller based on a true story about a serial killer who targeted sex workers.
The actress – who was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran – explained that the movie depicts “everything that’s impossible to show” in her home country.
Elsewhere, Tarik Saleh won the Best Screenplay prize for ‘Boy From Heaven’, while ‘War Pony’ was named as the winner of the Camera d’Or.
This year’s festival was the first time in three years that it’s been held with full audiences, following a total cancellation of the event in 2020 and introduction of COVID-19 restrictions in 2021.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ewan McGregor has insisted the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Disney+ series is just a “standalone” limited series for the time being.
The Scottish actor reprised his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new show of the same name, but he has insisted there is no plans for future episodes or a spin-off movie at this stage.
Speaking to Collider.com, he said: “Well, at the moment, we’re just doing the six episodes. It was very much set up and made to be a limited series. So, that’s how it stands at the moment. Listen, if it does very well and Disney are excited about the prospect of doing another one…I loved doing it. I loved working with Deborah Chow. I loved working with the new technology.
“And I thought our scripts were really good. And I feel like the experience of doing it with the crew who were so passionate about it. So many Star Wars fans in the crew of ‘Star Wars’ projects nowadays that it makes the experience really exciting. So, I’d be totally up for doing more. But I can guarantee, at the moment, it’s just a standalone thing.”
That’s not to stay Ewan isn’t keen to do a Kenobi movie.
He previously told the same outlet: “I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s (Guinness) Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a – I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Actor Damian Lewis is to receive an award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his charity work.
The grieving ‘Homeland’ star, whose ‘Peaky Blinders’ actress wife Helen McCrory last year died of cancer aged 52 , will this week be awarded a CBE.
Lewis has quietly carried out work for a string of charities over the years – including with tragic wife of 14 years.
A friend told The Sun: “This is richly deserved for all the work Damian has done for so many people with so much done with little or no public fanfare.”
The royal recognition comes after Lewis, who has had roles in ‘Billions’ and played Henry VIII in the BBC’s ‘Wolf Hall’, was awarded an OBE by Prince William in 2014.
Father-of-two Lewis is an ambassador for organisations including youth charity The Prince’s Trust and he last year said he and Helen helped raise £1.5million to feed NHS staff during the Covid lockdowns.
He was last seen on TV this month co-hosting the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration at Windsor Castle.
The actor was also joined by a host of stars this month for a memorial service for his late wife.
Mourners at St Paul’s Church in central London included actors Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Keeley Hawes.
Helen – who played matriarch Aunt Polly Gray in gangster drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ and starred in the ‘Harry Potter’ series and James Bond film ‘Skyfall’ – has as part of her legacy the McCrory Award with the charity HvH Arts to help gifted children fulfil their potential.
It was set up by her husband.
Lewis said about her life she “shone more brightly in the last months than you would imagine even the brightest star could shine”.
He added in a tribute: “I’ve never known anyone so consciously spread happiness.
“Even when dying in her last few days, when talking to our wonderful carers, she repeatedly said, ‘Thank you so much’ in her half-delirious state.”
Helen joked about her husband having future relationships before she passed.
Lewis added: “She said to us from her bed, ‘I want daddy to have girlfriends, lots of them, you must all love again, love isn’t possessive, but you know, Damian, try at least to get though the funeral without snogging someone’.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Hamm says ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is an “unprecedented experience visually”.
The 51-year-old actor stars as Cyclone in the long-awaited action sequel, and he says the new camera technology they used took the aerobatic sequence and the aerial sequences to a whole other level never seen in cinema before.
In an interview with Collider, he said: “The technology and the camera work on this is unprecedented. The way that they shot this. The Sony camera that they used has the ability to move the body from the lens. So you can kind of put the lens anywhere and its attached by wire.
“The ability to get shots that have never been seen before, especially in the aerobatic sequences and the aerial sequences, I think it will really make people’s jaws drop.
“You’ve seen a couple of examples in the trailer, but the actual experience of watching the film is really going to open people’s eyes and that’s 100 per cent Claudio [Miranda, cinematographer] and Joe the director.
“Everybody was really on the same page of really delivering an unprecedented experience visually.”
Jon’s comments on the film echo those of co-star Glen Powell.
The 33-year-old actor – who plays Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin – thinks that the new blockbuster surpasses the iconic 1986 original film that made Tom Cruise a leading star in Hollywood.
He said this week: “I thought that movie is magical. It’s lasted for a reason. And over the years, as I’ve watched it, many, many times and shared it with many people, it hasn’t lost a bit of that magic.
“I think to return to it was kind of a daunting idea, definitely daunting for Tom, who I know was hesitant to do it because retreading on the movie that made him a movie star is a lot. How to beat it? How to return to that tone?”
He continued: “I think what’s incredible about what we did in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, we took that tone, updated it, made the aerial sequences even more extreme, and took a character and a story and really found a way that was new and fresh.
“I just think the timing, especially with the technology, the IMAX cameras in the back of these jets and putting real actors back there, I think we raised the bar in every way.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Harrison Ford has confirmed ‘Indiana Jones 5’ is “almost complete”.
The 79-year-old actor – who plays the titular archaeologist in the long-running franchise – is “really proud” of the motion picture, and has told how he had a “wonderful experience” teaming up with director James Mangold and producers Kathy Kennedy and Frank Marshall.
Speaking during a surprise appearance at the Star Wars Celebration at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on Thursday (26.05.22), he said: “We have almost completed the next Indiana Jones film, featuring the music of John Williams.
“And I had a wonderful experience working with James Mangold, with Kathy and Frank again. I’m really proud of the movie that we made. So, I’ll be seeing you around campus.”
The movie, which will be released on June 30, 2023, is yet to have an official titled attached to it.
Harrison’s comments come after his ‘Indiana Jones 5’ co-star Mads Mikkelsen recently described the legendary actor as a “very nice, monster of a man” after he was blown away by how fit the Hollywood star – who turns 80 in July – is.
He said: “Not just as an actor, but physically. I remember the first day we were shooting, it was a night shoot, then we stopped at 5am — and then he got on his mountain bike and went biking for 50 kilometres.
“Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster.”
Mikkelsen – whose role is not known at this time – also admitted it has felt like they were making a Steven Spielberg flick, even though the director was replaced by James Mangold.
He explained: “It felt like a Spielberg film, though it’s obviously James making it with the same vision.
“It just oozed that golden period of serials from the 1940s – and that’s in the fifth film as well.
“They’re going heavily back to the first and second film and getting that original feel, the original Indy, something dense and epic.”
Last summer, filming was delayed after Harrison suffered a shoulder injury.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Hamm thinks ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has struck the right balance between nostalgia and originality.
The 51-year-old actor portrays Vice Admiral Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson in the long-awaited follow-up to 1986’s ‘Top Gun’ and he thinks the movie offers something for both fans of the first film and also newcomers to the franchise.
He said: “It’s so redolent of the first film and hits all those nostalgic elements, but it really does stand on its own. The interesting thing about coming back to a truly beloved property after so much time is that there’s two generations of kids who have never seen the original movie.
“If they have, they saw it on cable or something, but they didn’t have the experience of going to see it in a theatre. So for this generation, this is a brand new thing, and [‘Top Gun: Maverick’] is going to be what the original was to its generation.”
The movie’s release has been much delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Jon thinks that has only served to build “expectation and anticipation” for the project.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “My 15-year-old self is blown away, as is my 51-year-old self. I’m on both sides of that equation.
“It was a tremendous experience made more interesting by the fact that it had to be put on hold and paused for two years.
“The unintended consequence of that is that it built expectation and anticipation. Paramount knew that they had something really good.
“Tom [Cruise] certainly knew that he had something really good. At various points during shooting, he would grab me and go, ‘You gotta come see this,’ and he would take me to his trailer to show me ten minutes of raw footage. And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve never seen anything like this.’ ”
The former ‘Mad Men’ star praised lead actor Tom for the way he was able to “energise” the whole set.
He said: “When you walk onto the set of a Tom Cruise movie, you know exactly where Tom Cruise is at all times. It’s usually because he’s right there in your face, smiling and welcoming you to the set.
“His enthusiasm is so incredibly obvious, but it’s also incredibly infectious. It energises the whole set. So, yes, Tom is as advertised, as they say.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Bruhl and Macaulay Culkin have joined the cast of ‘Rich Flu’.
The pair have been tapped to star opposite Rosamund Pike, who has previously been announced as the lead in the pandemic-themed thriller.
Spanish director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is helming the movie with cameras now set to roll.
Gaztelu-Urrutia has written the script with Pedro Rivero and ‘Spencer’ director Pablo Larrain is producing the project.
The flick sees a mysterious disease killing off some of the richest and most influential people on the planet starting with the billionaires, then the multi-millionaires and so on.
As it threatens to strike anyone with any sort of fortune, the world descends into panic as the human race attempts to flood the market with assets that are no longer wanted.
The film explores how far someone would go to save their skin when the wealth that made the world go round suddenly becomes deadly dangerous.
The director previously said: “‘Rich Flu’ is an immense physical saga, full of twists, obstacles and surprises. But, above all, it is a complex and provocative emotional journey to the depths of the human soul and the pinnacles of glorious self-indulgence.”
Macaulay shot to fame as a child in the 1990s thanks to his role as Kevin McAllister in the ‘Home Alone’ movies and will document his experience of getting older in the Lightbox documentary series ‘Macaulay Culkin’s Midlife Crisis’ after he tweeted about turning 40.
In a statement, Culkin said: “Wow, Lightbox. Thanks for reminding me I’m in my 40s. Well, rather than make a big deal about it I figure we should just make a show about it. Makes sense.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Baz Luhrmann has been moved by Priscilla Presley’s praise for ‘Elvis’
The 59-year-old filmmaker was emotional as he reflected on Priscilla’s review of the biopic – which features Austin Butler as the King of Rock and Roll – in which she described the flick about her late former husband as “outstanding”.
At a press conference for the movie, Baz said: “No critique, no review was ever going to mean more to us than the one from the woman who was married to him.
“She said: ‘If my husband was here today, he’d say, ‘Hot damn, you are me’… it was the best review I’ve ever had.”
The film stars Tom Hanks as Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker, who was infamous for cheating the music icon out of a fair share of royalties for his songs, but the actor believes that his alter ego should be recognised for his part in making Elvis a megastar.
Hanks said: “I’ve heard from many people that he was a delightful guy, lit up every room. Was he a cheap crook who played fast and loose with the money? Yeah, (but) he brought joy to everything he did. With just a little bit of larceny.
“Baz said there was no Elvis without Colonel Tom Parker, it was a completely symbiotic relationship. You have to give him credit and see the reality that the amount of ways Colonel Parker cheated people out of nickles and dimes was extraordinary.”
Luhrmann’s movie follows Elvis from his childhood poverty through his emergence as a global superstar before his untimely death at the age of just 42 in 1977 and the director wants audiences to have an immersive experience when watching the film.
The ‘Moulin Rouge!’ director said: “I want the audience who don’t care about Elvis to feel what it was like to be there (when he first performed). He was the original punk rocker.”
