OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Smith has joined the ‘Strictly Ballroom: The Musical’ tour alongside Kevin Clifton.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress will play Fran in the stage show alongside the ex-‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer – who she won the ‘Strictly’ Children in Need special alongside in 2019 – as Scott Hastings.
‘Strictly’ judge Craig Revel Horwood will direct the musical, which is based on Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 movie ‘Strictly Ballroom’.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, Maisie said: “We met a couple of years ago, I started my brief ‘Strictly’ journey with Kevin, so it’s only fitting now we get to continue it now in a musical.”
Kevin added: “We hit it off straight away when we were dancing on the Children in Need special, I thought Maisie was such a good dancer. She was so great to teach.”
The pro dancer revealed Maisie had “smashed” her audition for the musical, so he was confident she would land the role.
He added: “I’ve been waiting to find out who was playing Fran in ‘Strictly Ballroom’ for quite a while and I was told Maisie smashed the audition. I had some inside info, so I knew there was a chance you might be doing it, so I’m delighted.”
The musical begins touring in Portsmouth on September 26th, and according to the show’s website, Maisie is currently scheduled to appear until 25th March 2023.
Maisie – who played Tiffany Butcher-Baker in the BBC One soap from 2008 until earlier this year- took part in Strictly’s 19th series in 2020, finishing joint second alongside pro dancer Gorka Márquez.
