David Harbour got advice from Ryan Reynolds when Hellboy flopped

OHMYGOSSIP — David Harbour turned to Ryan Reynolds for advice when 2019’s ‘Hellboy’ was on the brink of flopping.
The ‘Stranger Things’ star, 47, has revealed he went to the 45-year-old actor for reassurance that he was “gonna survive this” as the Canadian star had experienced the same with his 2011 movie ‘Green Lantern’.
Speaking to the latest issue of GQ Hype, he said: “I know [Ryan] a little bit. I called him and I was like, Hey man, I just need to know something. You know ‘Green Lantern?’ Huge flop for you.
“What the f*** is that like, because I think I’m going to hit that right now. Am I gonna be okay? Am I gonna survive this?”
David played the titular demonic hero in the 2019 revamp directed by Neil Marshall but it was savaged by critics and bombed at the box office.
And the ‘Black Widow’ actor previously admitted he can see why the project was a bad idea because audiences simply cherished Guillermo del Toro’s two ‘Hellboy’ movies too much to give the fresh flick a chance.
Speaking on Instagram Live in 2020, he said: “I think it failed before we began shooting because I think that people didn’t want us to make the movie and for some reason that we thought could be reinvented and then they certainly – the loudness of the internet was like, ‘We do not want you to touch this.’
“And then we made a movie that I think is fun and I think had its problems but was a fun movie and then people were just very against it and that’s people’s right but I learned my lesson in a lot of different ways.”
Guillermo’s ‘Hellboy’ films starred Ron Perlman as the Dark Horse Comics character and were hugely popular with critics and audiences alike. He had planned to make a third movie but it was scrapped due to a lack of funding.
Harbour previously claimed the reboot was fundamentally flawed because there were too many voices contributing to the project.
Likening the project to chocolate, he explained: “It’s like chocolate, it’s a flavour. So everybody goes, ‘Chocolate is delicious and these guys make the best chocolate.’
“So as you judge the movies, it’s like, ‘Well it’s not as chocolatey as this; this does not taste like chocolate at all.’
“And I want a world where there’s more flavours than just comparisons to chocolate. So in that way, when Hellboy is viewed on the chocolate spectrum, it does very poorly.”

Barbie cast had sleepovers with ping pong games

OHMYGOSSIP — The stars of the new ‘Barbie’ movie have been treated to cast sleepovers with games of ping pong.
Margot Robbie plays the beloved children’s character in a new movie directed by Greta Gerwig opposite Ryan Gosling as Ken – and castmember Emma Mackey has revealed there’s been plenty of behind-the-scenes fun during filming.
The ‘Sex Education’ star told Empire magazine: “Right in the beginning, we had a sleepover for the Barbies, which would involve playing games with (castmates) Scott (Evans) and Ncuti (Gatwa).”
Emma added of the table tennis games: “I don’t play games usually, because I get so competitive and angry. But Scott and I were top of the game.”
The actress recently wrapped filming on a biopic of Emily Bronte and she admits the ‘Barbie’ movie was a nice change of theme following her dark portrayal of the author.
She added: “It’s great to do comedy, because Emily was a sad, dark drama. Barbie is light and funny and silly and American and pink.”
She was also thrilled to be working with ‘Lady Bird’ director Greta, gushing: “She’s everything I could have dreamed of. She’s so invested and precise, and so childishly delighted by what she’s doing. Scorsese said, ‘Never lose the amateur in you.’ I see Greta behind her monitor laughing, and she’ll reference something very niche and it will make total sense in that moment. Her mind is fizzing all the time. I love being around those kinds of people.”
The film’s star Margot previously opened up about the movie role in an interview with Vogue magazine, insisting the project is not what most people expect it to be. She explained: “It comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t’.”

Graham Norton is ‘not really friends’ with his chat show guests

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton is “not really friends” with his chat show guests.
The 59-year-old TV star has fronted ‘The Graham Norton Show’ on BBC One since 2007 and regular chats with some of the biggest names in showbusiness but explained that he has a large group of friends away from entertainment and that relationships in the industry are “very intense.”
He said: “You’d think that, but no. It’s not like I don’t like lots of the guests but I’m 59, I’ve got a bunch of friends. Also, when am I going to see them again? Next time they’re in town promoting a movie or something. In the entertainment industry, friendships are different.
They’re very intense.”
However, the TV star went on to explain that during the time his celebrity guests are on the set of his Friday night chat show, he “bonds” with them really fast and starts to believe that they are friends up until the moment the cameras are off.
He told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds colum: “So during that hour and a half they’re on the set and we’re talking. I think we’re friends because we’re both going through something extraordinary. There’s an audience watching this conversation, we’re hopefully entertaining them, so you bond super fast. Then the minute the show’s over, it’s gone.
Meanwhile, Graham has also provided commentary on ‘The Eurovision Song Contest’ – which saw the UK place second behind Ukraine back in May – since 2009 but following speculation that the annual competition will be held in Britain in 2023 due to the ongoing conflict in the war-torn country, the BAFTA winner admitted he is unsure whether he would like to take on main hosting duties.
He said: “I don’t know whether it’s going to happen or not but I’d be torn because I like the job I do. I think Terry Wogan did both the last time it was here. I think he did a bit of hosting and then he ran into the wings and bitched about the hosts. That would be my ideal scenario.”

Ralf Little almost died during a parachute jump

OHMYGOSSIP — Ralf Little almost died during a parachute jump.
The ‘Death in Paradise’ star recalled doing an almost fatal tandem jump – a 2,000 feet jump above the Eiger Mountain in the Alps, nicknamed ‘The Murder Wall’ – where he was unaware of the danger they were in.
While appearing on the BBC Two programme, ‘High Altitude’, the 42-year-old actor said: “We could have plummeted to our death, there was a couple of lines twisted.”
“I’m going, ‘What’s he doing? Is this normal?’ And then he’s doing it again. I was thinking, ‘This can’t be right?’ But that was the joy of ignorance is bliss. I didn’t know anything was wrong. I just thought he was enjoying himself.”
“I’d always wanted to skydive and I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie. So to be presented with an opportunity to do it was pretty special anyway.
“But also to do it right in between the mountains – there wasn’t a great deal of hesitation. I’d never even been up in a helicopter before.”
The actor – who shot to fame as a teenager by playing Antony on the classic sitcom ‘The Royle Family’ – described getting to the top as a “sensory overload”.
Ralf said: “It was a bit like sensory overload. Your body and your brain finds it so difficult to comprehend what you’re about to put it through.
“It was something a bit special – so far out of my comfort zone
“I’ll probably wake up in about four weeks’ time in the middle of the night, screaming.”
On his recent episode of ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, Ralf admitted to wishing he “got to know better” his World War Two hero grandad, Arthur, who was a vital part of the success at the Battle of Okinawa in April 1945.
He said: “That’s incomprehensible. Terrifying. He never talked about [what happened], I wonder if he went away from my gran and came back a different person after the war. But what an amazing story about my grandad.
“I had no idea he had such a tough life. He faced hardship a lot and he just took it, for the greater good. I wish I’d asked him about it. I wish I’d got to know him better. I guess I didn’t realise there was that much to talk about.”

Ex-Corrie star Beverley Callard hosting classes at local gym

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverley Callard is to host classes at her local gym.
The 65-year-old actress quit her long-running role as former Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald on ‘Coronation Street’ back in 2020 and is now set to launch a fitness venture for “strong feisty women” in Norfolk.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: “I just wanted to say hello, strong feisty women. I am absolutely so excited. Thank you so much for your questionnaires, there are lots of strong feisty women in this area which I’m thrilled about. I can’t wait to meet you all! I’m hoping to meet you all individually at some point for a little chat. Just to get to know each other a bit. Anyone who hasn’t filled a form in, please fill them in now because there are many ladies who want to join me for the class and I can’t wait! I’ll see you soon”
The ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’ actress – who starred in a string of exercise videos in the late 1980s and early 1990s and also hosted a fitness slot on GMTV – thanked her fans once again in the caption of the post as she encouraged her followers to get in touch.
She wrote: “Thank you to all of you who have been in touch already! Those of you who have emailed but not filled in the questionnaire yet, please send me them! If you’re interested in being one of my 25 strong women and part of my new fitness classes.. email me Beverleysresults@gmail.com.”(sic)
The soap legend – who is married to record studio owner Jon McEwan but has Rebecca, 47, and Joshua, 33, from previous relationships – used to be based in Manchester for filming but moved to Norfolk earlier this year following her departure from ‘Coronation Street.’
Back in April 2022, she said: “We are absolutely loving our new home and we wake up to this gorgeous view every day. You might have thought that I’ve been quiet (or maybe not!) but we have been very busy moving to Norfolk.”

Pete Doherty regrets turning down an EastEnders role

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Doherty regrets turning down a role on’ EastEnders.’
The former Libertines frontman – who recently took the stage at Glastonbury Festival – admitted to being “disappointed” he didn’t take up the chance to appear in the BBC One soap during the height of his fame for a guest spot.
The 43-year-old rocker wrote in his new memoir ‘A Likely Lad’ in an exclusive excerpt shared with the Mirror newspaper: “There are a few things that have fallen through over the years that I was a bit disappointed about – opportunities that came up that I didn’t take.
“I was going to get a part in ‘EastEnders’ at one point. It was around this time that the Libertines re-formed too.”
In the new book, Pete recalled the “embarrassing” time he tried to chat up Patsy Palmer – who starred as Albert Square resident Bianca Jackson on the show – due to her boyfriend lingering around.
He recalled: “I remember a Sky One show because I asked out Patsy but her boyfriend was stood right next to her, so it was a bit embarrassing.
“We also got thrown out of Top of the Pops. Someone in the crowd shouted crackhead and we dived in and started fighting with him. Luckily, we’d already done the run-through, so they used that as the actual televised bit.”
Pete was once supported with his substance abuse problems by the late ‘EastEnders’ icon June Brown – who died in 2022 after playing Dot Cotton since the show began in 1985 – who helped him find a “marvellous place” in Thailand, which he unfortunately only lasted a few days before relapsing after coming home to Margate.
She said: “I’m a huge Libertines fan, it would be a marvellous place for Pete to kick his addiction.”

Caleb Landry Jones: I don’t enjoy making big-budget movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Caleb Landry Jones doesn’t enjoy shooting big-budget movies.
The 32-year-old actor starred as Banshee in ‘X-Men: First Class’ in 2011 – but Caleb actually prefers to work on smaller projects.
Reflecting on his career choices, he shared: “It wasn’t necessarily deliberate. Maybe I didn’t work as well in that system, I don’t know.
“But I found great comfort in working in films that aren’t that size. Somehow you’ve got a bit more because of those limitations. Solving problems in ways that are hopefully unique to the piece.”
Caleb also admits that he’s never felt truly comfortable performing in front of an audience.
He told the Guardian newspaper: “Those lessons forced you to get on stage: either you don’t do it, or you do it. And if you do it, you do your best. Sometimes you beat yourself up afterwards because it didn’t go as good as the rehearsal did, or didn’t sound as good as you want it to be in your head.”
Caleb – whose other film credits include ‘Get Out’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ – admits acting has helped him to deal with his inner feelings.
Asked if it served as a “sort of dependency”, Caleb explained: “It was kind of a little bit when I first started doing it. Because it was the only place where you were kind of allowed to either scream or cry. A space where I could have feelings that I was bottling up.
“Then, the more I did it, the more it started to become other things as well. More about a craft. About interpretation, and what taking on a character meant for me.”

Nick Jonas set to star alongside Glen Powell in Foreign Relations

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Jonas has been cast alongside Glen Powell in ‘Foreign Relations’.
The 29-year-old actor will star in the upcoming buddy comedy film for Amazon Studios, Deadline reports.
Glen, 33 – who recently starred as Lieutenant Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – will appear alongside Nick in the Kat Coiro-directed project.
Kat previously helmed the romantic comedy-drama film ‘Marry Me’, which starred Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson.
She is also set to direct the upcoming ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ for Marvel Studios.
No plot details for ‘Foreign Relations’ have yet been released. But already, numerous studios and streaming services are vying to secure the rights to the film.
Meanwhile, Nick previously confessed to feeling under pressure in his acting work.
The singer-turned-actor is best-known for his chart-topping pop hits – but Nick is determined to prove his doubters wrong and to establish himself as a credible actor.
The ‘Jealous’ hitmaker – who is married to actress Priyanka Chopra – explained: “I do feel pressure, but I try to focus on the work and make sure that whatever I’m bringing to the table is the best that I can do.
“I have to continue to grow. The goal was just to push myself to find great projects and work with great creative people that help me to evolve and grow to be better as an actor.”
Nick also insisted he’s always been passionate about acting.
He said: “I’ve always loved acting. When I was just beginning as a little kid, I was doing Broadway shows and I got to do what I love the most both on one stage – acting and singing, so I was kind of spoiled.
“So to get to do that now is a real big honour. I’m the luckiest guy.”

Brian Dowling: I was so fearful to come out as gay because of my religion

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Dowling was so “fearful” to come out as gay.
The 44-year-old TV presenter – who was brought up as a Catholic in County Kildare, Ireland – told his family that he was gay just two days before appearing on ‘Big Brother’ back in 2001 but admitted he has “battled” with his sexuality because of his religion.
He said: “I was so fearful. I was brought up Catholic. I still say that I am Catholic, I don’t go to church that often and we sadly lost my mum in 2018 and I suppose the fact that she’s not here anymore has made me question my faith. When you’re a gay man – or woman – and you’re Irish, I think it is something you battle with, the whole religious Catholic thing. But I think it was brave of me to do it. It’s a sin and I’m going to hell but how amazing is hell going to be with all these amazing people?”
The telly star – who following his win on ‘Big Brother’ went on to front shows such as ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ and special episodes of ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ – has been married to dancer Arthur Gourounlian since 2015 but claimed that in the years since he found fame he has had a “love-hate” relationship with the gay community because of his demeanour.
Speaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast, he told former ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kate Thornton: “I have had a love-hate relationship with the gay community and the gay press for such a long time where I was criticised a lot from the gay community for being so effeminate for being so camp and loud back in the day. I’d go out and drinks would be thrown over me. It was very strange. And I’ve always said ‘This is me’. I’m not saying ‘Everyone who is gay like me’ but people were very, very opinionated.”

TOWIE’s James Argent launches nationwide tour of caravan parks

OHMYGOSSIP — James Argent is launching a nationwide tour of caravan parks.
The 34-year-old reality star has recently started up a new career as a singer since his time on ‘The Only Way is Essex’ and is now set to tour caravan parks up and down the country over the summer.
Speaking in a promo video, he said: “It’s James ‘Arg’ Argent, and this summer we are going to have it Arg. Can’t wait to see you all and have a night to remember!”
The tour will commence on Friday (01.07.22) at Sand le Mere caravan park near Hull and will move on to other Park Holiday resorts.
The news comes just days after Arg – who previously dated fellow ‘TOWIE’ alums Lydia Bright and Gemma Collins – revealed he bonded with a mystery woman he met in Mykonos following a wedding gig on the Greek island.
He said: “I did meet someone nice actually. I’ve met a woman in Mykonos. It wasn’t a holiday romance or anything like that. We exchanged numbers, We have been speaking, she’s not English, she lives abroad. Who knows [what will happen]. It’s exciting anyway.”
The TV star has also recently lost 14 stone after he underwent a gastric sleeve procedure when his weight reached 27 stone and admitted his only “regret” about going under the knife is that he didn’t do it sooner.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he said: “Initially, when you get the operation done, it’s a bit of a shock to the system. You go from binge-eating, and over-eating to all of a sudden you’re only on liquids and a minimal amount of food and it’s just
kind of getting your mind right. But as the weight drops down, you start feeling healthier and I promise you now it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. And if anyone says to me,
‘Have you got any regrets?’, the only regret is I didn’t get it sooner. It has worked for me and it wasn’t a quick fix. I struggled with my
weight for many, many years with lots of diets and for me, it has just
worked.”

AJ Odudu ‘found it tricky’ to get her start in telly as a black northern woman

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Odudu “found it tricky” to get her start in telly as a “black northern woman”.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant says it was “hard for people to get over” that she was all three things instead of just one and felt they were very taken aback.
The 34-year-old television presenter told Red magazine: “I found it tricky to navigate my way around a space that sometimes made me feel ‘other’.
“My accent was a big thing, but what was confusing was there were other regional accents – Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac were on BBC Sounds.
“It was more that I was black and northern, rather than just northern. It was hard for people to get over that. It was a lot being black, female, and northern all at once.
“It was tricky at times. I did doubt myself because I was essentially being told to not be me. But all you can do is lean on your support network.
“There are so many people who do see the good in you.”
AJ – who is set to host the revamp of ‘The Big Breakfast’ with comedian Mo Gilligan after they fronted a version of for Channel 4’s ‘Black to Front’ day – isn’t interested in “tokenism” and thinks there is much more work to be done to have equality in television.
She said: “I think bringing ‘The Big Breakfast’ back as a regular thing is one of the positives we took away from [‘Black to Front’].
“But there’s so much more work to be done. Change is going to take a long time. I don’t like tokenism, and I don’t think anyone should do just one thing, pat themselves on the back and think they’re done.
“We’re never going to reach perfection in this lifetime, but we should always be striving to make change.”

Matthew Morrison will be EastEnders’ first drag queen

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Eastenders’ has cast their first drag queen.
Newcomer Matthew Morrison feels “blessed” to have been hired to play Felix Baker, who performs as drag act Tara Misu in the long-running BBC One soap.
In a behind-the-scenes video posted to the show’s Instagram, the 30-year-old actor told veteran star Natalie Cassidy: “I am blessed to have the opportunity to step into the heels of the fierce Tara Misu as part of my role on EastEnders.
“It’s a privilege to represent the LGBTQIA+ community and to showcase the creative art of drag to both viewers at home and the residents of Walford.”
Felix will venture onto Albert Square along with brother Finlay (Ashley Byam) and dad Avery (Omar Lye-Fook), the long-lost brother of established character Mitch Baker – who doesn’t know his nephew is a drag queen – next month.
Matthew admitted to Natalie – who has played nurse Sonia Fowler on and off since 1993 – he had loved the soap for ages and particularly its groundbreaking LGBT storylines.
He said: “The whole arc with Christian and Syed was the one I was most focused on growing up.
“It’s important for people to see themselves reflected on screen. It’s almost like affirmation, if you can see someone like you then it’s OK.”
Matthew called his character’s alter-ego Tara “quite sassy”.
He said: “She’s quite sassy.
“She wants to play the Queen on The Crown but has never could so she has a very Queen-like accent.”
Matthew got some expert tips on how to be a drag queen from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ star Vinegar Strokes, who emphasised the importance of “confidence”.
She said: “First of all, I think it’s all about confidence, you know. I think drag is that kind of invisible superhero cloak.”

Valkyrie’s sexuality was a big topic of conversation, says Tessa Thompson

OHMYGOSSIP — Valkyrie’s sexuality was a “big topic of conversation” among the makers of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.
Tessa Thompson has reprised the role of Valkyrie in the Taika Waititi-directed Marvel movie, and she’s revealed that her character’s sexuality was a major point of discussion before and during the shoot.
Tessa, 38 – who is attracted to both men and women, but chooses not to label herself bisexual – shared: “We talked about it a lot, it was big topic of conversation. Because I think rightfully there’s this real want in audiences to see characters be very clearly queer or LGBTQIA inside these spaces. And I think it’s hugely important to have representation.
“And also, as humans, I think that we are not defined by our sexuality, and by who we love. And so sometimes I think to hang a narrative completely on that is a way of actually diminishing the humanity of the character. Because you don’t allow them to be anything else.”
Tessa admits it’s difficult to explore the issue in real depth in a movie like ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. However, she’s hopeful that it’ll happen one day.
She told Yahoo Entertainment: “It becomes the only storyline, particularly in a movie like this where you don’t, frankly, have a lot of room for storyline,.
“So there was a lot of conversation in terms of how to treat that with Valkyrie. And I feel really good, personally, about where we got to.
“I hope that she’s a character that fans continue to connect to, that we have a lot of time to explore her, in all of her humanity. But whether or not she finds love in this movie doesn’t mean she’s not still a fabulous queer character that is open to finding love when it makes sense.”

Elizabeth Olsen hasn’t seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Olsen still hasn’t watched ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
The 33-year-old actress stars as Scarlet Witch in the Marvel movie – but Elizabeth admits she hasn’t actually watched her own film.
During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, the actress explained: “I’m not one of those [actors who doesn’t watch her own movies]. I’m one of those people who likes to study something so I can figure out how to make it better.
“But I had a cold when we had the premiere and I didn’t want to sit through it. And so I asked them to send a copy so I could watch it, and it had my name on it and it had the time that I was watching it, and I didn’t want to watch it like that.”
Elizabeth stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams in the Sam Raimi-directed movie.
But the Hollywood star recently insisted she knows “nothing” about her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Asked about appearing in a solo film or in the Disney+ series ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’, she replied: “I would love to be a part of both of those. No one tells me anything, and I’m not even hiding a secret because I’m bad at that.”
Elizabeth has starred in a host of Marvel projects in recent years, including ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
But she’s insisted that Marvel hasn’t given her any insight into what the future holds.
She admitted: “I know nothing about my future.”
