Christian Bale was mocked over ‘serious’ Batman

OHMYGOSSIP — Christian Bale was mocked over the idea of playing a “serious” Batman.
The 48-year-old actor portrayed a gritty version of the Caped Crusader in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy but revealed how his approach to the character was derided at first.
Speaking to The Washington Post newspaper, Christian said: “I would (tell people) we’re going to sort of do Batman, but take him seriously. I had tons of people laugh at me and just say, ‘Well, that’s just not going to work at all’.
“So it’s wonderful to be a part of a trilogy that proved those people wrong. I’m not certain if it kick-started (the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but it certainly helped along the way.”
Bale has returned to the superhero genre as Gorr the God Butcher in the new Marvel blockbuster ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and says he is happy to play comic book characters if the films are of high quality.
He said: “I don’t have any goodbye and thank you, unless other people say to me, ‘Goodbye and thank you, please never revisit this again’, then I’ll take their word for it.
“But otherwise a good story is a good story. A good film is a good film. And a good director is a good director. And I’m open to any of those ideas.”
The star recently revealed that he would be open to making another Batman movie as long as Nolan returned to direct.
Christian explained: “I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look, let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’
“In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell’. And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Nia DaCosta to direct Hedda Gabler adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Nia DaCosta is set to write and direct an adaptation of ‘Hedda Gabler’.
The 32-year-old filmmaker enjoyed box office success with her horror movie ‘Candyman’ and will now present a fresh take on Henrik Ibsen’s famous play.
The film will be produced by Gabrielle Nadig – who worked with DaCosta on her debut feature ‘Little Woods’ – and Plan B.
‘Hedda Gabler’ follows the titular character as she navigates a house she does not want, a marriage that she feels trapped in and an ex-lover who has reappeared in her life.
The story has been adapted numerous times on stage and screen, including the 1975 film ‘Hedda’ – which earned Glenda Jackson a Best Actress Oscar nomination.
Nia has also been tapped to direct ‘The Marvels’ – a sequel to the 2019 film ‘Captain Marvel’ that will see Brie Larson reprise her role as the superhero.
The actress praised DaCosta’s work and told fans that they can expect an exciting ride with the movie.
Brie said: “I feel it’s like, I wish I could talk about. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honour it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future.
“And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers.”
Meanwhile, DaCosta is directing an adaptation of ‘The Water Dancer’.
She has been tapped to helm the big-screen take on Ta-Nehisi Coates’ best-selling novel.
The movie is backed by MGM and will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films production company.

Cheyanne Kerr compares Love Island situation to Millie Court and Liam Reardon’s

OHMYGOSSIP — Cheyanne Kerr has compared her ‘Love Island’ drama to that of last year’s winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon.
The contestant was left upset when Jacques O’Neill chose to stick with Paige Thorne rather than recouple with her on Thursday (07.07.22) after Casa Amor and Cheyanne made sure to spill the beans about their steamy antics to Paige before she left the villa.
Comparing it to the drama last year when Lillie Haynes confessed to Millie about her fling with Liam, Cheyanne said: “It’s a bittersweet feeling. I didn’t want to remain in there after I’d felt a connection with someone and he remained in his couple. I spent the majority of my time with Jacques. We shared a bed together and I know he said he wanted to get to know me more. We’d kissed.
“Then when it came to the recoupling he stuck with Paige. It was a bit like the Liam [Reardon] and Millie [Court] situation last year. I didn’t know what he was going to do until the last minute. I genuinely didn’t have a clue so that just shows how much we’d spoken and got along.
“I mentioned to Paige afterwards it wasn’t personal, I just wanted her to know what he’s like.”
However, Cheyanne admitted she wasn’t too disappointed as she was initially attracted to Andrew Le Page.
She said: “Not just Jacques. I did like Andrew as well. I thought he was quite good looking.
“When we were chatting there just didn’t seem like there was that vibe to bounce off each other, like with Jacques.”

Love Island star Gemma Owen’s ex says Luca Bish is ‘not her type’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ star Gemma Owen’s ex-boyfriend has claimed Luca Bish is not her type.
The daughter of footballer Michael Owen is coupled up with fishmonger Luca on the ITV2 dating show, but now her ex Neil Farrugia has weighed in on the romance, and he isn’t convinced it will work out.
He told new! magazine: “Don’t get me wrong, Luca seems like a very nice guy, but he’s just not Gemma’s type.
“If I had to predict who she’d end up with right at the beginning, I would never have imagined she’d chose Luca.”
The 27-year-old entrepreneur thinks Gemma is actually more suited to another ‘Love Island’ star, Davide Sanclimenti, who she has also been coupled up with on the show.
He added: “From the current Islanders, I would definitely say Davide is more her type … I wish Gemma all the best during her time on the show and I hope she finds the perfect man for her.”
Neil and Gemma dated for several months last year after meeting in holiday hotspot Dubai, but the pair called it quits in November as they struggled to keep their long-distance romance going.
He admits he enjoyed his time with Gemma and hasn’t ruled out a reconciliation if she fails to find love in the villa.
Neil added: “I believe Gemma and I had a lot of potential and I still think we could be a good match if reunited in the future. Who knows?”
When asked if he could potentially enter the show has a bombshell, Neil said: “If I did, I would definitely try my best to turn Gemma’s head back in my direction – and I think I could make that happen.
“Our relationship ended on really good terms, so we still have positive vibes between us.”

Mollie Salmon’s family issue apology after allergy comments

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ star Mollie Salmon’s family has issued an apology after the star said she finds people with allergies a turn off.
The 23-year-old make up artist from Southampton entered the ITV2 dating show’s villa last weekend as part of the show’s Casa Amor stage, but she sparked outrage when she claimed it was “really frustrating” to date someone with allergies.
Speaking prior to her arrival in the Mallorca villa, she said: “I actually dated a boy with loads of allergies. When you go to a restaurant and you can’t eat anything on the menu, and it’s really frustrating!”
Following the comments, Mollie’s family have taken to social media to apologise for “any upset” caused by the comments she had made on the show’s ‘Aftersun’ spin-off, and added that they were not “intended badly” because Molly suffers from a food allergy herself.
The statement read: “On behalf of Mollie we’d like to apologise for any upset caused by the allergy comment made. This was not said with any bad intentions and wasn’t said to purposely be offensive or upset anyone. Mollie herself suffers from an allergy to seafood.”
Charity Allergy UK had also taken to social media to to express their “disappointment” with ‘Love Island’ that the comments had been made in the first place.
The tweet read: “We’re disappointed with statements made by a @LoveIsland contestant in Sun Ep of AfterSun re food allergies. It highlights why we need better awareness around the reality of living with allergies. We urge speaking up about allergies yet such attitudes make it harder to do so.”(sic)

The Michelin-trained internet cooking sensation and the renowned London chef will join the brand-new 10-part series, which will air in 2023 on BBC Three.
TikTok star Poppy – who has 2.3 million followers on the site – said: “I’m so excited to be judging ‘Young MasterChef’ and getting to discover the amazing young cooking talent we have in the UK. Having worked my way up through the ranks of professional fine dining kitchens to now teaching millions of amateur cooks online, nurturing the next generation with ‘MasterChef’ feels like a perfect new role.
“I can’t wait to eat some incredible food along the way – and just hope I can stop after a few forkfuls of the amazing dishes I’m going to see!”
Kerth added: “I’m humbled to be joining such a highly esteemed team on ‘MasterChef’.
“Guiding the best upcoming foodies with some very cool cooking challenges is a huge opportunity. I’m buzzing with excitement to get started on what should be an incredible show.”
Poppy and Kerth will be tasked with presiding over the competition for up-and-coming food talent aged between 18 and 25, and the pair will be joined by foodie guests throughout the series.

Bertie Carvel ‘signs up for 2 more series of Dalgliesh’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bertie Carvel has signed up for two more series of ‘Dalgliesh’.
The 44-year-old actor stars as detective Adam Dalgliesh in the Channel 5 hit mystery drama series – which is based on the novels by PD James – and following a successful first outing in 2021, the show is reportedly set to return to screens for a further two seasons, in the hope that it will rival other dramas on ITV and the BBC.
A TV insider said: “‘Dalgliesh’ was a hit with audiences so it made total sense to build on that success. Channel 5 knows cop dramas are the in thing right now, and hope ‘Dalgliesh’ can be its version of ‘Inspector Morse’ or ‘A Touch Of Frost’.”
Bertie – who is best known to TV audiences for appearing as Simon Foster in ‘Doctor Foster’, and prior to that won an Olivier award for his portrayal of Miss Trunchbull in ‘Matilda the Musical’ – is said to be “delighted” to have committed to the role again.
The source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Bertie knows he’s onto a good thing playing the character and was delighted to sign the deal!”
While no further details regarding air times or filming have been announced, the second series will be an adaptation of novels ‘Death Of An Expert Witness’, ‘A Certain Justice’ and ‘The Murder Room’.
Channel 5 began to launch original drama series in 2019 with ‘Cold Call’ – which starred ex-‘Corrie’ actress Sally Lindsay as a woman who falls victim to a scam phone call – and more recently received acclaim for Sheridan Smith drama ‘The Teacher’ as well as ‘The Drowning’, which saw former ‘Waterloo Road’ actress Jill Halfpenny star as a businesswoman struggling to cope with the death of her son.

Caroline Quentin’s new farm show?

OHMYGOSSIP — Caroline Quentin has been approached about starring in her own farm show.
The ‘Men Behaving Badly’ star is said to have been in contact with TV producers about making a series about her rural activities at her Devon home with her cosmetic scientist husband, Sam Farmer, and their kids Emily and William.
The 61-year-old actress is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column as saying: “I grow all my own vegetables.
“I teach people how to grow and plant, harvest and prune. Mostly they use it as a meditative experience.
“A lot of people who can’t get out or suffer from anxiety find it restful, and we do live in the most beautiful part of the world in Devon. People seem to love to join me there – and they love our animals.
“It’s a very big part of my life and I’m even getting quite a lot of interest from TV companies. It’s my passion, this ‘The Good Life 2’!”
Caroline and her family used to rear animals – such as pigs and sheep – but were forced to downsize due to professional commitments.
Recently, the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant enthused about her role as Elizabeth ‘Wes’ Wesley in the new Sky Max drama, ‘The Lazarus Project’.
Caroline said: “Wes is the boss of the group – she’s the highest rank of the organisation that we meet on screen. It’s very clear that there are masses of rungs above her, but she has the power to press the button to turn the clock back. But we don’t really learn much about her privately – I think the less you know about her, the less vulnerable she is.
“I’ve never read a script as good as this. I got sent all of them, and I read them in one sitting, which was stupid – I was exhausted! I started late, and I just read into the night. I’ve never done anything as well-written, as funny, as moving, as contemporary, as relevant, as charming. They are the most exceptional pieces of work, individually and as a series.”

Natalie Portman delighted to see more female superheroes

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman is delighted to see more female superheroes appearing in Marvel movies.
The 41-year-old star plays Jane Foster/Mighty Thor in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and is pleased that the movie showcases female heroes such as Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and herself.
Speaking at the UK premiere of the film on Tuesday (05.07.22), Natalie said: “I was just so thrilled that we are at a point where there can be many of us in one movie and that we can have the teamwork between these women.
“It was a joy to work alongside Tessa who I got to work with on ‘Annihilation’ here in London and then we stayed friends after so it was pretty awesome to see my friend kick ass in the way she did.”
The new movie sees Natalie’s alter ego gaining a costume and powers similar to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as she becomes the Mighty Thor and Natalie relished the change.
Asked if she preferred her new role over the old Jane Foster, she said: “Definitely Mighty Thor Jane. It’s definitely more fun to get in on the action.”
Natalie loved working with director Taika Waititi and explained how he made every day on set such an enjoyable experience.
The ‘Star Wars’ actress said: “Taika is his own unique world and I’m so lucky that I got to live in it for a little bit. He makes it his mission to make everyone’s day amazing. He’s DJing on set, he’s got a microphone and is making everyone crack up.
“He always keeps everything spontaneous and reminds us all the time of how incredible our job is that we get to come to work and play.”

Taika Waititi feels Marvel blockbusters are an ‘escape’

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi believes that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) provides an “escape”.
The 46-year-old director has helmed the latest MCU blockbuster ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and thinks that the big studio movies are just as capable of capturing the imagination of audiences as smaller projects.
Speaking at the UK premiere of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder on Tuesday (05.07.22), Taika said: “We always need an escape, whether it be Marvel movies or ‘E.T.’ when I was a kid. There are always going to be studio films and they will always provide some sort of escape for us.
“Sometimes the escape needs to be smaller, independent films but other times we need to go to outer space and just enjoy an adventure.
“I think there is a place for all cinema and I’m thankful that I got to make a big, ridiculous, giant movie like this and people want to see it.”
Taika was also grateful to be back at a premiere as he feared for the film industry during the pandemic.
The ‘Jojo Rabbit’ filmmaker said: “It’s fantastic. We went through a whole two years where people weren’t sure if we would ever get back to the cinema again.
“To come out here with a lot of people and to be able to go into the cinema and see movies on the big screen is very special.”
Taika also suggested that he wouldn’t want to make a movie about a superhero from his native New Zealand.
He said: “I don’t know about a New Zealand superhero. We’ve got a lot of New Zealand gods that are pretty cool but we’ve seen them in ‘Moana’.”

Love Island’s Indiyah torn between Deji and Dami

OHMYGOSSIP — Indiyah Polack is torn between Deji Adeniyi and Dami Hope as a recoupling looms in ‘Love Island’.
The 23-year-old hotel waitress will confess to 25-year-old Deji that she would have to have “conversations” with senior microbiologist Dami, 26, who she is coupled up with, even if she brought the accounts manager back into the main villa.
In Wednesday night’s (06.07.22) episode, Deji says: “I came in here with an open mind. Naturally I’ve gravitated more towards you.
“Not even just attraction, it’s just on so many different levels.
“In the back of my mind I still can’t help but think about the situation that you’re in and obviously it does scare me because I do like you.”
Indiyah replies: “Obviously I have a connection with Dami, there’s not nothing there.
“But in the real world, I’m used to dating. It doesn’t invalidate my feelings for anything.
“Hypothetically speaking, if you were to come back to the villa with me I would have to have those conversations still with Dami.”
Deji agrees, saying: “I don’t want you to ever be in a situation where you feel pressured to do whatever. Do you know what I mean? The ball’s 100% in your court.”
Elsewhere, Jay Younger, 28, gives pal Davide Sanclimenti, 27, advice about his situation and his feelings for Ekin-Su Culculoglu, 27, who he is currently coupled up with.
Jay says: “Right now it’s quite obvious I think you still have a connection with Ekin, and you don’t just wanna throw that to the side out of spite, it’s not right man.”
Davide admits: “I make myself many problems … let’s see today how it goes.”
Jay says: “You should stay true to how you feel man, go for it.”
Later on Wednesday evening, show host Laura Whitmore will enter the villa to begin the recoupling process, as the Casa Amor and main villas prepare to unite.
‘Love Island’ continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Kate Garraway’s husband back in hospital

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway’s husband is back in hospital.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter confirmed today (06.07.22) that her significant other Derek Draper, 54, who has required round-the-clock care since he contracted coronavirus in March 2020, has returned to a medical facility, but insisted he is “OK”.
She told The Sun newspaper: “He’s OK, he’s back in hospital actually, so that’s a development. There we are.”
Kate, 55, admitted the couple’s two children, Darcey, 16, and 12-year-old Billy, have been “amazing” at supporting their dad.
Speaking at the TRIC Awards at London’s at Grosvenor House, she said: “They’ve been amazing – all the way through.”
Derek spent more than a year in hospital before returning home in April 2021, but he has continued to battle the after-effects of COVID after the virus ravaged his body.
Earlier this week, Kate thanked fans for their help after she was reunited with her husband’s medication after it was left in a taxi.
The TV presenter initially tweeted a post to Black Cab Lost Property, writing: “@BC_Lostproperty help!! Have just brought Derek home in a mobility black cab from hospital for a weekend visit have left a case with all his meds and kit in the front! (sic)”
She then added: “The driver recognised me but may not know it’s there – please look get in touch – need urgently!! (sic)
Kate was flooded with offers of help, including from one follower who said they knew the driver. They wrote in a message to Kate: “I know the driver Kate as he mentioned he’d taken you and your husband to me this evening. I’m trying to get in touch right now.”
The next day, the star returned to the social media site to confirm the lost medication had been found and returned to her.
She wrote: “It’s been returned! Thanks to all who reached out – the message got to driver lovely Robert who has returned it – phew and thanks to all. #happysundayeveryone.”
Kate recently admitted she hopes to take Derek to Buckingham Palace to pick up her MBE.
She said: “I do feel there’s room for celebration, though, and my hope is that if we do eventually have a ceremony, Derek will be further along in his recovery and we can go together. That would be wonderful.
“When you nearly lose someone, it certainly brings everything into sharp focus.
“In many ways, we’re still learning how we are as man and wife, as so much has changed.
“It’s the same for the children – they’re having to relearn the experience of being with their dad. And, of course, the biggest learning is for poor Derek.”

Love Island’s Jacques grows closer to Cheyanne

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Jacques O’Neill confesses he only wants to “get to know” Cheyanne Kerr in the villa.
In a teaser shown on last night’s (05.07.22) episode of the ITV2 dating show, the 23-year-old rugby player appeared to be leaning in to kiss the 23-year-old cabin crew worker, and in tonight’s (06.07.22) episode he completes his smooch with Cheyanne and reassures her he isn’t trying to get to know fellow new girl Mollie Salmon, 23.
When Cheyanne asks how his conversation with Mollie went, Jacques – who is coupled up with Paige Thorne, 24 – says: “How did my chat go?” He then puts his arm around her and says: “Aww are you getting cosy now I only want you?”
He then tells her he only sees Mollie as a good friend, adding to Cheyanne: “I told you I only wanna get to know you.”
After reassuring Cheyanne, Jacques goes on to give Andrew Le Page, 27, a pep talk as the real estate agent opens up about his feelings for Tasha Ghouri, 23, who he is coupled up with in the main villa.
Andrew says: “I literally opened up to her.”
Jacques says: “You don’t need to be afraid to show emotion and be upset though, do you know what I mean?”
Andrew replies: “Yeah I appreciate that man.”
Jacques then adds: “I know we’re supposed to be tough and that but sometimes it’s just good to get it out.
“Listen, anyone would be lucky to have you.”
Later on, the Islanders receive a text telling them that a recoupling looms and they need to decide whether to remain in their original couplings or change.
That evening, the Islanders in the main villa are told to gather around the firepit and show host Laura Whitmore enters to begin proceedings.
‘Love Island’ continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Strictly’s Shirley Ballas keen to join Dancing With The Stars

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Shirley Ballas is keen to join ‘Dancing With The Stars’.
The veteran performer has been a panelist on the BBC show since 2017 while her son Mark Ballas is a professional dancer on the American version – and Shirley has admitted she’d be up for for a stint on US TV.
Speaking to MailOnline, she said: “I never say never to anything that’s offered it’s just whether it gets offered or not.”
Shirley also explained she’s about to go visit her son in California where the show is made, adding: “My son lives in the US, in California where it’s filmed, I’m just about to go and visit him for the first time in three years this week so I feel jittery with excitement even though I’m not leaving until Saturday.”
The dance guru used to live in the US before moving back to her native UK and she admitted she can’t wait to make up for lost time with her son.
She explained: “I’m just taking two weeks off even if I sit across from him and just stare at his face, I just want to cuddle him. Just facetime, he’s definitely a facetime boy, a mummy’s boy …
“Because I lived there (in the US) for 11 years down the road from him, it’s only when I got the job (on ‘Strictly) and my mother got cancer that I decided to come back (to the UK), then not long after we went into the lockdown.
“So yeah I love being back (in the US) because I have all my friends, a lot of my work is over here, but it’s a heartstring tug not being over there.”

Christine McGuinness silences Paddy breakup rumour

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness has denied she and husband Paddy McGuinness have split.
The 34-year-old model – who has eight-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, and six-year-old daughter Felicity with the comedian – has silenced the rumour and admitted that although the pair have been through “difficult times” over the course of their 11-year marriage, they couldn’t be happier and she has “no complaints”.
Speaking to OK!, the mother-of-three said: “We’re really good, honestly.
“We have had difficult times but when I look back at our marriage and see where we are now, I think, ‘Wow, you know, we’ve done alright!’
“I first met Paddy 14 years ago and now we’ve got three gorgeous kids, we’ve been married for 11 years, we’re both busier than ever, but doing really great stuff. I couldn’t ask for anything more from him. I’m so grateful. I’m happy, I’ve got no complaints.”
The former ‘Real Housewives of Cheshire’ star went on to praise Paddy for being “all about the kids”.
She added: “He used to struggle to switch off from work when he came home and would be in his office writing or whatever.
“But now he can see the kids are getting older and how fast time flies. So when he’s at home, he makes it all about the kids. We’ve all grown as a family and it’s lovely.”
Meanwhile, Christine recently admitted she feels “devastated” for her younger self after her autism diagnosis.
The blonde beauty was diagnosed with the neurodevelopment disorder in January 2022, and while it has come as a “positive” thing, she wishes it had happened sooner in life.
Speaking in her documentary, ‘The Secret World of Autistic Women and Girls’, she said: “My diagnosis is a positive thing and a big relief. But it’s just the devastation I feel for myself as a child. I’m heartbroken for that Christine.”
All three of the couple’s kids were also diagnosed with autism.
