Geena Davis and Kyle MacLachlan join Pussy Island cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Geena Davis, Christian Slater and Kyle MacLachlan have joined the cast of ‘Pussy Island’.
Alia Shawkat, Haley Joel Osment, Liz Caribel Sierra, Levon Hawke, Trew Mullen, Saul Williams and Cris Costa have also landed roles in the movie that will mark Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut.
The stars join an ensemble cast that includes Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie and Simon Rex.
The film centres on Frida, a young and clever Los Angeles cocktail waitress who has her eyes set on philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). She skillfully moves her way into King’s inner circle and gets an invite to an intimate gathering on his private island.
Despite the epic setting and ever-flowing champagne, Frida senses that there is more to King’s island than meets the eye. She can’t quite put her finger on it, but it fills her with a sense of terror.
Zoe has penned the script with E.T. Feigenbaum and is also producing the movie with Bruce Cohen, Tiffany Persons and Tatum’s Free Association banner.
The 33-year-old actress explained that there were several meanings behind the title of the film, which is currently in production in Mexico.
Kravitz said: “The title means a lot of things. I started writing this story in 2017. As a woman in general, and a woman in this industry, I’ve experienced some pretty wild behaviour from the opposite sex.
“The title was kind of a joke at first, this place where people would go, bring women, party and hang out. The story evolved into something else, but the title wound up having multiple meanings. And it alludes to this time and place we claim not to be in anymore, in terms of sexual politics. People are evolving and changing but there is still a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths from past behaviour.
“It’s a nod to that, but it’s also playful, and a really playful film in a lot of ways. I like that the title leads with that and has some heavy meaning beneath it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Victor Meldrew’s “I don’t believe it” line is the UK’s most-used catchphrase.
The miserable pensioner was played by Richard Wilson in the classic BBC sitcom ‘One Foot in the Grave’, and a new study has determined that the character’s famous quote is still used by British people more than 30 years after it was first uttered.
Michelle Wilding-Baker – a spokesperson for Freesat which commissioned the study – said: “TV has a huge influence on our lives and what at first seems like a fairly basic line can very quickly become part of everyday language. It’s great to see that UK shows have done well.”
The rest of the top 10 was made up by other famous phrases such as “Computer says no” – which was used by David Walliams as hapless receptionist Carol Beer on sketch show ‘Little Britain’ – as well as Del Boy’s “Lovely jubbly” from ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and “Am I bovvered?”, which was famously uttered by rebellious teenager Lauren Cooper on ‘The Catherine Tate Show.’
Michelle added: “Television is a huge part of our culture and that trend looks set to continue so this is something that is only going to have an increasing influence on us.”
The report also found that 80% of adults use quotes from television shows in their daily conversations and 76% of them even use catchphrases from shows they have never even seen.

TOP TEN
1. “I don’t believe it” (Richard Wilson as Victor Meldrew in ‘One Foot In The Grave’)
2. “Computer says no” ( David Walliams as Carol Beer in ‘Little Britain’)

Simon Day thinks TV comedy is struggling without more ‘working class sitcoms’

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Day thinks TV comedy is dying because of a lack of “working class sitcoms”.
The ‘Fast Show’ star – who is known for playing character like Dave Angel on the classic sketch show – insisted there needs to be better representation and variety from comedy programmes across television and radio.
He’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “There’s not nearly as much stuff as there used to be on telly or as much good stuff on the radio or TV from working-class writers.
“You don’t get many working-class sitcoms anymore.”
The 60-year-old star pointed to the likes of ‘Only Fools And Horses’, ‘Steptoe and Son’ and more iconic sitcoms, and suggested their spirit is missing from contemporary TV schedules.
He added: “I just grew up at the right time with ‘Morecambe and Wise’, and those incredible sitcoms ‘Steptoe And Son’, ‘Likely Lads’, ‘Porridge’, ‘Only Fools And Horses’, ‘Till Death Do Us Part’.
“They were masterpieces and they were all working class stories, incredibly well acted, incredibly scripted and very believable.”
His comments come after ‘Only Fools’ legend Sir David Jason – who played Del Boy – encouraged TV bosses to be more patient in the hunt for the next classic comedy, and to give new shows time to grow and develop before getting cancelled.
He said: “It was not greeted well. With comedy you have to give it time to breathe, so the audience can learn about the characters.
“We got another series and even given the chance to keep improving. They don’t want to do that these days, they just want the audience figures.”
And Patrick Murray – who played Mickey Pearce in the show – suggested any potential revival would be watered down.
He claimed: “It would be lovely to do another one but I do worry we would be constrained because we can’t take the mickey out of each other.
“Rodney was a plonker, but nowadays people would find calling each other ‘plonkers’ offensive.
“The woke thing has got a bit ridiculous. People with nothing better to do will write in saying they’ve been insulted.”

Kate Garraway ‘ruined TRIC Awards outfit with her bottom’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway ‘”ruined” her TRIC Awards outfit “with her bottom”.
The 55-year-old TV star was at the annual ceremony in London on Wednesday (06.07.22) to collect the Multi-Channel News gong for ‘Good Morning Britain’ with co-host Susanna Reid, and they each suffered an awkward wardrobe malfunction just as they were about to go on stage.
During Thursday’s episode (07.07.22) of the ITV breakfast show, Kate referencing the white sequinned dress worn by her colleague Charlotte Hawkins and said: “I’m not going to speak for you, but I can’t pull off a dress like Charlotte, but the dress tried to take itself off of me.
“Susanna was about to go on stage. The button came off as she was about to make a speech when we win, and then the back of my trousers split wide open!”
Kate’s wardrobe team tried to rectify the mishap with her hot pink ensemble and co-host Ben Shephard questioned whether the outfit was even made for her in the first place.
He asked: “Was it actually for you or was it for someone else?”
The former ‘GMTV’ presenter went on to clarify that the dress was in fact intended for her and she had simply “ruined it ” with her behind.
She said: “It was for me! I loved it, I’ve just ruined it… with my bottom!”

Ashley Walters ‘faked’ Ackley Bridge scenes after dogs wreaked havoc on set

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Ackley Bridge’ director Ashley Walters had to use fake shots after dogs caused chaos on set.
The fifth season of the West Yorkshire-based school drama series is set to return to Channel 4 on Monday (11.07.22), and the ‘Top Boy’ actor – who serves as series director -has opened up on the difficulties he faced after trying to incorporate some dogs into the show to act as pet pooches for pupil Kyle Dobson (Adam Little).
However, the badly behaved mutts wreaked so much havoc on set that he had to resort to filming trickery in order to shoot a few scenes.
Ashley, 40, told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV coolumn:“I had done pretty much everything expect working with dogs. That was a tough one. I’m a dog lover but I didn’t really love dogs by the end of the shoot.
“No matter how well trained they are they are a law unto themselves. The dog we had playing Kyle’s dog, Tyson, didn’t want to do anything when the cameras turned over.”
Ashley went on to reveal his cunning methods when shooting the scenes which involved manipulating the edits.
He said: “I had to work out some real cunning ways to shoot him. So a lot of the times you see the dog in a scene he hasn’t been shot with any of the actors. I’ve shot him independently and just spend loads of times trying to get the right reactions from him and then cut them together in the edit, which I didn’t want to do.
“But in order to keep the actors energised and get their best takes and best performances out of them I had to do it that way.
“If I get another script as a director and there’s loads of scenes with dogs or cats, I might have to think about it, but we got there in the end.”
Meanwhile, ‘Casualty’ star Sunetra Sarker, who plays student support officer Kaneez Paracha on the show, shared her own fear of dogs and admitted she’d much rather work with children than with pets.
She said: “I’m so scared of animals. I don’t have that ease that everybody seems to have around cats and dogs. I think it’s also because I’m such a chatterbox but dogs and cats can’t talk to me so I don’t spend time enjoying their company.”

Jordan Peele wants regular collaborations with Daniel Kaluuya

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Peele hopes to form a deep creative bond with Daniel Kaluuya.
The duo worked together on Peele’s acclaimed directorial debut ‘Get Out’ – with Daniel nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance – and are set to reunite on his new sci-fi horror ‘Nope’.
Jordan explained that he is aiming to form a similar bond to that between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro – who have worked together on projects including ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Cape Fear’ and ‘The Irishman’.
The filmmaker told Empire magazine: “It’s so funny but by the point I was in the middle of (shooting) ‘Get Out’, that’s what I was telling him. I was like, ‘You’re my De Niro, man. You’re my De Niro’.
“I was like, ‘I need you to be in the future ones too, man!’ You could just tell what we had in him as a performer, from the very beginning.”
Jordan explained that he has a close bond with Daniel as they jumped into the horror genre together in ‘Get Out’.
He said: “We do have a bond.
“The first big movie he was a lead in, and my directorial debut, was ‘Get Out’. And we bonded because we went through that together.
“In the beginning of that, it feels like two people who have faith in each other, then by the end, it all works. So I just couldn’t wait to further that relationship and explore a completely new character with Daniel.”
Jordan has revealed that ‘Nope’ will centre around UFO activity and will explore the human race’s “addiction to spectacle”.
He said: “I started off wanting to make a film that would put an audience in the immersive experience of being in the presence of a UFO.
“As I started writing the script, I started to dig into the nature of spectacle, our addiction to spectacle, and the insidious nature of attention. So that’s what it’s about.”

Michael Mann hopes to adapt Heat sequel novel for the cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Mann wants to make ‘Heat 2’ for the big screen.
The 79-year-old filmmaker helmed the 1995 crime epic and has written a sequel that will be published as a novel later this summer – which he is planning to adapt into a movie.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Michael said: “It’s totally planned to be a movie. Is it a modest movie? No. Is it a very expensive series? No. It’s going to be one large movie.”
Mann did reveal that Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer would be unable to reprise their roles as Neil McCauley and Chris Shiherlis respectively as the movie will follow a sequel-prequel structure and will be set before the events of the original.
The director said: “I love those guys, but they’d have to be six years younger than they were in ‘Heat’.
Michael is confident that the sequel would be successful as the original movie remains popular more than 25 years since it was released.
He explained: “It’s sustained in culture. It’s known. I could delude myself into thinking that the whole world is familiar with it, but when you check out its prominence in home vid for over 20 years, this thing really has legs.
“People are still watching it, people are still talking about it. It’s a brand. It’s kind of a ‘Heat’ universe, in a way. And that certainly justifies a very large ambitious movie.”
Mann also revealed that he has decided to release the novel first so fans can “deep-dive” into the story.
The ‘Collateral’ filmmaker said: “The ability to which you can deep-dive into the internal world is fascinating, and you can do that best in a novel.
“I try to evoke that experience in the films I make, to locate the audience within the internal world of a character. The novel form allows me an even greater arena.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore warns the ‘Love Island’ boys about the “big decision” they need to make after Casa Amor.
The side villa has officially closed its doors for 2022 and the Islanders are now facing a dramatic recoupling as they all look to choose between their partners or their new flings.
In tonight’s episode (07.07.22), the main villa boys find themselves sat around the firepit as host Laura Whitmore explains how the recoupling will work with the new girls all stood up.
She says: “As you all know, tonight there will be a recoupling. Boys – each of you have a big decision to make.
“So I’m gonna ask you one by one if you want to stick with your partner who has been away in Casa Amor for the past few days, or whether you want to recouple with one of these gorgeous girls standing in front of you.”
Of course, the girls who have been away in Casa Amor have their own decision to make, and they could decide to stay loyal or pair up with “someone new”.
Laura adds: “Now remember, the girls in Casa Amor have also been given the choice of whether to stick with you or couple up with someone new.
“So boys, it’s time to make your decisions and let’s find out what the girls have decided to do…”
The 37-year-old presenter starts with Jay Younger, asking him to stand up and reveal whether he wants to stay in his current couple with Danica Taylor or recouple with one of the new girls.
One by one, the boys are asked to reveal their decision, before finding out if their partner in Casa Amor has chosen to stick with them or more on.
Once everyone has revealed their pick, the big questions are which couples remain, and who is left single.

The 23-year-old rugby player chose Paige during the recoupling episode, even though he recently made a move on Cheyanne Kerr – and after a row with Paige, he even suggested that he could quit the show.
During a chat with Paige, Jacques told her: “One night we had a good chat and we kissed … after that I got in bed and we had another a kiss.
“If you can’t accept that then I understand, if that takes a few days or a few weeks…”
However, Paige was unimpressed with Jacques’ explanation of what happened.
She replied: “You can get to know people without kissing them – I would never do that to someone I cared about.”
Paige insisted she remained loyal to Jaques in Casa Amour.
The sportsman then tried to reassure Paige that he wanted to be with her, rather than Cheyanne.
He explained: “I wanted to see if something could be better … but it wasn’t.”
Then, in a preview of the next episode, Jacques suggested he could even leave the villa.

Andrew said: “What a shock horror.”
And in response, Tasha explained: “It’s not an easy situation but I had to stay true to myself.”
Andrew then slammed the blonde beauty, likening her to “Pinocchio”.
He said: “She’s fake mate, and to be honest, good luck to you – she tells more lies than Pinocchio.”

Steven Yeun to co-star with Robert Pattinson in untitled Bong Joon Ho movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Yeun is set to co-star with Robert Pattinson in Bong Joon Ho’s next movie.
According to Deadline, the 38-year-old actor will join forces with the 36-year-old ‘Batman’ star for the Oscar-winning director’s follow-up to the acclaimed ‘Parasite’.
The untitled movie is based on the novel ‘Mickey7’ by Edward Ashton and Bong will write, direct and produce for his production company Offscreen.
While the film will be inspired by the novel, insiders say that Bong’s past experience with adaptations could mean that his version may be slightly different from the novel’s.
The story follows Mickey7 – a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonise the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there is a mission that is too dangerous – even suicidal – the crew turns to Mickey.
After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.
Pattinson is expected to play the protagonist, but no other details have been revealed.
Steven and Robert will join Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo and Naomi Ackie in the movie.
The film will be a reunion for Yeun and Bong, who previously worked together on Netflix’s drama ‘Okja’ in 2017.
Yeun has previously appeared in ‘The Walking Dead’, and ‘Burning,’ and his upcoming projects include Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’ and Netflix comedy ‘Beef’ with Ali Wong.

Peppa Pig fan Quentin Tarantino

OHMYGOSSIP — Quentin Tarantino is a huge fan of ‘Peppa Pig’.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ director revealed he often watches the cartoon with his two-year-old son Leo, calling it “the greatest British import of our decade”.
Speaking to ‘Empire’ magazine, Quentin, 59, said: “I actually do like ‘Peppa Pig’. I watch it a lot. I’ll say it — ‘Peppa Pig’ is the greatest British import of this decade.”
The children’s cartoon centres on Peppa, her brother George and their parents, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig, and was first broadcast in the UK in 2004.
Meanwhile, Quentin and his wife Daniella Pick, 38, recently welcomed their second child together, a daughter whose name has yet to be revealed.
They told People magazine in a statement: “Daniella and Quentin Tarantino are happy to announce that Daniella gave birth to their baby girl on July 2, 2022, a little sister to Leo, their first child.”
The couple confirmed in February they were expecting another baby.
Quentin and Daniella tied the knot at their home in Beverly Hills, California back in 2018, although they have been living in Tel Aviv, Israel for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ‘Kill Bill’ filmmaker – who has since made trips back to Los Angeles – previously explained how COVID-19 altered their plans.

The 41-year-old actor will star in and direct the upcoming mystery-comedy, and the ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ star, 38, joins an already stellar cast, including Hollywood legends Danny DeVito, 77, and Annette Bening, 64, who will play neighbours Jack and Diane.

The synopsis is as follows: “‘Poolman’ will centre on Darren Barrenman (Pine), a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny Los Angeles and crashing city council meetings with his neighbours Jack and Diane (DeVito, Bening).

Meanwhile, the ‘Outlaw King’ star previously joked he’s the “underdog” when it comes to the debate over who is the best Hollywood Chris.
The movie star is part of a long-standing debate to decide who is the best Chris in Hollywood, which arose because of the high number of famous actors who share the moniker, including Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth.
And he quipped that he needs to either “change [his] name or really just step it up” to prevent himself from slipping down the ranks.
He said: “I feel like I’m the underdog right now so I’ll take all the support I can get. Those damn Chrises man, I just, it’s either change my name or really just step it up.”

Ainsley Harriott slams Chelsea Flower Show after sister nearly drowned

OHMYGOSSIP — Ainsley Harriott is considering legal action against the Chelsea Flower Show after his sister fell into a pond last month.
The TV chef was hailed a hero after he saved his sister Jacqueline from drowning but he believes the incident could have been avoided if there were more precautions taken from organisers.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Eden Confidential column, he said: “The Health and Safety was not particularly great. They should have roped it [the show pond] off. It was about 6ft deep — quite a drop once you hit the water.”
An RHS spokesman said: “We take Health and Safety very seriously. Throughout the remainder of the show we made the decision to close off the garden to visitors.”
Ainsley, 65, saw his sibling tumble into the water feature during the first day of the annual event and he rushed to help pull her from the artfully decorated pond.
A source previously told The Sun: “The garden was packed with lots of people and I think the woman must have fallen into the pond or tripped over and ended up in the water.
“I think she nearly drowned. She was pulled out by Ainsley Harriott and some other celebrities before they laid her down on the floor. She was coughing up lots of water.”
Fellow TV star Nick Knowles was also present at the time of the accident and was seen standing nearby as Ainsley tended to Jacqueline while she was lying on the floor.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene and the former ‘Ready Steady Cook’ presenter later posted a message online thanking everyone at the flower show for helping.
He tweeted: “Just a big thank you to everyone who helped my sister when she had a fall at the Chelsea Flower Show this morning. She’s doing fine and all is well.”
