Miles Teller teases Top Gun: Maverick sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Miles Teller and Tom Cruise have been discussing a ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ sequel.
The 35-year-old actor joined forces with Tom, 60, for a follow-up to Tom’s 1986 movie this year and Miles admitted he would love to make another.
He told ET: “That would be great, but that’s all up to TC. It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see.
“For him to share ‘Top Gun’ with me and a lot of these other young actors it’s just been such a wild ride, and it’s still going.”
In the sequel, Tom reprises his role of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell from the original, while Miles plays Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, the son of Anthony Edwards’ character ‘Goose’ from the first movie.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ also stars Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Monica Barbaro.
And ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director Joseph Kosinski hasn’t ruled out a new movie.
He previously said: “It’s all about the story for Tom, and if we can figure out a way to tell what Maverick’s up to next, who knows.”

Natalie Portman hails Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman loved working with Taika Waititi on ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.
The Oscar-winning actress has reprised the role of Jane Foster for the new Marvel movie, and Natalie has revealed that she relished working with the 46-year-old director.
Natalie, 41, told HeyUGuys: “Taika is so incredible and he really is, like, his own world. I’ve never had an experience with anyone else like him.
“He demands spontaneity all the time and he constantly reminds us what … I mean, not by saying it outright, but what an incredibly lucky, playful job we have. You know, he really makes it his aim everyday to make everyone’s experience as amazing as possible.”
Earlier this month, Chris Hemsworth hailed Taika for helping to transform the ‘Thor’ franchise.
The Hollywood star suggested that Taika has made Thor more humorous and also more emotionally vulnerable.
Chris – who plays the iconic superhero in the Marvel films – said: “I definitely think from ‘Ragnarok’ onwards, his sense of humour made it all the more relatable and there was a greater sense of fun and enjoyment there to be had.
“I think the more vulnerable he became too over times and the more complex – as far as he was susceptible to emotional trauma, or emotional complications – his mental fitness wasn’t always at a ten … I think people kind of appreciated that.”
Chris also observed that Thor is a constantly evolving character.
The actor explained: “Where we started in the first film to now, there’s been many versions of the character and so I’ve always hoped … and I think there is something unique about each time we see him in a film, he has changed. There’s been something sort of … unexpected to the character.”

Declan Donnelly’s brother reportedly died from a brain bleed

OHMYGOSSIP — Declan Donnelly’s brother reportedly died from a brain bleed.
The death of Father Dermott Donnelly, 55, was confirmed on Friday (08.07.22) by the Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle and a close friend has revealed that it is suspected a brain bleed was the cause of death.
Father Peter Kyi Maung, who served with Dermott at St Joseph’s Church in Stanley, Co. Durham, told the Mirror: “He was hardly breathing in the bed, it was so sad.
“They think he had bleeding on the brain. Declan had come to be with him and their mum was there as well, I saw her at the hospital and it was so hard for her, a mother seeing her dying son.
“When she hugged me, I knew how much she was suffering.”
Dermott, who was ordained 30 years ago – was believed to have been carrying out community work when he complained about a headache and later collapsed.
He was rushed to North Durham hospital and Declan travelled from London to be with him.
However, his death was announced in a statement from the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle on Friday.
The statement said: “It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Fr Dermott Donnelly, who died peacefully this afternoon in hospital.
“This has come as a great shock to all of us. Please pray for the repose of his soul and keep his family, especially his mother, in your prayers at this difficult time.”
A spokesman for TV star Declan said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of Fr Dermott Donnelly who died peacefully this afternoon in hospital surrounded by his family and close friends.
“We ask for the utmost privacy for the Donnelly family at this difficult time.”

Shane Richie’s EastEnders return

OHMYGOSSIP — Shane Richie is set to reprise his role as Alfie Moon in ‘EastEnders’.
The 58-year-old actor’s alter-ego first joined the soap in 2002 and made his last appearance in Walford in 2019 and Shane can’t wait to return to the soap.
He said: “It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be asked back to my TV home of Albert Square.
“I’m looking forward to catching up with some old castmates and meeting some new ones.
“The new executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, has been instrumental in wanting to bring Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can’t wait.”
Chris added: “Shane Richie created one of the most iconic, loveable and most memorable characters in soap, and to welcome him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure.
“A lot’s happened since Alfie’s been away from the Square, but wherever his floral shirts go you can expect fun, frolics and, of course, the odd porky-pie. We’re over the moon to have him home.”
And Shane’s return is set to be good news for co-star Jessie Wallace, as Alfie’s on/off relationship with Jessie’s Kat Slater is one of ‘EastEnders’ most iconic partnerships.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It secures the future of Jessie as Kat, because together they deliver one of EastEnders most captivating love stories.
“Having them on the cast is seen as a dynamite combination that might get more diehard fans tuning in again.
“Losing Jessie would have been a disaster for producers who are pinning a lot on new storylines they’re going to be at the centre of.”
Jessie recently received a conditional caution after she was arrested last month on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and drunk and disorderly conduct, and the show’s producers told her such behaviour is “unacceptable”.
Jessie was released without charge after accepting the caution and her role on the show is safe.

Kieron L. Dyer ‘doesn’t know’ what the future holds with Marvel

OHMYGOSSIP — Kieron L. Dyer has “no idea” what the future holds for him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actor stars as Axl in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, but Kieron insists he doesn’t know when or where he might appear next.
Asked about the prospect of appearing in a “young Avengers film”, he told HeyUGuys: “I have no idea – Marvel are very … strategic in the way they work, so we’ll see.”
Kieron stars in the latest Marvel movie alongside Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Christian Bale.
And although Christian has a reputation for being intense on set, Kieron relished the experience of working with him.
He said: “Christian Bale himself is an incredible person and he’s not … he’s not scary at all!”
Meanwhile, Christian recently revealed that he’s set to take an extended break from Hollywood.
The Oscar-winning actor explained that he intends to take a break after shooting back-to-back movies.
Christian – who stars in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and the David O. Russell-directed ‘Amsterdam’ – shared: “I usually need quite a lot of time in between because I can’t spin on a dime. I’m very slow. But the way that things worked out (because of the COVID-19 pandemic), I had to go straight from David’s film to Taika’s. It was like boom, boom. Straight to the other.”
Christian is now keen to take a step back and enjoy some time away from the spotlight.
The movie star – who is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood – explained: “I worked way more than anybody wanted me to, and I think I will disappear for a while now.”

Tom Cruise granted permission to film inside Westminster Abbey

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise has been granted permission to film inside Westminster Abbey in London for ‘Mission: Impossible 8’.
The 60-year-old actor sought the extremely rare permission to shoot scenes for the action movie the religious landmark and was thrilled when it was granted.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Tom is really on one at the moment in terms of going bigger and better. There are literally no compromises.
“Nothing but the biggest and the best will do.
“So when he wanted to film inside a church for the new ‘Mission’ film, it had to be Westminster Abbey. They turn down almost every request, so it’s an incredible nod to Tom and to the production team to say yes.
“It will make an extraordinary filming location and sets the tone for just how big this film is going to be. The budget is enormous, of course, but the ambitions are even bigger.”
‘Mission: Impossible 7’ was hit with a number of delays due to the COVID 19 pandemic so Tom was determined to make a splash with ‘Mission 8’.
The source added: “The whole crew, Tom and Chris McQuarrie the director, are raring to go. They had so many setbacks on the last film that they just want this one to break the mould and the success of ‘Top Gun 2’ has really kicked-started Tom.”

Michael Owen for Love Island?

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Owen is set to appear on ‘Love Island’.
The former footballer, 42, is being lined up to fly out to the villa in Mallorca for the ‘Meet The Parents’ episode, in order to see his daughter Gemma and get to know her partner Luca Bish.
Michael will be free to fly out as his employer, BT Sport, said there is no football fixtures on the week at the end of July when shooting will take place.
A source told The Sun: “The end of July looks to be a golden opportunity for Michael to see Gemma.
“He’s notoriously private and anything could change between now and finals week but, all things considered, the odds on him taking part are better than ever.”
Meanwhile, Gemma’s ex-boyfriend Neil Farrugia has claimed Luca is not her type.
He told new! magazine: “Don’t get me wrong, Luca seems like a very nice guy, but he’s just not Gemma’s type.
“If I had to predict who she’d end up with right at the beginning, I would never have imagined she’d chose Luca.”
The entrepreneur thinks Gemma is actually more suited to another ‘Love Island’ star, Davide Sanclimenti, who she has also been coupled up with on the show.
He added: “From the current Islanders, I would definitely say Davide is more her type … I wish Gemma all the best during her time on the show and I hope she finds the perfect man for her.”
Neil and Gemma dated for several months last year after meeting in holiday hotspot Dubai, but the pair called it quits in November as they struggled to keep their long-distance romance going.

Kym Marsh in talks for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is in talks to appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star has been “repeatedly” approached by producers to take part in the show over the years but it was never the “right time” for her compete, but show bosses are hopeful that this year she will say yes to their offer.
A source told the Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Kym has been repeatedly approached by Strictly over the years, but it has never been the right time for her to say yes.
“Conversations are ongoing and she is considering if she wants to go ahead. Meanwhile the BBC are doing everything they can to persuade her.”
And Kym isn’t the only name in the frame for the new series as former England and Arsenal defender Tony Adams is said to be in advanced talks to appear on the show.
An insider said: “This is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Strictly. They are thrilled to have brought a footballing legend of Tony’s stature to the table.
“And they are pulling out all the stops to sign Kym as well. She has been a target for them for years, and while it is not a done deal, they are very hopeful.
“She has her offer and is considering her options.”
The 55-year-old sportsman – who famously dropped Steve Morrow during their celebrations at the 1993 League Cup Final, breaking his pal’s arm – is looking forward to the “challenge” of ‘Strictly’, and hopes to win viewers over with his sense of humour.
A source said: “Tony is a really good sport and has a great sense of humour, which people will get to see for themselves on the ‘Strictly’ dance floor.
“He is also not afraid of a challenge and will get really stuck in.
“Tony is really excited about ‘Strictly’. He’s a better mover than people think. He really looks after himself, far more than most 50-somethings.
“So he might well spring a few surprises.
“His future dance partners might want to be a bit wary when it comes to lifts though — he does have a bit of form for letting go when it counts.”

Channel 5 to revive X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The X Factor’ is to be revived by Channel 5.
Simon Cowell is reportedly struck a deal with the network to bring back the singing competition – which ran for 15 series and two spin-offs on ITV from 2004 to 2019 – after taking “lots of meetings” with a number of different TV channels.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “As soon as ‘X Factor’ was up for grabs, there was interest from a number of the networks.
“’X Factor’ is one of the most iconic shows in TV history, so it’s no surprise lots of channels were keen. The production company had their pick.
“After a lot of meetings, execs decided to go with Channel 5.”
Channel 5 executives are said to be “thrilled” to have landed the show, which is likely to begin production later this year and return to TV in 2023.
A source said: “There’s a good chance it will become Channel 5’s most-watched show.”
Producers are planning to overhaul the format and give the show a “fresh start”.
An insider added: “This is the start of a new chapter for ‘X Factor’. Moving to a new channel gives the creative team a chance to completely revamp the format and do something different.”
It was previously claimed Simon plans to strip ‘The X Factor’ back to basics in the hope of trying to “recapture the magic” of when it first aired.
The source explained last month: “It has been decided that the time is right to bring X Factor back. It’s really exciting. Everyone who will be working on the new series can’t wait to get started.
“Producers want to recapture the magic the show had when it was first on TV.
“The focus will all be on the competition element of the show, rather than the razzle dazzle.”

Taika Waititi hates director’s cuts

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi thinks director’s cuts of movies “suck”.
The ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ filmmaker suggested there won’t be a special extended version of his Marvel movie because he thinks directors need to be more “controlled” and make their edits tighter.
He told NME magazine: “Director’s cuts are not good,. I’ve been thinking about director’s cuts. I watch director’s cuts of a lot of other directors. They suck.
“Director’s cuts are not good. Directors need to be controlled sometimes, and if I was to say, ‘Ah, you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good, at four and a half hours. There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there, you don’t even have to pause it.”
The 46-year-old director insisted deleted scenes are left on the cutting room floor for a reason.
He said: “There might be a couple of deleted scenes, but as I always say, a scene is deleted because it’s not good enough to be in the film.
“I think the deleted scenes section on the DVD, not that they use them anymore, should just be a list of the scenes and no links so you can’t click on them!”
But in a separate interview, Taika admitted he had dropped some scenes that he quite liked from ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ because he knew they added nothing to the story.
He told Collider: “It was about four hours. And a lot of time on set … We were talking about this before, like when, in the moment, you’re like, ‘This is the greatest thing that anyone’s ever filmed in the history of filming things. ’
“And you get into the edit. You’re like, ‘I still kind of like it.’ And then, after about six months of it being in the movie, you realize it was fun on the day, but it doesn’t have any business being in the movie… Really, about five times, it just gives up on the story and for like 10, 15 minutes of just telling jokes… It’s more of an assembly [than a film].”

Marvel stars need to be willing to laugh at themselves, says Tessa Thompson

OHMYGOSSIP — Tessa Thompson thinks Marvel stars can’t be afraid to “make a fool out of [themselves]”.
The 38-year-old actress stars as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Tessa believes she can’t take herself too seriously in the role.
The Hollywood star – who has reprised the role for the Taika Waititi-directed ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ – told IGN: “There’s almost a lack of … I don’t know how to describe it … there’s almost a lack of dignity in making these movies. You have to really not be afraid to make a fool out of yourself.
“I think that is something that is tremendous and really stretches your range.”
Tessa also suggested that she relished her strict workout regime prior to shooting the movie.
She said: “To get in the shape for the role requires a certain level of discipline, which I think is tremendous for an actor.”
Meanwhile, Tessa recently revealed that Valkyrie’s sexuality was a “big topic of conversation” among the makers of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.
The actress confirmed that her character’s sexuality was a major point of discussion before and during the shoot.
Tessa – who is attracted to both men and women, but chooses not to label herself bisexual – shared: “We talked about it a lot, it was big topic of conversation. Because I think rightfully there’s this real want in audiences to see characters be very clearly queer or LGBTQIA inside these spaces. And I think it’s hugely important to have representation.
“And also, as humans, I think that we are not defined by our sexuality, and by who we love. And so sometimes I think to hang a narrative completely on that is a way of actually diminishing the humanity of the character. Because you don’t allow them to be anything else.”

Eamonn Holmes thinks GB News can beat Good Morning Britain’s ratings record

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes thinks GB News can beat the ratings record of ‘Good Morning Britain’.
The 62-year-old broadcaster hosted fellow ITV show ‘This Morning’ alongside wife Ruth Langsford from 2006 until 2022 and now fronts a rival breakfast show on GB News, which he has suggested could end up beating Piers Mrogan’s record viewing figures of almost two million for an episode of ‘GMB’ in May 2020.
Asked whether he thought GB News’ breakfast show could surpass that figure, Eamonn told reporters at the TIC Awards: “Oh God yes. You wouldn’t be doing what you do if you don’t think you’re the best at what you do. So of course, if you don’t think you can overtake them you shouldn’t be doing it!”
The former ‘Sunrise’ presenter went on to insist that he did not “resign” from ITV as he branded his former employer’s team as a “ministry of lies.
He claimed: “The ministry of lies, their press office, of course, which chunder out the same sort of… yeah, the ministry of lies. So the point is I did not resign from ITV, ITV resigned from me, and I never received a single explanation once of why they wanted rid of me, so that was that”
Eamonn – who has son Jack, 20, with Ruth and as well as Declan, 33, Rebecca, 31, and Niall, 29, from his first marriage to Gabrielle – went on to insist that official statements by ITV have been untrue.
He added: “No matter what you’ve been told. And also the sort of stuff that comes out: ‘Eamonn believes he’s male, pale and stale’. It doesn’t look like it, does it? Eamonn never once said it, ITV press office said that. I’ve never slagged off ITV. I’m just telling the truth.”
Former ‘X Factor’ presenter Dermot O’Leary and ex-‘Big Brother’ star Alison Hammond took over the show’s Friday slot while Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield remain as regular presenters on Mondays to Thursdays, with Ruth continuing to anchor lunchtime show ‘Loose Women’ on a regular basis.
Last month, Eamonn accused ITV of lying, and a spokesperson told Metro.co.uk in response: “This isn’t a version of events that we recognise and as we have said before we wish Eamonn all of the very best.”

Chris Hemsworth to read CBeebies Bedtime Story

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth has signed up for CBeebies’ ‘Bedtime Stories’.
The ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’’ actor will read Salina Yoon’s ‘Stormy Night’ as he becomes the latest celebrity to appear on the children’s bedtime show, which airs every weekday at 6.50pm.
The Hollywood star is set to read his first story this Friday (8.07.22) and will be telling the tale of a little bear who is frightened of the rain and thunder.
The father-of-three – who shares daughter India, 10, and eight-year-old twin sons Sasha and Tristan with wife Elsa Pataky – “loves nothing more” than reading to his own kids and is honoured to appear on the show.
He said: “I love nothing more than reading bedtime stories to my children and it was a joy to get to read ‘Stormy Night’, a story about a little bear who is scared of storms.
“Even though I know a thing or two about thunder and lightning, I always feel better when the storm passes.”
Hemsworth will be joining a long list of Hollywood stars who have appeared on the programme, including Tom Hiddleston, Harry Styles, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, James McAvoy and David Schwimmer.
‘The Office’ and ‘Minions’ star Steve Carell was the latest to narrate Miguel Ordonez ‘The Eyebrows of Doom’ last week (1.07.22).
Carell said: “I loved reading to my kids when they were younger so it was a great pleasure to read a Bedtime Story for CBeebies, about a pair of mischievous eyebrows causing havoc – something I’m sure we can all relate to.”
Meanwhile, the dad-of-two – who has 21-year-old daughter Elisabeth Anne and 18-year-old son Johnny with his wife Nancy Carell – answered some fan questions on social media before his appearance.
One viewer revealed a “sweet” misunderstanding with their daughter who thought they were looking for Duggee and the Squirrels in a forest, instead of trying to spot actual squirrels, and so they ended up on a 30-minute hunt for CBBC characters.
Steve replied: “That’s very sweet. That’s a moment you’re going to treasure with your kids… And it might all feel insane, it might all feel like you’re losing your mind slightly, but you will reflect back on these memories and these moments with such joy.
“I know you are already – but I still think about these moments of connection with my children.”

Ben Shephard compares Susanna Reid to Love Island star Jacques O’Neil

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Shephard jokingly compared Susanna Reid to ‘Love Island’ star Jacques O’Neil for “trying out different men”.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter teased his co-star for working with the likes of Richard Madeley, Adil Ray and Alastair Campbell since former co-star Piers Morgan left the ITV show in March 2021.
On Thursday’s episode (07.07.22) of ‘GMB’, the duo were discussing the latest drama from Casa Amor after Jacques justified flirting in the villa while his partner Paige Thorne has been in Casa Amor.
As well as getting close with Mollie Salmon, he also kissed Cheyanne Kerr, and Ben quipped: “Well it’s important, you gather all the information you possibly can to make a decision. You can’t rush these things Susanna.”
Susanna mocked Jacques’ logic on the show, and sarcastically said: “How do I know if you’re the right person for me if I haven’t tried out all the other people?!”
However, Ben quickly replied: “Well you’ve been trying out different men week in week out for months now on this show. Don’t pretend you’re no different to Jacques!”
With a wry smile, his co-star joked: “You know what? That’s right, sorry!”
Although Susanna has worked with a number of people since Piers’ exit, she previously admitted he is still a “really important person” in her life, and they have remained close friends.
She said: “We stay in touch and he’s a really important person in my life. We had such an amazing time and that was an incredible dynamic.
“He really put his imprint on the programme and it was very powerful. I remember early on, the rows about the role of women and feminism, and those arguments felt like the big issue at the time, and then, of course, we moved on to Brexit and Trump.
“We went through some really difficult times together as a team and those were very powerful moments.
“And when it came to the lockdown, the pandemic and holding the government to account, he was just unrivalled at holding their feet to the fire, but then it ended.
“All presenting gigs come to an end at some point, don’t they? As they will for all of us. He’s a friend of mine and that won’t change.”

Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon starring in wedding comedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are to team up for a new wedding comedy.
Amazon Studios have landed the rights to the untitled project from writer-director Nick Stoller that has both Will and Reese attached to star.
Plot details are yet to be fully disclosed, but the premise involves two weddings that are booked at the same venue on the same weekend.
Ferrell is producing the movie with Jessica Elbaum via his Gloria Sanchez Productions banner and Witherspoon is producing with Lauren Neudstadter for her Hello Sunshine company. Stoller will produce with his Global Solutions partner Conor Welch.
The majority of the studios dropped out of the bidding early but competition among streaming services to land the movie was intense.
Reese is also set to team up with Dolly Parton and James Patterson on an adaptation of the pair’s novel ‘Run, Rose, Run’ by producing the flick for Hello Sunshine.
The ‘Legally Blonde’ star revealed that she was “honoured” to be working with Patterson and the legendary country music star and couldn’t put the book down when she was reading it.
Reese, 46, said: “Growing up in Nashville, I’ve loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage.
“Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time. Her impact knows no bounds – as a musician, actor, writer, businesswoman, activist and all-around incredible human being – Dolly Parton is not only an icon to me, but a true inspiration to women and girls everywhere.
“My admiration for her grew to even greater heights when reading ‘Run, Rose, Run,’ a gripping and heart-breaking book I couldn’t put down.
“I couldn’t feel more honoured to be working alongside her and James to bring this remarkable story to the screen.”

Alexander Armstrong insists no one can replace Richard Osman on Pointless

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexander Armstrong doesn’t want Richard Osman’s ‘Pointless’ replacements to emulate his former co-star.
The 51-year-old writer and TV producer announced his departure from the BBC teatime game show back in April 2022 and now presenter Alexander, 52, has admitted that despite having stars such as ex ‘Coronation Street’ actress Sally Lindsay and former ‘Blue Peter’ star Konnie Huq fill his shoes, he wouldn’t want anyone to try and copy his friend in any way.
He said: “We’ve got lots of them. So far we’ve had Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Konnie Huq, and Alex Brooker. And we still get Richard back on Saturdays, so he’s still around.”
Asked if they are auditioning for a full-time role, he added: “No one’s told me yet exactly what it is. The last thing I want is for all of them to try to be Richard because, you know, Richard is Richard. Last week he and I went to Wimbledon and he said how he’s been writing solidly.”
The duo had presented ‘Pointless’ – which sees contestants try to find correct but obscure answers for a prize of at least £1000 – together since its inception in 2009 but the former sketch show star conceded that had his co-star not quit the long-running show, he would not have been able to focus on his new career as a fiction author.
He told the Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “He’s now on his fourth book. He could never have done that if he hadn’t given up ‘Pointless’. So it’s great he’s had a chance to knuckle down and get on with his takeover as world’s bestselling author!”
Richard previously admitted he reached a point where he couldn’t give 100% of his energy to all his projects, and something had to give.
He explained: “I had done 12 years of it, so if one thing could go – because I still love ‘House of Games’, and I love doing the writing.
“It was just the one thing where I was like, you know what, let someone else have a go at this.”
