BBC announces Kin series two coming soon

OHMYGOSSIP — The second series of ‘Kin’ will be coming soon to BBC One and iPlayer.
The Irish crime drama from FIFTH SEASON first aired in 2021, with the BBC acquiring and launching the series in November 2023.
Now, UK audiences will be able to catch up with the “explosive” second series in the near future.
In a press release, Head of Programme Acquisition Sue Deeks said: “All I will say is if you found the first series exciting and engrossing, just wait until you see the twists and turns in series two!”
The series tells the story of the Kinsella family, who have a wide reach in the criminal underworld of Dublin. However, their status has caught the attention of a dangerous enemy, leading to suspicion, distrust and feuding amongst the family.
Jennifer Ebell, EVP of EMEA Sales and Acquisitions at FIFTH SEASON, said: “The Kinsellas are back and the stakes are higher than ever. Series two of this family crime drama is explosive and we are pleased the BBC joins the growing number of our international partners.”
Series two will see the return of the star-studded cast, including Aidan Gillen (‘Game of Thrones’), Charlie Cox (‘Daredevil’), Clare Dunne (‘The Last Duel’), Francis Magee (‘The Witcher’), Sam Keeley (‘The Cured’), Maria Doyle Kennedy (‘Outlander’), Emmett J. Scanlan (‘Peaky Blinders’), and Yasmin Seky as the Kinsella family come face-to-face with a new enemy closer to home.
Previously, Charlie Cox had discussed working on the project, and how “impressed” he was with the family dynamic the cast was able to create.
Speaking to DigitalSpy, he said: “I was really so impressed with all the other actors, and the family dynamic that we were able to create.
“I remember getting on set with everyone, and being like, ‘I believe us as a family. I see it. I see the dynamics. I recognise the people from my own family. I see how they’ve become like that’. I thought the casting was tremendous on it.”

Jodie Comer will ‘always miss’ Killing Eve and reveals if she would ever do another series

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Comer will “always miss” ‘Killing Eve’, but doesn’t “long” to do another series.
The 30-year-old actress, who starred as Villanelle in the BBC drama alongside Sandra Oh’s Eve Polastri, finished working on the show in 2022, and has admitted she misses playing the character, but is happy with leaving the programme behind.
She told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “I’ll always miss her.
“But I do think the show had to come to an end. I don’t long to come back for another series and revisit her.
“I feel like I did all I could with her. And that’s a nice feeling – to come away from it with a sense of contentment.”
The ‘Free Guy’ star is set to take to the big screen again in ‘The End We Started From’, where London is plagued by extreme rain and flooding, all whilst a new mother and her child are forced to flee the city.
Reflecting on the picture, Jodie explained that she was drawn to the project because of director Mahalia Belo’s interpretation of the realities of motherhood.
She said: “One of the many reasons I wanted to work with the director, Mahalia Belo, wis that she didn’t want to shy away from the beauty but also the brutality of labour and motherhood, and all of these kinds of complex emotions that you can have with your own body. How you change fundamentally as a person.”
The actress also admitted she struggled working with the babies, and that she was left “visibly shaking”.
She explained: “I’m not a mother, and the first babies I et were eight weeks old and tiny. My hands were visibly shaking.
“I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, what have I done? This is terrifying’, and then slowly, as we filmed, I became more comfortable.
“The babies had to have a break every 20 minutes – rightly so. But it meant that you could be on one shot and the baby’s looking at you in a way that kind of lights you up and gives you something spontaneous, and the has to go on a break and it’s, ‘Ok, now you have to do it with a doll.’
“And you have to try to summon that same emotion, which feels really artificial.”

Catherine Tyldesley had to ‘sacrifice’ holiday for Corrie audition: ‘We were getting on the plane!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine Tyldesley has “always sacrificed a lot” for her career.
The 40-year-old actress was on holiday when the call came for her to audition for a part in BBC drama ‘Lilies’ in 2006 and was just about to get on a plane to Washington when producers got in touch about the role of Eva Price in ‘Coronation Street’ in 2011.
Speaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast, she told former ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kate Thornton: “I have always sacrificed a lot for my career. There were two big jobs…when ‘Lilies’ came along I was in France and they wanted to see me for a recall. I was on a very long overdue holiday that I’d saved up for for ages.
“My agent said they really liked me and I remember thinking that it’d cost me more money to fly back; I didn’t have much at the time but I thought ‘Let’s do it!’
“Weirdly, I was about to fly to Washington when I got a call from ‘Coronation Street’ and it was the same scenario. We were physically getting on the plane. And luckily, my friend, said ‘Oh babes, I’m fine. Go! You have to go!'”
Catherine landed the role of barmaid Eva and stayed with the ITV1 soap opera until 2018 but explained that she still suffers from “impostor syndrome” and has to think back to those moments when she took a “risk” and it paid off.
She said: “It’s decisions like that where I do have days of self-doubt, I do have impostor syndrome but to my truest self, I know I can do it. It’s digging deep on those days where you feel really low and you don’t have any confidence. Moments like that have taught me that sometimes taking a risk and making a small sacrifice can absolutely pay off. You’ve got to be dedicated in this industry.”
Since leaving ‘Coronation Street’, Catherine has been a contestant on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, appeared in BBC sitcom ‘Scarborough’ and is about to star in a UK tour of ‘Bonnie and Clyde: The Musical’ but explained that she will always have “so much respect” for soap actors because of how they operate around such a hectic schedule.
She said: “I’ve got so much respect for soap actors. I did a job recently, I won’t say which one it was but the director pulled me to one side and told me that my stamina was off the scale. He said it’s because I’d done a soap and I’m used to that crazy schedule and I’m able to pull it out of the bag when something changes at the drop of a hat.
“It’s a whole new skill set when you work on a soap, it really is and I had an incredible time at ‘Corrie’.”

She told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “I knew I couldn’t dance, but I was keen to give it a whirl, so when I got offered to do the ‘Strictly’ special, I couldn’t say no.
“Being partnered with Neil was the cherry on top – and now I babysit for him with his little daughter, Havana, which is a win-win.”

‘I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise…’ Melissa Barrera reflects on Scream firing

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa Barrera has no ill feelings after being axed from the ‘Scream’ franchise over her pro-Palestinian social media posts.
The 33-year-old Mexican actress played Sam Carpenter – the illegitimate daughter of original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis and survivor of the Woodsboro murders – in the fifth and sixth instalments in the slasher franchise, but she was dropped from ‘Scream VII’ by production company Spyglass who deemed her posts on Instagram calling for an end to Israel’s bombing of Gaza and reference to Israel as a “colonised country” to be antisemitic.
Melissa insists she will forever grateful to be part of the ‘Scream’ films – which late director Wes Craven started back in 1996 – and is now ready to move on.
She told Deadline: “I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever.”
Speaking about the friendships she made with her castmates in the two movies – who include Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, Jack Quaid and Courteney Cox – she added: “We’re family for life. If we’re ever in the vicinity of each other, we always find each other.”
Following her axing from the next ‘Scream’ film in November 2023, Spyglass released a statement confirming their position, which read: “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Days later, Melissa insisted she would not stop posting about the Israel-Hamas War, posting online: “I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom… Silence is not an option for me.”
Pre-production on ‘Scream VII’ has been met with numerous challenges including the departure of Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter, Sam’s half-sister and survivor of the Woodsboro killings, in the two previous films.
The 21-year-old actress departed director Christopher Landon’s instalment due to a scheduling conflict with shooting on the second season of Netflix series ‘Wednesday’ – in which she plays the title role of Wednesday Addams, based on ‘The Addams Family’ character.

Layton Williams ‘didn’t want to harp on’ about being in a same-sex couple on Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Layton Williams “didn’t want to harp on” about being in a same-sex couple on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 29-year-old actor reached the final of last year’s edition of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition with professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, 26, and he found fans of the show could see a “great friendship” between the pair instead of only seeing two men dancing together.
He told Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “I love it. That was what was the great thing about me and Nikita Kuzmin. I really didn’t want to be harping on about the same sex thing – we’re past that.
“People could see a great friendship and the fact we really got on. And we were bringing something a little bit different because I am a bit different.”
The West End star – who became part of the fourth same-sex coupling on the show following Nicola Adams and Katya Jones in 2020, ‘Bake Off’ winner John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in 2021, and comedienne Jayde Adams and Karen Hauer in 2022 – was “really glad” to have been paired up with Nikita, and now he sees his co-star as more of a brother.
He said: “I was really glad to do it with Nikita because he wasn’t on my mood board at first, which he knows but I still feel bad for saying.
“The fact he’s a straight man living his best life, we had a lot of parents telling us their boys could see themselves in Nikita being confident holding my hand and being affectionate in a platonic, brotherly way.”
Layton is also known for his role as Stephen Carmichael in the BBC Three comedy series ‘Bad Education’ and recently reprised the role for the fifth series, but he joked there is often confusion between fans of Netflix hit ‘Sex Education’ because of the similar titles.
He said: “Could they not have chosen another name? People think I’m being rude when they come up to me and say, ‘Oh I love you in ‘Sex Education’. I’m like, ‘I’m not in it, I’m in ‘Bad Education’.
“We should do a crossover episode – I’d love that!”

Joel Dommett drops HUGE Masked Singer clue involving comedy legend

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett has hinted a contestant on ‘The Masked Singer’ is “very connected” to Jennifer Saunders.
The 38-year-old presenter hosts the ITV1 series, in which celebrities conceal their identities in extravagant costumes while performing, and after sitcom star Jennifer, 65, appeared as a guest judge in an episode that is to be aired on Saturday (20.01.24), he has admitted viewers may even worry the whole thing was “set up”.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Jennifer was so good on the show and really embodied the headmistress, she really got into it.
“The reveal on that episode was such an incredible moment because it was someone very connected to Jennifer.
“I feel like people are going to watch it and be like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so set up’ – but it was not.”
Judge Davina McCall agreed, noting that it was an “absolute” surprise when the mask came off and having Jennifer there to witness the unveiling of her friend was the “icing on the cake.”
She said: “When the mask came off, I was like, ‘Oh, it’s that person, great!’ Then I suddenly put two and two together that Jennifer Saunders and that person were incredibly connected.
“It was a fantastic moment to see them face to face like that. It was an absolute shock – of all the people that night for us to choose to unmask, none of us had any idea there was a link.
“This character loved it and having Jennifer there in the moment was the icing on the cake.”
Jennifer – who has been married to comedian Ade Edmondson since 1985 and has actress daughters Ella, 37, Beattie, 36, and singer Freya, 33, with him – famously played hapless PR guru Edina Monsoon in the classic sitcom ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ alongside Dame Joanna Lumley as boozy fashion editor Patricia “Patsy” Stone.
In the show, her long-suffering daughter Saffron was played by ‘Jonathan Creek’ actress Julia Sawalha, while her useless secretary Bubble was portrayed by West End star Jane Horrocks.
Prior to finding major success with ‘Ab Fab’, Jennifer fronted a double act with ‘Vicar of Dibley’ star Dawn French and the pair became known for parodying films like ‘Misery’ and ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ on their BBC show ‘French and Saunders’.
Last week, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Shirley Ballas was unveiled as Rat and the week before that, ‘Pointless’ host Alexander Armstrong was unmasked as Chicken Caesar in week two, while ‘I’ll Never Fall In Love Again’ singer Dionne Warwick was unmasked as Weather in the first episode of the new series.

Angela Rippon in ‘best shape of her life’ after Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Rippon is in “the best shape of her life” after competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 79-year-old broadcaster was among the stars vying for the glitterball trophy in the 2023 series, eventually finishing in eighth position, and now she has revealed she’s lost around a stone in weight and feels fitter than ever following the gruelling stint.
She told The Mirror newspaper: “I feel in the best shape of my life. I’ve lost about a stone from when I started the show.”

She added to the publication: “I’ll be keeping up my cryotherapy which I started during the series … That and retail therapy will keep me going.
“I found during the show that the more cryotherapy I did the less I needed to rely on ibuprofen and Voltarol. It really does keep the aches and pains at bay.”
She added: “The 17-year-old me who would love to have been a professional dancer, she’s been 60 years in the wings, waiting patiently. Now I’m unleashing her. In my head I’m still only 30. I really am having the time of my life.”
It comes after Angela previously voiced her surprise at finding viral fame since joining the show.
She told The Sun newspaper: “It’s a whole new experience for me, going viral. “The programme I’ve been working on for the past 15 years – ‘Rip-Off Britain’, which is on the air at the moment – it hardly ever makes headlines of any description.
“Then suddenly to find that I’m doing something that is giving me great pleasure and I’m having a lot of fun doing it … This whole thing of the internet and Instagram and all the rest of it is a world that I have never inhabited until recently.”

“But I don’t want to sit here like other artists might, and shine and gloss this up and say, ‘It was my decision’. I don’t want to do that.
“I don’t want to… say, ‘Oh, it was an amicable decision to leave – I’ve got lots of things on next year, I can’t do it any more’.
“No. Genuinely, I accept their decision, and they’ll find someone great, I’m sure. But am I going to miss it? Yeah.

“I’m going to miss drinking champagne after the show with him and chatting life stories but hopefully if he reads this, he might get in touch.”

Johnny Depp hails directing Modi to be ‘fulfilling and transformative’

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Depp has found directing ‘Modi’ to be an “incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience”.
The 60-year-old actor has stepped behind the camera for the first time in 25 years to work on the biopic of painter Amedeo Moigliani – which stars the likes of Al Pacino, Sally Phillips, Stephen Graham, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Antonia Desplat – and now the project is wrapping production, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star has shared his “profound gratitude” to everyone who he has worked with on the movie.
He said in a statement: ““Embarking on this cinematic journey as the director of Modi has been an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience. I would like to express my profound gratitude to the entire cast, crew, and producers for their unwavering commitment and creativity.
“To Al, who requested that I make this film—how could I refuse Pacino? A sincere acknowledgement for generously contributing his talent and dedication to this project.
“Modi is a testament to the collaborative spirit of independent filmmaking, and I am excited to present this unique and compelling story to the world.”
Most of the movie was shot in Budapest, but ‘Godfather’ actor Al filmed most of his scenes recently in the US.
The movie is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and tells the story of the famous painter and sculptor Modigliani during his time in Paris in 1916.
The film chronicles the life of the artist across a turbulent and eventful 48 hours that sees him on the run from the police through the streets of the war-torn French capital.
His desire to leave the city and end his career is dismissed by other bohemians, including the French artist Maurice Utrillo, Belarusian-born Chaim Soutine and his English muse and lover Beatrice Hastings.
Modi seeks advice from his Polish art dealer and friend Leopold Zborowski but the chaos reaches a crescendo when he is faced with a collector who could change his life.

Jodie Foster turned down chance to play Princess Leia in Star Wars

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Foster turned down the chance to play Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars’.
The 61-year-old actress was in her early teens when she was approached about the opportunity to play the iconic character in George Lucas’ 1977 classic ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ but she was unable to sign up due to a scheduling conflict and the part eventually went to Carrie Fisher, who was 19 years old when she played Princess Leia.
Jodie opened up about the missed opportunity during an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ after the host asked her: “You’ve been in so many iconic roles, and we love what you do.
“But I saw this on the Internet – you were offered the role of Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars’, is that true?”
Jodie then replied: “I was, yeah. They were going for a younger Princess Leia but I had a conflict. I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn’t want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract.”
The actress added: “They did an amazing job. I don’t know how good I would have been. I might have had different hair. I might have gone with a pineapple.”
Jodie shot to fame as a child star with notable roles including playing a young prostitute in 1976’s ‘Taxi Driver’ and she recently admitted becoming famous at a young age totally changed her life.
She told the Guardian newspaper: “There is a meta-weirdness to having been a public figure from the time you were young, right? Especially if you have stayed being an actor.”
Jodie went on to insist she learned some “hard lessons” from her early experiences of fame.
She explained: “Being a public figure, your universe is altered and you just don’t know anything else. And you don’t know that you’re a blowhard, and that you’re not a good friend, and that you never show up, because people indulge you.
“So there are hard lessons you have to learn. There’s something Hugh Grant said, which I thought was right on: that the fame thing at a young age is like being shot up with steroids and you live with those big muscles your whole life, and then, one day, you make the decision that there are no more steroids.
“And you don’t recognise yourself and have no idea who you are. And you have to rebuild an entire identity. “That can be difficult, and that’s something I had to learn late.”

She told The Sun newspaper: “To say I have found the last couple of months easy would be totally disingenuous. I used to think people were exaggerating and being melodramatic when they were saying how hard it is.
“But, honest to God, it’s the hardest gig you’ll ever do.”

Only Fools legend Sir David Jason speaks out on new TV role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason loved getting the chance to work with Jay Blades.
The 83-year-old actor – who is best known for starring as Del Boy in the classic sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses – has teamed up with ‘Repair Shop’ star Jay, 53, for new series ‘David and Jay’s Touring Toolshed’ for the BBC and explained it was “great” working on the show as he was reminded of the days when he used to work as an electrician.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Seriously, though, it was great working with Jay. He’s a super character. Lovely fella. Very, very easy to work with. He’s the sort of person where what you see is what you get.
“Going back into history, when I first started work, I was an apprentice electrician. When you are an apprentice to any trade, you have to absorb all sorts of traits – you’re bumping into people who are bricklayers, plasterers, pipe benders, plumbers.
“And if you’re interested in making things, it leaves its mark. You get interested in how a plumber bends a piece of pipe and that sort of thing is still with me, I still love bending pipes. Well, now the pipe I bend is round Jay’s neck, but…!”
Meanwhile, Jay explained he doesn’t even need to “hope” that the programme will inspire viewers to start doing DIY themselves because he is confident that it will.
He said: “I don’t use the word hope.
“I know it’s going to, plain and simple. This show, you’ve got a legend such as Sir David, and someone who knows about making and is as enthusiastic about it as me, and that enthusiasm comes over on screen and people will be inspired to continue making, tinkering and pushing it forward.”

EastEnder’s Kim Medcalf leaves door open for Sam Mitchell’s return

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Medcalf is open to the idea of an ‘EastEnders’ return.
The 50-year-old actress, who has appeared in the BBC soap on-and-off for over 20 years as Sam Mitchell, left the show last night (18.01.24) for the foreseeable future.
The character was forced to leave after she blackmailed her brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) once she discovered he had cheated on his wife Kat (Jessie Wallace) with Emma Harding (Patsy Kensit) only to expose the revelation in the Queen Vic pub and end his marriage.
Reflecting on the role with RadioTimes.com, Kim said: “It’s been brilliant, as always! It was perfect timing for me and worked really well that Sam was coming back for another short stint. That’s the beauty of this character – I love that she comes in, disrupts things, and then leaves the debris behind her.
“There’s a lot of drama with Sam, and it’s never plain sailing.
“Hopefully, she’ll be back again some time for another stint of causing chaos.”
Kim – who initially took over the role of Sam from Danniella Westbrook in 2002 – also discussed whether Sam and Phil could reconcile, to which she concluded that it was “feasible”.
