‘The ultimate date movie’: Matthew Vaughn hopes that couples enjoy Argylle together

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Vaughn wants ‘Argylle’ to be the “ultimate date movie”.
The 52-year-old director has helmed the upcoming spy comedy film – which features a cast including Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard and Dua Lipa – and revealed that he toned down the violence in the picture so couples can watch it together.
Matthew told Total Film magazine: “I wanted to make the ultimate date movie. It’ll be out just before Valentine’s Day.
“When we test-screened it… I don’t know if this is an insult or a compliment, but one of the anonymous things went, ‘This is the first Matthew Vaughn movie I feel comfortable sharing with my wife.'”
The ‘Layer Cake’ filmmaker recalled how he had an enjoyable date watching a movie after being advised to take a girl to the cinema.
Matthew said: “I went to see ‘Romancing the Stone’ on a date. I was very young and inexperienced, and I didn’t know what to do. And somebody said, ‘Always go on a date to the cinema, because then you don’t have to talk.’
“I went in thinking I would be bored out of mind, and I’d pretend to like it, and then I’d have something to talk about. And I loved it more than her.
“So I had a movie that we both enjoyed, and I got my first kiss. It was a bloody good night.”
The movie follows spy novelist Elly Conway (Howard) as she gets drawn into the world of real-life espionage and Vaughn hopes that it provides a “ray of sunshine” in difficult times.
He said: “Right now, everyone needs a warm hug, and we need to feel happy. I’m hoping that people will come out and just appreciate that ‘Argylle’ is warm. It’s a ray of sunshine in a very dark world.”

Josh Hutcherson lost out on Home Alone role

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Hutcherson lost out on a role in ‘Home Alone’.
As a child actor, the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ actor auditioned for the film franchise but lost out to another kid, leaving him devastated.
He told Buzzfeed: “I was probably 11, I think, when I auditioned for it. It got down to me and the other guy. That was the first time that I tasted rejection, so that was really hard.”
Josh, 31, didn’t specify which movie in the franchise he auditioned for but it is likely to have been ‘Home Alone 4’ based on the timeline.
The first two movies in the series ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’ starred Macaulay Culkin and were released in 1990 and 1992.
Hutcherson was born in 1992.
‘Home Alone 3’ was released in 1997 when Josh was five years old and starred Alex D. Linz as Alex Pruitt, while ‘Home Alone 4’ featured Michael Andrew Weinberg, 30, as Kevin McCallister.
Christian Martyn starred in 2012’s ‘Home Alone: The Holiday Heist’, while Archie Yates was the star of 2021’s ‘Home Sweet Home Alone’.
Meanwhile, Josh recently confirmed plans for ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’.
The actor – who plays night guard Mike Schmidt in the blockbuster adaptation of the horror video game – revealed the team are looking to get to work on a second movie “as soon as possible”, with bosses currently working on the plot.
He told Variety: “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible.
“Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was so cool and phenomenal.”
Hutcherson admitted while everyone involved was hopeful about its prospects, they have been blown away by the way the movie clicked with fans.
He added: “We hoped it would connect with audiences, But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did.
“I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”

Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender to star in Soderbergh’s new spy thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender will co-star in spy thriller ‘Black Bag’.
The 54-year-old actress and the 46-year-old actor are set to work with director Steven Soderbergh on his upcoming feature, with a script by Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ collaborator David Keopp.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script is being kept under wraps but the movie will be set in the UK.
There are plans to shoot in May in London but financing and distribution deals have yet to be put in place.
Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs will produce the film.
Soderbergh previously worked with Blanchett in 2006 movie ‘The Good German’, while he produced ‘Ocean’s 8’, which she appeared in.
Fassbender worked with Soderbergh on 2011’s ‘Haywire’, starring MMA fighter Gina Carano.
Speaking previously about working with Soderbergh on ‘The Good German’, Blanchett called it a “near perfect” experience”.
She told The Guardian: “It was one of the great experiences, near perfect, because Steven is unbelievably clear and the vision he had for this film was so complete. There was one day, at midday, when he goes, ‘We’ve shot everything we’ve got to shoot and we can’t move over to the next stage, so we’ll all go home.’ And it’s not because anyone wants to go off and play golf. He knows exactly what he wants and there’s no mucking around. I could pick up the kids from school and have a life while I was shooting.
“I came off ‘Notes on a Scandal’ on a Friday and started shooting ‘The Good German’ on the Monday. I had to pick up a German accent – I’m not a mimic, so I was panicking a bit. The film has a heightened style, and it’s in black and white. But it’s a modern film. It’s almost like Steven Soderbergh has created something unique – because the violence in the film is real, it’s not stylised, the sex, the language, the expletives are not stylised. So we feel like we understand, but then we’re distanced from the action at the same time.
“There’s the epic quality to the story of a love that can never be – it’s been decimated by the realities of war in the way that Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart became estranged [in ‘Casablanca’]. And the political backdrop that’s behind ‘Casablanca’ is also behind ‘The Good German’. It’s quite Brechtian, and the emotions are handled in that Forties way. There’s no introspection in Forties films unless it’s expressed externally, and that was really challenging. It’s not melodramatic, it’s what people do. Often, George [Clooney] and I would say, ‘Whoa, that felt eggy’ – it felt like you’ve got egg on your face – and Steven said, ‘If it doesn’t feel eggy, you’re not there.’ We just had to go for it.”

“We had like a big incident happen.”

Millie Gibson’s character to be written out of Doctor Who?

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Gibson reportedly won’t return for a second season of ‘Doctor Who’.
The 19-year-old former ‘Coronation Street’ actress joined the show as Ruby Sunday, a companion to Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor, last year.
She made her first appearance in the 2023 Christmas special and will star in Ncuti’s upcoming eight-episode season, which will begin airing in May.
However, it has been reported that Millie won’t return for a second series and her character has been written out.
A source told The Mirror: “Millie Gibson has all but left now and there’s a brand new companion, which is really exciting. [Showrunner] Russell T Davies is keeping things moving and isn’t letting the grass grow, that’s for sure.”
Millie has been replaced by actress Varada Seethu, 32, who has already started filming in Cardiff.
A BBC source said: “Varada is a real gem, Russell was just blown away by her talent. The cast and crew have really warmed to her and he’s sure the fans will too.”
Speaking after landing the role, Millie said: “I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me.”
Ncuti said: “Millie is full of talent, strength, she has a cheeky sparkle in her eye and is sharp as a razor. This adventure is going to be so wild and so fun, I cannot wait to sail the universe with Millie.”
And Russell commented: “It’s the great honour of my job to find the next generation of talent. As a ‘Coronation Street’ fan, I’ve seen Millie survive chases, guns and sieges, but that’s nothing compared to what lies ahead for Ruby Sunday.”

Sir David Jason would love Only Fools and Horses reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason would love an ‘Only Fools and Horses’ comeback.
The 83-year-old actor revealed he would jump at the chance to play Derek Trotter – aka Del Boy – again but admitted it is unlikely since writer John Sullivan passed away in 2011.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TV Mag: “Well, to be honest with you, we would like that to happen very much because not only did we enjoy it so much, but so did most of the British public. Because of that, we would love to do it.
“I don’t think we could do another episode of ‘Only Fools And Horses’ because the brains behind it, Mr John Sullivan, is unfortunately no longer with us.”
Additionally, actor Roger Lloyd Pack – who played Trigger – died in January 2014, while John Challis, who played Boycie, passed away in September 2021.
Meanwhile, David has teamed up with ‘Repair Shop’ star Jay Blades, 53, for new series ‘David and Jay’s Touring Toolshed’ for the BBC and explained it was “great” working on the show as he was reminded of the days when he used to work as an electrician.
He previously told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Seriously, though, it was great working with Jay. He’s a super character. Lovely fella. Very, very easy to work with. He’s the sort of person where what you see is what you get.
“Going back into history, when I first started work, I was an apprentice electrician. When you are an apprentice to any trade, you have to absorb all sorts of traits – you’re bumping into people who are bricklayers, plasterers, pipe benders, plumbers.
“And if you’re interested in making things, it leaves its mark. You get interested in how a plumber bends a piece of pipe and that sort of thing is still with me, I still love bending pipes. Well, now the pipe I bend is round Jay’s neck, but…!”
And, Jay explained he doesn’t even need to “hope” that the programme will inspire viewers to start doing DIY themselves because he is confident that it will.
He said: “I don’t use the word hope.
“I know it’s going to, plain and simple. This show, you’ve got a legend such as Sir David, and someone who knows about making and is as enthusiastic about it as me, and that enthusiasm comes over on screen and people will be inspired to continue making, tinkering and pushing it forward.”

Christine McGuinness focusing on career and children

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness is “trying to carve out” her own career, following her split from TV presenter husband Paddy McGuinness.
The 35-year-old model – who split from Paddy in 2022 after 11 years of marriage – explained her main focus is on supporting their three children, seven-year-old Felicity and twins Leo and Penelope, 10, who have all been diagnosed with autism.
She told The Mirror: “My main focus for 2024 is going to be on my children, they are always my main focus. Then work, work for myself and trying to carve out a career so that I can always look after my children and give them a future what they want and support them and their needs for as long as possible. That’s really where I’m at right now.
“I want to try and be more present, which I’m very good at with my children. When I’m with the children, that’s where I’m my most authentic self, and I’m just me. It’s just me at home with the children. I’ll put my phone away and I’m not on social media. I’m not even speaking to friends. I literally I will spend that time with my children as I’m really seeing now that they’re only little for a short time.
“They’re growing up so fast. Anything outside of family life, I get distracted so easily and my focus isn’t great. I’ll start a task, and I won’t finish it. That’s something that I really need to work on. Just be more present in the moment and get things done.”
Christine revealed she looks after her children’s wellbeing by doing yoga and mindfulness.
She said: “I do want my children to be in touch with themselves, to understand the feelings, to talk to me if they’re feeling sad to tell me when they’re really, really happy. So I think wellness for me as a mum, instilling that into my children quite young is very important. I do feel like I’ve got it, I feel like they’re really good, they’re really open. We’re really, really close and any mum, my children are my absolute world. I want them to be themselves and to be authentic and to understand how they feel.”

The 55-year-old actress – who is best known for playing Saffron ‘Saffy’ Monsoon in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ – has become the latest celebrity to leave the ITV show, after she removed her Bubble Tea outfit and revealed her identity to the judging panel.
Speaking about her early exit from the show, Julia said: “I’ve loved it! My friend earlier this year said, ‘You don’t sing enough, Julia!'”
Julia’s exit from the show was confirmed after she appeared in the sing-off alongside Owl.
Jennifer Saunders – who previously starred alongside Julia in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ – appeared on this week’s episode as a guest judge, alongside Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan, and the duo shared an emotional embrace after Julia’s identity was confirmed.

Jamie Dornan poisoned by toxic caterpillar

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan was poisoned by a toxic caterpillar.
‘The Tourist’ actor, 41, was rushed to hospital during a golfing break in Portugal and is said to have been “very lucky” to come out of the ordeal alive.
His radio presenter friend Gordon Smart, who was also taken sick on the trip, said he thought they were both having a “heart attack”.
Gordon was quoted by the Daily Star Sunday saying: “We were having a great time, first day loads of golf, went out, loads of wine was drunk.
“Then I started to feel tingling in my left hand, and then tingling in my left arm, which is a sign of a heart attack.”
Gordon was rushed to hospital where he also saw Jamie being raced into the Emergency Room, and admitted: “It was a pretty scary time.”
The former tabloid reporter recovered and went back to their holiday home, where he found Jamie “with all this stuff attached to his chest”.
But medics told the star brushing up against poisonous hairy caterpillars on the golf course could have been to blame, and said other golfers had nearly died.
Jamie, who has three children with his composer wife Amelia Warner, 41, told Gordon on a show about the incident: “Dear me Gordon, about 20 mins after you left my left arm went numb, left leg went numb, my right leg went numb and I found myself in the back of an ambulance.”
Gordon added: “Good news is it wasn’t a hangover… it was a poisonous toxic caterpillar.”

Barry Keoghan recalls ‘insane’ Steven Spielberg audition

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Keoghan has recalled doing an “insane” audition for Steven Spielberg.
The 31-year-old actor has shot to global fame after starring as scheming Oxford University student Oliver Quick in Emerald Fennell’s popular Netflix drama ‘Saltburn’, but says he could have made it big years ago if he had landed a part in Spielberg’s 2018 sci-fi film ‘Ready Player One’.
He told GQ: “I remember doing the screen test, and he had a little camcorder in his hand, and I was like, ‘This is insane. Steven Spielberg is filming me doing a scene, on a camcorder.’”
Barry also said he has “always wanted to play a pilot”, which would have made him perfect for a Spielberg adventure movie.
He has now realised the dream by landing the part of character Lieutenant Curtis Biddick in the new Apple TV+ drama ‘Masters of the Air’.
Barry said one of the keys to his acting is showing his emotions through his eyes, adding: “If you can convey your emotions, what you’re feeling, with just your eyes, it’s powerful.”
Despite his belief in his talents, Barry also told he fears his newborn son will soon be telling him he can’t act.
He had his boy Brando – named after Hollywood icon Marlon Brando – 17 months ago in August 2022 with his now ex-girlfriend Alyson Kierans, while he was shooting ‘Saltburn’.
Barry said: “He’ll live up to (his name.) He has to have that leather jacket and that rock-star attitude, you know what I mean? He’ll have a motorbike when he’s 12, I think.
“He’ll have a toothpick (in his mouth) walking around seventh grade.
“He’ll probably have a toothpick when I get home!”
Barry’s interviewer told him kids grow up so fast it may not have been a good idea for his sake to name his son after a Hollywood rebel as he may soon end up criticising him.
Barry replied: “Aww, God… ‘Dad, you’re a (rubbish) actor. You can’t do accents.’”

‘The Great British Bake Off’ could ‘be moving to Netflix’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Great British Bake Off’ could reportedly move to Netflix.
Channel 4’s deal to show the popular baking programme ends after this year’s series but bosses are said to have yet to start negotiations to keep it on the broadcaster.
A TV source told The Sun: “Bosses have a dilemma – break the bank to keep ‘Bake Off’, or lose it to a rival.
“It’s no secret that Channel 4 is facing cash problems so do they really have the money to secure another deal?
“They’ve been making cutbacks and this could well be to fund a new deal. But if they can’t match the pay demands, there’s not much they can do, and that opens the door for rivals like ITV and Netflix to swoop in.
“The fact is, this year is crunch time for the future of the ‘Bake Off’.”
The Sun also reported Channel 4 is planning to cut up to 200 jobs and has axed a string of shows following a huge downturn in TV advertising.
Its cash issues has sparked speculation ‘Bake Off’ is prime for a takeover by rival channels and streaming sites.
The show, which features judges Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond – and which has featured Matt Lucas – on top salaries, started the BBC in 2010, but was poached by Channel 4 in 2016 for £25 million after its ratings took off.
Netflix currently has the rights to air the show in America, while ITV was close to bidding for the UK rights during the last round of negotiations but decided against it.
Channel 4 told The Sun: “Any speculation around contracts is just that and we look forward to bringing many more soggy bottoms to our viewers in future.” Netflix and ITV declined to comment to the publication.

Julia Roberts reveals why she envies other actors

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Roberts envies actors who are “very technical”.
The ‘Pretty Woman’ star, 56, had no acting experience or formal training when she moved to New York City after high school to pursue a career in showbusiness, and said she simply relies on her ability when shooting movies to ignore the cameras.
She told Vogue: “Well, it’s funny, because my most technical job is to forget where the camera is.
“It’s the camera’s responsibility to be in the right place for the scene. That’s not my job. I do think that is a thing that kind of separates actors from non-actors – being able to find the camera, but for it to have no conscious consequence.
“It doesn’t scare me, it doesn’t comfort me. It’s the documentarian of whatever I’m doing.”
When her interviewer pointed out she wasn’t trained as an actor, Julia added: “No, and I still envy people I work with who are very technical. I find it really fascinating, and I envy it so much.
“There’s so many different ways to approach it.”
Despite living in the spotlight, Julia also said she doesn’t look at herself in the mirror and think she is has a famous face.
She added: “One (face) would be make-up-less and one would be made up. That’s the most sophomoric difference.
“But I can’t compartmentalise myself in that way.”
Julia shot to global stardom thanks to her role in ‘Pretty Woman’ in 1990, three years before she married her country musician first husband Lyle Lovett, 66, who she divorced in 1995.
She is now settled with her second spouse, cinematographer Daniel Moder, 54, after they got hitched in 2002, and with whom she has three children – twins Hazel and Phinneas, 19, and 16-year-old son Henry.
The actress also told Vogue she thinks she was lucky to find fame before starting a family with Danny, adding: “Well, I think that the luckiest aspect of my work life/family life is that the success of my work life came earlier.
“So by the time I had the success of my family life and had a husband and children who wanted to stay home, I had been working for 18 years.
“And so I felt that I had the luxury. I didn’t have to pick one or the other.
You didn’t have to make the choice. Of either/or.”

David Ayer believes ‘The Beekeeper’ emulates action classics

OHMYGOSSIP — David Ayer thinks there are similarities between ‘The Beekeeper’ and classic action movies such as ‘Die Hard’.
The 55-year-old filmmaker has helmed the new action thriller that stars Jason Statham as Adam Clay, a man living a quiet life as a beekeeper who embarks on a deadly vengeance mission, and explained that the picture has the feel of iconic 1980s films from the genre.
Asked how he got involved in the project, David told Collider: “I got this amazing script from Kurt Wimmer, and Kurt got Jason involved, and I’ve always been interested in working with Jason. I just saw so much potential and ability in him as an actor.
“And then here this script comes along, and it just felt like the movies I liked growing up, like ’48 Hrs.’, ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ or ‘Die Hard’. Just that passion and sensibility, which is really, really hard to write and really hard to structure and really hard to pull off.
“People have no idea how hard it is. So when a script comes along that has those ingredients and has that magic built in, you have to dive on it.”
David also had gushing praise for the movie’s supporting cast and described how getting the chance to work with talented actors is one of the main reasons he gets behind the camera.
The ‘Suicide Squad’ director said: “For me as a director, I love actors. That’s why I became a director, because I wanted to work with actors. They’re doing the real work, and they’re so much more creative in design.
“I can’t be in front of that camera. And so, you wanna work with the best actors possible, and it was kind of a miracle to get this cast.”
Ayer continued: “I mean, I’m shooting Minnie Driver, and she’s so amazing and has such a presence and such credibility you believe she’d be running the CIA. And it’s creating that sense of reality. Jemma Redgrave, who plays the president – incredible.
“Then obviously Jeremy Irons is gonna read the phone book and it’s gonna be (amazing). It’s like a basketball team, you want the best players you can get.”

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan reunite for new movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are reuniting for a new top secret project.
The filmmaker and actor previously collaborated on Coogler’s 2013 directorial debut ‘Fruitvale Station’, 2015 ‘Rocky’ spin-off ‘Creed’ and the ‘Black Panther’ MCU movies, and now they are set to work together again on what is believed to be Coogler’s next film.
The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Coogler, 37, has a new script ready to go – the first he has penned under the banner of his new production company, Proximity Media – that is based on an original idea, and Coogler has turned to Jordan, 36, to be his leading man once again.
The project is being described as a genre feature, meaning that it will could be a horror, thriller or science-fiction story, and it is rumoured to have a period element.
Last week, studio executives and buyers went to the Beverly Hills offices of WME, the agency that represents Coogler and Jordan, to view the script and be informed about plot details by Coogler.
Meanwhile, Jordan is set to continue his story as heavyweight champion boxer Adonis Creed – the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s most famous opponent – in a fourth ‘Creed’ film.
The Hollywood star made his directorial debut on 2023’s ‘Creed III’, which was the first film in the ‘Rocky’ series not to feature creator Sylvester Stallone as heroic fighter Rocky Balboa.
