OHMYGOSSIP — Dax Shepard is “super pro sex”.
The 44-year-old actor has said that although he doesn’t want his two daughters – Lincoln, five, and Delta, four, whom he has with his wife Kristen Bell – to grow up thinking they have to have sex to “gain status”, he has no problem with them enjoying themselves for the right reasons.
Speaking whilst he interviewed Gwyneth Paltrow for his ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, he said: “It’s funny because I tell myself I have a narrative I’m spinning about how I’m going to be as a father of two daughters. Currently, I’m of the opinion, I’m super pro sex. I am anti having sex to get approval. I am anti having sex to get someone to like you or to gain status in a social circle but if my daughters are horny and they have decided they want to have sex, I am very pro sex.”
And Gwyneth – who has Apple, 14, and Moses, 12, with her ex-husband Chris Martin – agreed with the ‘CHiPs’ star, praising him for his “thoughtful” approach to parenting.
She told him: “You’re a really thoughtful father. I’m always so impressed with how intentional you are of your parenting.”
During the podcast, Dax also revealed he lost his virginity when he was just 12 years old.
He said: “I lost my virginity intentionally to ‘Love My Way’ by The Psychedelic Furs in the basement of my house. Luckily, we got right to the action and I did not make it to the chorus and then I was just very confused. I was terribly young. I was in seventh grade and she was in ninth grade so I was 12 or 13. I was also 5′ 11″. I was ready to do it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Candice Swanepoel has a “mommy chat” with her fellow model friends.
The 30-year-old model has Anaca, two, and Ariel, eight months, with her husband Hermann Nicoli, and has said she and her model pals Behati Prinsloo and Lily Aldridge have a group chat where they talk about their children and discuss the best baby products.
She said: “Behati [Prinsloo], Lily [Aldridge], we all … have our mommy chat. Like, ‘Did you use this product?’ It helps.”
Behati is mother to Dusty Rose, two, and Gio, 13 months, whom she has with her husband Adam Levine, whilst Lily has Dixie, six, and newborn son Winston, who was born last month, with her spouse Caleb Followill.
And Candice says she also likes to spend time with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, especially if it means they can get the children together – though their meet-ups don’t happen often.
Speaking about Rosie – who has 20-month-old son Jack with Jason Statham – the blonde beauty said: “She lives [in Los Angeles], and I live in New York. I don’t come to L.A. that often and it’s really hard to travel with little ones. But yeah, when we are together, we try to get the babies together too.”
Right now, Candice is too busy to make much time for her personal life, including date nights with her 36-year-old spouse.
She said: “Date nights don’t exist. Date night is with my two little men. There will be a time where mama will be out again.”
And when she has the time, the model tries to squeeze in some “calming” yoga.
Speaking to Us Weekly magazine, she said: “Yoga is really good … for me because it also helps with centring myself and calming. New York is a pretty crazy city to be in, so I need that and then I’ve had this trainer for many years, so sometimes he comes over and I do some weights and other things. But because I’ve been working out for so many years it like, my body snaps [and] … reacts pretty quickly.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Judd’s cat Murphy has died.
The 33-year-old musician is mourning the loss of beloved pet pussy Murphy after he passed away recently, and has taken to social media to express his sadness at saying goodbye to his moggy friend.
Posting a picture of the cat on Instagram, the McFly drummer wrote: “RIP beautiful Murphy @mrs_izzyjudd was so brave yesterday by doing the right thing for her precious boy. He has been with us for most of our relationship and has always been with Izzy when I’ve been away a lot over the years touring. He will be sorely missed. The second photo is one of our first and last together (sic)”
Harry’s wife Izzy Judd – with whom he shares daughter Lola, three, and son Kit, 18 months – also took to her own Instagram account to pay tribute to Murphy, as she revealed the cat had helped her cope with the devastating loss she felt when she miscarried.
In a lengthy tribute, she wrote: Goodbye my beautiful Murphy, I’m heartbroken. The sunlight shone over you this morning… it was your time to sleep with the angels
“Loss is always wanting one more time…

Last week, Izzy revealed Murphy was at the vets and wasn’t “doing well”, and hinted he may have to be put down.
She wrote at the time: “Putting on a brave face but inside my heart is breaking… went to visit Murphy at the vets as he is on fluids to see if it might perk him up and turn a corner but he’s not doing well. I think we’re in for a tough couple of days and some difficult decisions. Can’t sleep thinking about him, I just feel so sad but don’t want to watch him suffer. Hoping for a miracle (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow wanted to “reinvent” divorce when she split from Chris Martin in 2014.
The 46-year-old actress and the Coldplay frontman – who have daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12, together – famously dubbed their break-up as a “conscious uncoupling”, and Gwyneth has now said the phrase was coined as a way to try and skip past the pain of divorce and move straight to a place where she could be friends with the singer.
She said: “I just thought, ‘I wonder if there’s a way to circumvent that and just go directly to the point where we’re friends.’ We’re family, that’s it. We can pretend we’re not, and hate each other … or, let’s try to reinvent this for ourselves.”
The ‘Iron Man’ actress then received backlash online for her choice of words, and she says the criticism impacted her negatively because she was already “in a lot of pain” from the split itself.
Gwyneth added during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Podcast’: “I was in a lot of pain. It was so difficult. It felt like such a failure to me. It was so hard and I was so worried about my kids. Then there was this whole other layer of the world turning on us.
“Sometimes I’ve said things and it’s been too early in the culture, or whatever. [I may have] triggered a lot of people who were the sons and daughters of acrimonious divorces, or people in the middle of acrimonious divorces.”
But despite the backlash, the former couple seem to have stayed true to their promise to remain close, as Gwyneth recently invited the ‘Yellow’ hitmaker and their children to join her on her honeymoon with new husband Brad Falchuck.
In January, she explained: “We just took our honeymoon in the Maldives and we had a big family honeymoon over Christmas.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Selma Blair’s home gives her “vitality”.
The 46-year-old actress lives in a four-bedroom house in Los Angeles’ Fryman Canyon, and after she teamed up with friend and designer Bryan Work to add bright colour to the rooms, she found her home began to give her a new lease of life.
She said: “Before, it was just a very traditional house, and it was perfectly fine. But I always felt the character was missing.
“When we added the bold colour in these little spaces, it came alive. Now the whole house has a sense of humour, and it gives me some vitality.”
And the ‘Cruel Intentions’ star says she’s pleased she was able to freshen up the house instead of tearing it down and starting from scratch.
She added to Architectural Digest: “I love my funny little house. I’m glad it’s not a teardown. We gave it new life.”
Selma’s revitalising home comes after she revealed last year she has been diagnosed with MS – which affects the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body – and recently said she was trying to appreciate every moment in her life following the news.
She said: “A beautiful summer night in Miami. My flare was already hitting. I didn’t know what was happening. But I sat outside and had a gorgeous dinner with my dear friend.
“All we have is right now. This. Is the past. But I remember knowing to just feel the warmth in the breeze. The gift of this trip.
“Under the table my leg was dead. I couldn’t stay awake and my right hand couldn’t find my mouth. But I was happy. My son is asleep next to me. I hear his breathing.

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson says love is the “search for understanding”.
The 48-year-old actress has commented on polarising political opinions, saying that people with different views are not “listening” to one another, as she insists that the key to uniting people is to understand differing opinions.
Speaking to People magazine, she said: “We don’t have opposite sides of the table try to sit down and figure it out, all we have are attacks, and people [saying] ‘You said, you did’, blah blah blah. No-one’s listening. And love, when you really talk about love, it’s the search for understanding.”
The ‘Empire’ star has long been an advocate for equality, and recently called for more opportunities for women and people of colour whilst giving a speech as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
She said: “I fight for roles that will break through glass ceilings so that these young women coming behind me, they won’t have the same narrative that we have.
“We can’t drop the torch now, ladies out there, anybody in the industry, but we also need our men.
“That’s why I love men, I protect them because we need each other. We can’t bash each other, we have to reach across the table and help each other.”
Taraji – who is engaged to retired American football cornerback Kelvin Hayden – was also recently asked to imagine a world without sexism, in which she believes she would earn a lot more money.
The ‘What Men Want’ actress said: “I would probably be a billionaire by now. I’d have more zeros in my bank account, for sure.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Busted will headline Hampton Court Palace Festival.
The pop punk trio – comprised of Charlie Simpson, Matt Willis and James Bourne – will make their debut at the royal landmark’s summer concert series on June 8.
The ‘Year 3000’ hitmakers recently reached number two in the Official UK Chart with their LP ‘Half Way There’, and they plan to perform some songs from the record as well as their greatest hits, which include ‘What I Go To School For’ and ‘Air Hostess’, on the night.
The final headline announcement comes after Michael Ball & Alfie Boe were confirmed to perform on the last night of the festival.
The classical duo will round off an impressive month of music at the palace in June, which sees the likes of Nile Rodgers & Chic, Kylie Minogue, The Jacksons and Tears For Fears perform, on June 22.
The pair – who were named Best Group at the 2018 Classic BRIT Awards, and have had two number one albums to their name – last played the idyllic Palace Gardens in 2017.
Nile Rodgers and his band recently added a second show at the extravaganza due to demand.
The ‘Le Freak’ hitmakers – who released their first album in 25 years, ‘It’s About Time’, in September – sold out their first date on June 14, and will play a second concert at the 3,000 capacity Base Court – one of the Tudor courtyards in the stunning grounds of the historical landmark – on June 15.
Caro Emerald will play the festival on June 12, jazz star Jools Holland performs on June 6, new-wave pioneers Tears For Fears on June 18 and 19, and pop legends The Jacksons on June 7.
Kylie will headline on June 20 and 21, for what will be the Australian pop princess’ only London dates of the summer.
The finale night will also see a fireworks spectacular over the palace.

OHMYGOSSIP — Travis Scott is inspired by Kid Cudi.
The ‘SICKO MODE’ hitmaker has branded the 35-year-old rapper as one of his “idols”, as he also revealed he takes inspiration from the likes of Pete Rock and Pharrell as well as Kanye West, who is the husband of Travis’ partner Kylie Jenner’s half sister Kim Kardashian.
Travis shared: “One of my idols is Kid Cudi and the way he tells his stories about how he felt as a kid growing up, like where he’s from. I related to that. I adopted my own form of storytelling – whether it’s through melodies or through raps or both. And as a producer too, just studying other fire producers – Pete Rock, Kanye, Pharrell – I was always into mixing different genres. I wasn’t stuck solely in one field.”
And Travis hopes to inspire his fans with his music.
He added to Playboy’s Spring 2019 #TheSpeechIssue: “When I started, I never thought I could do arenas and be so big that so many people would come listen to the music and know the words. I think what makes a great artist is just the people you touch. Are they moving to your music? Are they living their life to it? Are they rocking with it or feeling inspired by it, or is it helping them get through something?”
Travis released his album ‘Astroworld’ last August and admitted at the time that he couldn’t wait to get something out but wanted it to be perfect.
He shared: “People have been waiting so long man, but with albums I just feel like there’s no need to rush. I just want to feel comfortable, I just want to feel happy myself once it’s finished.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Fowler wants to install a memorial plaque to Mike Thalassitis at the gym they used to work in.
The ‘Love Island’ contestant – who says he was inspired to enter the dating show following his friend’s appearance the year before – wants to have a permanent memory of Mike at their old place of work, following his tragic death last week.
He said: “Mike was a lovely guy, very down to earth, very humble, liked to party, girls dropping at his feet, he was young and had this fame but without the right guidance, like anyone, something tragic can happen and unfortunately it has.”
And Jack admits his life, too, changed when he left the ITV2 dating show, which has singletons move into a villa in sunny Spain in the hopes of finding love in the sun.
He added to The Sun Online: “It is such a difference in life, this time 12 months ago I was working as a personal trainer. I had something like 3000 followers on Instagram, I thought that was a lot, now my name is known nationwide, there is a lot more pressure, more of a following and more of an expectation. People sometimes don’t deal with that in the right way and they can go off the rails. You are exposed to more partying, more alcohol. It takes a certain mindset to say ‘that is not me’. You need someone there to guide you.”
Mike tragically passed away on Friday (15.03.19) in a woodland near his home in Essex.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sandi Toksvig had to step in for Big Narstie after he called in sick on ‘Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer’.
Tuesday night’s (19.03.19) charity episode of the Channel 4 show sees the programme’s co-host replace the rapper, with Noel Fielding joking that it’s a “seamless swap”, as he brands his colleague “Little Narstie”.
He says at the start of the programme: “There has been a development overnight.
“Unfortunately, Big Narstie can’t be with us today as he’s a little bit unwell, but he will be replaced by another baker. It’s a seamless swap, don’t worry.”
Sandi then admits she hasn’t baked a cake since school, quipping: “I haven’t cooked a sponge since domestic science O-level.”
The ‘QI’ star goes head-to-head with Johnny Vegas, Olympian Katarina Johnson-Thompson and MP Jess Phillips.
However, it doesn’t go as badly as she anticipates, as she shares: “The thing that I really learnt today was to throw yourselves into it, give it a go, raise some money for Stand Up To Cancer and you have a lovely end product as well.”
Michelle Keegan won last week’s ‘Celebrity Bake Off’.
The ‘Our Girl’ actress was named Star Baker ahead of Russell Tovey, Rylan Clark-Neal and James Acaster after impressing judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with her minty flapjacks in the signature challenge, winning the technical with her French Horn and presenting a ski-themed meringue for her showstopper.
Michelle’s meringue featured a tiny half skier buried in the show and was hailed by Paul as “faultless”.
The 31-year-old actress – who is married to Mark Wright – described her win as a “proud moment”.
She said: “Really big achievement. Probably one of the proudest moments of my life.”
The judges were very impressed by her prowess in the kitchen.
Prue said: “She hasn’t put a foot wrong. Everything has tasted right, looked fantastic. She’s a pro.”
By contrast, comic James flopped in every challenge and admitted he hadn’t enjoyed taking part, branding it the “worst experience” of his life.
And he quipped after the results were in: “What a crock of nonsense. They don’t recognise a true talent when the see one.”
Rylan won praise from the judges and though he didn’t win, he didn’t mind because he’d had an “amazing” time in the famous tent.
He tweeted: “Well done @michkeegan you absolute star. So amazing to work with @russelltovey and @JamesAcaster .
“I’m now officially a little bit obsessed with James and I just want to look after him. Thanks @BritishBakeOff for an amazing time and get donating to @SU2CUK x (sic)”
Last week, Russell Brand was named Star Baker in the first episode of the celebrity series, partly due to his cake honouring his wife Laura Gallacher giving birth to their two daughters.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande remembered her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller as she kicked off her ‘sweetener’ world tour in New York.
The ‘god is a woman’ hitmaker chose to include one of the late rapper’s song in the playlist of music before the show opened as well as starting her show with her track ‘Raindrops’, which is said to be about Mac.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “Ariana grande is playing Mac Miller right before her opening song for sweetener tour rn and my heart can’t handle it SO MANY TEARS. (sic)”
Whilst another shared: “they’re playing mac while we wait for ariana (sic)”
The 25-year-old singer took to the stage in front of a packed crowd at the Times Union Centre in Albany, New York on Monday night (18.03.19), belting out her hit tracks including ‘break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored’, ‘bloodline’, ‘NASA’ and ‘7 rings’ as well as her older tracks such as ‘Break Free’, ‘Love Me Harder’ and ‘Dangerous Woman’.
‘One Last Time’ – which became a particular poignant song following the terrorist bombing at Ariana’s concert in Manchester, northern England nearly two years ago – also featured on the set list, whilst the brunette beauty closed the show with an energetic performance of ‘thank u, next’.
Sharing a video of the show on social media, Ariana captioned it: “i really dunno what to say yet. for now, thank you will suffice. a dream come true typeeaa night. i love you so much. thank you. (sic)”
In the footage, Ariana and her dancers can be seen performing a dance sequence to ‘7 rings’, as the crowd screamed the lyrics along with her.

OHMYGOSSIP — Blac Chyna wished ex Rob Kardashian a happy birthday as he celebrated his 32nd over the weekend.
The 30-year-old model and entrepreneur – who has two-year-old daughter Dream with Rob – took to social media to mark her ex-partner’s birthday on Sunday (17.03.19) with a simple message posted to her Instagram story.
Alongside a four leaf clover emoji and a love heart emoji, she wrote: “Happy birthday Rob.”
For the past few months, Rob and Chyna have been embroiled in a bitter custody battle as well as a second court case but they previously insisted they are putting their differences aside and “actively co-parenting” in the “best interests” of their little girl Dream.
Rob wrote on his official Twitter account: “Angela and I are both actively co-parenting and there are no pending or active custody cases.”
Whilst Chyna added in her own post: “Robert and I only concern is what’s in the best interest of our daughter that we both equally love. Additionally, Robert is a wonderful father to our Dreamy!”
A source also revealed: “They are on speaking terms, and they are working hard to have a better relationship to coparent Dream.”
Rob celebrated his birthday with family and friends over the weekend at a party organised by Dream herself.
Sharing clips of the do online, his sister Khloe Kardashian said: “Dreamy Dream wanted to throw her dad a special birthday party before she goes to see her mommy. OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba’s fiancee Sabrina Dhowre enjoyed a Bachelorette getaway with her girls in Utah’s Amangiri resort.
The 46-year-old actor popped the question to the model last February, and over the weekend she celebrated her forthcoming marriage to the ‘Luther’ star with nine of her close pals in their own apartment in the luxurious spot, where rooms start at £1,494 per night.
Alongside two pictures of Sabrina in a white robe and her girls in matching personalised rose-coloured satin dressing gowns with “Bride’s Squad” emblazoned on the back of them, Sabrina wrote on Instagram: “Had the most amazing weekend with the most amazing people. I love you all so much #idrina #archyourback missing @jdebruyne @gurppanesar (sic)”
She also posted a boomerang of them dancing as they crouched by the pool and captioned it with the bride emoji.
Sabrina’s pals made sure the bride-to-be had the time of her life with a private dinner and cake with “Future Mrs. Elba” iced onto it.
The next day saw them throw a traditional Bachelorette party, with ‘Bride’ balloons and a sign which read: “Pop the champagne she is changing her name.”
Sabrina shared the highlights on her Instagram Story, captioning one post: “You girls are the best.”
Other Bride-themed treats included engagement ring candy, heart-shaped cookies, chocolates and champagne bottles.
They also all got to keep a gift bag to remember the trip by – though Sabrina didn’t reveal what was inside the party bags.
Meanwhile, Idris previously admitted that proposing to his fiancee was “the most nerve-wracking thing” he’s ever done.
Whilst he was incredibly nervous throughout the whole exchange, he also made sure to make the proposal “pretty romantic”.
He said: “[Proposing] was the most nerve-wracking thing for me ever. But in terms of wanting to make someone feel super special and feel my love, that was pretty romantic for me.”
Idris was originally planning to propose to Sabrina last Valentine’s Day (14.02.18), but after realising “that was going to be problematic”, he decided to do it at a screening for his film ‘Yardie’, which he directed.
He said: “I was at a cast and crew screening and among people I loved. We had all worked so hard for this project so I was like I’m doing it right now, here, today.”
The ‘Thor’ star is planning on putting his own stamp on the nuptials by booking “19 DJs”.
Idris said: “It’s a special day, but we both have our own ideas. I want about 19 deejays. There have to be, c’mon!”
Sabrina is likely to succumb to his outlandish request, as the pair “have good chemistry” and “share common goals”.
When asked what makes his fiancee “the one”, Idris – who has children Isan, 17, and Winston, four, from previous relationships – said: “[We] have good chemistry. She makes me laugh and we share common goals. She makes me happy. She makes me celebrate my successes and when I’m not too sure about stuff, she makes me think.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Isaac Hempstead Wright had a “f***ing weird childhood” growing up on ‘Game of Thrones’.
The 19-year-old actor shot to fame in 2011, after landing the role of Bran Stark on the hit HBO series, which earned him a Young Artist Award nomination as Best Young Supporting Actor in a TV Series.
Despite having a far from normal upbringing on the programme, Isaac has admitted that the role made him grow up quickly.
He told the latest issue of Rollercoaster Magazine: “Looking back retrospectively, I can just see how f**king weird my childhood’s been.
“It’s literally my adolescence! I’ve become a man on Thrones.”
The ‘Close Circuit’ actor also admitted that it was like “losing a very, very good friend” whenever a character would die on the show, especially when Kristian Narin’s alter-ego Hodor was killed by wights, giving time for Bran (Isaac) to flee.
He said: “It’s devastating! You’re spending a huge amount of time in close proximity with these people so they are hugely close and important to you.
“When you lost one of them, it’s really like losing a very, very good friend.
“I found that especially with Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor. Losing him was a really sad thing.”
Isaac says that ‘GoT’ could last forever, but he believes it would be doing the show a disservice to continue because it’s “so unique and televisually unparalleled”.
He also described the final season, which starts on April 14, as “the absolute pinnacle” ‘Game of Thrones’.
He admitted: “I truly believe we’ve created something so unique and televisually unparalleled that it would be sacrilege if we tried to do another season.
“This is the absolute pinnacle of ‘Thrones’, and that’s the thing.
“It’s a story, and stories have their conclusions.
“We could do 10 more seasons of this and people would watch it and everyone would make loads of money, but it’s time for the story to end.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Florence Pugh is reportedly in talks to join the standalone ‘Black Widow’ movie.
The ‘Little Women’ actress is the latest name attached to the Marvel film after Emma Watson was recently rumoured for an unknown part.
According to Variety, the 23-year-old British star impressed Marvel Studios with her performance as Saraya Knight in comedy-drama ‘Fighting With My Family’.
While it’s not yet known who she will portray, It’s reported that Florence will take the second lead.
It’s also not clear whether Emma and Florence are in contention for the same character or separate roles.
The blockbuster focuses on Scarlett Johansson as she reprises her role as SHIELD spy Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow.
Although few details about the movie have been released, ‘Harry Potter’ actress Emma’s potential part was recently described as a “kick-ass female [James] Bond”, and Marvel is said to be seeking an actress able to cope with a physically demanding role who also “feels similar” to 34-year-old Scarlett.
Scarlett – who has starred as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010 when she made her debut in ‘Iron Man 2’ – is set to earn $15 million for the film and has reportedly been handed the same deal that was previously given to Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth for appearing in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, respectively.
Scarlett first appeared as the Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’, which also starred Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The character has since gained significant popularity among fans and rumours about a standalone movie have been swirling for years.
Scarlett previously admitted she hopes the ‘Black Widow’ film will be a “groundbreaking” story in the MCU.
She explained: “The only way to do it would be if it were something that we’ve never seen before that was really groundbreaking and incredibly bad ass. I think if anyone could make that happen my boss Kevin Feige could. He’s a visionary.”
Scarlett explained that because of her character’s traumatic past, there’s plenty of scope to develop a compelling storyline.
She said: “I think it could be something really special.
“There’s a lot of room there. The character has a tortured past, she’s had to make a lot of difficult decisions. She has a lot of trauma. She’s got issues. There’s room to work them all out.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o felt a “pressure” starring in ‘Us’.
The 36-year-old actress admits she was nervous about starring in the Jordan Peele directed horror film, which follows the story of a family faced with their worst nightmare when they return to the mother’s childhood home.
She said: “Of course it dawned on me that I’m going to be the lead in [Jordan Peele’s] sophomore film – all eyes are on him; his eyes are on me. There’s a level of pressure that I experienced. I had a reverence for him, and I realised that reverence kills creativity. I had to work my way out of that to a place of respect so that I could respect myself enough to offer my talent and trust myself enough to contribute to his vision, rather than being dwarfed by it.”
And Nyong’o likes how this movie features a black family as the central characters but race isn’t the “monster” in the film.
She added: “With ‘Get Out’, I can only imagine there’s been an expectation that [Peele’s] films would continue to investigate the race paradigm but in Us, race is not the monster. It’s not the subject. Being black is unremarkable, it’s the norm. The remarkable thing is having a black family at the centre of a film in the horror genre but as far as the story goes their blackness is not in question. This is a family going through an extraordinary set of circumstances and there is a familiarity that goes beyond the paradigms of race to something more universal and relatable to everyone.”
Nyong’o was excited to “experiment” with the horror movie genre.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “For me, I’ve been interested in horror, just as an experiment. I want to be able to experience all things cinematic. But the definite pull was Jordan Peele. If he wants to put me in every one of his movies, the answer is yes. I would work with him again at the drop of a hat.”
