Michael Bublé’s career is second to family

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Bublé’s family will always come before his career.
The 43-year-old singer was dealt a tragic blow when his five-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and although now he is in remission, the whole ordeal has taught Michael to appreciate family more.
He said: “I don’t even think about my career. It is zero on the scale of things to care about. It’s going to sound sloppy, but I remember sitting there and thinking, ‘Why the f**k am I worried about all this s**t?
“That’s what I was worried about? What people thought of me, or the numbers of something? That’s c**p. That doesn’t matter. It allows you to enjoy the little things in life and not be so f***ing busy worrying how many likes you got, or how much money you made, stuff that makes you go, ‘Oh God, what was I thinking about?'”
And the ‘Everything’ hitmaker credits his family – wife Luisana Lopilato and their kids Noah, Elias, three, and Vida, seven months – with giving him an “armour”.
He added: “My concept, if you want to get deeper into this, is that I needed people to understand that my family and the love they gave me, that they gave me the armour that I wear. Through my whole life and my career no matter how fancy or big the success was … no matter how nice the suits got or the watch got, underneath it all was the armour that my family had placed on me.”
Michael now makes a point of spending three weeks on tour and then back home for two weeks and repeating the cycle and whilst he knows it is “the most financially irresponsible way to tour”, it is the best way for him.
He told USA Today: “It’s literally the most financially irresponsible way to tour because it’s much better to go off for longer periods of time and keep everybody out there and keep the gear and the crew. But that doesn’t matter to me. This is the best of both worlds. I can’t go out there and be happy if I’m not with the family. And what’s really nice is they’re coming with me on this tour.”

Armie Hammer’s Google alert

OHMYGOSSIP — Armie Hammer used to have a Google alert set up for himself.
The ‘Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ star has confessed he used to read about himself online but he stopped after it gave him anxiety.
Asked if he still has the feature enabled, he told Vulture magazine: “No, no, no. That’s part of the healthy emotional boundaries. I feel like a lot of the things on the internet, like Twitter, are largely populated by the people that go on Yelp and write one-star reviews just to be like, ‘Fuck that place!’ I don’t want to take the brunt of that. I used to. Full disclosure, I used to have a Google alert for myself, and search myself on Twitter. It never gave me anything other than anxiety, so I was like, ‘Maybe it’s best to just not do this.’ If you don’t Google yourself, and you don’t know about something, it doesn’t exist at all.”
Armie previously admitted his career has been helped by “white privilege”.
He shared: “There are white people who exercise their white privilege with or without knowing it and I would be foolish to sit here and say, ‘Well, that has nothing to do with my career.’ I can’t sit here and say that.
“But also, people must be aware of the work ethic it takes. I get it. Guys like me have got a lot from being guys like me. Even if white privilege does have anything to do with it, there is a lot of work I put into this.”

Hollyoaks named Best Soap at RTS Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Hollyoaks’ won the Best Soap and Continuing Drama accolade at the 2019 Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards on Tuesday (19.03.19).
The Channel 4 series beat off competition from ‘Casualty’ and ‘Coronation Street’ to take the prestigious honour, with the judges saying they were “blown away” by the show.
The panel also said of the soap: “Well written, beautifully acted, it was bold and confident with terrific central performances.”
Accepting the honour at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, showrunner Bryan Kirkwood – who helmed the programme from 2006 until 2009 and returned in late 2012 – admitted he had been most proud of the work they have done over the last year.
He said: “We tell the boldest stories happening to our audience right now. We’re known for our stunts, we’re known for our romances, we’re known for our cast but in the last couple of years I think we’ve really started to be recognised for our hard-hitting storylines.
“The other soaps have had a great year as well, but this is the year I’m proudest of us.”
And joined by a number of cast members, the executive producer singled out the abuse of Ollie Morgan (Aedan Duckworth) and Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) at the hands of football coach Buster Smith (Nathan Sussex) as one of their “best ever” storylines.
He added: “I think the footballer abuse story featuring Aedan and Lysette (Anthony) has been one of our best ever.”
Other big winners at the ceremony included ‘Mum’, ‘Save Me’ – which both scooped two prizes – ‘Derry Girls’, ‘Inside No. 9’, ‘Killing Eve’ and ‘The Last Leg’.

MPs claim EastEnders being ‘outperformed by soap rivals’

OHMYGOSSIP — MPs have claimed ‘EastEnders’ is being “outperformed by its soap rivals”.
The BBC have come under fire for plans to spend £87 million – £27 million more than the initial budget – on a set rebuild for their flagship soap, and while the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) admits it is “important” that the E20 project is completed to help improve the show, a new government report published today (20.03.19) claims the revamp has been “managed badly”.
The PAC said: “Despite considering it crucial to the future success of ‘EastEnders’, the BBC has managed its E20 project badly.
“‘EastEnders’ is a flagship programme for the BBC but is being outperformed by its soap rivals, such as ‘Coronation Street’, and its overall audience has reduced as fewer people watch traditional linear TV.
“Therefore, it is important for ‘EastEnders’ that the BBC completes E20 so that the programme is best placed to not only succeed but to also secure its long-term future.
“However, since we last heard about a 26-month delay to the project in 2016, it has gone off-track again.
“The project is now set to cost £87 million – £27 million more than initially budgeted – and complete in May 2023, nearly five years later than originally planned in 2013.”
While the PAC admitted the E20 costs had increased partly due to inflation in the construction industry, they also claimed the BBC approached the project with “apparent complacency”.
PAC chair Meg Hillier said: “The BBC made fundamental mistakes in planning and delivering E20, at significant extra cost to licence fee payers.
“The apparent complacency with which the BBC approached the project is entirely at odds with EastEnders’ strategic importance to the Corporation.
“It was a serious error at the outset not to consider exactly what skills would be needed to see E20 through. The resulting shortfall in key expertise set the tone for much of what followed.
“The revised completion date for E20 is still more than four years away and, as work continues, the BBC must demonstrate it now has a firm grip on the project’s costs and progress.”
In December, the National Audit Office (NAO) claimed in a report, ‘E20: renewing the EastEnders set’, that the project will not deliver “value for money”.
A section of the report stated: “The BBC built the external filming set for EastEnders (including ‘Albert Square’) in 1984, and originally planned to use it for two years.
“It has lasted for 34 years but is no longer fit for purpose.
“There are, for example, filming delays and maintenance costs as a result of stoppages in production due to health and safety concerns.
“The BBC will not be able to deliver value for money on the E20 programme in the way that it envisaged in 2015.”

Warwick Davis attends Gringotts reveal at Harry Potter studio tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Warwick Davis is delighted that Gringotts Wizarding Bank is part of Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of ‘Harry Potter’.
The 49-year-old actor played both Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook in the film franchise, and it was in the latter role as the goblin bankteller that he spent “a lot of time” in the impressive interior.
Speaking at the reveal of the original Gringotts Wizarding Bank at Warner Bros Studio Tour London, he said: “It’s so exciting to be back inside Gringotts Wizarding Bank after so many years.
“I spent a lot of time here as Griphook and it’s great to see the Studio Tour bring the original set back to life.
“I know visitors will love discovering the details of the goblin prosthetics and the Lestrange vault for themselves and there are more exciting additions to be revealed.”
The new addition to the magical studio tour – which opens to the public on April 6 – proved popular with Warwick and his former co-stars James and Oliver Phelps, who played twins Fred and George Weasley on the big screen.
Starting with the grand banking hall – lined with marble pillars and decorated with three crystal chandeliers – the new set is another fantastic chance to step into the world of ‘Harry Potter’.
From set design and prosthetics to concept art and prop making, the new area – which also features the Lestrange Vault – will give visitors an exciting insight into the goblin-run bank, which is the Studio Tour’s biggest addition to date.

Fleetwood Mac was ‘too challenging’ to keep Lindsey Buckingham

OHMYGOSSIP — Mick Fleetwood has admitted it became “too challenging” to have both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham continue in Fleetwood Mac.
Singer Lindsey left the group in acrimonious circumstances last year, reportedly after reigniting his feud with his former lover when he stood “smirking” behind her when she gave a speech at a MusiCares benefit show.
And now his former bandmate Mick has admitted a “parting of company” was needed in order to preserve the future of the ‘Go Your Own Way’ hitmakers.
Mick said:” We were not happy. It is no secret that Lindsey and Stevie are in a continuum Liz Taylor/ Richard Burton type of life, and it went in and out of valleys and mountaintops and God knows what through the years – that support really could not be given to ask the situation to continue. It was too challenging.
“Someone in some interview said, ‘What’d you do, fire him?’ You can say that if you want but I think that’s an ugly word, knowing what this man has done in the ranks of Fleetwood Mac…
“The truth is, call it what you want, a parting of company took place, and it had to take place, and it was supported by the remaining band members around something that for sure was a major problem to two people – Lindsey and Stevie.”
And keyboardist Christine McVie admitted she felt the band would have to “completely break up” if Lindsey hadn’t been let go.
She told MOJO magazine: “For whatever reasons, a lot being personal, it was the only route we could take, because there was too much animosity between certain members of the band at that point, there was just no way it could’ve gone on as a five-piece, a group with Lindsey in the band. So it was either just completely break up the band or make the best of it.”
While the musician admitted it was a “really bad time”, particularly because she had no problems with Lindsey, she praised Mick for his action, and the decision to bring in Mike Campbell and Neil Finn as replacements.
She added: “Mick is the grandaddy of the band. And he lives to make it survive.
“And he has a way of finding the right people at the right time. It was Mike Campbell and Neil Finn – they fit the bill absolutely perfectly.
“But it was a really bad time, I had no bones to pick with Lindsey, I loved working with him but I did see the point and I did see what the problem was.
“And you know, we’re a democracy and we have to kind of make the best of a bad job. As it turns out, what we have now is better than what we ever had before.”

Wade Robson won’t listen to Michael Jackson music anymore

OHMYGOSSIP — Wade Robson has no “moral authority” to decide whether people should stop listening to Michael Jackson in the wake of the ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary.
The 36-year-old dancer appears in the documentary alongside James Safechuck and they have both accused the late singer of sexually abusing them after befriending them when they were children, but whilst Wade has stopped listening to Michael’s music, he doesn’t think he should decided if other people do or not.
Speaking to TMZ, he said: “I don’t have any moral authority to make a judgement for everyone else on that. I don’t listen to his music because I have a personal experience with it. But that’s everyone’s individual choice. [I hope the documentary] will question in general who it is that we’re worshipping and why.”
It comes after Taj Jackson admits his uncle Michael would have been left in tears over the allegations made against him in the ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary.
Defending Michael, the 45-year-old singer said: “I think it’s temporary in terms of the stain. First of all I believe the truth will come out. It might take some time. There’s been cases when someone has been labelled something and then 10 years later you find out the truth … He would’ve said, ‘No, not Wade, please not Wade’. But it’s happened to him before, people betraying him. People that we thought were stand-up people have stolen from him, have sold stories on him … They can say it’s not about money but they are up for appeal and I think if they can get enough backlash or public opinion they’re in a good position.”
The Michael Jackson estate has denied the allegations and has branded both accusers “perjurers” and “admitted liars”.

MTV pulls Ex on the Beach series after Mike Thalassitis’ death

OHMYGOSSIP — MTV has pulled the 10th season of ‘Ex on the Beach’ following Mike Thalassitis’ death.
The reality star – whose body was found in woodland near his Essex home on Friday (15.03.19) – had filmed scenes for the dating show back in September, but in the wake of his tragic death the channel has decided to pull the entire season, and insisted their thoughts were with his family and friends.
An MTV spokesperson said in a statement: “We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of ‘Ex on the Beach’, which was due to air on MTV later in the year.
“In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned 10th season of the show.”
Mike, who passed away at the age of 26, dated fellow reality star Megan McKenna for seven months following his stint on ‘Love Island’ and went on to star in ‘Celebs Go Dating’ last year.
Megan, 26, broke her social media silence since his passing on Tuesday (19.03.19), admitting she is still “trying to come to terms” with his death.
She wrote on Instagram: “Sorry I haven’t been on social media but I’m in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this.
“I can’t believe I’m even writing this post.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family. Rest in peace Mike. X (sic)”
Megan’s comments come after several former ‘Love Island’ stars took to social media to pay tribute to Mike, including Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies, who won the 2017 series which Mike competed in.
Alongside a broken heart emoji, Kem wrote: “Such heartbreaking news. My thoughts go out to all of Mikes friends and family (sic)”
In her own post, Amber added: “I am in utter shock. @MikeThalassitis you were one of the most genuine guy! I just can’t believe this! You’ll be missed so much you have no idea (sic)”

Cardi B to make film debut in Hustlers

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B is set to make her film debut in ‘Hustlers’.
The 26-year-old rapper has joined the cast of the upcoming adaptation of the New York magazine article ‘Hustlers at Scores’ alongside Julia Stiles,Keke Palmer, and Lili Reinhart.
The film from STX Entertainment – also starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu – takes place in the late 2000s in New York City in the wake of the financial crisis and will follow a group of former strippers who plot to steal tens of thousands of dollars from their wealthy Wall Street clients.
Lorene Scafaria will helm the project and penned the script based on the 2015 article by Jessica Pressler and shooting will begin in New York City later this week with former stripper Cardi playing one of the erotic dancers.
Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms, said in a statement: “We could not have asked for a more exciting or talented lineup of performers to join our cast.”
J.Lo previously admitted that in order to prepare for her role in the film she completely cut carbohydrates and sugars from her life which meant the 49-year-old singer and actress seriously craved her favourite foods during her 10-day diet.
She shared: “I’m getting ready for this movie called ‘Hustlers’ and I have to play a stripper, so I’m getting ready for that.
“I work out a lot, I try to stay healthy but [my trainer] was like ‘let’s do something to move the needle.'”
However, the ‘Jenny from the Block’ hitmaker was initially uncertain about the idea of cutting carbs and sugars from her diet.
She said: “That’s most of my diet. I was like ‘Completely? Like cold turkey?'”
Despite her initial reluctance, Jennifer successfully completed the challenge on January 31.

‘Dinosaur’ Matt Damon

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Damon is a “dinosaur”.
The ‘Jason Bourne’ actor rarely uses social media and admitted he and his wife Luciana Barroso – with whom he raises four children – have had a lot of conversations about how sites such as Twitter and Instagram could prove helpful in his endorsement of Water.org and Stella Artois’ ‘Pour it Forward’ campaign,
He said: “I’m a dinosaur.
“I’m looking at the impact of [social media] and it’s kind of undeniable. So yes, I think I will probably move into that realm somewhere down the line because it’s so hard for us to message around this.”
The 48-year-old actor has seen how powerful social media can be thanks to his friend Chris Hemsworth.
He added to E! News: “He is definitely in the middle of the social media world and I’ve been able to see up close because I’m with him all the time, the reach that he’s able to have. So definitely in terms of the work at Water.org, it’s definitely making it a hard case for me not to get on social media. I’ll grow up.”
The campaign aims to halt the global water crisis and Matt admitted his involvement has been a real “eye opener” because he doesn’t have personal experience of the situation.
He explained: “If you’re raising money for cancer awareness or AIDS awareness, we all have family or friends who have been affected by those things, whereas clean water is not something that we can really relate to. It’s not something that affects any of us or our friends so it’s been an eye opener for me.”
Anyone wanting to help the campaign can buy a Stella Artois chalice on their website, which helps provide five years of access to clean water for someone in the developing world.
Matt said: “You can go to the bar with your friends and by doing something really simple, you can have this profound impact on somebody’s life in the developing world. That’s just a really cool thing to come up with.”

Naya River’s theatrical son

OHMYGOSSIP — Naya Rivera’s son is a “little ham”.
The 32-year-old actress – who has three-year-old Josey with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey – thinks the youngster will follow in her footsteps when he’s older because he’s already very “theatrical”.
She said: “He’s theatrical in every way. He is definitely a little ham.”
And when Naya brought Josey to the set of ‘Step Up: High Water’, he was desperate to join her on camera.
She told E! News: “I was shooting and he was watching me in a scene and before we did the next take he goes, ‘I want to go to work with mommy! I want to go to work with you.’ I’m like, ‘You are at work with me!’ He goes, ‘no, in there,’ like in the scene.”
The actress shot to fame as Santana Lopez in ‘Glee’ and she admitted working on her YouTube series brought back a lot of memories from her former show.
She explained: “It definitely feels like home and feels like how much fun I had on ‘Glee’. Everyone is hilarious and is always just happy to be there and having a great time.”
And Naya joked she wishes her own school days had been a lot more like those she sees on screen and thinks that’s why she’s drawn to such shows.
She said: “Every time I’m on a show that has a school atmosphere, I’m, like, these schools are so great. I would’ve loved high school if I could go to these schools.
“So I guess that’s why I get to play characters that are in high schools because my high school experience was terrible.”

Paddy McGuinness wants Line of Duty role

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy McGuinness has become obsessed with binge watching ‘Line of Duty’ – and now wants a part in the drama.
The 45-year-old TV presenter – who is back on screens on Saturday night (23.03.19) with his own BBC One gameshow ‘Catchpoint’ – says he would “do anything” to land a role in the police corruption drama, including playing a “crack addict”.
He told the Series Linked Podcast: “I’m just on series three of ‘Line of Duty’. It must have been on for a few years now but I didn’t know a thing about it until two weeks ago. And I just did the bingeing, watching them all, one after the other.
“I really, really like acting. I think I could definitely do something in that. I’m basically such a fan of that show, I would do anything. If they want me to be a crack addict in a scene, I will be.”
Paddy also co-hosts the new series of ‘Top Gear’ alongside Freddie Flintoff, and the ‘Take Me Out’ presenter admits the offer to front the show “came from nowhere” because he has never harboured any ambitions to present the programme.
He said: “I think it’ll appeal to probably a slightly broader audience, the way we’ve done it. It won’t just be something where you have be a real petrolhead to get anything out of it.
“Even back in the day when Clarkson and Hammond and May did it, the most popular parts of the show were the trips they did abroad, which, really, had nothing to do with reviewing cars or anything like that, it was just a road trip.
“It’s just about striking the right balance really. It was a show I’ve always enjoyed. I watched it since I were a kid, absolutely no ambition at all to ever host it or get involved with it.
“Just like anyone else, I was just a fan of the show. Again, it came from nowhere really. I didn’t have to think about saying yes. It has been an absolute joy to do. I can’t wait to see it on telly.”

George Ezra admits Tamara songwriting trip paid off at London O2 show

OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra admitted he wondered “why the f**k” he went to Barcelona to write his second album ‘Staying at Tamara’s’ as he performed a sold-out show at The O2 in London on Tuesday night (19.03.19).
The 25-year-old singer/songwriter famously went to the Spanish city for a month after ending his tour for his debut LP ‘Wanted on Voyage’ to find inspiration to write his second record.
George stayed at an AirBnb apartment owned by a woman called Tamara who ended up providing the title for the album and although the decision ended up being a wise move providing him with a smash hit LP, George had doubts about his plan when he first got off the plane at the start of 2017.
Speaking to his fans from The O2 stage – which he designed to resemble a normal living room, complete with lampshades, house plants and a rug – he said: “It wasn’t until I landed that I thought, ‘Why the f**k have you done this George? And I found myself making my way across this town that I really didn’t know and I met my host who was a girl called Tamara. Tamara and her friends were musicians and artists and designers and they worked Monday to Friday and I wouldn’t see them, I’d be walking around the city and the place that I visited is called Barcelona and this song is called ‘Barcelona’.”
George was in the mood to share stories about his songs during his set and revealed his track ‘Pretty Shining People’ was inspired by a secret mountain garden he found during one of his walks around Barcelona.
Introducing the song, he said: “So I spent this month in Barcelona and I took a guitar and a notebook, I didn’t write any of the songs whilst I was there. But what I would do is I would take a note of everyone I met and everything I saw and everything I did and I wrote it down and when I got home that’s when I wrote the songs. About two days into my trip I found this mountain to the left of the city and halfway up this mountain was a public garden and I would go and spend my days sat in the garden looking back over the city watching the people coming and going and that particular inspired a song, and that song is called ‘Pretty Shining People’.”
George delighted his fans by playing several songs from his second LP, including ‘All My Love’, ‘Hold My Girl’ and ‘Get Away’, but he also dropped numerous tracks from ‘Wanted on Voyage’ such as ‘Blame It On Me’ and ‘Listen to the Man’ to huge cheers of approval.
After briefly exiting the stage following a rendition of a beautifully baritone-heavy ‘Budapest’, George returned for an encore of ‘Cassy O” and hit single ‘Shotgun’ which sparked a huge mass singalong.
George plays his second sold-out show at The O2 on Wednesday night (20.03.19).
George Ezra at The O2 London setlist:
‘Don’t Matter Now’
‘Get Away’
‘Barcelona’

Sam Fender writes as someone ‘who know nothing’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fender says he writes music as an “idiot who knows nothing”.
The ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ explained that while he does tell “real stories” on his upcoming debut album, he doesn’t try to sound like an “expert” on things he doesn’t know enough about.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures, he said: “I don’t try and speak about them like I am some kind of expert of politics. I’m a f***ing 22-year-old idiot who knows nothing.
“My songs come from that perspective. That’s what my album is going to be like. One of the lyrics is, ‘I’m not smart enough to change a thing’.
“It is genuinely just that feeling of disconnection with what is going on in the country at the moment, and in America as well. Youth everywhere feels very disconnected with politics. Almost to a point where you feel pretty hopeless. That is what a lot of my tunes are about.”
For his highly anticipated first full length record, Sam – who counts the Police legend Sting amongst his famous fans after he recently attended a show in Toronto – has written songs about everything – from “personal stuff to more worldly events”.
He is making good progress with work on the collection, and he admitted his youth means he has a real passion and hunger that he wants to keep inside him.
He added: “I am balls deep in this album. The driving force is the pure love for music.
“I have been hungry, starving for it since I was a f***ing kid, so I will maintain doing that. As long as I can do this for the rest of my life, that is me f***ing happy.”
