Danny DeVito loves the dark side of Disney movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito prefers the “dark” side of Disney movies.
The ‘Dumbo’ actor – who plays circus ringmaster Max Medici in the new live action remake of the 1941 animated classic about the titular flying elephant – admitted he always enjoyed the scarier moments in films like ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’.
Asked which Disney classic he wants to see rebooted for a modern audience, he told PEOPLE: “Well, ‘Pinocchio’. What I like in the Disney movies, I really dig it when the witch give [Snow White] the apple.
“So that’s my sensibility, I like that part of it, the dark part of it where you go, ‘Oh man, no, don’t eat that apple! This witch is gonna give her the apple, this sweet woman that I love, Snow White don’t do it! Or Cinderella get locked in the [tower]… I love those moments!”
And the 74-year-old star shrugged off the idea such scenes could be “too dark” for children watching, and pointed to the big screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’ – in which he starred as the lead character’s father Harry Wormwood – as an example of doing it the right way.
He explained: “The thing about it is, even in ‘Matilda’, people say it’s too dark – you need that edge for the kids. In movie making, you chase them up a tree, you shake a stick at them, and you let them down again.
“In movie’s like ‘Matilda’ or in ‘Dumbo’, you do that. You have to chase them up a tree but you give them a stepladder to get down so it’s easier to navigate it.”

Armie Hammer: Fans would be ‘disappointed’ by Call Me By Your Name sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Armie Hammer thinks he would “disappoint” fans with a ‘Call Me By Your Name’ sequel.
The 32-year-old actor – who plays Oliver in the flick – doesn’t know if they could ever do a sequel to the hit drama movie as he isn’t sure it would ever “match up” to the original.
He said: “No, the truth is, there have been really loose conversations about it, but at the end of the day – I’m sort of coming around to the idea that the first one was so special for everyone who made it, and so many people who watched it felt like it really touched them, or spoke to them. And it felt like a really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment. I don’t know that anything will match up to the first, you know?”
However, if his co-star Timothée Chalamet – who plays Elio – and director Luca Guadagnino were onboard, Armie thinks he would be “an a**hole” to say no.
Asked if his the rest of the team feel the same, he added: “I don’t know. I haven’t had that conversation with them explicitly. But I mean, look. If we end up with an incredible script, and Timmy’s in, and Luca’s in, I’d be an a**hole to say no. But at the same time, I’m like, That was such a special thing, why don’t we just leave that alone?”
And Armie has insisted a sequel was never “definitely going to happen” but people were too excited for them to say no.
He told Vulture magazine: “I’m not sure that it was ever really definitely going to happen. People just seemed so excited about it that we were like, ‘Oh, yeah, f**k it! We’ll do it, sure!'”

Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, Sofia said: “She told me this great story where she was on her way to the studio and didn’t know how to pronounce anything in Spanish.
“Her driver was Latin, so she took him to the studio and he was telling her how to pronounce everything. I thought that was the best story ever. It’s brilliant.”
Sofia explained that the song – which references the “bulls**t” in her life – has inspired by US president Donald Trump.
She added: “The world is kind of going in a weird place, that’s one thing I talk about in ‘R.I.P.’ There’s a point where I mention walls.”
Meanwhile, Rita recently revealed she can’t brush her teeth in the morning unless she has music on.
While revealing that she loves to sing in the shower during a Twitter Q&A, the star admitted that she can’t get start frothing up the toothpaste on her teeth until she has her favourite songs playing.
Speaking in a Twitter video, she said: “Do I sing in the shower? usually, I’m like rushing in the shower and I’m like in and out in and out – but I have to put on music in the mornings otherwise I can’t really like brush my teeth or anything.
“So yeah I do kind of sing in the shower and sometimes I do without knowing, I think it’s healthy I think everyone should sing in the shower.”

Jay-Z and The Killers for Woodstock 50 festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay-Z and Miley Cyrus are to perform at Woodstock 50 festival.
The ‘Empire State of Mind’ hitmaker is set to take to the stage at the event, which will take place at Watkins Glen in New York to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival.
The event will take place between August 16 and 18, with acts like The Killers, Chance The Rapper and Halsey also on the line up. To mark its 50th anniversary, some acts who played the first festival will also be making their return to the stage including Santana, whose performance of ‘Soul Sacrifice’ at the 1969 festival put them on the map.
And ‘Woodstock’s co-founder and co-producer Michael Lang is keen that this year’s festival is more than just a “concert”.
He shared to the New York Times: “Coachella’s got its thing, as does Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. But I think they’re all missing an opportunity to make a difference in the world. They’re all perfect places for social engagement and for fostering ideas, and I think that’s lost. We want this to be more than just coming to a concert. And hopefully a lot of the bands will become part of this effort to get people to stand up and make themselves heard, to get and out vote. And if they don’t have a candidate that represents their feelings, to find one – or to run themselves.”
The first ever Woodstock festival saw around 400,000 people sing along to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Janis Joplin. A further two festivals were held in 1994 and 1999 respectively.

Mikey North receives verbal abuse from Corrie viewers

OHMYGOSSIP — Mikey North says ‘Coronation Street’ viewers have been hurtling abuse at him in the street for portraying “bully” Gary Windass.
The 32-year-old actor admits it will take “some time” for him get used to the insults he has been receiving following his character’s recent bust-ups with Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni), which comes after he was targeted in 2008 when he first joined the show.
Mikey told Inside Soap magazine: “Since the recent episodes, where Gary’s kind of bullying Seb, it’s gone back to how it was when I started on the show and Gary is hated again – people are shouting at me on the streets!
“That side of him is always fun to play, but it’s going to take some time for me to get used to the abuse again, I think.”
The ‘Corrie’ actor is pleased to be involved in a ‘whodunit’ storyline after finding out Gary would be a suspect in this week’s Underworld factory roof collapse storyline.
He said: “It’s always quite nice to be involved in a ‘whodunit’, especially one as big as this. He is always quite suspicious, is our Gary.
“He has that look that implies he’s up to no good.
“It’s great as we only know so much in advance. I have a pile of scripts in my dressing room waiting for me now that are hopefully going to tell me what happens next.”
When asked if he would be up for taking part in reality television, Mikey claimed he would do anything but ‘Dancing On Ice’ as he is “no good” on the surface.
He said: “Anything but ‘Dancing on Ice’. I couldn’t do that if you paid me all the money in the world.
“Me on ice is not good at all. If they called it ‘Standing On Ice’, I’d still lose!”

The Vamps eye Chainsmokers collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vamps want to collaborate with The Chainsmokers.
The ‘Can We Dance’ hitmakers – which comprises of Bradley Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans – would love to work with the EDM duo and continue experimenting with their electronic sound.
Connor said: “We love to carry on doing collaborations and have a few lined up for the album. The Chainsmokers would obviously be great, and we have actually spoken to them a few times before. I really like that new song with 5 Seconds of Summer – it’s really cool.
“Even working with DJs now you can still keep your band sound, keep playing guitars, the bass, or whatever, and it still works, which is really great. We like to keep it fresh, we don’t want to keep doing the same thing, as you get bored, but at this point we just want to make the music that we like and hope that it works for the fans too.”
And the 23-year-old musician loves his band’s new track ‘All The Lies’, which is collaboration with DJs Alok and Felix Jaehn.
He added: “It’s a very dance-based track, and we are really excited. We did this tune, sent it to them and they liked it and re-produced it and stuff. It will be great live.”
Connor and his bandmates can’t wait to get out on their Four Corners Tour, which kicks off in Plymouth in April and sees them play 18 dates across the UK in both smaller venues and arenas.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “We are so excited, it will be like nothing we have done. Big guitar sounds but also that great live element.”

Gemma Collins ‘wanted for TOWIE cameo’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins is wanted by ‘The Only Way is Essex’ bosses to make a cameo in the reality show.
The 38-year-old TV personality is busy making her new ‘Diva’ TV series with Lime Pictures, and bosses of the hit ITVBe reality show – in which the bubbly star shot to fame – are hopeful she will make an appearance in the new season because she is such a big hit with fans.
A TV source told The Sun’s Bizarre TV column: “Producers are desperate to make Gemma’s cameo work, even though her schedule is packed and her mind is elsewhere.
“She couldn’t make the recent trip to Thailand but the film crew are hoping that now everyone is back on home turf they’ll be able to get a camera in front of her for at least a few scenes.”
The blonde is thought to have been in high demand since she recently appeared on ‘Dancing On Ice’, but may not be the only star who could make a return to the series.
James ‘Arg’ Argent – who has had an on/off relationship with Gemma – previously teased he wants to head back to the show after he was absent from the last season to deal with his demons.
He said: “So I had a bit of a break from ‘TOWIE’, I wasn’t in the last series. I had a bit of a difficult time over the summer and then the series was coming up and I didn’t really feel ready to film.
“Obviously I am the only original ‘TOWIE’ cast member remaining and obviously I’ve been there since day one. Lucky for me – and I appreciate it – all the love and support from ITV and Lime Pictures.
“What I’m told is the door is always open for me. So next year, there’s a good possibility I’ll go back on to ‘TOWIE’.”

Harry Redknapp inspires England legends to win in The Full English

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Redknapp helped a team of England football legends slim down and defeat a side made up of former Germany stars 4-2 in a match on TV show ‘Harry’s Heroes: The Full English’.
The two-part series came to a dramatic conclusion on Tuesday night (19.03.19) when the Three Lions team, featuring the likes of David Seaman, Paul Merson, Robbie Fowler and Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, beat their rivals in an inspired comeback, after shedding several pounds in a 12-week fitness programme.
Matt Le Tissier was the biggest loser during the series, offloading 10 kilos, earning him the captaincy for the big game, in which England came back from 2-1 down against a Germany side featuring Steffen Freund and Thomas Berthold.
Goals from Rob Lee, Paul Merson, and a Robbie Fowler brace did the damage at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road stadium.
As well as showing the players fighting the flab in a Spanish training camp and back on home soil, the show saw Merson open up about his gambling demons, admitting he is still “struggling badly” with life.
Speaking to the camera, the former Arsenal footballer said: “I’m struggling with life at the moment, struggling badly.
“Life’s fallen apart. Gambling … I’ve just completely lost control again.
“I’m digging a hole – I can’t get out of it. It’s the worst addiction in the world.”
Ex-Aston Villa star Merson – who has previously admitted to blowing £7 million on gambling – took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.
He wrote: “Thank you for the supportive tweets, means the world to me. Taking one day at a time but it’s getting better for me. Addiction is the most lonely of places and I’ve had three of the worst types over three decades. Never be afraid to talk, you’re never alone. (sic)”
Merson capped off a fine performance against Germany by netting the fourth goal in the final minute after England had gone into the half-time break leading 1-0, only to find themselves 2-1 down just minutes into the second half following a couple of Mark Wright errors.

Bird Box is getting sequel called Malorie

OHMYGOSSIP — Netflix’s ‘Bird Box’ is getting a sequel called ‘Malorie’.
The acclaimed 2018 post-apocalyptic horror – based on Josh Malerman’s 2014 novel of the same name – follows Sandra Bullock’s character Malorie Hayes; a woman who is struggling to survive with her two children after the world is threatened by an unknown energy which forces people to take their own lives when they see it.
The author has now confirmed that some unanswered questions spurred him to write a follow-up film which will takes place eight years after the original movie.
In an interview with Esquire, Malerman said: “At the end of the movie, I turned to my girl Allison and said, ‘I want to know what happens next!’ and she’s like, ‘Well, you know, you could make that happen’, so it really was this warm feeling.
“They’ve left there, [It’s] similar in that they’re trying to make things work. It’s not like it opens with them in paradise.”
The writer – who is engaged to artist-and-musician Allison Laakko – went on to explain that although some fans were keen to know more about Malorie’s children, named simply Boy and Girl, the next instalment will still focus primarily on the lead character as the ‘Bird Box’ world is Malorie’s story”.
He said: “In the time between ‘Bird Box’ coming out and the time since I’ve been writing Malorie, I’ve been asked a ton of times: people want to know what happened with Boy and Girl.
“But as much as I care about Boy and Girl, this isn’t their story. The ‘Bird Box’ world is Malorie’s story and I wanted to know more about her. I wanted to get to know her even better.”
‘Malorie’ is set for release on October 1 this year.

John David Washington to star in Christopher Nolan’s new film

OHMYGOSSIP — John David Washington will star in Christopher Nolan’s new movie.
The ‘BlacKkKlansman’ actor will reportedly take a lead role in the director’s mysterious new project and although plot details are strictly under wraps one insider described the film as a “massive innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in Imax” according to Variety.
Nolan, 48, will be producing as usual alongside Emma Thomas and recently finished the script for the movie while cameras should be rolling later this year with Warner Bros. dating the release as July 17, 2020.
Washington – whose father is Hollywood icon Denzel Washington – rose to fame in Spike Lee’s Oscar nominated biographical drama ‘BlacKkKlansman’ playing Ron Stallworth; the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department, who sets out on a mission to infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan with the help of his partner Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver).
The 34-year-old actor has heaped praise on Lee, 62, after working with him on the film and previously admitted that he feels like one of the filmmaker’s kids.
Asked what Spike has meant to him through his own life, he explained: “He’s given men and women of colour a platform.
“We’re not just in this industry. Both in front and behind the cameras. So many people – DPs, writers, and the assistants that go on to be directors and writers – come from the School of Spike Lee. He’s almost set up an Institution of Spike Lee. We’re all like his children. He’s just so encouraging about that and he’s so supportive.
“So, I just feel like I’m a part of this huge family, and a part of history. I’m connected to a Wesley Snipes and I’m connected to Giancarlo Esposito because of the history of films that we’ve all been a part of with Spike Lee.”

The LP will be comprised of a host of tracks originally recorded by Robbie, 45, played as piano instrumentals by Chambers.
He recorded all the music on his 55th birthday last year in a single session at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
Speaking about the record, Chambers said: “I chose the music that I thought would lend itself to solo piano, they were not chosen as part of a greatest hits exercise. I learnt a lot about the songs.
“I thought it would be nice for them to be heard in their pure melodic form. It was a little gift to myself.”
The album will be preceded by the single ‘The Road To Mandalay’ and other songs on the tracklist include ‘Go Gentle’, ‘No Regrets’, ‘Angels’ and ‘Millennium’.
As well as his ongoing songwriting relationship with Robbie, Chambers has also penned hits for a host of major music stars such as Kylie Minogue, James Blunt, Mel C, Katie Melua, Katy B and John Newman.

Victoria Beckham doesn’t ‘regret’ Spice Girls outfits

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham doesn’t “regret” any of her Spice Girls outfits.
The ‘Viva Forever’ hitmaker – who featured in the 90’s pop band alongside Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton – admitted some of her looks in the group were “bold” and though they’re not what she’d have chosen now, all her stage costumes are just another part of her “journey”.
She told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “Have you seen some of the Spice Girls outfits?! Some looks have been quite bold – like the black patent catsuit and the head-to-toe leather – but they’re part of my journey and what’s made me who I am today, so I don’t regret them. Life’s too short to regret outfit choices!”
When it comes to her style now, the 44-year-old fashion mogul – who has children Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 14, and Harper, seven, with her husband David Beckham – opts for “practical” dresses because they minimise stress in the mornings.
She added: “My style has changed a lot over the years and now I choose pieces that make my life simpler, things that are easy to wear and practical. I think a lot more about what makes me feel good, so maybe that’s an extra couple of inches on the hem to take a dress below the knee, or a super-flattering neckline – things that make me feel more comfortable.
“Not having to think about an outfit can really help the morning stress levels – so being able to just throw one thing on is ideal.”
And Victoria believes the key to looking good in a dress is having the “confidence” to wear one.
She said: “The way things fit to the body and the silhouettes the pieces create are at the forefront of my mind when designing.
“[The secret to a great dress is] confidence! If you look good, you feel good. I want women who wear my pieces to feel like the best version of themselves.”

Lupita Nyong’o experimenting with ‘weird’ looks

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o thinks being in a “horror” film is a “good excuse” to experiment with “weird” fashion.
The 36-year-old actress plays the lead character in Jordan Peele’s much-anticipated horror movie, ‘Us’, which follows the story of a family faced with their worst nightmare when they return to the mother’s childhood home.
And the ‘Black Panther’ star – who has hit the film’s press tour in bold outfits incorporating different coloured contact lenses – revealed she has been debuting risky outfit choices because it represents her roles as both Adelaide Wilson and Red in the upcoming blockbuster.
Opening up about her wardrobe she said: “Why not, a horror film is a really good excuse to be weird.”
Lupita also praised Jordan – whose film follows his 2017 Oscar-winning directorial debut ‘Get Out’ – for his “well thought out” script.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “Jordan Peele puts a lot of meaning into every single shot. He shoots almost like he’s making film on film, so everything is very well thought out and there’s clues everywhere. So pay attention.
“He makes films so people can take from it what they think, and there’s room for interpretation. I’m curious to see what people think of the scissors, rabbits, the doppelgangers.”
The Academy Award-winning star also admitted that she was “freaked out” having to play two characters because the critic in her head is “powerful”.
She added: “I was playing not one, but two characters in the same movie and I was panicked, because usually I have the time it takes to prepare for one film and [even then], the critic in my head is powerful, and she knows how to freak me out.
“It took having people I love around me who could remind me of the things I wasn’t able to see for myself, and to build that confidence.”

Jesy Nelson fronting mental health documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Jesy Nelson is fronting a new documentary about mental health.
The Little Mix star is working with the BBC to raise awareness of mental health and the effects it can have on young people in particular.
She announced: “This is a project really close to my heart, and I’m delighted to be working with the BBC on a documentary that will both challenge me personally and also highlight a hugely important issue affecting young people today. One in four men and women suffer with mental health and it’s a subject that I think we don’t speak about enough. I’m making this film because I really, really want to make a change and a difference to other people’s lives.”
Jesy had previously admitted she “struggled” with the pressures of fame at the start of Little Mix’s career.
She said: “When I first started out, I struggled. I never thought I would get over thinking people thought certain things about me. I still get upset when I talk about it. I’ll never get those years back. I was so miserable, I should have been enjoying my f***ing life.”
And Jesy is grateful to have her bandmates – Perrie Edwards, Leigh Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – by her side throughout it all as she understands why fame can cause people to struggle.
She shared: “We were lucky to be in a group – if we had gone through all of that on our own we would be f**&ed. I completely get why people start self-harming. There’s so much pressure.”

Gemma Chan champions feminism

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Chan thinks it is important that men join the feminism movement and the fight for gender equality.
The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star says it “really heartens” her when men become “allies” with women.
She said: “It always really heartens me when a man does speak out not to just defend women but to make it clear they are an ally. It is so important … We can’t do it without bringing men along for the ride.”
And the 36-year-old actress hates the conversation surrounding women and their ageing process as she thinks it is just another form of “control”.
She added: “It’s been a way of controlling women and making women feel insecure about ourselves and that they aren’t adequate. We need to change things, especially in the beauty industry. The ageing process is going to happen to all of us, how are we going to deal with it? I think anti-ageing is a prehistoric term.”
Gemma has had to face racial prejudice in her life too but the rejection has just made her more “determined”.
She explained to GLAMOUR UK’s March digital issue: “Back when I started out a lot of the parts that I would be asked to audition for would be specifically ethnic parts. But I was told things like, ‘We really liked you, we liked your read, but can you do more of an accent, you sound too English!’ There were preconceived ideas of what someone like me should sound like … I put that energy into my work and it just makes me more determined to do what I do. That’s why it’s so important for a film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ to come out and challenge and subvert people’s ideas of what Asian people are like or perhaps what women are capable of … I think we need to challenge prejudice as a whole, to be honest.”
