George Lucas praises Gloria Katz for her strong writing for female characters

OHMYGOSSIP — George Lucas has paid tribute to late screenwriter Gloria Katz for her ability to “smartly forward the female point of view” on screen.
Katz passed away at the age of 76 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles after a battle with ovarian cancer on November 25 on what was her 49th wedding anniversary to husband and collaborator Willard Huyck.
The couple worked with Lucas, 74, on several movies, including coming-of-age comedy ‘American Graffiti’, ‘Howard the Duck’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’, and they also secretly helped him finish his script for 1977’s ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’.
Remembering her unique contributions to the movies they worked on together, Lucas spoke about her ability to create comedy and also write fully rounded female characters.
He told the New York Times newspaper: “Gloria was great in her writing and humor in terms of creating character and smartly forwarding the female point of view which she did on both ‘American Graffiti’ and ‘Howard the Duck,’ along with a dialogue polish on ‘Star Wars’ that was just plain funny.”
Katz’s impact on ‘Star Wars’ included her helping Lucas redefine Carrie Fisher’s alter ego Princess Leia by convincing him to make her a tougher character and as heroic as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford)
Speaking about her contribution, Katz had said: “She can take command; she doesn’t take any s**t, but at the same time she’s vulnerable … instead of just a beautiful woman that schlepped along to be saved.”

Dara O’Briain to host new series of Blockbusters

OHMYGOSSIP — Dara O’Briain is to host a new series of ‘Blockbusters’.
The 46-year-old comic will front a comedy reboot of the classic game show – which pits students against one another in a test of their general knowledge – for Comedy Central and while he’s “delighted” to be taking on the hosting role previously held by Bob Holness, he joked he’ll be maintaining a straight-face throughout the alphabet-based programme’s most famous innuendo-laden request.
He said: “I’m delighted to take over this classic quiz-show, and with it, the speculation that, like Bob Holness, I played the saxophone on the original recording of ‘Baker St’. For the record, I did not, although I did play the Marimba on ‘I Shot the Sheriff’.
“However, I will not be laughing at contestants saying ‘I’d like a P please, Dara’, just as I haven’t laughed at the planet ‘Uranus’ in 10 years of ‘Stargazing Live’. See, I can do serious.”
Two series of the show, a total of 20 episodes including two celebrity specials, will be filmed early next year and Comedy Central have confirmed they will stick with the original format, with players crossing a hexagonal board by answering questions connected with a letter before taking on the gold run.
Phil Harris, Creative Director of Thames TV, said: “We are beyond thrilled to be bringing back our legendary gameshow ‘Blockbusters’, which has always been a real fan favourite.
“The relaunch of this time-honoured and successful format, combined with Dara’s comedic talent, is guaranteed to be a winning formula and we couldn’t think of a better home for it than Comedy Central.”
Louise Holmes, Vice President, General Manager, Comedy Central UK, added: “One of the UK’s most beloved gameshow formats, ‘Blockbusters’ is an iconic show that a lot of people hold close to their hearts.
“Dara O’Briain, is the perfect quizmaster for the comedy reboot of this nostalgic show. That famous ‘Blockbusters’ theme tune will once again be hummed in living rooms up and down the country very soon!”

Jennifer Aniston: I wasn’t the model child my mom hoped for

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston channelled her difficult relationship with her own mother into her latest role in ‘Dumplin”.
The 49-year-old actress plays the retired beauty queen mother (Rosie) of a plus-sized daughter (Willowdean) in the forthcoming Netflix musical comedy, and has opened up about how she herself always felt like she was not the “model child” her late parent, Nancy Dow, “had hoped for”.
Jennifer admitted: “She was a model and she was all about presentation and what she looked like and what I looked like.
“I did not come out the model child she’s hoped for and it was something that really resonated with me.”
Speaking about the film, the former ‘Friends’ star added to Australia’s The Sunday Telegraph newspaper: “This little girl just wanting to be loved by a mum that was too occupied with things that didn’t quite matter.”
Jennifer was estranged from her mother, but when she heard she was seriously unwell in May 2016, she visited Nancy for the first time in five years, and she later passed away after suffering a stroke.
The ‘Mother’s Day’ star had previously admitted her mum was “very critical” of her.
Nancy didn’t help the situation when she published a tell-all book, ‘From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir’, about Jennifer’s life in 2009.
Speaking previously, she said: “She was critical. She was very critical of me.
“Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine.
“There are people in my life that are like, ‘How do you even talk to that guy?’ But what’s the point of holding on to [anger]? That’s so toxic.”
Nancy married actor John Aniston in 1965 but they divorced when Jennifer was just nine years old.

Meryl Streep praises Bradley Cooper’s director skills

OHMYGOSSIP — Meryl Streep has praised Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut in ‘A Star Is Born’.
The 69-year-old actress praised Bradley’s work on the recent musical remake – which was also written by and starred the 43-year-old actor – and Meryl admitted that usually when film stars direct movies they give “actors too much air” and don’t “cut as brutally” in order to move the story along.
Speaking at Montclair Film Festival’s annual ‘An Evening with Stephen Colbert’ fundraiser, she said: “It’s so breezily shot, it’s not actor shot. Actors who direct give the actors too much air. They don’t cut as brutally as you need to in order to move the story.
“To them, the character is more interesting than the forward movement of the narrative. But Bradley kept it moving. [It’s] brilliant.”
The ‘Mamma Mia!’ actress also went on to speak about her ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ co-star Emily Blunt for her performance in their latest film together ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ and says the Disney sequel is “like a tiny gift to America’.
She said: “The movie is just great, I don’t say this about all my movies, but this is not my movie, this is Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s movie. It’s like a little tiny gift to America at Christmas.”
In the movie – which is a sequel to 1964 classic Mary Poppins which starred Dame Julie Andrews in the titular role – Streep plays Topsy, the eccentric cousin on Blunt’s magical nanny Mary Poppins.

Lars von Trier relies on alcohol to ease anxiety

OHMYGOSSIP — Lars von Trier has confessed that alcohol is sometimes the “only thing” which can help his anxiety.
The controversial filmmaker has admitted his health remains a work-in-process and that he is “working” on his alcoholism, however, Lars is occasionally forced to use booze as a “tool” to help cope with his severe anxiety attacks which leave him mentally crippled.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, the 61-year-old director said: “I’m working on my alcoholism, which is good. I had an eight-month period where I didn’t drink, and I’ll get back to that again soon. But I have this alcohol ‘tool’ that I use when I have to. And if I have a really big anxiety attack, it’s the only thing that will help. ”
The ‘Antichrist’ director has admitted that his alcohol consumption has sometimes had a positive effect on his work as it has freed him of some of the inhibitions holding back his creative visions.
He said: “It depends on the form of the day. I mean, it’s not a spur to work; it’s only self-medication. But when you feel that level of anxiety you’ll do anything to push it away. So, sometimes it helps. It gives you the room to come out with what you already had in mind.”
Lars has also reflected on some of his previous movies and divulged that the picture in which he “had the most fun” was the 2011 drama ‘Melancholia’ starring Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg because they were “all so drunk”.
He said: “‘Melancholia’ was the one where we had the most fun. We were so drunk it was a fantastic experience we were all so drunk.”

Kelly Clarkson told Cher she’s a big fan as they met for the first time

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Clarkson told Cher she’s “a big fan” when they met on the red carpet.
The ‘Piece By Piece’ singer was at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. on Sunday (02.12.18) when she met the ‘Believe’ hitmaker for the first time before the event.
After speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, she bumped into Cher and said: “Hi! I’m Kelly Clarkson! Nice to meet you! I have never met you, I’ve been talking about you this whole time going, ‘She’s right behind me!’
“I’m a big fan, obviously everyone here is, I’m gonna stop talking. OK, yeah, I get very nervous.”
Cher smiled: “I’m so happy to meet you!”
It was a lovely moment for Kelly which comes after she accused Dr. Luke of lying in a bid to take sole credit for writing songs that she also worked on.
The American pop star has made the accusation in the testimony she gave in Kesha’s legal battle with Dr Luke, according to the The Blast, which reports Kelly believes the record producer lied to Grammy Award-winning music executive Clive Davis.
Recalling a meeting she had about her songwriting exploits, Kelly reportedly said in June 2017: “I was told by my label executive … it was a really rough meeting, Clive Davis, where first of all, he told me I was a s****y writer and that I shouldn’t – I should just shut up and listen to the producers.
“And then he said, and I said or he said something about hits. ‘You should just take the hits and just sing them,’ or something to that extent.
“And I said, ‘Well, I’m a writer on these. I mean, I wrote on ‘Miss Independent’. I wrote on like ‘Hazel Eyes’. I wrote ‘Because Of You’ myself. Like I wrote, like I’m like…’ and then he proceeded to say that I did not.
“Well, he told me I was lying. That Dr Luke told him that he had written ‘Hazel Eyes.’ And I was like, I’m pretty sure I went through a real s****y relationship.”

Kieran Hayler covers Katie Price tattoo with giant boat

OHMYGOSSIP — Kieran Hayler has his tattoo of Katie Price covered up with an enormous ship.
The 31-year-old ex-stripper – who split with the 40-year-old former glamour model earlier this year – was so keen to get his huge inking of his estranged wife in her underwear removed from his leg, that he decided to let a friend chose a new design for him on TV show ‘Just the Tattoo of Us’.
The MTV show puts relationships to the test by asking pairs of friends, family members and couples to design outrageous tattoos for each other without the other’s knowledge.
Kieran’s friend chose a large dark picture of a boat to replace the image of Katie and the star was delighted with the “impressive” new ink and felt it was appropriate because “that ship has sailed” when it comes to his relationship with the ‘Loose Women’ panellist, with whom he has children Jett, five, and four-year-old Bunny.
As well as his leg tattoo, Kieran – who is now dating Michelle Penticost – has also had the two intertwined Ks he had inked on his finger, to signify his wedding ring, removed.
A source said previously: “Kieran is looking into getting the wedding tattoo lasered off. He doesn’t see the point in keeping it and wants to get rid of it.
“It’s just a daily reminder of his marriage, which is now over. He wants the whole thing removed and is booking in sessions for it to get lasered off.”
Although the pair have remained relatively tight-lipped on their split, it’s believed the whole thing has been documented on Katie’s reality TV show ‘My Crazy Life’.
A source previously said: “Katie told Kieran she wanted to have the break-up on camera. He didn’t like it at first, but she gave him no choice.

John Mayer and Halsey comment on dating speculation

OHMYGOSSIP — John Mayer and Halsey would never date because they’re “both alpha types”.
The two friends have recently been forced to deny rumours they’re in a relationship, and now they have explained exactly why a romance between them would be “difficult”.
On his own’ Instagram Live show ‘Current Mood’, the ‘Bad At Love’ hitmaker held up a cue card and said: “The fact that we’re both alpha types, while not prohibitive, would make a romantic relationship difficult, especially when compounded by the fact that we’re both highly driven and creative artists who value our independence.”
Halsey admitted she felt the same way, and joked they know each other well enough to be in a relationship.
She laughed: “For being my not-boyfriend, you really do know me so well.”
John, 41, has been in several high profile relationships with the likes of Jessica, as well as Katy Perry, Jennifer Aniston, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
However Halsey, 24, recently hit out at rumours they were an item and stated it’s possible for two people of the opposite sex to be friends and not be “sleeping together”.
She wrote: “I just had a ground breaking idea. What if…we let female artists…have friends…without assuming that they are sleeping together?
I know I know. It’s like, completely ambitious but like, imagine if we like, tried ? (sic)”
Meanwhile, John is known for his bad boy reputation and often rude persona, but previously insisted he’s cleaned up his act in recent years, and now thinks the stereotype that he’s a “d**k” is “a really outdated take” on his personality.
He said: “Some people still say, ‘That guy’s a d**k.’ And I go, ‘Well, any of that data you’re working off of is really old.’ I mean, I can tell you for sure that I haven’t been a d**k in many years. That’s a really outdated take.”

Peter Andre’s son is getting to grips with Greek

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Andre is teaching his two-year-old son to be bilingual.
The 45-year-old singer has been teaching his toddler Theo how to speak in English and in Greek, which is the mother tongue of Pete’s parents who moved to Australia when he was six.
Pete has been amazed at his son’s progress as he can now understand questions he is asked in Greek.
Writing in his column in New! magazine, he revealed: “Over the last couple of weeks we’ve noticed a real improvement in his speech – he can converse properly and his understanding of Greek has got better, too. If I hold something up and ask him what colour it is in Greek, he replies in English! He’s so much happier now he’s able to talk more because he can tell us what he wants and there’s no frustration there. He’s a little ledge.”
As well as Theo, Pete also has four-year-old Amelia with his wife Emily and two children, 13-year-old son Junior and 11-year-old Princess, with his ex-wife Katie Price, both of whom are currently living at his home.
Although Pete already has four kids he and Emily, 29, won’t rule out having another baby in the future.
The qualified doctor previously said: “Pete said in a recent interview that he wants one more child but I can’t say I’m on the same page at the moment. I think he’s forgotten about the sleepless nights with Theo at the start. Maybe when I’ve dedicated a few years to my career I will think about having some more as I really want to get stuck into it next year.”

Beverley Mitchell says Jessica Biel supported her through miscarriage tragedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverley Mitchell says Jessica Biel was “very supportive” after her miscarriage.
The 37-year-old actress has revealed her ‘7th Heaven’ co-star was one of the very first people she told about her devastating news earlier this year.
She told PEOPLE magazine: “She was very supportive through everything and was always checking in on me.
“She was one of the first people I called and I’m just very grateful for her friendship and just her being just a frickin’ badass, awesome person.”
Beverley – who has son Hutton Michael, three, and daughter Kenzie Lynne, five, with husband Michael Cameron – opened up about her devastating experience on Thanksgiving (22.11.18), months after it happened.
On sharing her story, she added: “I’ve been wanting to do it for a few months now. I just couldn’t find the right words and every time I wrote something I felt like it was not coming off the right way.
“One day I’d be really angry about it and then I was like, ‘That’s not a good one.’ And another day I was really emotional and I was like, ‘Uy yuy yuy. That’s not a good one either.’
“And then finally I felt like I was able to speak out with a clear heart and get my point across, but not be overly one way or the other and maybe in a way that I thought the message would be heard a little better.”
Beverley found out she was pregnant with twins earlier in 2018 but had a miscarriage just a few weeks later.
She recently wrote in an emotional blog post: “A few weeks later, our new dream of our growing family came crashing down; we had a miscarriage. This was a shock. Honestly, my first instinct was to say I was fine, and to be honest, I was trying to be. I thought I had to be, for my family, for myself. I had to jump on a plane and go to work being surrounded by babies and kids while I was still miscarrying. That was interesting.
“My heart could not make sense of it. I never really considered that I would miscarry being that I had already had two healthy pregnancies. This was my misconception, you see, I didn’t know much about miscarriages and I didn’t know many people who had miscarried, or so I thought.”

Kym Marsh trying to ‘delay ageing process’ after grandmother news

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is trying to “delay the ageing process” without having to turn to Botox after discovering she is to become a grandmother.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress announced last week that her daughter Emilie, 21, is expecting her first child, and the 42-year-old cobbles star – who plays Michelle Connor on the ITV soap – has booked up several treatments in an attempt to “knock years off”.
She said: “Emilie and I have both been really overwhelmed with all the lovely messages congratulating us on her pregnancy.
“And now that I’m going to be a grandmother, I’m trying to delay the ageing process without having to turn to Botox!
“I’ve booked myself in for a course of non-invasive firming and smoothing face treatments at a clinic in Manchester.
“They’re supposed to knock years off you, so I’ll let you know how I get on.
“I’ve also been back in the gym doing some personal training sessions after a bit of a break from exercising.
“I know most people wait until the new year before going on a health kick, but, the way I see it, if I exercise now, I can eat more chocolate over Christmas.”
As well as real-life pregnancy, Kym’s ‘Corrie’ co-star Elle Mulvaney’s character Amy Barlow is to find out she is expecting aged 14 years old in a new storyline – and Kym is pleased the pregnant plot will hand the 16-year-old star a chance to “show off her acting skills”.
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: “I was happy to hear the show is going to be tackling the issue of teenage pregnancy, with Amy Barlow, played by Elle Mulvaney, finding out she’s pregnant at the age of 14.
“It’s an important issue to tackle and a great chance for Elle to show off her acting skills.”
