Michael Parkinson will never bring back his talk show

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Parkinson is adamant he will never bring back his chat show.
The 83-year-old interviewer sat down to speak with some of the world’s biggest stars on his programme ‘Parkinson’ – which ran from 1971 to 1982 and then from 1998 to 2007 – including Muhammad Ali, Robert De Niro, George Best and David Beckham and many more.
After ending his talk show 11 years ago, Parkinson has moved into other television work and his writing and he insists he cannot be tempted back for another round of interviews or even one-off specials as he thinks the appetite for in-depth profiles is not there anymore.
Speaking on ITV breakfast show ‘Lorraine’, he said: “I’m not doing it anymore, I’m really not. I’m more fascinated by those I did interview and I’m fascinated by the fact there aren’t those opportunities for that kind of person that’s out there. I do think they’re around, I think the shows don’t exist, in a sense, to do that long interview the half hour one or 40 minutes and I think that’s a pity. And I still think there are people out there who are fascinating people.”
Parkinson didn’t get the chance to interview every person on his wish list and he admits he does regret never getting the chance to sit down and talk with singer-and-actress Barbra Streisand, whom he has much admiration for.
The journalist – who documents his friendship with late football legend Best in his new book ‘George Best: A Memoir’ – and his team always tried to get the ‘Funny Girl’ star on his show but she would never agree to do the interview in the studio.
He said: “Streisand, we never got hold of her, we tried every time but she always insisted we went to Paris to do the interview, god knows why, and we always said that it wasn’t a movable feast the show, we can’t bring the studio to Paris, you’ve got to come in and walk down the stairs but she never did. I would have loved to have interviewed her, I saw a documentary about her lately and she was a fascinating woman never mind a great singer.”
Sir Michael Parkinson has claimed social media has killed the art of chat shows.
The iconic TV star – who was at the helm of his own show from 1971 to 2007 – insisted the accessibility of celebrities nowadays has made it difficult for presenters to ask their guests anything the audience doesn’t already know about.
He’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “The problem now is that the mystery and intrigue of fame have disappeared.
“Because of the electronic world we live in they have been replaced by a familiarity that can often mean no matter what question you might pose to your guest, the viewer already knows the answer.”
While Sir Michael, 83, praised “old style” host Jonathan Ross, he also complimented Graham Norton, 55, for turning the format on its head by making it feel like “a party” with all the guests appearing at once.
He added: “Graham has solved the problem by transforming the talk show into a party with everyone, including the audience, invited.
“It works because of his rare talent for making his guests feel wanted and his ability to convince his guests, often meeting for the first time, that they are lifelong buddies.
“He is not so much a talk show host as an illusionist.”
Jonathan, 57, recently echoed similar thoughts to the presenter, and admitted things have changed since Michael’s heyday.
He said: “You have to find an angle now. And also the sorta show I’m doing now, it’s not really a talk show which is about getting to the depth of a personality and finding out their problems in life.
“We do cover some of those topics, but really it’s about trying to create a Saturday night entertainment show. We want a fun atmosphere and everyone to join in.”

Andy Serkis says movie studio fretted over Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Serkis admits making ‘Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle’ shortly after 2016’s ‘The Jungle Book’ made Warner Bros. “fearful”.
The 54-year-old star has directed the latest movie based on the work of writer Rudyard Kipling, and Andy has revealed how Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ impacted his own production.
He shared: “Every aspect of the creative process was a joyful experience.
“The only major problem in the whole thing when the script was commissioned at Warner Bros around 2011 – I came on board in 2013 – was that another production was looming all of a sudden. And that really began to make the studio fearful.”
However, Andy was calm about the situation as he knew the Disney movie – which featured the voices of Idris Elba and Scarlett Johansson – would have a very different tone.
Speaking to the BBC, he explained: “[The other film] never really bothered me because I knew that the Disney remit was very particular.
“It was always going to be a four-quadrant, big, wide, family, popcorn film probably emulating the 1967 animation, using the songs etc.
“Ours was nowhere near that story, we were doing something completely different. We were going back to the source material, I knew exactly the tone of the story I wanted to tell, coming from the tone of the book, so none of that really bothered me.”
Asked whether having to follow ‘The Jungle Book’ was a disadvantage, Andy added: “Creatively, not.
“I’m happy that I have made the film that I set out to make. I suppose in terms of perception, there was a shadow cast to a certain degree, in terms of the commercial aspect.
“Jon Favreau’s version made $960 million at the box office, so people ascribe a success to that, and I umm’d and ahh’d about seeing the movie for a long time.
“We’d made our movie, we were in the long post production when theirs came out … I think [Warner Bros] took the brunt, the big fear of ‘how can we compete with that’, but in terms of the creativity, I just didn’t waver.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in a remake of the Danish movie ‘The Guilty’.
The 37-year-old actor has been cast in the upcoming project and is also poised to produce the movie alongside Riva Marker for Nine Stories, according to Variety.
The Danish version of the film – which has been nominated for various awards – tells the story of a police officer under investigation who finds himself being demoted to working in an emergency call centre.
However, the story takes a dramatic twist when he receives a phone call from a terrified woman who claims to have been kidnapped.
Gustav Moller, the writer and co-director of the original movie, and producer Lina Flint are to fulfil the roles of executive producers for the remake.
Looking forward to the project, Jake and Riva said: “We saw ‘The Guilty’ at Sundance and were blown away.
“Moller’s film masterfully weaves tension into an acute character study, and is exactly the kind of material that Nine Stories is excited to develop. We are honoured to be able to adapt it for American audiences alongside Bold Films.”
Meanwhile, Jake recently confirmed his casting in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.
The Hollywood actor used his first-ever Instagram post to reveal his role.
Jake shared a video of himself reading a ‘Spider-Man’ comic called ‘The Return of the Man Called Mysterio’, which was initially covering his face, but he then lowered the comic so his open-mouthed expression could be seen.
He then exclaimed: “Woah. What the f…”
And Jake captioned the post: “I just realized I’m not playing Spider-Man. (sic)”

Geezer Butler supergroup Deadland Ritual play Download Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Geezer Butler’s new supergroup Deadland Ritual will make their debut at Download Festival next year.
The former Black Sabbath bassist has joined forces with Matt Sorum (formerly drummer of Guns N’ Roses), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and vocalist Franky Perez (Apocalyptica) for the new bluesy rock band, who have unveiled their first single, ‘Down in Flames’, and announced two UK festival dates at the metal festival in Donington, England, on June 14, and France’s Hellfest Festival in Clisson on June 22.
The ‘Paranoid’ hitmaker admitted that he wasn’t sure about starting a new project, but couldn’t refuse after being blown away by their material.
He said: “I had to get used to the idea of starting from scratch again, which is good.
“But I really liked the music I was hearing. It’s not your typical hard rock or metal stuff.”
On working with his idol Geezer, Steve commented: “There’s a lot of times in the studio as a guitar player, you get a guitar sound and you’re trying to make it work, tweaking it.
“There was none of that bullsh*t.
“It just fit against his bass sound and it was really exciting to me.
“I get to hear my guitar against a bass guitarist that I’ve idolised forever.”
According to Matt – who played percussion for the ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ hitmakers from 1990 to 1997 and former bandmate Slash’s supergroup Velvet Revolver between 2002 and 2008 – their live set will be comprised of their own material and “deeper cuts from their collective past – not the typical songs you would expect.”
The forthcoming shows will be Geezer’s first performances since Black Sabbath retired from the road with their ‘The End Tour’ in February last year.

Cara Delevingne is face of Dior Addict lipstick

OHMYGOSSIP — Cara Delevingne has been announced as the face of Dior Addict lipstick.
The model and actress is set to front the upcoming new range – called Stellar Shine – which has been conceived by the makeup brand’s creative and image director Peter Philips.
The updated formula – which looks to capture the “spectacular spirit of fashion” – is set to be launched in March, and it is the next step in Cara’s collaboration with the company.
She is already the face of Dior’s Capture Youth collection, which features skin care targeting the first signs of aging.
The announcement comes after the 26-year-old star – who will appear in both ‘Carnival Row’ and ‘Fever Heart’ next year – revealed she is planning to slow down and be more selective with her big screen roles.
She recently said: “It’s really important now what scripts I choose and to wait for the right projects. I’ve definitely got better with [saying no]. I think we all get better at that with age.”
Meanwhile, Cara loves speaking to women from all walks of life and recently admitted she finds their stories inspirational.
The model said: “Generally, women inspire me no matter what. The more you get to know every women, their story, strength and inspiration.”
And the British beauty couldn’t be happier that women are increasingly encouraged to speak out about their passions.
She added: “Now more and more women are finding a voice to stand up for what they believe in – the more vulnerability that is spoken about, the better.”

Sue Nicholls has become ‘awfully more opinionated’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Nicholls has become “awfully more opinionated” and developed road rage since growing older.
The legendary ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who has played Audrey Roberts on the ITV soap since 1979 – admits her language is “appalling” when she is driving a car, as is her “sign language”, since she has “become ancient”.
The 75-year-old star said: “I think actually funnily enough in the last years when I’ve become ancient I think I’ve changed a bit and I’m talking late 60s, early 70s, I think I had changed.
“Maybe it’s my mindset that has changed. I’m awfully more opinionated and don’t drive with me because my language is appalling. My sign language is hot as well.
“I’ve spent most of my life happily smiling and not saying much of interest and suddenly I find that I’m actually quite opinionated.
“I’ve got a touch of something, you know when people do have a slight disability and they tell the truth and it’s not rude but you think, ‘Oh gosh I wasn’t expecting that.’ ”
Audrey is rarely seen driving on the cobbles, which may explain partly why Sue admits she is happier in the fictional world of Weatherfield than she is when she steps off the street set and returns to real life.
She said: “It’s a pathetic thing to say but I’m happier in this strange little world of Weatherfield with all the terrible things that do happen over the years, people getting killed and god knows what, than I am with the real world.
“I can’t cope with the real world.
“So I kind of like this so I don’t know if that makes me a rather feeble, elderly person, so I enjoy it. I enjoy what I have to do.”
Sue believes it would be “interesting” to have a ‘Corrie’ character “heavily into” the #MeToo movement, a campaign against sexual harassment and sexual assault which became particularly prominent soon after movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual abuse by multiple women in October 2017.
She added to The Sun newspaper: “Yes there’s #MeToo but that’s another part of life now, which we didn’t have before and that’s quite interesting.
“You know, that would just help any series as well, if you’ve got a character that’s heavily into that. It’s another issue that can be explored and that’s interesting too.”

Susanna Reid: I quit the gym because it made me hungry

OHMYGOSSIP — Susanna Reid quit exercise because it made her too hungry.
The 48-year-old broadcaster has shed lost 21lbs since giving up alcohol and adopting a healthy new regime in September, but she ditched exercise due to feeling too hungry after workouts.
On today’s (11.12.18) ‘Good Morning Britain’, Susanna’s co-host Piers Morgan gave her a healthy food hamper for her birthday, and said: “The worst thing about being alcohol-free, you’re basically awake all the time, you obviously don’t sleep.
“You don’t do anything; you just exercise and eat kale.”
But Susanna quickly corrected him, saying: “Actually I don’t do any exercise at all.
“I stopped going to the gym, I found it made me too hungry.”
The former ‘Save Money: Good Food’ host also announced that she is content with her current weight and is not keen to shed anymore pounds.
She said: “I’ve levelled out, I lost a stone-and-a-half and that’s enough, and I don’t go to the gym.”
The TV presenter previously stated she feels a lot better now that she has lost weight, and no longer has to deal with heavy hangovers.
She said: “And as you get older it takes that little bit longer to get over a night out if you’ve had some drinks. I feel better.”
However, the brunette beauty admitted that cutting out booze from her “big nights out” has definitely been a change, saying she used to love alcohol-fuelled evenings of champagne or prosecco.
She previously added: “There is definitely a bit of a loss, because in our culture big nights out are so centred around alcohol. And I used to love a big night out.”

Diane Kruger is experiencing ‘a great moment’ in her life

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Kruger feels as though she’s in the midst of “a great moment” in her life.
The 42-year-old actress gave birth to a baby daughter last month and she’s revealed that she and her partner, actor Norman Reedus, are relishing the challenge of parenthood.
She shared: “It’s a great moment of joy. We have a lot to be thankful for. It’s been a wonderful year.”
The Hollywood star admitted she’s looking forward to creating some Christmas traditions with her family.
She told E! News: “What’s exciting is to start your own and anything is possible and as long as my home is happy and light and positive, it doesn’t matter.”
Diane and Norman, 49, have been dating since 2016 and the actress previously admitted that their relationship is markedly different to her previous romances.
Diane insisted she’s no longer willing to make the same number of “compromises” she’s made in the past.
The actress – who met Norman during the production of the movie ‘Sky’ in 2015 – said: “There are certain things I won’t accept anymore.
“I think when you’re in a long-term relationship, you start making excuses, and you’re making a lot of compromises – which obviously you need to make to make things work – but I think there are certain things that I’ve learned I don’t want to accept anymore.”
Diane also explained how maturity had transformed her outlook on life.
The actress reflected: “The older I get, it’s about focusing on the people that I have left: my mom, my brother, my grandfather and my boyfriend. I just want to be present in my life and not try to project so much into the future.”

Constance Wu in talks for Elizabeth Banks’ new rom-com

OHMYGOSSIP — Constance Wu is in talks for Elizabeth Banks’ new romantic comedy.
The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ actress – who starred as Rachel Chu in the blockbuster movie over the summer – has started discussions to join the cast of Sony’s Screen Gems’ project, which will co-produced by Banks and Max Handelman.
As reported by Variety, the film will see ‘GLOW’ star Kimmy Gatewood making her feature directorial debut at the helm, while the script comes from Savion Einstein.
The movie will tell the tale of a woman who becomes pregnant with two babies from two different men.
Wu, 36, first rose to fame in the cast of sitcom ‘Fresh Off the Boat’, before taking the lead opposite Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ – based on a novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan – in August.
The movie has gone on to gross $327 million worldwide, and the actress has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance.
Kwan has penned sequels ‘China Rich Girlfriend’ and ‘Rich People Problems’, and a sequel has been discussed.
Hinting that there had already been talks about a follow-up, Wu admitted serious work wouldn’t start for a while because of director Jon M. Chu’s hectic filming schedule.
She previously said: “I don’t know much about the production side of things.
“But I know that Jon [M. Chu] wants to direct the next one, and all next year he’s directing ‘In The Heights.’ ”
Chu’s upcoming project is a big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical of the same name, which first launched on Broadway in 2008.

Tom DeLonge announces sci-fi TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom DeLonge is making his own science fiction TV show loosely based around the time he founded Blink-182.
The ‘Aliens Exist’ guitarist – and UFO researcher – has announced plans to adapt his own graphic novel ‘Strange Times’ for US network TBS, and it’s set to follow “five dirty teenage skateboarders who solve paranormal mysteries while being chased by Deep State government agents”.
DeLonge said: “My love for all things paranormal and skateboarding are sometimes only superseded by my love for offensive humor. This series combines them all into one.”
The 42-year-old rocker revealed the show will follow “tribe of degenerate skateboarders” based on a group of friends he knew as a youngster around the time he formed the ‘All The Small Things’ group in 1993 with Mark Hoppus and drummer Scott Raynor, who was later replaced by Travis Barker.
He added to Variety: “The gang of characters in the story is based on the tribe of degenerate skateboarders that I grew up with — right around the same time I started my band Blink-182.
“The story is also set in that same town. Charlie, the main character, is a bit of myself. A boy searching for answers, trying to find a way out of suburbia, but laughing with his ridiculous, irreverent friends along the way.”
The star – who was announced as UFO researcher of the year in 2017 – left Blink-182 in 2015 and was replaced by Alkaline Trio rocker Matt Skiba.
Last month, he appeared to be on good terms with former bandmate Mark as they joked on Twitter about whether the accurate pronunciation of their band name is ‘one hundred and eighty two’, or ‘one eight two’.
Tom quipped: “It’s actually– Blink eighteen-two. People have all gotten this wrong for years. Sometimes this can happen with very complex, thoughtful and elevated art.”

The 24-year-old model loves “creating makeup” and she has teased she has “something in the works” when it comes to her own branded products.
In an interview with ELLE, she said: “I’m really into makeup, doing makeup, testing makeup, creating makeup. I really love beauty products; I always have. I have something in the works right now, actually, but I can’t talk about it yet.”
The Canadian catwalk star also shared her top beauty products and insisted that lip gloss was her “first love” and she won’t leave home without it.
She said: “The two things I won’t leave the house without are my eyebrows done and lip gloss. Actually, lip gloss was my first love – greasy, buttery, sparkly lips. That was my entry into beauty.”
The former ‘America’s Next Top Model’ contestant made her Victoria’s Secret debut last month at the lingerie brand’s annual Fashion Show in New York City and she hopes it will be the first appearance of many for the lingerie and sportswear brand.
Winnie – who is one of the world’s most recognisable models due to her vitiligo skin condition – said:”It still feels surreal. Lindsey Buckingham brands new-look Fleetwood Mac a ‘cover band’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lindsey Buckingham has branded Fleetwood Mac a “cover band” but insisted he’d be interested in a return.
The iconic guitarist was sacked from the band in January and just last week a settlement was reached after he began legal proceedings against his former bandmates in October alleging breach of fiduciary duty and breach of oral contract.
Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, and Stevie Nicks have now joined up with Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell for the upcoming tour.
Lindsey told Stereogum: “Look, it’s Fleetwood Mac, anything’s possible. Maybe they’ll get it out of their system. If they ask me to come back, would I?
“Sure, because to me I think the lack of a proper farewell tour, if that’s what we’re doing, that doesn’t undercut, like I say, the legacy that we have so carefully built as the five of us, which they’re not doing right now.
“I don’t know what they’re doing. It’s a cover band kind of deal, and Stevie may be enjoying that, and that’s fine. If she is happy doing that, there is no one outcome that I think is going to be okay.”
He recently admitted he hadn’t spoken to any of his former bandmates since his dismissal from the group, but Christine recently reached out to him.
He said: “I have had, only in the last couple of weeks, I have gotten an email, which I expected to get, from Christine McVie.
“She wrote me an email and basically said, ‘Dearest Lindsey, just know that I had nothing to do with any of this. Know that I miss you so much.’ She said, ‘I believe deep in Stevie’s heart that she would like you to come home.’ ”

Another said: “Pink dream! Looking very cool Georgia (sic)”
The model is known for her bright and bold make-up looks and signature quirky outfits, and last year the style icon launched her very own clothing line inspired by music, art and travel, in collaboration with Volcom’s Stone Row and the brand’s womenswear global design director, was over the moon to be working with her.
She said: “She is honest and focused on what she wants. Plus, she is with us every step of the way through the design process. With a common influence from London and California, we are aligned on our inspiration for Volcom and Stone Row, so it’s been a great partnership.”

Chris Gascoyne keen for Corrie death plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Gascoyne says it would be “brilliant” if his ‘Coronation Street’ character drank himself to death.
The 50-year-old actor insist the only way his recovering alcoholic character Peter Barlow could leave Weatherfield would be in a coffin, and while he admits it wouldn’t be a nice plot, he “would like” to play out the storyline.
He said: “If they said to me that they were going to write Peter out or I told them that I was finished for good, he would have to drink himself to death.
“I don’t think it would be a very nice storyline, but it would be brilliant. Something tragic would happen and he falls off the wagon again and drinks himself into oblivion. I would like to do that.”
Despite talk of a potential cobbles departure for Peter, Chris insists he is not in any hurry to leave the soap for the time being.
He added: “I’m not wanting to leave at all. I’m loving it at the moment – I’ve had a brilliant two-and-a-half years back.
“I’m not saying I’m chucking it in. This could be in five or 10 years. That’s how I’d like the story to play out.”
Peter is set to dice with death when he and son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) are caught up in a terrifying boat blaze, which will see their lives “hang in the balance”.
A source recently said: “There’s a massive fire on a boat on the canal and Simon is inside.
“Peter and Simon’s lives hang in the balance. It’s going to be a huge stunt. They’re planning massive pyrotechnics and special FX.”
