Emilia Fox credits ‘good writing’ for Silent Witness success

OHMYGOSSIP — Emilia Fox thinks “good writing” help ‘Silent Witness’ stay fresh.
The 44-year-old actress has starred as Dr. Nikki Alexander on the detective drama for 14 years now, and with the show set to return next month for its 22nd season she has opened up on its longevity.
Appearing on ‘Sunday Brunch’, she said: “Good writing, that’s what it’s about.
“And picking subjects which are current and keeping it mixed up with having a thriller, or having an action one, or having one which is very, very medically led.”
Meanwhile, Emilia – who joined the show in 2004 following the departure of Amanda Burton – also pointed to the the uniqueness of the programme which sets it apart from others in the genre.
She added: “I think that the interest is finding the clues through the bodies, so it makes it a bit different to the normal detective drama.
“So you’re really having a behind-the-scenes look at how to solve crime and they try and keep that as true to life as possible.”
Her comments come after the star admitted she has struggled with body confidence throughout her life, but that chopping up dead corpses on the long-running drama has made her value having a “healthy” anatomy – something which she didn’t appreciate in her twenties.
She said: “I’ve never been in love with my body and I don’t think I ever will be in love in my body.
“Maybe it’s because I’ve worked on ‘Silent Witness’ for so long, but I do appreciate that I have a body and that it, touch wood, is healthy.
“I was thinking about this as I dissected some organs on ‘Silent Witness’ the other day. I just felt lucky that I’ve got a healthy body.
“I didn’t appreciate that in my twenties, but I do now. So when I feel best about my body is when I’m looking after it.”

Chris Chibnall says Doctor Who is ‘response to the world we live in’

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Chibnall says ‘Doctor Who’ is a “response to the world we live in”.
The 48-year-old showrunner has explained that the long-running series strives to tackle issues that “affect people’s lives” and includes several storylines that are responsive to the times we live in.
At a screening of the New Year’s Day special ‘Resolution’, Chris said: “I think you want to be writing about the world that we live in – the show is not a standalone thing, it’s a response to the times that we’re living in, the world that we’re in, and things that affect people’s lives, particularly things that children and young adults are going through.”
Jodie Whittaker stepped into the iconic lead role in ‘Doctor Who’ for her first series in the TARDIS this year – following on from Peter Capaldi’s incarnation of the Time Lord, and the latest series has explored various social issues, including the origins of the Civil Rights movement in the episode ‘Rosa’.
While fans are facing a long wait for Jodie’s second season, the BBC’s Director General added at the event that series 12 will hit the small screen “very early in 2020”.
And it could give fans more of an insight into the character of Yaz – played by Mandip Gill – after a fan asked whether viewers would see more of her as a police officer.
The BBC previously announced that Jodie is set to be joined once again by Mandip, Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Tosin Cole (Ryan).
And the broadcaster heaped praise on the most recent series, which “averaged a four-screen consolidated audience of 8.4 million”.
Charlotte Moore, director of content, added: “We’re delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020.
“I know Chris and the whole team are already working on a whole new set of exciting adventures. In the meantime we’ve got a very special episode on New Year’s Day for everyone to enjoy.”
Doctor Who’s New Year’s Day special airs on Tuesday 1st January at 7.00pm on BBC1.

Mel B wants to prove herself

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel B is ready to “prove” herself again.
The Spice Girls singer – who has children Phoenix, 19, Angel, 11, and seven-year-old Madison from previous relationships – has downsized her home after paying millions in court costs during her bitter divorce from Stephen Belafonte, who she has to pay £35,000 a month in spousal support, and though she’s lost almost all her fortune, she’s not “frightened” or “bitter” about her current situation.
She said: “The reality of my life now is that I live in a rented apartment with my girls.
“Most of my money I earned over the past decade has gone.
“But I’ve always been the breadwinner and I will continue to be the breadwinner and having to start over financially doesn’t frighten me.
“If anything, it makes me want to prove myself over again.
“I’m not bitter, I don’t look back, I just look forward.
“I have a beautiful apartment, my girls play the piano, Phoenix has a smaller apartment down the hall and I feel very blessed to be here.”
And the 43-year-old star feels “lucky” to love her work and is more than happy to keep pushing herself.
She added to Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “I’ve always worked hard and I’ll continue to work hard because I love what I do. And if the price of freedom is to downsize to a smaller place, then it is absolutely worth it.
“I’m a working class girl from Leeds. My dad worked as a welder and never missed a shift in his life.
“My mum worked lots of different jobs, including as a sales assistant in C&A and as a helper in an old people’s home so that me and my sister could have dance lessons.
“I’m lucky that I have a job that I love and I’m lucky that I’m still working. I never forget that.”

Rebel Wilson got lost on a mountain

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebel Wilson had to be rescued after she got “lost” on a mountain in Aspen.
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star was on a trip to the popular winter destination in Colorado when she found herself lost on a mountain and had to call for help to get back to her hotel.
Updating her fans on her Instagram story, she said: “Alright, guys. I’m lost on the mountain, but I’m going to make it … This is a bit too experienced for me, so I’m just gonna slide down (sic)”
In a second video, she introduced her fans to a man called Scott who was going to help her make it down the slippy slope.
Later, Rebel took to social media to insist she was doing alright and thanked the “kind strangers” who helped her down off the mountain.
She said: “Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know I did get back to the hotel safely. I want to thank everybody in Aspen for all of their help on the slopes because you guys are amazing, you do this all day every day whereas for me, it was only like my second day of skiing. I lost feeling in my left foot, I think it was the ski boot, I think it was too tight, I think maybe I need to buy professional ski boots or something … I just wanted to say thank you to all those very kind strangers who helped today. I’m resting up now cause it’s New Year’s Eve tomorrow.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lawrence once smoked a joint that made her “enter a different universe”.
The 28-year-old actress recalled a hilarious incident that happened during talk show host Ellen DeGeneres’ birthday party, and revealed she smoked cannabis with “some rappers” whilst she was waiting for her ride home.
In a throwback clip released over the festive period, Jennifer appeared on SiriusXM’s ‘Howard Stern Show’ back in February, and said: “I was done, and I went to go see my ride, and my ride wasn’t ready to leave yet.
“So, I smoked a joint with some rappers. Their s**t is different. So, I entered a different universe.”
The blonde beauty recalled a physical altercation between her and a mystery woman at the porta loos which led to Lawrence being “grabbed” by security.
She added: “There was a woman there, and she was like, ‘No, no, no, go on, go ahead!’ I was like, ‘No, you were here first. You go!’ And she was like, ‘Go!’
“I was like, ‘Okay.’ So I’m in the porta [potty], and I was like, ‘She’s gotta poop. This poor woman just gotta poop.’ So I came out, and I made a beeline for her and I went up to her and I was like, ‘Look, you gotta poop.’ And she was like, ‘No, I don’t. I don’t know why you’re saying that. I really don’t.’ She was kind of laughing but was like, ‘No.’
“All of a sudden, security is grabbing me because what I hadn’t realised is I am grabbing this woman by the shoulders, shaking her, screaming, ‘You have to poop! You have to poop!’
“He’s like, ‘You can’t grab her. But, I agree. She’s gotta poop’. He and I were on the ground laughing. The woman finally just started laughing, and I was like, ‘Just… poop.’
“I have to find out who she is, I have to apologise. But then I got McDonald’s on the way back.”

Keira Knightley: I’ve always craved adventures

OHMYGOSSIP — Keira Knightley has always craved “adventures”.
The 33-year-old actress has admitted to being “obsessed” by ‘The Godfather’ during her childhood and claims she’s never wanted to just be seen as the “pretty girl in the corner”.
Keria shared: “I wanted to be Al Pacino and that’s where I was heading. The great parts are the guys’ parts.
“You don’t want to be the pretty girl in the corner or the mum being lovable and supportive. Of course, when you grow up you are, but you still want to have the adventures.”
Keira recognises the inequality women experience around the world, but the Hollywood star also thinks it’s important that women take a “big look” at themselves.
Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, she reflected: “Internalised misogyny? I’m not criticising that. All of us respond to and survive within the culture in the way that we can. But I think we need to have a big look at ourselves.”
Earlier this year, meanwhile, Keira admitted to being unprepared for the pressure she felt during her late teens.
The ‘Pride and Prejudice’ star shared: “It’s amazing looking back at it from the outside – you’re like, ‘Woah, that was hit after hit after hit!’ But, from the inside, all you’re hearing is the criticism, really. And, also, I was aware that I didn’t know what I was doing, you know?
“I didn’t know my trade, I didn’t know my craft. I knew that there was something that worked sometimes, but I didn’t know how to capture that.”

Ariana Grande cancels Vegas show

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande has cancelled her Las Vegas performance.
The ‘god is a woman’ hitmaker was due to perform at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday (29.12.18) but has been forced to pull out due to health reasons.
A representative for the venue said: “Due to unforeseeable health reasons, Ariana Grande has canceled her show at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday, Dec. 29. Guests are able to receive a full refund on tickets through their specified point of purchase. A rescheduled date has not yet been determined at this time.”
Ariana – who would have been making her first on stage performance since she broke off her engagement with ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Pete Davidson – is believed to be suffering from bronchitis, TMZ reports.
Ariana has had a tough year and previously admitted it has had both the “best and the worst” year of her life.
Whilst she enjoyed great professional success over the last 12 months, she has also been dealing with the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and the breakdown of her engagement to Pete, as well as the ongoing aftermath of a terrorist attack at her concert in May 2017.
Speaking as she picked up the Woman of the Year Award earlier this month, she said: “This is really special. I want to say that I find it interesting that this has been one of the best years in my career and one of, like, the worst years in my life. I’m just saying that because I feel like a lot of people would look at someone in my position right now, Woman of the Year, an artist that could be at her peak, reaching her, you know, whatever, and think, you know, ‘She’s really got her sh*t together, she’s really on it, she has got it all.’ I do, but as far as my personal life goes, I really have no idea what the f**k I am doing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chrissy Teigen has paid tribute to her “best friend” John Legend on his 40th birthday.
The ‘Sports Illustrated’ model thanked her husband for being the “hardest worker, best lover [and] best friend she could ever imagine” as he reached the milestone birthday on Friday (28.12.18).
She wrote on Instagram: “Happy 40th birthday to the most incredible man. The best father, hardest worker, best lover, best friend I could ever imagine. Every day I am grateful for how much you love us and how much you both say it and show it. You are one of a kind. I am grateful to your family for creating and raising such a pure, sweet, brilliant man. The world has been blessed by your 40 years on this planet. I love you. Meanwhile, Chrissy previously confessed she wants “a ton of kids”.
She said: “John wants however many kids I want. That’s the good thing with John – he is down for it. Are we ready right now? No! I really love having two, but I think when I’m 70, I’ll look back and say, ‘Oh, I wish I had more.’ I can’t see myself regretting having a ton of kids.”
Chrissy became pregnant with her first two children via in vitro fertilisation (IVF), and the ‘Lip Sync Battle’ star admitted that although “it would be awesome” to conceive naturally, she is thankful to have been spared “chaos” by being able to control “timing and scheduling” with the treatment.
She added: “Miles was actually made at the same time as Luna; they were sharing the same little petri dish together. It’s crazy. It’d be awesome; I can’t even fathom it because it’s never happened to me. I’m totally fine with it not happening because I’ve been in a position where we’ve been able to control it – the timing and scheduling. It would be chaos otherwise – but I love chaos too.”

Jennifer Lopez particular about her roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez is “quite particular” about the roles she takes on.
The ‘Second Act’ star will only say yes to the “right” movies and if she isn’t able to be offered the “right types of opportunities”, she will “create” her own instead.
She said: “I’m quite particular. I’ve been offered a couple of movies over the past couple of years but unless it’s the right thing and I get the right types of opportunities, I’d rather create them. That’s mine and [producing partner] Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas’ mantra. We don’t force things, but we don’t wait around either … If no one is giving us the stories that we want to tell, then we’ll create them ourselves.”
Meanwhile, Jennifer previously insisted she thinks failure only comes with “stopping”.
She said: “I look [at the downs in my career] now and I think, ‘You really just plowed through those.’ That’s the thing, you can’t stop. You have to keep on going. Failure is not falling down and making a mistake, or choosing a wrong movie, or doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. It’s stopping. Stopping is the failure; not continuing forward is the failure. We don’t listen to our gut enough, telling us this is not the right thing for you right now. You’re doing this out of fear instead of out of love.”
And Jennifer admits she has a hard time saying no because she doesn’t want to miss out on anything, but as she’s gotten older, she’s learned how to be more selective over the work she takes on.
Jennifer added: “It’s hard for me to say no, and it always has been. I’ve always been this person who takes on a lot because I love so many things. I love acting. I love making movies, I also love making television. I love performing live … When opportunities come, it’s hard for me to say no. But what I think I’ve learned, and what I’m trying to do now at this point in my life is to say no a little bit more and hone it down to working smarter instead of working all the time. Which, it gets tiring.”

John Mayer’s tribute to Mac Miller

OHMYGOSSIP — John Mayer was so upset about Mac Miller’s death because he “didn’t” know him well.
The ‘Free Fallin’ hitmaker was devastated when the rapper died from an accidental drug overdose in September but admits what hurt him about his passing the most was that he didn’t know him well and he only “wishes he had more to tell” people about Mac.
Alongside a picture of Mac, he wrote on Instagram: “Several weeks ago, I was sent an email asking if I wanted to take part in a Mac Miller tribute for a magazine as part of an end-of-year recap. I passed on it, not because I didn’t want to talk more about him, but because I couldn’t; I had shared all the memories I had of him in the brief time of our getting to know one another. I replied to the email and sat in silence for a few minutes. That day, I discovered a new dimension to the sadness of his passing – I wasn’t upset because I knew him well. I was upset because I didn’t. I wish I had more to tell you about Mac Miller. What I do have to remember him by are a couple of beautiful mental photographs that I’ll keep with me the rest of my life.”
Last month, Mac’s death was ruled an accident, with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner saying his passing was due to mixed drug toxicity of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. Though the amount of each substance wasn’t necessarily lethal, it was the combination of drugs that proved fatal.

Wyatt Russell and Meredith Hagner engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — Wyatt Russell is engaged to Meredith Hagner.
The ‘Overlord’ actor – who is the son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn – proposed to the ‘Younger’ actress in Snowmass Village, Colorado in front of their closest family over the festive period.
She wrote on Instagram: “the love of my dang life proposed to me. He is the best guy in the world. It was an epic surprise surrounded by our closest family and I would give the proposal 5 stars on yelp!!!!! (sic)”
The couple met in 2016 whilst working together on the independent film ‘Folk Hero & Funny Guy’.
Despite having two very famous parents, Wyatt insists his life growing up was very “normal” because Kurt and Goldie made an effort to make their “abnormal” life seem more normal.
He said previously: “It did seem normal to me because they never made what they did abnormal. They never made themselves abnormal. They never looked at themselves like, ‘I’m special because I do this.’ The normalcy of who we are came from the core values of who my parents were when they grew up and transferred it into their parenting styles for the way we are. It’s definitely not a normal thing, to do this. People can get caught up in it. It’s hard not to sometimes.”
Before becoming an actor, Wyatt was a hockey player and liked the sport because it was “numbers related” unlike acting, which he says is “subjective”.
He explained: “I liked playing hockey and being a goalie because it was numbers related. You’re either the best or you’re not. It’s numbers. You have the best goals-against average and save the most pucks and win the most games, or you don’t. It’s not subjective. So going into this world, I didn’t like the subjectivity of it because it meant that other people were going to put what they thought about you onto you.”

Usher files for divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Usher has filed for divorce.
The ‘U Got It Bad’ hitmaker and his estranged wife Grace Miguel confirmed earlier this year that they are going their separate ways but the former couple have now made it official after papers were submitted to the court on Friday (28.12.18).
Court records obtained by The Blast showed that the documents were filed in Georgia and that Usher is using the same lawyer he did when he split from Tameka Foster.
Usher and Grace confirmed their split in March this year in a joint statement and insisted they would “remain deeply connected, loving friends”.
They said at the time: “After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple. We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives. The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”
Usher and Grace started dating in 2009 after he split from his first wife, Tameka, with whom he has 11-year-old son Usher Raymond V and 10-year-old son Naviyd Ely.
Meanwhile, Usher recently sold his Georgia mansion for a cool $1,500,000. The property comes with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and covers an impressive 8,022-sq. ft. Located in an exclusive gated country club, the mansion is packed with lavish features, including a gourmet kitchen, covered terrace bar, yoga studio, resort-style master bath with sauna, soaking spa and rain shower, ice bath, a guest house with its own private dance studio and even a climate controlled treehouse for kids.

Kanye West ‘surprised his wife with $14m gift’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West has reportedly surprised Kim Kardashian West by buying her a $14 million apartment as a gift.
The 41-year-old rap star has agreed to pay the eye-watering sum of money for the spectacular apartment – which is designed by world-famous architect Norman Foster – in Miami’s so-called billionaire beach bunker.
A source told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: “Kanye saw the property during Art Basel in December and bought it as a Christmas present for Kim. It was a complete surprise for her.”
The ‘Famous’ rapper – who has kids North, five, Saint, three, and 11-month-old Chicago with Kim – has already agreed a deal for the luxury apartment and the sale is expected to close in January.
Kanye and Kim’s new property reportedly features four bedrooms and five 1/2-bathrooms, while their building is home to a private gym, a spa, a swimming pool and a concierge.
Meanwhile, Kris Jenner – Kim’s mother – reportedly spent as much as $500,000 on her Christmas Eve party.
The 62-year-old showbiz matriarch staged her annual December 24 bash at the Hidden Hills home of Kim and Kanye – and she spared no expense in making sure the family’s 200 guests had a great time, with an insider saying the event is crucial to the family’s “image”
A source explained: “The party needs to be eye-popping because it sets the tone for their empire – it creates a fantasy world and makes people want to tune in, so $500,000 is nothing for them.
“The grand spectacle of the party also helps sell Kylie [Jenner’s] make-up, Kim’s perfumes, and Khloe [Kardashian’s} jeans. It’s all about image.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus was determined to create a “charming” atmosphere on her wedding day.
The 26-year-old star tied the knot with actor Liam Hemsworth during a ceremony in Franklin, Tennessee, on December 23 and according to an insider, the event was strikingly different to MIley’s usual over-the-top style.
Sunny Becks, the owner of Vroom Vroom Balloon, the newlywed’s vendor, explained to People: “She wanted something very pastel and sweet.
“She was doing something different than her typical, really bright-coloured way of doing things. She had a really specific vision of something very charming. They were amazing to work with.”
The loved-up duo tied the knot in front of their families, including Miley’s sisters Noah and Brandi and Liam’s brothers Chris and Luke.
Miley confirmed her marriage to Liam by sharing a string of black and white photos from their nuptials earlier this week, a decade after they first met while shooting ‘The Last Song’.
In one set of pictures of the pair embracing, Miley – who wore a floor-length white Vivienne Westwood gown – captioned the Instagram post: “12.23.18”
And alongside another, she wrote: “10 years later …..(sic)”
A third post featured the couple sharing a kiss and MIley wrote: “This is probably our one – millionth kiss. (sic)”
Liam shared the same kissing photo, which he captioned: “My love [heart emoji]. (sic)”
The celebrity couple had planned to wed over the festive season at their Malibu home, but after it was destroyed by the California wildfires, they shifted their celebrations to Tennessee.
A source recently said: “They always wanted a small, private celebration with family and close friends and that’s what they got. Miley seems ecstatic. She loves her Tennessee home and was very happy about having the ceremony there.”

The 33-year-old actress insists she’s never wanted to be a man, but in one specific situation, she feels it would make her life considerably easier.
Keira explained: “Almost every character I’ve played has tried to break out of that image of femininity.
“That’s why I like period films, because it’s such an overt cage you put the woman in. That’s always something I’ve really identified with. I feel like I sit somewhere else.
“I’ve never wanted a penis. Apart from to p**s up a tree. Being able to do that standing up: so convenient. You can just whip it out and whatever.
“But the idea of something so vulnerable swinging between my legs, I think I’m all right without.”
Meanwhile, Keira also revealed she was ignorant about the sexual assault allegations surrounding movie producer Harvey Weinstein before they became public in 2017.
The actress said that while Weinstein was widely regarded as a “bully”, she wasn’t aware of the other accusations.
Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, the ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ star shared: “I absolutely knew he was a womaniser, because you could see it. But I thought that was consensual, and I’d never heard he’d raped anybody.
“Everyone knew he was a bully because he would scream and shout. But it wasn’t obvious he was doing what he was doing with the bathrobe and the massage and the pot plant. The pot plant!”
Keira also admitted the allegations have created other knock-on problems.
She said: “There’s a time [women] should be standing up and howling and making as much noise as possible, saying: ‘Hey, this system doesn’t work for one half of us.’
“But that it makes it very difficult for men to speak and I think there may be some things we don’t want to hear.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Palin has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours list.
The 75-year-old actor is set to become the first member of the world-famous ‘Monty Python’ comedy group to receive the accolade, which is a title awarded by the Queen for service to the United Kingdom.
He said: “I have been a knight before with my ‘Monty Python’ colleagues.
“So it’s not the first time I’ve been a knight but this is, I suppose, the real thing. And I’m very surprised!
“What I feel very, very proud about is really that it’s partly from travel, from geography.
“And the international aspect of the work I’ve done.
“I feel that that’s very important nowadays when we tend to be sort of, boundaries and horizons are shrinking.”
Michael – who became a CBE in 2000 for his TV work – is being recognised for his service to travel and culture following his career as a writer and presenter of documentaries, which have taken him all over the world and most recently to North Korea.
But the ‘Life of Brian’ star revealed that while he is ecstatic about the accolade, he has plans to have a “quiet celebration” with “just myself and a glass of Horlicks and then go to bed”.
Meanwhile, the iconic model Twiggy has been made a dame for her service to fashion, the arts and charity.
The 69-year-old star – who rose to prominence in the 60s – admitted she’s still in a state of shock.
Twiggy – whose real name is Lesley Lawson – said to the BBC: “I travelled the world as a fashion ambassador.
“I’m a proud Brit. So this is a wonderful, wonderful honour I can’t believe it really. I haven’t quite touched the ground really.”
Elsewhere, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, ‘Dunkirk’ director Christopher Nolan, broadcaster Chris Packham and actress Sophie Okonedo have all been awarded CBEs in the New Year Honours list.
Actor Jim Carter and actress Thandie Newton have both been made OBEs by the Queen.
