Jeff Daniels to star in new BBC Two drama The Looming Tower

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Daniels is to star in new BBC Two drama ‘The Looming Tower’.
The 64-year-old actor has signed up for the 10-part series – based on the novel by Lawrence Wright – which tells the story about the rising threat of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s.
The series follows members of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Langley Virginia, and explores the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA as they explore the world, fighting for ownership of information while trying to prevent attacks on the US.
Sue Deeks, the BBC’s head of programme acquisition, said: “Brilliantly weaving archive footage with tense and compelling drama, ‘The Looming Tower’ is a fascinating and illuminating deconstruction of the personalities and events that ultimately led to the horror of 9/11.”
Jeff plays John O’Neill, chief of the Squad who are convinced that their country has been targeted for an attack by the terrorist group.
John and his sidekick, Muslim-American FBI agent Ali Soufan (Tahar Rahim) face poor support from their counterparts within their CIA team, who are led by antagonistic Martin Schmidt (Peter Sarsgaard).
As the story unravels, Martin and Diane Marsh (Wrenn Schmidt) hide information from the FBI as they believe the CIA is the only government group equipped to take on terror threats from overseas.
Members of John’s team then travel to investigate the bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, then the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen, while following leads in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
The professional and personal worlds come to a head as Al-Qaeda operatives in the US launch their terrorist plans.
‘The Looming Tower’, which will air on BBC Two this spring, is executive produced by Dan Futterman, Alex Gibney, Lawrence, Craig Zisk, and Adam Rapp.

Sir Tom Jones hints at The Voice return

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tom Jones has dropped a strong hint he will return to ‘The Voice’ next year.
The 78-year-old singer hinted that once he has completed his self-titled tour, which kicks off in America at the end of April, he will reappear as a coach on the popular singing contest.
Speaking on Monday’s episode of ‘This Morning’ (01.04.19) alongside his two acts Bethzienna Williams and Deana – who will appear in Saturday’s (06.04.19) much-anticipated final – he said: “[In] less than two weeks, by the time we’ve finished ‘The Voice’, I’m going to do a bunch of shows in America and then come back and do a European tour after that towards the summer and then back on ‘The Voice’ again, I think.”
Tom explained that he loves appearing on the singing show because it doesn’t feel like work, but the ‘Delilah’ hitmaker finds it hard to not “leave things until the last minute” because it’s become such a “habit”.
He said: “No [it’s not work]. It’s the truth, you’ve just got to be there on time, that’s the only thing that is regimental about show business.
“You think ‘OK, what time is it?’ The light goes on and you’ve got to appear on television and deliver.
“I’m always leaving things to the last minute, it’s a habit. It’s a great life and somebody said, ‘Is it hard work’ and I said, ‘Look I haven’t worked since 1962,’ really doing a job of work that you don’t like in order to make money, which most people have to do, singing to me is like breathing, you’ve just got to look after it.”
The ‘Sex Bomb’ hitmaker also insisted that he “could hardly speak” when Deana performed a stunning rendition of Eva Cassidy’s ‘Autumn Leaves’ on last weekend’s semi-final because the tune reminds him of his former wife Melinda Trenchard who tragically died in 2016.
He said: “The song means a lot to me, I’ve always liked it. I recorded my first album when I was 24 so I’ve always loved the song, when you’ve lived a while songs seem to mean more because you’ve lived.
“And that song always reminds me, because my wife passed away, and I was thinking all those things in my mind. And she nailed it! I thought I’ve got so much to say and she got to me and I just listened to it and I could hardly speak!”

Annie Mac tackles gender inequality at AMP London Conference

OHMYGOSSIP — Annie Mac says women shouldn’t feel “pressured to rise up to levels of testosterone” to get their “point heard”.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ hosted a panel discussing gender inequality at her AMP London Conference Day at the Moth Club in Hackney, London on Friday (29.03.19), where she was joined by industry folk, including NME editor Charlie Gunn and Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis.
They each discussed their experiences as females in the male-dominated industry, with the chat entitled ‘Where Are All The Female Bosses?’, and Annie recalled a conversation she had with Wolf Alice frontwoman Ellie Rowsell about how she shouldn’t have to “shout” to be heard.
Annie – who recently teamed up with Smirnoff and the PRS Foundation’s Keychange to take charge of their Equalising Music campaign – said: “I remember interviewing Wolf Alice and I remember her saying ‘I don’t want to have to speak in the language of men.
“I don’t want to have to shout, maybe I want to whisper, and I still want to get my voice heard, I think that should be OK.’
“I think that’s a really interesting conversation the idea of women feeling pressured to rise up to levels of testosterone to get your point heard.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if we can all sit round and have a cup of tea and make massive decisions.”
Meanwhile, Emily – who curates the Glastonbury line-up with her father Michael Eavis – also opened up about the lack of female headliners at festivals and admitted the problem is that there isn’t a “big enough pool of artists at that level” altogether, whilst she highlighted how important it is that a “conscious effort” is made to “push the women through”.
She said: “There aren’t enough female headliners, there isn’t a big enough pool of artists at that level.
“We’re having to try and get people out of retirement in order to play.
“My dad keeps going ‘what about the chaps’!
“There aren’t that many blokes coming through either, but we need to make a conscious effort to push the women through.
“We love taking not obvious headliners and putting them on the Pyramid stages, but we don’t have enough -we need more women to choose from.”
AMP London took place over four-days in the British capital and included industry panels and performances from the likes of Sam Fender, Mahalia and Two Door Cinema Club.

Sophie Turner feels empowered as Louis Vuitton ambassador

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Turner says being an ambassador for Louis Vuitton is “empowering”.
The 23-year-old actress is representing the French fashion house alongside Catherine Deneuve, Michelle Williams and Alicia Vikander, and the ‘Game of Thrones’ star has revealed that she “loves” the way the brand’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière views women because it’s similar to the character’s she has previously portrayed.
She told the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I love the way he sees women. His clothes are like the characters I gravitate towards: warrior women. They are strong and empowering but also beautifully feminine.
“It’s very exciting to be part of that crew. I like that he doesn’t choose people with that aesthetic that’s so popular on social media – the Instagram-model look of huge lips and skinny, long legs. He likes women to be a bit different, not your typical perfect Kardashian.”
And the blonde beauty explained that she also loves to feel like “someone else” by playing “dress-up” when she is on the red carpet.
She added: “I love to go on a red carpet and wear something that makes me feel like someone else. I want to be able to play dress-up.”
Sophie got engaged to Joe Jonas in October 2017 and she has revealed that the relationship started because he messaged her on Instagram “out of the blue”.
She shared: “We had a lot of mutual friends and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time. We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”
And Sophie revealed that she wants to keep her upcoming nuptials “low-key” and “intimate”.
She said: “He’s lovely. He’s just the funniest. You wouldn’t expect he’s about to turn 30 this year. He’s the most fun, energetic, positive person I’ve ever seen. I’m pessimistic, so we balance each other out. We’re trying to keep it [our wedding] as low-key as possible so it’s more of an intimate thing.”

John Challis has car vandalised by ‘mindless’ thug

OHMYGOSSIP — John Challis has hit out at a “mindless little rat” who smashed his car windscreen, resulting in him having to fork out £312 to fix the damage.
The ‘Only Fools and Horses’ actor – best known for playing dodgy used car dealer Aubrey ‘Boycie’ Boyce in the classic sitcom – has had some unfortunate luck with his own motor, after he returned to his car to find one of the windows had been destroyed, but, fortunately, nothing was stolen from his vehicle.
He wrote on Twitter: “Some mindless little rat smashed in my back windscreen-didn’t take anything inside, just did it for fun I guess.Havin’a larf I http://guess.Read the reviews for NCP Pembroke Road,West London @ you’ll see it happens every day. Thanks to @Shukers_LR Ludlow for fitting a new 1 (sic)”
Several social media users took to Twitter to sympathise with the 76-year-old actor, including his former on-screen wife Sue Holderness, who portrayed Marlene Boyce in ‘Only Fools’.
She tweeted: “How horrible…. so sorry (sic)”
John also revealed there was little chance of catching the perpetrator because there was no CCTV in the car park, and admitted the new windscreen set him back an eye-watering £312.
He tweeted: “No CCTV! In an NCP carpark?! An official complaint sent by me and the Ideal Home people. Not even an acknowledgement from NCP. Who should I contact?Anybody know? £312 to replace the screen. (sic)”
John’s disappointing start to April comes less than a month after he was dealt yet more bad news in March when his cat Mortimer sadly died.
The ‘Green Green Grass’ star informed his followers of the upsetting news last month, describing the beloved family pet as his “loyal friend for twenty years”.
Sharing the news on Twitter, he wrote: “Sad day for me. Mortimer has gone. Our loyal friend for twenty years.
“Laid him to rest in Dukey’s kennel in Elgin’s shed where he used to sit for hours waiting for unsuspecting meeses. (sic)”

Katie Price hates her body

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price thinks her body is “disgusting”.
The 40-year-old former glamour model – who has five children, Harvey, 16, Junior, 13, Princess, 11, Jett, five, and four-year-old Bunny, from previous relationships – has gained 11kg and developed cellulite and “dimples down there” and hates looking in the mirror.
She said: “I’m normally 52kg, now I’m 63kg. I’ve never, ever, ever had to worry before.
“Everyone used to say, ‘You wait till you get to 40 – it’ll all change’ and I said, ‘Nah, I just eat what I want.’
But overnight it’s just changed. I’ve got dimples here and there. I have put on weight and I look disgusting at the moment.
“It’s going to change.”
And asked what she sees when she looks in the mirror, Katie told ‘Loose Women’: “My mum.
“Cellulite, I’ve got dimples down there, you guys must have seen pictures of my in my bikini.”
While the reality star has joined a gym in a bid to combat her weight gain, she hasn’t actually used the workout facilities yet.
She admitted: “I need to go to the gym now, I’ve signed up but I’ve just been going for the spa.”
Though she’s unhappy with her weight at the moment, Katie is feeling like much more of a “free spirit” following a difficult 2018.
She said: “I feel like more of a free spirit again. Things are so different. Last year was the worst ever but you can get through it, especially this mental health stuff everyone is talking about.”
Last week, Katie sparked speculation she had forgiven Jane Pountney, her former best friend who had an affair with her then-husband Kieran Hayler, after posting a string of quotes on Instagram about forgiveness.
While the blonde beauty insisted Jane wasn’t the target of her messages, she admitted she is looking back on the past differently.
She said: “I didn’t name the person because that’s for me to know. I would never – it’s not I’d never forgive and forget, you learn to deal with things. There’s stuff I want to go back and address just for my own head.
“Last year I had such a bad year but this is going so well I’ve had time to think about things and I don’t want to hold grudges, it came make you ill.”
Asked if she was talking about Jane, she said: “No. But that that person knows who it is. I want to keep it private.”

Barbra Streisand loves British dishes

OHMYGOSSIP — Barbra Streisand “loves” British “pasties”, “roast beef” and “Yorkshire Puddings”.
The 76-year-old singer has always been baffled by criticism of traditional English cuisine and admitted that when she was directing ‘Yentl’ in the UK in 1983, she made sure filming stopped for a cup of tea and both sweet and savoury snacks
every afternoon.
Speaking on BBC Radio Two’s ‘Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on Monday (01.04.19), she said: “I love London… I never understood why many years ago people said the food in London was not great, and I came and I thought my Yorkshire Pudding, my roast beef, everything that they made, my pasties…
“When I was making ‘Yentl’ in England, 4 o’clock every day we stopped for tea and scones and pasties. I mean, if I love it, I have to share it with my cast and crew!
“Every day we’d have tea – I think it’s the right thing to do, to stop for tea. And scones of course, with clotted cream!”
The Oscar-winning actress also insisted that she puts the cream on last when she prepares her scones, but prefers to use “mashed strawberries” instead of jam because she prefers their “freshness” and finds preserves too sweet.
She added: “Well I hate to tell you this but I don’t use the jam. I use mashed strawberries. Because I love the freshness.
“I think jams are too sweet sometimes so I use fresh strawberries mashed up and then I put that on the scone, and then I put the clotted cream on.
“Actually sometimes I reverse it so you know I cannot tell a lie – sometimes I do the cream first and then the strawberries. But most of the time the strawberries first and then the clotted cream.”
Barbra also admitted that her assistant of 45 years regularly makes the British culinary classic shepherd’s pie.
She continued: “I have my assistant who’s been with me 45 years and she makes the erm… what do you call the thing we eat all the time? What’s it called? With the mashed potatoes on the top… shepherd’s pie!”

Bryan Cogman struggled to write Game of Thrones rape scene

OHMYGOSSIP — Bryan Cogman found writing Sansa Stark’s rape the “hardest thing” he’d ever done on ‘Game of Thrones’ because he “loves” the character.
The Lady of Winterfell’s ordeal at the hands of her sadistic new husband Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) sparked controversy when it aired in the fifth season of the show and while the producer-and-writer still stands by the scene, he admitted it was difficult to script but his biggest priority was ensuring actress Sophie Turner felt comfortable while shooting her torment.
Bryan said: “Sansa’s wedding night was the hardest scene I’ve had to write.
“Hard for me emotionally, because, believe it or not, we actually love the characters we write about, that we spend our entire lives with; and it was very hard on the day because I was the producer on set. It was about making sure Sophie felt comfortable and getting the right tone.
“The reaction? I’m proud of it and wouldn’t change a thing. I’ll defend that scene until the day I die. And her story’s not over …”
The HBO fantasy drama has also attracted criticism for its extensive nudity but Bryan insisted it is never gratuitous and producers simply go with what feels “organic to the scene”.
He told the Sunday Times magazine: “The spectacle is one thing but it always comes down to the characters: these families and these relationships and what they want. That’s what keeps people invested in the show
“It’s not like we sit and think, ‘Oh, we haven’t had any breasts for two episodes.’ The story is just told as it’s told. Whether it’s the graphic violence, whether you have a scene where a head comes off on screen or it’s a cutaway, it’s what feels organic to the scene.”
Meanwhile, Sophie also recently defended the inclusion of the rape scene.
She said: “I think the backlash was wrong because those things did happen. We can’t dismiss that and not put it in a TV show where it’s all about power — and that is a very impactful way to show that you have power over somebody.”
And the British star felt “emotional” when her “empowered” alter ego orchestrated for Ramsay to be eaten alive by his own dogs.
She said: “It made it a really great storyline. Killing him with the dogs, that was the most satisfying scene. It made me so emotional because I’ve been waiting so long for her to stand up to the people who have done her wrong.”

Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s AIDS activism gave her a ‘sense of purpose’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s granddaughter says her work as an HIV/AIDS activist gave her “a sense of purpose”.
The iconic actress was the first ever person to host a fund-raiser to benefit the AIDS Project Los Angeles and in 1991 the late star founded The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) to raise awareness and to provide support services for people with HIV/AIDS .
Elizabeth’s granddaughter, Naomi deLuce Wilding, has now shared that although the ‘Cleopatra’ star loved being an actress, once she “found activism” she has a clear sense of purpose and had “made sense of her passion”.
In an interview with People, Naomi said: “She spoke of it as being something that finally gave her a sense of purpose; she spoke of being relatively ambivalent about her fame and her acting career. She loved it, but when she found activism, it really made sense of her passion.”
“She was one of the first celebrities to get up and not only do things like start a foundation, but to be so outspoken.
“She had a role in creating that expectation that we have now for celebrities to a certain extent. I think she’d be proud of herself.”
To mark their fifth year as a partner with AIDS United, the ETAF will partner with AIDSWatch 2019 for the two-day advocacy event in Washington, D.C. from Monday (01.04.19) and Naomi thinks that the collaboration is “one of the most beneficial things” the organisation has done.
She said: “It’s one of the most beneficial things that we as a family for ETAF have done, it keeps us involved. It makes us also feel like we’re part of a community, which is really important to us.”

Danny Miller hits out at ‘pervert’ for filming him in gym shower

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Miller has started a petition for recording lights to be introduced on iPhones after a “pervert” filmed him while he was having a shower in a gym changing room.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actor was left flabbergasted after a “little scrubber” shot video footage of him while he was washing himself down and getting changed, and admits if he ever did the same to a fan it would be a career-ending move.
The disgruntled star wrote on Twitter: “How would you go about petitioning for @Apple @AppleSupport to introduce a RED RECORDING LIGHT on the back of iPhones so that people in the public eye can tell when a little scrubber is trying to record them without their KNOWLEDGE or PERMISSION to do so?? Can anyone help??
“I’m happy to meet people. Just not when trying to get showered and dressed in a gym changing room and you’ve some pervert who’s too f**king thick to turn the auto flash light off.
“Happens all the time. Imagine me doing that to someone..
“Front. Page. News. Career done (sic)”
Apple then suggested the Dales star should mark his grievance in an online comment form on their website, and Danny called for others to do the same.
He tweeted: “Done. If anyone has two minutes can they do the same?
RED RECORDING LIGHTS on the back of Apple products, whilst recording. In order to allow all people, especially people in the public eye and media, that they are on record.
Please RT. Thanks in advance. (sic)”
‘Coronation Street’ stars Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) and Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) also admitted they had been subjected to similar situations.
Alan tweeted: “I am constantly amazed but the amount of “adults” who think it’s acceptable to take photos without even speaking to you …. and even worse when I’m with my daughter!! (sic)”
Kym wrote: “Someone took one of me while I was in a&e with Polly once!!! x (sic)”
Danny admitted he had also been targeted by a supporter while in hospital.
He wrote: “Had it literally a week ago in the hospital with my Dad whilst on record..

Kerry Katona reveals Atomic Kitten girls have all kissed

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerry Katona has kissed her Atomic Kitten bandmates.
The 38-year-old star wasn’t surprised by Mel B’s recent claim that she had a night of passion with her Spice Girls bandmate Geri Horner because, although she has “never been down there with a woman”, she and her fellow Kittens, Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton, once locked lips with one another to see who was the best kisser.
Writing in her New! magazine column, she spilled: “I chuckled when I heard Mel B say she’d had sex with Geri Horner back in the day. It doesn’t surprise me. Once in Atomic Kitten, we all snogged to see who was the best kisser. I’ve never been ‘down there’ with a woman But we thought it would be funny to kiss on the mouths. Liz won, by the way.”
Kerry – who has five children from her three marriages – was dropped from the group in November 2017 but claims she still has “no idea” why she’s been excluded from their plans.
She said: “Speaking of the girls, I was gutted to hear they’re doing a Stepback! Arena tour with the likes of 5ive and East 17.
“I wasn’t invited! I don’t think the girls will ever want to work with me again and I still have no idea why. But it sounds like a fun gig and I genuinely wish them all the best with it.”
The split came following a personal appearance by Kerry in Manchester in 2017, when one person referred to Natasha and suggested she “lose the ginger”, Kerry answered: “I’m not being funny, Atomic Kitten – I always saw her as toxic ****!”
Just hours later, she wrote on Instagram: “Gutted that I am no longer apart of Atomic Kitten!! Wish the girls all the love and happiness in the world!! Was very proud to be the founder member of AK! Had some amazing times with the kittens! And gutted not to be apart of that no more! I guess I’ll keep to knock knock jokes from now on (sic).”
However, Natasha later denied the claims she wanted Kerry out.

KAtie Price’s mother applies for drug trial

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price’s mother is hoping to try an experimental drug in a bid to halt the progression of her terminal illness.
Last year, Amy, 64, was diagnosed with the irreversible lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and she’s applied for a place on a medical trial in a new bid to treat the disease.
Appearing alongside Katie on ‘Loose Women’, she said: “I’m hoping to go on a research drug as well because it’s not going to do me any harm is it?”
During the winter months, Amy moved out to Spain and found the warmer climate made her symptoms “much better”.
She said: “In January I was suffering so much with the cold weather, can’t go near people with colds, so I thought, ‘I’m gonna go to Spain, I’ve got friends who live there and they found me a little apartment on the sea.’
“[I felt] much better, I don’t cough over there. Over here even now if I go out walking I’ll do 2000 steps but over there I’m doing 1000 because the air is warmer, it’s dryer.”
Amy may eventually need a lung transplant but has been told by her medical team she is currently “too healthy” to be put on the list of those in need of organ donation.
She explained: “I’m not too bad, I went for tests this week with the transplant team, my lung function tests have dropped a little bit but that’s to be expected with what I’ve got.
“They do other tests for all the other organs to prepare for when you need a transplant. I’m not on the list yet but they look at everything to make sure you can cope with it and they are still 100% fine, so at the moment they said I’m too healthy, go and enjoy yourself, you’re fine.”
While Katie was initially emotional on hearing her mother had a “terminal” illness, she’s now able to joke about it.
She quipped: “I say, ‘I thought you’d have gone by now but you’re still here for a few years.’
“I was crying [when she was diagnosed] and I couldn’t cope, when you hear terminal, but no, she’s still got lots in her, she’s still moaning at me…
“She still nags me every day, on Facetime or whatever. The moment I know she’s really ill, she won’t be nagging me.”

Coleen Nolan: Kim Woodburn feud ‘did me a favour’

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Nolan says her feud with Kim Woodburn has done her “a favour”.
The 54-year-old took a three-month break from ‘Loose Women’ last year following a furious on-air row with her former fellow ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ housemate, but she says the whole situation has been a blessing in disguise because she was able to take time out, and is now “in a great place”.
Coleen told new! magazine: “I don’t like to dwell on or remember that time. I needed to take time out of the spotlight and prioritise what was really important, which is my family and friends and the people who wish me well.
“I was going through a bit of a hard time anyway with my divorce and I was trying to sell my house, and it all got on top of me.
“But the whole thing did me a favour because taking time out has put me in a great place. I’m loving life and loving my job.
“No one can expect to be liked by everyone, so I will aim not to let it bother me if it ever happens again.”
Coleen has sons Shane, 30 and Jake, 26, with her first husband Shane Richie, and a daughter Ciara, 17, with her second husband Ray Fensome, who she divorced recently.
Despite splitting from her husband, the TV star says the pair are currently “good friends” and have a strong bond because they raised a child together.
She said: “We are genuinely good friends. We’re much better now than we were in the last couple of years of our marriage.
“He comes round to see Ciara and sometimes stays over – in the spare room, may I add. He’s always really supportive of what I do.
“It’s much better than being at each other’s throats. And how can you hate someone you’ve spent 17 years and had a child with?”

Daisy told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “People ask me if I’d like to write a drama about Harry and Meghan but I actually think I would like to write about Carole Middleton.
“Carole has an extraordinary story. She is a very, very interesting woman and she deserves a series.”
Carole still asks her kids for “advice” when it comes to her Party Pieces business, which sells supplies for a range of themed bashes.
She previously said: “My children have all worked for the business. Catherine started the First Birthday brand – she chose the products and looked after all the imagery and the catalogue production. Pippa set up the blog, as we didn’t have one.
“James came up with the idea of personalised cakes and got them off the ground for us. Because they all grew up with me working, Party Pieces has been very much part of our lives and what we talked about. I still ask their advice and say ‘What do you think of this?’ ”
Party Pieces sells supplies and decorations by mail order, but Carole started the company by making party bags in 1987.
