Matt Evers: Gemma was told she could leave Dancing On Ice early

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins’ ‘Dancing On Ice’ professional partner Matt Evers has defended her from claims she left the show 15 minutes early on Sunday night (13.01.19) because she was “bored” and has claimed she was told she could go by a member of the stage management team.
The ‘TOWIE’ star was accused of unprofessionalism by ‘Dancing On Ice’ host Holly Willoughby on ‘This Morning’ this week after the daytime show’s backstage reporter Kem Cetinay claimed that The GC left before the group skate on the live show because she’d had enough.
Holly’s comments upset Gemma greatly and now her partner on the ice Matt, 42, has leapt to her defence insisting she was instructed by a member of the backstage team on the ITV programme that she was free to go after her car arrived to take her home.
Appearing on ‘Lorraine’ on Wednesday morning (16.01.19), Matt said: “We weren’t performing a competition number this Sunday, we just had the group number, and after the group number she thought she was free to go. That was just a miscommunication between stage management, her and everything. She got a text from her car that had said your car has arrived, and she asked somebody – whom I’m not sure – and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’re finished.’ ”
Matt also laughed off reports that Gemma, 37, had a nap during the rehearsals before the live show.
He stated: “Gemma did not have a nap. Look, we all want to take a nap on Sundays, I wish I could have a nap on Sundays. we’re there all day Saturdays for rehearsals we’re there first thing on Sunday, we do camera blocking all morning, then we do a dress rehearsal all afternoon.”
Matt insists Gemma is working really hard to master her next “fantastic routine” and the pair have a double training session planned for today to get everything right on the rink.
He said: “She’s coming into the rink today, we have a double session planned, we had Tuesday off so I haven’t seen her yet this week. But we have a fantastic routine planned for her.”

Sophie Faldo wants to return to the Army

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner Sophie Faldo is heading back to the Army.
The 34-year-old former British Army officer – who was the winner of the eighth series of the hit show – is planning to return to working for the military, because she loves being on tour.
Sophie told The Sun’s Bizarre TV column: “It is similar to the job that I have done in the past and it involves dealing with different kinds of artillery.
“I know it sounds really mad but actually I don’t like not going on tour.
“Now I want to go out on tour again and the job that I want to go into is quite frontline and back in Afghanistan, so I hope that I will get it.”
The brunette previously served in Helmand Province in 2009 and 2010 as a captain in the Royal Artillery and has applied to resume the role that she left in 2015.
After leaving the Army, she worked as a personal trainer, taught military boot camps, and was training to be a stuntwoman before her boyfriend David urged her to apply for ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
Sophie admitted that winning ‘Bake Off’ helped her very little financially as the show does not given its winner a cash prize.
She said: “I did rely on my other half a bit and it was tough. It was not a typical year – far from it.”
However, Sophie also previously admitted she could have missed out on winning ‘The Great British Bake Off’ altogether as both she and one of the runners up, Steven Carter-Bailey, missed the original application deadline.
She said: “I actually missed the deadline.
“I said, ‘Oh well, I wasn’t going to get picked anyway,’ and then they extended the deadline. I think Steven missed it too.”

Megan Barton Hanson: Vanessa hasn’t treated me like Danielle

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Barton Hanson was disappointed Vanessa Bauer didn’t reach out to her after discovering she was close to Jake Quickenden’s ex Danielle Fogarty.
The former ‘Love Island’ star hit out at the ‘Dancing on Ice’ pro skater for not inviting her to see boyfriend Wes Nelson train, and she was particularly upset after finding out Vanessa “made friends” with her former celebrity partner Jake’s then-fiancée Danielle during the last series of the ice skating show.
She told The Sun Online: “In the past Vanessa has been there and made friends with Jake’s ex-fiancé Danielle.
“They were a team and worked together while Jake was on the show but she hasn’t acted in the same way towards me.”
Megan’s latest comments come after the 24-year-old star accused Vanessa, 22, of trying to come between her and Wes, 20, and she accused her of a “tactical break up” after announcing her split from partner Louis Nathaniel just hours before Sunday’s (13.01.19) live show.
She wrote on Instagram: “@Vanessabauer_skates love that you decide to announce your breakup with your boyfriend on the night of your 1st performance with my boyfriend!
“You’ve never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night, you didn’t even look me in the eye LOL.
“Hope the tactical breakup got you the headlines you wanted babe. @wesnelson (sic)”
Following Megan’s claims, Vanessa shared a message of empowerment but didn’t directly reference the blonde star’s comments.
In the post, Vanessa wrote: “Because whenever I’m on the ice everything is good again, I’m so grateful for yesterday’s voting window number.
“There is nothing in the world I am more passionate about and that makes me happier than figure skating! Last night’s number was an absolute dream.
“I can’t thank everybody enough for all the love and support #strongwoman #DancingOnIce #womenempowerment (sic)”.

Danny Glover to star in Jumanji sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Glover is to star in the ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ sequel.
According to Variety, the 72-year-old actor has been lined up for a role in the highly-anticipated follow-up to Sony Pictures’ 2017 movie family action romp, which was itself a sequel to the 1995 original movie ‘Jumanji’, that starred the late Robin Williams and was based on the 1981 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.
News of Glover’s casting follows the recent addition of Danny DeVito and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ actress Awkwafina, with the trio joining returning stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan who are all reprising their roles from the last movie.
Johnson is thrilled to be working with comedy king DeVito admitting his the ‘Twins’ star’s casting has got him very excited.
The former WWE wrestler said: “The magic of ‘Jumanji’ is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas.”
Plot details for the new movie are not yet known, but the original book and 1995 movie both told the story of a magical board game in which wild jungle animals came into the real world.
In ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’, that concept was updated by making the game into a video game and having four teens transported into its world, where the kids then transformed into avatars portrayed by Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan.
Directed, written, and produced by Jake Kasdan – who also helmed ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ – the sequel will be co-written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner and co-produced by Matt Tolmach and Johnson’s Seven Bucks.

DJ Khaled joins Bad Boys sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — DJ Khaled has confirmed he’s joined the cast of ‘Bad Boys for Life’.
The 43-year-old music producer is set to join Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the long-awaited third installment of the much-loved buddy cop franchise.
Khaled posted on Twitter on Tuesday night (15.01.19): “NEW MOVIE ALERT! Blessed to announce that I will be joining #WillSmith and #Martinlawrence in the cast of @badboys #BadBoysForLife movie. May I remind you, it’s only Jan 15th, 2019. Y’all have no idea what’s coming. I’m coming for the Oscars!! God Is The Greatest!!! (sic)”
Will and Martin are back as their respective alter egos Detectives Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett, whom they first portrayed in 1995 film ‘Bad Boys’ and 2003 sequel ‘Bad Boys II’.
Khaled will join the sequel’s newcomers Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio, and Paola Nunez in the action flick.
Jacob Scipio is set to portray the head of a drug cartel, Armando Armas, who is on a mission to take down Lowry.
Nunez is play the Miami Police Department’s elite AMMO team’s newly recruited head, criminal psychologist Rite, who is also a former love interest of Lowry.
A description of the synopsis reads: “The new instalment centres on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Scipio), head of a drug cartel.
“Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature.
“He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike (Smith). (Paola) Nunez will take on the role of Rite, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend – and the one who got away.”
Production for the highly-anticipated flick is already underway with ‘Bad Boy’s veteran, Jerry Bruckheimer, returning as a producer alongside Doug Belgrad .
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to direct the sequel from a script by Peter Craig.

Victoria Beckham buys £1,200 face cream made from own blood

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham uses an anti-ageing face cream made from her own blood.
The 44-year-old fashion mogul has splashed out £1,200 on a moisturiser by Dr. Barbara Sturm, which she discovered when visiting Sturm’s clinic in Dusseldorf, Germany, last week.
Sharing a picture of the product on her Instagram story, she said: “Dr Sturm took my blood and created healing factors made by my own cells, which is highly anti-inflammatory and regenerative. I’ll be testing it out this week both morning and night!”
Dr. Sturm was part of a medical discovery known as the “Kobe Procedure”, where a patient’s own blood cells are used to produce proteins which jumpstart the healing process and help to rejuvenate skin cells.
This principle is applied to her famed face cream, Dr. Barbara Sturm MC1, where a patient’s blood is drawn, then spun into a custom-blended cream for each patient, spawning the so-called ‘Vampire Facial’ name.
The former Spice Girl – who has children Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, and Cruz, 13 and seven-year-old Harper, with husband David Beckham – discovered the product while taking her daughter for a ‘baby facial’ at the clinic.
The fashion designer filmed Harper being pampered at the luxury clinic, with the caption: “We MUST use CLEAN products on our children. (sic)”
Victoria has a sweet bond with her daughter and often posts pictures of them enjoying quality time together.
The star shared footage of her youngest child’s “chic” hair transformation on Instagram Stories over the weekend, writing: She is going short … Beyond CUTE!!! … This haircut is everything (sic)”

Spencer Matthews admits ‘soft spot’ for Piers Morgan

OHMYGOSSIP — Spencer Matthews has a “soft spot” for Piers Morgan.
The 30-year-old reality star appeared on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Wednesday morning (16.01.19) with his wife Vogue Williams, where he urged fans to vote for the breakfast show at the National Television Awards, and revealed his affection for the controversial host.
Appearing via video link from St Barts, alongside wife Vogue, he said: “I’d like to say guys I don’t know about you but Piers and Susanna [Reid] and the whole team at ‘Good Morning Britain’ certainly brighten up our mornings. I think they deserve a vote at the National Television Awards.”
Piers, 53, then joked with the former ‘Made in Chelsea’ star, suggesting GMB’s National Television Award nomination is “all about him”.
To which Spencer quickly replied: “I have to say I have a bit of a soft spot for you Piers.”
The ‘Spencer, Vogue and Baby Too’ star then added, jovially, that his and Vogue’s four-month-old son Theodore, was in fact named after the presenter.
The first episode of the couple’s new reality show was aired last week (07.01.19), on which they openly discussed everything from their sex life to dilation and the new show saw Jake Quickenden accidental try 33-year-old Vogue’s breast milk while helping babysit their son
The 30-year-old singer – who has been friends with pair since they met on Channel 4 reality show ‘The Jump’ in 2017 – was disgusted when he had a taste of her milk admitting it was “awful”.
Spencer told him to try it on his hand, but Jake replied: “But this is out of Vogue isn’t it? It smells weird. Have you tried it? What did you think?”
Spencer admitted: “I wasn’t particularly impressed with it to be honest.”
The former ‘X Factor’ contestant tried it anyway but quickly stuck his tongue out before wiping it.
He said: “That’s awful.”

Rose McGowan hid sexuality

OHMYGOSSIP — Rose McGowan hid the fact she dated women as she feared she wouldn’t be accepted in Hollywood.
The activist and former actress – who was one of the first to speak out against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein – is currently in a relationship with non-binary model Rain Dove and has admitted that though she has dated both men and women in the past, she previously felt she had to “isolate her private life” as her sexuality may not be accepted in Hollywood.
Asked in an interview with Pink News whether she had ever had to conceal her sexuality, the former ‘Charmed’ star responded: “Yeah, definitely, being in Hollywood. I was already labelled a weirdo and a freak by their standards. And I had been homeless once in my life and I was terrified of being homeless again. So I just kept my nose down and kept working, and isolated my private life. It was definitely something that, you didn’t want to be caught in a photo, you didn’t want to, you know, have someone writing about it.”
The 45-year-old actress went on to compare the difference between the music and film industry and stated she feels it’s easier to reveal who you are in the world of music.
She said: “Singers are fine to come out, there’s no problem in the music industry. They’ve progressed to, like, ‘We’re just people, this is who I love, this is what I do.’ But it hasn’t really come out that way in Hollywood, no.”
Rose explained her view that gay actors haven’t been open about their sexuality due to “fear that if they come out it would limit their roles.”
She added: “But the only way it’s ever going to change is if someone does it … I think the public would be fine … I think we’ve grown up enough that we can handle it. I think it’s Hollywood that can’t.”

Aretha Franklin honoured by host of A-listers at tribute concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Aretha Franklin was honoured at a star-studded tribute concert.
A hoard of A-list celebrities such as Alicia Keys and Celine Dion took the stage to pay homage to the late Aretha – who died last year at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer – to relive the Queen of Soul’s biggest hits in a live tribute concert on Sunday (13.01.19).
Certain family members – including her grandson who spoke at her funeral – attended the event which was held in Los Angeles and hosted by filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry.
Jennifer Hudson, who will star in Franklin’s biopic ‘Respect’, kicked off the tribute performing ‘Think’ followed by Alicia, 37, performing a duet of ‘Day Dreaming’ with singer-songwriter SZA, who said she was “blessed” to be there.
Celine received a standing ovation for her rendition of ‘A Change is Gonna Come’, while Fantasia, Andra Day, Brandi Carlile and Alessia Cara came together to sing ‘Natural Woman’.
Common and Yolanda Adams performed ‘Young, Gifted and Black’ although the rapper inserted his own politically-charged rap lyrics into the 1972 hit.
Smokey Robinson took a moment to remember the soul legend while on stage, adding: “She was a gifted songwriter, a fantastic musician and a great formidable activist.” For me, she was my little sister who I loved so much. I still love her so much. But she’s gone home now to be with her father. I believe she has been reunited with her entire immediate family.”
Other performers included Shirley Caesar, Kelly Clarkson, Chloe X Halle, H.E.R., John Legend and BeBe Winans.
The tribute was put on by the Recording Academy and music mogul Clive Davis insisted that “there will never ever be another Aretha Franklin”.

Chris Hughes’s brother Ben to have testicle removed

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hughes’s brother Ben Hughes will have his testicle removed next week after he was diagnosed with cancer.
The former ‘Love Island’ star’s sibling found out earlier this month that he had testicular cancer after discovering a lump hours after Chris underwent a live TV testicular examination, and Ben will have the testicle, which has nut-sized ball on, taken out, next Wednesday (23.01.19), and will soon find out if the cancer has spread.
He said: “I’ve just got a nut-sized ball on my testicle. Quite large.
“I had a CT scan and I haven’t picked the results as of yet, and I will then find out if the cancer has spread into any other parts of my body.
“Fingers crossed it hasn’t spread.
“I’m booked in for my operation next Wednesday to remove the testicle, so I’m just wanting these CT scans to come back good and I can get this out.”
What’s more, Ben has been told his sperm count was “very negative” after he underwent some tests ahead of freezing his sperm.
He explained: “I did my first sperm banking the day before yesterday and my doctor rang me that evening and said, ‘I think you should know, the tests we did on your sperm weren’t great. Your semen sample came back with a very negative sperm count, if any at all.’
“That pretty much means I’ve got no sperm present in my semen at that time.
“They’re going to do another test tomorrow and hopefully with a bit of luck it shows up some results.”
Ben thanked his brother for doing the live examination on ‘This Morning’, which led to his diagnosis.
He said: “Within seven weeks of me checking myself to getting my diagnosis that I have got testicular cancer, it’s remarkable really.
“He’s the one to thank in all of this. Because if he didn’t do it I would still be in the dark now.”
Speaking in a joint interview with Ben on ‘This Morning’ today (16.01.19), Chris said: “It’s all been a bit of a blur, It’s remarkable really.”
Chris recently thanked the morning show for allowing him to do the live TV examination.
He said: “I just want to thank ‘This Morning’ for allowing me to come on the show to do the live testicular examination the other month.
“It’s very important for me and we had a bit of sad news yesterday that my brother has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
“He popped into my room the day after he did the live examination saying he’d checked himself and he found a lump.”

Liam Gallagher Definitely Maybe doing something for album anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has hinted he plans to mark the 25th anniversary of Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’ with a special gig.
The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker’s brother and former bandmate Noel Gallagher has repeatedly insisted he has no intentions of getting back with the group, but the 46-year-old singer is open to commemorating the milestone with other members, including rhythm guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs – who frequently joins Liam on stage at his solo gigs – and original bassist Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan.
Asked if he’ll mark the anniversary of the band’s debut album, he said: “Who knows? I love having bonehead around, he’s a good craic, but as for having him in full-time, f**k that, I couldn’t handle it and vice versa.
“Been there, done that. I’ve not heard from Guigsy for a long time, I hear he’s still in London.”
Drummer Tony McCarroll – who left the group in 1995 – also worked on the record but he’s unlikely to be a part of any reunion as he sued the band in 1999 and ultimately agreed an out-of-court settlement of over £500,000 that also saw him give up all future royalties.
Liam spent several months last year working on his second solo LP – a follow-up to 2017’s ‘As You Were’ – and is pleased with the results.
He told Q magazine: “I’ve been in and out of the studio all year and it’s sounding really good.”
The ‘For What It’s Worth hitmaker has also set his sights on landing the coveted Christmas number one single this year.
He said:” I’d love to do a Christmas single – I may have to speak to my army of songwriters to get one cooked up for next year.”
However, the former Beady Eye frontman is staying tight-lipped on the rest of his plans for the next 12 months.
He teased: “That’s for me to know and you to find out.”

Travis Scott spoke with Colin Kaepernick before agreeing Super Bowl deal

OHMYGOSSIP — Travis Scott spoke with Colin Kaepernick before agreeing to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.
The ‘Astroworld’ rapper has faced criticism for agreeing to join Maroon 5 on stage at the flagship NFL game next month, with some stating he shouldn’t perform in protest for the former San Francisco 49ers player – who was exiled from the NFL for his #TakeAKnee movement, which saw him and several other players refuse to stand during the national anthem at games in protest against police brutality and racial injustice.
However, sources told Variety that Travis had “at least one” phone conversation with the sportsman before he confirmed his appearance, and though they did not necessarily agree, they ended the chat with “mutual respect and understanding.”
The 26-year-old rapper is said to have taken the stance that everyone makes a statement in their own way, and he felt the £500,000 donation he and the NFL agreed to make to non-profit social-justice organisation Dream Corps, as well as the platform of the Super Bowl, would do some good.
According to the insider, Travis refused to confirm his participation until the agreed donation was locked in.
The ‘Sicko Mode’ hitmaker admitted when the donation was announced that he hopes his performance can “inspire” and praised the work of Dream Corps., who support support economic, environmental and criminal justice innovators.
He said: “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in.
“I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”
Big Boi will also join Maroon 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on February 3.

Camila Cabello gets back to work

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello has resumed work on her new album.
The ‘Havana’ hitmaker revealed back in October she was taking a Thanksgiving break to be with her family and then planned to get started on the follow-up to her debut solo LP ‘Camila’, and she’s now told fans she’s writing again and feels “lucky” to be making music.
She tweeted: “1st day back to writing the new album- I feel so lucky that I get to do this every day. This was my dream when I was younger, getting to make songs everyday and now I’m here. I’m reminding myself of that every single day this year (sic)”
The 21-year-old singer previously spoke of how excited she is about the “next chapter” in her career.
She wrote on Instagram: “I don’t have words to express how excited I am about things coming up next year, and imagining this next chapter and writing this next album.”
The former Fifth Harmony star loves the fact she’s been able to connect with so many of her fans while out on the road.
She added: “Touring around these last 6 years has been the most magical chapter of my life. The 10 year old in me is still running around with her arms in the air screaming at everything that’s happened.
“Singing for thousands of you beautiful people, getting to know you and talk to you, seeing the world…. I’m more in love with life and with all of you than I’ve ever been.”
However, Camila also revealed she was going to make the most of the time with her family, and a chance to embrace everything she’s been missing out on.
She said: “I’m also sooo excited for the holidays and for what my heart’s been aching for these last years being away from home.
“Movies with my family. My dad’s tacos. Waking up in the middle of the night and getting cereal from the refrigerator. Sleepovers with my little sister.
“Talking to my grandparents about their life. FINALLY getting my dog Thunder to LOVE ME because he barely knows me right now.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West is “flattered” that fans get cosmetic surgery to look like her.
The ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star thinks people should celebrate what makes them an “individual” but she also just wants them to do what makes them happy, and if that means taking drastic measures to resemble her, she’s “fine” about it.
A fan called into ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ and asked Kim: “Do you ever get freaked out when people get plastic surgery to look like you?”
After some laughter from her sister Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian, Kim replied, “I think people should do whatever makes them happy. And I think that people should also like be themselves and be an individual.
But I’m flattered that that is something that they think, you know, that attracts them. That they’d want to look like [me]…
“I just want them to be happy. So if that’s what makes them happy, honey, we can all use more beauty in the world. It’s fine!”
For fans who don’t want to take drastic action to look more like Kim, the 38-year-old star – who has children North, five, Saint, three, and Chicago, 11 months, with husband Kanye West – recently shared some of her daily make-up routine, explaining she swears by Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist [$48] to set her concealer.
She said: “If you guys only saw the under-eyes that I have – well you are seeing them.
“I like to really warm up my face and I think a big step in that is concealing. If i’m doing may make-up in the mirror or on the go, I take a sponge and use this Tatcha [skin mist] and I take the concealer and put it on my eye too.
“When you are a mum, you have no time to blend like this so unless I’m at work and getting my hair and makeup done, I do not have time to blend all day so i try to do it as quick as possible.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya’s Tommy Hilfiger collection is inspired by her grandpa’s wardrobe
The 22-year-old actress has teamed up with the designer for an exclusive Spring 2019 TommyXZendaya range and she’s “re-created” her relative’s old shirts to be part of the selection.
Opening up about her list of favourite things to America’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine, Zendaya said: My Grandpa’s work shirts, they’re my most favourite clothes I’ve ever owned. I actually re-created them for the TommyxZendaya collection.”
‘The Greatest Showman’ actress was delighted to have been given “creative control” over all aspects of her collection.
She said: “When I was first presented with the opportunity, I was told that Tommy Hilfiger himself wanted to talk to me about it. And sure enough he was on the phone, explaining how he wanted me to be as creative as I wanted.
“He told me how I would be able to truly have creative control from concept to clothing, down to the font on the packaging. I was in heaven when I showed up with my inspiration boards and a million ideas, and I was allowed to just go for it, with all the support in the world.”
Zendaya was delighted to be able to turn to her stylist Lee Roach for help and support with the collection.
She added: “I really lean on him, and I partnered with him creatively for this collection. I met him when I was 14, and it’s been just us ever since. He really understands my taste, partly because he helped me develop it. I’ve learned so much about fashion history from him. One year I asked him to find me a bunch of vintage Tommy gear so that I could dress up as Aaliyah for Halloween. Because of the close relationship we have, I know he will always keep it real with me even if it’s hard. You need those kind of people.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Natasha Lyonne wants modern female TV characters to spend less time getting dressed up.
The ’39-year-old actress has co-created ‘Russian Doll’ for Netflix – in which she will also play the lead character, who finds herself reliving the same day in a mysterious loop that she has to figure out – and it was important for her to keep the wardrobe simple so the female stars can spend more time doing “other things”.
Speaking to InStyle, Lyonne said: “I love dressing up as much as the next guy when it’s appropriate. If I’m on my way to a Chanel event or going to some party with [long-time friend] Chloë Sevigny, I’ll put an outfit on and I’m over the moon about it.
“But, for example, when I think back to how many pencil skirts they had to deal with on ‘Ally McBeal’, I love the idea of a modern woman on a TV show not having to spend all her energy changing back and forth all day. It gives you a lot more time for all the other things you want to be doing.”
The ‘Orange is the New Black’ actress is embracing the years ahead of her and while she’s not even 40 yet, she’s already getting excited about her 50s.
Opening up about what she’s looking forward to in the next decade, she said: “I guess turning 50, which nobody really leads with. I heard it’s the new 17 [laughs]. Honestly, I’m just confused that I’m not 40 yet. Nora Ephron [You’ve Got Mail] didn’t even direct her first movie until she was 50. I don’t throw the patriarchy around as much as I should, but I think it’s kind of a false idea that the teen years and the 20s are the best for women. In the 30s, 40s, 50s — that’s when the magic starts happening.”
