Sally Carman’s 14-year Coronation Street wait

OHMYGOSSIP — Sally Carman had 10 screen tests and “about a million interviews” for ‘Coronation Street’ over 14 years until she finally joined the soap.
The 37-year-old actress made her debut as Abi Franklin in 2017, and the former ‘Shameless’ star admits it was a hard slog trying to win a part on the cobbles, but she was delighted when she finally did.
She said: “I acted with Julie Hesmondhalgh [Hayley Cropper] on a radio play a while back, and I didn’t know I’d be in ‘Corrie’ years after that.
“I’d been trying since I was 23. I had 10 screen tests and about a million auditions, but I finally got here.
“Julie was delighted for me when I told her.”
Despite harbouring a dream to act in Weatherfield, Sally wasn’t nervous when she first stepped foot on the set, because she felt “at home straight away”.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: “It was the weirdest feeling as I walked into the ‘Coronation Street’ building and was on set – I felt at home straight away.
“I’ve never been so comfortable in a job.
“I wasn’t nervous, that’s the weird thing. As soon as I walked in, I just thought to myself, ‘I’m all right here.’ ”
Sally has previously revealed she was turned down for three other parts, characters Kate Connor (Faye Brooks), Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) and former cobbles resident Andrea Beckett (Hayley Tamaddon) in her attempts to land a role on ‘Corrie’.
Speaking about the role of Abi, she said: “I got a phone call offering me six episodes. I didn’t have to audition and I, of course, said yes. But there has been legwork put in before then.
“I had something like 10 screen tests over the years for different parts.
“Shona was one of the roles I auditioned for, as was Faye Brookes’ character Kate Connor. And Hayley Tamaddon’s character; I was up for that as well. But Abi was worth waiting for.”

Richard Madden didn’t like ‘Seventies’ hair for Elton John biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madden admits his “Seventies” hair in the Elton John biopic was “not fun to live with”.
The 32-year-old actor plays the role of John Reid, the superstar’s manager and love interest, in musical drama ‘Rocketman’, which follows Elton, played by Taron Egerton, from his years at the Royal Academy of Music as he chases stardom.
The ‘Game Of Thrones’ actor confessed that he wasn’t a fan of his dyed black hair, which was “very long”, and his eyebrows, which looked like they had been “Sharpied in”.
He told A List: “My hair in that movie is very long and very Seventies. It was dyed very black along with my eyebrows, which was not fun to live with. I looked like my eyebrows had been Sharpied in.”
The ‘Cinderella’ actor shares a sex scene with Taron, 29, in the new movie.
And he explained that the intimate scene was an “essential” part of telling Elton’s story.
He said: “You just have to get on with the job. The film is about every aspect of Elton John’s life, and part of that is his sexuality. It’s all done in a way that is essential to the storytelling.”
Richard also hailed the work of director Dexter Fletcher, telling fans of the chart-topping pop star that the biopic will be “great”.
He said: “It’s expected in May and it’s amazing. It’s a real look into the man and outstanding storytelling. Dexter Fletcher is directing and it’s going to be a great piece of film.”

Perrie Edwards thinks Jesy Nelson’s new beau ‘seems really nice’

OHMYGOSSIP — Perrie Edwards hasn’t met Jesy Nelson’s boyfriend Chris Hughes – but says he “seems really nice”.
The Little Mix band member and former ‘Love Island’ star confirmed they are dating when they were spotted kissing in a takeaway in south London, last week, but Perrie is not willing to “spill the beans” on her bandmate’s relationship.
When asked by Roman Kemp on Capital Breakfast if she has met the 26-year-old hunk, she replied: “Nope, I haven’t.”
When a shock Roman replied: “You haven’t met him yet? He’s a lovely boy”, she said: “Yeah, no, he seems really nice but I can’t spill the beans on my best friend I’m afraid.”
Roman was wondering whether or not the couple will make their red carpet debut at the BRIT Awards on February 20.
He had started off by asking: “Are you allowed to bring dates to the BRIT Awards?”, to which Perrie replied: “Yeah of course! We get one ticket each.”
He then explained: “Now the reason why I ask this, Perrie, is that we have to obviously bring it up – there was a rumour that there’s a new man in Jesy’s life, a friend of the show, Mr Chris Hughes?”
The new couple were seen smooching in a kebab shop in the Elephant & Castle area, following a date at ‘Harry Potter’-themed magical bar The Cauldron in the UK capital.
After having drinks, the pair decided to get some food from the nearby eatery, but they couldn’t resist having a kiss and they even playfully poked their tongues out at one point to have a naughty lick of each other’s tongues.
Although it is said to be “very early days” between Jesy and Chris an onlooker on the night insisted the pair were “really affectionate” and could barely concentrate on their food.
An onlooker said: “They couldn’t keep their mitts off one another. They kept pausing mid-sentence to snog, and were really affectionate. It may be early days but there’s definitely a real spark.”
The ‘Woman Like Me’ hitmaker has been single since splitting with Harry James last November and Jesy was previously engaged to Rixton star Jake Roche from July 2015 until late 2016.
Chris found fame and love with Olivia Attwood on the 2017 series of ‘Love Island’, with the couple finishing in third place.
However, outside of the villa the couple’s relationship hit the rocks and they split in February 2018.

Harry Reid ‘shocked’ at Ben Mitchell recasting

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Reid was “shocked” to find out ‘EastEnders’ were recasting the role of Ben Mitchell – because he was told they wouldn’t be doing so.
The 26-year-old actor – who played the character from 2014 until January 2018 – was informed by the soap’s bosses that Max Bowden would be the sixth actor to take on the role, just one week before the news went public on Monday (21.01.19).
He said: “They told me that they were going to recast him about a week before it was announced.
“To be honest, I was shocked because I didn’t expect that they were going to recast the role. I was told that they weren’t going to recast.”
However, Harry insists he wasn’t “upset” by the news, but it does spell the end of his time in Albert Square, which he admits is “a shame” and “frustrating” because he loves the character.
He added to Digital Spy: “At the same time, it didn’t upset me, which is what a lot of the fans are saying.
“This is business and this is the game that we’re in. The acting industry is very cut-throat.
“I’ve said before that I didn’t come into this industry to play one part, because I love exploring different characters’ lives and personalities.
“All it’s done is closed that door fully, whereas before it was half open. But doors do close and then other ones open.
“It is a shame and it is frustrating because I still love the character of Ben. For me he’s one of the most exciting characters to play on the Square.”
Harry has wished Max well in the role, but some fans have poked fun at the news after the character was recast for a sixth time.
Comedian Matt Lucas took to Twitter this week to joke he is “next week’s Ben Mitchell”.
He wrote on Twitter: “Thrilled to announce I’m next week’s Ben Mitchell (sic)”

Steph Waring is ‘more grateful’ since Iraq visit

OHMYGOSSIP — Steph Waring is trying “to be more grateful” in life after visiting Iraq.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actress visited refugee camps in Iraqi Kurdistan with her charity Bring Hope Humanitarian last year, and since returning from the region she has “definitely changed personally”.
She said: “I’ve been to Iraq with my charity, Bring Hope Humanitarian Foundation to visit the refugee camps out there and that was a real privilege to do.
“I’ve definitely changed personally since doing that and I’m trying to be more grateful for everything that I’ve got.
“Also, I’ve just been spending time with my girls and on myself really, by giving myself the space that you need when you’re working so much. It’s always nice to rejuvenate yourself, get fit and be kind to yourself, when you’re away from the set.”
Steph – who plays Cindy Cunningham on the Channel 4 soap – recently vowed to return to the area in 2019, because she wants to help the refugees “any way” she can.
When asked if she head back to the region, the 40-year-old actress said: “Absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt I will be back next year.
“I want to continue this, I really want to fight for them, and help in any way I can.”
During her visit, Steph spoke to Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad’s sister, who told how her brothers were murdered and the women were sold as sex slaves after their village was invaded by ISIS.
Steph said: “I’ve come back with a sense of knowing now, because I was quite ignorant to what was going on in these war-torn countries.
“It’s not something I’ve ever thought about. It’s quite sad to think that.
“I’ve brought it home with me.”

Sir Patrick Stewart prepared for new movie by re-watching Excalibur

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Patrick Stewart re-watched his performance in ‘Excalibur’ to prepare for ‘The Kid Who Would Be King’.
The 78-year-old actor – who starred in the John Boorman-directed epic fantasy film in 1981 – thinks there are some obvious similarities between the hit film and the new fantasy movie.
Speaking about his research for the new flick – which follows a young boy who finds King Arthur’s legendary sword Excalibur – Patrick told Collider: “I’d watched ‘Excalibur’, because that was the first large-scale movie that I was ever in. That was 1981, and I wanted to see what themes in that movie would overlap with [writer Joe Cornish’s script] … and there were actually quite a few.
“Although I think ‘Excalibur’ was a little bit more harsh, perhaps, than ‘The Kid Who Would Be King’.”
Meanwhile, Patrick previously admitted he’s overcome the odds to establish himself as a stage and screen star.
The acclaimed performer explained: “Why did I find, at the age of 12, that Shakespeare was easy for me? I had the most basic, basic education, but my English teacher put a copy of ‘Merchant of Venice’ in my hands and I understood it and could speak it well from the very beginning.
“I came from a working-class family from the north of England. Nobody read Shakespeare … actually, that’s not quite true; my oldest brother did, but I didn’t know that for many years. And nobody in my family was an actor or performer.
“Why would I have this impulse and why would I find the stage such a safe place? ‘Cause it is. A lot of actors have acknowledged that.”

Richard E Grant remains tight-lipped about Star Wars role

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard E Grant isn’t allowed to tell his wife and daughter about his ‘Star Wars: Episode XI’ character.
The 61-year-old actor admitted that the spoiler security measures surrounding the much-hyped movie are so intense that he can’t even tell his wife Joan, 70, and daughter Olivia, 30, who he plays in the legendary franchise.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, he said: “I’ve never known anything like it – huge secrecy. I know it comes out on December 19 [and] I’m not even allowed to tell my wife and daughter the name of my character.
“They have security on the set plain clothes and visible, you have to wear a cloak from the trailers to going in the studio because they have drones going out overhead.”
The ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ star went on to explain that the cast isn’t even allowed to have a copy of the script, and are given select pages at the start of everyday, which they are required to read in a “big conference room” guarded by security.
He said: “You have to read the script in a big conference room that has guards outside with cameras. You get the pages that you are doing on the day you have to sign in for them and sign out for them at the end of the day, so it’s Fort Knox.”
The upcoming space opera film will be the third instalment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi’.

For their upcoming fourth studio LP ‘Half Way There’, the boys have returned to the pop/rock songs which made them stars and guitarist James admits they are very excited for their fans to hear the record.
Speaking on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on BBC Radio 2 on Friday morning (25.01.19), he said: “We are to the moon and back about this album, we are so excited. Matthew Lewis’ missing wallet has been found

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Lewis’ wallet has been returned to him.
The ‘Harry Potter’ star was left devastated when his purse, which contained an engraved letter from his wife Angela Jones, was lost earlier this week.
However, through the power of Twitter, the sentimental trinket and his money and bank cards have now been handed back to him after they went missing in East London.
The ‘Happy Valley’ star says he is feeling “humbled” by the help of his fans, who he has admitted he owes “a debt of gratitude”.
Updating his 1.44 million followers on Friday (25.01.19), he tweeted: “Wow. You guys are dope. Really humbled by this response. That got more pick up than any of my Brexit material. And guess what I have? My wallet! I did not expect that to happen. I owe you all a debt of gratitude and can’t thank you all enough. You’re amazing. This is a good day. (sic)”
The 29-year-old actor – who is best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the wizarding franchise – had said at the time he was willing to “call it evens” if the person who has it simply handed over the memento.
He wrote: “Yo, if you stole my wallet in East London yesterday or even if you just found it: it’s yours, keep it, have the money, the cards, the lot.
“But the note from my wife engraved on a piece of metal, if you can post that to the address on the driving licence I’d call it evens. Please?”
Matthew first met events planner Angela at a Wizarding World event at Universal Studios in Orlando, where she works, in January 2016, and he proposed to his spouse in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris that December.
The ‘Me Before You’ star confirmed they were married last May, in a humorous tweet in which he bemoaned missing out on watching Arctic Monkeys perform because he was too busy saying his vows.
Posting a picture of himself with his bride on the micro-blogging site, Matthew wrote: “Not only did I miss @ArcticMonkeys in LA but they were performing in Italy at the same time we were there and my wife made me get married instead. Fuming. (sic)”

Brian McFadden didn’t want to join Westlife reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian McFadden never wanted to be part of the Westlife reunion.
The ‘Dancing on Ice’ star was pleased for his former bandmates – Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily – when they announced that they were getting back together six years after they split for a new album and a huge tour.
Brian quit the band in 2004 and although he knows he could have made a lot of money from getting back with the boys he admits it never crossed his mind as they were together longer as a four-piece and released more records without him, so it wouldn’t be right.
When asked by Lucy Horobin on Heart Breakfast whether any part of him wanted to be back performing with the group, he said: “My accountant really wanted me to do it! He was really encouraging me to try and get in there but no. Not personally. Look I left the band in 2004. It’s a long time ago. And we even look different now. You know even our beards don’t match anymore so it wouldn’t have worked.”
Brian admits he does still speak to Nicky via social media but he’s not particularly close to the Westlife guys these days because they’ve all moved on.
The ‘Almost Here’ singer said: “I speak to Nicky on Twitter. They’re kind of like your other celebrity friends, because we follow each other on Twitter, we’re basically best friends now. So yeah I have the odd Twitter chat with Nicky but the rest of us haven’t. There’s no bad blood, it’s not like I don’t like them or … well I don’t know if they don’t like me, they probably don’t like me!
“It’s just one of those things, it’s like you go to college with people, when you leave college you don’t stay hanging out for the rest of your life, you move on. You know I’ve lived in Australia for seven years and we’ve lived in different countries, we have different friends and different lifestyles.”

Oli Sykes thought he was ‘going mad’ before rehab

OHMYGOSSIP — Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes thought he was “going mad” before going to rehab for his ketamine addiction.
The 32-year-old singer was in a “really bad place” before seeking medical treatment for his substance abuse issues back in 2014 and he admits his decision to get clean was a make-or-break moment for the metal band – also comprised of Lee Malia, Matt Nicholls and Jordan Fish.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, he said: “It was a wake-up call. I’d surrounded myself by people in a really bad place. I was hearing voices in my head and that was scaring me. I felt I was going mad. I never wanted to go back there. I’m so glad I got through it and am here today, looking forward.”
The ‘Mantra’ hitmaker – who is married to Brazilian model Alissa Salls – went on to explain how his split from his first wife Hannah Pixie Snowdon in 2016, after he found out she was cheating on him, influenced his songwriting on the group’s latest album ‘Amo’.
He said: “I found out about the affair because her emails were open one day. It was a huge shock. It messed with my head. I was like a zombie for a while and I was more worried about my ex than myself because I could see she was going through a hard time dealing with what they had done. There wasn’t really a lot of anger at first. But then that turned into denial and almost blaming me for everything
“That was when it got bad because I’d kept my mouth shut for this whole time and tried to help this person through it, but now she’s trying to drag me down because she can’t cope … Jordan kept saying to me all the time, ‘Why aren’t you writing about this?’ So I decided to write about it but not be angry.”

Katie Price accepts Peter Andre needed to take their kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price doesn’t “blame” her ex-husband Peter Andre for taking their children to live with him whilst she was “self-medicating” with drugs.
The ‘Mysterious Girl’ hitmaker had 13-year-old Junior and Princess, 11, living with him, wife Emily and their two kids for several months in 2018 whilst his former wife dealt with some turbulent times in private life, which included her mother Amy being diagnosed with terminal lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the split from her third spouse Kieran Hayler and legal problems which led to her using drugs to try and cope.
Katie thinks Pete – whom she split from in 2009 – was acting in his kids’ best interests but she is angry that it was Kieran who told him that she was struggling, which led to her losing her children.
However, the former glamour model says that she and Pete are now sharing custody of the kids once again now she is healthy and things are back to normal.
Appearing on ‘Loose Women’ on Friday (25.01.19), she said: “The kids are all back to normal. I don’t blame Pete for doing what he did in the beginning. My ex Kieran told him I was self-medicating, or whatever, and he acted like a dad does, but there’s more dramas there that I’m not going to go in to. But it’s all back to normal now, half and half. And it has been like that for ages now.”
Katie did receive treatment at The Priory rehab clinic for post- traumatic stress disorder, not for any drug or alcohol problems.
The 40-year-old star did speak to her doctor about her issue “self-medicating” with drugs after realising she was acting out of character, mainly due to her unhappiness with Kieran, but she was able to ditch the drugs without any held.
Katie – who has three other kids, son Harvey, 16, from her relationship with retired soccer player Dwight Yorke, and daughter Bunny, four, and son Jett, five, with Kieran – said: “My family and friends were really hurt and didn’t know what to do because for all the years I’ve been in this industry I’ve never chose that path, I did it purely to self-medicate. I went to the doctors and I said, ‘This isn’t me,’ and I told them the truth, I wasn’t really drinking I was self-medicating on drugs basically, which is disgusting but it’s my way of dealing with everything. I knew I needed help, at least I can go hold my hands up, I’m so glad I did because if I didn’t speak out I would probably still be in that rut now, I was in a manipulative marriage.”

Kris Jenner: I’m not planning to get married again

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Jenner isn’t planning to marry for a third time.
The 63-year-old showbiz matriarch has dated boyfriend Corey Gamble for four years, and she insists they’re happy to continue their relationship without ever tying the knot.
Appearing on Australian radio programme ‘The Kyle and Jackie O Show’, Kris – who was previously married to Robert Kardashian and Caitlyn Jenner – : “I think I’m so happy with the way things are right now. I’ve heard people say that in the past and you kinda go, ‘Oh, c’mon,’ but it’s true. We have such a good time and we’re very happy.”
In fact, Kris revealed that she and Corey never discuss getting married because they’re both busy with other things.
However, the ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star insisted they’re as happy as they’ve ever been.
She shared: “He couldn’t be a better person in my life for everything that goes on and what we do, because he keeps me grounded.”
Meanwhile, Kris previously claimed that her family have barely been able to relax since the first season of their reality show aired in 2007.
The TV star – who has kids Kourtney, 39, Kim, 38, Khloe, 34, Rob, 31, Kendall, 23, and Kylie, 21 – also admitted she has to “micromanage” the lives of her children.
She recalled: “We finished filming season one and before we had a day off they signed us for season two and we literally started filming a week later.
“I had to micromanage a family that was maybe going to say, ‘What?! Were exhausted, we’ve been filming, filming, filming’ – and I mean, yes, we were filming our normal, regular lives but it’s still stressful. You have to have that vision.
“That was where the whole Momager thing was born. I needed to be a mom and I needed to manage the entire family and the situation and where we were going from here.”

Anne Hathaway voices support for a host-less Oscars

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Hathaway thinks it might be “better to go with no host” at this year’s Oscars.
The Academy Award-winning actress believes the upcoming ceremony might actually benefit from having multiple presenters, rather than a main host, after comedian Kevin Hart quit the role amid a row about allegedly homophobic tweets he previously posted.
Anne – who hosted the annual awards bash alongside James Franco in 2011 – told ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’: “Sometimes it’s better to go with no host than force something that’s just not working.”
Anne, 36, and James’ hosting performance was widely ridiculed by fans and critics, many of whom described their on-screen chemistry as awkward.
The ‘Serenity’ star previously admitted to being stung by the backlash, but she’s also tried to keep the criticism in perspective.
She confessed: “My approach to all this stuff is really simple: we’re lucky. Whether or not it does well or it bombs, this is the stuff of dreams. This is not something to get upset about.”
Despite this, Anne – who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 2012’s ‘Les Miserables’ – believes she learned some valuable life lessons from the experience of hosting the Oscars
She said: “I think it might end up being a net positive over life. Well, the lessons that I learned, the life lessons about whom to trust and when to trust them, that’s going to be the net positive.”
Meanwhile, the actress has also extended her support to the LGBTQ community in light of the hosting row.
She explained: “I do just want to go on record and say the LGBTQ community needs all the allies in the world and deserves all the allies in the world.”

Katie Price recommends rehab

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price would recommend going to rehab to anyone because she learnt so much about herself as a person during her time at The Priory.
The 40-year-old star received treatment at the London facility last September after being diagnosed with post- traumatic stress disorder following her mother Amy’s diagnosis with incurable lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the breakdown of her marriage to third husband Kieran Hayler, a kidnap threat made against her 16-year-old son Harvey and the death of two of her pets.
Katie insists the experience was a completely positive one and the experts at The Priory got “to the roots” of the problems in her life.
Appearing on UK TV show ‘Loose Women’ on Friday (25.01.19), she said: “It’s amazing, if I could say to anyone go to The Priory I would. Because they taught me about assertiveness, they teach you about people around you, if they have served their purpose, if there is negativity and they get to the roots to where the problems have started, they do all of the traumatic stuff.”
Katie the catalogue of difficult events that led her to checking into The Priory left her reeling and would be a challenge for anybody to deal with.
The former glamour model – who is adamant she was not treated for drug or alcohol problems at the facility – said: “I wasn’t near anyone who was doing drink and drugs in The Priory. I was in there as they said … severe traumatic rehabilitation is what I needed. It was to do with all that had happened to me at the beginning of the year. So if you imagine in one year I got told my mum was dying, my dog got run over and killed on my driveway, my horse got killed outside my house, I had a kidnap threat with Harvey, I caught the ex-husband cheating again then obviously divorcing him, then I had the hijack where I was held at gunpoint in South Africa.”
Katie admits it was a pleasure to be back on ‘Loose Women’ following her extended break as a regular panellist and she is looking forward to a better 2019.
She said: “It’s good to be back, I’m feeling in a good place. Last year I obviously wasn’t but you can’t blame me, so much went on … So much for a human being to cope with.”
And Katie intends to move house in order to make a fresh start as she doesn’t need an 11-bedroom mansion anymore as four of her kids spend half their time with their dads.
She said: “I am re-evaluating my life and changing things for the good. I don’t need an 11-bedroom house, I have the kids half and half, and the other half I’m just with Harvey and he goes to bed at 7.30pm so I am in this house in the country on my own and I feel vulnerable. I just want a five or six bedroom house, new, everything done so I don’t have to worry about getting anything done.”
Katie has Bunny, four, and Jett, five, with Kieran, and Junior, 13, and Princess, 11, with first spouse Peter Andre.
