Melissa McCarthy struggled to comprehend her Oscars nomination

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa McCarthy initially struggled to comprehend her Oscar nomination.
The 48-year-old actress – who is in line for the Best Actress accolade for ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ – has admitted she could barely believe she’d been nominated when the news was first announced.
She recalled: “I got a call, and I immediately thought, ‘Oh my parents’ alarm went off,’ and I was like, ‘What’s the matter? Is everyone OK?’ And they’re like, ‘You’ve been nominated,’ and I’m like, ‘Is the alarm OK?’ And they’re like, ‘Oh for god’s sake! What are you talking about?’
“And then it gets kind of hazy and fuzzy and it takes a moment to process that.”
Melissa credits her parents, Sandra and Michael, for her tireless work ethic.
The comedy star – who has daughters Vivian, 11, and Georgette, eight, with her husband Ben Falcone – explained that they played a crucial role in her realising her dreams in the movie business.
Melissa – who also starred in the 2011 hit ‘Bridesmaids’ – told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “They were never not supportive. They were incredibly supportive, but they never were just like, ‘Everything you do is amazing. You’re built for magic and spun sugar.’
“It’s like, if you work hard enough and you put everything into it, why not you? And it may not be instant and it may not ever happen, but if you love it, keep doing it.
“And I think that’s the best thing, and I hope to pass on to my girls. I don’t think it helps to just tell someone, ‘You’re just better.’ You have to work at it and you need to hear, ‘Work really hard and then you’ve got as good of a chance as anybody else.'”

Sofía Vergara shares Valentine’s Day plans with Joe Manganiello

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello give each other gifts “for everything”.
The ‘Modern Family’ star and the ‘Magic Mike’ actor will definitely be giving each other presents on Valentine’s Day (14.02.19) because they like to spoil one another regardless of the occasion, although it doesn’t have to be anything “crazy expensive”.
She said: “We give each other gifts for everything it doesn’t have to be anything crazy expensive but we do like to give each other little things here and there.”
The ‘Hot Pursuit’ actress also explained that she’s “very easy to gift” and loves to receive practical presents like pyjamas – and if Joe is really stuck for ideas, there’s never been a pair of shoes she didn’t like.
She said: “What woman has everything really, what woman has everything, really? There’s never a pair of shoes I didn’t like.
“I like things that are actually practical, that I am going to use and enjoy… I love when people give me pyjamas, that’s something you always need… I like stuff like that… I am very easy to gift.”
When it comes to the romantic holiday, the 48-year-old actress isn’t yet sure how she and her 42-year-old spouse will be spending the day because she usually leaves Joe to plan the details of their celebrations.
Speaking to ‘Extra’, she said: “Usually Joe plans all the romantic things like that because usually what we do is a dinner reservation or a little trip somewhere close so he takes care of that.”
Meanwhile, Sofia also insisted that her husband is a big fan of her new denim clothing line for Walmart, since “they cradle the butt”.
She said of the jeans: “They’re Joe’s favourite.”

Kacey Ainsworth: EastEnders abuse plot had ‘physical impact’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kacey Ainsworth says her ‘EastEnders’ domestic abuse storyline had a “physical impact” on her.
The 50-year-old star admits the hard-hitting plot – in which her character ‘Little’ Mo Slater was regularly attacked by her husband Trevor Morgan (Alex Ferns) until she fought back, resulting in him being arrested – used to leave her “very upset”, so much so she would still be in tears while driving home after a long day on set.
She said: “When I was on ‘EastEnders’, they’re long days, they’re 12 hour days and they’re six days a week. So, I was being Mo longer than I was being myself, and I do think they do have a physical impact. I mean, I would be going home in the car, I would still be sobbing and still would be very upset, to kind of have opened up whatever door there was in there and used all of that and I would still be crying.
“And then I’d begin the next morning, I’d be up at five to be in the next morning and they’d have to turn me upside down on the makeup chair and put cold spoons on my eyes to try and get my eyes to go back to normal so that I could shoot a scene in the café where I gave Dot a bacon sandwich or whatever.
“So it was relentless and it was hard, but you were always aware that you were playing someone else.”
Kacey left the role in May 2006 and now stars as Cathy Keating in ITV period crime drama ‘Grantchester’, in which her alter-ego recently faced sexual harassment from a horrible colleague.
Speaking on the Series Linked TV podcast, she added: “What you get is the same thing. People saying, ‘I had a boss like that,’ or saying it’s really awful that she doesn’t have anywhere to go, I hope that someone will be able to help her.
“And they don’t really know how the story gets resolved or if it does get a resolution. So I would imagine that after that, you’ll probably get a lot more comments about it.”
Last month, Kacey admitted she has “talked about” an ‘EastEnders’ return, and would be “interested” in the possibility.
She said: “We have talked about a return.
“I am interested in what they think might have happened to Mo in this time, and the Slaters were such a fun family to be part of.
“It’s just at the moment it’s been completely nutty and continuing to be that way.”

Armie Hammer has white privilege

OHMYGOSSIP — Armie Hammer admits his career has been helped by “white privilege”.
The ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor understands that “guys like [him]” have advantages just because of their birth but he insists he has also worked hard to be as successful as he is.
He told the new issue of Britain’s GQ magazine: “There are white people who exercise their white privilege with or without knowing it and I would be foolish to sit here and say, ‘Well, that has nothing to do with my career.’
“I can’t sit here and say that.
“But also, people must be aware of the work ethic it takes.
“I get it. Guys like me have got a lot from being guys like me. Even if white privilege does have anything to do with it, there is a lot of work I put into this.”
The 32-year-old actor – who has children Harper, four, and Ford, two, with wife Elizabeth Chambers – grew up in a wealthy family but was determined not to be someone who relied on his rich background to get by.
He said: “It was a conversation I had with myself: you can be this person or you cannot. I would rather not. It wasn’t about cutting ties or bonds with my parents or anything like that. It was about strengthening myself.”
Armie has been an outspoken critic of social media users and admits he doesn’t understand “millennials” who share their feelings about particular moments or events with selfies.
He said: “I am a millennial. You’re right. I totally should. And I can’t say I am not a millennial, but I’m not a millennial.
“I don’t get it. It doesn’t resonate with me. I don’t know why millennials will go to a wedding and take a picture of themselves on the dance floor and then post it on social media and be like, ‘Congratulations to Sarah and Jeff, so happy for you guys!’
“Just what the hell is that? That just doesn’t make any sense to me.”

John Barnes defends Liam Neeson

OHMYGOSSIP — John Barnes believes Liam Neeson “defends a medal” for his controversial comments about his violent feelings of revenge.
The former soccer star – who suffered racist abuse during his sporting career – has spoken out to defend the 66-year-old actor after he admitted he deliberately tried to get into a fight with a black person so he could “kill” them after a female friend or relative was raped.
John told Sky News he respected Liam for his admission and claims that everyone is an “unconscious racist”.
He said: “I think Liam Neeson deserves a medal. I’ve listened to the whole interview transcript and he was talking about his film ‘Cold Pursuit’ and how, having been brought up in Northern Ireland, he understands how destructive revenge can be.
“You can’t blame (him) for thinking what he feels – and this was a while ago – because society and the media had shown him this is what black people do. So he said, in that moment, for a week, he was looking around to ‘kill a black person’. He went on to say was that he was ashamed and horrified by the way he felt…
“As much as people are now jumping on this bandwagon of how terrible it is, what he has done is come out and he’s told the truth.
“The big problem we have is when people are afraid to admit the way they actually feel…
“I have more respect for him now than if he had come out and said ‘I view all black people as equal, I just view everybody as equal’.
“I always say, we are all unconscious racists. And he said, unconsciously for a week and a half, that’s how he felt. We have people who have been doing it and keeping it quiet for 20 years, but as long as you don’t admit it then we think everything is okay.”
He added the ‘Taken’ star was the victim of a “witch hunt” and dismissed claims the actor’s movies should be boycotted.
He said: “So let’s take down that statue of Winston Churchill… who is a white supremacist and a mass murderer…
“How is Churchill a hero when he spoke about… he believes in gassing the lesser races. But he’s a hero. And when Liam Neeson comes out and he admits that he was wrong in what he did, whereas Winston Churchill would never admit he was wrong, never, and if he was alive now he would still believe in the superiority of the Aryan race.
“But Liam Neeson – someone who admits that, after a week and a half of thinking what he thought, he was wrong, which is fine as far as I’m concerned, we’re now pillorying him.”
He went on to suggest Liam’s comments were “positive” and the actor “should be applauded” for his admission of being “an unconscious racist”.
He added: “People are going to be afraid of admitting it now because of what’s happened to Liam Neeson.”
Liam made his candid confession when describing his reaction when the female acquaintance confided in him about being raped.
He said: “I asked, did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.
“I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some ‘black b*****d’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him.
“It took me a week, maybe a week and a half, to go through that. She would say, ‘Where are you going?’ And I would say, ‘I’m just going out for a walk.’ You know? ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘No no, nothing’s wrong.’ ”
The ‘Schindler’s List’ actor admits his shocking confession was “horrible” and he eventually learned a lesson from his “awful” attitude.
He said: “It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that. And I’ve never admitted that, and I’m saying it to a journalist. God forbid. It’s awful. But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the f**k are you doing,’ you know?”

Lorna Laidlaw returning to Doctors

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorna Laidlaw will return to ‘Doctors’ to direct.
The 56-year-old actress will depart the BBC daytime drama in her role as receptionist Mrs Tembe next week, but she will not be away from The Mill for long as she plans to step behind the camera, and she hopes to helm episodes on a “regular” basis.
She said: “I’m going back to ‘Doctors’ to direct, and I’m going to be in the building when my last episode as Mrs Tembe airs, on 13th February. That, in itself, is going to be really emotional.
“I’m really glad, because I don’t want to lose contact with my people. I’ve spent more time with them in the last eight years than I have with my own family, so it’s a massive wrench to leave them. I know so many of them personally.
“Hopefully, I’ll get to direct regularly, and they’re going to keep dragging me back. But it’s also about what other work you get, and whether you can fit it all in.”
Lorna admits it took “every bit of strength” she had not to break down in tears during her final ‘Doctors’ scene, but she didn’t have such control when filming had finished, admitting she cried for half an hour afterwards.
She added to What’s On TV magazine: “In the very last scene, Mrs Tembe gives advice to everybody, and it took every bit of strength I had not to burst out crying.
“I really didn’t want to cry because it’s a positive thing that she was going to, and it wasn’t sadness for her but excitement. But when they said ‘cut’ I just blubbed for about half an hour.”
While Mrs Tembe will swap Birmingham for Newcastle with her fiance, Rev Gordon Clement, the actress previously admitted she would love Denzel Washington to play her love interest.
Quizzed on who she would like her receptionist alter-ego to hook up with in 2015, she replied: “No question, Denzel Washington!
“You never know, he might be looking through the internet and see me and think ‘That lady is hot!’.
“I think it would be awesome, he would love it. You never know, me and Denzel.”

Duchess Catherine shares family photo with children

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine shared a family photo with a group of London primary school children.
The Duchess of Cambridge – who was previously known as Kate Middleton before she married Prince William – visited Lavender Primary School in Enfield as part of Children’s Mental Health Week on Tuesday afternoon (05.02.19) and showed them a photograph of her family because they “make her feel happy”.
The 37-year-old royal attended the school as patron for Place2Be, a children’s mental health charity, and during a game of show and tell, she showed them an autumnal picture of herself and her husband seated on a log alongside their three children, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, eight months, in the grounds of their country retreat, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk, and explained how the photo made her feel “very happy”.
Speaking to the children, Catherine said: “I’ve got something. It’s not very big. Do you want to see it?”
Kate pulled the treasured picture out of her bag and continued: “This is a photograph of my family. These are my children and this is my husband. And my family makes me feel happy. And we like playing outside together and spending lots of time together as a family. And that makes me feel very happy.”
The royal then joined Year 6 pupils for a food diary activity, which assesses the links between food choices, mood and feelings, and was greeted by the school’s choir in the playground.
Kensington Palace wrote on Twitter: “The Duchess of Cambridge met parents at Lavender Primary to hear their stories of the various parenting challenges they face and how they have managed to keep them and their children healthy. #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek (sic)”

Lupita Nyong’o went on silent retreat

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o “treated” herself to a 10-day silent retreat for her birthday.
The 35-year-old actress was always interested in meditation and, after promoting ‘Black Panther’ and attending a string of awards ceremonies, she felt getting away from all distractions was the “best gift” she could offer herself.
She said: “Meditation is something I’ve always been interested in. It always has felt a little mysterious and out of my reach. Right after ‘Black Panther’ came out, the day after the Oscars, I went on a 10-day silent retreat.
“It was a gift. I did it for my birthday. And it was the best gift because, the thing is, my job has two main parts. There’s the acting, and there’s the celebrity. And the celebrity involves a lot of giving.
“After talking so much, and just expend, expending, expending, to sit with myself and just listen. Our lives are so full of distractions; you go from one distraction to another.”
Lupita admitted the retreat was tough and she “constantly” thought about leaving, but after forfeiting her phone, signing an agreement to stay and stranded without a car, she was determined to stick it out.
She admitted in an interview with America’s Marie Claire magazine: “I was constantly wanting to leave and then daring myself to take one more hour and another hour. And oh my God, it was crazy and beautiful, because after the 10 days, it wasn’t talking that I missed…
“The heart of the programme is about unclutching from attachments to pleasure and aversion, the idea that we attach to things that we love and to things we dislike.
“And our identities are built on assembling these things to basically write the stories of our lives, but learning to unclutch from that control makes it easier to live, to exist.”
The ‘Us’ actress followed advice from a friend to listen to a favourite album after she left the retreat, and the experience gave her a new appreciation for Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn’,
She recalled: “The friend who recommended I go said, ‘Do yourself a favour and right after you get out, listen to an album you love.’
“And I listened to Kendrick Lamar, his album ‘Damn’. Usually I listen to music and it’s backdrop. But after that retreat, I was able to focus solely on that and for it to fill my existence in that moment. I listened to him on the flight back to New York.
“I loved the music, but rap sometimes comes at me too fast and I’m not really able to hear it fully. But this time, I heard every word Kendrick Lamar said. I heard the musicality.
“I heard instruments I’d never heard before. It was like clarity. And I was just, like, wow. I imagine that people sometimes get that from drugs. But it was really nice to get that just from spending time with myself.”

Madonna to receive Advocate for Change Award at GLAAD Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna will receive the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.
The Queen of Pop will be presented with the honour to recognise her work raising awareness of the HIV and AIDS crisis and international LGBTQ issues at the annual LGBTQ ceremony, which is set to take place this year on April 12.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis described the ‘Like A Virgin’ hitmaker as the “LGBTQ community’s greatest ally” and the organisation cited her AIDS benefit concerts, her benefit dance marathon and her “action at a time when AIDS was too often invisible in the media.”
She said in a statement: “Madonna always has and always will be the LGBTQ community’s greatest ally and it is only fitting to honour and celebrate our biggest advocate at GLAAD’s biggest event ever.
“From the HIV crisis to international LGBTQ issues, she fearlessly pushes for a world where LGBTQ people are accepted.
“Her music and art have been life-saving outlets for LGBTQ people over the years and her affirming words and actions have changed countless hearts and minds.”
The 60-year-old pop icon will be the second person ever and the first woman to receive the award after former president Bill Clinton, who was bestowed the honour in 2013.
The organisation announced its annual nominees last month including nods for romantic comedy ‘Love, Simon’, period drama ‘The Favourite’, and comedy ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.

Liam Neeson: I’m not racist

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Neeson has insisted he is “not a racist”.
The 66-year-old actor has come under fire after he controversially and candidly confessed to trying to provoke a fight with a black person after a female friend was raped and he’s now clarified his comments, explaining he was expressing the unexpected “primal urge” to lash out that he felt after his pal’s attack.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning America’, he said: “We were doing a press junket and the topic of our film [‘Cold Pursuit’] is revenge.
“It’s a dark comedy, but its basis is revenge. The lady journalist asked me how I tapped into that.
“I remembered an incident nearly 40 years ago where a dear friend of mine was brutally raped. I was out of the country. When she came back she told me about this and she handled the situation herself with incredible bravery, I have to say that.
“I had never felt this feeling before, which was a primal urge to lash out.
“She said he was a black man. After that, there were some nights I went out deliberately into black areas in the city looking to be set upon so that I could unleash physical violence, and I did it for four or five times until I caught myself on.
“It shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me. It hurt me.”
Liam admitted he sought help for his violent feelings.
He added: “I did seek help. I went to a priest, [he] heard my confession and I was a Catholic. I am not racist. This was nearly 40 years ago.”
The veteran actor admitted he’d have reacted in the same way if his friend’s rapist had been white.
Asked by host Robin Roberts if he’d have done the same towards white people, he said: “Oh, definitely. If she’d have said an Irish, or a Scot, or a Brit, or a Lithuanian, I know it would have had the same effect. I was trying to show honour, to stand up for my dear friend.
“I’m a fairly intelligent guy and that’s why it kind of shocked me when I came down to Earth after having these horrible feelings. Luckily no violence occurred ever. Thanks be to God.”
Liam made his shocking admission when describing his reaction when the female acquaintance confided in him about being raped.
He previously said: “I asked, did she know who it was?

Seann Walsh: ‘If you’re going to cheat, do it indoors’

OHMYGOSSIP — Seann Walsh says people should “cheat indoors” if they are going to do the dirty on their partner.
The 33-year-old comedian caused a stir when he was caught locking lips with his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner Katya Jones – who is married to fellow professional Neil Jones – in October, and the comic has used the scandal as material for his stand-up show, admitting it was “bizarre” seeing his image on the front page of every newspaper following the smooch.
In footage obtained by MailOnline, Seann said: “You never think you are going to be on the front pages. People dressed up as me for Halloween. It was bizarre!
“But if you’re going to cheat, do it indoors.
“A lot of people were wishing I was dead. They were writing to me going, ‘Why don’t you just f**king die!’. I wanted to say, ‘I didn’t kiss your wife.’ ”
Seann was dating then-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries when he kissed Katya, which he later described as a “mistake”.
The ‘Bad Move’ star confessed during his stand-up show that he “considered taking his own life” – into the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ jungle.
He added: “I got so depressed I seriously considered taking my own life … into the jungle.”
Seann’s ex Rebecca previously admitted she wants to “find a way” to get through her heartbreak so she can date again.
She said: “I am getting on with things but when it comes to dating, it will be tricky to trust anyone again.
“Still, if it takes seeing a therapist to help me learn how to, I’ll do it. I’d rather find a way through this.
“Seann and I haven’t stayed in touch. We won’t be in contact again.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Fred Sirieix has confirmed he, Gino D’Acampo and Gordon Ramsay are in talks about a second series of their show.
The 47-year-old star admitted the trio are looking to bring the programme, ‘Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip’, back after bonding on their European travels, and also joked he would marry chef Gordon for his wealth.
Speaking to on ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on Virgin Radio, he said: “We’re looking at dates at the moment so if we can get it to happen we will. It was three weeks of mayhem, complete mayhem. Sleeping with [Gordon and Gino] in a camper van.”
When Chris asked Fred who he would rather marry or sleep with out of his two co-stars, he laughed: “What a question, I’m not sure I would marry any of them. This is a tough question.
“Maybe I marry Gordon for the money and Gino for the fun. Gino is very funny, he wants to do what he wants to do.

The ‘First Dates’ star doesn’t feel as though he is a natural performer on TV, but loves the whole experience.
He said: “I don’t think I’m very natural [on TV] I have to work very hard to perform and deliver.
“But what I like is working with great people and the experience and learning.

Kelly Brook’s anxiety over settling down

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Brook suffers “anxiety” over the idea of getting married.
The 39-year-old star is very happy with her boyfriend Jeremy Parisi but she no longer thinks getting wed or having children are what she wants to do with her life, which has been causing her turmoil.
She admitted to Closer magazine: “I’m happy but I still have my hang-ups. As I’ve grown older, they’ve just become a little different. I’ve come to terms with the fact I’m not going to be a young, skinny model forever. I dealt with that when I hit 30. But these days, it’s more like, ‘I’m not married, I’ve not had kids – where am I at in my career?’
“I do get anxiety about whether I want children and to get married, I think about those things a lot. I don’t know if it’s for me, to be honest, and I think that’s why it makes me feel anxious. I’m so happy with how everything’s going in my life – I suppose I don’t see where it would fit in right now.”
The brunette beauty – who has suffered two miscarriages in the past – has found gardening to be hugely beneficial to her mental health and she loves the quiet life she shares with Jeremy.
She said: “Being out in the garden helps with my mental health. The best bit is to be able to put my mobile down for a few hours and be in my flower beds, or in my potting shed. It’s just me, the wildlife and my land. I grow my own vegetables and cook from scratch – I’m much more connected to the environment.
“Living in the city felt superficial, it was all about how you look – and I’m much more comfortable in Kent.
“My home life is sorted and my relationship is great.”

Frances Bean Cobain: My dad’s money feels like a loan

OHMYGOSSIP — Frances Bean Cobain says the fortune she inherited from her late father Kurt Cobain feels like a “big giant loan [she’ll] never get rid of.”
The 26-year-old visual artist – who is the daughter of the late Nirvana frontman and Courtney Love – says she has a difficult relationship with the money she inherited from the ‘In Bloom’ hitmaker, because she barely knew her father when he passed away in 1994, when she was just 18 months old.
She said: “My relationship with money is different because I didn’t earn it. It’s almost like this big giant loan that I’ll never get rid of … It feels like money from somebody that I’ve never met, let alone earned myself.”
And whilst she admits she was reckless with her money at first, she now understands that she doesn’t have to “live lavishly in order to live well”, and tries to be a bit more frugal these days.
Speaking on RuPaul’s ‘What’s The Tee?’ podcast, she added: “I’d like to say that within the last two years I have taken real accountability for every single thing, talking to the people in charge of my money and having in-depth meetings as well as recognising that you don’t have to live lavishly in order to live well.
“Like, it’s not necessary to have UberXX or whatever it is every single time you are going five minutes away. Get the Uber economy if you are going ten minutes away, it’s okay, it’s alright.”
Her comments come after she said last year that she hopes her father would be “proud” of her musical ventures.
When asked if she believes the ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ hitmaker would like her music, Frances said: “I don’t have an answer for that because I don’t want to speak on someone else’s behalf. I would hope that he would be proud of the human being I am even if he didn’t like the art I am putting out. That’s all I would ask of anyone in my life.”
