Rita Ora’s cancer anxiety

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is “anxious” about getting cancer after her mother battled the disease.
The ‘Hot Right Now’ singer’s mother Vera has revealed her daughter suffers from panic attacks as a direct result from Vera being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.
She told Style magazine: “Rita rebelled a little, bunking off school for a couple of weeks. It was her mental escape … The whole family is still left with the anxieties that cancer ingrains. Rita gets anxious and sometimes has panic attacks. Having a serious illness in the family gives you a different perspective on life. You become appreciative of every day. Money or status don’t make a difference to me. What’s important are health and family. I learnt to prioritise these the hard way.”
Rita had previously revealed she has therapy once a week.
She said: “I’m not scared to admit I’ve had therapy. I have someone I speak to once a week. People suffer from it in different ways, but for me it’s more about thinking about the long-term goal. I’m a very ‘in the moment’ person, so if I have to do something there and then, I’ll be fine. But if I think about it, that’s when anxious thoughts start going on …
“I get so nervous because I care so much. Sometimes I get nervous about recording a song in the studio. I’m like, ‘I’m not ready to record this yet.’ Or, ‘I don’t think I can do this.’ So I’m relieved to have people around me who encourage me to do well.”

Richard E. Grant was told he looked ‘too weird’ to be an actor

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard E. Grant was told he “looked too weird” to make it as an actor when he was studying drama at university.
The 61-year-old actor has revealed that when he was studying drama at the University of Cape Town his adviser predicted that he wasn’t “cut out” for Hollywood because of his looks.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Awards Chatter’ podcast, he recalled: “He said, ‘I don’t think that you really are cut out – or are going to make it as an actor – because you look too weird.’ ”
Grant admits he didn’t think it would be possible for him to break into the film business, and he suspected he would spend his entire career as a stage actor “doing Chekhov in the theatre”.
He said: “I thought I was going to spend my whole life doing Chekhov in the theatre, It didn’t really cross my mind that it would be possible to ever be in a movie – that’s what happened overseas or in America or in Hollywood, which was this fabled land on the other side of the planet.”
This year, Grant received his first ever Oscar nomination for the Best Supporting Actor prize for his performance as Jack in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ in which he stars alongside Melissa McCarthy as Lee Israel, who attempts to revitalise her failing writing career by forging letters from deceased authors and playwrights.
The ‘Withnail and I’ star went on to explain that filming the drama was made easier by the fact that he and Melissa became friends, and they have remained close pals ever since.
He said: “It was helped by the fact that we got on so well, and have stayed friends ever since.”

Sheridan Smith postponing tour?

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheridan Smith has reportedly postponed her tour.
The ‘Cleaning Up’ star was due out on a seven date tour, ‘Sheridan Smith: A Northern Soul’, in late March but she is said to have decided to reschedule it for Christmas time so she can focus on making it the best show it can be.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Sheridan has been in tears over what she should do. After the success of ‘Cleaning Up’ on TV she’s been inundated with acting jobs she couldn’t turn down. She loves her music but TV work is incredibly important to her. Plus she’s been so busy she’s been struggling to find time to start putting together the shows properly. Sheridan wanted to give her fans an unforgettable time at the shows and she was worried people would walk away disappointed. She’s already sorted the rescheduling and it will be around Christmas time.”
And when the 37-year-old actress and singer goes on tour, she has promised fans she will be telling stories as well as singing.
She said last month: “I’m gonna do songs from this album and also probably songs from the last album but also new stuff, I keep kind of asking on twitter, what do people wanna see you know when they come and see it I wanna do a show for the people that supported me. So there’s gonna be lots of big numbers there’s a big orchestra and there will be stories you know what I’m like I can’t stop talking.”

Bros to present at BRIT Awards 2019

OHMYGOSSIP — Bros are to present an award at the BRIT Awards 2019.
The ‘When Will I Be Famous?’ hitmakers – made up of singers Matt and Luke Goss – are set to hand out one the famous gongs at the annual music awards ceremony at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday (20.02.19).
A source told The Sun newspaper: “After the success of Bros’ wacky documentary and the huge interest in them, Brit organisers jumped at the chance of booking them to get them involved in the awards in some way. They’re legends in their own right so it was a no-brainer to slot them in to present an award. The lads are really excited about their big moment and are gonna make sure they look their best.”
Bros are set to make a comeback concert in London, following the huge interest in the siblings’ documentary ‘Bros: After The Screaming Stops’, which looked at their bitter rivalry which led to their acrimonious split in 1992.
Luke said: “We’re gonna do some shows. July 5 we’re gonna play Brixton Academy. Tickets will go on sale January 19 and there’s gonna be more. We’re gonna play some shows this year in the UK and around the world.”
Since playing their 30th anniversary shows in 2017, the duo have vowed to never break up again because they’ve realised that the “incredible journey” that they’ve been on with their fans made at the height of their fame isn’t over yet.
Luke said previously: “We’ve made our decision that Bros will never disband again. We’re still on an incredible journey with our community of fans. We are brothers for life.”
And Matt admitted it was tough to make the film because it meant giving up his privacy.
He said: “We value our privacy most of all, which is why we’ve never milked our celebrity status for reality TV – so it was a fearful decision. This film nearly broke me. I didn’t want to finish it at one point. I just wanted to go home. I had my life and I love singing but it was starting to get too painful and our relationship was in real jeopardy.”

Iain Stirling to compete on Taskmaster

OHMYGOSSIP — Iain Stirling has signed up for the new series of ‘Taskmaster’.
The 31-year-old television presenter – who is best known as the voice of ‘Love Island’ – is set to go head-to-head against ‘The Inbetweeners’ actor Joe Thomas, ‘The Chase’ quizzer Paul Sinha, ‘Car Share’ actress Sian Gibson and stand-up comic Lou Sanders to face “tyrant” host Greg Davies in the upcoming eighth series of the “fierce” comedy competition.
A spokesperson for Dave, which broadcasts the show, said: “The double BAFTA nominated and Broadcast Award winning UKTV Original series Taskmaster returns to Dave and welcomes a new group of candidates placing themselves at the mercy of ‘Taskmaster’ tyrant Greg Davies, and the scrutiny of stats keeper and skivvy Little Alex Horne. Dave’s eighth series of the most competitive and fierce comedy game show on television will air in May.”
UKTV added: “Unaware of what awaits them in each wax sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’s golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.”
Filming on the tasks is already underway and the studio sessions will start soon, ahead of a broadcast date of May.
A ninth series of the hit show, which is now the channel’s most successful original format, has already been commissioned.
Alex created the programme, originally as a live show, and he recently admitted he’s delighted with how far the show has come since it first aired in 2015.
He said: “I recently watched an episode from the first series of Taskmaster and was amazed at how fresh-faced and cheerful I looked. I had no idea then that I’d still be serving such a powerful Taskmaster now or that I would have been demeaned in so many different ways in the intervening 50 episodes. I am a very lucky little man”.

Jenna Coleman and Maxine Peake to make guest appearance on Inside No. 9

OHMYGOSSIP — Jenna Coleman is set to make a guest appearance in the fifth series of ‘Inside No. 9’.
Creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton have signed up a number of big names to appear in the next six episodes of their comedy anthology series, and as well as the ‘Victoria’ actress, the likes of ‘Silk’ star Maxine Peake, ‘The Missing’ actor David Morrissey, ‘The Royle Family’ actor Ralf Little, ‘Vera Drake’s Phil Davis and ‘In The Club’ actress Jill Halpenny have also agreed to appear in the cult show.
In a statement, Reece and Steve said: “We’re delighted to announce a guest cast brimming with both emerging and established talent, all judiciously chosen to make us look a bit classier by association.”
‘Chewing Gum’s Kadiff Kirwan, ‘Coronation Street’ actress Debbie Rush and stage star Ioanna Kimbook will also make an appearance in the show show.
BBC bosses are delighted the series is returning again.
BBC Comedy Commissioning Controller, Shane Allen said: “Reece and Steve consistently dazzle and delight with what is undoubtedly the most inventively prolific storytelling series on television. Their ability to subvert and surprise makes each show a unique experience for the viewers. It’s the antidote to a world of familiar cosy TV formats.”
Steve will step into the director’s chair for one episode in the series, his first time since taking the helm of ‘Cold Comfort’ and ‘Nana’s Party’ from the 2015 run of episodes.
Another past director, Guillen Morales, will take the reins on three of the episodes, and the remaining two will be directed by ‘Psychoville’s Matt Lipsey.

Jeff proud of sons’ wedding speeches

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Brazier’s “defining moment” of parenthood came when his sons gave speeches at his wedding.
The 39-year-old presenter married long-term partner Kate Dwyer in September and thinks it was a huge achievement for Bobby, 15, and 14-year-old Freddy – his kids with late ex-girlfriend Jade Goody – to speak honestly and openly in front of all their guests.
He said: “They were a defining moment in my time as a parent.
“Whenever things get tricky – and as the boys are teenagers it is natural for it to do so – I often remind myself of that day to give me the perspective I need.
“For the boys it was a big achievement to stand in front of so many people and talk so honestly with such courage.
“So I hope by reminding them of that day they will remember what they are capable of.
“Sometimes you look at the pictures and you have to ask yourself if it was real or if you dreamt it because it was such a perfect day.”
And Kate couldn’t have been more “proud” of her step-sons than she was on her wedding day.
She added in a joint interview with HELLO! magazine: “I look at the pictures and videos a lot – probably too much!
“I could not have been prouder of the boys on that day. It makes me cry every time, no matter how many times I watch it.”
Next month marks the 10th anniversary of Jade’s death and Jeff is already expecting it to have a huge “emotional impact” on the boys.
He said: “There is something about anniversaries that affect our family’s natural rhythm anyway but this anniversary is a big one.
“While we have lots to celebrate about Jade’s lief and how well the boys have coped for that period, I can already see it is going to have quite an emotional impact so I am bracing myself for that.”

Julie Hesmondhalgh’s husband doesn’t give her Corrie gossip

OHMYGOSSIP — Julie Hesmondhalgh admitted her husband won’t give her any ‘Coronation Street’ spoilers.
The former soap star – who starred on the cobbles as Hayley Cropper from 1998 until 2014 – has revealed while her man Ian Kershaw is still a writer for the ITV show, he doesn’t reveal any behind the scenes secrets.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she said: “We’ve still got a lovely ‘Corrie’ connection in our family. Although he’s been very mean about giving me the gossip. I used to tell him everything, he won’t tell me anything!”
While Julie, 48, has forged an impressive career after ‘Corrie’ with roles in the likes of ‘Cucumber’, ‘Broadchurch’ and ‘Happy Valley’, she doesn’t think she will ever step out of Hayley’s shadow.
She laughed: “I’ve not been totally successful in that, I don’t think. I’ve always that my obituary page will be me in that red anorak, no matter what I go on to do.”
The actress is now in the middle of a run treading the boards for her latest stage role as the title role in ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’ at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
The play is running from February 8 to March 2, and Julie admitted she doesn’t mind that she’s still remembered most for her time on the cobbles.
She said: “I don’t mind at all. It brings… there’s people who loved Hayley and love ‘Corrie’ who’ll come see this play, they’re not gonna get what they might expect… it’s bringing that lovely, loyal ‘Corrie’ audience to something new.”

Tom Watt praises current EastEnders cast’s work ethic

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Watt has a lot of respect for the work ethic of the ‘EastEnders’ cast.
The former cobbles star – who played George ‘Lofty’ Holloway on the soap from its launch in 1985 until 1988 – has returned to the show so that his character can attend Dr. Legg’s funeral this week, and he admitted a lot has changed over the last 30 years.
He told ITV’s ‘This Morning’: “They are grafting now! I mean, we did two episodes a week which meant you could rehearse it like a play.
“Now, you just go… these people are so on it! The guys who are doing it now, one it’s proper hard graft, and two they’re so focused. I was really, really impressed.”
Despite being one of the original cast members, Tom laughed off the idea that he had returned to his “patch”.
He said: “No, I think there’s been a few people through since! I think I’ve had to relinquish ownership.”
His comments come after Tom admitted he would be open to a regular ‘EastEnders’ return after reprising the role of Lofty.
He previously said: “Well I don’t know, they’ve never said. If they did, yeah I like acting, I really like acting, it’s not that I’m not doing it because I don’t like acting, I’m not great at waiting for the phone to ring.
“I love acting, I had a really good time. It’s harder work now. They work a lot harder than we did. We did two episodes a week. They do twice as much.”

Hollyoaks star Ellis Hollins comfortable with polyamory storyline

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellis Hollins didn’t find his polyamory storyline embarrassing on set.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ star’s character Tom Cunningham will agree to a romance with Harley Frater (Mollie Lambert) and Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) in scenes airing this week, and the actor admitted filming the on-screen kisses was relaxed because of their friendships away from the cameras.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “It was interesting and a very different concept to what I’m used to. It’s been so much fun to film, because I’m really good friends with Ruby and Mollie.
“When we were filming, it was all a laugh. If we had kissing scenes, there was no awkwardness afterwards. We’re good enough friends to know that it’s all fake and you don’t have to be embarrassed around each other afterwards.
“It was amazing to film and it’s a very diverse topic. I don’t think it’s been covered in as much detail as this, so it’s been pretty amazing to explore.”
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Ellis – who has appeared on the soap since he was three – revealed he has no plans of calling time on his stint on the soap yet, because there is a lot he wants to see explored.
He added: “I’m eager to see what else Tom can offer. You never know what Tom could do with his millions now he has his inheritance money.
“I’d want to stick around because I want to know what Tom is going to do with his money in the future.
“There are so many possibilities and different avenues that he can go down. I think there’s a lot that could be done with Tom, it’s just tapping into that potential.”

Tom Chaplin to cover Queen songs on UK tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Chaplin is set to tour the UK covering Queen’s songs.
The Keane frontman – who performed ‘It’s a Hard Life’ with the surviving members of the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor, at The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala concert in 2010 – is set to perform at theatres across the country playing the iconic band’s hits backed once again by the 24-piece Leo Green Orchestra.
The tour announcement follows the success of the 39-year-old singer’s BBC Radio 2 ‘Friday Night Is Music Night’ show last week, which was recorded live from The London Palladium, and saw him sing songs by the late Freddie Mercury’s band backed by the same orchestra.
The run of dates, which will see him take on their mega-hits ‘Somebody To Love’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘Killer Queen’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, kick off in Bournemouth on April 18, and conclude at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on April 28.
The solo shows follow the news that Keane are working on their first album in six years.
The ‘Everybody’s Changing’ hitmakers went on an indefinite hiatus in 2013, a year after releasing their last record ‘Strangeland’, and after Tom admitted he would need to repair his “complicated” relationship with bandmate Tim Rice Oxley, they have reportedly put their differences aside to hit the studio to make new music.
An insider said: “The boys have had a good few years to do their own thing but now they’re back and raring to go once more.
“It’s been a long time coming and they’ve put all their differences to one side and are really loving working together again.
“They’ve been in the studio recording since the end of last year and have been offered songs by some amazing names. It’s all very exciting.”
Tom has had a successful solo career since the band went on a break, his 2016 solo LP ‘The Wave’ reached number three in the Official UK Chart.
Life in Keane didn’t come easy for 39-year-old singer, who saw his life spiral out of control in the mid-2000s due to his addictions to drink and drugs, and after picking himself back up again, he suffered a relapse in 2015.
Tom admitted in 2017 that reuniting with his bandmates would only be possible if he and Tim mended their relationship to make the group a “happy” place again.
Opening up about his difficult friendship with the 42-year-old keyboardist – who completes the rock band with guitarist Jesse Quinn – he said: “Me and Tim have a really complicated relationship. We have great love and respect, but there are other elements in that relationship. I think in order to do something with Keane we would have to explore ways to make it a happy and positive experience again. And at the moment it doesn’t feel for me it’s the right thing to be doing.”
Tickets for the ‘Friday Night Is Music Night – The Songs Of Queen Starring Tom Chaplin’ shows go on sale via Live Nation on Friday (22.02.19) from 9am.
The tour dates are as follows:
April 18, Bournemouth BIC
April 19, Cardiff St David’s Hall
April 22, London Palladium
April 24, Oxford New Theatre
April 27, Harrogate Convention Centre
April 28, Manchester Palace Theatre

Serena Williams throws carnival-themed party for Alexis

OHMYGOSSIP — Serena Williams has thrown a carnival-themed party for her daughter.
The tennis ace pulled out all the stops for a party for her little girl Alexis Olympia over the weekend, with a full size Merry-Go-Round, a train as well as “Olympia’s Candy Shop”.
Taking to Instagram, Serena explained that they don’t celebrate birthdays because they are Jehovah’s Witnesses. She shared: “I wanted to just do something fun because we don’t do birthdays.”
Guests who attended the bash in the family’s back garden sang along to Disney songs, including Serena who got involved by singing along to Beauty and the Beast’s ‘Something There’.
Meanwhile, Serena had previously confessed that she has “insecurities” about being a “good enough” parent to her daughter and has called for more women to speak out about anxieties over motherhood.
She said: “I always have these insecurities that I’m not good enough as a mom. We all go through these different emotions that we all don’t feel comfortable talking about. But I think we should.”
The tennis star also admitted finding a good work/life balance is difficult.
She added: “It’s hard. It’s not easy being a working mom, but that’s what we do. Women are strong and we are continuing to be, so I’m really proud of that.
“I think there is [a work-life balance]. The thing is, you just have to find it. I’m not sure if I’ve found it yet, but I’m getting there. I’m finding my personal work-life balance.”
And Serena revealed she relies on other mothers to make her feel at ease when she has concerns about her baby daughter.
She said: “When I missed Olympia’s walking, I posted about it and so many parents wrote in and said, ‘Don’t worry about it, I missed it too.’ I didn’t realise that it’s almost more normal to miss it than it is to make it. So I really kind of rely on everyone’s help out there. It’s been so, so amazing.”

Adam Collard reveals past weight and diet issues

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Collard had issues with his weight and diet when he was a teenager.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has admitted while he looked “muscly and very lean” when he entered the villa, it took a lot of work to get there after having a very different experience in his youth.
Adam, now 22, appeared on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and said: “It’s funny because when I walked into the Villa I was 16 stone but very muscly and very lean.
“But I was also that exact 16 stone at 14, 15. But seriously overweight and had a lot of food issues and exactly the same weight.”
Fitness coach Adam added that passion is vital for people wanting to train themselves, and urged them not to compare themselves to how he looks now.
He explained that his appearance in photoshoots comes from “extreme” techniques to “get everything to start popping out”.
He also revealed it was difficult getting away from how he looked as a teenager, but he said seeing that progress was a huge inspiration.
He said: “As much as it was a hard time going from that overweight kid, my most enjoyable year at the gym was when I went from the overweight kid and started seeing the progress.
“Because training now is boring cos I’m already there. It’s not as fun as when I was actually seeing the progress a lot more everyday.
Meanwhile, Adam insisted that he still cares for former flame Zara McDermott despite their recent split.
He said: “Absolutely. It’s really hard because it would be easy to get out of a relationship if someone had done anything wrong. But that’s just not the case. We’re just not getting on right now and it’s hard.
“We’re not a couple, we’re not a couple. Zara has categorically said, Adam has not done anything wrong for me it’s just what I’m facing. It’s hard to get over that.”
Zara announced her split from Adam last week, in an Instagram post in which she stated she was “heartbroken” by the news.
She wrote: “I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways. I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him and our time spent together.
“I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.
“Sometimes in life, you just aren’t enough for someone; no matter what do for them or how much you try to me.
“For everyone asking if I’m OK, I don’t know that I am. But I know that soon I will be. I will be strong and prove to myself that I can get through this.”

Glenn Close doesn’t want to win a ‘pity Oscar’

OHMYGOSSIP — Glenn Close doesn’t want to win a “pity Oscar” at this year’s Academy Awards.
The 71-year-old actress is up for Best Actress for her role in ‘The Wife’ at the upcoming ceremony, and throughout her four decade spanning career she has been nominated seven times without winning one.
Although she would love to take home one of the golden statuettes, Close doesn’t want to be given one for time served in Hollywood but wants to earn one on merit.
In an interview with The I Paper, she said: “It would mean a lot but I wouldn’t want it to be a pity Oscar after 45 years.”
The ‘Fatal Attraction’ star does accept that everyone is rooting for her to be recognised for her performance in ‘The Wife’ because she is yet to win an Oscar and she is grateful for people’s support.
She explained: “People have been going back and looking at my basic body of work and the six times I lost and what those roles where so I can’t pretend it’s just for ‘The Wife’ but I feel like everyone’s rooting for me.”
In ‘The Wife’, Close plays Joan Castleman, a spouse who questions her life choices as she travels to Stockholm with her husband where he is going to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
And she admits it was a cathartic experience for her as it’s reflective of the control she now feels she has in her own life now she’s not attached to anyone but her daughter, Annie Starke, 30, who co-stars alongside her in the movie.
She said: “It’s taken a long time to gain control of my own life. When I made ‘The Wife’ I was in control of my life for probably the first time. I’m at a time in my life where I’m not beholden to anyone. I mean I’m always attached with every molecule in my body to my daughter; whether she likes it or not. Bu I’m not attached to any partner.”

John Barrowman shocked by fan’s sexy gift

OHMYGOSSIP — John Barrowman was once given a sex toy by a person dressed as a Klingon at a science-fiction convention.
The 51-year-old actor has a huge fan base due to his role as Captain Jack Harkness on ‘Doctor Who’ and spin-off show ‘Torchwood’ and he is used to being presented with presents when he meets people at events.
However, John – who has been married to Scott Gill since 2013 – was taken aback when he was approached by the ‘Star Trek’ alien at one convention who proceeded to gift him the marital aid, much to his surprise.
When asked by the Sunday Mirror’s Notebook magazine what is the “weirdest present” he has received, he replied: “I like to use the word ‘imaginative’. Are you ready? I was at a ‘Doctor Who’ convention and a Klingon came up to me and gave me a box with a picture on it, and instead of the Captain Jack bomb I was riding, there was a vibrator shaped like an appendage. I was very taken aback and said, “Thank you very much,’ and I took it home and said to Scott, ‘Do you want to see what I got? A Klingon gave us a dildo.’ And he was like, ‘Throw that away, it’s filthy!’
“It’s always the ‘Doctor Who’ fans. Musical theatre people don’t give you marital aids. You do have people watching three or four nights in a row, who are there weekly though.”
John is very grateful for the support of his fans over the years and admits they don’t stand for trolls attacking him on social media and are very quick to leap to his defence.
He said: “Don’t mess with them (his fans). I have to stop my diehards from ripping trolls to pieces. I say, ‘You’ve got to pull back and chillax.’ We throw trolls out. I have somebody who watches it all. I don’t have to defend me, and if you don’t like me, why are you on my social media? And if you’ve got an account where people can’t comment back, you’re a f***ing chicken.”
