Colin Farrell to star in BBC’s The North Water

OHMYGOSSIP — Colin Farrell is set to star in BBC Two’s adaptation of ‘The North Water’.
The 42-year-old actor will front the upcoming four-part thriller series – which is based on the critically acclaimed novel from Ian McGuire – and is being helmed by ‘Lean on Pete’s’ Andrew Haigh, and produced by See-Saw Films.
The much-anticipated series tells the story of a disgraced ex-army surgeon, named Patrick Sumner, who signs up for a whaling expedition and meets murderous a psychopath, Henry Drax (Farrell).
Haigh said: “Casting the right leads is the most important part of any project and I’m thrilled to have Colin Farrell on board. I am a huge admirer of his work and can’t wait to see him bring Drax vividly to life.”
The BBC is in talks with several A-list actors for the role of Sumner and a deal is thought to be close, according to Deadline.
The series – which is being produced as three hour-long episodes and a 90-minute finale – has been commissioned by Controller of BBC Drama, Piers Wenger and Controller of BBC Two, Patrick Holland.
Wenger added: “Colin Farrell will bring a blend of brutality and humanity to Andrew Haigh’s superb adaptation of this savage novel. ‘The North Water’ is a brooding and resonant story which is set to grip BBC Two viewers.”
‘The North Water’ will be Farrell’s return to British TV since his breakout role in the BBC’s 1996 series ‘Ballykissangel’ and will be his most high-profile TV appearance since he featured in the second season of ‘True Detective’.
Jamie Laurenson, See-Saw Films’ COO Hakan Kousetta and Head of Television, said: “We are so proud to have the compelling talent of Colin Farrell on board to bring Andrew Haigh’s vision of Ian McGuire’s novel to the screen.”

Richard E Grant says it is ‘foolish’ to prepare Oscars speech

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard E Grant feels it would be “foolish” for him to have an Oscars speech prepared.
The 61-year-old actor is up for Best Supporting Actor at this year’s Academy Award ceremony for his role in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’, but he insisted that he hasn’t written an acceptance speech as he’s convinced fellow nominee Mahershala Ali is a sure thing to win the prize for his performance in ‘Green Book’.
In an interview with Variety, he said: “I happen to be in a category this year and Mahershala Ali has won absolutely every big award. And as sure as I am talking to you right now, he will win on Sunday.
“The big four – SAG, Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and Oscars – Mahershala [Ali] has so clearly won those without any doubt that it’s in some way, it makes it easier.
“The other four nominees, we’ve shared this with each other, you know who is going to win so essentially you enjoy it for the ride it offers. The nerve-wracking thinking — ‘Gee could you or will you win?’ Is taken out of the equation.”
When asked whether he had a speech prepared for the event being held on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the ‘Withnail and I’ star added: “Most certainly not. That would be foolish.
“The man that has to have the speech planned is the man who has had to come up with four different speeches for the four different awards that he’s already won. He’s the one with the duty of coming up with saying something new, not the other four nominees.”
The ‘Star Wars: Episode XI’ actor went on to explain that he’s certain it won’t be him taking home the prize as the “law of averages” wouldn’t allow it.
He said: “The law of averages, if you don’t think so yourself, the bookies, the internet, Google alerts, the world tells you. It just wouldn’t happen.”

Kym Marsh was bullied at school

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh was bullied at school because of her acting dreams.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star has admitted she was picked on by other children when she was younger because she “wasn’t like” the others, and she revealed it was an “awful” period of her life.
Opening up in her OK! Magazine column, she wrote: “I was bullied at school because I wasn’t like everyone else and was focused on becoming a performer.
“It was an awful time and I have zero tolerance for bullying in any form.”
Her comments come after ‘Hollyoaks’ actress Nikki Sanderson opened up about her own experiences, which saw her physically assaulted as a teenager when she starred in ‘Corrie’.
She revealed how cruel bullies “punched” and “kicked” her, as well as setting her hair on fire, and verbal abuse.
Kym said: “It’s absolutely awful that happened to her and it sounds like pure jealousy from other young people.
“Your teens are a time when you’re finding out who you are and because of the job she did, she was being ridiculed and abused.
“It must’ve been so hard to cope with, along with school work and exams.”
Last week, Nikki, now 34, candidly spoke about her experiences when she first appeared on the cobbles at the age of 15.
She said: “It was before social media so I used to get it in the street instead. It was when I first started at ‘Corrie’.
“It was all different types of things. I had my hair set on fire, I’ve been punched, kicked, pushed over, had drinks thrown over me, and been called every name under the sun.”
Despite the cruel bullies, Nikki has praised her cast mates at the soap’s crew for supporting her.
She added: “I have to say that everyone at ‘Coronation Street’ and all the people around me were just so wonderful and supportive, which I’m truly grateful for.”

Shane Richie wants EastEnders return for Alfie Moon

OHMYGOSSIP — Shane Richie hopes Alfie Moon will return to Walford.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor – who is currently starring as drag queen Loco Chanelle in the West End production of ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ – last appeared on the soap on Christmas Day (25.12.18) when his character was pushed down the stairs in the Slaters’ house and left for dead, only for him to leave when nobody was looking, taking baby Cherry with him.
Opening up about a mysterious text Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) received – which she believes to be from Alfie – he told ITV’s ‘This Morning’: “I’d like [it] it is me that said ‘Kat, keep the faith’, and Alfie’s on the run with Phil Mitchell’s £50,000.
“So they’ve left the door open, and I know Kate Oates who’s there now is a wonderful executive producer. She’s bringing in some wonderful new character and great storylines, and I hope there’s a chance for Alfie to come back one day.”
His comments come after the BBC soap’s boss Kate admitted there were a lot of options for the show’s direction and how Alfie will play into it.
She said last year: “I’m excited about moving Kat on with refreshing dynamics. I feel that is really important. But with Kat and Alfie they will always have that [bond] and if you wanted to bring it back to that you absolutely could.
“I’m also interested in refreshing it and doing different things. I’ll go with anything.”
She also revealed she would be happy to work with Shane again after how well he did with his return over Christmas.
She added: “Shane has created such an icon in Alfie that you never know. You don’t come back at Christmas for nothing, he did really well with that.
“I would work with Shane again, he’s Alfie, he’s awesome. At the moment his storyline, he’s got a good one.”

Alison King doesn’t think Carla considered Roy’s ‘strong principles’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison King doesn’t think Carla Connor took Roy Cropper’s feelings into account by covering up his role in the boat fire.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress has opened up about her character’s decision to try and help David Neilson’s alter ego by hiding the fact that he accidentally sparked the blaze by knocking over a lamp while he was sleepwalking, which led to the flames consuming her ex Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) vessel.
Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: “She hasn’t really allowed for Roy’s strong principles – she just swept in and made the decision for him.
“I think she expected him to be mortified when she found out he’d set alight Peter’s boat, but she didn’t anticipate him being angry with her!”
Another of Peter’s former flames Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) found herself a suspect – before it was discovered she had a solid alibi – but Alison insisted it wasn’t “premeditated” by Carla.
She added: “That wasn’t premeditated on Carla’s part. It was just if people were suspecting Abi, they wouldn’t be looking at Roy. She was desperate to protect him, and she’s not trying to stop Peter and Abi making a go of it.”
Meanwhile, Alison also admitted Carla will find it “difficult” if her relationship with father figure Roy breaks down over the blaze and her subsequent cover up.
She said: “It will be difficult. Even if Johnny is her dad, Roy is the one who has been most like a dad to her, and the person who totally gets her and cares unconditionally.”

Jada Pinkett Smith calls Anne Hathaway ‘an ally’ to women of colour

OHMYGOSSIP — Jada Pinkett Smith has praised Anne Hathaway as “an ally” to women of colour.
During an episode of her ‘Red Table Talk’ Facebook series, the 47-year-old actress and her guests discussed the inequality between white women and women of colour in America in recognition of Black History Month.
Jada insisted it must be acknowledged when there is a white woman who has “come in to help” the black community and highlighted Anne, 36, as an example.
Jada said: “I definitely believe that there’s this huge break between women of colour and white women.
“As women of colour we really have to recognise when white women come in to help, that we make room for it. Because there’s been a couple of times, like with Anne Hathaway…”
The ‘Girls Trip’ star was interrupted by her daughter Willow, 18, who said: “It is trust issues!”
Prompting her mother to answer: “But at some point, when are we, as black women, going to be able to recognise an ally?”
As well as Willow, the other guests were Jada’s mother Adrienne Banfield Norris, actress Justina Machado, white writer Amie Newman and black activist Rachel Cargle.
Anne has previously spoken out about her “white, straight privilege” and took to Instagram last year to address the murder of Nia Wilson, an 18-year-old black woman who was killed at a Bay Area Rapid Transit train station in Oakland, California.
In a lengthy post, she wrote: “White people – including me, including you – must take into the marrow of our privileged bones the truth that ALL black people fear for their lives DAILY in America and have done so for GENERATIONS. White people DO NOT have equivalence for this fear of violence,’ she professed.
“Given those givens, we must ask our (white)selves- how ‘decent’ are we really? Not in our intent, but in our actions? In our lack of action? (sic)”

Pete Davidson cancels comedy gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Davidson reportedly cancelled a sold-out comedy show the day before it was due to take place.
The ‘Saturday Night Live’ star – who had appeared on the weekly TV broadcast just days before – was set to take to the stage at the South Orange Performing Arts Centre (SOPAC) in New Jersey on Tuesday evening (19.02.19).
However, the New York Post newspaper reports that ticket holders were informed just 25 hours before the show that it had been axed due to an “unforeseen conflict”.
The event itself was only announced on Friday (15.02.19), with tickets going on sale for $49 and selling out within hours.
According to the site, a fan said: “WTF! The gig was just announced … Maybe there was a conflict. Maybe not. But to postpone the gig 25 hours before showtime because of a conflict?”
The venue hasn’t posted about the cancellation on social media, and the event is still listed on its official website.
Meanwhile, the report comes after the 25-year-old comedian – who has been romantically linked to British actress Kate Beckinsale in recent weeks – covered up his Ariana Grande tattoo with the word “cursed”.
Pete – who was engaged to Ariana from June last year until they called things off in October – has been pictured sporting new ink on his back, including a cover-up of the matching “mille tendresse” tattoo that he previously shared on the back of his neck with the ‘Thank U, Next’ hitmaker.
Since the breakup, he has removed several of the tattoos he got as tribute to his and Grande’s relationship, and Pete had the ‘Dangerous Woman’ ink on his neck covered up recently with a black love heart, while she covered her Pete tattoo on her left ring finger with a solemn black heart.

Simon Cowell loves TV detective show Columbo

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Cowell has become obsessed with watching old episodes of crime series ‘Columbo’.
The 59-year-old music mogul has revealed he has been binge watching the TV drama – which ran from 1968 to 2003 and starred the late Peter Falk as the titular homicide detective, a role which won him four Emmys – to help him relax when he’s not working on his Syco label or his television shows, which include ‘The X Factor’ and ‘America’s Got Talent’.
Speaking on the Series Linked TV podcast about his favourite shows, he said: “My favourite box set ever, and I just got it recently, is ‘Columbo’, seasons one to ten. Speaking to GQ magazine in 2011, he said: “It’s less depressing than watching the news, which is just relentless. You’ve got to try it one morning. You’ll be happy for the rest of the day.”
Hanna-Barbera’s animated shows include ‘The Flinstones’, ‘The Jetsons’, ‘The Yogi Bear Show’ and ‘Wacky Races’.

The 24-year-old reality star – who split with her 20-year-old partner six months after they met on the ITV dating show ‘Love Island’ – has revealed she’s been involved with women in the past and after separating from Wes, she is considering a same-sex relationship once again.
Asked if she was attracted to both men and women, Megan told New! magazine: “I feel like I might be. After this broken heart I feel like, yeah. I’ve dated girls in the past. It’s not like I wouldn’t do it.”
The blonde beauty went on to admit it’s difficult to come out as bisexual when she’s living her life in the spotlight.
However, Megan hopes that more socially influential people speak out in order to remove the taboo surrounding the issue.
She said: “I think more people who have this platform need to speak out to younger girls, honestly.
“Saying things like ‘I’ve had a few sexual partners; I’ve always practiced safe sex. I appreciate women. I appreciate men.’ The more we’re all open about it then the less taboo it becomes.”
Megan went on to explain that although her direct messages are “going off”, she isn’t ready to become romantically involved with anyone yet.
She said: “The DMs are going off but it’s too soon. I want to take time for me. It was intense and I just want time by myself.
“I want to find someone naturally and I don’t want to force it. Definitely no one in the public eye – ever.
“I’m steering clear of anyone in the limelight, especially reality people. I’m never dating another reality guy or girl again.”

He wrote on the micro-blogging platform: “I sleepwalked last night – oh my God, not just round the room – in the actual street in my pants – just remember walking on a mission – absolutely terrifying! Seriously!!! [unhappy emoji]

Jack Whitehall swears on live TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine Lampard had to apologise to viewers after Jack Whitehall swore on ‘Lorraine’ earlier today (19.02.19).
The 40-year-old presenter was forced to apologise after Jack, 30, dropped a swear word into the conversation they were having about his job of hosting the BRITs on Wednesday (20.02.19).
Jack said: “Everyone’s there to have a good time, it’s quite a raucous event, the best thing about last year though was that everyone was absolutely p****d.”
Jack – who first hosted the annual awards bash in 2018 – revealed that ‘This Morning’ co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were among the most rowdy members of the star-studded audience last year.
He continued: “You’ve got all these rockstars, the Foo Fighters, people like that that you expect to be very rowdy.
“Yet, still, it was Schofield and Willoughby who were the most drunk in the entire arena and behaving more outrageously than any of the rockstars.
“They put them all to shame so, you know, it’s a crazy event and people want the craziness, they want the raucousness, so you’ve got to just embrace the chaos.”
Jack initially appeared to have been oblivious to his mishap.
But Christine – who is married to retired soccer star Frank Lampard – quickly offered an apology to the ‘Lorraine’ viewers.
She said: “I’m glad you said ‘drunk’ as opposed the other word that you just said – we’ll apologise for that this morning because it is half term.”

Zachary Levi wants Shazam in another Justice League’ movie.

OHMYGOSSIP — Zachary Levi wants Shazam to be in a ‘Justice League’ sequel.
The 38-year-old actor is set to play the titular role in the upcoming DC and Warner Bros superhero flick ‘Shazam!’, and he admitted he would love to join the DC Extended Universe’s Justice League, which features Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash.
In an interview with Empire he said: “I hope I get to be part of the Justice League. At San Diego, Jason Momoa [Aquaman] quite literally took me under his wing, put his arm around me and was like, ‘Welcome to the family.’ ”
Although Levi is keen to expand his role within the DCEU, he has previously already starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Fandral – one of the Warriors Three – in ‘Thor: The Dark World’.
However, he doesn’t feel his character was used to the “best of [his] ability” in that movie or his brief appearance in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.
He explained: “I just don’t think those characters were quite utilised to the best of their abilities. Thor and the Warriors Three could have been a really cool little trilogy of team movies, and we didn’t really have that much impact.
“Particularly not in ‘Ragnarok’ – I mean, I didn’t even have a line.”
‘Shazam!’ – which is helmed by David Sandberg and based on the comic of the same name by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck – is due to be released in April this year, and will also star Asher Angel as 14-year-old Billy Batson, Mark Strong as the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, and Jack Dylan Grazer and Freddy Freeman, Billy’s best friend.

Keira Knightley: ‘I fight against likeability on screen’

OHMYGOSSIP — Keira Knightley likes to play women who aren’t “particularly likeable” in movies.
The ‘Aftermath’ actress – who plays Rachael Morgan in James Kent’s new drama – was drawn to the role because she challenges the stereotype of a woman on screen by having lots of elements to her that that viewer needs to “understand”.
Speaking at the world premiere of ‘The Aftermath’ at Picturehouse Central in London on Monday evening (18.02.19), Knightley said: “I think I always fight against likeability as far as particular women on screen go, you know we’re always told that we have to be likeable and I was interested in her because a lot of things she does aren’t particularly likeable.
“But I think it’s very important that you understand where she is coming from. I think if this film works – I hope it does – then it’s because you understand the different points of view that the people are coming from. I think that’s really important.”
The new movie is set in 1946 postwar Germany, and after being reunited with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), Rachel is shocked to discover she will be living with a German widower (Alexander Skarsgard) and his troubled daughter.
Meanwhile, Knightley – who was spotted joking with co-star Skargard at the screening – also confessed that her favourite part of playing a different character is “working with costume designers” because of how important her clothing is to each role.
She added: “When you’re creating costumes and a look for the character it has to feel right for that particular character and it’s about telling a story through those clothes. I think I always really enjoy working with costume designers to do that its part of the job that I really like.
“Obviously, it’s not on me, it’s completely on the costume designers but I definitely always say whether it feels right for the person or not.”
The film hits arrives in cinemas on March 1, 2019.

The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star took to her Instagram to announce the much-anticipated news of her exclusive capsule collection with the online fashion retailer that is designed for “all boob and bum shapes”.
Speaking to her 1.3 million followers, Emily wrote: “friends!! Happy to confirm the worst kept secret EVER that I am collaborating with In The Style and launching my own range!!
“The clothes are wonderful, different, fun and good for all types of boob and bum shapes. You’re going to bloody love it. (sic)”
The 29-year-old actress admitted that she’s no longer using apps which help her appear slimmer as it’s “easy to fall into that trap”, and she wanted her In The Style campaign to be honest and reflect her inner body confidence.
Speaking to The Daily Star newspaper, Emily added: “As I said post-Jungle, I’m done with the slimming and smoothing apps – so yes, no retouching on this campaign.
“I’ll openly admit I used to slim down my pictures loads, but I will honestly never, ever do that again. It’s just so easy to fall into that trap. You can take a photo in a bikini on holiday and literally use your finger to pull your hips in, slim down your waist and lift your bum.
“Looking at an edited picture might make me feel better about myself for five seconds thinking I look amazing, but that’s not what I actually look like. It’s false advertising, really. If you’re going to put yourself out there, show who you really are.”
The blonde beauty also confessed she has has begun to embrace her natural self after appearing on the ITV programme.
She said: “The jungle is so emotionally revealing. I thought I was weak, but actually I can do it. I just need to be a bit braver.

Would love to hear your achievements as well (sic)”
The inclusive campaign also features 26-year-old fashion model Adwoa Aboah and Eniola Abioro alongside Graham and Gadot to promote their new Candid foundation line.
Gadot added on social media: “I can, so I did. This is @revlon newest campaign championing women’s achievements, big and small. #icansoidid (sic)”
Ashley previously admitted she shed a few tears when she agreed a beauty contract with Revlon last year.
The American star shared: “It’s kind of groundbreaking, because in my generation of models, this hasn’t happened yet. This is one of those moments where I’m over the moon, I cried a little.”
The brunette beauty explained that fashion brands have increasingly used plus-size models in their campaigns over recent years.
And she believes that her curvaceous figure is more representative of normal American women than most models.
Ashley said: “You’ve been slowly seeing [curvy] models pop up in make-up campaigns, but you haven’t heard of any actually signing contracts, and I think it’s because [companies] just want to get their feet wet. It’s like, ‘Hmmm, let’s try this bold curvy thing now and see if it’s real or see if it’s a trend.’
“The average American woman is a size 14 and if you ask me, lipstick does not have a size.”

Fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld dies

OHMYGOSSIP — Fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85.
The fashion designer and creative director of luxury brand Chanel reportedly passed away on Tuesday morning (19.02.19) after battling ill health for several weeks.
France’s Closer magazine reports that he was admitted to hospital in Paris, France on Monday evening (18.02.19) and passed away this morning. The cause of death is not yet known.
Lagerfeld was born in Hamburg, Germany on September 10, 1933 and began his career in fashion 22 years later. He worked as an assistant to Pierre Balmain after winning a design competition. Three years later, he departed Balmain and went on in the coming years to freelance for French fashion house Chloé, which was met by mixed reviews during fashion week shows. As the years went on, his fame in the fashion industry rose further.
Lagerfeld was offered the job at Chanel in 1985 – but he was worried about joining them.
He said: “At that time, I already had a good reputation, I was doing Fendi and Chloe. I had been warned, ‘Do not take Chanel, it’s awful.’ When I arrived, she [Coco] had been dead for 10 years and everyone lived in the respect of her memory. If you want to kill a house, show [her] respect.”
During his time at Chanel, Lagerfeld helped to produce up to eight collections for the brand a year, much to the excitement and enjoyment of fashion fans across the world. He was also creative director for Fendi and he also worked on his eponymous fashion label.
Lagerfeld was known for his dark suits and contrasting white hair, which was always tied into a ponytail. He also was a fan of tinted sunglasses and regularly wore these.
Speaking about his appearance, he shared: “I am like a caricature of myself, and I like that.”
He had sparked concerns about his health when he missed the chance to greet the audience at the end of a Chanel fashion show last month in Paris because he was feeling “tired”.
