Danny DeVito’s strong bond with Tim Burton made Dumbo ‘even better’

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito says his long-standing working relationship with Tim Burton made ‘Dumbo’ “even better”.
The 74-year-old Hollywood legend portrays circus ringmaster Max Medici in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of the classic tale about a flying elephant, and he says his history with the iconic filmmaker, having been under his helm in movies such as ‘Mars Attacks’ and Batman Returns’, made their time on set a breeze because they have so much “trust” for one another.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, DeVito said: “Because of the fact that you can come onto the set and talk about things like remember ‘Batman Returns’ and things that we did together, ‘Big Fish’ and ‘Mars Attacks’, him visiting my set, me visiting his set.
“All this kind of stuff that you do in the movie business, those things are adding to the fact that you trust each other and you are able to move forward, and maybe contribute and make it even better.”
The ‘Matilda’ actor’s co-star Michael Keaton – who plays entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere in the movie – added that whenever he gets a call from Burton to star in one of his films, he never turns him down.
Keaton added: “When I personally get a call, and I bet Danny would say the same, you pretty much say, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna be there.’
“So you just kind of show up and it’s never disappointing.”
The ‘Jack Frost’ star – who also starred in Burton’s 1992 sequel ‘Batman Returns’ and the original, plus his fantasy horror franchise ‘Beetlejuice’ – quipped that even if they make a bad film one day, it will still be a blast to work together.
He laughed: “Some day we are going to make a really horrifically bad movie – and it’s still going to be fun to make.”
Burton also agreed with his colleagues that their strong bond of more than two decades has been crucial to making great movies together, and admitted that it was “very strange” how he got on with Keaton immediately the first time they met.
He explained: “But, also, I’ve seen the guy for 20 years, right.
“And all of a sudden, the next day I worked with him, it was like I’d just seen him the other day and that is a very strange feeling to have in your life when you haven’t seen someone in so long and it’s boom, like I saw him yesterday.
“It’s a very strange feeling.”

Killing Eve could go on for ‘years’ to come

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Killing Eve’ could go “on, and on, and on”.
The producers of the hit BBC crime drama, Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris, have suggested that the show – which stars Jodie Comer as killer Villanelle and Sandra Oh as titular MI5 detective Eve Polastri – has the potential to become a long-standing fixture on the small screen, for as long as it can be given a “refresh”.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, Sally said: “If you made it up in the first place, you can make it up again.
“So I think it can go on, and on, and on – you just have to refresh it all the time.”
Jodie – who previously starred in shows like ‘My Mad Fat Diary’ and ‘Doctor Foster’ – admitted portraying Villanelle has allowed her to show off her “versatility” as an actress and enabled her to “learn more” about herself.
Speaking about the “overwhelming” reaction to the first series, she said: “What I love about Villanelle is that she is many characters within one, and she has enabled me to hopefully show some versatility that people may not have expected from me.
“There has been such an overwhelming response to ‘Killing Eve’ that when I meet people, they are enthusiastic about talking about it and they enjoy it so much. It’s been wonderful to have all sorts of conversations.
“Going to the set is so fulfilling because not every day is the same. There is always something thrown my way to challenge me. So I think I have really been able to grow and learn more about myself.”
‘Killing Eve’ – which is based on Luke Jennings’s tome ‘Codename Villanelle’ – is set to return to screens on April 7, following the gripping cliffhanger, which saw Eve stab Villanelle after she pretended to have fallen in love with her just to get her into bed, and left viewers on the edge of their seats and with plenty of unanswered questions.
Jodie previously hinted that viewers will find out more about her mysterious character in the second season.
She teased: “People’s questions about Villanelle are always: does she have emotions; does she have morals?
“You know, we have these glimpses of her maybe feeling something, but what is it? What is it that we don’t know?
“That’s definitely something that we’ve explored in series two, whether she is battling with her conscience – what’s under there?”

Captain Marvel impresses at the box office

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Captain Marvel’ opened to a whopping $302 million at the international box office.
The latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – which features Brie Larson in the titular role – also managed an impressive figure in the US box office, raking in a whopping $455 million overall.
‘Captain Marvel’ also cemented itself in the history books, and was the fifth highest international opening weekend of all time, and the second highest for a superhero movie.
Meanwhile, Brie previously revealed she hopes ‘Captain Marvel’ will spark a global conversation about diversity.
She shared: “I’m just doing what I can do, based upon my experience and my one body, which is why representation on screen is so important. No one person can tell the entire story, we can only tell our piece of it. With films like this, that do end up going international, because a lot of the time, with smaller movies, you don’t know if they will or not, it means you get to have a really extensive conversation, and I’m so grateful that this film has so many pockets in it.
“If you want to just enjoy it, you totally can, but there a lot of aspects to it that I think are worth talking with your friends and family about. When you have a multi-cultural, global conversation like that, it allows all of us, through the veil of metaphor of a film, to be able to reveal some deeper truths and maybe empathise, in a new way.”

Brie Bella quits wrestling

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Bella is retiring from wrestling.
The 35-year-old grappler made the decision to bow out from in-ring competition following her bout against Ronda Rousey at WWE’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event ‘Evolution’ in October and has just broken the news to her twin sister Nikki Bella that not only was she quitting the sport to focus on her 22-month-old daughter Birdie, but she and husband Daniel Bryan are moving back to Phoenix, Arizona.
In scenes aired on their reality show ‘Total Bellas’ on Sunday (10.03.19), Brie told her sister: “So I decided after Evolution, I’m gonna be fully retired. Fully done and that Bryan and I are looking for a house in Phoenix because we’re moving back… Birdie is truly number one.”
The former WWE Divas champion’s announcement came as a shock to her twin sister, as she felt it was a subject they would have discussed together.
She said in a confessional: “I’m a bit shocked right now hearing Brie say that she’s going to retire and move to Phoenix.
“Like talk about dropping two huge bombs. I guess retirement, I always thought that’d be something Brie and I would talk about together. I just did not expect this big change after such an incredible comeback.”
Despite Nikki’s shock, Brie is confident she’s making the right decision.”
She said: I love WWE, but the one thing I learned is that I can’t do everything. I just can’t.
“I know deep down inside that I’m making the right decision, that the boots have to be hung, that I need to go back to Phoenix and just really put more concentration on the things that are in my future instead of what was in my past.”

Maisie Williams close to Lena Headey

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Williams has a “close” bond with Lena Headey.
The 21-year-old actress claims the ‘Game of Thrones’ cast is like “one big family” but she has a particularly special friendship with the 45-year-old actress – who has son Wylie, eight, with ex-husband Peter Loughran, and daughter Teddy, three, with spouse Dan Cadan – even though her character, Arya Stark, wants nothing more than to see Lena’s alter ego Cersei Lannister dead.
Maisie said: “I’ve been close with her for a long time. When I first met her she didn’t have any kids and I was 12 years old and now she’s a mother of two. We’ve been with each other for these crazy times in our lives.
“Knowing someone for a decade is huge and she’s always treated me like a grown up. She always respected me on a real level and for that I’m so grateful.”
The British actress also revealed the cast are involved in a secret WhatsApp group, in which they mainly post funny pictures of one another, and she’s vowed to make the images public one day.
Speaking at the Glamour Beauty Festival in London at the weekend, she said: “We have a ‘Game of Thrones’ WhatsApp and people just post really funny pictures of one another from various seasons
“I think there was a rule that these do not go on Instagram… but I’m definitely going to put them on Instagram.”
Maisie admitted at the event she’s told her mother how the show ends and she recently said she can’t wait for the episodes to air so she can talk about them with other people.
She said last week: “It’s going to be a relief to be able to speculate once its all done and I can talk to people about the ending and what they all thought.”

Jennifer Lopez surprised by proposal

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez was “surprised” by Alex Rodriguez’s proposal.
The retired baseball star got down on one knee to pop the question to the ‘Jenny From the Block’ hitmaker over the weekend during a romantic vacation in the Bahamas and though they are very happy together, the 49-year-old singer-and-actress wasn’t expecting to get engaged.
A source told People magazine: “Jennifer is ecstatic and so are their families and friends. Very few people knew Alex planned on proposing.
“It was very much a surprise for Jennifer. It was just how Alex wanted it.”
The ‘Shades of Blue’ actress – who has twins Max and Emme, 11, with third ex-husband Marc Anthony – is the “happiest she has ever been” with 43-year-old Alex, and their friends think they are true “soulmates”.
The source said: “They are incredible together. Very much soulmates that bring out the best in each other and are so supportive of each other.
“From the start, they moved very quickly. Their relationship was always very passionate. Jennifer quickly fell very hard for Alex. And she quickly started planning for the future.”
According to the insider, Jennifer and Alex – who has daughters Natasha, 14, and Ella, 10, with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis – had discussed getting married “from early on” in their relationship but the ‘On the Floor’ singer “realised that she wanted to live more in the moment” and “enjoy what they have together with the kids”.
Alex’s proposal came just a month after Jennifer insisted she didn’t need to get married right now.
She said: “Among our children and work and all the wonderful things that happen, we are really living our best years.
“We are grateful for this and we do not need anything else at the moment. We have to do things at our own pace.”

Danny DeVito feels ‘really good’ after Dumbo press conference tumble

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito is feeling “really good” after taking a tumble during a recent press conference.
The ‘Dumbo’ actor – who is busy promoting Tim Burton’s live action adaptation of the Disney animated classic about a flying elephant – has laughed off the awkward moment, revealing he is doing well after taking what seemed to be a hard fall on his way up to the stage and joking he hit the deck because he didn’t have the character’s feather which gives him the confidence to soar.
He told Extra: “I’m in great shape, I am really good. As I say to people, I am known to throw myself at the press and I did that day try to emulate Dumbo… but I didn’t have my feather with me, did not fly.
“I just flew on that stage. It was amazing — I didn’t get hurt at all. Here you are in Mexico, you are promoting the movie, I come onstage, I caught my foot on the top of the step. I knew I was going, I just went with it, surfed across the stage. It was like a flop.”
The 74-year-old star joked that he asked everyone gathered in the room not to “print the picture” of the embarrassing moment, but he admitted he knew it wouldn’t stay behind closed doors.
He laughed: “Of course I said, ‘Don’t print the picture’, and I knew everyone was going to print the picture.”
Meanwhile, Danny previously praised the “never-give-up” mentality behind ‘Dumbo’, and told his fans that “dreams do come true”.
He recently added: “In life, you see all the different things that infiltrate the good things in life. Things that surprise you come out of nowhere. Like when you think you’re making a move with someone who maybe is duplicitous.
“In terms of a younger person, or an older person, by now you guys must have learned this already, I hope, but the idea is that you can’t always believe what somebody tells you.
“Sometimes it messes up all your hopes and dreams, but if you all stick together possibly you could get out of it and there’ll be a happy ending.”

Kym Marsh would sing for acting role but rules out musical comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh would love to sing for an acting role but has no plans for a musical comeback.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star – who will be leaving the cobbles later this year after playing Michelle Connor for 13 years on the soap – has shrugged off speculation she could be set to reignite her pop career after getting her break with ‘Pure and Simple’ hitmakers Hear’Say before enjoying a solo career and then moving into acting.
Writing in her column for OK! magazine, she said: “There was a story last week that said I haven’t ruled out a return to music when I leave ‘Corrie’ later this year.
“I enjoy singing and if an acting role, which involved singing, came up, then great! However, I’m not planning on making a comeback musically – you won’t see me making a new album!”
Although Kym, 42, recently announced her plans to leave ‘Corrie’ and explore other projects, she admitted she hopes the door is left open for a return in the future.
Quizzed on whether Michelle might get killed off, she replied: “Well, I hope not.”
When asked if she’ll definitely be back on the cobbles, she replied: “I’ve said I’m taking a break, so yeah. I think it’s just a break for me. Being there for 13 years without taking anytime away…”
While she has played down suggestions of moving into music, she also dismissed the idea she could swap soaps for the world of reality TV.
She previously said: “There were reports that I was going to appear in the next series of ‘Strictly’ or ‘I’m A Celeb’ … as wonderful as those shows are, I’m not leaving ‘Corrie’ after thirteen years to do reality TV.
“Another big factor in my decision to take a break from ‘Corrie’ is the impending arrival of my grandson. I’m looking forward to having more time to spend with him and Emilie after he’s born this summer.”

Claire King: Kim Tate will be most hated person in the UK

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire King thinks Kim Tate will “be the most hated person in the country”.
The ‘Emmerdale’ star is set to return to the ITV soap this week, and she has joked her “super b***h” alter ego – who will set her sights on tempting Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) away from his romance with Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye) – can take over from US President Donald Trump “for a while”.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: “Coming back to ‘Emmerdale’ was very daunting but the best decision I’ve ever made.
“It’s so much fun playing a soap super b***h as you can get away with saying things you’d get a deserved slap for in real life! I don’t think she could be any bitchier – she just sees her goal and aims for it no matter who’s in the way.
“And I think she’ll probably be the most hated person in the country for a while, until we see a softer side (and yes, she does have one!) I think Donald Trump can relax for a while!”
The 56-year-old across is glad to be heading back to the Yorkshire Dales, having first spent a decade on the soap after her debut in 1989, before her alter ego returned again for a cameo appearance last year.
Meanwhile, she insisted she is “totally different” to her character, and quipped that the only similarities are their identical looks.
She added: “It’s odd to think people get a little confused between fact and fiction and think I’m like Kim, heaven forbid! I’d need a bodyguard if I were!
“Apart from looking like her, I am totally different. I’m way more down to earth and far lower maintenance!”

Paddy McGuinness is at war with Holly Willoughby

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy McGuinness is determined to get “one up” on Holly Willoughby and become the biggest star on TV.
The ‘Take Me Out’ host has recently signed up to co-present ‘Top Gear’ and is set to be one of the team captains on ‘Celebrity Juice’ alongside the blonde beauty, but his ambition doesn’t stop there as he wants to keep grabbing new jobs in order to land more screen time than the ‘This Morning’ and ‘Dancing On Ice’ star.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m trying to get one up on Holly. I’m trying to break her record for one person doing the most shows on telly.
“We’re already competing – so when she got the ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ gig last year I was devastated! I have got quite a few to go to catch up with her.”
Paddy – who has twins Penelope and Leo, five, and daughter Felicity, two, with wife Christine – may be hoping that more jobs on the box leads to his family being impressed as he admitted barely any of his loved ones reacted when he landed the ‘Top Gear’ job.
He said: “We never really talk about it. I get the odd message from my auntie when she’s seen me on something, but no-one really cares to be honest.
“It’s a bit odd. I think I got just one text message when I got the ‘Top Gear’ job and that was it.”
The 45-year-old star previously spoke of his excitement at landing the ‘Celebrity Juice’ job because he has such a “natural rapport” with Holly and a close friendship with host Keith Lemon.
He said: “I was a guest on the first ever episode and I’ve done every series since so I’ve always felt like part of the Juice family. Keith’s one of my best mates, I love Holly and we all have a natural rapport. I’m looking forward to the chaos!”

Neil Jones forgives wife Katya for Seann Walsh kiss

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Jones has forgiven Katya Jones for kissing Seann Walsh.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professionals’ marriage was rocked last year when the Russian dancer was pictured locking lips with her celebrity partner, but the 36-year-old star has been able to “accept” she made a mistake and they have moved on.
He said: “I think, for me, I can accept people make mistakes. My mum always said: ‘People make mistakes in their lives. Don’t react, try to understand’. So that is how it always is for me.”
And the couple were also thankful for the support of their families during the scandal.
He said in a joint interview with HELLO! magazine: “When our family contacted us seeing something has happened and that’s not nice, but they said, ‘We know you, and we still love you, we know you have made a mistake.”
Katya added: “That’s what helped us get through it. We only focused on people who know us and love us.”
The 29-year-old dancer admitted it was “quite shocking” to be thrust into the spotlight as a result of the kiss, but her biggest concern was for Neil.
She said: “We knew we just had to sort it out ourselves. It was quite shocking to be suddenly so exposed and everyone has an opinion on it but we just wanted to focus on us. My first thought was for Neil.”
The scandal saw Katya bombarded with cruel comments online so her husband urged her to “stop looking” because she was getting so upset.
She said: “I look at everything as a massive learning process. But actually drop by drop, people typing horrible and unkind things about you, does affect you. The hate I felt made me very sad. Neil told me, ‘Stop reading, stop looking’. I knew I had to focus on what I do best, my dancing, my choreography, my job to the best of my ability.”

John Barrowman sleeps with doors and windows open after ‘I’m A Celebrity’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Barrowman can no longer sleep without having the windows and his bedroom door open.
The ‘All Star Musicals’ presenter – who is married to Scott Gill – admitted spending three weeks in the jungle for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ last November has completely changed him and a lasting effect of his stint in camp is that he needs a flow of fresh air running through the house at night.
He told Weekend magazine: “Having slept outdoors for three and a half weeks, I got back to Palm Springs and told Scott I needed the bedroom door open as well as the sliding windows at the back of the house to let the air in.”
And Scott has seen a different side to his spouse’s personality since he returned home from Australia.
John added: “Scott says I’m calmer because of the jungle too.”
During his stint on the show – in which he came third – John realised he isn’t comfortable with change because Noel Edmonds entering the camp late left him feeling uneasy.
He said: “I didn’t like it when Noel Edmonds came in.
“It was nothing to do with him, but we had to change from being all together in a camp to suddenly being under someone’s rule.
“I was very quiet after that for three days. Then I was chatting with Anne Hegerty and she said she finds change difficult, which rang a bell in my head.”
While the show ended three months ago, the contestants are still in regular contact with one another.
John said: “We have a WhatsApp group and talk to each other most days.
“I got particularly close to Emily Atack and Sair Khan, and I got on really well with Harry Redknapp.
“The thing I found hardest was the boredom in our downtime. I find it difficult to sit and do nothing.”

Faye Brookes is ‘proud’ of ‘epic’ Corrie love story

OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Brookes is “proud” of her “epic love story” on ‘Coronation Street’.
The soap star – who plays Kate Connor on the cobbles – is delighted her alter ego’s relationship with Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) is back on track, with the couple recently getting engaged after several months of drama.
She recently told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine: “It’s been a true love story, and I’m so proud of all the things we’ve accomplished together. And I also know that with the storyline we’ve been given, there’s nobody I could have done it with apart from Bhavna.
“It’s been all or nothing on every level, from the moment we met on screen to the moment she’s gone. Just an epic, epic love story.”
Despite the on-screen couple being in a better place now, it doesn’t look like the characters will get a happy ending, with actress Bhavna set to leave the soap later this year.
Faye added: “The look on her face, I was like, ‘Oh no, she’s got something really awful to tell me.’ I really felt for her because she was nervous to tell me, but I said, ‘This is what you need to do. That’s your choice and it’s your career.’ ”
She also revealed that while she doesn’t blame Bhavna for stepping away from the cobbles to pursue other projects, she doesn’t have any plans to follow her co-star out of the exit door.
She said: “I don’t resent her for any of it. She’s gonna fly no matter what she does. But I’m not going anywhere! It’s not my time yet.”

Paddy Doherty has cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy Doherty is battling prostate cancer.
The ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner will undergo two operations on Tuesday (12.03.19) but admitted he’s spent months in so much pain, he considered taking his own life.
He said: “I’ve been to hell and back with this and it’s worse than getting a horrendous beating.
“The pain got so bad that I actually thought about taking my own life on two occasions.
“But I just couldn’t do that to my family – and instead I just drank myself into oblivion.”
The ‘Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ star originally kept his diagnosis secret but decided to speak out to urge other men to get checked.
He told The Sun newspaper: “The only people who have known about this are my wife, my brothers and sister. And it was my wife who suggested I should speak out about the condition – she said it might encourage other men to get themselves checked out.
“Men don’t talk about these things – especially travellers. But the bottom line is this – I was in a bad way.
“I started dreading going for a wee because I was having so much trouble passing water. I had to force it out and the pain became excruciating. I wouldn’t inflict it on my worst enemy.
“Then I started passing blood too – lots of it – and I just knew I had to go to see a doctor.
“After several tests, he told me straight: ‘Paddy, you’ve got cancer in your prostate.’ I know people think I’ve got this tough image but I just started stuttering. I couldn’t speak properly – it’s when you hear that word ‘cancer’.”
Paddy, 60, instantly feared the worst but his doctor told him they had caught the disease in time.
He added: “It sounds dramatic but I said to him, ‘Have I got to put things right at home, doc ?’ Will you tell me ?
“I was basically asking if I was going to die. He told me to try not to worry and said, ‘We’ve got you, we’ve got you in time.’
“He uttered those words in front of a nurse and that gave me some relief because surely you wouldn’t say that in front of a witness unless it was true.”
Paddy initially underwent a steroid treatment but it “didn’t work” so on Tuesday, he will have one operation to remove his prostate and another to rectify a blood loss problem and though he’s “scared” about the surgery, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to beat the disease.
He said: “I don’t know how long I’ll be in hospital or anything about the possible after effects. I’d rather not know and I haven’t asked any questions.
“Of course I’m scared about going on the operating table – I have to be. But I don’t want to leave this world so what choice do I have.
“You have to put your trust in these surgeons and I just hope other fellas won’t wait as long as I did before seeking help.
“This has definitely been the biggest battle of my life but it’s one ill determined to win.”

Jesse Eisenberg hopes Zombieland 2 has heart of first film

OHMYGOSSIP — Jesse Eisenberg wants ‘Zombieland 2’ to be as “personal and funny” as the first film.
The 35-year-old actor has revealed that shooting on the sequel to the 2009 horror comedy, which is currently known as ‘Zombieland: Doubletap’, is going “really well” and says that the cast are working “so hard” to replicate the positive fan reaction that the first movie garnered.
Speaking at the SXSW Conference and Festival, he said: “It’s going really well. Just resting on our laurels and being really cocky!
“No, the opposite. We’re working so hard. It’s one of these movies that, people loved it for personal reasons. So it’s not just a big hit movie. People love it for personal reasons so you want to make sure it’s as funny and as personal as the other one.”
The ‘Social Network’ star will return as Columbus alongside Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin who all reprise their roles from the original movie.
Luke Wilson, Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson have been confirmed as new characters, but it is not yet known who they will play.
The film will be set in a post-apocalyptic world which sees slayers facing new breeds of zombies, as well as encountering some fresh human survivors.
The first movie was a huge success when it was released a decade ago, and in the US it over-performed with a box office haul of $75 million from a budget of under $25 million.
Production is set to start this month, and a release this coming October will mean the project will fall on the 10th anniversary of its predecessor.
‘Deadpool’ writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese will be back penning the scripts, while they will be reunited with director Ruben Fleischer at the helm.
