Pearl Jam amp up the guitars on new song Dark Matter from upcoming album

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Jam have unveiled their new LP, ‘Dark Matter’, and shared the thunderous title track.
Eddie Vedder and co have unveiled their 12th studio album, which is set for release on April 19, and shared the thumping lead single on streaming platforms.
The ‘Alive’ group recruited producer to the stars Andrew Watt – who has worked with everyone from Justin Bieber to Ozzy Osbourne – to oversee their follow-up to 2020’s ‘Gigaton’ after he worked his magic on frontman Vedder’s 2022 solo LP ‘Earthling’.
The new album is guitar-heavy with their very own axe-slayer Mike McCready recently teasing in an interview with Classic Rock magazine: “We have a bunch of songs tracked.
“We worked with Andrew Watt, who’s a younger pop producer-type guy, but he’s really a rock guy at heart — I think we’re his favourite band. When we were in the studio with him this past year, he really kicked our a**es, got us focused and playing, song after song.”
He continued: “There’s the melody and energy of the first couple of records. Andrew pushed us to play as hard and melodic and thoughtful as we’ve done in a long time. I feel like Matt Cameron’s drumming has elements of what he did in [fellow grunge legends] Soundgarden.”

‘Dark Matter’ tracklisting:
1. ‘Sacred Of Fear’
2. ‘React, Respond’
3. ‘Wreckage’
4. ‘Dark Matter’
5. ‘Won’t Tell’
6. ‘Upper Hand’

Beyonce announces country-themed album and drops two singles

OHMYGOSSIP — Beyonce has confirmed plans to release a country-themed album and dropped two new singles.
The pop superstar made the announcement about her new music in an advert for Vorizon which aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday night (11.02.24) in which she attempted to break the internet with stunts including a hologram called Beyonc-AI and a a film called Barbey before she declared: “OK, they ready. Drop the new music. I told y’all the ‘Renaissance’ is not over.”
After the commercial aired, she immediately released two new singles ‘Texas Hold Em’ and ’16 Carriages’ and confirmed ‘Renaissance Act II’ – the second part of her planned ‘Renaissance’ trilogy – will land on March 29.
The new album is a follow up to 2022’s ‘Renaissance’ and will be followed by a third record in the future.
At the time she released ‘Renaissance’, Beycone revealed she started work on the project during the COVID-19 pandemic and recorded the albums over the course of three years.
She explained: “This three act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative.
“Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world.”
Beyonce also launched a tour and a concert film ‘ Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce’ off the back of the first album and she recently thanked her fans for all their support for the movie.
In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done because of the short turn around time. I practically slept in the edit, colour, and mix sessions.
“The race against time continued in order to get this film out so quickly. But it was so worth all the grind. I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from my Hive. And WOW! I am so touched and encouraged by the incredible reviews!!! (sic)”
Beyonce was also thrilled that she’s managed to reach new fans. The award-winning star added on the photo-sharing platform: “I also love seeing the positive take aways from people who were not my fans or didn’t yet know my story.
“The people who had no interest in seeing my shows who have now gained a deeper understanding and respect for all it takes to be a RENAISSANCE woman. (sic)”

Billy Joel marking 100th Madison Square Garden concert with a TV special

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time’ concert special was announced at the Super Bowl VIII on Sunday (11.02.24).
The ‘Piano Man’ will end his record-breaking stint at the iconic New York City venue, which first began back in January 2014, on July 25, 2024, with his 150th show.
And before the big game kicked-off at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, CBS announced the two-hour special, which will be filmed on March 28, and will mark Joel’s 100th consecutive performance at MSG.
The ‘Uptown Girl’ hitmaker said at a press conference last year: “I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did.
“My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but 10 years, 150 shows – all right already!”
The special will air on Sunday, April 14 at 9 pm ET/PT via CBS and Paramount+.
News of the programme comes after the 74-year-old singer released ‘Turn the Lights Back On’, his first single in 17 years, earlier this month.
Joel explained the huge gap was because he had lost the “fun” of writing songs.
Speaking with his co-writer Freddy Wexler on ‘Audacy Check In’, he said: “It was fun. Music is fun. Rock n’ roll was fun. It was all about having fun — and I kind of lost that and I turned the lights off because it wasn’t fun anymore.”
Joel explained how, over the last 17 years, other people encouraged him to get back into the studio but he “always resisted it”.
He added: “I studiously avoided it because songwriting had become painful. I have this high bar. I said to myself, ‘If I don’t reach that bar, I beat myself up and I punched myself and I hate myself.’ So, I stopped doing it because I got tired of feeling like that.”
But when he heard what Freddy was working on two years ago, his love for creating new music began to return.
He said: “The melody, the chords, the chord progression, even the time signature was something that struck me immediately, and that’s how I relate to music.
“This particular lyric in this song, I’ve had these thoughts, I could have written these lyrics verbatim. I’ve chewed on these words and I’ve thought of these words, and I’ve said these words before. It was all kind of falling into place — and who am I to fight that?”

Liam Gallagher blasts Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after Oasis’ nomination

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has slammed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after Oasis were nominated for entry into the museum.
The legendary Britpop group’s former frontman is not happy to have been shortlisted alongside his estranged brother, ex-guitarist and chief songwriter, Noel Gallagher, and their bandmates for the class of 2024.
He fumed on X/Twitter: “**** the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of BUMBACLARTS LG x (sic)”
Ozzy Osbourne, the late Sinead O’Connor – who died last July, aged 56 – Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, and Cher are also among the nominees.
Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. and Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool and the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Sade and A Tribe Called Quest complete the list.
John Sykes, the chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement: “This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honours and celebrates.
“Continuing in the true spirit of rock and roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”
Ozzy, 75, was already inducted as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006, and if he is voted in, he will become the 27th person to have multiple places, joining the likes of Sir Rod Stewart, all four Beatles, Jeff Beck, Stevie Nicks and Jimmy Page in having two, while Eric Clapton has three, one on his own and others as a member of both the Yardbirds and Cream.
Speaking after the nominations were announced, Ozzy said in a statement: “I’m deeply honoured to receive this news from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“To be one of the few musicians who’s being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of.”
Honourees will be announced in April and the ceremony will be staged in the autumn of 2024.

Paramore are ‘freshly independent’ and vowed to stick around for a long time

OHMYGOSSIP — Paramore have declared themselves an independent band after splitting from Atlantic Records.
Hayley Williams and co have confirmed they are running their own career and vowed to be around for as long as possible, whilst also revealing they are Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024.
In a lengthy Instagram statement, Paramore said: “After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience).
“Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a light on independent records stores — a vital part of our journey from music obsessed school friends to professional music makers. With that being said, we are humbled to be your Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024. The timing feels kismet.”
The trio – completed by Zac Farro and Taylor York – continued: “The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic.
“Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy.
“Thankfully, for all our sakes, there still survives among the chaos, the purity and radical simplicity of a great record store.
“Independently yours, Paramore.”
The news comes after fans feared the ‘This is Why’ group had split after they wiped their social media accounts and website and pulled a handful of concerts.
However, it was seemingly just to signify the end of their recording deal.
Paramore also recently released a cover of ‘Burning Down The House’ for a Talking Heads tribute album, and ‘This Is Why’ was crowned Best Rock Album at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, with the ‘Misery Business’ hitmakers making history as the first female-fronted act to win the prize.

Usher at Super Bowl 2024: Singer left empty golden drum kit onstage in memory of late drummer Aaron Spears

OHMYGOSSIP — Usher paid tribute to his late drummer, Aaron Spears, during his Super Bowl VIII Halftime show by leaving an empty golden drumkit onstage.
The R’n’B superstar wowed with his star-studded set during the halfway point of the major NFL tournament – which saw the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 – at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Sunday (11.02.24).
And if you take a closer look at his band, as well as sticksman Devon ‘Stixx’ Taylor’s kit, there was one unused set of drums in memory of Aaron, who died, aged 47, in October 2023, and was also drummer for the likes of Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.
He received a Grammy nomination for Usher’s 2004 album ‘Confessions’.
In a eulogy at his Celebration of Life, Usher hailed Aaron his “hero”.
The Grammy-nominated musician’s widow, Jessica – the mother of his son August – shared the sad news of his passing in October.
In a moving tribute, she wrote: “Aaron was not only an incredibly accomplished drummer, admired by many for his unparalleled talent and passion for music, but he was also a devoted father to our precious son, August.”
She continued: “His love, guidance, and warmth were the pillars of our family, and his absence leaves a void that words cannot describe.
“We are blessed to have him in our lives, his legacy will live on through the beautiful rhythms he created and the love he shared with us.
“We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please remember Aaron for the incredible person he was and the amazing music he brought into our world. At this time we ask for privacy as we work our way through this. With Love Jessica and August.”
Meanwhile, Usher was also joined onstage by the likes of Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris, H.E.R. and will.i.am at the Super Bowl.

Jennifer Lopez admits she might have made her ‘LAST album ever’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez has confessed ‘This Is Me… Now’ could be her last ever album.
The ‘On The Floor’ hitmaker, 54, has admitted her new record – which is all about her relationship with Hollywood actor husband Ben Affleck, 51, and drops on Friday (16.02.24) – feels like an “end of an era” and the “beginning of a new one”.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “We did a bunch of different album covers.
“We try to do stuff that’s very special for the fans and do collector’s items and things like that that they can have forever and ever. The truth is I don’t even know if I’ll ever make another album after this. It’s such the kind of quintessential kind of Jennifer Lopez J.Lo project and I really feel very fulfilled, so they really will be collector’s items at a certain point.”
Asked about it being her last studio collection, she said: “Don’t tell Benny [Medina, manager and collaborator] that that’s what I’m thinking – this might be my last album ever.”
She further explained: “I feel like it’s the end of a kind of an era for me and the beginning of a new one, so I would never say never, but right now I feel like I really put my heart and soul into this and I’m very excited and it definitely took a lot out of me.”
‘This Is Me… Now’ is a follow-up to 2002’s ‘This Is Me… Then’.
However, the ‘Marry Me’ star’s last studio album was 2014’s ‘A.K.A.’.
Meanwhile, Jennifer recently dropped a huge hint she could be set for her first global tour in 12 years.
The ‘Jenny from the Block’ singer and actress believes her upcoming record is well “suited” to a “live experience”.
She told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “I kept telling my team, I was like, ‘You have to understand, I’m going to perform these songs. I’m going to bring them to life onstage, and it needs to be down in the ground. We got to dig. And they understood it and they gave it to me.
“I really want to [tour]. I believe that there’s nothing that’s more suited to being live and having a live experience than this record.
“I don’t have any official kind of ‘this is it right now,’ but I am very keen to get out there and perform this music for sure.”
Jennifer’s last big run of shows was her ‘It’s My Party Tour’ in 2019, when she played gigs in the US, Canada, Israel, Russia, Turkey, Spain, and Egypt.

Engelbert Humperdinck wants to become Glastonbury’s oldest performer

OHMYGOSSIP — Engelbert Humperdinck wants to perform at Glastonbury.
The 87-year-old singer – who will be 88 in May – is aiming to become Glastonbury’s oldest ever performer this year, beating the record help by the late Burt Bacharach, who was 87 when he played the festival in 2015.
Engelbert told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I wouldn’t mind doing Glastonbury. I’d have to have the right songs for that show. But my new project may give me that opportunity.
“It’s out of my comfort zone and taking me into a different style, which may lead to Glastonbury.”
Englebert also revealed one of his career regrets is when his manager turned down a collaboration with Gorillaz in 2010.
He said: “That was a terrible mistake. I would’ve jumped at the chance if they’d spoken to me.
“Hopefully, with this new project, I’ll be able to work with these sort of people. I want to record with them.”
Meanwhile, Engelbert recently collaborated with EMIN on a big band rendition of ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’.
The 44-year-old Azerbaijani singer – who was named the People’s Artiste of Azerbaijan in 2018 – joined forces with Engelbert for the Elvis tribute collection ‘Now or Never’.
EMIN first met Engelbert in Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku, in 2012, when the ‘There Goes My Everything’ singer represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Love Will Set You Free’, and EMIN was the half-time performer.
He said: “Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved the music of Engelbert. I have a treasured photograph of my mother holding an Engelbert album taken when she was a young girl, and it is a dream come true for me to have created this wonderful duet with the legend that is Enge.”

Luke Combs calls Tracy Chapman duet ‘a defining moment of my career’

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Combs says his Grammys duet with Tracy Chapman was “a defining moment of my career”.
The pair teamed up for a stunning performance of Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ and Luke, 33, admitted to being “in awe” of Tracy, 59, and the influence her music has had on the world.
He wrote on Instagram: “When it comes to the performance it’s still hard to process how amazing it really was to be up there on that stage. No doubt a defining moment of my career. Tracy, I want to send my sincerest thanks to you for allowing me to be a part of your moment. Thank you for the impact you have had on my musical journey, and the musical journeys of countless other singers, songwriters, musicians, and fans alike. I hope you felt how much you mean to the world that night. We were all in awe of you up there and I was just the guy lucky enough to have the best seat in the house.”
Luke also praised his wife Nicole Hocking, who he married in 2020, for always supporting him.
He wrote: “What an unreal Grammy week to say the least. There were so many laughs, tears, hugs, and cheers that it almost doesn’t seem real. From the hotel hangs and rehearsals, to the dinners and post show pizza, the vibes were HIGH. I want to thank my whole team for working tirelessly to make this happen and my wife for always being by my side, I love you.”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor: ‘All those rules about pop being a young person’s game are absolute rubbish’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Ellis-Bextor says viral success shows that music isn’t just a young person’s game.
The 44-year-old pop star is having a renaissance after her 2001 hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ soundtracked a viral scene in the movie ‘Saltburn’ and subsequently went viral on TikTok, and she says it proves that the industry is less ageist these days.
She told Grazia magazine: “I’m still getting my head around it. It’s extraordinary. I think it’s a once-in-a-lifetime unique kind of thing.
“The pressure is off; [the song] has been such a defining part of my career already that this new adventure is just a feeling of pure enjoyment and not really worrying too much about what it all means.”
On why she thinks it’s still as relevant after more than two decades, she said: “The first time I performed it live I dedicated it to a friend who had just broken up with a boy, to make her feel better, so maybe there’s something timeless about songs that just want to bring people joy.”
On the changing music industry, she added: “What’s empowering is that when I started, because we didn’t have that viral element of music, there was a really small group of people who were dictating what got played.”
She explained the TikTok success “shows that people are able to think far more excitingly about music” and “all those rules about pop music being a young person’s game are absolute rubbish.”

Blur to release documentary and concert film

OHMYGOSSIP — Blur are to release both a concert film and a documentary charting their 2023 reunion.
The ‘Parklife’ hitmakers – comprising Damon Albarn, Dave Rowntree, Graham Coxon and Alex James – got back together for their first album in eight years, ‘The Ballad of Darren’, and a number of live shows, including two giant gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium, last year, and fans will get to relieve the biggest moments with the new projects.
According to Screen Daily, sales and distribution company Altitude have added the two titles to their European Film Market (EFM) slate, with both films set to be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland later this year.
The feature-length documentary will come first, followed by the ‘Blur: Live At Wembley Stadium’ concert film.
Both will be directed by Toby L, who helmed the promo for the group’s 2023 single ‘St. Charles Square’, as well as concert films from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Foals, and Olivia Rodrigo. Josh Connolly will produce via Up The Game, who also worked on the previously mentioned musical specials.
The news comes just a few weeks after frontman Damon declared it was almost time for Blur to “wrap up” again.
Speaking to French publication Les Inrockuptibles, as translated by Far Out magazine, he said: “It is time to wrap up this campaign.
“It’s too much for me. It was the right thing to do and an immense honour to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah-blah-blah.”
He added: “I’m not saying I won’t do it again, it was a beautiful success, but I’m not dwelling on the past.”
Damon has an opera coming out and he is preparing to start work on another album with his animated group Gorillaz with Jamie Hewlett.

Stevie Wonder to close Glastonbury?

OHMYGOSSIP — Stevie Wonder is in talks to close Glastonbury.
The ‘Superstition’ hitmaker – who previously headlined the festival in 2010 – is in negotiations to top the bill on the final night of the annual event, which runs from 26 to 30 June, after negotiations with Madonna broke down over money.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “It will be a massive coup if we get him.
“Many reckoned his set [in 2010] was up there with the best seen here.”
It has previously been claimed Madonna, Coldplay and Dua Lipa would be headlining this year’s festival, but talks with the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker broke down after organisers Michael and Emily Eavis refused to pay the huge fee to bring her ‘Celebration’ live show to Worthy Farm in Somerset.
A source previously told the Mail on Sunday: “To be honest it’s been a real blow not being able to nail down a deal with Madonna.
“Emily was so keen to have her play the legend slot. After she saw Madonna’s tour in London in October she raved about her on Instagram, something she rarely does without Glastonbury in mind.
“But everyone knows that after last year, and the criticism over the gender balance, we’ve got to have big name females heading the line-up. Dua Lipa is a real catch. Now we need another.
“There is still some hope it an be resurrected but it’s pretty unlikely. There are money issues at the root of this, it’s a real shame.”
Coldplay have previously headlined the festival in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016, while it will be Dua’s first appearance as a headline act.
Emily previously hinted Madonna could be set to top the bill.
Speaking to Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on their podcast ‘Sidetracked with Annie and Nick’, she shared: “I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we’ll be booked up from July. But this year we’re holding out for a little bit longer.
“And then last week I got a call from [a representative of] a really big American artist saying, ‘This person’s around next year’, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is incredible. Thank God we held the slot.'”
The timing of the call coincided with Emily seeing Madonna at The O2 in London, but she insisted people shouldn’t read too much into her posting online about the gig.
She said: “It was incredible. I just was blown away by it to be honest.
“I walked away and I was like, ‘I’ve got to post about this’. I’ve posted about going to lots of gigs before, but I didn’t expect it to be quite such big news.
“Everybody knows that I’ve always wanted Madonna to play Glastonbury.
“It’s not a big news story.”

Liam Gallagher planned to take break before John Squire asked him to collaborate

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher was going to take a year off before John Squire asked him to work together.
The former Oasis frontman and the ex-Stone Roses guitarist have joined forces on a self-titled album and are set to embark on a tour together, but Liam has admitted that after his pair of sold-out solo shows at Knebworth in 2022, which saw John join him to perform ‘Champagne Supernova’ again like he did when Oasis held two record-breaking shows there in 1996, he was going to take it easy for a year, until John got in touch.
Speaking to Guitarist magazine, Liam said: “I mean, obviously, without the Roses, I wouldn’t be here. They got me on my musical path and that, so I thank them 24/7, you know what I mean? I was gonna have a year off after Knebworth, but when John rang up saying, ‘Look, I’ve got these tunes, I thought, I’m in, mate! There’s only so much sitting about on the sofa you can do. I love Mother Nature’s Song, that slide bit towards the end. But listen, I love Squire, man. He’s a [an amazing] guitarist, probably the best of his generation. So I’m into it all.”
John, 61, had initially been on the lookout for a female vocalist, before he got Liam, 51, involved.
John said: “I had a catch-up with my managers, and it was just a casual comment, but I mentioned I was writing again and I wondered if they could keep an eye out for a good female vocalist.
“I started getting audio clips, but nothing seemed quite right and it fizzled out. Then I was asked: ‘Liam’s doing a Knebworth anniversary show – you played at the first one, do you want to play at the second one?’ It was at the rehearsal that I first talked about this album with Liam.
“After the second show, I started talking about how we were going to collaborate, and he said, ‘No, you’re writing it, and as long as there’s loads of guitars, I’m in? That was everything I needed to hear.”
So far, fans have heard the singles ‘Just Another Rainbow’ and ‘Mars to Liverpool’ from their joint record, which is released on March 1.
