Coldplay announce new version of A Head Full of Dreams LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay are releasing a special Surround Sound version of their album ‘A Head Full of Dreams’.
The band – frontman Chris Martin, drummer Will Champion, guitarist Jonny Buckland and bassist Guy Berryman – are presenting the acclaimed LP in 5.1 Surround Sound, which Coldplay’s producer Rik Simpson says is the ultimate format in which to listen to the record.
Rik – who co-produced the album with Stargate – said: “The album was always conceived by the band as a dreamlike, kaleidoscopic sweep of music so it was fantastic to be able to take it to its furthest conclusion with a trip into a surround-sound dreamscape.”
The new version of the album will be available from September 23.
‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ was first released in December 2015 and as well as lavished with critical acclaim it has gone on to sell over four million copies worldwide and contains the singles ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’, ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ and ‘Up&Up’.
Coldplay have also embarked on their biggest ever stadium tour in support of the LP playing mammoth shows at Wembley Stadium in London and headlining Glastonbury for a record-breaking fourth time.
For the historic festival appearance the band were joined on stage by Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb and Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis, who sang Frank Sinatra’s standard ‘My Way’ with them on stage.
Chris and co are currently having a well-deserved break from the ‘A Head Full of Dreams Tour’ but it will resume on November 19 in Mumbai, India.
The Blu-ray audio release of ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ is available to order via Coldplay.com now.

Justin Timberlake to play first UK gig in two years

OHMYGOSSIP —
Justin Timberlake is set to play his first UK gig in two years.
The ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ hitmaker – who last graced British soil for a concert in 2014 – will perform a show, hosted by Capital FM, at indigo at The O2 in London on October 3.
He said: “I love London and I love Capital. London is one of my favourite places in the world to perform because the crowd is always amazing. I always miss the UK when I’m away and I’m so happy to fly in for Capital listeners – see you soon, London!”
The radio station is putting on a number of shows as part of the new Capital Up Close with Coca-Cola series, where listeners are brought closer than ever to the world’s most famous stars at an intimate venue, and Justin is the first big name to be nabbed. Ashley Tabor, Global’s founder & executive president and Capital’s managing editor, explained: “Renowned for his showmanship and standout performances, Justin is one of the world’s biggest solo artists and no stranger to selling out stadiums right across the globe. We’ve created Capital Up Close to give music fans the chance to see the world’s biggest artists up close and personal and I’m so pleased we’re kicking the series off with one of the most talent and inspirational musicians in the world, Mr. Timberlake. This is going to be one incredible show!”
Meanwhile, it seems Justin – who has also made a name for himself in the acting industry – is on a mission to throw himself back into his music as he recently teased that he and his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears, whom he dated for three years in 1999, are hoping to collaborate on a new song in the future.
Asked if he had heard Britney has requested to work with him, Justin – who has 17-month-old son Silas with his wife Jessica Biel – said recently: “She did? Sure! Absolutely, absolutely.
“I have a 17 month old so I don’t get the headline news. I apologise for not being in the know … I’m accessible, give us a call!”

David Bowie gave approval of Lazarus Cast Album

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie gave his seal of approval for the ‘Lazarus Cast Album’ to be made before he died.
The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize paid tribute to the late ‘Starman’ hitmaker – who tragically passed away in January at the age of 69 from cancer – on Thursday night (15.09.16) with the cast and band of the original New York production of Bowie’s musical ‘Lazarus’ performing his song of the same name.
Speaking at the awards ceremony at London’s Eventim Hammersmith, the show’s musical director Henry Hey revealed: “I got a call very early in the morning.
“I wrote to everyone saying: ‘When you wake up you will get this news but David really wanted this album and we have to make this album.’
“Everybody felt that way. It was a very beautiful day at the same time.
“At least we can be together and celebrate his music and celebrate this thing.”
Meanwhile, lead actor Michael C Hall – who performed a rendition of the Bowie song – said that the music legend was “childlike” and “ebullient” that the musical was to go ahead.
Michael told the Daily Star newspaper: “We were humbled by being entrusted to make it happen and encouraged he was so positive and inclined to express a sense of gratitude to us. He was remarkably childlike and ebullient that it was happening and that was fantastic.
“Lazarus’ opening in London is a good way of Bowie coming home.”

Metallica still tweaking new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica are still making changes to their album – nine weeks before its release date.
James Hetfield has revealed the group are still hard at work on their new album ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’, which is due to be released on November 18.
He told US radio station 93.3WMMR: “There’s always something: ‘Ah, this is a little too long-winded. Let’s cut this out. Let’s make this a little more potent.’
“We’re craftsmen, and we want to make this as sharp and potent as possible. So all the way up to the last minute, even the running order, there’s always something we’re thinking about and trying to make it the best.
“It is, by all means, done as far as songs go. So it’s just artwork and little things here and there we’re still working on.”
Meanwhile, drummer Lars Ulrich previously revealed the group have remained a “level-headed” band because they were inspired to do so by Iron Maiden and Motorhead.
He said: “I would like to think that we have dealt with the success that we’ve been fortunate enough to have come our way in a fairly level-headed way.
“The bands that inspired us and the bands that made us want to be in a band ourselves – like the Motörheads and the Diamond Heads and the Iron Maidens of the world – were all bands that were very level-headed and had their feet firmly planted on the ground.
“So we’ve always tried to have an open door with our fans and be as accessible as possible, given whatever dynamics and circumstances were happening at the time.”

Calvin Harris sings on new track

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Harris is the vocalist on his new song ‘My Way’.
The 32-year-old DJ staged a competition earlier this week for fans to guess who would be the mystery artist singing on the track and after previously teaming up with the likes of Rihanna, John Newman, and Ellie Goulding, he thought it was time to throw in a “curve ball” and take over microphone duties himself.
He said: “I like to sing on a song every two or three years, or so.
“I just kind of thought it was a bit of a curve ball. I kind of like the idea of just tracking something out without a celebrity guest feature, and I think the vocal works so why not.”
Calvin – whose 2014 single ‘Summer’ was the last time he took lead vocals himself – admitted fans are unlikely to be hearing any more new music from him in 2016.
He told iHeartRadio: “This (‘My Way’) is probably the last thing I’ll put out this year. I did something with Big Sean for him, which he said might be out this year – which I really hope it is, because I love that. Apart from that, that’s it. One song at a time. That’s my new mantra. Try to make each song as good as it can possibly be. I’m not trying to do an album. I’m just trying to do good music.”
The news may surprise fans as the ‘This Is What You Came For’ hitmaker has posted a lot on social media about being in the recording studio this year, but he insists he wasn’t always working.
He said: “I’ve been in the studio a lot. But it doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve been working. I just kind of mess around. Just trying to let the ideas come to me. Just trying to figure out what’s going on.”

Skepta wins 2016 Mercury Prize

OHMYGOSSIP — Skepta has won the 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize.
The 33-year-old Grime artist took home the coveted award for his album ‘Konnichiwa’ at a ceremony held at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo in London on Thursday (15.09.16), beating favourite David Bowie, who was nominated posthumously for ‘Blackstar’.
During his speech, Skepta said: “I want to say thank you to every single person that made ‘Konnichiwa’ happen.
“Everybody who knows that it takes to put an album together… Everybody who was there for me when I was going through depressed times.”
He also thanked his parents for their support.
Judge Jarvis Cocker said: “If David Bowie was looking down on the Hammersmith Apollo tonight – and maybe he is, we’ve seen traces of his influence in many of the acts tonight – he would want the 2016 Mercury Prize to go to Skepta.”
The prize aims to celebrate the best British albums from the past year and the 12 nominees were announced last month.
Bat for Lashes, Jamie Woon, Kano, Laura Mvula, Michael Kiwanuka, Savages, The 1975, The Comet is Coming and Anohni were among the performers at Thursday’s ceremony.
Michael C. Hall also performed ‘Lazarus’ to celebrate ‘Blackstar’ being shortlisted.
He was starring in the Bowie musical ‘Lazarus’ when the singer passed away in January in New York after a secret cancer battle.
Before his performance, Michael said he hoped Bowie would win and added: “[Being asked to perform] is an unspeakable honour.
“It’s as humbling and gratifying as anything I’ve ever been invited to do.
“I can’t think of an exit from the stage more profound and chillingly beautiful than David’s.”
The judging panel previously said “This is music to make sense of our unsettling times – heartfelt, angry, thoughtful and thrilling. The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ are marked by their musical ambitions, unexpected instrumentation and breathtaking arrangements.”
The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize for ‘Album of the Year’ comes with £25,000 prize money.

M.I.A. admires Zayn Malik

OHMYGOSSIP — M.I.A. has praised Zayn Malik for flying the flag for Muslim musicians.
The 41-year-old hip-hop star recently teamed up with the former One Direction on their track ‘Freedun’ and says she admires Zayn because of his bravery in going solo and the fact he stands up for himself as a half Pakistani.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: “I like Zayn because he’s going through something really weird.
“He’s going solo in a time where the world is getting more and more divisive.
“The pressure on him is more and more, because of the fact that he’s half Pakistani., and he tweets s*** like #FreePalestine.
“He’s gone from not talking about something to having to carry all the pressures of somebody who embodies all these things .
“Even if he’s not playing that card, we project all that s*** on to him.”
Talking about how they came to collaborate, M.I.A. – whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam – previously said: “We just basically did it while I was here, because I’ve been here for a week-and-a-half.
“We’ve just been going back and forth on, you know, WhatsApp.”
The ‘Sunshowers’ hitmaker also previously revealed she had worked with the 23-year-old R&B singer before she decided to focus on her upcoming EP.
She explained: “We have the same publishers and they wanted me to demo some songs for Zayn.
“Before I started writing properly my own stuff [for ‘AIM’], I was thinking maybe I’ll write for other people instead. I really wanted to write a song for Zayn … We had a couple people in common. And that’s how it came about.
“I didn’t really approach him for my own record until later on. First, I thought I wanted to try writing a song for him.”
‘Freedun’ features on M.I.A.’s latest LP ‘AIM’, which she has said will be her last.
She recently admitted: “It’s the cleanest album I have. It’s my last record so I just want it to be happy. There’s no complaints on it.
“I’m sure I’ll put music out and make music, but as an album, this just came together after ‘Borders’ and it just seemed like it wrote itself very quickly. I had to just go with it.”

McFly to start new album in January

OHMYGOSSIP — McFly have confirmed they will begin their sixth album in January 2017.
The ‘All About You’ hitmakers recently revealed they scrapped two entire albums worth of material, but now singer Tom Fletcher has said he sees the record containing completely new material despite having songs laying around.
Asked when to expect their follow-up to 2010’s ‘Above The Noise’, He said: “New year, new album. We’ll start writing [in January].
“We’ve got album songs that could be ready to go, we don’t want to take away that exciting part of being in a band.
“[But album six] was natural, it didn’t sound anything like ‘Above The Noise’ … We recorded it live as much as possible, in one take… I imagine the next album will be mostly new songs.”
However, one of the tracks that will be featured on the new record will be familiar to fans.
Drummer Harry Judd has revealed ‘Getting It Out’, from Busted/McFly supergroup McBusted’s 2014 self-titled LP, will be on the new album.
He added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “One of the songs from album six ended up on the McBusted album, which was ‘Getting It Out’. We recorded it in Texas but then recorded it for the McBusted album.”
The 30-year-old sticksman recently admitted that McFly fans “hated” McBusted – which was comprised of Busted’s Matt Willis and James Bourne and himself, Tom, Dougie Poynter and Danny Jones.
Harry says they are keen to get new music out because their fans were “frustrated” with the ‘Air Guitar’ band.
He said: “It’s been a while since we have just been McFly and a lot of our fans are frustrated.
“Although McBusted has been a success, a lot of McFly fans were like, ‘I hate McBusted!'”

Snoop Dogg wants joint tour with Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem

OHMYGOSSIP — Snoop Dogg wants to do a “joint tour” with Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem.
The ‘Young, Wild and Free’ hitmaker previously trekked around the globe with the 51-year-old rapper in 2000 when they performed a series of gigs for their ‘Up in the Smoke’ tour and also headlined Coachella together in 2012.
And, although the 41-year-old chain-smoking hip-hop artist wants to join forces with his pal once again, he has admitted they’d like to pull in the other two as well.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said: “I think [a joint tour] makes sense more than anything. A Snoop-Dre album would be amazing, but a tour even more, because we have legendary music the world has yet to see us perform globally. I’m pretty sure he wants to do it. He just wants the team in place. Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre – that’s the dream team for him.”
Meanwhile, Snoop is certainly racking up his concert collaborations as he recently performed with Wiz Khalifa at the Call of Duty: Experience 2016 gaming convention on September 4 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Prior to that, the hip-hop pair performed a series of gigs as part of their Merry Jane Presents Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa: The High Road Tour.
However, their concerts haven’t been without drama as 42 people were reportedly hurt during their show at the BB&T Pavilion in New Jersey last month when a railing collapsed.
Shortly after the incident occurred, fans were told to wait around as they expected the concert to resume.
However, given the severity of the situation, it was subsequently decided to cancel the event altogether.

Gorillaz LP could feature rejected Adele songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Damon Albarn has hinted that he might use songs Adele rejected on the new Gorillaz album.
The 48-year-old musician has been recording fresh material since last September for the animated band’s first LP since 2011’s ‘The Fall’ and when asked if he plans on using material recorded with the ‘Hello’ hitmaker, he didn’t say no.
He said: “I never waste anything.”
The ‘Feel Good Inc’ hitmaker previously revealed he had worked on Adele’s latest album ’25’ but none of his contributions made the cut, leading him to label the LP “very middle of the road” prompting Adele to publicly state she wished she had never agreed to work with him.
However, Damon says their feud is no longer relevant.
He told The Sun newspaper: “It’s not really important. None of that matters.”
Meanwhile, asked when fans can expect Gorillaz’ first album in five years, Damon said: “Soon. Of course, we’ll be touring and doing festivals. I have spent the summer in the Atacama Desert in Chile, recording in Jamaica then down in Devon.”
Revealing his and Adele’s studio sessions Damon previously said: “Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her. And I’m not a producer, so … I don’t know what is happening really. Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so. Let’s wait and see. The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young.”
The 27-year-old pop superstar responded to his comments and said: “It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments. And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.”
Explaining why his material didn’t make the final tracklisting of ’25’, Adele – who has a son Angelo with her partner Simon Konecki – explained: “None of it suited my record. He said I was insecure, when I’m the least insecure person I know.
“I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved – because he has a child – and then he calls me insecure!”
It was recently revealed that De La Soul have worked on a song for the record along with Snoop Dogg.

Rick Parfitt fears stage return

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Parfitt is terrified he might “drop dead” on stage.
The 67-year-old rocker suffered his third heart attack and spent several days in a coma after a gig in Turkey in June and he will be unable to join Status Quo’s final rock tour, which begins next month, after being ordered to rest by doctors.
And Rick – who, along with bandmate Francis Rossi, had previously announced the group will only play less demanding acoustic shows in future – has admitted he is wary of ever returning to the stage at all.
He told Sky News: “I’m just aware of the nervousness I get before I go on stage. It does pump your heart slightly when you start to pace up and down the room, and you’re about to go in front of thousands of people. Obviously it’s going to have some effect on you.
“I do not want to tax myself in any way. I’ve been told medically not to. So whether it’s a full gig or a cameo I’d still get fairly nervous and I do not want to get out on stage and drop dead in front of the fans. I do not want to do that.”
The ‘Whatever You Want’ hitmaker has apologised to his fans for missing the tour because his “rock and roll lifestyle” has finally caught up with him.
He admitted: “I’ve got to apologise to the fans really because it’s my fault. You live the rock and roll lifestyle and at some stage you’ve got to pay for it. And I’m now paying for it. So it’s my fault that I’m not with the band now.”
Rick admits his latest heart attack has been a “reality check” and he’s now quit drinking and smoking.
If he is unable to cope with the demands of touring with Status Quo, the veteran musician is planning to launch a less gruelling solo career.

Adele to quit touring to look after son

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele plans to stop touring in favour of looking after her son.
The 28-year-old singer is currently in the midst of gruelling 107-world tour – her first live shows since 2011 – but fans are unlikely to see her perform for the next decade as she doesn’t want her three-year-old son Angelo, who she has with partner Simon Konecki, to have to cope with the upheaval of life on the road.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Angelo is the number one priority for Adele. He is the most important thing in her life. She has brought him everywhere with her on tour but as he is starting school next year, he won’t be able to join her any more.
“Adele doesn’t want to miss a moment of Angelo growing up and it’s an easy decision for her to give up touring for him. Right now she is saying she won’t do another massive world tour like the current one for another 10 years.”
However, the ‘Hello’ superstar is open to following the likes of Britney Spears and Celine Dion in having a residency in Las Vegas, but not in the near future.
The source added: “But she is going to consider doing a Las Vegas residency — something which has already been put on the table.
“A regular Vegas show appeals to her because it is in one place and she would be able to maintain a normal life, but it won’t happen for a number of years.”
Adele admitted during her gig in Philadelphia at the weekend that she struggles with touring.
She said: “I don’t know how many of you know this but I don’t really consider myself to be much of a touring artist.
“I’ve never gelled very well with touring as I’m a real homebody.”

Madonna teases new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna has teased that she’s working on new music.
The 58-year-old Queen of Pop has taken to social media to tell her 7.9 million followers that she will release new music if her fans do their “homework”.
Alongside a selfie posted to Instagram on Tuesday night (13.09.16), she wrote: “If You do your homework maybe I will give you more ………. (sic)”
The last music from the ‘Like A Virgin’ hitmaker was her 2015 LP ‘Rebel Heart’.
Meanwhile, Madonna has also been busy putting together a live DVD from her world tour, which finished in March, and is hoping to release it in November.
She recently posted on Instagram: “Finally watched a rough assembly of Rebel Heart tour and happy to say it should all be finished in 2 months!! Time to go to WORK!! Thanks to all my fans for being so patient (sic)”
Back in July, R&B artist Qweci – formerly known as Ded Buddy – claimed that he co-wrote a song for the legendary pop star and said she is working towards a new album.
At the time, he said: “Back in the States, I co-wrote a song for American songstress Madonna which is not yet released.
“I wrote the song, so it’s one of the songs which is actually being pushed to her right now to be released. I co-produced, co-arranged and stuff for Madonna’s album.”
‘Rebel Heart’ topped the US chart and peaked at number two in the UK.
It spawned her latest singles ‘Living For Love’, ‘Ghosttown’ and ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’.

Travis and Franz Ferdinand members form supergroup

OHMYGOSSIP — Travis’ Fran Healy and Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos have formed a supergroup.
The ‘Flowers in the Window’ singer has written two songs for the new band – also comprised of members of the bands Grandaddy, Band of Horses and US indie outfit Midlake – for their project called ‘Banquet’ which is expected to drop early next year.
Fran, 43, told Scotland’s Daily Record: “The idea was Midlake get four singers they liked, and the singers all wrote a few songs with Midlake as the backing band.
“So there’s me, Alex from Franz Ferdinand and the guys from Grandaddy and Band of Horses.”
News of the supergroup comes after the departure of Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy from the ‘Take Me Out’ rock outfit.
The 41-year-old rocker – who has five-year-old son Vito Gernedel with his wife Manuela Gernedel – decided to put an end to his 14-year-career with his band to focus on his family.
In a statement, the band announced: “Nick will not be taking part in the recording or touring of the next Franz Ferdinand album.
“When we record and tour, it takes a long, full time commitment lasting a minimum of a year and a half, most of which is spent away from home. Nick has a young family and does not want to be away from them for such a long period.”
Franz Ferdinand have wished Nick, who also played keyboard, all the best for the future and made it clear that he would be able to rejoin the band at anytime.
They continued: “We look forward to hearing what he gets up to. This is not necessarily a permanent situation and we will let you know if circumstances change in the future.”

Calvin Harris to give away five signed back catalogues

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Harris is set to give away signed back catalogues of his work and “tonnes of merchandise” to five lucky fans.
The 32-year-old DJ has struck up a competition on Twitter in the run up to the release of his new single ‘My Way’, which is set to drop on Friday (16.09.16), in a bid to get his followers to guess who has provided focus for his forthcoming track.
Taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday (13.09.16), he wrote: “Guess who featured vocal is on My Way hashtag #CalvinMyWay I’m gonna choose 5 people to win entire signed back catalog plus tons of merch
“Include #CalvinMyWay in ur guesses or I won’t see them!!”
The ‘This Is What You Came For’ hitmaker will close the competition just after the song has dropped and will announce his five winners later on that day.
He explained:”I’ll pick winners on Friday until then keep guessing #CalvinMyWay (sic)”
Meanwhile, it seems his guessing game could be a regular occurrence on his social networking sites as it’s believed he’s decided to scrap albums from now on and just release singles as and when they are ready to drop due to the peak in online music streaming sites such as Tidal.
A source said: “Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward.
“Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts.
“Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success.”
