Chance The Rapper to perform at the White House's National Christmas Tree Lighting

OHMYGOSSIP — Chance the Rapper is set to perform at the White House’s National Christmas Tree Lighting.
The 23-year-old rap artist will perform at the annual event on December 1 alongside a line-up also consisting of Kelly Clarkson and gospel star Yolanda Adams.
The ‘Cocoa Butter Kisses’ musician will make his White House performance debut at the Christmas Tree Lighting, whilst both Kelly, 34, and 55-year-old Yolanda are veterans of the stage.
The ‘Because of You’ singer appeared at current President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013 when she sang ‘My Country ‘Tis of Thee’, whilst Yolanda has performed at White House ‘In Performance’ events twice, both celebrating Ray Charles and the Civil Rights Movement.
Despite Chance never performing at the White House previously, he has a history with President Obama as his father worked for him when Obama was a state senator for Illinois. Back in April this year, Chance was among several hip-hop artists to be invited to meet with Obama to discuss the My Brother’s Keeper initiative which helps keep young people away from crime.
President Obama is also a fan of Chance’s music, as he recently featured his song ‘Acid Rain’ on his summer playlist.
Speaking about the President, Chance said previously: “He brings me up to his office, and we had a really good conversation about what I was working on. He told me I needed to start selling my music. He’s a good man. Even if he wasn’t president, if his ass worked at, like, Red Lobster, he’d be just a good man working at Red Lobster.”
The White House’s National Christmas Tree Lighting event will be ticketed via a free ticket lottery that will open for the general public on October 7.

Joe Jonas was scared of streaming

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Jonas used to think music streaming was “scary”.
The DNCE singer admits he was wary of changes in the music industry that saw physical albums decline in popularity thanks to services such as Spotify, but now thinks the current situation is “exciting” because his songs can reach more people than ever before.
He said: “[The shift] was scary for a lot of artists because we weren’t sure where the music industry was going.
“But to say we have songs that have been played over 200 million times is pretty unreal. We figured out that it’s not scary, it’s actually exciting because you can find ways to connect with your audience.”
Before forming DNCE, Joe found fame with siblings Kevin and Nick in the Jonas Brothers and is thankful the current climate within the music industry has allowed him to reinvent himself.
He said: “[I wanted to form another band during Jonas Brothers] but the time never seemed right.
“[I’m thankful] we’ve come to a place where you can re-create yourself in the music industry.”
And Joe explained in a discussion with Spotify global head of artist services Mark Williamson that DNCE had used automated feedback from the site to determine the songs that would appear on his group’s upcoming self-titled debut album.
In return, Mark shared some statistics with Joe, such as Mexico City having the band’s most fans and their female-male fan base being a surprising 57:43.
The 27-year-old singer had guessed 80:20 and quipped: “Wow, thanks guys.”
The ‘Cake By the Ocean’ hitmaker insisted the statistics, such as which tracks are popular in certain regions, are very “useful” for the group.
Speaking on stage at New York Advertising Week on Tuesday (27.09.16), he said: “Those tools are useful for us. We just got back from touring Mexico and we have a song, ‘Jinx,’ and they know every word. It’s massive in Mexico.”

Metallica record tribute track to Lemmy

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica’s new song ‘Murder One’ is inspired by late rocker Lemmy.
The heavy metal band have penned the track – which features on their upcoming album ‘Hardwired… to Self-Destruct’ – in tribute to the Motorhead frontman who died in December 2015 from an aggressive form of cancer.
The song features many of Lemmy’s lyrics and the group – James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo – collectively made the decision to celebrate the ‘Ace of Spades’ hitmaker’s life as they are all big Motorhead fans.
In an interview on satellite radio station Sirius XM, singer James said: “Motorhead had a lot to do with Metallica sitting here right now. Lemmy as an entity – a kind of father figure – helped us a lot. He was unafraid and he was a character. And he was himself. We all respected that so much. He did his own thing to the last breath. No matter who you are, how could you not be inspired by that?”
Drummer Lars says if he hadn’t gone to Motorhead shows when he was younger then he would never have believed that Metallica could make it in the music business.
The 52-year-old sticksman said: “When I came back to Southern California, I called James up and said, ‘Listen, we’ve got to give this a shot.’ Motorhead is the catalyst.”
Metallica will release their 10th studio album on November 4 and it is the band’s first full LP since 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic’.
They recorded it with producer Greg Fidelman, who worked with them on ‘Death Magnetic’ and ‘Lulu’, the collaborative album the foursome recorded with late singer/songwriter Lou Reed in 2011.

Kenny Rogers is retiring from music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kenny Rogers is to quit music in 2017 as he believes he’s “had [his] turn”.
The 78-year-old country legend will call time on his career after his ‘The Gambler’s Last Deal Tour’ concludes in Danville, Kentucky, on April 8, 2017.
Kenny has made the decision to retire because he believes he has “done everything” he can as a songwriter.
Speaking to reporters during a conference call, ‘The Gambler’ hitmaker said: “I’ve done everything I set out to do. Every goal I’ve set, I’ve done that, and there’s a point where you have to say, ‘I’ve had my turn. Let someone else have it,’ and that’s kind of where I am.”
For the ‘Lady’ musician, the decision comes largely out of a need to spend more time with his family, specifically with his 12-year-old twin sons Justin and Jordan, who he has with fifth wife Wanda Miller.
Kenny missed out on seeing his older children, Christopher, Carole, and Kenny Jr. grow up, and wants to remedy that with his younger children.
He said: “I have two older boys and I didn’t get to spend this time with my older boys, and I resent it because it’s a very special time in a kid’s age. My [younger] boys are playing football this year, and we went to watch a game and they were so excited about us being there, and that’s the kind of thing that as a parent you want to be part of as much as you can.”
And the ‘Islands in the Stream’ musician says he has no regrets about his decision to retire, as he finds the actual act of performing shows a lot harder than it used to be now that he’s older and has even had to change his show to make it easier for him.
He said: “I thought it was going to be easy but I’m so tired and it’s not as easy for me to get around. I’m not as mobile as I used to be. I’ve changed the show totally. The show’s about an hour and a half long, and I go through a chronological look at my life that includes all my music.”

Robbie Williams begged Ed Sheeran for song on new LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams begged Ed Sheeran to send him a song for his comeback album.
The ‘Rock DJ’ hitmaker has revealed he emailed the 25-year-old singer/songwriter in a moment of panic to ask him if he had any songs laying around that would make his forthcoming LP ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’ a hit.
Robbie, 42, said: “[I thought,] days are running out for the album, ‘Have I got enough hits? Are there enough hits? I’ve got Ed Sheeran’s email. I’ll send him an email and see what happens. One last hope.”
The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker soon responded to the hunky pop star and sent him a song he’d written which was inspired by the film ‘Pretty Woman’.
Robbie told The Sun newspaper: “[I wrote,] ‘Dear Ed, Robbie Williams here. Do you have any spare hits?’ And he sent me this song about ‘Pretty Woman’. I added a chorus and I think the song is fully formed.”
The ‘Kids’ singer is thrilled that Ed agreed to give him the song as he thinks the flame-haired star is a “phenomena and “incredibly talented”.
He added: “I’m honoured that he said yes and I’m honoured that I get to be in Ed’s thoughts. You can’t not be a fan of Ed.
“He’s a phenomena. And also the nicest guy. He’s incredibly talented.”
Robbie’s 11th studio album – his first in four years – also features songs co-written by The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, as well as his long-term collaborator Guy Chambers.
Robbie has been working on the album since the release of 2013’s ‘Swing Both Ways’ and admitted the tracklisting has seen a number of changes.
He said: “I’ve been working on this album like I work on all the other albums, it’s been a process of three years, some of these songs that have been on the album I’ve had three years ago, and I’ve had on my computer and I’ve been very excited about them and the new ones have taken their place and then the old ones have gone, and then the old ones come back up, the new ones, it’s just a process that’s been years in the making.”
‘Heavy Entertainment Show’ will be released on November 4.

The Eagles hint at reunion with Glenn Frey's son

OHMYGOSSIP — The Eagles may reform if Glenn Frey’s son agrees to front his late father’s band.
The ‘Get Over It’ frontman sadly passed away in January at the age of 67, and the band’s last performance came a month later at the Grammys.
However, drummer Don Henley has hinted that a reunion could be on the cards, but only if Deacon Frey, 22, decides to sing in Glenn’s place.
Sticksman Don, 69, said: “At some point in the future, we might work our way round to that. You know, Glenn has a song who can sing and play.
“And one of the only things that would make sense to me is if it were his son.”
In the past Glenn – who also had Otis, 13, and Taylor, 24, with his spouse Cindy – had let Deacon join the band on stage to showcase his own vocal talents.
Don also hasn’t ruled the possibility of former bandmates
Timothy B. Schmit, Joe Walsh and Jackson Browne rejoining the group in the future.
However, the only way there will be any kind of reunion is if Deacon agrees to step up to his legendary father’s place.
In an interview with Canada’s Montreal Gazette, he said: “With Jackson, of course, we could do ‘Take It Easy’ and a couple of other things, but the only way I would consider any kind of reunion, I think, would be with Glenn’s son, Deacon.”
However, Don admitted that the group are still “healing” following the death of their bandmate – who lost his life in New York after battling against various intestinal issues – and hadn’t had a discussion about the possibility of getting back together.
He said: We’re still going through the healing process – trying to get through all this. And those are things that might happen somewhere down the road.
“But right now everybody’s doing the solo thing.”

Fleetwood Mac recording new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleetwood Mac are recording a new album.
The ‘Go Your Own Way’ hitmakers haven’t released a studio LP since ‘Say You Will’ in 2003 but Christine McVie has revealed they are hoping to get back into the studio to complete work on a record they started two years ago, though Stevie Nicks is currently too busy to join them.
She said: “We cut seven songs in the studio already for the start of a brand-new studio album, which we did probably nearer two years ago.
“We shelved that temporarily and then went on the road and did the tour. And now, actually, I think we’re going back in, in October to try to finish it off.
“Stevie hasn’t participated yet, but hope springs eternal. She’s going on a solo tour at the moment.”
Christine and bandmate Lindsey Buckingham have “plenty” of “fantastic” songs ready to be recorded for the record.
She added to Rolling Stone magazine: “Lindsey (Buckingham) and I, we have plenty of songs.
“There are tons more in the bag that we have yet to record. And they’re fantastic. So we’re going to carry on and try to finish the record. And then maybe if Stevie doesn’t want to be part of that then we can go out and just do some smaller concerts.”
Though Stevie is currently unable to join her bandmates, Christine insists they wouldn’t do a big tour without her.
Asked if they would consider playing without Stevie, she said: “As a four-piece, yeah. With a view of doing a huge world tour after that, with Stevie.”

The Stone Roses announce UK shows

OHMYGOSSIP — The Stone Roses have announced three UK shows for 2017.
The ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ hitmakers will play Belfast’s SSE Arena on June 13, London’s iconic Wembley Stadium on June 17, and Glasgow’s Hampden Park on June 24.
The shows mark the first the ‘Waterfall’ musicians – comprised of Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani, and Reni – will have played since June this year when they took over Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium for four nights, aside from their headline slot at Scottish festival T in the Park in July.
The news was revealed after images of lemons – which are synonymous with the band after having featured on a number of posters and album artwork in the past – were plastered around Wembley on Monday (26.09.16). The same images were seen around record shops in Manchester shortly before the shows at the Etihad Stadium were announced.
Rumours have been circulating about a full UK tour, as well as a headline slot at 2017’s Glastonbury festival, but nothing else has been confirmed yet.
The news of new UK dates comes after the ‘Fool’s Gold’ singers recently confirmed they would be heading out to Australia to perform three dates at the Sydney Opera House. The shows will be the band’s first performance in Australia since they made a surprise appearance at Future Music Festival in 2013.
It is also as yet unknown if the band will release any new material alongside the UK shows. Ahead of their shows in Manchester this year, they released ‘All For One’ and ‘Beautiful Thing’, which marked their first releases in more than 20 years. At the time, it was rumoured that a full album was on the way, however there has been no more news on that since the release of the two singles.
Tickets for all three UK shows go on sale at 9am on Friday, September 30.
The Stone Roses UK tour:
June 13 – Belfast SSE Arena
June 17 – London Wembley Stadium
June 24 – Glasgow Hampden Park

FKA Twigs isn't going to rush her new music

OHMYGOSSIP — FKA Twigs isn’t in a hurry to release new music.
The ‘Two Weeks’ hitmaker – who dropped her debut album ‘LP1’ in 2014 – doesn’t want to rush her creative process and plans on taking the old approach of nurturing her songs and perfecting them before they end up going “viral” on the internet.
She explained to Dazed & Confused magazine : “I’ll release in my own time, I like to let things grow.
“Back in the day, you’d take songs out on the road for two or three years and then release them. That’s how long it takes for the band to get perfect. That’s unusual nowadays, because everything is so instant and everyone can see things straight away on the internet.
“But I’m sure there are plenty of songs that have been sung by amazing artists in a smoky room full of people, and only the people in the room have heard them. I guess I’m still trying to operate like that, even though it goes viral.”
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old singer – real name Tahliah Barnett – previously said she feels constantly “shamed” for being in the public eye and says people focus more on her rather than her talent.
She said: “Being in the public eye is so weird. People want to shame you. It’s not a celebration of a talent.”
Twigs – who is engaged to British actor Robert Pattison – also claimed most singers are just “vehicles”.
She said: “I’m a traditional showgirl in a sense. I spent years of my early 20s working among performance artists. That’s rule one of being an underground artist: You do your own makeup, hair, and costumes.
“Imagine if you were an artist that wasn’t being herself. Imagine you’re an artist that didn’t know how to do your own makeup, didn’t know how to do your own hair, didn’t know how to put an outfit together, didn’t write your own music, didn’t direct your own videos, didn’t produce your own music. They’re not artists. They’re vehicles, vessels. The majority of them are like that. Imagine how hard that must be.”

Britney Spears wows at iHeart Radio Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Britney Spears wowed on stage at the iHeartRadio Festival at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night (24.09.16).
The 34-year-old pop superstar was joined on stage by her ‘Make Me’ collaborator G-Eazy at the annual music extravaganza.
The pair flirted up a storm as they performed their summer smasher ‘Make Me’, as well as, the 27-year-old rapper’s song ‘Me, Myself & I’, which usually features Bebe Rexha.
Bebe, 27, got to meet her idol Britney at the event and couldn’t control her inner fangirl.
She said: “The performance was actually a surprise and I was kinda shocked. I almost wanted to cry!
“I met Britney backstage and I was: ‘Wow!'”
At the end of their racy performance the pair were showered in confetti.
Britney and G-Eazy – whose real name is Gerald Earl Gillum – were reunited just a month after the singer’s triumphant return to the MTV Video Music Awards.
At the MTV VMAs, Britney frolicked on the stage in a figure-hugging ensemble, and the curvaceous babe appeared to mime most of the slow-paced set until she was joined onstage by four female dancers and G-Eazy, who raps on a couple of verses of the new single.
At one point, Britney crawled onto her hands and knees and slithered through G-Eazy’s legs before placing her perfectly-manicured hand on the crotch of his tight black skinny jeans.
Once the set had finished, Britney threw her arms around G-Eazy before planting a kiss on his cheek.
This year’s iHeart Radio Festival saw several megastars perform over the weekend.
Highlights included Billy Idol teaming up with Miley Cyrus for a rendition of his hit ‘Rebel Yell’, Backstreet Boys did a surprise set and Usher was reunited with Ludacris and Lil Jon for ‘Yeah!’.

Travis' Fran Healy loves 'great singer' Rihanna

OHMYGOSSIP — Travis’ Fran Healy is a huge fan of Rihanna.
The ‘Flowers in the Window’ hitmaker feels there are only a “slew” of pop stars nowadays who are able to perform live without using a backing track and technology, and the ‘Work’ hitmaker is one of them.
He also thinks that because not many artists sing live that has given Travis – who returned with new LP ‘Everything At Once’ in April – an advantage as it makes them seem like a entirely different band.
Fran, 43, explained: “Every live show and festival is all backing tracks. It’s all karaoke and nobody’s actually playing, so that makes us feel like we’re a new band.
“Everyone mimes, but people don’t care as that’s not what music is about now. You don’t have to be able to sing as it’s all button-pressing.
“It’s all technology-driven, but music has always been driven by technology.”
Fran says the 28-year-old R&B superstar is just like Travis were back in the 90s when they arrived on the scene sounding like no one else and years later everyone else in that genre ended up copying their style.
He added to the Daily Star newspaper: “Personally, I really want to see great singers and Rihanna is a great singer.
“Rihanna has her own voice, and there are a slew of people that don’t.
“When Travis came through in the 90s, nobody sounded like our band. Then, two years later, every one sounded like our band!
“That’s the way the business goes and it’s why I look for originality.
“Rihanna has that originality, that extra something, and everyone else is copying it.”

Robbie Williams announces new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams will release his first album in three years on November 4.
The 42-year-old singer’s 11th studio LP, ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’, will feature songs co-written by Ed Sheeran and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, as well as his long-term collaborator Guy Chambers.
And Robbie is thrilled to have his working relationship with Guy back, after they fell out five years ago.
Speaking to Julie Adenuga in a special interview to be aired on her Beats 1 show on Monday (26.09.16) at 7pm, he said: “Me and Guy have been working together really for the last, again, for the five years. We did the ‘Swing’ album together, and he’s been MD on my tour, so I can’t really remember what happened five years ago, but we’re back in each others’ lives and I love him, he’s my musical brother, and you know, he’s my spiritual brother, and we just try to get back into the studio and recreate some magic, and hopefully reconnect with what made it and us successful in the first place.”
The album’s title track, ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’, is already available to download, while Robbie performed two songs from the record, ‘Motherf***er’ and ‘Sensational’ at his Apple Music Festival gig in London on Sunday (25.09.16) evening.
The record – which will be released as an 11-track standard LP of 16-track deluxe version which includes a behind-the-scenes DVD – is Robbie’s first on his new label Sony Music.

Dappy wants to do more reality TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Dappy wants to do more reality TV shows.
The former N-Dubz star has previously appeared on the British version of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ and has revealed he is interested in making more programmes, while also creating new music.
He shared: “I’m a fun character and I would love to bring the viewers of our country something fun like that via me going on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ and sending the country crazy because I would. I know I would.
“I’m [also] trying to do ‘Bear Grylls The Island’ – that’s something that would be amazing for me to do but we’ll see.
“I’ve been offered some other big TV things as well. I just want to have a good few consecutive hits and then once I’m back where I need to be and happily do shows.”
Dappy – whose real name is Costadinos Contostavlos – credits his appearance on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2014 as helping to change the perception of him.
He told Daily Star Online: “It was an honour to be in that house with all those great celebrities. The main thing is I changed the public perception of me when I went into the house. The people who were calling me violent, a monster, a chav – I was thinking, why do they think that?” he went on.
“I was thinking ‘let me go on there and show me my good side and I guarantee they’ll love me’. I came second, I think I should’ve won it, but thank God I went so far.
“Usually people go on it when their career is going downhill but that wasn’t the case for me. It was a case of showing people I’m a nice person.”

Meat Loaf: My father tried to kill me

OHMYGOSSIP — Meat Loaf’s father tried to kill him using a butcher knife.
The 68-year-old singer and actor has revealed that his alcoholic father tried to stab him to death during his younger years – but credits such incidents with having helped him in his career.
The American entertainer – whose real name is Michael Aday – explained: “My mother died young, of cancer. My father was an alcoholic, and coping with him, that’s really how I learned to act. But I love my father, I’ve forgiven my father. He tried to kill me with a butcher knife but all of that is just life. Alcoholism is a disease. You deal with it, you go on, you don’t hold grudges.”
Meat Loaf has enjoyed considerable success on the movie screen and as a musician. However, he has always considered himself to be an actor who sings, not the other way around.
He told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper: “You never see Meat Loaf, the one that’s talking to you, on that stage. And on any record I’ve ever done, you’ve never heard Meat Loaf sing a song.
“They’ve all been characters. Every time. I don’t even think I threw the shot putt in high school as Meat Loaf. I don’t think I could have thrown past twenty feet if I hadn’t been in character. The only time I don’t take on a persona is when I’m being interviewed.”
Asked why that is, he added: “It wouldn’t be interesting to me. It has no value.”

Earlier, Disciples opened the show at London’s Roundhouse.
They started their set with the popular hit ‘They Don’t Know’ as well as remixes of Gorgon City’s ‘Imagination’ and Jude and Frank’s ‘La Luna’.

“But there’s one reason I’m stood on this stage and that’s thanks to my good friend Calvin Harris. Thank him for this next track [‘Blame’].”
John also declared he uses music as a way to express his feelings and vent about matters plaguing his mind.
He said: “I think music doesn’t have to be for releasing and having number ones, you commit to music to get s**t off your mind, right?”
He continued his performance with ‘Not Giving In’ and ‘Can You Love Me Again’ before throwing the drum kit off the stage.
The Apple Music Festival continues until September 30 with performances from the likes of Britney Spears, Michael Buble and Robbie Williams.
For those who were unable to catch Calvin in person, the show – and the rest of the 10th annual free festival gigs – is available live and on-demand to Apple Music members in 100 countries.
