Zayn Malik's dad inspired his music

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik’s song ‘Intermission: Flower’ was inspired by his father.
The 23-year-old musician has opened up about the tracks on his debut solo album ‘Mind of Mine’, and says he penned the short song – sung in his father’s native language Urdu – because he wanted to “please” his dad.
Speaking in his upcoming book ‘Zayn’, he said: “[My dad] wanted the best for me, and I wanted to please him in return … I wanted to show him, as much as everyone else, that I could do it, and once the tracks started coming together with Malay and a number of other producers I’d been working with, I began to feel that I was really able to express myself vocally and I hoped my parents were going to see it from my side.
“Man, I know if Dad was to hear me sing like this,’ I said to Malay [his producer] one time, ‘it would mean everything.'”
And the One Direction member – who is in a relationship with model Gigi Hadid – also detailed how the song was influenced by the Pakistani musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a musician who his dad was a fan of.
The ‘Pillowtalk’ hitmaker explained: “[Malay and I] were talking about the Pakistani musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. I was really into him, because my dad had played his music a lot at home; I loved that the dude sang in Urdu, for one thing.
“Malay picked up the [guitar] and began playing a little riff, based on an idea I’d shown him earlier that day – a melody I’d been playing with. He added a few twists and, immediately, it sounded amazing.
“I was like, ‘Man, this is so cool. We should record some of this. And I think I want to sing this one in Urdu, like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.'”
The star also detailed how the track was largely improvised, and said the lyrics translate to: “Until the flower of this love has blossomed / This heart won’t be at peace / Give me your heart….”
Zayn’s tell-all memoir will be released on November 1.

Radiohead to headline Glastonbury 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Radiohead are the first act confirmed to headline Glastonbury Festival next year.
The ‘Creep’ hitmakers – consisting of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Phil Selway and Ed O’Brien -will perform at the music extravaganza at Worthy Farm, Somerset, south west England on Friday June 23.
The festival teased fans by sharing a picture of one of the fields on site with the band’s logo.
Alongside the photo, the wrote: “Friday 23 June 2017 @radiohead (sic)”
And festival organiser Emily Eavis confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: “YES! Radiohead will be back at Worthy Farm and we really can’t wait.”
It is the indie rock group’s third time headlining the famous Pyramid Stage, the last being in 2003 and they made their debut in 1997.
However, in 2011 they stormed the Park Stage with a surprise set.
Radiohead – who recently released their critically-acclaimed ninth studio LP ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ – were favourites to head up the main stage along with The Stones Roses and Lady Gaga.
It follows three successful sell-out shows at London’s Roundhouse in support of the new record.
Meanwhile, Daft Punk were also rumoured to be headlining this year.
However, Emily poured cold water on speculation.
She said: “As ever, 99 per cent of the rumours are untrue.”
And Kings of Leon recently expressed their desire to play before the festival has its annual break in 2018.
Singer Caleb Followill recently said: “We love Glastonbury.
“I think that was the first festival we played in Europe. Do they still do it where it’s on one year, off one year to the grass grow? … OK, then we’ll have to get on it in 2017. I’ll have to text Mr Eavis.”

The ‘Lose Yourself’ rapper – real name Marshall Mathers – uploaded the politically-charged anthem onto YouTube on Wednesday afternoon (19.10.16) and it has already reached over three million views.
Marshall, 44, has also teased his 20.8 million Twitter followers that he is working on a new record.
Sharing a link to the song, he wrote: “Don’t worry I’m working an album! Here’s something in the meanwhile (sic)”
The Detroit-based rapper recently returned to the stage when he joined ‘Views’ rapper Drake on stage in Detroit, Michigan.
The pair put to bed rumours there is a feud between them after he appeared on stage with the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker in August.
The 29-year-old singer teased the crowd that there would be a guest appearance during his performance.
He told said: “Do you think we’ll be able to look back and say, ‘Do you remember that one night in Detroit?'”
Eminem then graced the stage entering through a trap door for his third appearance in concert in eight months, which saw Drake bow to the ‘Love The Way You Lie’ artist several times .
On Eminem’s arrival, Drake introduced the star, saying: “Make some noise for the greatest rapper to ever get on a microphone.”
And Eminem admitted it was an “honour” to be standing next to Drake and performing with the musician.
He said: “It’s an honour to share the stage with this man right here.”
Eminem’s last studio release was 2013’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ and he released ‘Phenomenal’ for the movie ‘Southpaw’ in 2015.

Caleb Followill on Kings of Leon's 'honest' LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Caleb Followill says it has taken him until Kings of Leon’s seventh album to be “honest”.
The ‘Sex on Fire’ hitmakers recently dropped ‘WALLS’ and the 34-year-old rocker has admitted until this record he hasn’t been able to show his true feelings and share how “vulnerable” he has been in the past.
Speaking about the band’s extremely personal album, he admitted: “There is some honesty on these. It’s the seventh album and it took me this long to be honest and vulnerable at times. The guys all rallied behind me and told me to go for it.”
One of the most frank tracks, ‘Over’, was written when the group cancelled a tour in 2011 while Caleb was treated for alcohol addiction, and while it is “deep”, Caleb says wearing his heart on his sleeve has been “fun”.
Speaking about the song to Clara Amfo on UK radio station BBC Radio 1, he admitted: “That one is kind of deep. It was fun to write though. I like to write songs from the outside looking in and that was fun to create a character and put myself in there.”
Meanwhile, Caleb admitted that he never imagined the indie band would make seven albums, but he’s really “proud” of their latest offering and thinks they’ve found their “stride”.
He explained: “We never expected to make seven albums, we were just happy to make one. We took advantage of that and made albums as quickly as we possibly could. I feel like on our seventh album we really found our stride, there are some special things on this that we haven’t done before. We are very proud of it.”
Caleb – who is married to model Lily Aldridge – previously opened up about their personal record.
He said: “There are a lot of personal stories on this album… We’re still hungry and still young at heart.”
Caleb explained how his supermodel spouse’s brush with the supernatural inspired a love song called ‘Find Me’.
He said: “She stayed in this hotel in Los Angeles. This is going to sound weird and a lot of people will roll their eyes, but she felt like it was haunted. When she tells the story, it’s the scariest thing. So I took that and turned it into a love story.”

Clean Bandit's 'shock' over Neil Milan's exit

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto says it was a “shock” when violinist Neil Milan announced he was leaving the group.
The ‘Rather Be’ hitmaker always knew Neil was contemplating a career change, but admits it was so “sad” when he actually announced his departure.
She said: “He’s been thinking about it for a long time. It was a shock that he actually left, so said.”
The pop beauty says Neil left to fulfil other dreams and thinks he may even want to pursue politics and she is unsure if he will even continue being a musician.
She told the Metro newspaper: “I think he wants to explore other things. I’m not sure if it will be musical though. He’s always been interested in politics so I imagine he’ll probably go into something like that.”
Despite his exit, Grace – who is also joined by Jack and Luke Patterson in the pop band – says she wishes him well and can’t wait to see whatever he decides to do in the future.
She said: “I wish him all the best and will be excited to see what he does next.”
Neil features on one last song with the group, ‘Tears’, and so he will not be on the rest of their next album.
Grace explained: “‘Tears’ was the last thing we did together.”
Clean Bandit are gearing up to release their new single featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie called ‘Rockabye’, which has been a “dream” collaboration for Grace.
She said: “It’s been a dream of mine to work with Sean Paul my whole life. I can retire now!”
Announcing his departure on Wednesday (19.10.16), Neil said: “hello everyone, I have decided to leave clean bandit. it was a decision that took me a very long time to reach but it is the right one. so many people have made these last four years quite unbelievable and I am so thankful for it all. meeting (and tweeting) you guys has been really so incredible I have learned so much and seen so many things and it will all stay with me forever. your support for the music and just for me more generally is one of the most insane and amazing things I have ever experienced. Pearl Jam's former drummer makes Hall of Fame plea

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Jam’s former drummer has hit out at the group after he was left off the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 nomination profile.
David Abbruzzese played with the ‘Better Man’ hitmakers from 1991 to 1994 until he was reportedly fired for disagreements with other band members, and has now called on them to “do the right thing”.
He wrote on his Facebook page: “The members of Pearl jam have got to know what’s the right thing to do.
“They can’t justify ignoring my contributions. Like me or not. (sic)”
In another post, he wrote: “If there is still a part of that band that remembers how hard we worked, how much blood and how much sweat… They will do the right thing. (sic)”
The rules have changed for year’s nominations in that only certain individual members of each band will be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
For Eddie Vedder’s group, that means their current drummer Matt Cameron and first stickman Dave Krusen are listed, despite them having five drummers in the past including David.
During his time with the band, Pearl Jam released their second and third studio albums, ‘Vs.’ and ‘Vitalogy’.
As well as David, their former drummers Matt Chamberlin, who David replaced, and Jack Irons were not included in the Hall of Fame nominations profile either.
Other stars who were nominated include Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra and Jane’s Addiction.
Pearl Jam were eligible for a nod as the rules state an artist’s first single must have been released 25 years before they are chosen.

Phil Collins would have quit Genesis to join The Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Collins would have joined The Who if he had been asked.
The 65-year-old star was the drummer and lead singer of Genesis when Keith Moon – the drummer for The Who – died in 1978, and now admits he would have thrown in the towel with his group to take the late stickman’s place.
He said: “Absolutely, [I] would have joined The Who. I would have left Genesis to join The Who. But they’ve got a great drummer now in Zak Starkey, he’s fantastic. Someone with the balls that Keith Moon had.”
The ‘In The Air Tonight’ hitmaker counts the late rocker as one of his drumming idols, because he had “balls and attitude” which he says is key to being a successful stickman.
Speaking in a webchat with The Guardian, he said: “John Bonham I admire. Chad Smith, Taylor Hawkins. And Keith Moon. They’ve all got balls. And attitude. Those two things are essential.”
Phil’s comments come after he left Genesis in 1996 to pursue a solo career.
And his hopes of joining rock legends The Who could well be over, as he recently revealed he can no longer play the drums like he used to because of a “mystery” affliction.
He said previously: “I’ll never play the way I used to. Something happened on the Genesis reunion tour. At the end of each show, I had a drumming duel with Chester Thompson, and one night something happened.
“It just went. I tried everything – bigger drumsticks and so on, but it just never came back.
“It’s a mystery what happened, I just couldn’t get it back. But I’m 65 and I played drums since I was five. I’d like to have the choice about being able to play, but I’m not going to cry myself to sleep about it.”
Earlier this week, the ‘Sussudio’ musician announced he would be returning to the stage for the first time in 10 years with a nine-date European tour – entitled the ‘Not Dead Yet: Live 2017 Tour’ – in June 2017, including a five-night residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit’s violinist Neil Milan has quit the band.
The group’s violinist and vocalist – who is also known as Neil Amin Smith – announced on Wednesday (19.10.16) he has decided to go his separate way and leave the group, which is also comprised of Jack Patterson, Luke Patterson, Grace Chatto, after four years in the band.
The ‘Real Love’ hitmaker announced the news via Twitter with a picture of a message he had penned in the notes app, which sees him thank his fans for their support.
The note read: “hello everyone, I have decided to leave clean bandit. it was a decision that took me a very long time to reach but it is the right one. so many people have made these last four years quite unbelievable and I am so thankful for it all. meeting (and tweeting) you guys has been really so incredible I have learned so much and seen so many things and it will all stay with me forever. your support for the music and just for me more generally is one of the most insane and amazing things I have ever experienced. (sic).”
And Neil captioned the heartfelt post: “hello everyone, I’ve decided to leave clean bandit. Here is a little thing I wrote, thank you for everything (sic).”
Neil has revealed he has kept hold of all the “general pieces of touring” he has collected over the years touring with the group, which he can’t throw away.
He explained: “I have this little box under my bed where I keep things I have collected along the way, things that people have sent to me, polaroids of me and little mix, and general pieces of touring tat that I can’t bring myself to throw away, and it’s all spread out on my bed right now making me smile and also cry a little bit.
“there are a few people I have met along the way who have kept me in health and happiness (sic).
And the band are equally as sad to see Neil go.
In a post on Clean Bandit’s official Facebook page, they wrote: “It is with great sadness that we must announce that our performances of ‘Tears’ over the Summer were Neil’s last shows with Clean Bandit.
“He told us recently that he has decided to leave. We have had a wonderful ride together and we are extremely excited to see what he does next.
“Thank you all for your support during this time, and thank you Neil for being part of this amazing journey.
“We will miss you a lot on this next chapter and we wish you the best of luck for the future. Jack, Grace and Luke (sic).”

Lady Gaga fan girled when she met Beck

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga acted like a “fan girl” when she met Beck to collaborate on their song ‘Dancin’ In Circles’.
The track, which is on Gaga’s forthcoming LP ‘Joanne’, was put together when the record’s producer Mark Ronson bumped into the 46-year-old singer-songwriter and asked him to come into the studio.
The ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker says the ‘Lost Cause’ star is the 30-year-old pop beauty’s “idol” and she couldn’t control herself when they were in the same room.
Ronson, 41, said: “For Gaga, it was like meeting her idol. Beck is pretty much her favourite influential artist of the past 20 years. She was a fan girl at first.”
Ronson and Gaga were late joined later by producer Bloodpop to finish the record – the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Artpop’ – and Ronson has praised the US producer, real name Michael Tucker, for making sure the record didn’t sound “retro”.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, he said: “We could have disappeared into our love for analog authenticity. But he came in and shook it up in a great way. He brought it into the modern era.”
Bloodpop, who has worked with Justin Bieber in the past, clearly had a major influence on the final cut, as Ronson previously said the record was sounding “very analog”.
During the early days, he said: “She [Gaga] is a muso at heart. She’s happiest when she is sat at a piano barking orders and that side of her I don’t think the world has seen it. It is great to make this very honest, authentic analog kind of record.”
‘Joanne’ is released on Friday (21.10.16).

Billie Joe Armstrong's 'unique' bond with his musical sons

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Joe Armstrong loves that he can “speak a different language” with his children who are also musicians.
The Green Day frontman’s sons Jakob Danger, 18, and Joseph Marciano Armstrong, 21, are both aspiring rock stars and because of that the ‘Holiday’ hitmaker says it will allow him to be a musician until he can’t physically make music anymore.
Asked if having his sons get into music has given him a new outlook on his career, he said: “Yeah. I know I’m always going to be a musician, for the rest of my life. That’s for sure. It’s about how you balance between being a musician and being a parent, and making it intertwined. With my family, my sons both love music and play music, and they’re really good at it. In one of the scenes, you can see a little cameo of my son, who’s in the party. You’ve just gotta bring it all back home.”
Of their “unique” bond, he told Collider: “It’s not only exciting to watch, but you can also speak a different language with each other. It’s a music language that’s unique, compared to what other parents do, especially in their professional lives. Not everybody can talk about being an accountant.”
The 44-year-old rocker was speaking in promotion of ‘Ordinary World’, in which he stars as himself, and
said stepping away from music made it feel “fresh” when he returned to the studio for Green Day’s new album ‘Radio Revolution’.
Asked if it is still exciting releasing new music, he said: “Oh, yeah, absolutely! This never gets old, and when it does, I’ll go do a movie. I like the fact that I can get into other projects because everything feels fresh when I come back to music. When I was done with the movie, I felt really compelled to start working on another album. Little did I know, they were going to come out back to back.”

The three artists will join previously-announced superstars Craig David, Laura Mvula and Tinie Tempah at the event, held on November 4 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
Clean Bandit will also rock the awards’ stage for the time as they team up with Best Newcomer nominee Anne-Marie for an energetic set.
Although most of them haven’t graced the MOBO stage before, the ‘When The Bassline Drops’ hitmaker – who is nominated for Best Male and Best Song – is thrilled to be making a return to the awards ceremony after first wowing the show in 2000.
He said: “I first performed at the MOBO Awards 16 years ago and walked away with three awards that night. I’m back with new music and it’s only right that I celebrate this by joining MOBO as they celebrate their 21st birthday.”
Meanwhile, Laura – who last performed at the 2013 MOBOs – will be hoping her performance will be a celebration of a successful night as she’s up for an impressive four awards.
She said: “I’m so thrilled to be back in Glasgow performing on the MOBO Awards stage. The MOBOs are one of the few music events that have really championed and supported urban music from Gospel to Grime, so it’s an honour to be taking part once again.”

Laura and Kano lead the nominations with four each, with Skepta narrowly behind with three nods.

Tom Chaplin wants Calvin Harris collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Chaplin wants to collaborate with Calvin Harris because his voice is so much “better” since he stopped taking drugs.
The Keane singer recently released his solo album ‘The Wave’ and says ever since he gave up alcohol, smoking and taking substances in 2014, he’s reaped the benefits and is able to sing higher notes he’s never been able to before.
He said: “My voice has been given two years freedom from abuse and it’s so much easier to get it going.
“Obviously a healthy body and healthy voice have allowed me to push that range and it’s surprised me. The lower part I’d never expressed in Keane and there’s some very, very big high moments.
“Now not drinking, taking drugs and stopping smoking, all of those things contribute to my voice in a good way.”
The 37-year-old singer’s new confidence has made him “open” to working with other artists and the Scottish DJ is at the top of his list.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “Now I’m open to working with other people, why not something like Calvin Harris.”
Tom has also said he has a lot more energy now and has admitted that he would lie to his family and sneak about when he was under the influence, which he found “exhausting”.
He said: “I was doing all manner of things that were destructive.
“The biggest change is my energy levels – I was diverting all my resources to lying, sneaking about and that’s an incredibly exhausting process.”
Tom previously said making his solo album prevented him from losing his wife Natalie and their two-year-old daughter Freya following years of alcohol abuse.
Now, he no longer has the urge to take drugs and hit the bottle because creating his debut solo LP allowed him to address unresolved issues he had when he was younger.
He previously said: “I can never drink or take drugs again and I accept that.
“But the main result of making this record is that I no longer want to. In the past I’ve kept things in and never wanted to address issues I’ve had since I was a teenager.
“But coming close to losing my wife, my daughter and my career I’ve looked at stuff and resolved issues that I hadn’t for years.”

Justin Bieber blasts 'obnoxious' fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber blasted his own fans as “obnoxious” for screaming at his concert.
The ‘Never Say Never’ hitmaker interrupted his show at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, West Midlands, during his ‘Purpose World Tour’ on Monday night (17.10.16) to ask his supporters to stop “screaming at the top of your lungs”.
He was recorded telling fans: “Just try to show me you love me, in a different way. I get it.
“The screaming is just so obnoxious.
“I get it, it’s been in our blood and it’s been grand, you go to a concert and scream and stuff.
“But if we could just … scream after the song, enjoy the songs … the screaming is awesome, it’s fine, and then we take a chill pill for a second and we just listen to me speak.
“Because … I don’t feel like I’m being heard sometimes and it’s getting a little pressuring.
“So if when I’m speaking you guys could not scream at the top of your lungs. Is that cool with you guys?”
During the recording one woman can be heard shouting “no”, but Justin continued, admitting he finds it “tough” on tour sometimes being away from his pals.
He added: “Like I was saying, I’ve been on tour for a while now. I’m away from my friends so it can be tough sometimes.
“I have all you beautiful people to keep me company.”
But Justin’s request didn’t go down well with everyone, and one fan, Amanda Boland, 26, who travelled from Manchester for the show and recorded him making the comments, blasted him as “disrespectful”.
She told the Birmingham Mail newspaper: “I really felt as though Justin was disrespectful to his fans.
“Not so much us, more so the young girls who queued for a long time to be at the front.
“We recorded the fans screaming because we didn’t think we’d heard anything quite as loud at a concert before … and what we ended up recording, to our surprise, was Bieber complaining because his fans were ‘like two feet away’, and they just ‘needed to find another way to express themselves!'”

Kanye West extends tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West has extended his ‘Saint Pablo Tour’.
The 39-year-old rapper has added 21 further dates which will see the star play to the masses right the way up to New Year’s Eve (31.12.16) ahead of the first leg of his run of shows wrapping at the end of this month.
The new dates start in San Jose, California, on November 17, and will run up until a two-day stint in Brooklyn, New York, on December 30 and 31.

The announcement comes after Kanye’s ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1’ single shot to the top spot of Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, marking his 12th number one on the chart.
Tickets for the shows will be available for American Express card holders on Wednesday (19.10.16) through to Friday (20.10.16), before going to general sale on Saturday (22.10.16).

Tupac Shakur leads Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 nominees

OHMYGOSSIP — Tupac Shakur, Pearl Jam and Janet Jackson are nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
It is the first year the American hip-hop icon, who was killed in Las Vegas, Nevada in September 1996, and Eddie Vedder’s rock band have been eligible to be nominated as the rules state an artist’s first single must have been released 25 years before they are chosen.
It’s also the first time for Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane’s Addiction, Joan Baez, Journey and Steppenwolf to make an appearance.
It’s Chic’s 11th time being nominated, Kraftwerk’s fifth and progressive rock group Yes’ third.
This year the rules have changed slightly in that only certain individual members of each band will be inducted.
For Pearl Jam that means their drummer Matt Cameron
and founding member Dave Krusen would make it into the Hall of Fame despite them having five drummers in the past.
Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Bev Bevan and Richard Tandy will be put through should they win.
Yes’ original singer Jon Anderson, both sticksmen Bill Bruford and Alan White, keyboard players Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin [guitars] and the late bassist Chris Squire have been nominated.
The complete original lineup for Journey and for Depeche Mode, the electronic band’s former keyboard player Vince Clarke is listed with the rest of the rock band despite leaving the group shortly after the release of their first LP, ‘Speak & Spell’, in 1981.
Members of the public will once again be able to vote for their favourite rock acts to be inducted along with 800 music professionals who are tasked with narrowing down the list.
The final five inductees are to be announced at the end of December, followed by a ceremony at the Barclay’s Center in New York in April 2017.
2016 saw N.W.A, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, Chicago and Steve Miller inducted.
