Jimmy Carr pens duet for Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Carr has written a song for Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams ahead of their reunion.
The 44-year-old comedian has teamed up the ‘Candy’ hitmaker’s songwriter Guy Chambers – who has also worked with Kylie on her solo tracks – to pen ‘Disco Symphony’ for the pair.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s true, Jimmy co-wrote ‘Disco Symphony’ with Robbie and Guy. As a huge music fan it was a bit of a dream come true for him and great fun. He contributed to the lyrics, and Robbie was really chuffed with the result. The song isn’t part of Rob’s current album campaign but he plans to get it out at some point soon.”
Other details on the collaboration are being kept tightly under wraps for the time being but the 42-year-old hunk recently teased, although the song with Kylie won’t feature on his upcoming album ‘Heavy Entertainment Show’, it will more than likely drop in 2017 at some point.
He said: “Me and Kylie have gotten together to do a song called ‘Disco Symphony’. It’s a big disco extravaganza. It’s not on this album that is coming out in the next few months.
“But I have a cunning plan and that song is placed in my back pocket ready to be deployed at the right time […] It’s a cracker and I get to sing with Kylie Minogue again.”
This isn’t the first time Robbie has joined forces with the 48-year-old pop star as they last collaborated 16 years ago when they released their classic hit ‘Kids’, which landed in the Top 10 charts around the globe, in 2000.

Ne-Yo wants Rihanna reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Ne-Yo thinks a follow-up to his ‘I Hate That I Love You’ duet with Rihanna is “overdue”.
The 37-year-old singer and the R&B superstar teamed up on the smash hit almost a decade ago in 2007, and while they haven’t been in touch, the ‘So Sick’ hitmaker would love to get into the studio with the Bajan beauty, 28.
He said: “We’ve been moving opposite directions – not with animosity or anything like that.
“The chemistry between me and Rihanna is on record. I feel like we’re overdue.”
Meanwhile, Ne-Yo – whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith – would love to record a song with Adele.
He told the Metro newspaper: “I’ve always felt if me and Adele could get in a studio we would create some magic.
“So Adele if you’re listening, give me a call.”
Ne-Yo previously admitted he prefers British acts because they are more focused on the “artistry” of the music, as opposed to stories surrounding their personal lives.
He explained: “It seems like over there the focus is on the music and the artistry.
“Whereas [in America] we kind of get caught up more a little bit in the controversy, the scandal, the back story, the imaging and all of that.”
However, he said he is going to continue working with Pitbull – with whom he created the hits ‘Give Me Everything’ and ‘Time of Our Lives’ – because “it just works”.
At the time he said: “It’s me and Pit’s second time working together and definitely not our last.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s our appreciation for suits but for whatever reason it just works.”

Charlie Puth axes tour due to illness

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Puth has cancelled the remaining dates on his ‘Don’t Talk’ tour.
The 24-year-old singer has pulled out of shows in Nashville, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles because he is “extremely sick” and needs to rest.
He tweeted: “Unfortunately I have to cancel the remaining dates on my ‘Don’t Talk’ tour. This is the last thing I want to do because I love being on the road performing and meeting every one of you. You are the reason I can do what I love most for a living and I am so thankful.
“I have been extremely sick pushing through these dates and haven’t taken the time my body needs to recover. Resting and taking time off the road is the only way I can get better and start performing for you again.
“I promise I will do whatever I can to make it up to you. I love you so much. I’m deeply sorry. Charlie.”
Earlier this month, Charlie tweeted a picture of himself sick in bed after he had to pull out of a show because he had the flu and had lost his voice.
Meanwhile, the star admitted he used to “cringe” if he hit a flat note while performing but no longer worries about sounding perfect live as his “energy” can carry him through.
He said: “It’s something I’ve been trying to tackle over this past year. … When I first started rehearsing for my first tour last year, I would get discouraged – ‘Why were my vocals not 100 per cent pitch perfect?’
“It’s totally normal, but it bothered me. I used to cringe on stage when I would hit a flat note, but I’ve learned that doing things live is a lot more forgiving than doing things in the studio.
“It’s all about the energy live, and that can make up for the imperfections that might not be on the records.”

Drake to release new music in December

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake will release new music in December.
The 30-year-old rapper previewed three new songs on his Apple Music OVO Sound radio show on Sunday (23.10.16), stating they will all appear on his new project ‘More Life’, set for release in December.
Speaking on the show, the ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker described the project as a “playlist” of original songs from both himself, and the collaborators from his OVO label.
He said: “I’m off mixtapes, you know? I wanna do a playlist, I wanna give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life. So this is more like the playlist. Like I said, dropping in December, all original music from me, but you may hear some tunes from the family on there.”
The ‘One Dance’ rapper then previewed the tracks – named ‘Two Birds One Stone’, ‘Fake Love’, and ‘Sneakin’ – alongside a remix to rapper Dave’s ‘Wanna Know’.
Speaking about the tracks, he said: “I just wanna celebrate life. ‘More Life’, that’s what we live by. That’s something that we don’t take for granted. So today, like I said you’re getting some new music. I’m not going to tell you how many songs it is, I’m just going to let you hear it. I know most people think I’m dropping like one song, but you know me, I like to make all the listeners and all the fans happy.”
And the rapper – who has just wrapped his ‘Summer Sixteen Tour’ in North America after having to postpone the last three dates due to an ankle injury – admitted he isn’t ready to take a break just yet.
He said: “I’m just really excited. I had a great tour, I had a great summer, and most people I guess would probably go and take a break but for me I just wanted to get right back to it.”
Drake also took to Instagram to share the artwork for the new project.
The caption read: “More Life new project dropping in DECEMBER (sic)”

Leonard Cohen needed convincing to make new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Leonard Cohen needed to be convinced by his son to make a new album.
The 82-year-old singer-songwriter has revealed that his son Adam – who produced the record – played a key role in encouraging his dad to make ‘You Want It Darker’.
Adam explained: “To you, there’s the man and there’s the writer. But I only knew one thing. There weren’t two doors – through door A is my father, through door B Leonard Cohen the writer. There was only one door. A package deal.
“I’ve only known the guy who was always writing, who was always up before us. I’d come and find him in his underwear, strumming a guitar.”
Leonard is notably coy about the meaning of his songs, but Adam has revealed just how much effort and thought his father puts into his work.
He told the Sunday Times newspaper: “I heard ‘Hallelujah’ before it was a song. I heard many of them, in various permutations. He’s sweating over every syllable.
“These songs are the end result of a lifetime pursuit of the exactitude of language. And they communicate frightening and personal truths.”
However, Leonard has always been baffled by the supposed sense of mystery that has always surrounded him.
He shared: “I never got wise to that fictional character. And nothing in this racket makes any sense to me, to tell you the truth.
“Everybody has a kind of magical system they employ in the hope that this will open up the channels. My mind was always very cluttered, so I took great pains to simplify my environment, because if my environment were half as cluttered as my mind, I wouldn’t be able to make it from room to room.”

Leonard Cohen: I'm not ready to die

OHMYGOSSIP — Leonard Cohen intends to “live for ever”.
The iconic singer-songwriter has previously said he felt ready to die, suggesting he was content with his life and all that he has achieved – but the 82-year-old star has now performed U-turn on that statement, admitting he was wrong.
He shared: “I said I was ready to die. I think I was exaggerating. One is given to self-dramatisation from time to time. I intend to live for ever.”
Leonard recently worked with producer and songwriter Patrick Leonard, who co-wrote many of Madonna’s biggest hits at the height of her career success, on his new album ‘You Want It Darker’.
However, Leonard has remained tight-lipped about the meaning behind his new work.
He told the Sunday Times newspaper: “Look, people wanted to intellectualise Madonna records, too. I mean, hello? If they even knew. But people will always try. You know, ‘This is about this.’ Hmm… Kind of. Look, it’s song by song, until you can go, ‘Thank God we got a body of work together.’
“If artists can’t figure it out, why do we think we can? You give up everything you have to be good at it. It’s a daily grind in search of the lost chord. Forever. There’s no end, and you never win. And you make the choice knowing those are the rules.”
Leonard is, however, happy to admit that he doesn’t draw any great inspiration from religious beliefs, as many other songwriters do.
He explained: “I’ve never thought of myself as a religious person. I don’t have any spiritual strategy, I kind of limp along, like so many of us do in these realms.”

Craig David lives in hotel

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig David lives in an airport hotel.
The ‘7 Days’ hitmaker checked into the Sofitel London Heathrow last September for a short-term stay away from his Miami home while promoting his comeback, but has repeatedly extended his visit after experiencing a career resurgence and insists his room at the establishment – which costs from around £135 to £1400 a night and is located next to the airport’s terminal five – is the “perfect” place to record new music.
He said: “The thing is, as big a house as you could buy, it’s perfect in there, it’s got a bathroom, I’ve got my bedroom, I’ve got my little set-up with my studio and I’m getting as much done as I would if I was in some huge place with square footage and gardens.”
The 35-year-old star enjoys meeting his fans and is happy to mingle with them before and after his gigs.
He told GQ magazine: “I went out to experience what Glastonbury is like because I didn’t want to just be in the backstage.
“So I’m out there with my boots on, going through, doing my thing, and some people recognised me.
“There came a point where I had to go back because it was getting a bit of top because there were so many people and it started a ripple effect.
“I’ll stay as long as I possibly can because generally I can’t get enough of it, man.
“It’s the first opportunity his time around that I can respond to people.”

Johnny Marr felt like Yoko Ono

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Marr has compared himself to Yoko Ono.
The legendary guitarist thinks John Lennon’s widow – who was widely blamed for splitting up The Beatles – is the only person to have reached the level of hatred over the end of a band as he did when he left The Smiths in 1987.
He said: “Without getting too melodramatic about it, I don’t think anyone has ever had such a hard time for such a long time about the end of a band as I have, besides Yoko Ono.
“And I was only 23. I felt like I had to keep explaining myself for years and years.”
But Johnny insists his departure from the band was “inevitable” as he couldn’t see a future with the group.
He said: “I can only say I had no choice.
“It had been building up for a long time so it wasn’t impulsive. It was a f***ing drag.
“It was messy and it was horrible but I knew I didn’t have a choice for a while before I left.
“I think as humans we hang on to avoid pain. We do it in relationships. It’s understandable.
“But events have a way of conspiring to make things happen when things aren’t right.
“It’s very sad but entirely inevitable.
“I formed The Smiths and it was my band and it broke up and it was absolutely devastating that it couldn’t continue but I couldn’t see a future in it.”
And Johnny had no idea what the future held for him when he quit the iconic band, admitting he even considered having to sign on the dole again.
He told Q magazine: “I had absolutely no plan at all.
“I knew I was going to be a guitar player but it wasn’t completely out of the realms of my concern that I was going to go back on the dole.
“Even though I’d had all this history and become a known person, I wasn’t going to walk around with all my great reviews in my pocket.
“I was back to where I was when I started out, crossing my fingers and hoping I’d meet some good people.”

Bon Jovi album inspired by Sambora

OHMYGOSSIP — Richie Sambora inspired Bon Jovi’s new album.
Frontman Jon Bon Jovi admitted the band went through tough times following the abrupt departure of guitarist Richie in 2013 and the group’s move from Mercury to Island Records but says all of the turmoil influenced their latest record ‘This House Is Not For Sale’.
Jon told Fox 5: “We’ve been through holy hell. I had a couple of songs … in the turmoil. They are really more about the turbulence in the record label, Richie leaving … other things outside that were forces.”
Jon, 54, previously insisted that Richie’s departure came completely out of the blue and there was no conversation between the bandmates before he left.
He said: “Everyone says, ‘Well, what happened?’ We were in Calgary. The last album was entering the charts at number one. We’re sold out every single night. It’s show 21 and the short of it is, Richie just didn’t show up at the show.
“And we haven’t seen him in person since. There was no fight. There was no money. There was nothing I swear in my whole career, and he’ll tell you the same thing. So we went on.”
Richie, 57, now has a new band RSO with his girlfriend Orianthi and he still plays Bon Jovi songs.
He said: “I wrote them, they’re my songs too. I get to play them, I get to do them the way Ori and I do them now. It’s a different incarnation but when you write a good song, if you’re fortunate enough to write something that gets to a global audience you really can’t mess it up too bad. You can’t mess ‘Livin’On A Prayer,’ ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ or ‘I’ll Be There For You’ up.”

New Kesha music to be released 'soon'

OHMYGOSSIP — New music from Kesha will be released “soon”.
The 29-year-old’s career stalled when she was locked in a court battle with her label Sony and producer Dr. Luke, after claiming he sexually assaulted her, but Kesha has been working on new music and Sony says it should be released soon.
The company told Buzzfeed in a statement: “Creating a new album takes time, and everyone’s goal is to deliver a high quality album consistent with Kesha’s past releases. We hope to share exciting new music with Kesha’s fans soon.”
However, Kesha’s attorney Daniel Petrocelli was less optimistic.
He said: “Kesha has been trying for six months to record and release new music. Only in the last month, after our last court hearing, has any progress been made, but it is hardly enough. Kesha still has received no commitments on promotion, songs, or even a release date.
“We hope things turn around fast. Meanwhile, Kesha intends to continue participating in the creative process in the hopes she can meaningfully return to work.”
Kesha originally filed legal documents seeking to have her contract with the producer dissolved after accusing him of sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abusing her for almost a decade.
In response to her lawsuit, which was filed in October 2014, Luke filed a counter-suit against the ‘Die Young’ singer, accusing her of defamation.
Kesha is contractually bound to make three more albums with Dr. Luke and his Kemosabe Records label, which is owned by Sony.

Metallica find band life harder now

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica find it “harder” to be in a band now than when they started out.
The ‘Enter Sandman’ hitmakers formed in 1981 and drummer Lars Ulrich found it easier to be part of a “collective” when he was younger as he and his bandmates shared the same values.
He explained: “It’s harder to be part of a collective when you’re older.
“When you’re 22, you all wear the same clothes, drink the same beer, do the same crazy things.
“Then, all of a sudden, you’re in your 30s and 40s and everything has changed.”
Lars’ bandmate James Hetfield admits the group have a love/hate relationship but will always regard one another as “brothers”.
He said: “Those guys know my story and I know their story.
“We love each other and we hate each other. But we’re brothers.”
Though frontman James admits some Metallica fans don’t want the band to get old, he insists they are “embracing” ageing.
He told Q magazine: “They want to keep you in a glass case. But we’re embracing age, letting the hair go grey, keeping mind and spirit together.”
The 53-year-old rocker is bemused why it has taken Metallica eight years to record and release new album ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’ because he loves “connecting” with people through his music.
He said: “I felt like a loner my whole life so connecting with people is what I want to do.
“This is great – playing people some new Metallica music. Why do we torture ourselves about this stuff? Why did we take eight years?”
And James is happy to show his “vulnerable” side in his music – because it is “free therapy”.
He said: “I’m not afraid to let that vulnerable side be looked at. As an artist, it’s a great way to get free therapy.”

Katy Perry working with Taylor Swift producers

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry is working with Taylor Swift producers Max Martin and Shellback on her new album.
The ‘Roar’ hitmaker and ‘Shake It Off’ singer may be bitter rivals, but that hasn’t stopped the 31-year-old pop beauty working with the masterminds behind Taylor’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ for her follow-up to 2013’s ‘Prism’.
Taking to Twitter, Katy – who has worked with Max since her debut LP ‘One Of The Boys’ – wrote: “Ok back to the studio for me. 2017 is gonna tight af …MAKE LYRICS GREAT AGAIN ! cc Max Martin & Shellback (sic)”
Katy – who is dating actor Orlando Bloom – recently admitted she was working on a fifth album but is “not rushing” the record.
She said: “I’m just having a lot of fun, but experimenting and trying different producers, and different collaborators, and different styles.”
Earlier this month, Katy admitted in a Twitter Q&A that she would be prepared to end her feud with Taylor, 26, if the ‘Blank Space’ star apologises to her.
When asked if she would work with the blonde stunner, Katy replied: “If she says sorry, sure!”
The pair have had an ongoing feud ever since the 26-year-old star claimed the ‘Unconditionally’ singer nicked three of her backing dancers from her ‘RED Tour’ in 2012.
And Katy recently teased that she plans on going on tour in 2017.
She said she will play at least one concert in 2017 after revealing such plans when responding to a Twitter troll who hit out at her career and standalone track ‘Rise’, claiming it was a “flop”.
In a Q&A with fans, one tweeter wrote to Katy: “Rise flopped and your career is over.”
The raven-haired beauty responded: “See you at my show 2K17.”

Lady Gaga almost quit music after Artpop

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga contemplated quitting the music industry after the release of 2013’s ‘Artpop’.
The 30-year-old pop superstar has admitted she lost all faith in her talent and almost decided to stop releasing music all together to just perform music for own pleasure.
She admitted: “I was just having a really depressed time in my life where wasn’t able to see my own ability or my own talent.
“And when you lose grasp of those sorts of things, you can just spiral.
“But you know, to the world ‘quitting music’ means one thing and to me its means another. I meant to giving putting out music, as opposed to just doing it for myself, which what makes me really and truly happy.”
However, the ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker clearly had second thoughts as three years later, she has just dropped her new record ‘Joanne’.
Meanwhile, Gaga – who recently admitted she finds fame “alienating” – is not a fan of how “business” focused the industry is nowadays and admits she finds it a “nightmare” because she just wants to make music and not worry about how many times her songs have been streamed.
She told the latest issue of NME magazine: “When you become famous or you become a star, there’s all these other things that begin to happen, and you have to work the system – especially in the music industry today, which is so different.
“You are dealing with this streaming war and it’s an absolute nightmare to witness as an artist because it’s not about music it’s all about business – and that’s just not who I am at all.”
Gaga has teamed up with an array of artists for her latest record, and producer Mark Ronson has taken to Twitter to thank all involved including Florence Welch, Beck, Father John Misty, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Eagles of Death Metal’s Josh Homme, RedOne and BloodPop.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Can’t express my gratitude in 140 for all the wonderful people who came 2gether 2 make Lady Gaga’s Joanne. It’s out! (sic)”
‘Joanne’ is out now.

The Stone Roses and Daft Punk aren't headlining Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Eavis has confirmed The Stone Roses and Daft Punk are not headlining Glastonbury Festival next year.
The event’s organiser has shot down rumours that the legendary Manchester group and ‘Get Lucky’ hitmakers are to join ‘Creep’ rockers Radiohead as the other two headliners on the music extravaganza’s Pyramid Stage in June 2017.
She said: “There’s not more [headliner] announcements now for a while, but I will tell you the other two that have been rumoured aren’t happening.
“There was a news story that said Daft Punk and Stone Roses. That’s not true. I don’t know where that came from.”
However, she has said that they have pretty much completed the list of performers across all stages for the festival held on Worthy Farm in Somerset, south west England.
She told the latest issue of NME magazine: “It always seems to get earlier and earlier, but I think because we’re having a year off in 2018, we’re cramming two years of music into next year. We’re quite far down the line. It’s looking so good. We’re certainly all there with our headliners across all stages.”
Emily – who runs the festival with her dad Michael Eavis – previously vowed to make the line-up ‘strong on women’.
She said: “To be fair there’s always been a lack of balance in the music industry when it comes to opportunities for female performers, but it’s slowly changing and hopefully we’re doing our bit to support the new female artists coming through.”
Radiohead are the only confirmed act who will perform on Friday June 23.

Olly Murs banned from Manchester events

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs has been banned from performing at any official events in Manchester.
The ‘Dear Darlin’ hitmaker pulled out of the city’s Olympic and Paralympic parade show on Monday (17.10.16) after organisers attempted to alter his set at the last minute, but his decision to axe his gig hasn’t gone down well with councillor Pat Karney and he’s now told him he’s not allowed to play any future shows in the borough in northwest England.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Olly said: “This guy that has been talking about it on the radio, he is a Manchester councillor. This guy is the only person who has come out and said anything. The organisers haven’t said anything. He is making a name for himself. If you want to come and speak to me, mate, then let’s have a chat about it. I would never mouth off about someone unless I know the facts. And he doesn’t know the facts. He is entitled to his opinion but he should find out the details first.”
The 32-year-old hunk came under fire for cancelling his performing at the parade show and, instead, going to Manchester United’s match against Liverpool but he insists it wasn’t his decision to walk away and his management encouraged him to pull out.
He explained: “People were saying I went to the Liverpool game and couldn’t be bothered to go to the gig. That’s where I drew the line. I was like, ‘Hang on a minute, that is really starting to p*** me off now’. I was going to the gig and I actually said, ‘Obviously, if the Olympics runs over, we can’t go to the football’.But on the day my management and my team were having issues behind the scenes with different things. It just wasn’t organised. I never pull out of gigs. Ever. It’s not my style. But I trust my management. So when they ring me up saying, ‘Olly, we are pulling you from this gig. We don’t want you to do it. It’s all a bit of a shambles’, I just said, ‘Well if that’s your decision then I trust you.’ ”

Jay Z is nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Z has been nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame next year.
The 46-year-old rapper is among 24 other artists in the running to be credited for his success in the music industry in the 2017 cycle of nominations, which would make the ‘Run This Town’ hitmaker the first ever rapper to be selected for the honour.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame is awarded to artists who have boasted a successful career at the helm of the music industry spanning over 20 years.
And according to USA Today, Jay Z – whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter – will go head to head with the ‘Like a Virgin’ hitmaker Madonna, Bryan Adams, George Michael, Cat Stevens and Gloria Estefan.
The late musician Sylvester ‘Sly Stone’ Stewart, who died last year, is also in the running to receive a posthumous accolade for his work with Barry McGuire, Johnny Rivers, as well as other recognised artists.
Jay Z, who unveiled his debut album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ in 1996, has since had a number of hit records including his LP ‘The Blueprint’ and ‘The Black Album’, which were recognised as the greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stones magazine.
The New York-born star – who was crowned the Greatest MC of All Time in 2006 by MTV – has also made a large contribution to the recording industry with the launch of the entertainment company Roc Nation, which was founded in 2008 and has seen the likes of T.I, J Cole and Rihanna sign to the label.
Jay Z – who has four-year-old daughter Blue Ivy with his wife Beyoncé – follows in the footsteps of music legends Stevie Wonder, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Dolly Parton and Keith Richards who have previously been honoured.
And it has been reported voting ends on December 16 and will see five single songwriters or groups inducted six months later, on June 15 next year, at the gala, which will take place in New York.
