Jimmy Page amazed by Stairway to Heaven reaction

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Page finds it “incredible” people still hold ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in such high regard.
The 72-year-old guitarist is amazed that the song – which the group were recently wrongly accused of plagiarising – still receives accolades from today’s listening public after his guitar solo in the song was praised once again.
Speaking about his solo in the hit song being named the Greatest Guitar Solo ever in a recent Classic Rock magazine poll, he said: “It’s a real thrill that ‘Stairway’ has been voted and nominated here.
“It really honestly is. It’s incredible that the listening public still hold something that came out in 1971 in such great affection, because you do hope that your music is going to last.”
Despite the hit song winning a recent accolade, Jimmy admitted the solo is not his finest piece of guitar work.
When asked if the ‘Stairway To Heaven’ solo is his favourite of all time, he added to Classic Rock magazine: “No, but it’s pretty damn good. If everyone else says it’s my best solo then that’s great, that’s good, but there are others that I prefer. I’m not going to name them. I’m not going to argue with the public.”
This comes after Led Zeppelin – comprised of Jimmy, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and the late John Bonham – were accused of lifting the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ intro from Spirit’s ‘Taurus’.
But a jury found that while Led Zeppelin did have access to ‘Taurus’, it was decided the songs are not substantially similar.
Jimmy denied allegations that he and Robert penned the classic rock song after hearing ‘Taurus’.
He said in court: “Something like that would stick in my mind. It was totally alien to me.”

Tinie Tempah dressed up as Batman for Capital FM's Monster Mashup

OHMYGOSSIP — Tinie Tempah dressed up as Batman for Capital FM’s Monster Mashup event in London on Friday (28.10.16) night.
The 27-year-old rapper was clearly keen to get into the spirit of Halloween during his energetic set at the Hammersmith Apollo tonight as he bounced onto the stage in a black jumpsuit, a plastic cape and a spooky mask ahead of his performance.
Despite his uncanny resemblance to the fictional superhero, the hunk – whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu – urged his fans not be scared of his temporary appearance.
As he paraded around the stage, he said: “Don’t be startled, it is actually me. I’m not trying to have a day off.”
Tinie kicked off his set with his hits ‘Earthquake’ and ‘Pass out’ before he treated fans to his new single ‘Light Work’.
However, keen to show off his skills, he interrupted the performance mid-way through to sing Jess Glynne’s ‘Not Letting Go’ followed by his track with Wiz Khalifa ‘Mamacita’.
Although he’d already packed his set full of surprises, Tinie couldn’t resist bringing out a special guest for ‘Girls Like’.
Zara Larsson – who already performed her own 10 minute set earlier on in the evening – emerged from the wings as they belted out the lyrics to their catchy summer anthem.
Tinie drew his performance to a close with fan favourites ‘Drinking From the Bottle’, ‘Miami to Ibiza’, ‘Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)’, before wrapping up with ‘Tsunami’.
The rapper wasn’t the only act to get the audience going tonight as Clean Bandit had fans jumping up in the air during their performance of ‘Stronger’, ‘Real Love’, ‘Rather Be’ and their new song ‘Rockabye’ featuring Anne Marie and Sean Paul.
They too had a special guest tucked up their sleeves and invited ‘X Factor’ winner Louisa Johnson to perform ‘Tears’, followed by her newly-released debut single ‘So Good’.
She said: “This song is my favourite ever single it’s called ‘So Good’ and it’s out today. It’s really exciting to me.”
Meanwhile, Tinie wasn’t the only performer to slip into a costume for the Halloween-inspired event, as Blonde dropped jaws when they took to the stage dressed as ‘Star Trek’.
The duo’s 30-minute set included ‘You’ve Got To Show Me Love’, ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Nothing Like This’.
Other acts to take to the stage included Culture Code and Sigala.

Neil Milan told Clean Bandit he was leaving via email

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit’s Neil Milan told his bandmates he was leaving the group via email.
The ‘Rather Be’ hitmakers’ saxophonist Jack Patterson has revealed they were in “shock” when Jack announced his departure in an electronic message rather than in person.
Speaking at the KISS Haunted House Party, he said: “It was a surprise. It was a shock. When we actually got the email it was a real shock.”
And while Jack and the rest of the group – Grace Chatto and Luke Patterson – are sad he decided to leave, they have already replaced him with two temporary violinists and are currently trialling having two people playing the wooden string instrument.
He added: “But we’ve got two amazing violinists here tonight. When we started it was a seven-piece band and since then we’ve had so many different people involved.
“It’s ever changing, so I think it’s going to be exciting having more than one violinist now, which is what we’re experimenting with.”
Jack says it has been a “tough” thing to come to terms with, however, they accept that Neil is “a lot happier” now.
He said: “It’s sad. It’s been a tough time but I think we’ve all come together to make it work and put in a lot of effort and I think he’s a lot happier now as well. now that he’s left and only good things will come from it.”
Neil – who was previously romantically linked to Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander – announced the news to his fans via Twitter.
He wrote: “hello everyone, I have decided to leave clean bandit. it was a decision that took me a very long time to reach but it is the right one. so many people have made these last four years quite unbelievable and I am so thankful for it all. meeting (and tweeting) you guys has been really so incredible I have learned so much and seen so many things and it will all stay with me forever. your support for the music and just for me more generally is one of the most insane and amazing things I have ever experienced. Una Healy announces debut solo LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Una Healy is to release her debut solo album ‘The Waiting Game’ in February.
The Saturdays star is thrilled to finally be able to announce her first new music since the girl group’s 2013 LP ‘Living for the Weekend’, which sees the blonde beauty return to her country folk rock music roots.
She said: “Over the past two years I’ve been writing and recording my debut solo album and I’m so excited to finally share it with everyone. I have literally been playing the waiting game! The songs were all written from the heart and I hope people can relate to them. The sound of the album is very true to my roots and is a return to the music I’ve always loved.”
Una has worked with a variety of acclaimed songwriters and producers for the record including Amy Wadge, who co-wrote Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’, and Ben Earle from The Shires.
The lead single will be ‘Stay My Love’, which is a collaboration with Sam Palladio from US reality TV series ‘Nashville’, and was co-written by Wadge.
The record drops on February 10 and the single will come out sometime before.
Una has been busy working on her own music since The Saturdays announced they were going on hiatus in March 2015.
Previously describing the record, Una said: “My solo sound will definitely be more organic than The Saturdays … It’s more singer songwriter, me with a guitar singing and writing about my experiences.”
Una is not the only member of the girl group launching a solo career.
Mollie King is to release a solo album, while Vanessa White has already released her solo EP ‘Chapter One’ and plans to bring out a full album later this year.
So far, Rochelle Humes and Frankie Bridge have been concentrating on projects away from music.

Ryan Adams sorely 'misses' Oasis

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Adams sorely “misses” Oasis.
The 41-year-old rocker – who famously covered the Britpop legends’ smash hit ‘Wonderwall’ – has slammed the current generation of musicians and says all that is left are “a bunch of cargo dad pants bands” with “bull**** lyrics” that lack the “danger” that Oasis – including bitter rivals and brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher – were famous for.
In a rant of Instagram, he wrote: “I miss this band. They f***ing mattered. Sigh it’s now a world full of a bunch of cargo dad pants bands with soulless, bull**** lyrics and about the level of danger you might feel if you mixed hot fries with ginger ale. F*** that (sic).”
The ‘Lucky Now’ hitmaker also pleaded with his Twitter followers to go and see Oasis’ new documentary ‘Supersonic’, which sees Noel and Liam Gallagher revisit the band’s beginnings in Manchester and journey to their mammoth open-air concerts at Knebworth in 1996 which were attended by 250,000 fans, because of the lack of quality rock ‘n’ roll bands around.
He wrote: “Go see the @oasis movie if you need something to remind you what the fuck rocknroll means.
Or why trouble matters.
Or what fun is (sic)”
Ryan continued to bash the “boring” musicians of today whilst hailing Oasis “roughhouse giants”.
He added: “How boring has music become since these roughhouse giants came crawling from nowhere places with their guitars Their souls afire… Sigh (sic)”
The ‘Oh My Sweet Carolina’ singer’s thoughts echo those of Liam Gallagher, who recently announced his solo comeback.
The ‘Some Might Say’ hitmaker – who has had a break from music since the dissolution of Beady Eye in 2014 – thinks his presence has been missed in the music world because he is so much better than his peers.
He previously said: “It’s f***ing s**t. It’s boring without me, isn’t it? On my game I will roast anyone. Anyone. Whether it’s interviews, photoshoots, on record or on that f**king stage. And there are a lot of people getting away with murder on that stage from my generation.”

James Arthur: I changed The X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur thinks he has changed the face of ‘The X Factor’.
The 28-year-old singer rose to fame after winning the ninth series of the ITV talent show in 2012 and feels he is due credit from the show and Simon Cowell’s label Syco for showing that it is possible to be successful by going it alone.
He said: “I’ve changed the game.
“I wanted that, coming back to ‘X Factor’ and Syco; maybe they’ll recognise what I did in terms of how contestants approach the process of being on ‘The X Factor’ now. You can do things your own way.”
The ‘Recovery’ hitmaker was subject to controversy in 2013 after he found himself in a Twitter feud with Micky Worthless which saw him use derogatory homophobic language toward the rapper, and ultimately got him kicked from his spot with label Syco.
However, James rejoined the 57-year-old music mogul’s label because he would have been a “fool” not to as they are notorious for giving singers the boot.
Asked why he came back, James told the Daily Star newspaper: “Because I’m a sucker for the story. I mean, what a compliment. They notoriously let people go, so to ask me back, I would’ve been a fool to say no. It’s a bit of a fairy tale, a 360, full-circle thing.”
Meanwhile, the hunky star has been offering his support to 2015 ‘X Factor’ winner Louisa Johnson.
He said: “I spoke to Louisa Johnson recently I reiterated my mantra, which is to stay in the present.
“I could help when they get stressed out with it all.”
James released his brand new album ‘Back from the Edge’ today (28.10.16).

OHMYGOSSIP — The name of John Mayer’s new record has been revealed.
Steve Jordan, drummer for the John Mayer Trio, accidentally let slip that John has decided to call his new album ‘The Search for Everything’, and John revealed the first single will be on the way very soon.
Speaking at the 15th Annual Jazz Foundation of America Gala benefiting elder jazz and blues musicians, Steve told Entertainment Tonight: “The last time when we first came together for tsunami relief we were starting the ‘Continuum’ album, and so now we’re doing this relief and it’s in the middle of, or finishing John’s newest album, ‘The Search for Everything’.”
John interrupted to say: “Actually that’s the first time…. Steve has announced the record now twice, the name of the record twice, and I have not told anybody.”
And John decided to give some information about the first single, although he refused to name it.
He said: “It will be out within days. [Or] within weeks. A very scant number of weeks!”
Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes recently revealed that he has been getting advice from John, who critiqued all the songs on his new album ‘Illuminate’.
He said: “I didn’t get to work with him, but he listened to a bunch of the songs and gave great pieces of advice through the music and production and lyrics and stuff, especially on songs like ‘Three Empty Words’ and ‘Ruin’ and ‘Patience.’ It was great to have him listening through it all.”

Rick Parfitt quits Status Quo

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Parfitt has quit Status Quo.
The 68-year-old guitarist has called time on his performances with the rockers after nearly 50 years, just four months after he suffered a serious heart attack following their show in Turkey and “died for several minutes”.
When asked if he will play with the group again, he said: “No. I don’t think I really want to. In my heart I’m a rocker, I’ve always been. If I’m going to make music it’s got to rock.
“There would probably have been room for me if I decided I wanted to, but I’m not a great fan of the whole acoustic malarkey. It doesn’t float my boat. What I am disappointed in is missing the last of the band’s electric shows.”
While Rick will still be involved in the band’s business activities, he has been replaced by Richie Malone for their tours but the veteran rocker won’t be in attendance.
Quizzed on whether he will still be at their electric shows, he added: “That wouldn’t be a good move. Some fans would think, ‘If you’re well enough to be here then you’re well enough to play.’
“Plus, standing there in the audience … no, I don’t think I could do that, but I do wish Richie Malone all the best. He’s a f***ing good little player and it must be all of his dreams come true.”
Rick admits he still hasn’t “fully recovered” but did recently pass his driving test.
He added to Classic Rock magazine: “I would say that I’m fully recovered. As the weeks pass I’m better and better. I don’t know whether I will be able to improve on that because I feel as well as I did when I fell over.
“So I can’t complain. I’ve just passed my driving test – which was incredibly stressful at my age – but I’m mobile again now, so that’s a big difference.”
After suffering his third heart attack in Turkey, Rick admitted he was terrified he might “drop dead” on stage one day.
He said: “I’m just aware of the nervousness I get before I go on stage. It does pump your heart slightly when you start to pace up and down the room, and you’re about to go in front of thousands of people. Obviously it’s going to have some effect on you.
“I do not want to tax myself in any way. I’ve been told medically not to. So whether it’s a full gig or a cameo I’d still get fairly nervous and I do not want to get out on stage and drop dead in front of the fans. I do not want to do that.”
The full interview will appear in Classic Rock magazine’s December issue.

Shawn Mendes to collaborate with Niall Horan

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes is to collaborate with Niall Horan. The 18-year-old Canadian singer and 23-year-old One Direction star have been rumoured to be getting together to write a song for months, and now the ‘Treat You Better’ hitmaker has met with the Irish hunk and they have talked about working on a song when their schedules align.

Asked if the collaboration is happening, Shawn told Ross Kemp on Capital FM: “Yes, definitely, it will. Eventually when we get time. I met him for the first time the other day, but it’s funny because we felt like we knew each other because we were talking back and forth for a long time. But yeah, when we get the chance, I’d love to write with him. I think he’s incredible. He’s got this great, great vibe happening with this whole acoustic thing so I think I really want to get involved with it, if he is down. Which he is, I think.”

The pair met at the 2016 BBC Teen Awards last weekend where Niall performed his first ever solo gig.

And Shawn was named Best International Solo Artist and his song ‘Stitches’ was crowned Best Single at the star-studded ceremony in London. delighted the audience at the SSE Wembley Arena in London when he surprised the crowd by kicking off the event with a performance of his debut solo song ‘This Town’.

However, the sound cut during his performance but the 10,000-strong audience helped out by singing along and Niall insisted he didn’t feel strange going it alone.

Asked by co-host Nick Grimshaw if he felt lonely without the rest of the group, he said “definitely not”. He added: “It’s hard to feel lonely with 10,000 people in front of you.”

Rick Wakeman threatens to boycott Rock And Roll Hall of Fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Wakeman is considering boycotting the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame if his group Yes are inducted. The 67-year-old rocker is “disgusted” with how the progressive rock band have been treated over the years, and at the lack of recognition given to the alternative genre in general, and might not attend the annual ceremony in protest.

He said: “It seems anything to do with prog rock was considered a dirty word by them. It’s the most inventive and the most influential music to musicians that there’s ever been in the history of rock ‘n’ roll – and yet it’s ignored. I’m not sure whether I’d turn up. I’m so disgusted with the way that prog rock and Yes have been treated, I might be busy. I might be washing my hair that night.”

Rick, who joined Yes in 1972, feels the ‘Heart of the Sunrise’ hitmakers should have been inducted years ago and can’t understand some of the acts that have been be honoured in the past.

Speaking on Boston radio station 105.7 WROR, he said: “I pushed for Yes to go in the Hall of Fame when I wasn’t in the band, because I felt the band deserved to go in years ago.

“There’s some bands that have been inducted that I have no idea why they’re in there. There’s bands like Yes and a few others and you go, ‘Why aren’t they in?’ It just doesn’t make an ounce of sense to me.”

Rick, Original singer Jon Anderson, both sticksmen Bill Bruford and Alan White, keyboard player Tony Kaye, Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin [guitars] and the late bassist Chris Squire have each been nominated.

At this year’s event members of the public will once again be able to vote for their favourite rock acts to be inducted along with 800 music professionals who are tasked with narrowing down the list. The final five inductees are to be announced at the end of December, followed by a ceremony at the Barclay’s Center in New York in April 2017.

Louisa Johnson hated her X Factor winners song choice

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Johnson wasn’t happy with Simon Cowell’s song choice for her ‘X Factor’ winners single. The 18-year-old singer – who won the ITV talent show in 2015 with mentor Rita Ora – has admitted her version of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’, which was released on the 57-year-old music mogul’s Syco label, wasn’t for her and was she surprised it sold 39,000 copies and peaked at number nine in the charts.

She said: “I didn’t really gel with it that much, everyone knows it wasn’t the best song. I didn’t really like it, but it was just one of those things. It got to a higher spot than I thought it was going to get.”

The chart position resulted in Louisa being the first ‘X Factor’ winner in 12 years not to have their winner’s single at number one, unlike previous winner Ben Haenow who went straight to number one with ‘Something I Need’ in 2014.

The blonde beauty is gearing up to release her debut solo album, which she insists will be a completely different taste of music to what the viewers saw of her on the show.

She told The Sun newspaper: “There’s definitely a few raunchier songs on the album, but there is stuff for everyone, which I think is really important. None of it is fake, it’s all very much real. It’s all how I feel, how I act and what I do, but I didn’t get to show that side on the X Factor because it’s a competition and I wanted to get through each week.”

Louisa is to return to ‘The X Factor’ on Sunday (30.10.16) to perform her new single ‘So Good’ for the first time.

Neil Young announces new LP Peace Trail

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Young is to release new LP ‘Peace Trail’ in December. The 70-year-old music legend shows no signs of slowing down as he has unveiled his 38th studio album containing 10 brand new songs made at iconic producer Rick Rubin’s Shangri-la studios in Malibu.

The record, which will be released on Reprise Records on December 2, was produced by Young and co-producer John Hanlon and is said to be a “primarily acoustic” record.

Young dropped a music video for the single ‘Indian Givers’, which is about the Dakota Access Pipeline, in September. The former Crosby, Stills and Nash star started working on the record in 2015 after he released live album ‘Earth’, which was made while he was tour with Promise of the Real.

The album announcement comes after the ‘Heart of Gold’ hitmaker performed at Desert Trip at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California earlier this month, where he joined Sir Paul McCartney on stage to perform ‘A Day in the Life’, which was combined with the late John Lennon’s ‘Give Peace A Chance’ and The Beatles’ ‘Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?’

He also joined heavy metal titans Metallica on stage at the Bridge School Benefit Concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California this month for a rendition of Buffalo Springfield’s ‘Mr. Soul’ and he did a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ with Roger Waters.

Kenny Chesney to receive Pinnacle Award at CMAs

OHMYGOSSIP — Kenny Chesney is set to receive the Pinnacle Award at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. The 48-year-old country superstar will be honoured with the award during the award at the glitzy ceremony on Wednesday (02.11.16), and will be the third ever recipient after Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift.

The Pinnacle Award was created in 2005, and aims to recognise artists who have achieved global prominence through record sales and performances.

For Kenny, the Pinnacle Award will mark his ninth win at the ceremony, and he can already boast an impressive four gongs for Entertainer of the Year.

Over his expansive career, the ‘Come Over’ hitmaker has recorded a whopping 16 studio albums and scored 28 chart-topping country songs. His total record sales to date exceed 30 million albums. His new album, ‘Cosmic Hallelujah’ will be released on Friday (28.10.16) and includes a duet with pop superstar Pink on the track ‘Setting The World on Fire’.

The news comes after Kenny – who is considered one of music’s greatest touring acts – recently revealed he would not be touring in 2017 after a mammoth 160 shows in 18 months.

He said: “We’re going to pull back just a little bit [from the road]. The last two years have been so intense; we’ve done 160 shows in an 18-month period. So I felt, with the new music, I want the fans to digest it and let it seep into their lives a little bit.
“So next year, we’ll do five or six shows, we don’t know how many yet, but other than that, we’ll let this new music find its way. Then the next year, we’ll crank it up again.”

Kesha wants to release a ballad

OHMYGOSSIP — Kesha would love to release a ballad.
The 29-year-old’s career stalled when she was locked in a court battle with her label Sony and producer Dr. Luke, after claiming he sexually assaulted her – which he denies – but Kesha has been working on new music and is eager to show off a new side of herself to fans.
She told the New York Times: “To this day, I’ve never released a single that’s a true ballad, and I feel like those are the songs that balance out the perception of you, because you can be a fun girl. You can go and have a crazy night out, but you also, as a human being, have vulnerable emotions. You have love.”
Kesha loves that her music has helped people through difficult situations.
She said: “I looked at people in the face, and they said: ‘You helped me.’ ‘You helped me come out to my parents.’ ‘You helped save my life.’ And all of a sudden, I, unbeknown to me, am changing the world in a positive way, and now that I’ve gained the knowledge that this is possible through music, that’s the most important part of it.”
However, she admitted she faced backlash for singing about the same things male singers.
She explained: “You know, when I first came out, I was saying I want to even the playing field. I’m a superfeminist. I am an ultra-till-the-day-I-die feminist, and I am allowed to do, and say, and participate in all the activities that men can do, and they get celebrated for it. And women get chastised for it.”
