Robbie Williams reunites with Take That

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams reunited with Take That on stage on Monday night (07.11.16).
The 42-year-old singer was joined by his bandmates Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald at London’s Troxy, where he was performing a special show to mark him being presented with the BRITs Icon Award.
The ‘Never Forget’ hitmakers shocked fans by taking to the stage to present Robbie with the prize and performed hits ‘Back For Good’ and ‘The Flood’ with him.
Howard told Robbie: “Whether you like it or not, you will always be a member of Take That.”
Robbie had earlier admitted that he doesn’t have time to team up with the group in the next 12 months, but they will “definitely” reunite again at some point.
He said: “It might happen, who knows, but right now I don’t think so.
“Reunion at some point, definitely – but we just couldn’t get our diaries to work in the next 12 months.”
The ‘Let Me Entertain You’ hitmaker was awarded the special gong in recognition of his incredible career, which has seen him pick up 17 past BRIT Awards.
But he recently admitted he fears he doesn’t “deserve” the special accolade.
He said: “It is an honour but what happens is like a mirror going to me, ‘You don’t deserve this’. I will try my best to enjoy the evening but you know I’m a cracked person with low self-esteem issues.”
This comes just weeks after Robbie admitted he would “love” to join Gary, Mark and Howard on a potential Take That 25th anniversary tour, but he simply doesn’t have the time.
He said: “My head is, I’d love to do something with the boys but I don’t know if it’s going to be next year because you know, I want this album to have legs and I’m going to go on tour.
“As you can imagine, diary goes: album promo until January, February, March, and then I go on tour for a year which takes me through next year, next Christmas, which would be when the boys would be releasing an album I suppose. I can’t do it. I can’t do it next year. I want to – I want to be able to do both, but you can’t.”

Robbie Williams wants Glastonbury gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams would “love to play Glastonbury”.
The 42-year-old pop star has returned with his eleventh studio LP ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’ and has just announced a European tour for 2017 which will see him play 29 shows in 18 countries with just six dates confirmed for the UK.
Robbie is booked to perform at the London Stadium on Friday, June 23 but has the rest of the weekend free – which is when the world famous music festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England.
The ‘Love My Life’ singer went to Glastonbury as a reveller in 1995 and, before his long-running feud with Liam Gallagher and his brother Noel Gallagher erupted, he partied with Oasis, who were headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night.
He then returned in 1998 to perform the early evening slot on the Saturday and as he has never headlined the festival Robbie is hoping for a call from organisers Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily Eavis to take top billing.
Speaking at a press conference to announce ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show Tour’, he said: “If they asked me I’d do it, but I don’t think it’s going to happening this time. I’d love to play Glastonbury. I would like to play the Pyramid Stage in front of a record-breaking amount of people please.”
The former Take That star kicks off his run of shows at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on June 2 with Erasure supporting him as special guests.
Robbie has used a host of songwriters on his album such as The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid it also features a duet with Rufus Wainwright on ‘Hotel Crazy’.
The ‘Angels’ hitmaker is hoping to get some of his collaborators on stage to give fans a special surprise.
He said: “If Rufus or Ed Sheeran is around when I’m around I would like them to come and sing with me then. We will see.”
Robbie will receive the BRITs Icon Award at a one-off show at The Troxy in London on Monday night (07.11.16). It will be the 18th BRIT Award he has received during his career.

BRIT Awards 2017 set for major voting shakeup

OHMYGOSSIP — The BRIT Awards 2017 will see a major shakeup in voting in a bid to make the awards show more gender and ethnicity balanced.
The organisers have decided to invite 1,200 industry professionals to join the BRITs Voting Academy, which selects the nominees and the winners of most of the prizes.
This year will see 57 per cent of the invites go out to new members in a bid to promote a diverse awards show.
This will include 718 potential new voters to achieve greater gender balance as well as increased BAME (Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic) representation.
The changes have been led by BPI Chairman, Ged Doherty, who earlier this year gave a public undertaking to review the Voting Academy.
Ged said: “I’m really proud that we’ve taken firm action to refresh the Academy to ensure that it keeps up with trends in music and society at large. I believe that as a result of these changes the BRITs will be better equipped to reflect the diverse nature of Britain and British music. There’s been a long-held myth that BRITs winners and nominees are decided by industry executives in a smoke-filled room, but the simple truth is that the awards are voted for each year by a 1000+ strong Voting Academy made up of experts drawn from all areas of music.”
The BPI appointed a specialist committee comprising leading Black and Asian figures from music and media to advise on the Academy’s voting structure.
The invitation list for the 2017 Awards is made up of 52 per cent male and 48 per cent female members – a significant shift from the 70/30 split for the 2016 Awards.
With 17 per cent of this year’s invitees are BAME, Which is 15 per cent more than 2016.
The 2017 BRIT nominations will be announced on January 14 live on a primetime ITV Saturday evening slot – featuring special performances.
The BRIT Awards 2017 take place on Wednesday February 22 at London’s The O2, hosted by Canadian superstar Michael Bublé, and will broadcast live on ITV.

Phil Collins vows to perform drums on 2017 tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Collins wants to perform ‘In The Air Tonight’ on drums despite suffering with crippling back pain.
The 65-year-old singer – who first found fame as the drummer and then frontman of Genesis – is hoping to pick up his sticks for the drum part on the classic 1981 hit to perform the song at least once on his ‘Not Dead Yet: Live 2017 Tour’, even if he has to “tape the sticks” to his hands. According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he told a US radio station: “I am sure I will be able to pull that together, yeah. I’m going to do something and hopefully be playing that.
“And I am going to apply myself to do something and hopefully be playing that particular thing (‘In The Air Tonight’) with my son Nick, who is playing drums on the tour.
“It is the subtlety in my hands that is important and I know that drum fill isn’t particularly subtle but there is a subtlety to what I do and when I play which involves my fingers and I have had this neuro problem for a while so even if I have to tape the sticks to my hand I will do something.”
The ‘Against All Odds’ hitmaker retired from playing music due to his bad back and hearing issues, which affected from playing drums, but his doctor recently told him he can play percussion again.
He previously said: “After this surgery, though, the doctor said to me that my vital signs were all there. He said to me, ‘If you want to play drums again, all you have to do is practice.’ ”
Phil’s motivation for ending his self-imposed exodus was that his youngest children, Matthew Collins, 11, and Nicholas Collins, 15, have never seen him perform on stage.
Speaking last year, he said: “I’m no longer officially retired. The horse is out of the stable and I’m raring to go.
“My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does. They were in nappies when I was last on the road. They love my music and I’d like to take them out so they can enjoy it.”

Two Door Cinema Club 'broke down' before releasing Gameshow

OHMYGOSSIP — Two Door Cinema Club have revealed the band almost “broke down” during the making of new album ‘Gameshow’.
The rock band – comprised of Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, and Kevin Baird – released their first album in four years last month, and have now opened up about the lack of “communication” between them that almost ruined them before the album was released.
Frontman Alex, told NME magazine: “Communication had broken down through being in each other’s company constantly for years.
“It’s hard to communicate when you just want to escape. The hard work, for all of the damage it does, is undoubtedly beneficial. But it also generates a fear that if you stop, then everything’s going to go away.
“It’s ‘living the dream’, but you fear that once you have it, you could easily lose it. So that’s what stopped us giving ourselves time to breathe.”
Sam, the band’s guitarist, added: “We didn’t have anything else outside of the band.
“It makes everything seem so much more important, because you’re there in it all the time. Stuff that really wasn’t that big of a deal became a massive deal.”
Whilst bass player Kevin told the publication: “We began to realise we were very different people: we’d started to feel like we couldn’t express ourselves individually and that we were always ‘that guy from that band’.”
Alex also revealed that work on the album had to come to a halt for “two weeks” after he was sent to hospital when he suffered from stress-induced stomach ulcers.
He added: “I was in there for two weeks. So that became the point where we had to stop.”
Two Door Cinema Club’s ‘Gameshow’ was released on October 14, and is their first album since ‘Beacon’ in 2012.

Susan Boyle praises Simon Cowell

OHMYGOSSIP — Susan Boyle has praised Simon Cowell as a “genius”.
The 55-year-old singer revealed the music mogul – who discovered her on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ – chose all of the songs for her new album ‘A Wonderful World’ and she trusts him completely.
She told Event magazine: “I had a lot of fun making it. Simon picked the songs. I’ll always put my trust in Simon – he’s a genius.
“I don’t see that much of him, but I hear from him a lot.
Although it was claimed last year that Simon was planning to drop her from his Syco label, she said: “All those things were totally untrue and I had had a very successful meeting with [Cowell’s] Syco Records.”
The album is a collection of covers of famous love songs and Susan is thrilled with the romantic record.
She said: “It’s very romantic, isn’t it? Especially at the time of year when people are looking for something extra-special. Perfect for a couple who meet for the first time.”
While Susan says she has never been in love, she revealed she took inspiration from her parents for the music.
She said: “The songs were favourites of my mum and dad.”
Susan had a cameo in Ben Stiller’s ‘Zoolander 2’ and is taking acting lessons in order to land more acting roles.
She said: “Ben Stiller was very clever and very funny. I’m doing improvisation and textual reading – it’s about analysing characters and building things up.”

Olly Murs: I'm too well known to go to the cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs can’t go to the cinema any more because he gets recognised.
The 32-year-old singer was the runner up on UK talent competition ‘The X Factor’ in 2009, and says he’s too famous to go to the cinema, even though it’s his “favourite thing to do”.
Asked what he’d spend £24 on, the ‘You Don’t Know Love’ singer told Top of the Pops magazine: “I’d go and watch a sci-fi film, like the new Star Wars one coming out next year. I don’t get to go to the cinema much any more, but it’s one of my absolutely favourite things to do. I’d definitely get some cheesy nachos and a great big bag of pick ‘n’ mix, too.”
And chances are the ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ hitmaker would take his nephew with him to see the upcoming blockbuster, as he says he’s “always thinking about” his sister’s son.
He said: “I’m always thinking about my nephew, Louie, and wondering what he’s up to. My sister sent me a video of him at a mic stand holding a guitar singing ‘You Don’t Know Love’ the other day and it’s the cutest thing ever. I’m obsessed with him.”
The singer – who was asked a range of questions by the publication around the theme of the number 24, to celebrate the upcoming release of his new album ’24hrs’ – also explained how a decision to go backpacking in Australia when he was 24 ended with him auditioning for ‘The X Factor’.
He explained: “I backpacked around Australia for four months, which was amazing. While there, I decided to audition for ‘The X Factor’ for the third time once I got back. Fast-forward eight years and here I am!”

The Kinks wants Glastonbury reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Ray Davies wants to reunite The Kinks for Glastonbury.
The 72-year-old frontman revealed he wants to work with his brother and bandmate Dave, 69, again, despite years of feuding and he hopes the band can headline the annual music festival in Somerset, England.
He told The Sun: “Dave and I will definitely work together again. And we want to play live.
“Maybe The Kinks could play Glastonbury?”
Ray and Dave founded the band in 1963 and split in 1996.
However, the brothers performed together for the first time in almost 20 years in 2015, when Ray joined Dave on stage in London for a performance of ‘You Really Got Me’.
Speaking about the performance previously, Ray told the Evening Standard: “I’m still trying to live that down. I joined him on stage briefly but it would be overly romantic to think it was because of the show or to start talking about a reunion.”
The band has had a number of different line-ups over the years but the siblings have featured in each one.
The Kinks’ classic line-up featured Mick Avory on drums and the late Pete Quaife on bass.
Quaife was replaced by John Dalton in 1969 while Bob Henrit took over from Avory in 1984, but Avory is expected to return for a reunion.

Sir Cliff Richard announces tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Cliff Richard has announced a UK tour for 2017.
The 76-year-old singer will play a series of all-seated outdoor gigs in castles and historic locations next summer, in support of his 102nd album, ‘Fabulous Rock n Roll’.
The tour kicks off on June 17 at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, and calls at a further seven venues before he ends the run of shows with two nights at Greenwich’s Old Royal Naval College in London on July 1 and 2.
Support acts for the concerts will be announced at a later date.
Tickets go on sale on 14 November.
Cliff recently admitted he is keen to play Glastonbury, though as his tour falls while the world-famous festival takes place, that seems unlikely to happen next year.
He said: “[The tour concerts] are like festival shows; open air concerts.
“We’re doing two in Denmark, one in Ireland and nine in Britain.
“If they invited me to Glastonbury I would seriously think about doing it. Then I’d either plan a tour to start there or end there. It would be great.”
However, the ‘Summer Holiday’ actor has revealed he wouldn’t want to camp because he doesn’t like to get dirty and covered in mud.
He explained: “Camping’s not for me. I’m too old for that – I wouldn’t want to get dirty.”
But the veteran musician has admitted he has “admiration” for all of the concert-goers who embrace the weather conditions and the lack of showers and washing facilities to watch the acts regardless of who is performing.
He said: “I have admiration for all those folk that go. Apparently there have only been seven years when it didn’t rain.
“They seem to have great fun all sloshing about in the mud. It doesn’t even matter what bands are there – although they love their bands – it could be anybody playing.
“They’re just there having a good time. It’s wonderful to see.”
Sir Cliff Richard’s ‘Just Fabulous Rock n Roll’ 2017 tour dates:
June:
Saturday 17th Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire
Sunday 18th Stansted Park, Hampshire

Gwen Stefani: My music eased my pain

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwen Stefani’s new songs were a “Band-Aid from God”.
The ‘Used to Love You’ singer penned her latest album, ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’, in the wake of the end of her marriage to Gavin Rossdale – the father of her children Kingston, 10, Zuma, eight, and two-year-old Apollo – and she thinks the music came to her as a way to ease her pain.
She said: “I feel like God just handed these songs to me as a kind of Band-Aid, to help me through this crazy time in my life. And it’s all about finding your talent and then sharing it.
“I think of being able to pour my emotions into songs as a gift. It’s very gratifying to be able to go through those difficult and negative feelings and use them to create something positive.
“I was aching to be creative again, so this has been inspiring and comforting because I was feeling insecure about my work. Now I feel I’ve got my confidence back.”
After doubting her abilities as a songwriter, the 47-year-old singer felt she was being “selfish” in not sharing her work and talents in the wake of her marriage split.
She explained: “It was a wake-up call. When things started to unravel in my life last year, I thought to myself, ‘Get back on track and stop being insecure about writing and what you’re here for. Stop being selfish and share what you’ve got.'”
But Gwen – who is now dating country singer Blake Shelton – admits it wasn’t always easy to feel motivated into working on new tracks.
She told Psychologies magazine: “I just wanted to write songs that expressed what I was going through emotionally.
“That was the inspiration and force behind the album. It was really hard, because I just wanted to get under the covers and eat a lot of pizza and cry. But I went to the studio.”

Prince songs spark streaming row

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince’s music is at the centre of a row between Universal Music Publishing Group and Tidal.
The late ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker’s estate agreed earlier this week to sell the singer’s songwriting rights to Universal – meaning his music could become more widely available to stream – but the Jay Z’s company have insisted they have exclusive rights to the work.
According to the New York Post newspaper, Tidal – who put out Prince’s final albums, ‘Hit n Run Phase One’ and ‘Hit n Run Phase Two’ — began lobbying a Minnesota court before the Universal deal was struck, claiming the ‘1999’ singer had granted them exclusive rights to his catalogue of master recordings.
Last month, Tidal submitted a legal letter to probate court Judge Kevin Eide and claimed they would seek injunctive relief if any deals struck by Prince’s estate – which still has ownership of his songs – violate the agreement they made with the star.
According to Tidal, Prince had agreed to grant them streaming rights to a ‘Hit n Run’ remix album, another new LP and the rights to his back catalogue.
However, a source claimed Tidal only had a one-year deal to stream Prince’s music and are not entitled to rights in the long term.
Prince’s estate is managed by industry veterans L. Londell McMillan and Charles Koppelman – who were appointed by bank Bremer Trust – but the ‘Little Red Corvette’ hitmaker’s siblings are reportedly not happy with McMillan and are also keen on being involved with controlling the rights to his music.
In 2015, the singer – who died from an overdose in April – pulled all his music from other streaming apps such as Spotify.

Craig David wins Best Male Act at MOBOs

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig David won Best Male Act at the 2016 MOBO Awards on Friday (04.11.16).
The 35-year-old singer/songwriter – who released his sixth album, ‘Following My Intuition’ this year – beat off competition from Skepta, Stormzy, Kano and Tinie Tempah to take home the coveted prize, 15 years after he last won a MOBO award.
This is Craig’s ninth MOBO award and the star also performed at the ceremony at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, alongside stars including Clean Bandit, Professor Green and Wiley.
He said: “I’m overwhelmed and honoured. The public have supported me from the beginning. To be back here with a new album it’s just crazy. I just want to thank everyone who’s been there since 1999 and the Artful Dodger days.
“The crowds here have been amazing over the course of my 16 years performing, so to be actually able to perform here again – and the MOBOs have supported me from 2000, so it’s been an amazing journey. It’s a celebration of music and I’m just happy to be a part of it to be honest.”
Lady Leshurr beat Laura Mvula, Katy B, and Nao to take home the top prize in the Best Female Act category.
And there was a surprise in the Best Album category as Kano’s ‘Made In The Manor’ beat favourite Skepta’s ‘Konnichiwa’.
R&B trio WSTRN were mistakenly announced as winners of Best Song and even gave a speech before it was revealed that MC Abra Cadabra had won.
MOBO organisers blamed a production error and said: “Of the many worthy winners of best song, we deeply regret a mistake was made.”
Meanwhile, there was also controversy before the show when Tinie Tempah pulled out of a planned performance, citing “industry politics”.
He posted a handwritten note on Instagram, which read: “I will not be performing at this year’s MOBOs for reasons that are outside mine and the MOBOs control.
“The MOBOs is a ceremony I have grown up watching and take pride in. It’s given a platform to so many artists, who have inspired me.
“So I always go above and beyond to attend. I am gutted to not be performing
“I didn’t go into this much detail because I want to have a moan. I wrote this because my music and my culture is very important to me and this has been the same issue year after year.
“It is frustrating when music industry politics dictate my ability to celebrate either. It’s been a great year for British music, especially the underground. I will be watching and supporting (sic).”
The 21st annual MOBO Awards were hosted by Melvin Odoom and his Kiss Breakfast Show co-host Rickie Haywood Williams.
