Lorde listens to new record through Apple earphones

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorde has been listening to her new album through Apple earphones so she knows what it will sound like for her fans.
The ‘Royal’ hitmaker has shared a picture of the white earpiece on her Twitter and hinted that her follow-up to 2013’s debut ‘Pure Heroine’ is nearly finished.
She captioned the photo: “listen to the record on these every day. wanna hear it exactly how you will (sic)”
Lorde previously teased new music in a heartfelt letter to fans to mark her 20th birthday.
The British singer – who turned 20 on November 7 – has produced “the best lyrics” she’s ever written and is desperate to release her second record.
The lengthy post titled ‘A Note From The Desk Of A Newborn Adult’ shared on her Facebook page begins: “Tomorrow I turn 20, and it’s all I’ve been able to think about for days.”
It goes on to reveal: “Writing ‘Pure Heroine’ was my way of enshrining our teenage glory, putting it up in lights forever so that part of me never dies, and this record – well, this one is about what comes next.
I want nothing more than to spill my guts RIGHT NOW about the whole thing – I want you to see the album cover, pore over the lyrics (the best I’ve written in my life), touch the merch, experience the live show. I can hardly stop myself from typing out the name. I just need to keep working a while longer to make it as good as it can be. You’ll have to hold on. The big day is not tomorrow, or even next month realistically, but soon. I know you understand.”
Her letter came after a fan took to Instagram earlier this year and moaned about how long it is taking for her to release new music.
The furious star replied: “Give up on me if you want to! I’m an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it’s all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork.”

Morrissey cancels Denver show after keyboardist collapses

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey was forced to cancel his concert in Denver on Monday night (14.11.16) after his keyboardist collapsed.
The former Smiths star was scheduled to perform a show at the Boulder Theatre in the capital of Colorado, however, he walked out on stage 15 minutes before the gig was due to start to announce that Gustavo Manzur had become ill and they didn’t know what was wrong with him.
In a video posted on social media by a fan, he told the sold-out crowd: “Our good friend Gustavo has collapsed and is in your local hospital.
“We don’t know what’s happened to him. This is a family, we stay together. We can’t move until we know what’s happened to him, if there’s any magical cure!”
Fans waited for more news from the band for 20 minutes before the 57-year-old rocker’s guitarist Jesse Tobias came out and called off the event.
A statement was later released by the concert’s promoters stating that gig-goers can claim a full refund and that Morrissey hopes to reschedule the show soon.
It read: “Refunds available at point of purchase.
“It is with great regret that tonight’s sold out engagement with Morrissey has been cancelled due to the severe illness of a member of the band.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope to announce a rescheduled date soon.”
Morrissey is yet to give an update on his band mate’s condition.

The 1975's next LP could have a 'punk lyrical ethos'

OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975’s next album may incorporate a “punk lyrical ethos” following the election of President Donald Trump.
The indie rock band’s frontman Matt Healy feels he has a “responsibility” to his fans to write songs which challenge the current political climate and although his lyrics are usually about his personal life, he looks set to tackle politics knowing his next album will be released with Trump in power in America.
Speaking in an interview with NPR Music, the 27-year-old singer said: “My band is starting to become a very, very big band. A very important band to lots of young people who have just felt directly disenfranchised by this situation.
“We’re talking about Brexit, we’re talking about the Trump presidency. And the fact of the matter is, is that my responsibility was always artistic and it was kind of to myself. But now I know that my next record is going to come out within the Trump presidency. I think there’s more of an expectancy for art to be more actively challenging what we see every day.
“And what would be interesting for me is to see how we incorporate that into the way that The 1975 works because The 1975 is kind of like my diary. I’m either really, really frank or it’s kind of conversational. When it gets political, it’s still all about me.
“So I don’t yet know how I’d make a kind of a record with a punk lyrical ethos.”
In June, the ‘Love Me’ hitmaker showed his political stance by pausing his band’s Glastonbury set to bemoan Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
The rock star stopped before their performance of ‘Loving Someone’ to claim the country has expressed a “sentiment of anti-compassion” following the referendum vote on the issue, saying that it stood in direct contrast to their song.
Matt explained: “This song is about compassion, and loving people, and I feel like as a young person I’ve got a responsibility to say something.
“What do I know, I don’t f**king know anything. I’m a pop star in a suit, but what I feel, and I know what a lot of people my age feel is that there’s this sentiment of anti-compassion that’s spread across an older generation and voted in a future that we don’t f**king want.”
The 1975’s last album was this year’s Mercury-nominated ‘I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It’.

Noah Cyrus drops debut single with Labrinth

OHMYGOSSIP — Noah Cyrus is launching a pop career with the help of Labrinth. The younger sister of ‘Wrecking Ball’ hitmaker Miley Cyrus, 23, has teamed up with the London-based singer and producer for her debut solo single ‘Make me (Cry)’.

Taking to Twitter to share the single, she wrote: “so happy to finally share this. my new song #MakeMeCry feat. @Labrinth is out now!!! (sic)” It comes following the rumours that the 16-year-old singer has signed a record deal with Universal Music Group. Noah’s mother Trish previously tagged the address of the record label in an Instagram post, with the caption: “Here I go again #dejavu (sic).”

The rising pop star is reportedly set to rake in over $350,000 from the signing. The Disney star is believed to have signed two contracts, one paying her $250,000 for the release of her debut album and another for writing worth $100,000, according to TMZ. The gossip website also reports that if her first album is a chart success she would get a $1.5 million advance to make a follow-up.

Prior to the single, Noah teamed up with Frankie Jonas (Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas’ younger brother) for ‘Ponyo Song’ in 2009. She follows in the footsteps of her pop superstar sibling Miley, their brother Trace, who is in pop punk band Metro Station, and their country music legend father, Billy Ray.

Michael Stipe returning to music

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Stipe is returning to music.
The former R.E.M frontman is keen to get involved in the industry again five years after the group split following 30 years together, and his first foray into the business will be to produce electroclash group Fischerspooner’s album ‘SIR’.
He told the New York Times: “I’m not ready to go completely into pop stardom again, as a 56-year-old. I want to work in music again.”
R.E.M split in 2011 following the release of their 15th album, ‘Collapse Into Now’, and guitarist Pete Buck has since claimed tensions began for the group during a three-hour band meeting in 2008, and ended three years later when Michael, 56, revealed he needed “a long” break.
He previously said: “We got together, and Michael said, ‘I think you guys will understand. I need to be away from this for a long time.’
“And I said, ‘How about forever?’ Michael looked at Mike [Mills], and Mike said, ‘Sounds right to me.’ That’s how it was decided.”
In March, Michael was among the likes of Debbie Harry and Cyndi Lauper to honour the late David Bowie – who died of cancer in January aged 69 – at a special concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Michael teamed up with Karen Nelson for a rendition of ‘Ashes to Ashes’, Debbie performed ‘Starman’ and Cyndi belted out ‘Suffragette City’.
The singer recently commented on the US Presidential election, admitting he partly blames Alec Baldwin for Donald Trump’s popularity following the actor’s comic portrayal of the ‘Apprentice’ boss on ‘Saturday Night Live’.
He said: “It is so sad that we have allowed ourselves to sink to this level of really entertainment, that’s what it is.
“I blame media completely for it, including ‘Saturday Night Live’.
“What does it feel like from inside? What does it feel like playing that character? It’s satire, it’s brilliantly done, but it’s still adding to the push of… Warhol said, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. How have we created this monster? How have we put our particular American brand on this thing?”

Gabrielle Aplin using healing crystals to cope with music industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle Aplin has been using healing crystals to get her ready to face the music industry again.
The ‘Please Don’t Say You Love Me’ singer is gearing up to release her new EP ‘Miss You’ – her first release since 2015’s ‘Light Up the Dark’ LP – and in a bid to free her mind and deal with the pressures that come with being a pop star she’s taken up “spiritual practices”.
She said: “I’ve been involved in spiritual practices and trying to make myself a happy person. I set half an hour aside each day for my brain.
“I started meditating, learning about healing crystals, essential oils, ancient ley lines, Glastonbury, the Celts, Pagans. It could be b*******, but I really believe in it.”
The 24-year-old beauty, who shot to fame with her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s ‘The Power of Love’ in 2012, has opened up about her battle with her mental health and how “hard” she found it not having a structure to her busy schedule.
She told the Metro newspaper: “Creative industries are full of loads of highs but also loads of lows.I really like routine and it’s hard …
“one day you’ll be on tour, doing a day of promo, doing a show, coming off stage, meeting a hundred people, then you’ve got two weeks of nothing – that really affected me mentally.
“It’s very difficult to complain when you’re in such a privileged position and I don’t ever want to seem negative, but at the same time, it’s hard.”
Gabrielle’s EP ‘Miss You’ is out on December 16.

Green Day hate fans using phones at gigs

OHMYGOSSIP — Green Day hate fans who use their phones during shows.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s pet hate is seeing an auditorium full of lit up mobile phones and has admitted he wishes fans would stop filming and taking pictures during their concerts and instead have a more “human” connection with the ‘American Idiot’ rock band.
He explained: “Social media can be a very miserable place to be.
At our shows I see a lot of people holding up cell phones.
“You can look at a screen at home; you can look at your computer or your phone anywhere.
“You can take your picture but let’s have eye contact, let’s have a human experience right now you can’t capture on a cell phone.
“Why would you want to listen to your favourite song going like this [holds arm in air] when you can just hear it right in front of you? I feel like a little more human contact is good.”
The 44-year-old rocker – who is joined by Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt in the pop punk trio – also admitted he still hasn’t grasped the world of celebrity and may never will.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m trying to make sense of the things that will never make sense.
“Things about society that make no sense, the things about watching someone that is the biggest celebrity in the world who has absolutely nothing to offer the world.”
Green Day returned with their 12th studio LP ‘Radio Revolution’ last month and were honoured with the Global Icon Award at the 2016 MTV European Music Awards.

Billy Bob Thornton: 'I wrote my first song at three'

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Bob Thornton wrote his first ever song aged three years old.
The 61-year-old singer and actor embarked on a career in the music industry in the 1990s, but has admitted he began writing songs long before he released his debut album ‘Private Radio’ in 2001 after being given a “little guitar” from his uncle.
Speaking about his earliest musical memory, the ‘Angelina’ hitmaker said: “My uncle bought me a little guitar when I was very young. I wrote my first song at three [years old], called ‘Cat S*** On A Rat Box’. My dad would swear, so that’s where I got it from.”
And The Boxmasters band member has revealed he was a “huge fan” of The Allman Brothers Band and has revealed his most prized possession is the leather bag the group’s late bass player, Berry Oakley, always used to carry around before he passed away in 1972.
Speaking about the band and his treasured gift, the filmmaker said: “I was a huge fan of The Allman Brothers Band and Phil Walden, who was head of Capricorn Records, helped launch their career and later became my manager. Sir Elton John reveals one of his big passions

OHMYGOSSIP — Photography is Sir Elton John’s biggest passion outside of music.
The iconic singer-songwriter is an avid art collector and is particularly fond of photography – even though he is useless with a camera himself.
Recalling how his passion for photography developed in 1991, Sir Elton shared: “I’d just gotten sober back then and it was like I was seeing with clear eyes. I was in a chateau in the south of France and David Fahey, who owns a gallery in LA, showed me some prints by Herb Ritts and Horst and Irving Penn and that was it.
“Suddenly, I discovered something that I had been surrounded by for years and never noticed as an art form despite having had my portrait taken by the likes of Penn and [Richard] Avedon.
“I just flew into it and began to amass prints at auction and in private sales. It became the greatest passion I have outside of music.”
Sir Elton said that although he is unable to take a good photograph himself, some of his well-known musician friends are talented with a camera in hand.
Asked if he is a good photographer, Sir Elton told the Observer newspaper: “Nah, I can’t take a photograph to save my life. The singer John Grant is a great photographer, though he hasn’t published any yet. And Michael Stipe is fantastic. I’m not.”

Gwen Stefani: Touring nearly 'killed' me

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwen Stefani was almost “killed” by touring.
The 47-year-old singer – who has sons Kingston, 10, Zuma, eight, and two-year-old Apollo with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale – has recently returned to live performing and admitted she took a lengthy break from the stage because it is so demanding.
She said: “Every time I go out on stage, I have to do my best. You can’t just walk through it. You have to be in it, and its exhausting.
“I think it’s one of the reasons I haven’t toured solo in seven years, because the last one I did almost killed me, after having those two babies then going on tour and nursing an infant. Doing those No Doubt shows [in 2015] were super physical.”
But Gwen is enjoying performing live to promote her album ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’ – which was written in the wake of her marriage breakdown – as she finds it “healing” and empowering.
She said: “Touring is really draining, but it’s also satisfying and healing and it’s going to be something that will make me feel super empowered.”
The ‘Used To Love You’ hitmaker – who is now dating Blake Shelton – is still amazed at how quickly her latest album was written and recorded.
She told Psychologies magazine: “It came together a lot more quickly than I expected.
“It took me eight weeks and sometimes it’s taken me three years to finish an album. I wrote ‘Used to Love You’ and two weeks later, it was on the air. IT was like this was all happening in real time.”

Emeli Sande: I did not feel under pressure with new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Emeli Sande did not feel under any external pressure making her comeback album.
The 29-year-old singer took a four-year break from the industry following the success of her debut release ‘Our Version of Events’, but she has revealed that the success of her first release has minimal impact on ‘Long Live the Angels’, her second studio album.
Emeli shared: “I didn’t feel pressure from the outside. When I write I take myself away and surround myself with friends and musicians, people I love, so any pressure comes from me, nitpicking and making it right.
“I wanted to make something that was worth four years out and reflected what those years of growth were for me.
“I wanted to tell a story of survival, that was very honest about the lows and the highs. I wanted to say you can get through it and find self-love, which I found towards the end, that’s the message.”
Emeli believes she has become more self-aware in recent years, and thinks that is reflected in her new music.
She told the Scotsman newspaper: “I feel like the last four years changed me. I’m much more realistic in my view of the world and my place in it. I have grown up a lot. Before I shied away from being independent and having responsibilities and being a grown up.
“As long as you do your job writing songs, everything is done for you, which is amazing, but I needed to learn grown up skills and develop knowledge and independence, self-awareness and identity.
“Now I’m more confident in what I want to say. It’s a cliché, but it’s about understanding yourself and your identity. Over this time I stepped into womanhood and adulthood and understood the reality of life. I went on a crash course of life. It was a coming of age.”

Victoria Beckham wants to manage son's music career

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham wants to oversee her son’s pop career.
The former Spice Girls singer is keen to ensure 11-year-old Cruz Beckham doesn’t fall victim to the pitfalls of fame and thinks her own experiences make her the perfect person to manage the aspiring singer, though her husband David Beckham is worried she is already too busy with her fashion empire.
A source said: “Victoria is adamant she needs to be Cruz’s manager and says it’s a no brainer given she has the vital experience from being in the industry for so long and knowing the mechanics of how it works.
“David thinks it is too much and doesn’t know how she’ll have the time to give Cruz the attention he needs. But she insists she’ll do whatever it takes and make sacrifices if need be to ensure she’s there to guide him.”
Instead, the retired soccer star – who also has Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, and Harper, five, with Victoria – thinks Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun would be the ideal person to help Cruz achieve musical success.
The source added to Closer magazine: “David thinks someone like Scooter would be far better suited given his experience managing Justin as a child star and having so many connections in the industry, which Victoria doesn’t have after being out of the game for so long.
“But Victoria is upset David won’t back her on this and it’s causing tension with neither of them wanting to back down. Like any parents, they both want the best when it comes to their children.”
‘X Factor’ boss Simon Cowell has previously expressed an interest in signing Cruz to his Syco label after seeing his online performance videos.
He said: “Get him in and we’ll sign him.”
