Cast’s John Power predicts Oasis reunion tour will eclipse Knebworth

OHMYGOSSIP — Cast’s John Power hopes the Oasis reunion tour will be talked about for years to come like the Britpop legends’ iconic Knebworth shows.
The Liverpool group will be joining fellow ’90s rockers Oasis on the UK and Ireland leg of their ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour next year – their first jaunt since 2009 – and the former La’s frontman insists “no one’s getting nostalgic” as they aim to play shows that will go down in history like Oasis’ era-defining shows at Knebworth in 1996, at which they performed to 250,000 people over two nights.
Cast also opened for the ‘Supersonic’ hitmakers at Knebworth and John promises the comeback run – which commences on July 4 in Cardiff – is going to be just as “electric”.
He told NME: “When you walk on stage, it’s about the here and now – no one’s getting nostalgic. It’s not about yesterday, these [Oasis] shows are going to be about 2025 and creating the myth of tomorrow. Hopefully 20 years from now, people will be talking about this tour like they talk about the legend of Knebworth or whatever.”
Despite frontman Liam Gallagher and guitarist Noel Gallagher’s 15-year feud – which they put to bed this year to give fans what they’ve always wanted – John anticipates that the tour will run like a “well-oiled machine”, just like Liam’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour this year, which Cast also had the pleasure of being a part of, with no ‘rock’n’roll antics like the drug and alcohol-fuelled Britpop days.
He said: “Back in the ‘90s, we were young kids. It was a very hedonistic period. It was just the bands: the journalists, the record executives, everyone was partying. It just wears you out. There’s no better feeling than feeling good about yourself and being able to perform. That energy is valuable, and to demean it by going on stage trashed doesn’t last long.
“The Liam ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour ran like a well-oiled machine. The vibe backstage was so positive. The same thing will happen with Oasis. Everyone involved in this tour wants to be there. Everyone has been through all the things you can talk about with rock’n’roll, and we all got through it.”
John insists there is “no room for negativity” and they want to ensure the shows are worth every penny paid by fans, some of whom forked out hundreds of pounds due to Ticketmaster’s controversial dynamic pricing system.
He added: “I’m singing and playing at the top of my game, and I know for a fact that’s where every other artist wants to be who’s involved in this. Liam, Noel, the band, know that it’s going to be a very positive vibe. There’s no room for negativity, and I already know that for everybody involved. It’s going to be a beautiful thing. All the bands are going to be rolling on seamlessly and it’s going to be electric.”
As well as Cast, former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft will be opening for Oasis in the UK and Ireland.

Gwen Stefani would love for No Doubt to play Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwen Stefani would love for No Doubt to play Glastonbury again.
The Ska group haven’t performed at the world-famous festival since 2002, but after their epic comeback at Coachella in US in April, which marked their first show since 2013, the frontwoman is hopeful fans won’t have as long to wait for the ‘Don’t Speak’ hitmakers to get back onstage and she is open to offers from Worthy Farm.
Speaking to NME about No Doubt’s future and how seamless their reunion was, she said: “It was like riding a bike – rehearsals were so fun. Just getting up there on the first weekend [of Coachella], my legs felt like jelly because of all the energy from the crowd. It felt like everything we’d ever done was being rewarded in that moment with love. Like, I could cry now talking about it.
“When that weekend was over, I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this again next weekend, because I don’t know how I can compete with that.’ But getting up there on the second weekend, it was a whole different kind of energy. The audience felt even more intense, and I felt more confident. It was like ‘let’s just be in the moment’ and it was incredible.”
Gwen – who has three sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale – admits being a mother takes up a lot of her time and she is also preparing to release her new solo album ‘Bouquet’ on November 15.
Quizzed on whether fans can expect more No Doubt shows, she continued: “I’m sure we’re gonna do something again at some point. It just has to be the right thing that makes sense [with] all of our schedules. It takes so much work to do a No Doubt thing – the rehearsals, everything. It’s really hard for me because – I know I keep saying it – but I have three kids. I don’t take that lightly; I don’t want to mess that up.”
Asked if she and her bandmates would like to return to Glasto in the UK, she said: “It was 2002? [the last time they played] That would have been ‘Rock Steady’ [era] – that was an amazing time, we were on fire! But yeah, Glastonbury would be amazing to do with No Doubt. I know people don’t sit around waiting for anything from me, but in my life there’s not even one minute to, like, drink a coffee – I’m so unbelievably busy all the time.
“But I’m sure if Glastonbury wanted us, they would email! I mean, we loved getting together to do a festival and I would definitely do it again with them. Meanwhile, I’m just super-excited about this new music and the fact I’ve landed on this sound. I feel like I’ve created this bouquet of everything I’ve been going through for the last, I guess, eight years.”

SHAB appointed Choose Love ambassador

OHMYGOSSIP — SHAB is “deeply honoured” to have been appointed as an ambassador for Choose Love.
The ‘Swerve’ singer – who fled Iran for the US as a young girl – has pledged to donate all profits from her upcoming album ‘One Suitcase’ to the charity, which is based in the UK and dedicated to supporting refugees around the world.
She said in a statement: “I am deeply honoured to serve as an ambassador for Choose Love, a cause that resonates with me on a personal level.
“As someone who has walked the path of a refugee, I know firsthand the challenges faced by displaced people around the world. I myself have been a refugee as well as a displaced person, having been forced by the circumstances of my homeland to seek a better life.
“When we choose to shelter the homeless and feed the hungry, such acts fulfil directives that cross both cultures and religions. I can tell you from my personal experience that where the need is so great, serving these people in such great deed is the most human of actions.
“To be a refugee is to carry the weight of loss, but also the strength of survival. It is an honour to help others in their darkest moments, for in extending a hand, we uphold the dignity of humanity and remind each other that hope and love still exists.
“Choose Love’s work goes beyond providing essential aid—it restores hope, dignity, and humanity. It is a privilege to represent a movement that believes in compassion without borders and supports those in need with unwavering kindness.”
Choose Love are “thrilled” to have SHAB on board and “so grateful” to her for agreeing to donate her album profits.
The organisation said in a statement: “We are thrilled that Shab has agreed to be an ambassador for Choose Love! Shab understands the lived experiences of many people we support first hand. She shines a light on the stories and humanity of people who have experienced forced displacement and we are so grateful that she will be supporting our work at Choose Love.
“We are honoured that she has decided to generously donate profits from her sophomore album to us. These funds will help to ensure that displaced people receive essential supplies and care when it’s most needed.”

DJ Joel Corry speaks out on the music industry following Liam Payne’s death: ‘It’s out of control’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Corry thinks the music industry is “out of control” in its present state.
The 35-year-old DJ wants fans to be conscious of the “pressure on artists” because it seems to get worse every year although he is not entirely sure what can be done to “rein” the issue in.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Awareness of the pressure on artists is a good thing, because every year it’s getting tougher and tougher out there.
“It’s tough, man, because you’re constantly looking at negative stuff being said about you. It is out of control in a way. But I’m not sure how that would ever get reined in.”
The ‘Head and Heart’ hitmaker had to make a few changes in his professional life after realising that he was suffering from “burnout” following a heavy touring schedule and really “struggles” with the industry amid the pressures of social media.
He added: “I got to a point where the touring was just so intense that you kind of do start to feel a bit of the burnout.
“I changed my management this year and I kind of made some changes. The music industry is a very high-pressure industry and I think now more than ever, especially with social media, the pressure on artists is really, really tough.
“I really struggle with the climate of today’s sort of music industry world.”
Joel was speaking out in the weeks following the death of former One Direction star Liam Payne – who passed away at the age of 31 after falling off a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires – and was “so shocked” to learn the tragic news.
He said: “I was out in Australia when I heard the news about Liam.
“I was so shocked. I was with Liam at Soccer Aid in the summer 2023 and he was such a big part of the team.”

The Who will ‘definitely’ return in 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — The Who will “definitely do something” in 2025.
The ‘My Generation’ group last toured in 2023 with a full orchestra and now guitarist Pete Townshend has confirmed he and singer Roger Daltrey recently met up to discuss plans to “make a mess” on stage again.
He told the Standard: “I met with Roger for lunch a couple of weeks ago. We’re in good form. We love each other. We’re both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year…
“The last big tours that we’ve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but we’re now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes.”
The 79-year-old rocker is keen to get back in the recording studio but his bandmate isn’t so eager to make a new record.
Pete said: “The album side of it… Roger’s not keen. But I would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that.”
In January, Roger suggested he had “moved on” from The Who.
Asked if there will be more from The Who, he told the Times newspaper: “I can’t answer that. I don’t write the songs. I never did. We [he and Townshend] need to sit down and have a meeting, but at the moment I’m happy saying that part of my life is over.”
And Pete later admitted he had been mainly “touring for the money” in recent years.
He told the New York Times newspaper: “I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with the Who. If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money. My idea of an ordinary lifestyle is pretty elevated.
“I’ve been immensely creative and productive throughout that period, but I haven’t felt the need to put it out.
“And if I can make it personal, I don’t care whether you like it or not. When ‘White City’ came out [in 1985] and the sales were so slow, I thought, ‘Screw this’. Nobody wanted me as I was — they wanted the old Pete.”
But he also teased there was a potential for a “final tour” that would take the group around the world before they called it a day.
He said: “It feels to me like there’s one thing the Who can do, and that’s a final tour where we play every territory in the world and then crawl off to die.”

New BBC Two documentary tells the story of Wham’s Last Christmas as iconic festive hit turns 40

OHMYGOSSIP — The 40th anniversary of Wham!’s festive classic ‘Last Christmas’ is set to be celebrated with the hour-long documentary, ‘WHAM!: Last Christmas Unwrapped’.
Set to air on BBC Two in December, the film will see Wham!’s Andrew Ridgeley, 61, return to Saas-Fee in Switzerland, where he and the late George Michael famously filmed the iconic music video for the 1984 Yuletide classic.
George – who died on Christmas Day in 2016 – will make an appearance through archive footage and photographs.
The mayor of Saas-Fee, who drove the pair around on the snowy set, will also be interviewed, as will the duo’s backing singers Pepsi DeMacque-Crockett and Shirlie Kemp of Pepsi and Shirlie fame.
Celebrities including Bob Geldof, Mary J Blige, Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant, and Sam Smith will also appear to discuss the enduring success of the beloved hit.
‘Last Christmas’ spent five consecutive weeks at number two in the UK singles chart, and was held off the top spot at Christmas by Geldof’s Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, which also featured George.
The song eventually reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on New Year’s Day 2021, more than 36 years after its initial release.
The tune has been covered by many artists over the years, including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Piper, and even CGI-animated amphibian and Eurodance icon Crazy Frog.
Andrew said: “It’s a privilege, 40 years on, to be able to have this opportunity to celebrate WHAM!’s wonderful and enduring musical homage to Christmas and I’m absolutely thrilled that WHAM! in partnership with The BBC will present this joyful and touching tribute to the nation this Christmas. Christmas was a special time of year for George and Christmas songs were a special type of song for him too and that was why he considered writing a Christmas classic one of the great achievements of his career. Only he will ever know quite what inspired him to such dizzying heights, but his songwriting genius led him to distil the quintessential essence of Christmas into a song whose breadth of appeal spans the generations. Revisiting Saas Fee, four decades on, with some of the closest friends of my youth was a very special experience and one which I know Yog would have loved to have shared in.”
George Michael Entertainment commented: “Last Christmas remains as iconic today as it was 40 years ago, continuing to capture the essence of Christmas with the same magic and emotion. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the song, a true testament to George Michael’s songwriting brilliance. A timeless holiday classic, it holds a place among the greatest Christmas songs ever written, resonating with listeners of all ages and inspiring new generations today as it did 40 years ago. As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we are proud to be involved in this heartfelt tribute to the song, the video, and those involved. It offers fans the chance to relive the magic and gain fresh insight into the making of this beloved masterpiece, allowing us to share its enduring legacy with the public and fans around the world.”
Jonathan Rothery, Head of Commissioning, BBC Pop Music TV, added: “Last Christmas is a flawless festive song that has stood the test of time. I’m delighted that the BBC is celebrating its 40th anniversary, who doesn’t want to spend an hour in the winter wonderland of WHAM! with George, Andrew, Pepsi and Shirlie?”

Liam Payne’s first posthumous song set to drop this week

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne’s first posthumous song will be released on Friday (01.11.24).
Before his tragic passing following a fatal fall from a hotel balcony on October 16, the One Direction star had been in the studio with Grammy winner Sam Pounds and the producer hopes their song, ‘Do No Wrong’, “eclipses the negative echoes” and provides some “healing power” for his loved ones and fans as they mourn the devastating loss of the 31-year-old pop star.
Sharing the track’s artwork, an angel with a broken heart above its head, on X/Twitter, Sam wrote: “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed. I pray angels will comfort you all everyday while listening. I pray that this song will be a blessing to [Liam’s sister] Ruth, [son] Bear, and the entire family. I pray that this song eclipses the negative echoes. I pray supernatural positive healing power will embrace each and every one of you… With love let’s all BE the blessing.”
Sam recently revealed to his Instagram followers that Liam was keen to get Chris Brown to feature on ‘Do Know Wrong’.
Liam had recorded a follow-up to his 2019 debut album ‘LP1’ but reports suggested the record was shelved after the first single ‘Teardrops’ failed to chart in March – and an insider recently claimed he was subsequently ditched by his label because bosses at Universal Music were concerned his new songs would fail to win over the pop band’s fan base.
A source told DailyMail.com: “Liam wanted to make the sort of music he enjoyed but his label believed it wouldn’t win over 1D fans so there were disagreements about the way his brand should have been marketed.
“The entire music industry is making cuts and restructuring to cut costs so Universal decided to drop Liam quietly and invest in other artists.”
The insider went on to add: “He didn’t need the money because he was wealthy, but yes it did hurt him because he was under constant pressure to compete with the other guys in the band.”
Liam previously opened up about his second solo album at a fan event and revealed all the songs told a story from his life.
He said: “This time, the scariest part is that every one of these songs is a story from my life. And they’re really close to me. I hope people feel that through every song, that I actually felt whatever it is you’re feeling right now listening to this.”
He added: “We’ve rewritten a lot of these songs based off the idea of where we’re going with this and also how I’m feeling as a person. “I used to show up to sing a song, then go. Absolutely not this time. We’re going to have fun with this.”

Olivia Rodrigo set to play Glastonbury 2025 as bosses want ‘more high-profile female’ stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Rodrigo is reportedly being lined up for Glastonbury.
The 21-year-old pop star made her debut at the Worthy Farm festival in 2022 – where she memorably performed alongside ‘Smile’ hitmaker Lily Allen – and is now said to have been invited to make a return.
A source told The Sun on Sunday’s Bizarre column: “Organisers are keen to get more high-profile female performers topping the bill after being criticised in the past for it being a male-heavy event.”
The festival is set to take place from at the end of June 2025, and the ‘vampire’ hitmaker is due to perform in the UK with her ‘Guts’ world tour around that time, but would be free for a Pyramid Stage show just days before her own show takes place.
Organiser Emily Eavis previously insisted that she was trying to “address” the supposed issue of equality at the festival, and wanted to incorporate more female performers into the event.
She said: “Unless you consciously change and address it, then it will stay the same.”
It was recently claimed that ‘Shivers’ singer Ed Sheeran, 33, was also in the running to take to the stage at the famous music event.
A source said: “Ed adores performing at Glastonbury and getting to sing to so many fans on a massive scale. He hasn’t got any big UK gigs lined up next summer, so this would be really special.
“He’s got loads of celebrity friends, so he is bound to have some famous collabs on stage with him if it comes off.”
The annual festival will take place from June 25 until June 29 2025, and in recent years has featured performers such as Shania Twain, Sir Elton John and Diana Ross.

Olivia Rodrigo hails Chappell Roan as an ‘inspiration’ to her in the music industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Rodrigo has hailed Chappell Roan as an “inspiration” to her.
The 21-year-old singer has struck up a close bond with ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ hitmaker Chappell, 26, who opened for her on her ‘Guts World Tour’, and is thankful for the exchanges they’ve had about surviving pop superstardom.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “It’s so funny that she said that because I actually feel the same about her. She’s taught me so much about artistry, and about being creative and how to take care of yourself on the road so honestly I’d ask her.
“She’s just so wonderful, she always reminds me that we’re constantly changing and you’re never stuck in one era for your whole life. You can always reinvent and be more creative, and do fun things. I love her so much, she’s an inspiration to me.”
The ‘good 4 u’ singer revealed that Chappell has given her “so much advice” on looking after herself in an industry that is often so “overwhelming” for her.
She told NME: “She actually gives me so much advice on taking care of myself and being me in an industry that’s so overwhelming sometimes. I really appreciate her. If I give her any advice, I’m not so sure. But I get a lot from her.”
Chappell recently revealed that Olivia had told her to “not read anything” that is written about herself after finding fame.
She told The Independent: “[She told me] Stop reading. Don’t read anything. I was just really struggling with the bullying online. I was going to reach out to Phoebe Bridgers and see what she was doing and I asked Olivia if she had talked to Billie [Eilish] or anything. People who are in similar circumstances.”

Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba ‘wouldn’t have a career’ without illegal download sites

OHMYGOSSIP — Dashboard Confessional frontman Chris Carrabba says he “wouldn’t have a career” without the illegal music download sites of the noughties.
The emo band formed in 1999 and scored a number two in the US with their 2003 LP ‘A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar’, and although singer Chris, 49, acknowledges that music piracy sites such as Napster and LimeWire were bad for business for many, but he also believes that his music wouldn’t have been heard by the masses if they didn’t exist.
Taking part in NBC News Studios’ ‘My Generation’, he said: “There’s no question Napster affected the record industry, and it was a negative effect in a lot of ways, but not for me.
“My records came out on a small label. It had limited distribution. If you had found out about my band, there wasn’t any place you could go get my music if you wanted to.
“If it hadn’t been for people having had a way to share my music, I wouldn’t have a career of any kind.”
On what led to the resurgence of emo in the 2000s, he added: “The emo scene came up from a need to dig deeper inside yourself.
“Young people, you’re suddenly grappling with a world that is now changed forever.”
Dashboard released their ninth studio album, ‘All The Truth That I Can Tell’, in 2022, their first in four years.
The ‘Screaming Infidelities’ hitmakers have inspired a whole host of bands, including pop punk group Busted, who got Chris to feature on a new version of their track ‘Everything I Knew’ on their 2023 ‘Greatest Hits 2.0’ collection.
Busted’s Charlie Simpson previously told Kerrang!: “We were really excited about that one because we don’t really have a connection to [Chris Carrabba] – it was just like, ‘Send it to him and see what he says.’ We’re the biggest Dashboard fans, and we were so excited about that one.”

The Zutons to honour Amy Winehouse on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge this week

OHMYGOSSIP — The Zutons will honour Amy Winehouse by covering the late star’s 2006 hit ‘Back To Black’ and ‘Valerie’ on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
The ‘Rehab’ hitmaker – who died at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning in 2011 – famously had a hit with Mark Ronson in 2007 with the indie band’s noughties tune and they will come “full circle” by performing ‘Valerie’ and their own rendition of ‘Back to Black’ when they appear on BBC Radio 1 this week.
The Zutons’ upcoming appearance on the youth radio station’s popular live segment on Wednesday (30.10.24) comes after Amy’s cover was crowned best Live Lounge performance of all time.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, the Dave McCabe-fronted group said: “We were blown away to hear that Amy’s brilliant version of Valerie was voted the number one Live Lounge cover of all time.
“But then she was such an amazing artist with that incredible voice that it shouldn’t really be any surprise at all.
“It’s a real honour and fills us with pride, and the fact we’re going to be on Radio 1 doing a cover of hers is like a full circle moment.
“Hopefully we can do it justice.”
Dave previously admitted Amy’s cover of ‘Valerie’ was a “gift from God”.
The 43-year-old star was grateful the song kept his band relevant while they were on hiatus.
He told Radio X: “The way I see it, it was like a gift from God, and I was there to receive it.
“The band was there to receive it… and some people are like, ‘Were you [annoyed] when she took your song?’ And I was like, ‘Well not really, because she just immortalised the whole thing.’ Do you know what I mean? Because it was a big song anyway, but that just took it to this whole new level.
“I think it’s in the Top 10 of karaoke songs. I’ve walked past boozers, and you can hear people singing it and it’s like, we wrote that in that little room in town and here it is now. I don’t have any bad feeling about it. I did for a bit because people would ask you about money all the time. […] That’s what I’d ask if I was in the other person’s shoes, so yeah, it has made life easier and no it doesn’t do my head in.
“At the time it did my head in because we made a pretty weak third album after it and no one was asking about the songs on that, do you know what I mean? It’s just one of those songs though. It’s its own entity. It’s in the ether.”

The Maccabees confirm reunion show at All Points East 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — The Maccabees are reuniting for their first concert in eight years at All Points East.
Orlando Weeks and co will headline the East London festival series at Victoria Park on Sunday 24 August 2025 to mark the 10th anniversary of their acclaimed debut album ‘Marks To Prove It’.
The ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ group – who recently sent fans into a frenzy when they unveiled a new logo on social media – bid farewell with three sold-out nights at London’s Alexandra Palace in 2017.
However, they reunited for a special performance of their hit ‘Pelican’ at guitarist Hugo White’s wedding in 2020.
Orlando insisted: “I didn’t go because it was The Maccabees playing together again, but because it was a beautiful gesture to be invited and to contribute to the spirit of the day. What I wanted, band aside, was to find a way to be in each other’s lives in some way.’’
The decision to host their reunion at All Points East comes after Hugo was inspired by The Strokes’ headlining set last year.
He said: “I could see that they were enjoying it, realising how great what they had created together was. Being a band, you are usually in a mindset of, ‘We can do better’ and you’re always chasing something else. This is an opportunity to realise that whatever we had in that moment was pretty special and get to enjoy it again. It’s a chance to appreciate everything, and especially how it impacts other people and created a community.”
Guitarist and piano player Felix White – who completes the line-up alongside Rupert Jarvis and Sam Doyle – admits that as regular attendees of APE, they never imagined they’d get to play it, let alone headline and curate the line-up for their day.
He added: “In the intervening years we’ve been to All Points East a lot, separately. It’s become a bit of a landmark festival for us, always checking who’s on the line-up. I’d go and have a great time throughout the day, but there was always this pinch of regret watching headliners that we could’ve done it ourselves one day too. I thought that moment had passed, and it was something I was prepared to come to terms with that I was always going to miss. Rag’n’Bone Man and Bananarama set for Hampton Court Palace Festival 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag’n’Bone Man and Bananarama have been added to the line-up for Hampton Court Palace Festival 2025.
The ‘Human’ hitmaker and ’80s pop legends – whose hits include ‘Cruel Summer’, ‘Venus’, ‘Love in the First Degree’, and ‘Robert De Niro’s Waiting…’ – are among the acts playing the historic Base Court of the Palace on Thursday 12 June and Saturday 14 June, respectively.
It marks a busy summer for the former, who is also headlining Forest Live at the Forestry England High Lodge, Thetford on 18 June 2025, among other dates across the UK.
Elbow are also set to rock Hampton Court Palace next summer, not once, but twice.
Guy Garvey and co were recently confirmed as the first headliners of the popular summer extravaganza, with the ‘One Day Like This’ group set to play the Tudor landmark on June 20.
And now, an additional date has been added on June 21, due to phenomenal demand.
Frontman Guy remarked: “For summer ’25, we’re revisiting venues we’ve truly cherished and exploring some towns and cities we’ve missed over the years. There’s unparalleled joy in spending an evening with long-standing friends.”
Earlier this year, the BRIT Award-winning group unveiled their 10th studio album, ‘Audio Vertigo,’ which became Elbow’s fourth chart-topping album in the UK.
Guy discussed their conscious decision to avoid composing songs about the world’s “troubling” issues for their more optimistic record.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “We live in a troubling age. And I started writing my feelings on many issues, but I thought, not only do I not want to finish this, but I also don’t want to listen to it.
“Everybody’s on the same page in terms of fear and division and whatever side of whatever argument you’re on, everyone’s frightened and angry. The album is distracting from, rather than reflecting all the things that everybody is worried about.”
The 50-year-old vocalist also humorously noted that touring has become more challenging now that he’s in his fifties.
He quipped: “Controlling my booze consumption worries me far more than the performances. And also sleeping on tour buses with our 50-year-old bodies — I might need a back crack after a few days.
“No, we are buzzing. These are really exciting songs and we can’t wait to play them live. We haven’t played for a year and a half, so playing the old stuff, will be something too. We just can’t wait.”
Tickets for the newly announced acts will be available via pre-sale from Wednesday 30 October, with general sale taking place from Friday 1 November, whilst tickets for Elbow’s second show are on sale now via www.hamptoncourtpalacefestival.com.

Cast confirmed to support Oasis on UK and Ireland leg of reunion tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis have confirmed Cast as an opening act for their upcoming reunion tour.
After John Power and co joined frontman Liam Gallagher on his ‘Definitely Maybe’ arena tour this summer and a recent report suggesting the fellow Britpop rockers would be joining the ‘Wonderwall group on their sold-out ‘Oasis Live ‘25′ tour next year, the rumour has been proven true, with Cast joining Richard Ashcroft on the UK and Ireland leg of the mammoth jaunt.
Frontman John, who guitarist Noel Gallagher once hailed “as cosmic as the day is long”, said: “I’m blown away at the reunion. Oasis are the voice of a generation and the songs that they wrote and sung were and still are the soundtrack to many people’s dreams. They are the people’s band.”
He continued: “I’ve known Noel and Liam all through the years, we go way back. It’s been some ride, some journey. I’ve felt and known their music personally, as a fan. It inspired me as songwriter, it blew the whole scene open like nothing before and it reached way beyond the stratosphere. Everything changed. We were all part of that and we will all be part of this. I’m especially looking forward to revisiting my family’s Irish roots when the tour hits Dublin. Let the opening chords shimmer and shine next July.”
Their adoration for one another goes way back, with Liam having been a huge fan of John’s previous band The La’s.
Cast supported Oasis – who haven’t performed live since 2009, due to a long-standing feud between formerly estranged siblings Liam and Noel – numerous times, including at Knebworth in 1996.
Former Verve frontman Richard also has a long history with Oasis – and his wild 1990s antics were the inspiration behind Oasis’ 1995 song ‘Cast No Shadow’.
The ‘Oasis Live ‘25’ tour’ kicks off at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on July 4 and includes seven nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ hitmakers will be supported in North America by US rock band Cage the Elephant.
The global run will also take in Australia and Mexico.
