Maxïmo Park announce new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Maxïmo Park have announced their sixth studio album ‘Risk To Exist’.
The ‘Apply Some Pressure’ rockers first album since 2014’s Top 10 record ‘Too Much Information’ is a politically-charged record filled with “great pop melodies” about the state of the “British nation” and the dire state of world affairs last year.
Frontman Paul Smith said: ‘The album is, ultimately, about empathy. Some songs are simple messages of solidarity and others are fuelled by anger at the elitist, established order of British society. There’s a questioning of power throughout and a feeling that there must be a different way of structuring our society in order to alleviate inequality.
“Musically, the songs reflect more soulful and groove-based influences, allowing more space in the arrangements than ever before. The central idea is to align great pop melodies with songs that reflect the state of the nation.”
2014’s Top 10 ‘Too Much Information’.
The indie rock group – also comprised of Duncan Lloyd Archis Tiku, Lukas Wooller and Tom English – recruited Mimi Parker from acclaimed US band Low for the record, who recorded the vocals on five of the album’s tracks, including lead single ‘Risk To Exist’.
Asked if the track is a good indicator of what to expect from the rest of the record, Paul told Radio X: “Not really. It’s a bit of a red herring, but we wanted something that bridged what we’d done before with what’s on the album.”
‘Risk To Exist’ is released on April 21.
The ‘Risk To Exist’ tracklisting is as follows:
01. ‘What Did We Do To You To Deserve This?’
02. ‘Get High (No, I Don’t)’
03. ‘What Equals Love?’
04. ‘Risk to Exist’
05. ‘I’ll Be Around’
06. ‘Work And Then Wait’
07. ‘The Hero’
08. ‘The Reason I Am Here’
09. ‘Make What You Can’
10. ‘Respond To The Feeling’
11. ‘Alchemy’

Kesha's new rock sound

OHMYGOSSIP — Kesha is working on a rock album.
The ‘Tik Tok’ singer has teamed up with superstar producer Ricky Reed – who is known for his work with Jason Derulo and Twenty One Pilots – on some “gritty” tunes.
Sharing a picture on Instagram to give fans an insight into their session at his Elysian Park studios, he wrote: “When I first met Kesha I was blown away by her vision for what she wants this album to be.
“She is one of the most unflinching authentic rock and rollers we’ve had grace the halls of Elysian Park.
“So when she asked for something gritty I knew I had to give her the rudest tone I could dig up.
“Enter my Travis Bean (look it up) and vintage AC4.
“My shoulder is covering the pedal where the added fuzz is coming from. That one stays with me. Chime in our grittiest combinations (sic)”
The 29-year-old pop beauty recently shared a picture in the studio with American rock band Eagles of Death Metal, which has led fans to believe she is collaborating on something rocky.
Kesha is fully focused on relaunching her music career after dropping her lawsuit against Dr. Luke – who she claimed sexually assaulted her – and fulfilling her contractual obligations to the producer’s label Kemosabe by submitting 28 new songs.
Kesha’s last track, ‘True Colors’, was recorded with Zedd and came out after a judge ruled she could not be released from her recording contract with Dr. Luke.
She signed a contract with Dr. Luke – who has denied all the allegations of abuse – for five albums in 2005 and has so far released just two, with the most recent, ‘Warrior’, coming out in 2012.
Until she delivered her final three LPs, Kesha could have remained locked in the contract for life.
Although she has now submitted the required 28 songs, the studio wizard – whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald – may not necessarily release them, if they are not deemed commercially satisfactory.
However, Kesha and her team could provide any failure to make the tracks available as proof Sony and Luke are refusing to release her music.

Céline Dion records 'original' song for Beauty and the Beast remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Céline Dion will perform an “all new original song” for the upcoming ‘Beauty and the Beast’ movie.
The 48-year-old singer famously sang a version of the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme song for the soundtrack of the original 1991 animated Disney feature, and has now revealed she will once again lend her voice to the franchise with a new track ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever’, which will appear in the upcoming live-action remake.
Taking to Facebook on Thursday (19.01.17) to share the news, Céline wrote: “I am thrilled to announce that I’ll be performing an all-new original song, ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever’, for Disney’s live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Being a part of the original film was such a magical experience in my life, and I’m truly honored to be a part of this film again. – Céline (sic)”
And whilst the ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker is busy recording her own music for the soundtrack, the task of creating a revamped version of the theme song – which was originally performed by Angela Lansbury before being recorded by Céline – has fallen to Ariana Grande and John Legend.
Meanwhile, ‘Harry Potter’ actress Emma Watson will also be singing as part of her starring role as Belle, something which she previously admitted she was nervous about.
Emma explained that whilst she was “excited” to be given the iconic part, she was nervous about lending her voice to the role because she’s been out of practice for so long.
She said: “It’s so crazy. I was so excited. It was nerve-wracking for me because I’ve sung as a child in plays and I loved it, but I just hadn’t done it in such a long time, it was like learning to ride a bike again.”
‘Beauty and the Beast’ is expected to hit theatres in March.

Wayne Coyne on 'crazy and smart' Miley Cyrus

OHMYGOSSIP — The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne says Miley Cyrus is “just as crazy” as him.
The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer has teamed up with the American rock band on the track ‘We A Family’ from their new album, ‘Oczy Mlody’, and although they share very similar personality traits, the 56-year-old rocker says they never clash and even if they did he’d always let Miley win because she is “so smart”.
Talking about the 24-year-old pop beauty – who is engaged to ‘Hunger Games’ star Liam Hemsworth – Coyne told The Sun newspaper: “She’s just so smart, she really is.
“I mean she is crazy as well.
“She really does love to sing and she loves to hear herself sing and she talks and talks
“It’s amazing if you get her on a role.”
Asked if their egos ever clash, he said: “No, but if we ever did, I would allow her to win because I’d be thinking, ‘This is going to be cool.'”
The ‘Bad Days’ rocker admits without sharing a love for the same music and being hard working they’d probably struggle to work together.
He told The Sun newspaper: “She’ll pick any song just because she likes it so on that level, we have similar taste. Without that, we’d always be struggling.
“We also have a similar work ethic. I’m always the first to say, ‘Let’s go do this’, and she’s the same.
“Together we get things done.”
Coyne believes growing up with a musical family, her country music legend father Billy Ray Cyrus, 55, Metro Station rocker brother Trace, 27, and her 16-year-old sister Noah, who recently released her debut single ‘Make Me (Cry)’, has given Miley a broader sense of musical genres.
Talking about her famous father, Coyne said: “Her dad Billy Ray Cyrus is a cool dude.
“I don’t know that much about his music, but if you’re around him, he’s a cool guy and she absolutely knows all music. She’s got it.”

Stereophonics finish album 10?

OHMYGOSSIP — Stereophonics have hinted that they’ve finished working on their 10th studio album.
The ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ hitmakers have taken to Instagram to share a picture of frontman Kelly Jones, 42, holding his guitar with the caption, “Album 10”, and a green tick emoji, suggesting they’ve completed the record.
The new LP is to mark their 20th anniversary as a band and follows 2015’s chart-topper ‘Keep the Village Alive’.
Giving an update last July, Kelly said: “We’ve pretty much finished the 10th album. We’ll start mixing it on September 6, when the tour’s finished. I’d like to bring it out next summer or springtime if possible.”
And the Welsh singer is adamant their collection won’t be like any other band – who tend to regurgitate their hits for anniversary victory laps.
Speaking previously bout their plans to mark the 20 years since their debut LP ‘Word Gets Around’ was released, he explained: “I wouldn’t want to do that with a bunch of memorabilia and B-sides. I want to keep the band moving forward.”
Kelly is hoping the record will be released this spring.
He previously said: “We’ll start mixing it this September when the tour’s finished and I’d like to bring it out next summer, or spring time if possible.
“If it all works out well we’ll be releasing our 10th studio album in our 20th year.”
Stereophonics made their first appearance in the music world with ‘Word Gets Around’ but it was their second album ‘Performance and Cocktails’ in 1999 that catapulted them into the limelight with their singles ‘The Bartender and the Thief’, ‘Pick a Part That’s New’ and ‘Just Looking’.

Nick Jonas' late night inspiration

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Jonas gets inspired to write music in his sleep.
The ‘Jealous’ hitmaker always has the songwriting side of his brain switched on and has recalled a particular time when he was greatly inspired in the middle of the night.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Called some friends up last night. Told them I woke up inspired … and that I needed their help to bring the music I was hearing in my head to life.
“This incredible group of musicians did just that. Love this shot taken by @jessedacri at the end of the night. Glass of wine as I listened to what we made (sic)”
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old singer previously admitted he thinks his sexual experiences have made him into a better pop star.
He explained: “Any time I approach writing a song I think about the fact that since I started having sex my creative life changed dramatically, and my ability to write a song with more genuine depth, more reality.
“Sexuality is important as an artist, to embrace and use it as ammunition in your creative life, and understanding that part of your life, and how it makes you feel.”
Nick found fame as part of the Jonas Brothers with his siblings Joe and Kevin and recently admitted he is always looking for an “opportunity” to show people who he really is.
He shared: “I think the thing that we’re both looking at is that this is an opportunity to show people where we are now. And if there’s an awareness of our friendship, that’s great but I don’t think that we’re assuming anything of anybody.
“I think that the key is for us to really give people that are fans a look into this next chapter and where we want to go in the future. And people that maybe aren’t as familiar that just wanted to come out to the show and see what it’s all about, to really show them who Demi and I are and make that the focus of this show.”

Gorillaz release first song in six years

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorillaz have surprised fans by releasing their first song in six years.
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s animated band have dropped anti Donald Trump song ‘Hallelujah Money’, featuring Mercury Prize-winning artist Benjamin Clementine, and have shared that they are still working on their much-anticipated fifth studio album.
It comes the night before the US President-Elect’s Presidential Inauguration at The White House on Friday (20.01.17).
Sharing an article to the video of their first new music since 2011’s ‘The Fall’ on their Twitter, they wrote: “Dark times – u need someone to look up to. Me. Here’s a lightning bolt of truth in a black night. Now p**s on! New stuff won’t write itself (sic)”
The ‘Feel Good Inc’ hitmakers launched a new Instagram account and website in September and the first post on the photo-sharing app was about their old EP and 2000’s ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’ from their self-titled debut LP.
The post read: “Tomorrow Comes Today. The 4 track EP which first unleashed Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and 2D onto an unsuspecting world. Released in 2000. (sic)”
The lyrics include: “I have thought that the best way to protect our tree is by building walls.”
The group – which features the characters Murdoc, 2D, Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs – also posted a picture of the words “THE END … until next time (sic)” on their Twitter page, with many fans believing it was a cryptic message about their new record.
Blur frontman Damon has been recording fresh material since last September, and recently hinted that he might use songs Adele, 28, rejected on the new record.
When asked if he plans on using material recorded with the ‘Hello’ hitmaker, he said: “I never waste anything.”
It was recently revealed that De La Soul have worked on a song for the record along with Snoop Dogg.
The virtual band was conceived by Damon, 38, and visual artist Jamie, also 38, in 1998.
None of the personas are reflective of the real life musicians involved in the project.
Over the years a number of guest singers have worked with Gorillaz including Shaun Ryder – whose track ‘DARE’ was the group’s only UK number one – Mod Def and Gruff Rhys.

Run the Jewels' music inspired by d**k jokes

OHMYGOSSIP — Run the Jewels have admitted they get lyric inspiration from d*** jokes.
The popular hip-hop supergroup – comprised of Killer Mike and EI-P – often find the themes for their songs after sharing crude jokes with one and other.
Producer El-P, 41 – whose real name is Jaime Meline – told NME magazine: “I’m not doing my job unless I can look over at Mike and he literally shakes his head in his hands and says, ‘What the f*** did you just say?'”
Mike added: “When you’re sitting at a table and you hear a guy say, ‘I’ve got a unicorn horn for a c***’, to me that’s when you walk out of the room like, ‘yo, I got to step it up!’ “The imagination it takes to come up with something like that! I still think of the moment he said that and chuckle.”
Mike, also 41, says being open to nonsense is what makes their records represent the “full human experience”.
He explained: “I’ve seen people question, ‘How can you guys be funny, not-give-a-s***, braggedy-brag rap, and then a few [songs] behind that have thoughts, concerns and social commentary?’ It amazes me, because I’m like, I thought that was the full human experience! If you hang out with your friends through the course of a day, you guys are going to laugh, talk s***, get drunk, remember some s*** you didn’t like, fight, make up, talk about how f***ed up politics is, get high … To me, our records are about the full human experience.”
Meanwhile, the American rappers have shared their opinion on Donald Trump taking over as President of the United States.
EI-P admits that while it is “deadly and dangerous”, he is also “morbidly amused” that the Republican will be in power at The White House.
He said: “As a guy who grew up on dystopian science fiction you can’t help but be morbidly amused. It’s scary but hilarious, in a f***ed-up way. It’s the folly of man. It’s also incredibly dangerous and deadly. The stakes themselves make the gallows humour that much more potent. But that’s me. If I had an executioner’s gun to the back of my head and he farted, I’d laugh.”
Mike added: “I’ve watched every inauguration since Reagan. But this is the first time the President is gonna be sitting there tweeting: ‘I told y’all, fools.'”

Lars Ulrich 'less and less' inspired by bands nowadays

OHMYGOSSIP — Lars Ulrich has been “less and less” inspired by other bands in the last three decades.
The Metallica drummer hasn’t been a fan of many fellow rock bands since the likes of Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses and Oasis, with only a hand few of bands having an “impact” on him.
The 53-year-old rocker is hoping to be “slapped in the face” and blown away by new emerging talent, although he is doubtful as it hasn’t been happening for a long time.
In an interview with Noisey, he admitted: “10 years ago or 30 years ago, it was different.
“Like, ‘Oh my god Guns N’ Roses, oh my god who are these Nirvana guys! Oasis!’
“You were hearing about it, and you wanted to meet them.
“Nowadays, there aren’t any bands that have had that impact on me.
“The last time where I was like, ‘Holy f***! This really inspires me’, was this band called Sword from Austin, Texas.
“Stoner rock, kind of a modern Black Sabbath.
“Super cool. They showed up seven or eight years ago, and I just had to bring these guys on tour. There is Norwegian band called Kvelertak These bands are few and far between nowadays.
“This is not a black and white statement. I know more about film than I do about music because I follow it more.
“That doesn’t mean if something awesome came and slapped me in the face then I wouldn’t embrace it, it just shows up less and less.”
Metallica – also comprised of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo – are gearing up for their extensive world tour in support of their album ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’, which kicks off on January 20 in Hong Kong, China.
Lars has revealed the band have a “two-week rule” where they go home to seen their children every two weeks throughout the tour to keep them “sane”.
The ‘Nothing Else Matters’ hitmaker – who has Bryce, nine, Layne, 15, and Myles, 18, from previous relationships – explained: “We have a two-week rule: we don’t leave home for more two weeks at a time, 16 days at the most.
“We did 180 dates on the last album in two week increments.
“It’s not the most cost effective way of touring the world, but we believe you can’t put any price on sanity.
“If you remain somewhat sane, then there’s a better chance of finishing all the shows and not jumping off the deep end in despair and misery.”

Robbie Williams confirmed for BRITs performance

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams is to perform at the 2017 BRIT Awards.
The ‘I Love My Life’ hitmaker – who has daughter Teddy, four, and son Charlton, two, with his wife Ayda Field – has already bagged himself the BRITs Icon Award and now he will perform at the prestigious awards ceremony at London’s The O2 on February 22 along with Little Mix, The 1975 and Emeli Sandé.
The 42-year-old singer – who holds the record for the most BRITs ever, having bagged an impressive 18 prizes – said: “I’m delighted to be performing at the BRITs once again.
“It’s always a special night for music – this year feels like a big one.”
BRITs Chairman Jason Iley added: “We are excited to welcome back Robbie Williams to the BRITs stage as he has become part of the awards history. He’s a world-class live performer who never disappoints!”
Meanwhile, bosses are currently on the hunt for a new host for the bash as Michael Bublé was forced to pull out so he can be with his three-year-old son Noah, who is currently battling cancer.
A source said: “It was a difficult call but Michael has decided to pull out of hosting the BRIT Awards. Out of respect for Michael the producers gave him as much time as he needed to make the decision, which they completely understood.
“He would have put a unique stamp on the night so it’s a real shame, but at the moment his priority is his family. They are exploring other options now about who will take his place and a number of people have thrown their hat in the ring. No matter who they pick it will be an incredible night.”
A replacement is yet to be confirmed, but Emma Willis – who presented the launch show, ‘The BRITs Are Coming’, is a favourite to take over from the ‘Feeling Good’ singer.
This year’s nominations sees the most diverse shortlist to date, with Little Mix having received three nominations, leading the way alongside Skepta, who has the same amount.
David Bowie, The 1975, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka, Calvin Harris, James Arthur, Clean Bandit, Jonas Blue, Tinie Tempah and Coldplay all have two nods each.

Sir Paul McCartney suing Sony over Beatles ownership

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney is suing Sony over the ownership of several Beatles songs.
The 74-year-old musician gained worldwide fame as a member of the Beatles, alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, and is now taking legal action against the multinational conglomerate in a bid to win back the rights to several of the songs he wrote.
The songs – which, according to TMZ.com include the hits ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, ‘Love Me Do’, and ‘All You Need Is Love’ – were famously bought by the late Michael Jackson when he forked out $41.5 million for them in 1985.
Last year, the Jackson Estate sold its stake in the collection – known as The Beatles ATV Music catalogue – to Sony and ATV Music Publishing for a whopping $750 million.
Paul will legally reacquire the rights to the tracks in 2018, but the legal action comes after it was reported that Sony had not confirmed whether they intend to surrender the rights without dispute.
In a statement obtained by Pitchfork magazine, a spokesperson for Paul said: “Paul McCartney has today filed a lawsuit in federal court in New York against Sony/ATV to confirm his ownership in his US reversionary copyrights, which are granted to him by US copyright law, in the songs he wrote with John Lennon and recorded with The Beatles. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and bears the case no. 17cv363.”
Full details of the conditions of Paul’s lawsuit are not yet known.

Azealia Banks wants to perform at Donald Trump's Presidential Inauguration

OHMYGOSSIP — Azealia Banks would love to perform at Donald Trump’s Presidential Inauguration.
The 70-year-old billionaire is poised to replace Barack Obama as the US President and although numerous stars have rejected the chance to appear at the historic event, Azealia has admitted she would relish the opportunity.
Expressing her disappointment with the line-up, she wrote on Facebook: “Saw the entertainment line for the inauguration it made me very upset.
“This is an EPIC moment in modern history and it should def be celebrated in style. I would love to perform at the inauguration. (sic)”
In recent weeks, the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Church and Moby have all publicly rejected invitations to perform, while Jennifer Holliday and The B Street Band have also pulled out of the event on Friday (20.01.17).
By contrast, President Obama’s first Inauguration in 2009 saw a host of big-name celebrities attend the event, including Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington and Beyonce.
Meanwhile, Azealia – who is known for her outspoken nature – recently caused a stir on social media when she posted an unpleasant video in which she claimed to sacrifice chickens for witchcraft.
Azealia said: “The amount of crap that’s about to come off my floor right now, guys, oh my god. Three years’ worth of brujeria. Yes, you know, I gotta scrape all this s**t up.
“Real witches do real things. Blood stains the wall (sic).”
This sparked outrage from fellow musician Sia, who urged Azealia to change her ways and start being “awesome, kind and working hard”.
Sia tweeted: “Sacrificing animals for your gain is the wackest s**t I’ve ever heard. Get ahead by being awesome, kind and working hard (sic).”
But Azealia didn’t take too kindly to the comment and blasted the ‘Cheap Thrills’ vocalist as a “pompous white b***h”.
