U2 to play new songs whilst on Joshua Tree anniversary tour?

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 are hoping to premiere “one or two songs” from their upcoming album whilst on their ‘Joshua Tree’ anniversary tour.
The rock band – comprised of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. – are set to embark on a celebratory tour of their 1987 album ‘The Joshua Tree’ as it turns 30 this summer, and have said they are hoping to perform some new material from their upcoming record ‘Songs of Experience’ if they feel the songs “work well” with the rest of the show.
Bassist Adam Clayton said: “It would be very much my wish that we could play something from ‘Experience’ as part of the show, maybe one or two songs.
“Again, I caution that by saying we really have to see the arc of this show and we have to figure out whether those ‘Experience’ songs would work well in a stadium in this context, but I’d love to see some of that material out there and people being familiar with it before the album comes out.”
The 56-year-old ‘With or Without You’ rocker also offered fans of the band an update as to when their new album is to be expected, saying it needs to be “polished off” but should be ready by the end of the year.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “We all very much feel like it needs to be the end of this year. It’s not on any schedule anywhere, anything like that. We’re going to get back to that later this year and polish it off and finish it off a bit more. But we think we’re there with it.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Beautiful Day’ hitmakers announced last week they were having trouble picking the tracks that will make the final cut, as they have too much material to work with.
Adam said:” We’ve an abundance of great ideas and it’s really about identifying what to finish and how to finish it.”
Whilst The Edge added: “That’s the gift and the curse of this record.
“The ordeal is getting all four members to agree on the same dozen songs.”

Frank Turner feels inspired to write by Donald Trump

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Turner has been inspired to write new music by Donald Trump’s US Presidential triumph.
The 35-year-old singer-songwriter has revealed that although he already has a “mountain” of new tracks to release, he also feels a need to react to recent events, including Trump’s election triumph.
He explained to NME: “I’ve got a mountain of new material at the moment but I have two reservations about it.
“The first being that I feel ‘Positive Songs …’ felt like a sort of conclusionary statement. It wasn’t written that way, but looking back on it feels like that’s me wrapping up a certain era of my songwriting.
“Another way of saying it is I feel like I have the opportunity to go somewhere new and somewhere different at this point, so I’m thinking about doing something reasonably radically different next time round, but we’ll see.
“And of course, [since Trump won the election] I’ve been thinking about trying to react to the world as it is in 2016 perhaps a bit more openly in my art.”
Meanwhile, Frank has also announced he will be opening for Blink-182 during their upcoming UK tour.
The pop-punk band are poised to tour the UK in July and Frank has confirmed he will support Blink-182 at all dates with his own band The Sleeping Souls.
He announced the news via his Facebook account, revealing he is “very pleased” to be a special guest for the “mighty Blink-182” on their upcoming tour.
The band are set to play in ten cities around the UK, with performances scheduled for venues such as The O2 Arena in London and The SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

Jay Z sells 33% stake in Tidal

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Z has sold a 33 per cent stake in his streaming site Tidal.
Telecoms company Sprint has forked out an estimated $200 million for the hefty share of the ‘Empire State Of Mind’s company.
It will mean that Jay Z will make an impressive return on the initial $56 million he invested into the company when he purchased Tidal – which also has the likes of his wife Beyonce, Madonna, Rihanna, Daft Punk and Kanye West on the director’s board – from Aspiro two years ago.
At the time of the acquisition, the 47-year-old rapper spoke about the importance of not “devaluing music”.
He said: “People are not respecting the music, and devaluing what it really means. People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water. You can drink water free out of the tap and it’s good water. But they’re OK paying for it. It’s just the mindset right now.”
Whilst Alicia Keys added: “Our mission goes beyond commerce, it goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music’s importance in our lives. Music is the language of love, of laughter, of heartbreak, of mystery. It’s the world’s true, true, without question, universal language.”
When Tidal was first unveiled, it was criticised by a number of stars including Noel Gallagher, The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers and Mumford and Sons.
However, Madonna came out in support of the brand, insisting it was just the beginning for the streaming service.
She said: “It’s important that people understand we didn’t create Tidal, we didn’t put this together, we didn’t all join forces because we’re broke and we want more money.
“The idea is we want to support other artists and we want people to understand this is our heart, this is our work, and we want people to recognize that and we want other artists to have a chance.”

Mariah Carey's break up track

OHMYGOSSIP — Mariah Carey has penned a break up track following her split from James Packer.
The ‘Without You’ hitmaker reportedly recorded the song and an accompanying music video with YG over the weekend, in which she documents her split from the Australian billionaire.
TMZ reports that the song was recorded within 24 hours and it is expected to be shared with fans during the season finale of her E! reality show ‘Mariah’s World’ this weekend.
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old singer – who is currently dating back up dancer Bryan Tanaka – is busy working at the moment on a “secret project” amongst other things.
Her manager Stella Bulochnikov said recently: “We have a secret project. We do have a scripted drama that we are developing that has not been announced about Mariah’s life that’s going to be incredibly poignant …
“We’ll hopefully do, you know, holiday movies with them, and the first of which we were supposed to do this February, but of course we have this tour, so we had to push it. But we’ll get a good movie out to the public.”
And Mariah – who has twins Moroccan and Monroe, five, with her ex-husband Nick Cannon – is also keen to do a second series of reality show ‘Mariah’s World’.
Asked if Mariah would do a second series of the show, Stella added: “We’ll see. We’ve got a really strong team around us of good people. We support each other and love each other, and it’s going to stay that way in the New Year. We’re like a travelling family.”
In her personal life, Mariah couldn’t be more loved up with Bryan Tanaka.
The pair recently stepped out together in Mayfair, London after dining at posh eatery Nobu together with Mariah’s daughter Monroe.

Elastica to make a comeback?

OHMYGOSSIP — Elastica are believed to be making a music comeback.
The British indie rockers could be set to reform as they have been in the studio together in London working on a new project.
Abbey Road Studios’ mastering engineer Sean Magee took to his Twitter account to reveal he had been working with some members of the group and had “cut a record” with them.
His tweet read: “Cut a record for Elastica today, they hadn’t seen each other for 20yrs. It’s great to be there when moments like that happen. (sic)”
A number of pictures from the studio have also emerged on social media of the band without singer Justine Frischmann – who famously was in a relationship with Blur frontman Damon Albarn.
The band split up in 2001 after two albums, 1995’s indie classic ‘Elastica’ and 2000’s ‘The Menace’, and despite their low output are considered to be among the pioneers of Britpop.
And although it is yet to be confirmed if the group will be releasing new music or working on other stuff, it doesn’t look as though Justine will be returning to the band after she previously revealed making music felt like a “rollercoaster” to her.
Since the split, Justine, 47, has retreated from the public spotlight and has been creating art, only returning to music in 2003 to co-write two songs for her former flatmate M.I.A. for her debut LP ‘Arular’, which was eventually released in 2005.
She previously said: “I really feel I’ve found my medium [with painting]. Also I think I’m a socially anxious person. I kind of deal with it but actually I’m really happy on my own. When I’m in the studio and things are unfolding and exciting I have that feeling that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. I don’t think I ever really had that with music, it always felt like a rollercoaster ride and there was going to be a horrible smash.”

Lady Gaga 'to release a new album in 2017'

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga is reportedly set to release a new album in October 2017.
The 30-year-old singer-songwriter released ‘Joanne’ in October 2016, but after she recently returned to the recording studio, Gaga is already making good progress on a new full-length record.
The album is slated for release in October, according to Forbes magazine, which has also claimed that Gaga won’t receive a fee for her much-anticipated appearance at the Super Bowl half-time show in Houston, Texas.
Earlier this month, Gaga revealed she has built a tent in her garden to practice for her Super Bowl appearance.
The iconic musician announced the news of her personal training area on her Instagram account, posting a picture of her surrounded by a group of people whilst she kicks her leg in the air.
Gaga captioned the post: “SuperBowl Rehearsal is so fun. We built a tent in my backyard with a dancefloor to practice! We love you monsters, can’t wait to perform for u! (sic).”
What’s more, Gaga revealed she has been exercising “everyday all day” to ensure she is at the peak of her fitness when she belts out songs during the half-time show.
Alongside a photograph of the singer – whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – in the midst of doing her pelvic raises, she wrote: “Training. Everyday all day #superbowl #halftime (sic).”
Gaga has previously spoken about her specific ambitions for the show, revealing she wants to sing “on the roof” of the Super Bowl.
She said: “They’re writing up multiple plans about how to safely get her on the roof, including potentially [cutting] a hole in the ceiling of the dome.
“Trying to figure out insurance for it is crazy.”

Charli XCX: will.i.am throws 'random words' into songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX says will.i.am throws “random words” into his songs.
The 24-year-old singer is currently working on the follow-up to her 2014 album ‘Sucker’, and has said her time in the studio with the Black Eyed Peas rapper has been “amazing”, although she wasn’t too convinced on his “interesting strategy” when it comes to song writing.
Asked what it was like to work with the 41-year-old musician, Charli said: “Amazing! I love him.
“We were writing and he was like ‘the verse – just say random words. Nobody listens to the verse’.
“I thought, ‘Hm, interesting strategy.’ Then I listened again to his songs and I was like, ‘Fuck, he actually does this! He really believes in this strategy! But it’s a really fun way to write songs.”
And the ‘After The Afterparty’ hitmaker hopes her new venture will be better than her last, as she claimed she made “rash decisions” that she wasn’t happy with.
When asked by Q Magazine what she’d change about ‘Sucker’, the brunette beauty replied: “I made some rash decisions with ‘Sucker’, like the song ‘Break The Rules’. That was so bad. I hate it. I wrote it at a writing camp for other artists with Benny Blanco and Stargate, and I was like, ‘Whoever sings this song is an idiot.'”
Previously, the ‘Boom Clap’ singer branded her upcoming third studio venture as a “party album”.
She said: “On my previous record, I was really annoyed at the music industry and felt like I had something to prove.
“After that, I didn’t feel I had anything to prove anymore. Also one of my favourite hobbies is partying, and I realised that I never actually made a party album. I never made an album that I would want to hear at a club. It was very indulgent in that sense because I just wanted to make an album that I could get fucked up to. It’s the soundtrack to my nights.”

James Blunt announces new album The Afterlove

OHMYGOSSIP — James Blunt has announced his new album will be called ‘The Afterlove’.
The 42-year-old singer/songwriter has completed work on his fifth studio LP – the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Moon Landing’ – and will be releasing the record on March 24 through Atlantic Records.
Blunt is known for his wit and self-deprecating humour on his Twitter account and he logged onto the micro-blogging site to upload a cheeky video of himself in the bath to tell the world about his album.
In the footage, he is seen sat in bubble covered water and then says, “Hey guys, it’s been a while, take a look I’ve got something huge to show you,” the camera pans down to show the artwork for the LP as he adds, “It’s my new album ‘The Afterlove’.”
Blunt has been in the studio with an array of the top songwriters in the music business, including his close friend Ed Sheeran, Ryan Tedder, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, The Weeknd collaborator Stephen Moccio, MoZella – who has worked with Miley Cyrus and One Direction – and Ed’s long-time studio partner Amy Wadge.
Last year, ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’ hitmaker Mike Posner revealed he had worked on some songs with the ‘Goodbye My Lover’ hitmaker, but was unsure if they’ll feature on the final tracklist.
Posner previously said: “I wrote with James Blunt this year. We wrote a couple of songs on the piano. I’m not sure if they’ll make his album but we’ll see. It was pretty cool. He’s really talented so I was so happy to work with him.”
Blunt has also confirmed he is embarking on a UK headline tour which includes a date at London’s Eventim Apollo with tickets going on sale at 9am this Friday (27.01.17).
Blunt surprised his 1.3 Twitter followers back in December when he teased plans to drop a record whilst referring to the various depressing events that occurred in 2016.
He tweeted: “If you thought 2016 was bad – I’m releasing an album in 2017.”

Charli XCX wants to work with the Spice Girls

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX is desperate to work with the Spice Girls.
The 24-year-old singer/songwriter is getting ready to release her hotly anticipated third album in May and would have loved to have got any member of the girl group on the LP.
Although a collaboration didn’t happen for her new record, Charli is determined to get Baby Spice Emma Bunton, Scary Spice Mel B, Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, Sporty Spice Mel C or Ginger Spice Geri Horner on her next album.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I wish the Spice Girls were on this album. Maybe Mel B could be on the next album? Or Baby Spice?”
Charli has made no secret that she is a big Spice Girls fan, while her favourite artist is Britney Spears.
The ‘After The Afterparty’ hitmaker insists the pure pop vibe of those acts has influenced her upcoming “party” album – which features SOPHIE, Stargate and American rapper Lil Yachty on the follow-up to 2014’s ‘Sucker’.
She previously said: “On my previous record, I was really annoyed at the music industry and felt like I had something to prove. After that, I didn’t feel I had anything to prove anymore. Also one of my favourite hobbies is partying, and I realised that I never actually made a party album. I never made an album that I would want to hear at a club.

Céline Dion records 'original' song for Beauty and the Beast remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Céline Dion will perform an “all new original song” for the upcoming ‘Beauty and the Beast’ movie.
The 48-year-old singer famously sang a version of the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme song for the soundtrack of the original 1991 animated Disney feature, and has now revealed she will once again lend her voice to the franchise with a new track ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever’, which will appear in the upcoming live-action remake.
Taking to Facebook on Thursday (19.01.17) to share the news, Céline wrote: “I am thrilled to announce that I’ll be performing an all-new original song, ‘How Does A Moment Last Forever’, for Disney’s live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Being a part of the original film was such a magical experience in my life, and I’m truly honored to be a part of this film again. – Céline (sic)”
And whilst the ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker is busy recording her own music for the soundtrack, the task of creating a revamped version of the theme song – which was originally performed by Angela Lansbury before being recorded by Céline – has fallen to Ariana Grande and John Legend.
Meanwhile, ‘Harry Potter’ actress Emma Watson will also be singing as part of her starring role as Belle, something which she previously admitted she was nervous about.
Emma explained that whilst she was “excited” to be given the iconic part, she was nervous about lending her voice to the role because she’s been out of practice for so long.
She said: “It’s so crazy. I was so excited. It was nerve-wracking for me because I’ve sung as a child in plays and I loved it, but I just hadn’t done it in such a long time, it was like learning to ride a bike again.”
‘Beauty and the Beast’ is expected to hit theatres in March.

Kanye West preparing to make live comeback in UK

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West is reportedly set to make his live comeback in the UK following his hospitalisation in November with “temporary psychosis”.
The ‘Famous’ rapper axed all the remaining US dates on his ‘Saint Pablo Tour’ following his stint hospital which was caused by sleep deprivation and mental exhaustion and he also made the decision to scrap his plans to bring the show to Europe.
However, now Kanye has made a full recovery he is keen to get back on the road and deliver the show to his fans in Britain and the rest of Europe.
A source told E! News: “Kanye wants to finish the tour. He loves his show. He wants everyone in the world to see it.”
Although music is on his mind, Kanye’s main priorities are his kids, daughter North, three and 13-month-old son Saint, and the wellbeing of his wife Kim Kardashian West – who has just returned to work herself after she was robbed at gunpoint at her apartment in Paris, France, back in October.
Rather than rushing back onto the road, the 39-year-old hip hop mogul intends to work on some new music and fashion projects so he can be at home with his family before he returns to the live scene.
The source explained: “His kids are his number one priority for him and he wants to be a good dad and make his mother [Donda] proud. He thinks about her every day.
“Kanye has a few surprise projects coming up that involves music and concerts in the spring and summer. Plus he is working on his fashion line and some collaborations.”

The Beatles Love Me Do drum kit to be auctioned

OHMYGOSSIP — The Beatles’ drum kit used on ‘Love Me Do’ is to be auctioned.
The band – comprised of surviving members Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison – achieved their first number one single in the US with the track in 1963, and now the drum kit they used on the record is to be put up for auction later this week.
According to TMZ, Nate D. Sanders Auctions will auction off the kit on Thursday (26.01.17), at a starting bid of around $75,000.
However, fans of the band may be disappointed to learn the kit was not used by Ringo himself as the drums for ‘Love Me Do’ were instead provided by session musician Andy White.
Most notably, the drum skin on the bass drum features the famous Beatles logo, as well as Andy White’s name, the song name, and the name of the drum maker Ludwig.
Details of the kit on the auctioneer’s website read: “The original Ludwig drum kit used for the recording of ‘Love Me Do’, The Beatles’ first single on their first album ‘Please Please Me’, released on 22 March 1963 and ushering in Beatlemania.
“The session was recorded on 11 September 1962 at EMI London, with this recording of ‘Love Me Do’ used on the Beatles’ first album ‘Please Please Me’ as well as the first Beatles U.S. release of ‘Love Me Do’ and the 1982 re-release of the song.
“In addition to ‘Love Me Do’, this Ludwig drum kit is also heard on ‘P.S. I Love You’, which plays on the B-side of the British single and on the ‘Please Please Me’ album.
“The kit was played by Andy White during the recording session, who played with the Fab Four that day, with Ringo playing tambourine on ‘Love Me Do’.”
The drum kit isn’t the only highly priced item associated with the single either, it was reported last year that a one-sided acetate disc of the track – the only known pressing in existence – is worth an estimated £80,500.
