Niall Horan delays debut solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan has been forced to delay the release of his debut solo album.
The One Direction hunk is currently penning his own tracks while his band are on an extended hiatus but, despite teasing fans that his LP will drop at the beginning of summer, he’s decided to push back the release because he doesn’t want to “rush it”.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, the Irish heartthrob explained: “I am taking my time on it. I don’t want to rush it. I said it would be out at the start of the summer but I might push it back now a small bit. I don’t really have an idea. I’ll keep writing until it’s there and when it’s there I’ll let everyone know. It’s not going to be all singles.”
The 23-year-old singer was the first out of his bandmates to drop his debut ‘This Town’, swiftly followed by Louis Tomlinson with his gut-wrenching dance anthem ‘Just Hold On’.
But it looks like Liam Payne – who is currently expecting a baby with his girlfriend Cheryl – may be the first to release his debut album as he’s currently putting the finishing touches on his LP in the recording studio over in Los Angeles, California.
Harry, on the other hand, has been somewhat mute since the ‘Story Of My Life’ hitmakers went their separate ways last month but it’s believed he’s being lined up to make a number of cameo appearances in blockbusters over the next 12 months.
And it seems the 22-year-old hunk is very much in demand as Rita Ora – who was a mentor on ‘The X Factor’ in 2015 – is desperate to collaborate with him this year.
She said recently: “I think all the One Direction boys are going solo or something. I’d love to collaborate with him, I love Harry. I’ve been writing my own records and I haven’t thought about anyone else yet. I know that sounds selfish but you never know – when the record’s finished I could get Harry in there, yeah.”

Missy Elliott makes surprise return

OHMYGOSSIP — Missy Elliott has surprised fans with a new single.
The 45-year-old rapper – who hasn’t released a studio album since ‘The Cookbook’ in 2005 – released ‘I’m Better’, which features Lamb, and an accompanying colourful music video which she co-directed with frequent collaborator Dave Meyers, and also announced the release of a new documentary on Thursday (26.01.17) evening.
Missy also shared a teaser for the upcoming, as-yet untitled film.
In the documentary clip, she said: “It’s never just a record for me. It’s never just making a hot record. I can do that in my sleep. But visually I have to see what I’m going to do with that record when I perform it.”
Since the release of her last album, Missy has released just a few of her own singles and made occasional guest appearances on other artists’ tracks, largely just writing and producing for other musicians.
However, she briefly stepped back into the spotlight in 2015, when she joined Katy Perry for her Super Bowl halftime show, and later that year, she released her first music video in seven years with ‘WTF (Where They From)’, a collaboration with Pharrell Williams.
The ‘Work It’ hitmaker previously admitted she was incredibly grateful to Katy for inviting her to join her for the prestigious sporting show, but admitted she didn’t feel confident enough in her new material to perform any of the songs.
She recalled: “[My manager] said, ‘Katy Perry wants to speak to you, she wants to perform with you’.
“I immediately thought that she would want me to perform ‘Last Friday’ the record that we did together. So when me and Katy got on the phone, she said she was a fan of my work and that she wanted me to perform, but to perform three of my records.
“First of all, I can’t thank her enough. A thousand thank yous wouldn’t be enough. She allowed me to perform my records, on her set and she said, ‘If you have a new record, you should perform it, this is the time to perform it’.
“At the time I had some records but I didn’t feel as strong about them. I said I’d rather go out there and give them the classics.”
And Missy – who was mistaken for a newcomer by some of Katy’s younger fans – also revealed how Pharrell encouraged her to make a comeback.
She said: “I was in the house vacuuming, walking my dogs – after the Super Bowl, I’m just acting normal. He said, ‘I’m not trying to push you, but people miss you. Do you see what happened out there? Have you seen the charts?’
“I think I was still in shock. It still hadn’t registered. He was like, ‘I want to get in the studio with you.’ Who turns down Pharrell?”

Drake's 'biggest fear' is missed opportunities

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake’s “biggest fear” is missing musical opportunities by not being in the studio.
The 30-year-old rapper is currently working on a “playlist project” called ‘More Life’ – which he previously said would be released last month – and hates taking nights off for his “personal life” because he always worries someone else will “stumble upon something” that he’s missed.
He said: “At the end of the day, it’s all about the time you’re willing to put in. And, my biggest fear is always when I’m not [in the studio], there’s someone else that’s doing it.
“That’s my biggest fear in life. When I’m not doing it. When I take a night off for my personal life. When I choose to decompress or relax … not in the back of my mind, in the front of my mind, my biggest fear is if somebody’s not relaxing right now and they’re going to stumble upon something.”
And even when he is working hard in the studio, the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker is always haunted that he could have created something just as good at a time when he decided to take the night off instead.
He added: “When you get in the studio you have these moments that ultimately propel your career, you have to ask yourself how many of those did I miss by not going in on this given night or that given night.
“Because creating music is sometimes all about timing. It’s all about me texting this producer at this certain time … It is truly stars aligning, music is.
“And It’s scary to think of all the [opportunities] you miss because you didn’t sit in there. You know? So I try to not let myself have that fear.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper – who released three singles, ‘Fake Love’, ‘Two Birds, One Stone’ and ‘Sneakin’, from his newest venture in October – admits he would like to be remembered as an “emotion-evoking artist”.
He told John Calipari on his ‘Cal Cast’ podcast: “[I want] to keep people excited, give them new music, let them know I’m still hungry.
“I’m doing it to be remembered as a forward thinker. I want to be remembered… as an emotion-evoking artist”.

The 38-year-old Grime superstar – who released his critically-acclaimed 10th studio LP ‘Godfather’ on January 13 – has been honoured with the prestigious title for being an “inventor” of the genre.
Of the accolade the ‘Wearing My Rolex’ rapper – whose real name is Richard Kylea Cowie – said: “Thank you for everyone’s support and thank you NME for this award. He’s the man the rest of the scene looks up to, and the figurehead of the most exciting musical movement in a generation. John Legend: Honesty in music is key

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend thinks “honesty” is important in songwriting.
The ‘Love Me Now’ hitmaker always tries to be truthful and sincere in the music he writes as he feels it is “an artist’s duty to reflect the times that they’re living in”.
He said: “I think we have to be honest in our songs. I always quote Nina Simone that it’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times that you’re living in.”
And the 38-year-old singer – who has nine-month-old daughter Luna with his wife Chrissy Teigen – insists that doesn’t mean songs need to have a political edge.
Speaking at a TimesTalk event this week, he added: “It doesn’t mean that every song has to be political, but it does mean you should be honest with how you’re feeling and what’s important to you. If that incorporates what’s happening in presidential politics and national politics, then so be it.
“I think a lot of us as artists are going to be reflecting on what’s happening in Washington right now. We don’t know what’s going to happen yet. The thing about that guy [Donald Trump] is that he’s very unpredictable, he made a lot of promises but I don’t know if he intends to keep them. Some of his promises are terrible, so I hope he doesn’t keep them. I’m not clear on what his presidency is going to be so I’m not clear on how artists are going to respond, including myself.”
Meanwhile, John previously confessed he was rejected by “every major record label” when he tried to break into the music industry.
He explained: “I got turned down by every major record label who I met with – including Sony [Legend’s current record label] – and you know, I had to keep persisting despite the no’s and wait till I got to yes.”

Louis Tomlinson pleased with track response

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson is pleased how One Direction’s fans have responded to his debut single.
The 25-year-old singer is thrilled with the response to ‘Just Hold On’, which he released in collaboration with Steve Aoki, and quipped that the band’s fans have “adopted” the house musician.
In a joint interview with Music Choice, Louis said: “The One Direction fans have said that they’ve adopted you now Steve.”
To which Steve replied: “I feel part of the family. They are incredible, the One Direction fans, the Louis Tomlinson fans. They’re the definition of what a fan is. They get together, they rally around the song. They rally around what’s important. They get these songs in front of people’s faces, tastemakers, other fans, radio. They are like the army of bees going around and doing this amazing work that any artist would dream to have to push us all.”
Meanwhile, Louis recently confessed his solo career was an “accident”.
He explained: “It kind of happened by accident, if I’m being honest. I didn’t really know that I wanted to do anything on my own. We just started trying things, and actually, this is one of the first songs that we wrote and recorded, so we got lucky, really.”
Asked how their collaboration came about, he added: “We went to go watch a Calvin Harris show. Calvin pulled out and then Steve did the set and, yeah, we were absolutely blown away. We had an amazing night.
“And then after that night, I messaged Steve on Twitter and said, ‘Great show. Do you want to work together?’ And here we are … It’s quite romantic!”
The pair performed their track for the first time in December on UK’s ‘The X Factor’ and felt having Steve by his side was reassuring for him.
He said: “Especially with the emotion and everything, it all just whizzed by so quickly. I mean, I was terrified at the time, but yeah, it was a real moment and it really helped me going out on my own by having Steve there with me. You know, as my first performance, I wasn’t completely alone.”

Fatboy Slim: My music gives me a natural high

OHMYGOSSIP — Fatboy Slim says the “natural high” he gets from DJ-ing high is often mistaken for drug taking.
The 53-year-old dance music legend – real name Norman Cook – has been a changed man since 2009 when he checked into a rehab facility to so he could beat his alcohol addiction which was spiralling out of control.
Although he is now almost eight years teetotal, when he performs his fans think he’s indulged in booze of drugs because he’s so energetic behind the decks but Cook insists it’s just the music that is getting him going.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: “People are going, ‘He reckons he doesn’t do drugs anymore, look at him, he’s off his nut!’ Then they’ll have a conversation about what drugs they think I’m on.’ ”
Explaining the rush of adrenaline he gets when the music starts pumping, the ‘Right Here Right Now’ hitmaker added: “I genuinely get – I know it sounds w***ky – a natural high. I get intoxicated by the moment or maybe there’s just so much stuff floating around in my brain from my party days that it doesn’t take too much to dislodge.”
Cook split from wife Zoe Ball last September after 18 years of marriage, and since the break-up he admits he loves nothing more than playing to a live audience.
The producer – who has two children, Woody, 16, and Nelly, six, with 46-year-old TV presenter Zoe – said: “It rejuvenates me, it renews my passion for music and it gets me through times of difficulty in the rest of my life.”
Cook is set to have a busy summer ahead as he is confirmed to be playing the Reading and Leeds Festival in August, in what will be his first appearance at the event but he believes he deserves to take centre stage at the traditional rock-based event.
He said: “Both those festivals and myself have been going for years and yet our paths have never met before. Part of you is thinking maybe there’s a reason why you haven’t done it yet. I honestly thought I might get lynched or things thrown at me by the rock partisan crowd, but I think I’ve earned my place now.”

Calvin Harris reveals he's 'ruined' two new songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Harris has “ruined” two new songs.
The 33-year-old DJ-and-producer has been busy in the new studio working on some fresh tracks, however, not all of his tinkering on the mixing desk has worked out.
The ‘We Found Love’ hitmaker took to Twitter on Thursday (26.01.17) to tell his fans about his musical mishap.
He tweeted: “Today I ruined two songs.”
But Calvin is sure he’ll be able to turn them into hits, adding: “I’ll fix them tomorrow though.”
His frank admissions come just days after he revealed he had been busy ‘auto-tuning’ – a process which uses a computer to alter the pitch in vocal and instrumental music recordings – on Monday (23.01.17), when a fan asked him what he had been up to.
Earlier this week, Calvin also revealed that he planned to work on 10 tracks this year – with a new song to be dropped later in 2017.
Calvin is expected to set aside some time to collaborate with Jason Derulo as the ‘Ridin’ Solo’ hitmaker revealed the pair were keen to work on music together once they can find some time in their busy schedules.
Jason said: “We’ve been in contact and Calvin and I are interested in working together for sure. But it’s just finding the right time and right song, we both have busy schedules, but I hope so.”
Meanwhile, Calvin is set to make an appearance at the 2017 BRIT Awards.
And the ‘My Way’ songwriter has vowed to grow a beard in time for the prestigious ceremony, which takes place at The O2 in London on February 22.
Taking to his Twitter, the Scottish hunk previously shared: “I trimmed my mustache I was looking washed up … while making the best music of my life … didn’t correlate. Gonna grow it back for the Brits (sic)”
Calvin is up for two prizes; British Single of the Year for ‘This is What You Came For’, his track with Rihanna, and British Video for the same song.

Nickelback working on new album after penning record deal

OHMYGOSSIP — Nickelback are busily working on their ninth studio album after signing a new global record deal with BMG.
The Canadian rock group, who formed in 1995, have begun working on their latest record and while they are yet to confirm a tentative release date for the album, they have promised to make a “major” announcement on February 1.
In a statement, the band – whose lead vocalist is Chad Kroeger – said: “We are honoured to partner with the global BMG team and look forward to releasing new music for our fans.
“Sharing our vision and passion with such a dedicated team while being surrounded by some of the greatest music artists of all time is very humbling and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Zach Katz of BMG added that the band will be releasing new music “soon”.
He said: “We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Nickelback to BMG. For us, the opportunity to work side by side with a band of their calibre, with an exceptional body of work reaching the highest levels of global success, truly speaks for itself.
“We are excited to let the world experience their extraordinary new music soon.”
Meanwhile, in December, Avril Lavigne accused Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg of “bullying” Nickelback.
Avril – who split from Chad Kroeger in 2015 – was not impressed when Mark poked fun at the group in a video about his home A.I. assistant Jarvis, voiced by Morgan Freeman.
In the video, Mark can be heard asking Jarvis to play some good Nickelback music, to which he responds, “I’m afraid I can’t do that. There are no good Nickelback songs.”
But Avril subsequently wrote on Twitter :”Dear Mark, Many people use your products – some people love them and some people don’t. Either way, you’re allowed your musical opinion however, your jab at Nickelback is in poor taste. When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what’s going on in the world today. #SayNoToBullying #TheJokeIsOld #NickelbackHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums (sic).”

Boyzlife to record new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Boyzlife are to release their first single.
The duo – which is formed of Boyzone star Keith Duffy and ex-Westlife member Brian McFadden – got together last year for a tour in which they told stories about their time in the huge Irish groups and sang some of their biggest hits, and they are now going into the recording studio to work on new music together.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “They’ve been offered the chance to do this in the past but decided against it – they just wanted to focus on their live shows and enjoy their time on the road.
“But after the success of the last tour a new opportunity came up and they’ve decided to take it up, it’s very exciting for them and they’re looking forward to getting in the studio together.”
And the pair are said to be hoping to include a guest female vocalist on a track written by Brian, 36, which they think would be the perfect debut single, though they haven’t yet decided who to bring in.
The source added: “They’ve got a song that Brian co-wrote which they thought would be perfect.
“They’re passionate about the track and are keen to get someone with an international profile on board to help give it a push overseas too.”
Brian left Westlife in 20014, eight years before they eventually disbanded after enjoying huge chart success.
However, it was recently claimed he would be a part of a reunion with Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Markus Feehily and Nicky Byrne, but it seems those plans are now on hold because of his music with Keith, 42.
The source said: “This is very much their focus now so any talk of Brian reuniting with Westlife looks a long way off.”

Liam Gallagher to be reunited with Oasis' Andy Bell at Benicassim

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher is to be reunited with his former Oasis bandmate Andy Bell at the Benicassim festival.
The 44-year-old singer is releasing his first ever solo album in the coming months and he has added another European festival date to his diary at the annual music extravaganza which takes place in the Spanish town from July 13 to July 16.
The event will be headlined by Kasabian – fronted by Liam’s close friend Tom Meighan – Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Weeknd.
Also on the bill are indie shoegazing band Ride comprised of Mark Gardener, Laurence ‘Loz’ Colbert, Steve Queralt and Andy.
Andy, 46, joined Oasis as the bass player in 2000 along with guitarist Gem Archer following the departure of original members Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs and Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan and remained in the band until Noel Gallagher quit in August 2009 following a huge backstage bust-up with his brother Liam.
Liam, Andy and Gem, 50, formed new group Beady Eye with drummer Chris Sharrock in the wake of the ‘Supersonic’ rockers’ demise but after releasing two albums, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’ and ‘BE’, they disbanded in October 2014 prompting Andy to reform Ride – who are releasing a new LP this summer.
Discussing the Beady Eye break-up, Andy said: “It just sort of ran its course really. Liam had been pretty quiet for a while, and them he just let us know that his heart wasn’t really in it any more. It was a long fade, really.”
Foals, Slaves, Blossoms and Tyler, the Creator have all also been confirmed to be playing Internacional de Benicassim.
Liam’s latest confirmed festival appearance follows him being announced for Lollapalooza in Paris, Bergenfest in Norway and as a headliner for Exit Festival in Serbia.

Ray Davies: My new album Americana could become a film

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ray Davies says his new album ‘Americana’ could be presented as a film or a TV series.
The former Kinks frontman is getting ready to bring out his first solo LP since 2007’s ‘Working Man’s Cafe’ and this week unveiled the lead single ‘Poetry’ – which features alt-country band The Jayhawks – ahead of the record’s April 21 release date.
The title of the album is taken from his 2013 memoir of the same name and, as well as new songs, ‘Americana’ will also feature spoken word passages from his book and deals with his and his brother Dave Davies’ journey to be one of the biggest bands of the 1960s and 1970s.
Ray, 72, intends to tour the record but he thinks the “oblique” nature of the songs means it could be turned into a visual experience for television.
In an interview with the new issue of Mojo magazine, he said: “Could it be a film? Yeah, or a well-thought stage piece, or a six-part TV series, quite episodic and possibly telling the story of The Kinks.”
When he does play live, Ray accepts he has to try new things especially for any television performances because he can’t act the preening rock star at his age.
The ‘All Day and All of the Night’ hitmaker said: “I’ll have to create a new way of presenting music. I think the world needs it. They don’t especially need me to do it, but it’s important for men of my age to do new things. You can’t go and do a TV show where you play and there’s a girl dancing in the background. Well, you could, but I’d look ridiculous, so I have to do something new.”
‘Americana’ has been co-produced by Guy Massey and John Jackson and is set to be the first of two new albums to be released by Ray in 2017.
Ray and Dave, 69, disbanded The Kinks in 1996 but did play together for the first time in almost 20 years in 2015, when Ray joined Dave on stage in London for a performance of ‘You Really Got Me’ sparking hopes for a reunion.
‘Americana’ full tracklisting:
1. ‘Americana’
2. ‘The Deal’
3. ‘Poetry’
4. ‘Message From The Road’ ft. Karen Grotberg of The Jayhawks
5. ‘A Place In Your Heart’
6. ‘The Mystery Room’
7. ‘Silent Movie’
8. ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Cowboys’
9. ‘Change For Change’
10. ‘The Man Upstairs’
11. ‘I’ve Heard That Beat Before’
12. ‘A Long Drive Home To Tarzana’
13. ‘The Great Highway’
14. ‘The Invaders’
15. ‘Wings Of Fantasy’

René had six children; Patrick, 48, from his first marriage to Denyse Duquette; Jean Pierre, 42, and Anne Marie, 39, from his second marriage to Anne Renée; and René-Charles, 15, and twins Nelson and Eddy, six, with Celine.
And Celine admitted that René’s battle with cancer was tough for the entire family.
She said: “Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us. For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved – yeah, I never kissed another man in my life. So, the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So, when he stopped suffering, I said to myself, ‘He’s OK. And he deserves not to suffer.'”

Ed Sheeran invites James Blunt on tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has invited James Blunt to join him on his tour.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker bonded with the 42-year-old singer during his year-long hiatus from the spotlight throughout 2016 and has now asked him to accompany him when he takes his highly-anticipated shows to the US later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Ed and James have a real laugh together, it’ll be proper madness on tour. James has a good following in the US so he’ll also play some gigs too, acting as a support for his mate. When you spend so much time on the road it’s always handy to be in good company, and James certainly fits into that category.”
And the flame-haired hunk has also written some songs for the ‘Bonfire Heart’ hitmaker’s forthcoming fifth studio album ‘The Afterlove’.
The LP is set to drop on March 24 and also features collaborations with the likes of Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, Amy Wadge, Johnny McDaid and MoZella.
Taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday (24.01.17), James announced the news of his new album – which is the follow up to 2013’s ‘Moon Landing’ – via a short video.
He accompanied the clip, which was filmed in his bathtub, with the caption: “I’ve got something huge to show you.”
Ed, on the other hand, is yet to announce many details about his forthcoming tour but admitted recently that he wants to ease himself back into things gently following his 12-month break and has only included arenas and smaller venues on his forthcoming tour.
He said: “This time, I didn’t want to go straight into stadiums. I wanted to get the tour good first. We’re doing smaller shows … It’s mad to say an arena is a small show cause it’s not, but it was a conscious decision not to book a load of Wembleys this year.”
Although he’s already decided he wants to perform at smaller venues this year, the 25-year-old singer is yet to release any dates regarding when the tour will kick off but it’s believed he will get things going by headlining at Glastonbury at the end of June.
