Louis Tomlinson's chance meeting

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson has Calvin Harris to thank for his collaboration with Steve Aoki.
The former One Direction star was meant to see the ‘This Is What You Came For’ hitmaker perform in Las Vegas but when he couldn’t make it, Steve replaced him and it was after seeing him there that Louis decided to get in touch.
He shared: “I was on holiday with my friends in Vegas, and we were meant to see Calvin Harris’ show … [My friends and I] had an incredible night at [Steve’s show]. It was really, really fun. The show was amazing.”
The pair collaborated on Louis’ debut single ‘Just Hold On’, which they performed for the first time in December as a tribute to Louis’ late mother Johannah Deakin, who passed away only a few days prior to their performance after an aggressive battle with leukaemia.
Of the track, Steve told Rolling Stone magazine: “I didn’t want to make an EDM record with an EDM arrangement … It was really about the lyrics, how to make the lyrics stand out musically on my part.
“When we started out, it was really more of sad, slow song. We needed it more uplifting. We needed to speed it up. We needed more energy to the song … It’s the most human song I’ve produced.”
Meanwhile, Louis previously admitted his first performance of the track felt like a “little send off” to his mother.
He said: “It’s not something that I feel 100 per cent comfortable talking too much about but just quickly, when I first found out the news I kind of did want to throw the towel in. But it was my mum who said to me that I’ve just got to keep going, telling me very sternly that she wanted me to. So I’m not doing it for her but … It was tough but I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send off for her.”

Tom Clarke to mark The Enemy's debut LP's 10-year milestone

OHMYGOSSIP — The Enemy’s Tom Clarke has announced a UK tour to mark the 10th anniversary of their debut LP ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’.
The ‘It’s Automatic’ rockers might have split last year, but frontman Tom Clarke has unveiled details of some intimate shows, which will kick off on June 17 at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms and conclude at Sheffield’s O2 Academy 2 on July 7, and will see the 30-year-old singer perform the 2007 record in its entirety with just him on acoustic guitar.
He will also perform some songs live that were never played at their shows because they were so stripped back.
He explained: “When the album [‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’] was first released in June 2007, I couldn’t have imagined the love that people would have for it.
“Over the years it’s been obvious that for many it’s the defining Enemy album.
“It would be wrong then to let it’s 10th anniversary pass without so much as a nod to its importance.
“That’s why I am inviting fans to some very intimate shows to celebrate the songs from the debut, stripped back to their bare essentials and played acoustically.
“The idea is to play all of the songs from that first record as they were written acoustically, in an up close and personal environment with people who love them, as well as playing a few tracks which The Enemy never really performed live because they didn’t fit into the electric sets.
“These shows will be tiny, so tickets will be extremely limited.
“There won’t be another 10 year anniversary of ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’ and it’s an album that means the world to me, so to go out and play the songs unplugged as they were originally written, feels like the right way to put them to bed. I hope you’ll come along and sing them with me.”
It follows their ‘Last Orders Tour’ in September, which saw the group – which was also comprised of Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts – play six UK shows before calling time on their 10-year spanning career.
The Enemy’s Tom Clarke’s 10th anniversary UK acoustic tour dates are as follows:
June
17 – Nottingham, Rescue Rooms
18 – Cardiff, Globe
19 – Bristol, Fleece
21 – Leeds, Brudenell Social Club
22 – Reading, Sub89
30 – Glasgow, O2 ABC
July
01 – Newcastle, O2 Academy 2
02 – Liverpool, Arts Club
04 – Manchester, Gorilla
06 – London, 02 Academy Islington
07 – Sheffield, O2 Academy 2

Brian Wilson announces UK Pet Sounds shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Wilson has added two UK ‘Pet Sounds’ 50th anniversary dates to his world tour.
The Beach Boys legend will perform at London’s Eventim Apollo on August 1 and Sheffield City Hall on August 3 to mark five decades since the release of the iconic surf group’s 11th studio LP, which was released in May 1966.
It follows the announcement that he is to perform at Kendall Calling festival and Camp Bestival this summer.
The 74-year-old musician said: “I’m really happy to be able to come back to the UK and perform ‘Pet Sounds’ yet again for all our fans.
“The response from everyone has been amazing and that’s why we decided to come back and play ‘Pet Sounds’ for one last time.
“We want to thank our fans in the UK for all their support, and look forward to playing these shows this summer, love and mercy, Brian.”
The ‘Good Vibrations’ hitmaker is extremely proud of the band’s 11th album – which contains acclaimed songs such as ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ and ‘God Only Knows’ – and knows he could never better it.
Writing in his new memoir ‘I Am Brian Wilson’, he said: “I love the whole Pet Sounds record. I got a full vision out of it in the studio. After that, I said to myself that I had completed the greatest album I will ever produce.
“I knew it. I thought it was one of the greatest albums ever done. It was a spiritual record. When I was making it, I looked around at the musicians and the singers and I could see their halos.”
And Brian – who took or shared lead vocals on many of the album’s tracks – is loving being on the road again.
He said: “It’s a thrill to perform ‘Pet Sounds’ because I love the album and people love the way we make it sound just like the original record.
“The trips are going great. We just went to New Zealand, Australia and Japan and the people in those countries just flip for it. They love it.”

Frank Ocean to headline Parklife festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Ocean, The 1975 and Boy Better Know will headline this year’s Parklife Festival.
The 29-year-old singer will take to the main stage at Manchester’s Heaton Park on Sunday 11th June for what will be his first UK festival appearance of 2017, meaning fans will get to experience the sounds of his second studio album ‘Blonde’, which he released last August after a four-year hiatus.
The ‘Love Me’ hitmakers – fronted by Matt Healy – will close on Saturday June 10 and London’s grime collective Boy Better Know will perform on the iconic Temple Stage.
Other performers over the weekend include London Grammar, Zara Larsson, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Jess Glynne and legendary ‘Ain’t Nobody’ hitmaker Chaka Khan.
It could be fans of Frank’s last chance to see him perform live as the ‘Swim Good’ hitmaker recently hinted that he could be moving away from music to try something new that he is a “novice” at.
He said: “I believe that I am one of the best in the world at what I do, and that’s all I ever wanted to be.
“It’s more interesting for me to figure out how to be superior in areas where I’m naive, where I am a novice.”
And he also said that now he is no longer signed to a record label, after he splitting from Def Jam Recordings, he doesn’t feel the need to release a full collection of songs and might stick to a “half-a-song format”.
He explained: “Because I am not in a record deal, I don’t have to operate in an album format. I can operate in half-a-song format.”
Frank says it was important for him to self-release his first album in five years, ‘Blonde’, because he wouldn’t have to worry about how it would do in the charts like his previous albums including 2012’s ‘Channel Orange’.
He said: “With this record [‘Blonde’] in particular, I wanted to feel like I won before the record came out, and I did, and so it took a lot pressure off of me about how the record even would perform after the fact. Once the goal is met, everything else is lagniappe. It’s not essential for me to have a big debut week, it’s not essential for me to have big radio records.”
General tickets for Parklife will go on sale at 9am on Thursday (02.02.17).

Depeche Mode announce first single in four years

OHMYGOSSIP — Depeche Mode’s first song in four years will be released on Friday (03.02.17).
The legendary electronic trio – comprised of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher – have announced the lead single ‘Where’s The Revolution?’ from their much-anticipated 14th studio LP, ‘Split’.
The ‘Enjoy the Silence’ hitmakers teamed up with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford – who is famed for his work with Florence + The Machine and Arctic Monkeys – for their follow-up to 2013’s ‘Delta Machine’.
The group will head out in support of the record on their ‘Global Spirit Tour’ this summer, kicking off on May 5 at Stockholm’s Friends Arena and wrapping up at Romania’s Cluj Arena on July 23.
The last update from the band was in September 2015, when lead singer Dave Gahan, 54, admitted it’s always a “big challenge” to come up with a concept for an album.
At the time, he said: “I saw Martin recently. It was really nice to see him, and I’m sure by the end of this year we’ll sit down together and talk about making another record. I know he’s began writing and loosely I’ve begun writing as well with Christian [Eigner] and Peter [Gordeno] from the band, and also Kurt [Uenala]. But that’s a long way off. Later in the year — I don’t know, in December or something – I’ll go out to his place or something and we’ll sit down and talk about it. It’s always a big challenge. You have to really sit down and you have to have an idea: ‘What kind of record do we really want to make? Who do we want to work with? Where do we want to take this? Do we want to go on the road?’ All that kind of stuff, and I’m pretty sure it will happen, but there’s no plan at the moment.”
‘Split’ is released via Columbia Records on March 17.

The Vamps' James McVey penning sic-fi novel

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vamps’ James McVey is penning a science-fiction book.
The 22-year-old heartthrob has set out to prove that he is not a “stereotypical” boy band star by using his brains to write his very own tome, which he hopes will educate others, and will be released through the same publishers as the band’s ‘The Vamps: Our Story: 100%’ book.
He revealed: “I’m writing a fiction novel, I don’t know how it came about.
“I loved writing at school. I did English literature and history, so I guess I was missing that academic side of life.
“I met people when we did The Vamps book, like publishers, and so they are really helping me out – they have inspired me to carry on doing it. It should be published next year.”
The ‘Can We Dance’ hitmaker – who is joined by Bradley Simpson, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans in the group – has decided to expand his skills to show that just because he is in a band it doesn’t mean he’s not intelligent as he gets annoyed when people make out that musicians have any easy job.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “Sometimes I find it frustrating that people stereotype.
“It’s a massive misconception that being in a band that we don’t do much other than turn up and mime, but I want people to see that we like to learn.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Oh Cecelia’ rocker previously said he and his bandmates are just “regular guys” and would hate for anyone to think they have become more “condescending and in a higher position” since they became famous.
James previously said: “We still try to get home as much as we can and we’re just friends that like to do normal things.
“We’re regular guys. There’s nothing worse than people being condescending and feeling like they’re in a higher position. We talk to people and behave like we always have … We have a loyal fan base, the best fans in the world.”

Blondie's collaborative LP features Sia and Charli XCX

OHMYGOSSIP — Blondie’s new album features collaborations with Sia and Charli XCX.
The ‘Call Me’ hitmakers – comprised of Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Leigh Foxx, Matt Katz-Bohen and Tommy Kessler – have also worked with The Smith’s Johnny Marr, The Strokes’ Nick Valensi and Dev Hynes for their 11th studio LP, ‘Pollinator’, which will be released on May 5.
‘After the Afterparty’ hitmaker, Charli, 24, wrote synth pop album opener ‘Gravity’ and Australian pop star Sia, 41, provided the words for ‘Best Day Ever’.
Marr, 53, contributed the lyrics and plays guitar on ‘My Monster’, while Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes used fragments of Blondie’s 1978 smash hit ‘Heart of Glass’ on ‘Long Time’.
Speaking previously about the collaborative LP, bassist Chris Stein said: “We thought to ask people because there’s so much good music swirling about rather than it being a result of running thin on ideas.
“We sorted the contributors ourselves, or someone would send us a bunch of songs and we’d pick one.”
Lead single ‘Fun’ was released on Wednesday (01.02.17) was co-written by TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek.
The record was made at renowned New York recording studio, The Magic Shop, where the late David Bowie – who died of cancer last January at the age of 69 – made his last two records, 2016’s ‘Blackstar’ and 2013’s ‘The Next Day’.
It was only fitting that the punk rock pioneers recorded where Bowie worked as frontwoman Debbie Harry, 71, credits the ‘Starman’ hitmaker for Blondie’s esteemed 40-year career in music.
The buxom blonde previously said: “Without this visionary [Bowie] and his friend Iggy Pop where would Blondie be today?
“Silly question and one that can’t be answered really, but there is no doubt in my mind that Bowie played a big part in our future successes. As for now, love you David Bowie.”
‘Pollinator’ tracklist is as follows:
1. ‘Doom or Destiny’
2. ‘Long Time’
3. ‘Already Naked’
4. ‘Fun’
5. ‘My Monster’
6. ‘Best Day Ever’
7. ‘Gravity’
8. ‘When I Gave Up On You’
9. ‘Love Level’
10. ‘Too Much’
11. ‘Fragments’

St. Vincent teases new album

OHMYGOSSIP — St. Vincent needs her new album to be the “best thing she’s ever done”.
The ‘Digital Witness’ hitmaker is gearing up to release a new LP later this year and is glad she was able to give herself enough time to make sure this offering is her best by “leaps and bounds”.
She said: “Based on the amount of material I have, I could have put out three records by now. But I needed this one, especially with where we are in the world, to be the best thing that I’ve ever done by leaps and bounds.
“And that takes time. That’s something I’ve never really given myself, but it was nice. Now I’m ready to get back in the ring, so to speak, because I get twitchy if I’m not doing a lot of things.”
And the 34-year-old singer is throwing herself into a number of creative projects this year including making a movie and building a studio.
She told FACT magazine: “I guess I threw myself into some other creative projects like building a studio and making a movie and designing a guitar and working on an art installation that’s yet to come out. Obviously I’m putting out a record this year and I’m so excited about it, but I needed to do some things that were creative but not music and not touring and not performing just to get my bearings.
“I started really touring in bands in my very early 20s, maybe even before, and then toured really seriously for 10 years straight, pretty much. I like that, there’s nothing pathological about it – I like moving, I like being kinetic – but it takes a different kind of energy to perform and I needed to have something very worthwhile to say on a record. I used to be a little more utilitarian about it, but it takes time to cultivate [something worthwhile].”

Dizzee Rascal to headline at Outlook Festival 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Dizzee Rascal has been named as one of the headline acts for Outlook Festival 2017.
The London-born rapper will be among the star attractions at the annual festival, which takes place at Fort Punta Christo in Pula from September 6 to September 10.
The 32-year-old rapper – whose real name is Dylan Mills – will open the event in a 2,000-year-old ampitheatre located on the festival site.
Outlook Festival will also feature Dizzee’s friend-turned-rival Wiley, who last year opened up about the rapper getting stabbed in Cyprus in 2003.
Wiley, 38, revealed the ‘Bonkers’ hitmaker hasn’t spoken to him since he was knifed six times in the popular clubbing holiday destination Ayia Napa.
He said: “The reason we haven’t spoken for so many years?… Basically, me and Dizzee went out one night [in Ayia Napa] and there was some fighting with another crew – I won’t say who, but basically everyone knows.
“Then the next day, I decided to carry it on – I didn’t pull out a knife. I was just fighting … Well, after we started it up again, those guys came looking for us. But the person they found was Dizzee. The thing we done the next morning led them to go looking for us, but see him and stab him.”
Wiley admitted he regrets the fallout between himself and his one-time friend.
He said: “I would work with him any day of my life if I could. I love him like a brother. There’s no reason why we don’t talk. We haven’t got beef – remember, I was with him when he got rushed in Ayia Napa.”

James Blunt got fed up making 'miserable' music

OHMYGOSSIP — James Blunt was desperate to write an upbeat album because he got fed up making “miserable music”.
The 42-year-old singer – whose hit single ‘Goodbye My Love’ is one of the most played songs at funerals – recently announced his fifth studio LP ‘The Afterlove’ and has admitted he decided to ditch his usual depressing songs this time round because he is in a happier place since marrying his 33-year-old wife Sofia Wellesley in 2014, and he wants his music to reflect that.
James – who dropped lead single ‘Love Me Better’ earlier this month – admits that he is “nervous” about fans hearing his more up-tempo tunes.
In an interview with Radio X, he confessed: I’m very lucky – I suppose we always focus on the negatives don’t we? You know, you can sell a few thousand tickets but we always focus on the one negative tweet or something like that. But I am genuinely nervous about this record because, as I say, it does sound different and you never quite know if anyone will like it or not. But I suppose I was just … I was tired of doing the same old kind of miserable songs and I wanted to do something that reflected me a bit more, which was something with a bit more energy.”
The hunky star added that working with Stephan Moccio and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder on his follow-up to 2014’s ‘Moon Landing’ also had a big impact on his less sombre sound.
He said: “You know what, this does feel really different for me and, you know, I know I’ve written, I suppose, four albums with me on a guitar writing these pretty miserable, dour sort of songs and I feel that’s a lifetime away really. Particularly from the kind of time of ‘Back to Bedlam’ and ‘You’re Beautiful’ and so this album is very different for me and I’ve been writing it with people like Stephan Moccio who works with The Weeknd and Ryan Tedder who you know is the lead singer from OneRepublic. And I am a bit nervous because the album sounds very different from what I’ve done in the past. ”
Tune into the brand new Radio X Evening Show with Gordon Smart, weekdays 7-10pm on Radio X.

Ed Sheeran is trying to tackle ticket touts

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran’s record label is trying to combat touts seeking to make money off his upcoming UK tour.
The 25-year-old star recently returned to the spotlight after an extended hiatus and tickets for his hotly-anticipated tour are expected to sell out within minutes of going on sale on Thursday (02.02.17) – but Atlantic Records is doing all it can to tackle the touts.
A spokesperson said: “We are vehemently opposed to the unethical practices in the secondary market.
“We have written to each of our partners, be they promoters, venues or ticketing companies, detailing the way in which we expect tickets to be sold: Direct to fans.”
Although online reselling is legal in the UK, it can lead fans to pay well above the face value of a ticket to see a gig.
The scenario has already led Adele to announce a zero tolerance policy against the situation – and Ed has now followed suit.
His spokesperson told The Sun newspaper: “We’ve also partnered with Twickets, a site which allows fans to swap tickets at face value or less. We are pushing them as the official resale partner and a safe place to swap tickets.
“We urge all fans not to engage with other sites to avoid being ripped off with higher prices or counterfeit tickets.”
Meanwhile, it was recently suggested the ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker wants his close friend James Blunt to join him for some of his tour dates in the US.
A source said: “Ed and James have a real laugh together, it’ll be proper madness on tour. James has a good following in the US so he’ll also play some gigs too, acting as a support for his mate.
“When you spend so much time on the road it’s always handy to be in good company, and James certainly fits into that category.”

Aerosmith's tour will be 'greatest rock 'n' roll show ever seen'

OHMYGOSSIP — Aerosmith’s upcoming tour will be “one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll shows ever seen”.
Guitarist Brad Whitford has teased that the group are hoping to feature some of their less well known songs on the setlist for their upcoming Farewell tour, which they have aptly titled ‘Aero-Vederci Baby!’
He said: “We would like to do some more deep cuts. We’ll see how that goes, it’s very hard to get everybody to agree on certain things. We’ve basically done the hit-parade our whole career, and there’s a lot of really great deep tracks that have been neglected. It would be nice to bring some of that stuff out. I think people would appreciate that.”
When asked if there were any songs in particular that he was keen to feature, he added: “Yeah man, there’s a lot of them – some of them my own songs. Like ‘Nobody’s Dault’ -we haven’t done very much live but people request all the time. A lot of good songs that people have gotten really close to being played. That song ‘Amazing’ which we, for some reason as a band don’t like, but a lot of people love it and relate to the lyrics. So we’re hoping to bring some rarer tracks out, because when else are we gonna do it?”
As part of their tour, the rock group – which also includes Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton – will play a hotly-anticipated set at Download Festival in the UK.
Speaking about the performance, Brad added to NME magazine: “We’re always trying to take it up a notch every time we go on the stage, and there’s a lot of friendly competition out there. It’s fun, you never know what’s gonna happen. We’re always trying to surprise each other with something that we come up with.”

The Jacksons announce one-off UK gig

OHMYGOSSIP — The Jacksons have announced a one-off gig to mark the group’s 50th anniversary.
The ‘ABC’ hitmakers – comprised of Tito, Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon Jackson – will perform at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, South East England on June 18 with Kool & The Gang supporting the Motown legends.
The iconic group – which also included King of Pop Michael Jackson until his death in 2009 from a Propofol overdose – will be performing as a part of the Nocturne concert series, which is held between June 15 to June 18.
The ‘I Want You Back’ band – who were originally known as The Jackson 5 – last played the UK in the summer of 2015 when they performed at Bestival.
Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie took the stage at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight for a set featuring some of their biggest hits – and the foursome took a moment to honour the late ‘Smooth Criminal’ hitmaker.
Jermaine told the crowd: “Thanks to our little brother Randy and, of course our brother who’s here just in spirit, Michael.”
The Jackson brothers played a string of hits including ‘I’ll Be There’, ‘Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground), ‘ABC’ and ‘I Want You Back’.
They also played Michael’s hit song ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ from his hit album ‘Thriller’.
The Jacksons will be joined by classical musician Max Richter and a third major act is expected to be announced in the coming months.
Last year’s Nocturne series was a huge success and saw the likes of Sir Elton John, Van Morrison, The Corrs and Jack Savoretti perform.
Tickets are on sale for £45.

Ed Sheeran gets hot and sweaty in Shape Of You video

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran’s music video for ‘Shape Of You’ features the flame-haired hunk getting hot and sweaty while boxing.
The 25-year-old singer/songwriter has unveiled the promo for his number one single from his forthcoming LP ‘÷’, which sees him fall for his trainer and take her for a fried chicken dinner date before having an hilarious fight with a sumo wrestler.
The short was directed by Jason Koenig and filmed in Seattle.
Prior to the video coming out, the ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker said he found the intense exercise featured in it really tough because he’s not a “healthy individual”.
Discussing the video, he said: “Do you know what? They were filming it and they were getting me … like I’m not a very, like, healthy, fit individual, and they’re like, ‘Right, we’re gonna do these pull-ups.’ And I was like, ‘I can literally do one pull-up,’ and they were making me do six or seven in a row whilst filming me.”
Ed insisted his topless debut was not him attempting to become a pop heartthrob like his close pal Justin Bieber, as it is actually a “gritty” part of the promo.
He shared: “But it’s not in a, like, Justin Bieber walking out of the sea kind of way. It’s a kind of like, quite gritty …”
Teasing the video’s comical ending, he added: “It’s like really serious and then the last 30 seconds you’re like ‘what the hell is going on here?”
Meanwhile, the ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker has made chart history once again this week, with ‘Shape Of You’ and ‘Castle On The Hill’ as he’s become the first artist to achieve both a number one and number two on the radio chart.
He is also the only artist to knock his own number one off of the top spot with another of his own tracks.
The two singles switched their positions with ‘Shape Of You’ holding the top spot, surpassing ‘Castle On The Hill’, which was previously number one for two consecutive weeks and sits directly behind at number two.
