James Arthur plans boozy BRITs after-party with Ed Sheeran

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur plans on getting very drunk with Ed Sheeran or Louis Tomlinson at the BRIT Awards.
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker has already been chatting with the ‘Shape of You’ singer, 25, and the former One Direction hunk, also 25, about what they are going to do after the ceremony held at London’s The O2 on February 22, and it sounds like it’s going to get messy even if they don’t win any gongs on the night.
James, 28, said: “I think I might go pretty hard at the after-party to be honest.
“It will just be so cool to be there, it’s a great thing considering the journey I have been on.
“I am going to be celebrating regardless, just to be nominated is worth a few rinks – It’s a huge achievement.
“I’m not taking anyone with, I will just go with the team.
“I spoke to Ed and Louis about the after-party already.
“I will be hitting it up with one of them two, I haven’t decided yet who. Louis said he’s down yeah, I think Ed is sticking around too.
“A few people have mentioned meeting up so let’s see what happens.”
The ‘Impossible’ singer – who won the ninth series of ‘The X Factor’ in 2012 – says he may even speak with other pop stars on the night about collaborations once he’s had a few pints, but he doesn’t want to seem like he is using them so he’d only pursue them if it came about naturally.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “Chatting to people after a few beers is a great idea, there are loads of people I wanna party with, see what they’re up to.
“I think it’s going to be one of those nights where you just bump into different artists, which is a really exciting prospect as I don’t get that opportunity that much.
“I’m still climbing the ladder and I don’t want to be seen to be trying to use people to get more recognition.
“If it happens organically, then great.”
James has been nominated for Best British Single and Best Video for ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’.
Ed isn’t shortlisted, but he will be performing on the night, and with James confirming Louis is attending there could be a special performance from the ‘Just Hold On’ star.

Rag'n'Bone Man's life changed by rent-paying producer

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag’n’Bone Man’s life changed when his producer said he’d pay his rent for three months to allow him to work with him.
The 32-year-old singer/songwriter was making ends meet by working long hours as a carer in Brighton, East Sussex and got a phone call one day from Mark Crew – a longtime friend, who worked on Bastille’s debut LP ‘Bad Blood’ – who offered him the chance to make his own record at his London studios.
The ‘Human’ singer – whose real name is Rory Graham – was reluctant to accept his offer as he knew he wouldn’t be able to afford to travel up to the capital, but it was too kind a gesture to turn down.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, the ‘Skin’ hitmaker shared: “I’d started recording with a producer friend of mine called Mark Crew who believed in me so much that he paid my rent for three months.
“I was working as a care worker at the time and the people there were great but it was long hours and I couldn’t go to play a festival in Cornwall then get back in time.
“Something had to give and then I got a publishing deal, which helped me.”
Now Rory is this year’s recipient of the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award and has also been nominated for British Breakthrough Act, which is mind-blowing for the former care worker, who is “still in shock” about it all.
He said: “This is my first time ever doing the BRITs thing, even though I’ve been invited in the past.
“I said I wouldn’t do it unless I was nominated as I felt like I would jinx it.”
However, Rory remains very humble and would be happy for another “deserving” musician to win the Breakthrough prize.
He added: “I was very happy to be nominated, but at the same time I kind of put it to the back of my mind at the moment because there is so much more to concentrate on.
“I didn’t think I’d win the first one so I’ve no idea what will happen on the night.
“If I win, it will be amazing and if I don’t, hopefully someone else deserving gets it.
“But whatever happens I’m going to make the most of the night as I’m still in shock about winning, If I’m honest.”

Taylor Swift's music kept under lock and key

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s unreleased music travels under lock and key.
Her pal and collaborator Ed Sheeran has revealed the secret to how the 27-year-old singer keeps her music out of the public domain until it is officially released.
He told Capricho magazine: “She would never send new songs, no. I hear them but has to be with her.
“I remember when I did a song with her for her album, I was in San Francisco and they sent someone with a locked briefcase with an iPad and one song on it and they flew San Francisco and played the song I’ve done with her and asked if I like it and I was like ‘yeah’ and they took it back, that’s how I hear it.”
Meanwhile, Ed previously opened up about his close bond with Taylor, admitting her 4th July party is the only celebrity party he attends every year.
He said: “That was at Taylor Swift’s 4th July party. That’s the only [celebrity party] I do.”
And Ed admits both of them have a competitive streak and says they can take it “too far” sometimes.
He shared recently: “There’s an underdog element to it. Taylor was never the popular kid in school. I was never the popular kid in school. Then you get to the point when you become the most popular kid in school – and we both take it a bit too far.
“She wants to be the biggest female artist in the world and I want to be the biggest male artist in the world. It also comes from always being told that you can’t do something and being like, ‘F you. I can.'”

Big Sean tells younger self his job as a rapper will start before he is 14

OHMYGOSSIP — Big Sean has told his younger self his job as a rapper will start before he’s a teenager.
The 28-year-old rapper – whose real name is Sean Michael Leonard Anderson – has penned an open letter to his 18-year-old self in which he tells his former self his career will start to unfold before he enters high school, aged 14, and has even set his sights on a future in the music industry.
In the note, which has been published on MIC.com, the ‘Blessings’ musician wrote: “Dear Sean,
Listen, I know you’ve spent your whole life trying to push back those telling you to not be so hard on yourself. Relax, come hang, chill more. You didn’t listen to them then, and I doubt you’re going to listen to me now, but I want to tell you this from the heart – our heart: There is more to your life than your future.
You’ve been telling yourself that by 21 you have to be on, and at 22 you have to have a song on the radio. Rapping’s been your job since before it was your job, before you were out of high school, before you faced the decisions that would change everything. That hustle will create your path for you and be a testament to the light you have to share. But it will leave you with a lot more to work on.”
And Sean – who signed to GOOD Music in 2007 and released his debut studio album ‘Finally Famous’ in 2011 – has warned being “present” is a lot more hard work than “killing a verse” or “writing a good song” and his musical success won’t last forever.
He continued: “Being present takes as much effort and talent as killing a verse, or writing a good song. I know it doesn’t feel as natural, but remember those times when you gave yourself the opportunity to live and feel free — to enjoy your friends, enjoy your family, enjoy young love. That’s where you found the inspiration to write and go harder. At 28, this is what you’re working on now. The high won’t last.”

Wilko Johnson Band's 30th anniversary show

OHMYGOSSIP — Wilko Johnson is putting on his own 70th birthday party show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on September 26.
The legendary guitarist will mark reaching the milestone age and the 30th anniversary of the Wilko Johnson Band with a special performance with the group’s bassist Norman Watt-Roy and drummer Dylan Howe, and special guests which are yet to be announced.
In October 2014, Wilko announced he was cancer free at the Q Awards, after battling with terminal pancreatic cancer, which makes the concert even more of a celebration of his life.
Speaking at the awards bash – where he was presented with Icon Award – he said: “It’s been an extraordinary couple of years. At the beginning of last year I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I had about two months to live.”
Wilko’s life was saved by a fan, who is also a cancer specialist.
He said: “Roger Daltrey got in touch with me and said, ‘I want to do an album.’ I said, ‘You better to do it quick!’
“We did do it quick, we did it right at the end of last year. I was thinking, ‘Wow, it ain’t been bad, I’m now in extra time. This is great, I’m having a really good year and if the last thing I ever do is make an album with Roger Daltrey that’s pretty good. I can go home and die.’ ”
He added: “Then comes Charlie Chan. Charlie is a photographer and a cancer doctor, who has taken an interest in my case – he’s very curious as to why I’m not dead. He says, ‘Listen, can you go and see my friends at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and let them have a look at it.’
“This tumour at this stage is huge, it’s so big it makes my guitar point the wrong way on stage. So I went to the hospital and they ran the tests again and I get told they think they can do it, and they did it.”
Talking about the radical surgery he underwent, he continued: “So I had an 11-hour operation and they took this tumour out of me, it weighed three kilos, that’s the size of a baby, I was carrying it on stage every night. They got it all and cured me, so thank you Addenbrooke’s. I spent several weeks in hospital and I remember people telling me, ‘The Roger Daltrey album is doing really well.’ But I missed all that! A few weeks ago, I came home and I’m hoping to regain my strength completely soon and get back on the road. If there’s a moral to this story it’s that you never know what can happen.”

The ‘Fighter’ hitmaker has taken to her Twitter account to share a picture of herself sat at her piano while writing the lyrics for her first studio album since 2012’s ‘Lotus’, and has teased that it will be personal record as she said it’s from her “heart”.
Alongside the professional photo, she wrote: “Finishing touches to my heart (sic).”
Aside from sharing a picture on her Instagram account last year of her taking pen-to-paper in a mystery recording studio, the 36-year-old pop superstar last spoke of a new record in 2014 when she revealed she’d teamed up with Pharrell Williams – who she worked with on the American version of ‘The Voice’ – and was very keen on one of the tracks he’d had suggested.

Robbie Williams to return to US

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams wants to crack America.
The ‘I Love My Life’ hitmaker is plotting a move back to the US and this time he wants to become famous across the pond as when he previously lived in Los Angeles with his actress wife Ayda Field, 37, and their children – four-year-old daughter Teddy and two-year-old son Charlton – no one recognised him on the street, let alone his music.
He said: “Nobody knows who I am. I can look at them and they can look at me.
“I get to stare at them and they get to stare at me, but they don’t stare because they don’t know who I am,.
“I don’t like this. I want this to change.”
The 42-year-old hunk last attempted to make it in the States in the 90s, but failed miserably, and the on-and-off Take That star admits at the time he was struggling with fame and everything that came with it, but he now “regrets” not attempting to make it out there.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “Back in the 1990s when I went out there to promote my album I was not really dealing with fame very well at all – if I am honest I was not really dealing with much very well.
“It was when I realised that the more fame I got, the more insane I became.
“So I just stopped as I needed a place where I was not famous, because that would be the most sane thing to do.
“So I just lived over there and nobody knows me.”
“Now I have changed my mind and I really regret it.”

Lady Gaga's Metallica duet plotted at Bradley Cooper's party

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga’s Metallica Grammys duet came about after she got chatting to Lars Ulrich at Bradley Cooper’s house party.
The 30-year-old pop superstar is gearing up to perform with the heavy metal band at this year’s ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday (12.02.17), and has shared how their idea to perform together was sparked from a conversation she had with the group’s 53-year-old drummer at the 43-year-old ‘American Sniper’ actor’s home.
She shared: “[I] was at Bradley Cooper’s house with Lars Ulrich, and we were just, like, hanging out … ”
The ‘Million Reasons’ hitmaker didn’t give away any more information about her performance with the ‘Enter Sandman’ group – also comprised of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo – but she has high hopes as the last time she saw them at a gig they were “better than they’ve ever played before”.
Gaga told Zane Lowe on his Apple Beats 1 Radio show: “I’ve got to tell you something: I went to see Metallica live.
“I mean, I’ve seen them live recently, and we were watching the how and I’ll tell you something, those guys play better than they’ve ever played in their whole lives.”
The ‘Nothing Else Matters’ rockers previously teased they have something “unique” in the pipeline for the slot at the prestigious bash.
They said: “We promised you something unique for Grammy night and we are absolutely thrilled to confirm that Lady Gaga will be joining us on stage.
“It was a total honour to be nominated, but now this?”
Metallica have been nominated for Best Rock Song for ‘Hardwired’ – from their latest LP ‘Hardwired… To Self Destruct’.
Gaga hasn’t been nominated because her latest record ‘Joanne’ isn’t eligible as it wasn’t released between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016.

Disclosure are taking a break from music

OHMYGOSSIP — Disclosure are taking a break from music.
The electronic duo – made up of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence – have confirmed via a handwritten letter that they will largely be taking it easy in 2017 besides “a few special things”.
The note, which has been posted on Twitter, reads: “Thank you all so much for the support over the last 7 years.
“We were 15 and 18 when we began this incredible journey and its been filled with shows bigger and better than our childhood minds could have ever imagined, amongst many other unbelievable moments and achievements.
“We really can not thank every single one of you enough. You changed our lives for ever and enabled us to do what we love best on this planet.
“This year, we are only going to be doing a few special things, including the return at our festival Wild Life and a few other bits we can’t mention just yet. (sic)”
But the siblings added that their main priority for 2017 was to enjoy some time away from the spotlight.
The note continued: “For the most part however – we’re going to be taking some time out and enjoying some much needed rest.
“We will be back! … but until then … Lots of love, Guy & Howard xx (sic)”
The Grammy-nominated duo have enjoyed incredible success since the release of their debut album ‘Settle’ and previously admitted that working with Sam Smith has been a particular highlight.
The duo collaborated with Sam on the single ‘Latch’ and more recently, on the track ‘Omen’ from their second album ‘Caracal’.
The siblings previously said: “To be honest, Sam is the only person from the last record that we thought we might use on this one again, purely because he’s such a good friend of ours.
“It would feel like a waste to not get him on board. We work with him all the time anyway and I’d say he’s probably our favourite person to write with in the world.”

Justin Timberlake goes back to his roots

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Timberlake has gone back to his roots for his new album.
The 36-year-old singer-and-actor has been heavily influenced by the blues music of his home town of Memphis, Tennessee, but has tried to put a “modern” twist on the classic sound for his upcoming material, which he has been working on with Pharrell Williams, Max Martin, and Timbaland.
He said of the record: “It sounds more like where I’ve come from than any other music I’ve ever made.
“It’s Memphis. It’s Southern American music. But I want to make it sound modern — at least that’s the idea right now.”
The ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ hitmaker – who has 23-month-old son Silas with wife Jessica Biel – also suggested he won’t be going on a huge world tour in support of his next record as he finds life on the road leaves him “debilitated”.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: “Going on tour is a circus. You set up the tents, you play the show, you tear the tents down and go on to the next place. It’s like Groundhog Day. After the 125th show, you feel debilitated.”
Before launching his solo career, Justin was a member of boyband N’Sync but he decided to leave in 2002 because he was “growing out” of their music and wanted to go in his own direction.
He explained: “We were on a stadium tour, and I just felt like the whole thing was too big.
“It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche. And, also, I was growing out of it. I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

Niall Horan's writing method

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan writes a paragraph about each of his songs before jotting down the lyrics.
The 23-year-old singer recently took a six-week break from working on his debut solo album, but now he’s back and has been plotting out exactly what he wants to achieve with each single.
Speaking about his method on ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on UK station BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday (08.02.17), the Irish star said: “I am in the middle of writing my album at the moment, so I have spent a lot of my time here [in Los Angeles]. There are a lot of writers out here, which is good.
“The way I write is I write concepts before, and come up with whether it will be a life story or making something up. I will always write something up, before I start writing [the song], maybe a paragraph about what I want the song to be based around and work from start to finish, let it flow out of your mouth and write it down as you’re going.”
The former One Direction star has admitted he has good days and bad days writing, but he’s on to something “good” at the moment.
He explained: “I feel like, at the moment, I go through phases where I am writing some good stuff and some bad stuff. But at the moment, I think I am writing some good stuff, hopefully. It’s been great, absolutely hectic. I’ve got to keep writing.”
The ‘This Town’ hitmaker decided to push back the release of his debut because he doesn’t want to “rush it”.
He previously said: “I am taking my time on it. I don’t want to rush it. I said it would be out at the start of the summer but I might push it back now a small bit. I don’t really have an idea. I’ll keep writing until it’s there and when it’s there I’ll let everyone know. It’s not going to be all singles.”

Bebe Rexha's emotionally driven album

OHMYGOSSIP — Bebe Rexha’s album is split in two halves because she was heartbroken in the beginning and got over her ex in second part.
The 27-year-old singer has opened up about why she has decided to stagger the release of her new record ‘All Your Fault’.
The ‘Hey Mama’ hitmaker was feeling “bitter” on the first few tracks because her relationship had ended and her manager decided to stop working with her, but after being comforted by her mother and falling for someone else she was inspired to write her latest single ‘I Got You’, which changed the direction of her record.
Speaking to Alex and Andrea on KISS FM, she explained: “I have an album coming out called ‘All Your Fault’. When I got my heart broken by my ex I was bitter so then I wrote the first part of this album. It’s really moody, dark, rhythmic, urban.
“Then as I started changing and I was over him I got a crush on somebody else. I really like this other guy and I know that he likes me but we had our walls up. That’s why I wrote ‘I Got You, because I can see you hurting, I’ve been through the same thing’.
“It was interesting because I got my heart broken and at the time I had a music manager and my best friend was my assistant. At the same time my ex broke up with me, my manager came to my house one day and was like ‘I don’t want to manage you anymore’ and my best friend decided to go work for my manager.
I was like in LA crying. Thank god, my mother flew up from New York city. She was like, ‘You need to have somebody watch you because you are too depressed right now’. But I went to the studio and this first part was like bam, bam, bam, was like six songs in a row, we did it. And then the second part is completely like a change, stronger.”
Meanwhile, the blonde beauty plans on recording new music with ‘Jealous’ hitmaker Labrinth, 28 – whose real name is Timothy Lee McKenzie – and is hoping to pop into the studio with him soon.
She said: “We’re having one day off, so I really want to get in with Labrinth. I think he’s an incredible writer, there’s something about him.”

Katy Perry teases new single with cryptic video

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry has posted a cryptic video teaser online alluding to the fact she is about to drop a new single.
The 32-year-old pop megastar took to Instagram on Tuesday (07.02.17) to share a clip of her foot chained to a disco ball and she captioned the picture with the date of February 10, along with a lyric.
Alongside the footage, she wrote: “Why are we all so chained… #FRIDAYTHE10TH (sic)”
According to several reports, the song is called ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ and was written by Australian pop star Sia and produced by Katy’s long-time producer Max Martin, who did 2008’s ‘I Kissed A Girl’ among others.
The ‘Roar’ hitmaker’s announcement follows the news that she has been confirmed to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (12.02.17) where she looks set to debut the new song – her first since last year’s ‘Rise’.
The Recording Academy confirmed that the pop beauty will take to the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for a special performance.
A post on the their Twitter, which was re-tweeted by the star, read: “CONFIRMED: @katyperry returns to #GRAMMYs stage don’t miss her performance on Music’s Biggest Night Feb. 12 on @CBS! if you’re excited (sic)”
As for when to expect an album from Katy, she is said to be rewriting it to include songs about the recent shock US election.
The ‘Firework’ singer was expected to drop her fifth studio album by the end of last year but reportedly pushed it back after she started penning songs about President Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, who the raven-haired star is a big supporter of.
A music insider previously said: “Katy has reworked the direction of her album so it reflects what she believes to be unsettling and changing times.
“She had the album ready to release by the end of the year but … has been inspired to write new songs which she wants to add to it.”
The peroxide blonde beauty – who hasn’t released an album since 2013’s ‘Prism’ – hopes her new tunes can help to bring “peace and unity” to America, following the countless protests since the Republican’s victory.
The insider added: “As such a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter, she was heavily involved with the presidential election but was shocked at how volatile it became.
“She hopes her new music can inspire healing, peace and unity after Trump’s win.”
