Niall Horan missed BRITs to record solo songs

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan couldn’t be at the BRIT Awards to collect One Direction’s prize with Liam Payne because he was working “late in the studio”.
Liam, 23, took to the stage at The O2 on Wednesday night (22.02.17) to accept the fan voted British Video Award for the boy band’s single ‘History’ and admitted he was blown away by the “devotion” of the Directioners.
Niall missed the ceremony because he was hard at work on his solo material but he did manage to make it to the Warner Music & Ciroc BRIT Awards After-Party held at Freemason’s Hall in London to let his hair down after a productive recording session.
Speaking to The Sun Online about his BRITs no-show, the 23-year-old Irish singer said: “I missed the show because I was in the studio until late. I’m gutted I couldn’t be on stage with Liam to collect the award. I basically have no life now. It’s pretty boring. I’m just working really hard on my album.”
Niall was among a galaxy of stars to go to the exclusive party with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Noel Gallagher, Brooklyn Beckham, Ashley Roberts and Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto all attending the bash.
In his acceptance speech, Liam – who is expecting his first child with girlfriend Cheryl – gave hope to 1D fans pining for the boys to get back together by saying “One Direction is who we are and who we will always be”.
In the wake of the BRIT win – which saw the group beat former member Zayn Malik to the accolade – Louis Tomlinson took to Twitter to post a video from his home in Doncaster, England, to offer his gratitude for all the Directioners who voted for ‘History’ to win.
In it, he said: “Absolutely incredible. I mean, I’ve said it so many times but you guys continue to surprise with how incredible you are over and over again. This means a hell of a lot to all of us and again sorry I couldn’t be there tonight. I just wanted to spend the night with the family and do something special for them. But you guys – you are incredible. Thank you so much. Thank you for all the support through everything.”
Harry Styles also took to his Twitter account to praise the 1D fans for their unwavering support even though the band are on hiatus.
He tweeted: “Thank you so much to everyone that voted for the BRIT award tonight, your support is unbelievable. Always has been. Thank you, Love you. H (sic)”

Robbie Williams BRITs set plagued with technical difficulties

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams’ BRIT Awards performance was plagued with technical difficulties.
The 43-year-old singer performed a medley of his greatest hits including ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’, ‘Love My Life’ and new single ‘Mixed Signals’ at the ceremony at London’s The O2 on Wednesday (22.02.17) in celebration of his BRITs icon award, but his long-anticipated set was met with multiple hiccups.
During his performance of ‘Feel’ his mic was muted for several seconds, followed by two dancers falling over on stage and Robbie was also seen fiddling with his ear piece which didn’t seem to be working properly.
And, as the star continued his set for the ITV2 after party show, a microphone of a presenter talking outside the venue could be heard over his singing.
Before the show even begun, the ‘I Love My Life hitmaker’s band were reportedly forced to get changed in a disabled toilet at the bash to make room for The 1975’s 100-piece choir in the dressing rooms.
A source said the night before: “Being backed by a choir is completely unexpected and that’s what excites Matt about the idea. Robbie’s band are in a disabled shower room.
“A posh drape has been fitted to cover up the toilet and shower area to make it look swanky but there is no disguising the wet room floor.”
And the glitches came after the star was reportedly in “serious pain” during rehearsals on Monday (20.02.17).
A source said: “Robbie is in absolute agony and it’s causing him and his team a lot of stress.
“He struggled through his rehearsal on Monday but you could tell he was in serious pain.
“It’s not improved at all since then and he has cancelled some of his promo today so that he can rest up.
“But Robbie is a consummate professional. He is determined his performance will go ahead and has said he won’t let anything stop him taking to the stage.”

Pepsi: Chris Martin was perfect fit for George Michael BRITs tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Former Wham! backing singer Pepsi DeMacque says Chris Martin was the “perfect fit” to pay tribute to her close pal George Michael.
The 58-year-old singer-and-dancer – who joined the legendary 80s pop group in 1983 – reunited with her old band mates Andrew Ridgeley and Shirlie Holliman on stage at the BRIT Awards at London’s The O2 on Wednesday evening (22.02.17), where they each read out their fond memories of the ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker.
Pepsi says it was “really hard” to talk about George – who tragically passed away at the age of 53 last Christmas Day (25.12.16) – as they were so overcome with emotion.
Speaking to Roman Kemp on Capital radio station, she said: “It was really hard to tell how it was because the emotions were so high, and paying respect to someone that you love so much but also someone you know so personally but who everyone knows as an artist, so I was kind of stuck in the middle of all these emotions, but I think it was a great tribute to him.”
Coldplay’s Chris, 39, was accompanied by just a piano player singing George’s 1986 hit ‘A Different Corner’ and midway through the performance a recording of George singing the same track was broadcast on a giant video screen and the pair sang in perfect harmony.
Poignant footage of George speaking was also aired as Chris sang.
Of the choice of the ‘Up&Up’ singer, Pepsi added: “He was the perfect fit, and the fact that he wanted to do it was amazing because I know George just loved his voice, so it was just perfect. But I have to say there was incredible amounts of love in the room and we really needed it.”
Wham were speaking to Capital’s Roman Kemp in a world exclusive first interview after paying tribute to George Michael on stage at the BRIT Awards 2017. Roman Kemp’s Capital Evening Show was live from backstage at the BRITs. Listen to Roman Kemp on Capital, Mon-Thurs 7pm-10pm, Sundays 9am-12pm

Craig David: David Bowie was a secret fan of mine

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie was a secret fan of Craig David’s music.
The ‘Nothing Like This’ hitmaker has revealed he had asked Bowie’s management to sample ‘Let’s Dance’ for his track ‘Hot Stuff’ and was “in awe” when the late singer said he loved the song.
He said: “To be in any category near a legend who’s left so much amazing music … I mean I had a song called ‘Hot Stuff’ that sampled ‘Let’s Dance’, and it was a few years back and I remember getting that message from him and his approval that I could use it but also that he loved the song. I was in awe. This is David Bowie we’re talking about. If anyone deserves that award, it would be David Bowie. I’m just happy to be part of it.
“It was a message that came through my manager from his manager and I was just like … you grow up as a kid wanting to make music and your dreams and aspirations but you never actually think that you’re going to meet your idols or get a message personally from them.”
And Craig went on to praise the late ‘Starman’ singer for “trying to change things for … the better for people”.
Speaking to NME at the BRIT Awards, he added: “David Bowie was always at the forefront and trying to change things from so many different angles for the better for people – that’s what puts him to legendary status. He used his platform to do that rather than just be a musician. I hope it’s an amazing night for him tonight.”
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old singer previously revealed he feels like his comeback has helped to connect two different generations of fans.
He said: “I’m seeing two generations connecting – the people who have been with me since 1999 and the crew who are just discovering me, both connecting on the same music.”

BRIT Awards photobomber Christine and the Queens

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine and the Queens’ aim for the BRIT Awards 2017 is to photobomb as many stars as possible.
The ‘Tilted’ hitmaker was very excited to attend her first BRITs on Wednesday night (22.02.17) and her goal at the ceremony was to crash as many pictures as she could and dance along to every performance
Speaking on the red carpet before the show kicked off at The O2 in London, the French musician said: “I feel like a happy outsider … Being nominated feels like winning to me anyway because I’m French and tiny! I just want to photobomb everyone, dance to every song and just enjoy myself. Photobombing is what I’m going to do all evening! Before I was watching the BRITs on YouTube. You’ve got Katy Perry, Skepta and Robbie Williams, who is winning, like, a Lifetime Achievement Award, that’s special.”
The 28-year-old singer – real name Héloïse Letissier – chose an outfit inspired by the 16th Century characters in French writer Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Three Musketeers’, which focuses on sword-wielding hero D’Artagnan who joins the Musketeers of the Guard.
She said: “To be here and on the red carpet is amazing. My outfit is kind of like of Musketeer, it’s meant to be unfolded.”

George Michael resurrected at BRITs for duet with Chris Martin

OHMYGOSSIP — George Michael was resurrected at the 2017 BRIT Awards to duet with Chris Martin as the Coldplay frontman paid tribute to the late music legend.
The BRITs remembered the ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker – who tragically passed away at the age of 53 last Christmas Day (25.12.16) – by inviting his former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley and the duo’s backing singers Helen ‘Pepsi’ DeMacque and Shirlie Holliman, known as Pepsi & Shirley, to give a speech in memory of George who they described as “the greatest singer/songwriter of his generation”.
Andrew then introduced “one of the greatest singer/songwriters of his generation” Chris to the stage at The O2 in London.
Chris, 39, accompanied by just a piano player began singing George’s 1986 hit ‘A Different Corner’ and then midway through the performance a recording of George singing the same track was broadcast on a giant video screen and the pair sang in perfect harmony.
Poignant footage of George speaking was also aired as Chris sang.
Before the tribute, guests and fans in attendance at the show were asked to stay silent for the entirety of the performance.
At the end of the song the star-studded audience, which included the likes of Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Rag’n’Bone Man, Rita Ora and Charli XCX, rose as one to give a standing ovation.
Remembering George, Andrew, 54, had said: “We were two boys who shared a love of life-affirming music and a sense that we understood it. ‘Careless Whisper’ was the song that got us signed, showed his extraordinary talent and the song which launched his solo career … He understood love, loss and grief and in his music, he helped to heal the wounds life left on us.”

Katy Perry's BRIT Awards flu hell

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry ended up throwing up in the backstage toilets at her first ever BRIT Awards.
The ‘Dark Horse’ hitmaker has revealed she was suffering from the flu when she made her debut at the British music ceremony in London in 2009, and was hurled up over the loo for ages before being found by Australian pop beauty Natalia Imbruglia and going on stage to collect her award for International Female Solo Artist.
Appearing on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio One Breakfast Show on Wednesday (22.02.17), she spilled: “The first time I went to the BRITs I had a flu of maybe 102, and I was so sick and I walked the carpet and they were like ‘You can’t go home’ as they knew I was gonna win, and I was like, ‘Why am I here, I’m literally dying’.
“I went to the girls bathroom and went under a credenza and Natalie Imbruglia pulled up the curtain and was like, ‘Are you alright babe?’ and I was shivering with cold sweats and was like, ‘I’m supposed to be here at the BRITs, I think I’m getting an award.
“I had to stay and get the award and I just went straight to bed. it was tragic, it was my only connection with the BRITs.”
The 32-year-old pop beauty returns to the ceremony this evening (22.02.17) where she is expected to perform her brand new single ‘Chained to the Rhythm’, and said that she finds it nerve-wracking performing front of her peers, especially Beyonce.
She spilled: “TV performances are my Achilles heel, because obviously I see my peers who I admire sitting in the audience, and I’m like ‘I’ll never be Beyonce, I’m just less than Beyonce.
“I’m me in my own way and I love being me, but shoot, Beyonce is so much better than everyone else, so it’s hard performing sometimes.”
The BRIT Awards, sponsored by Mastercard, are aired on ITV1 from 7.30pm tonight.

Robbie Williams band lose BRITs dressing room to The 1975 choir

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams’ band don’t have a proper dressing room at the BRIT Awards to make room for The 1975’s 100-piece choir.
The ‘I Love My Life’ hitmaker – who has already nabbed the BRITs Icon Award – has reportedly had his crew moved into a disabled toilet to get changed for their performance at the glitzy ceremony at London’s The O2 tonight (22.02.17) as the ‘Love Me’ group are bringing a huge number of people on stage for their set.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Being backed by a choir is completely unexpected and that’s what excites Matt about the idea. Robbie’s band are in a disabled shower room.
“A posh drape has been fitted to cover up the toilet and shower area to make it look swanky but there is no disguising the wet room floor.”
The 1975’s frontman Matt Healy’s elaborate set plans come after he admitted he doesn’t feel his band belong in the “BRIT Awards world”.
The 27-year-old singer and his band mates – Adam Hann, George Daniel and Ross MacDonald – are up for Album of the Year and British Group, but Matt feels a little out of his comfort zone because he suffers from impostor syndrome, which is the inability to internalise accomplishments.
He said recently: “It’s an important moment for us because we’re a subversive act to have broken through on such a level that the BRITs would want us to perform.
“I’m not from the BRITs world. I shouldn’t be and everyone needs to know that. I couldn’t get arrested until I was 23. Actually, I did get arrested when I was 23, but you know what I mean. I suffer massively from impostor syndrome.”

Katy Perry's 'sexual independence' explored on new LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry’s “sexual independence” will be conveyed on her new album.
The 32-year-old pop beauty – who is dating British actor Orlando Bloom – has just released lead single ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ from her upcoming fifth studio album and has teased she is about to get personal about her love life and explore her new found confidence she’s found in her 30s.
She professed: “There’s like a confidence that you get, a clarity … and I think that’s going to be translating into my music. There’s like a beautiful independence, a sexual independence, like an identity. You know all the ladies in their thirties that are hearing this they’re like, ‘yeah yeah yeah’, I totally, I feel you, and so all that’s being translated into the music.”
It’s been four years since Katy wrote her last album ‘Prism’ back in 2012, but she is embracing her return.
Speaking to Roman Kemp on Capital radio station, she said: “It’s like the start of a new era for me and this is like, one of the first interviews I’ve done being back I guess, I never really left but people love this idea that I like, left and came back and like, it’s my big return but I was like, I was just here! I was just, like, grocery shopping!”
However, the ‘Dark Horse’ hitmaker isn’t in a rush to release her new LP.
She explained: “I’m slowly going to put it out. So I’ve got lots of new material and I’m very excited and I love the reception, and I think, I guess, I’m just striving for more consciousness than ever and I’m calling this era ‘purposeful pop’.”

Debbie Harry wishes she'd written a Muse song

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Harry wishes she had written a Muse song.
The Blondie frontwoman has praised the rock band – comprised of Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard – for having “beautiful songs”, and picked them out as the one artist whose song writing she envies.
When asked which song by another artist she wishes she had written as part of NME magazine’s ‘Soundtrack Of My Life’ series, the 71-year-old singer said: “Something from Muse I guess. They have a marvellous sound that’s so distinctive, and beautiful songs.”
And the ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ hitmakers aren’t the only musicians Debbie has heaped praise on, as she previously said David Bowie and Iggy Pop “played a big part” in the success of her band.
She said at the time of Bowie’s passing in 2016: “I can’t say enough things about David Bowie to show how much I love him.
“When the ‘Low’ album was out and Iggy Pop was about to tour, David played keyboards in Iggy’s band. They asked Blondie to open for them, and, as they say, the rest is history. Without this visionary and his friend Iggy Pop where would Blondie be today?
“Silly question and one that can’t be answered really, but there is no doubt in my mind that Bowie played a big part in our future successes. As for now, love you David Bowie.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Heart of Glass’ singer recently dismissed ideas she is a pop icon, saying she “should be dead” before that title is bestowed upon her.
She said: “The first time I heard that phrase was in the nineties, and I was sort of horrified. All I could think of was, you know, a religious figure or something. And, oh God, I can’t bear that. I don’t know if I believe that’s a good word for it.
“I think I like the idea of being a star, a superstar or a pop star. It seems more in keeping with your real, relative value. Icon is like, you need to die first, right? You should be dead and then you can become an icon. And I’m not dead yet.”

Ed Sheeran to perform new track with guest at BRITs

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is to debut a brand new song at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday (22.02.17) with a special guest.
The 26-year-old singer will drop two tracks on Friday (24.02.17) after his performance at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s The O2 with fans getting to hear one of them for the first time on the night.
Appearing on BBC Radio One, he teased: “I’ve got two things dropping on Friday (24.02.17) that are pretty interesting. One that gets debuted at the BRITs, which I think nobody is expecting. I think it’ll be decent.
“I’ve managed to keep it secret up until now, which is good.
“But tomorrow night , I think we’re the penultimate act.”
Ed has already unveiled ‘Shape of You’, ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘How Deep Is You Love?’ from his forthcoming album ‘Divide’, which is slated for release on March 3.
Meanwhile, later on in the chat with presenter Clara Amfo, he confessed that he would love to work with Rihanna.
The flame-haired hunk may have had a number one single with ‘Shape of You’ but he’d love the Bajan beauty to also record a version of it as he’s such a big fan of her work.
He said: “I’ve loved Rihanna since ‘Pom de Replay’ and I kind of still want her to do ‘Shape of You’, she can just have it, she can take it from me.”
And when Clara suggested they do a remix together, he added: “I would love that, I think she’s great…
“She’s super fun too, every now and then you see Instagram photos of her doing really wild stuff she looks like she’s fun.”
And the ‘Castle On the Hill’ hitmaker also revealed a surprising idea for a collaboration – pop duo and former ‘X Factor’ contestants Jedward, aka twin twins John and Edward Grimes.
He asked the presenter: Have you got Jedward coming in later? I’m really excited about that.
“You know they have one phone between them and when I had a phone, they’d text me and interrupt each other, like, ‘No John, he does not want to speak to you.'”
