Shania Twain's divorce inspired new tracks

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain reflects on the breakdown of her marriage in her new music.
The 51-year-old singer has revealed how splitting up from her first husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange in 2008, amid rumours he was having an affair with her close pal Marie-Anne Thiébaud, inspired her to get back into the studio.
Describing the story behind her song ‘Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl?’, she said: “It’s about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary. Having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.”
And her track ‘Swinging With My Eyes Closed’ documents the “fighter” in Shania.
She added: “The fighter in me wrote that song. I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can’t even see yet and they’re swinging with their eyes closed.”
And Shania – who is now happily married to Frederic Thiebaud – sees songwriting like “therapy” and admits it helped her start to come to terms with the betrayal.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “[Songwriting] is like therapy. It helped me come to terms with a lot of things emotionally. It’s sort of like when you finish crying. When you’re done, you’re done and you move on.”
Meanwhile, Shania previously insisted she doesn’t “regret” her husband cheating on her with her friend.
Asked what she would say if she ran into Marie Anne, Shania said: “I’d say, ‘I wish I’d never met you.’ I think there are just some people in life you would say, ‘I wish I hadn’t met this person or I would have been better off not ever knowing that person’.
“But I can’t say I would be better off because I think I learned a lot from all of that. I don’t regret it.”

Alison Krauss: Dolly Parton is 'naturally perfect'

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Krauss thinks Dolly Parton is “so naturally perfect”.
The ‘Windy City’ singer gushed about collaborating with the ‘9 To 5’ hitmaker but admits it can be a bit of a “Pandora’s box” trying to match her flawless harmonies.
She said: “I adore the process of it, it’s like trying to get inside someone else’s head. Like Dolly Parton, who sounds like it’s just the easiest thing in the world for her to sing something and it’s so naturally perfect.
“And then when you go and try and sing harmony with her, it’s like a Pandora’s box, nobody else does it like that. And you think, how in the world can I match it? And then the times you sing with somebody else and the more times you don’t match them, the more romantic it gets.”
And Alison enjoys being able to collaborate with different music artists and describes the whole experience as very intimate but a “fascinating process”.
Asked if collaborations are intimate, Alison told NPR’s Morning Edition: “And when you have headphones on and when you can hear every click of their teeth coming together, spit flying out of their mouth, it’s quite … amazing. It’s a fascinating process; I love it.”
Meanwhile, Alison is gearing up to release her first album in 17 years, which she says has a tinge of sadness but not in a “pitiful” way.
Alison explained: “It’s almost like you didn’t know it was sad because it doesn’t sound weak. It doesn’t have a pitiful part to it, where so many sad songs do.
“But these don’t. And I love that about it. I love that there’s strength underneath there. That whatever those stories are, they didn’t destroy. That that person made it right through it. I love that.”

Gavin Rossdale's secret love for One Direction

OHMYGOSSIP — Gavin Rossdale is a secret One Direction fan.
The Bush rocker – who has three sons, Kingston, 10, Zuma, eight, and Apollo, two, with ex-wife Gwen Stefani – enjoys a lot of the British boy band’s songs and thinks former member Zayn Malik’s debut single ‘Pillowtalk’ was the best thing he heard last year.
He admitted: “There’s a bunch of One Direction songs that I think are really good. And Zayn’s ‘Pillowtalk’ is probably the best record of last year.”
The 51-year-old musician can now play piano after being urged to take lessons by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin but wishes he’d learned much earlier.
He said: “My biggest regret is that I didn’t learn piano from an early age. Chris Martin is a friend and he encouraged me to have lessons in my forties.”
Gavin insists he doesn’t live up to any of the stereotypes of being a rock star.
He said: “[The biggest misconception about me is] that because I’m in a rock band I’m a loud, Jack Daniels-swigging misogynist. I’m none of these.”
But the ‘Swallowed’ hitmaker does like to be in control of what’s going on with his band.
He told Grazia magazine: “I get uptight if I delegate and somebody does something nonsensical.
“Recently a blurb went out about the new Bush record and I got frustrated when I found mistakes.”

Blossoms want to be as big as Oasis

OHMYGOSSIP — Blossoms want to be as huge as Oasis and say Liam and Noel Gallagher have taught them to think big as a band.
The ‘Charlemagne’ hitmakers – Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock – cite the legendary Manchester group as one of their biggest influences and they have an infinity with the rock ‘n’ roll siblings because they are from nearby Stockport in England.
As much as Liam and Noel’s music has had an impact of their songwriting the boys also have taken a lot from the pair’s confidence – with Noel making statements such as “we’re not arrogant, we just believe we’re the best band in the world” – and learned that they should aim to be as successful as possible and try and take their songs around the world.
In an interview with The I Paper, Tom – whose first concert was watching Oasis play a massive open air show at Manchester’s Heaton Park – said: “Oasis come from a similar area to us: Burnage is about is about six bus stops away from Stockport on the way to Manchester. We’ve grown up listening to their attitudes, what they say about there being no limit. I’ve never understood wanting to be an underground band. I just want to write big choruses and be massive.”
Blossoms supported fellow Manchester indie legends The Stone Roses at the Etihad Stadium last summer and since the release of their self-titled debut album their fan base has been growing and growing.
And the band believe the secret to their popularity is that they are just the same as their fans and play as many gigs as possible.
Tom said: “People like people who work hard. We did 150 gigs last year – 43 flights and 45 festivals. No other band will have done as many … There are more people who sit in economy class than business. We appeal to economy.”

Damon Albarn tells fan Gorillaz LP is 'finished'

OHMYGOSSIP — Damon Albarn has told a fan that Gorillaz’ new album is complete and they are “rehearsing” for live shows.
The 48-year-old singer has been keeping tight-lipped about his and Jamie Hewlett’s animated group’s new record, which would follow the release of their first song in six years, ‘Hallelujah Money’, which was released the night before President Donald Trump’s Inauguration at The White House on January 20.
However, he reportedly told a super fan – who goes under the Twitter handle, @_JackWinstanley – that they’ve finished their follow-up to 2011’s ‘The Fall’.
In a series of tweets alongside a picture of him and the Blur singer, he wrote: “DAMON F***ING ALBARN … he told me he’d got a new hat for the gorillaz tour and started dancing I’m literally crying … he says they’ve finished the album and they’re rehearsing right now!! 🙂 (sic)”
The ‘Feel Good Inc’ hitmakers launched a new Instagram account and website in September and the first post on the photo-sharing app was about their old EP and 2000’s ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’ from their self-titled debut LP.
The post read: “Tomorrow Comes Today. The 4 track EP which first unleashed Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and 2D onto an unsuspecting world. Released in 2000. (sic)”
The lyrics include: “I have thought that the best way to protect our tree is by building walls.”
The group – which features the characters Murdoc, 2D, Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs – also posted a picture of the words “THE END … until next time (sic)” on their Twitter page, with many fans believing it was a cryptic message about their new record.
Blur frontman Damon has been recording fresh material since last September, and recently hinted that he might use songs Adele, 28, rejected on the new record.
When asked if he plans on using material recorded with the ‘Hello’ hitmaker, he said: “I never waste anything.”
It was recently revealed that De La Soul have worked on a song for the record along with Snoop Dogg.
The virtual band was conceived by Damon, 38, and visual artist Jamie, also 38, in 1998.
None of the personas are reflective of the real life musicians involved in the project.
Over the years a number of guest singers have worked with Gorillaz including Shaun Ryder – whose track ‘DARE’ was the group’s only UK number one – Mod Def and Gruff Rhys.

Rag 'n' Bone Man thought about quitting music

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag ‘n’ Bone Man was tempted to quit music before having success with his big blues voices.
The ‘Human’ hitmaker had been trying to make it as a hip-hop MC for 15 years before accidentally discovering his vocal gift, and has revealed he felt like giving up on his dreams on a few occasions because he was struggling to fit time in for his passion while also doing intense shifts as a care worker.
Asked if he’s ever wanted to give up music, he said: “Loads of times. I worked as a carer for children with Asperger’s Syndrome and doing 50-hour weeks while trying to fit in gigs at weekends was hard. But being a carer taught me a lot about compassion.”
The 32-year-old singer – whose real name is Rory Graham – picked up the Critics’ Choice and British Breakthrough Award at the BRIT Awards, sponsored by Mastercard, on Wednesday (22.02.17), and it’s still sinking in as he admits he finds the attention on his success “slightly uncomfortable”.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m a bit overwhelmed, if slightly uncomfortable.
“I thought this was something that was really far out of reach.
“I sat on the sofa talking to my pals about doing certain things musically and the BRIT Awards wasn’t even in the realms of possibility.”
Rory thinks the key to his success is making music that is honest and believable, which he insists is no PR stunt
He said: “People obviously believe me. There is no clever marketing. I simply go out and sing, that’s all.
“The whole thing has been a kind of grass-roots story. We used to do everything ourselves, from the poster to the CD.”

Rag 'n' Bone Man's EastEnders picture rider request

OHMYGOSSIP — Rag ‘n’ Bone Man has to have a framed picture of an ‘EastEnders’ star on his tour rider for his dressing room.
The ‘Human’ hitmaker insists he is no “diva” but one “stupid” thing that he insists on having is a photo of any actor from the BBC One soap to look at backstage.
Asked what’s on his rider, he said: “I’m not a diva, I only have one stupid thing on my rider which is a framed picture of and ‘EastEnders’ cast member.
“I’ve had loads so far, I’ve had Ian Beale, I’ve had Dot, I’ve got Sharon, it always changes.
“I hope someone will go a bit rogue and I’ll get Wellard the dog.
“I’m a big fan, I love ‘EastEnders’. The only show I watch religiously is ‘EastEnders’. It’s comfort TV, as I’ve watched it since I was a kid.”
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old blues singer took home two BRIT Awards on Wednesday night (22.02.17), the Critics’ Choice Award and British Breakthrough, and he is thinking about getting a tattoo of the gong as a keepsake as he loves the design by Zaha Hadid.
The heavily-tattooed hunk said: “I’ve thought about getting one to mark the BRITs.
“I like the design of the BRIT Award thing but I could look real pony is it wasn’t done too well.”
The ‘Skin’ singer – whose real name is Rory Graham – admits he finds the attention “slightly uncomfortable”.

The Lumineers' Angela recorded off the cuff

OHMYGOSSIP — The Lumineers’ new single ‘Angela’ was recorded without them knowing.
The ‘Hey Ho’ hitmakers spent so long working on the different parts of the song with producer Simone Felice and engineer Ryan Hewitt that they left to go for dinner and luckily left the recording running while frontman Wesley Shultz and drummer Jeremiah Fraites continued to jam the chorus, resulting in the track’s “rawness”.
Reflecting on the creative process behind the track, Wesley shared: “We came into the studio with a batch of songs, but ‘Angela’ was not one of them. But soon after we arrived, I found myself strumming the chords over and over and trying to work out verse melodies. Eventually, we decided it was a good verse, but wasn’t yet a song because it had no chorus.
Simone, the producer, and Ryan Hewitt, the engineer, began recording me and Jer just running the song over and over. It went on so long, the two of them left, without us noticing, and ate dinner and came back. By the time they returned we had come up with the chorus and bridge. Luckily they had left the tape running, so we could go back and figure out what we had done and loved so much. Unlike the rest of the album, this song was written entirely in the studio. Because of that, you can hear a rawness and danger in it, that tends to go away as you get more familiar with a song. Also, most of the lyrics were written on a motorcycle – I was riding my Triumph through the Catskills with Simone (on his Suzuki), singing lyrics over the melody.”
And producer Simone added: “I believe it all sprung from this cool, driving piano idea of Jer’s, which inspired the vocal melody of the verses, which opened the door to the song as a whole. It was the only cut off of ‘Cleopatra’ that was written from scratch in the studio, a sort of 11th hour Hail Mary that we didn’t really see coming, which might explain that special, spontaneous urgency hiding just beneath the surface. One of my strongest memories is how good it felt when we finally got the middle 8 right, ‘Vacancy, hotel room, lost in me, lost in you…’, I was in the control room listening to Wes sing and I just spontaneously started clapping, I couldn’t help it, felt like a hallelujah moment, we quickly put up a mic and recorded the claps together that you hear on the record.”
‘Angela’ is taken from their latest record ‘Cleopatra’ and is out now to stream and download.

John Mayer describes Frank Ocean's new music as 'space reggae'

OHMYGOSSIP — John Mayer has likened Frank Ocean’s new music to “space reggae”.
The 39-year-old musician recently listened to new music the ‘Novacane’ hitmaker is currently working on, and although the star has promised to keep details of the artistry close to his chest, because it’s Frank’s “business”, he has teased it is a medley between “future reggae” and an other worldly sound.
Speaking about the 29-year-old vocalist’s upcoming singles in an Instagram Live video, the dark-haired hunk said: “Favourite Frank Ocean song ‘Sweet Life’.
“He played me this song the other day. I won’t say the title, that’s his business. He’s doing stuff right now that’s … talk about space reggae, future reggae, that’s Frank Ocean. Frank Ocean’s future reggae.”
And the star has hinted he is slowly becoming a fan of the rock band The 1975, which is made up of Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel.
Speaking about the ‘Somebody Else’ vocalists, he said: “Every time I have heard The 1975 song I have enjoyed that it was on, I was excited that it was on and I have said to myself I like this band. And that to me is one step away from being a devoted fan to The 1975, and that’s what I call an honest answer.”
And Mayer has vowed to always play his 2006 hit single ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’ because he finds it “hard” not to include it in his performances.
When asked what his favourite song to play is, he said: “That’s a great question. Well, ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’ that’s a hard one not to play.”
However, his “favourite” song of all time is Eric Clapton’s ‘Old Love’ track, which he wished he had penned and released.
He explained: “Favourite song to play that isn’t my own. ‘Old Love’ by Eric Clapton’s, that’s a great one. I wish that was my own.”

Future's super personal album

OHMYGOSSIP — Future has promised his new album is “super personal”.
The 33-year-old rapper – whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn – has released record ‘HNDRXX’ just a week after his self-titled new LP and admitted the album features his most “honest” work to date and tackles subjects he doesn’t want to draw on again in the future.
He told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe: “‘HNDRXX’ is super personal. This is the ‘Honest’ album that I was supposed to be honest about.
“I believe ‘HNDRXX’ is more personal. When it was time to have the ‘Honest’ album [in 2014] I was just using it as a title, instead of being actually honest in the music. This is it. This is me opening up and letting it all out so I can just move past it and certain things don’t have to speak on it again.”
And Future believes one song from the album, ‘My Collection’, will attract more attention than he’d like.
He said of the track: “It might get more attention than I might want it to get.”
But the star is proud of the fact he is releasing his albums back-to-back and he is “excited” for his fans to get their hands on so much new material.
He said: “Man, it’s a special time for me and music.
“I’m glad I got a chance to wait and put everything out. And the way we did it, the way we set it up and me being able to give them the second part to ‘Future’, which is Future ‘HNDRXX’, is spectacular. I’m excited for the fans.”
The ‘Low Life’ rapper has four children with four different women, including two-year-old Future Jr. with ex-fiancee Ciara and admitted his responsibilities as a father is making his reassess his working schedule.
He said: “I understand my position as a provider, and I understand my role as a dad also, you know? I gotta be able to slow down sometimes and that’s me taking off and planning my schedule out more.
“Everybody wanna be the best dad ever. I’m just realising that I’m just not perfect.”

Little Mix vow to never break up

OHMYGOSSIP — Little Mix have vowed to never break up.
The girl band were thrilled to pick up British Single at the 2017 BRIT Awards on Wednesday (22.02.17) for their single ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ and after hitting the booze singer Jesy, 25, got a bit emotional and sobbed that she doesn’t want to “ever” split from her band mates, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, she gushed: “I’ve had a few bevvies but I don’t really care because I’m having the best night of my life.
“I don’t want to be a cheese ball but I literally love these girls more than anything in my whole entire life. We’re never splitting up ever.”
Meanwhile, Jade said she was forced to do their acceptance speech as despite having one ready the girls chickened out at the last minute.
She said: “They just threw me under the bus, we had a speech prepared and they just went ‘no we’re not talking.'”
The girls dedicated their gong to their exes on the night.
Jade said: “Thank you so much. We honestly didn’t think we were gonna get it, we were just sat there chin-wagging. We’d like to thank our label Sony, Syco, Simon (Cowell), our amazing A&R, our management, and us girls, because if it wasn’t for our friendship, we wouldn’t still be going.
“And lastly cheers to our exes for helping us to do an amazing song, this one’s for you lads.”
No doubt Perrie was especially pleased as the group – who also opened the show – beat her former fiance Zayn Malik’s ‘Pillowtalk’ to take home the gong.

Blossoms: Liam Gallagher deserves a BRIT every year

OHMYGOSSIP — Blossoms think Liam Gallagher deserves to win a BRIT Award every year because “he’s Liam Gallagher”.
The ‘Twice’ hitmakers attended this year’s ceremony at London’s The O2 arena on Wednesday night (22.02.17) where they were nominated for British Breakthrough Act and they were keen to profess their love for the former Oasis singer.
Speaking to NME magazine, frontman Tom Ogden said: “Liam Gallagher should win an award every year, just for being Liam Gallagher. What I’ve heard his solo album sounds exciting.”
Drummer Joe Donovan is too a massive fan of the ‘Supersonic’ hitmaker and his bitter rival and older sibling Noel Gallagher, but fears he would “lick his face” if they ever met.
He added: “We’re big fans of the Gallaghers and Oasis, so anything they do is gonna be dead exciting. I just hope I don’t bump into him at one of these things because I’m a full-on fan boy and I’d just lick his face.”
Meanwhile, on their follow-up to their well-received self-titled debut record, Ogden said fans can expect the second effort to be a “Kylie Minogue meets New Order sound”, which he’s confident in.
Asked if he finds it tough writing songs, he laughed: “I’m just crumbling inside – I might just joss it after this and just leave it. I’ve been writing for a second album. I’m confident.
“I just carried on writing after the first one, really.
“I’m always writing and it’s exciting. We’re not in a rush to release it, but we don’t want to wait too long. I’ve been demoing stuff and it sounds really good.”

Bastille's Dan Smith's 'awkward' chat with Katy Perry

OHMYGOSSIP — Bastille’s Dan Smith had an “awkward” encounter with Katy Perry at the BRIT Awards last night (22.02.17).
The ‘Good Grief’ singer didn’t want to miss out on the chance to speak with the 32-year-old pop superstar at the ceremony at London’s The O2 arena, but the shy rocker had no idea what to speak to her about and ended up scaring her off by telling her an Alan Partridge joke.
Speaking to the BBC at the star-studded ceremony, the 30-year-old musician shared: “We just bumped into Katy Perry, which isn’t your every day thing.
“Having to have a conversation with her, I was really awkward and everyone was shouting ‘Dan’ so I tried to make an Alan Partridge joke and I think it went a little bit over her head.”
The ‘Rise’ singer performed her latest single ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ for the second only time last night, and it wasn’t without any blips as she had people inside of houses parading the stage and one accidentally fell off into the crowd.
However, this year wasn’t as bad as the blonde beauty’s first ever performance at the BRITs.
The ‘Dark Horse’ hitmaker was suffering from the flu when she made her debut at the British music ceremony in London in 2009, and was hurled up over the loo for ages before being found by Australian pop beauty Natalia Imbruglia and going on stage to collect her award for International Female Solo Artist.
She recently spilled: “The first time I went to the BRITs I had a flu of maybe 102, and I was so sick and I walked the carpet and they were like ‘You can’t go home’ as they knew I was gonna win, and I was like, ‘Why am I here, I’m literally dying’.
“I went to the girls bathroom and went under a credenza and Natalie Imbruglia pulled up the curtain and was like, ‘Are you alright babe?’ and I was shivering with cold sweats and was like, ‘I’m supposed to be here at the BRITs, I think I’m getting an award.
“I had to stay and get the award and I just went straight to bed. it was tragic, it was my only connection with the BRITs.”
