RAYE ‘firmly in the running’ for James Bond theme

OHMYGOSSIP — RAYE is “firmly in the running” to record the next James Bond theme.
The 26-year-old singer – who scooped a record-breaking six prizes at the BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard on Saturday (02.03.24) – left her record label Polydor in 2021 after five years when they failed to release her debut LP, going on to score huge success with her album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ and producers from the spy franchise are said to love the way she has triumphed over adversity, making her the perfect person to help relaunch the franchise with a new 007.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper’s No Filter column: “Raye’s story is about female power. She’s shown formidable strength in the face of industry repression and rejection, and these are the qualities Bond bosses want for a modern-day franchise.”
And producers are confident in Raye’s hit-delivering abilities.
The source continued: “As well as producing her own number one album, Raye has written for the likes of Beyonce, produced for Rihanna and collaborated with Stormzy – she has the proven talent to deliver a huge contemporary hit.
“While no decisions will be made until next year, she is firmly in the running.”
After being released from her record contract, RAYE previously admitted she never imagined having a number one with her massive track ‘Escapism’ with rapper 070 Shake and a number two with her independently released debut album.
She told Amazon Music’s ‘+44 Podcast’ of the music industry: “At the end of the day, being a musician is tough anyway, because you’re putting out something to be judged, right? Being judged is always a difficult and intimidating thing for any human. But as a musician, you have to be at peace with the fact some people will hate what you do. Some people will like it. Some people will love it.
“But my purpose was, I have to love it. Otherwise, what’s the point? And I started releasing these songs with no intention of being these big chart hits.”

Dua Lipa has to ‘write a lot’ to find the good stuff

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa has to “write a lot” to find the good stuff.
The pop superstar keeps jotting down thoughts even if they aren’t good ideas and eventually inspiration comes to her.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about her songwriting process, she said: “When I’m in the writing process and I’m in it, the inspiration just kind of comes, I think. I have so many conversations with other artists, and some people go, ‘Oh, if I’m not feeling inspired, I just take a break or whatever.’ And I think that’s great. For me, I write myself into a good idea. I have to write a lot to feel like I’m getting to the place where I want to be, so I don’t really give myself the opportunity to not be inspired. It’s just kind of like, ‘Write, write, write. Something’s going to be good, something’s going to be absolute s***’ And you just have to take it.”
When she didn’t like what she had written, the ‘Houdini’ hitmaker used to beat herself up.
She shared: “Well, it took me a long time to get there. I used to be really, really hard on myself if I felt like I wasn’t getting to where I needed to be. Like, ‘Oh, I’m rubbish at this and I just can’t do it.’ I just kind of realised that it’s okay. If it’s a s*** day, it’s a s*** day, and that’s all right. You just keep writing until you get something good.”
So far fans have heard the lead single ‘Houdini’ and ‘Training Season’ from the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Future Nostalgia’, which is due out later this year, and saw Dua “digging deeper and deeper”.
Speaking on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, she told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I feel like with every album, I get to grow more and learn more about myself and I become more free as a songwriter and as a performer and as an artist.
“So, this one, I’m just like digging deeper and deeper. I love it. I’m proud of this one.”

The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe admits alcohol addiction impacted his singing

OHMYGOSSIP — The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe partly ditched alcohol because he couldn’t sing as well.
The 43-year-old rocker has struggled with addiction, which was part of the reason why the ‘Valerie’ hitmakers have taken so long to reform, with their first album in 16 years, ‘The Big Decider’, set to be released on April 26.
They had also tried solo projects, but Dave admits nothing compares to the feeling of being in indie group.
Asked why it has taken more than a decade for them to reunite, Dave told Classic Pop magazine: “We didn’t split up, we fell out. I tried to do a solo thing but, to be honest, you only meet these people once in your life. Any other band I tried to get going just wasn’t as good as The Zutons and the feeling of playing live with them. I had problems with addiction, so l wasn’t in the best place for a long time.
“Maybe that’s why it took 16 years.”
He added: “We did a 15th anniversary tour for Who Killed… The Zutons? in 2019 and I realised I couldn’t sing as
well as I should be able to, so that’s kinda why I stopped drinking.”
Dave insisted they are “not back together for the money”, before going on to reveal that he penned one of the songs on the LP, ‘Best Of Me’, when he was still in rehab.
He said: “Most of this album was written while I was still drinking, but Best Of Me, the last song, was written in rehab and is kind of about sobriety. But the album is meant to be uplifting.
Though You Can Do Anything is a bit of a forgotten album, there was a bit of moaning going on so I just didn’t want to do any of that.”
The album is produced by studio wizard Nile Rodgers, and the trio – completed by Sean Payne and Abi Harding – have also reunited with original producer Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds.
It will mark the group’s first studio effort since 2008’s ‘You Can Do Anything’.

Ed Sheeran has written Perrie Edwards’ debut solo single

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has written Perrie Edwards’ debut solo single.
The 33-year-old singer/ songwriter has teamed up with the 30-year-old Little Mix star to work on her solo music and she has chosen one of his songs for her first release.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column that Ed was so confident about the track, he told Perrie: “This is your first single.”
Perrie made some minor changes to the lyrics before recording the song and filming the video in Cape Town last month.
The song is expected to be released in the next few weeks.
It was previously revealed that Perrie was working with Ed on her debut album.
A source told The Sun on Sunday’s Bizarre column: “Perrie is taking her time with her debut solo record and she wants to get it just right.
“She really respects Ed and loves his music, so has been keen to collaborate with him on ideas.”
Perrie is signed to Columbia Records and previously shared how happy she is to be able to take her time on her new music, with no pressure from her label.
She told Grazia: “My label have told me to just go with the flow and enjoy discovering what my sound is going to be, the fact there’s no deadline in my life just makes me the happiest person. I feel so lucky to just be having fun.”
Perrie has been in the studio with Little Mix collaborator Kamille, alongside producer Fred Again and song writing legend Steve Mac.
Kamille previously told OfficialCharts.com: “They’re just so early in their discovery of what they want to do.
“There’s so many things that they’re interested in, I couldn’t pinpoint it to one thing. The best thing right now is that we’re having fun discovering. Hearing their voices on stuff you wouldn’t typically hear it on is just sending me. It’s so, so exciting for me. Can you imagine, as someone who’s used to just one thing with them? I couldn’t even pinpoint it, but just know it’s going to blow everyone’s minds.”

Olly Alexander drops ‘magical’ UK Eurovision song Dizzy

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Alexander has released his new single ‘Dizzy’, which will represent the United Kingdom at this year’s ‘Eurovision Song Contest’.
The 33-year-old singer and actor penned the track with seminal electronic producer Danny L Harle, and Olly has told how the tune, which he will perform at the 68th ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ in Malmo, Sweden, in May, is about “feeling such an intense swell of emotion” for someone special.
He said: “I wrote the song last summer with Danny L Harle, we started off with the word ‘Dizzy’ because it just popped into my head and I liked it.
“I was thinking about fun things that could make you dizzy and I remember saying “dizzy from your kisses” so the song is about feeling such an intense swell of emotion for someone they totally turn your world upside down and inside out.”
Olly and Danny were inspired by 80s acts Erasure, Adamski and Pet Shop Boys when penning the “magical” song.
He added: “Danny and I believe music should transport you somewhere magical and we wanted to describe this magical place in the song; a place of beautiful gardens, eternal flowers and time turning endlessly in an ecstatic loop.
“We took the feeling of Dizziness and put that into the production, so there’s a lot of undulating arpeggios, lilting harmonies and counter rhythms in the backing vocals.
“We were inspired by a lot of music we love from the 80’s like Erasure, Adamski and of course Pet Shop Boys.”
This year’s ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ will take place in Malmo following Sweden’s victory at the 2023 contest with the song ‘Tattoo’ by Loreen.
Sweden are guaranteed a place in the final due to their victory at last year’s contest, alongside the Big Five countries – United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France, Italy – meaning the United Kingdom does not have to qualify from the semi-final stage of the competition and will gain automatic access to the Saturday Grand Final.

Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson ‘dreads’ going on tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson “dreads” going on tour.
The ‘I Predict a Riot’ hitmaker hates the idea of getting out on the road but knows he will have a good time when he is on stage, but admitted his attitude has changed from when he was younger, when he used to get “really excited” about being away with bandmates Andrew White, Simon Rix, Nick Baines and Vijay Mistry, but then not enjoy the experience at all because it was too much “hard work”.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s always fun [with the band] and I don’t laugh as much when I’m not with them.
“When I was younger I used to get really excited about going on tour but then I’d hate it when I was there. I hated it.
“It was hard work, I was tired and it was awful.
“Now I’m older, I really dread going on tour but love it when I get there.”
The 46-year-old singer tries to stay sober before gigs now, even though it is an “easy” way to combat his nerves, because he felt so bad after “disappointing” fans at a show in Leeds in 2002 when he had drank too much ahead of going on stage.
He said: “I have always been a nervy guy and sometimes you make bad decisions.
“It is a very easy way out of a hard situation. It always had bad consequences.
“I would love to say it won’t happen again. The fact of the matter is I am in a band and we go on tour.
“I really have a fear of disappointing people and that was really [bad] when I disappointed people.
“But you know things happen in people’s lives, they mess up.
“I have also never put myself out there as being perfect so I don’t think it really matters.”
The group have just released their new LP, ‘Kaiser Chiefs’ Easy Eighth Album’, but Ricky admitted making new music wasn’t a priority following the birth of his and wife Grace’s twins nearly two years ago.
Discussing working with producer Amir Amor on the record, he said: “I’m confident but I can’t back it up. Amir is confident and he can back it up.
“Working with him was incredible because he was enthusiastic about our band and what we can achieve.
“It’s not that I wasn’t excited about making the album. It’s just that I’m not 20 years old any more and, it sounds bad, but it’s not my main priority because I’ve got kids.
“But then you think, ‘My kids are my number one priority, so I should probably provide for them’.
“And the only way I know how to provide for them is by making records.”

Listen to Dave Grohl play drums on St. Vincent’s new track Broken Man

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Grohl plays drums on St. Vincent’s new track, ‘Broken Man’, from her upcoming self-produced LP, ‘All Born Screaming’.
The 41-year-old musician – whose real name is Annie Clark – recruited her friends, including Foo Fighters’ Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Rachel Eckroth, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa, and David Ralicke, for her latest collection.
Clark told NME of the lead single and Grohl’s gnarly drums: “From the beginning of the song, it’s a slow-burn. The shape of the song is climbing the mountain, because it just grows and grows. There are essentially three drummers on the track: the first part is my programming, the second part Mark Guiliana comes in, and then at the very end of the track – just when you think it can’t get any higher – Grohl comes in with this absolute reckless spirit and just takes it to the edge.”
Fans can expect her “most unfiltered” work to date.
Clark said in a statement: “There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking the long walk into the woods alone—to find out what your heart is really saying.
“It sounds real because it is real.”
Her seventh studio album is the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Daddy’s Home’, which was written after her father was released from prison, following his arrest in 2010, and it was heavily inspired by the records her dad used to listen to when she was a child.
‘All Born Screaming’ is released on April 26. Stream ‘Broken Man’ now on all streaming platforms.

‘I felt like nobody was caring’: Rapper Saweetie has explained the long delay to her debut album

OHMYGOSSIP — Saweetie hasn’t released an album yet because she felt like “nobody” around her was “caring about my music”.
The 30-year-old rapper – whose real name is Diamonte Harper – announced her debut album, ‘Pretty B**** Music’, a while ago now and she has admitted the real reason it is taking so long.
She told Allure magazine: “I just feel like nobody was caring about my music.
“To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet.”
The record was originally intended to drop in 2021, however, she announced she was delaying it to “reconstruct” some songs.
The ‘Best Friend’ hitmaker went on to admit she felt like her every move was scrutinised, and that she had “given up” on herself and felt like quitting.
She shared: “I don’t mean to dampen the mood.
“But this is, realistically, how my career has been. We were constantly criticised for every drop. I was just very insecure. I’m a confident woman, but I was a very insecure artist.
“There’s been a lot of times these past couple of years where I’ve given up on myself.
“Whether people knew about that or not, I just felt myself giving up, and I don’t want to do that anymore.”
Saweetie says her music is continually evolving.
She explained: “As an artist, the frequency changes. The music I created up until now, in three months I could listen to it and I could be like, ‘I’m not that girl anymore.'”
As for what fans can expect from her, she said: “The theme is just Saweetie.”
So far this year, the ‘Tap In’ star has released the Willie Hutch-sampling single ‘Richtivities’.

Keith Richards celebrates Lou Reed on I’m Waiting for the Man

OHMYGOSSIP — Keith Richards features on a new album that celebrates Lou Reed’s enduring influence.
The iconic musician died from liver disease in October 2013, aged 71, and a number of his friends and fans – including Keith, Rosanne Cash, Lucinda Williams, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Afghan Whigs, Bobby Rush, Maxim Ludwig and Angel Olsen, Mary Gauthier, and Automatic – have come together to create ‘The Power Of The Heart: A Tribute To Lou Reed’.
Keith, 80 – who features on the track ‘I’m Waiting for the Man’, which is released on Saturday (02.03.24) – believes that the late musician was a hugely influential figure.
He said: “To me, Lou stood out. The real deal!
“[He was] important to American music and to all music! I miss him and his dog.”
Record producer Bill Bentley also has fond memories of the late musician.
Bill explained: “There are many moments when Lou Reed’s soul still rushes through me like a warm wind on a motionless day.
“It might be a certain chord I hear, a word spoken with his distinct New York accent, or even just a glancing memory of the way he smiled when he was happy followed by a restrained cackle which assured all was right in Reed’s world … His spirit is there, undiminished with a worldly peaceful wisdom he had never quit seeking.”
Meanwhile, Mary Gauthier – who features on the track ‘Coney Island Baby’ – has been heavily influenced and inspired by Lou’s music for many years.
The 61-year-old singer shared: “Lou Reed’s music was vital to young people like me who felt stranded in the middle of nowhere.
“A rough urban song poet of astounding vulnerability and brutal honesty, he saw – and described – the world as it was. Pure emotion. Pure reality, immense compassion.
“I love talk-singers. That was Lou – his words were raw and real. But there was always melody. And always a (heart) beat. It would be impossible to count the small town dreamers like me who followed his voice to find their own.”

“Hosting an awards show that celebrates the music that the fans love most has been an honour and I know this year will be another unforgettable night.”
The nominees are set to be unveiled shortly.
At last year’s bash, Shania Twain called for an “all-inclusive country music” as she took home the Equal Play Award.

She said: “I believe in an all-inclusive country music.
“This is a genre of music with a rich history that raised and nurtured my own songwriting and performance and recording career from childhood. Currently, the industry standard does a real disservice to this.”

Zayn Malik could be going country like Beyonce on his next album

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik is working with country music producer Dave Cobb on his upcoming album.
The former One Direction star could be set to jump on the country bandwagon like Beyonce after the studio wizard behind his follow-up to 2021’s ‘Nobody Is Listening’ spilled on working with the star.
The producer told Rolling Stone: “What got me about Zayn was his voice, you can hear love, loss, pain, triumph and humanity in it. I feel as if this record is removing the glass from his spirit directly to his fans.
“Zayn has really created his own universe on this record, he really has no fear and is speaking straight from his soul.”
Dave is based in Nashville, Tennessee, and is best known for producing the work of Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, John Prine, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, to name a few.
The 31-year-old singer previously insisted his new material will sound different to his previous releases.
Speaking on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, he explained: “I’ve got a few really sad ones [songs], yeah. “It’s a different sound for me, and it’s got like some more narrative going on like real-life experiences and stuff.”
Zayn released the lead single, ‘Love Like This’, last year.
He said of the uplifting tune: “It’s just a summer jam. It’s a good vibe. It just feels like summer.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ singer was the executive music producer for the recently released animated film, ’10 Lives’, in which he also voiced “tough-guy twins” Cameron and Kirk and duetted with ‘Bridgerton’ star Simone Ashley (Rose), 28.

‘London fills my heart with joy’: Stevie Nicks latest headliner confirmed for BST Hyde Park

OHMYGOSSIP — Stevie Nicks is set to headline American Express presents BST Hyde Park.
The Fleetwood Mac legend will bring her revered solo show to the London landmark on July 12.
She said: “Anything that draws me back to London – and therefore to England – fills my heart with joy.
“And to be able to visit and make music… is always a dream come true…”
Her full line-up of support acts will be confirmed in due course.
The 75-year-old singer – whose solo hits include ‘Edge of Seventeen’ and ‘Stand Back’ – is currently completing a US tour, which was extended due to phenomenal demand.
Kings Of Leon, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams, Shania Twain, Kylie Minogue and Stray Kids are also set to headline BST.
Tickets for Stevie’s date go on sale on Wednesday 6 March, 10am GMT available at www.bst-hydepark.com.
Meanwhile, Stevie recently insisted Fleetwood Mac is “done” without the late Christine McVie.
The frontwoman admitted there is “no reason” to continue the ‘Landslide’ band without their beloved keyboard player and vocalist, who died in November 2022, aged 79, after a stroke and cancer battle, because they “can’t go any further”.
Speaking to Vulture, she said: “When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t.
“Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.
“When I think about Taylor Swift’s song ‘You’re on Your Own, Kid’ and the line ‘you always have been,’ it was like, that was Christine and I. We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other. Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.”
Christine was also the band’s main songwriter and Stevie claims the rest of the band couldn’t pen a pop hit like her.
She added: “Christine was the pop star. She wrote all those really super pop hits.
“None of the rest of us could write those songs. What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.”

Girls Aloud’s festival slot will follow their headline tour this May and June.
Cheryl revealed the group had been discussing reunion plans for some time, but put the idea on ice when late band member Sarah Harding – who died in September 2021 – was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She said in a statement in November: “We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20-year anniversary a few years ago.
“The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate. But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed.
“She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right, it felt too soon.”
The group plan to use the tour to “celebrate” their late friend.
Cheryl added: “But now, I think there is an energy that does makes it feel right. It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the right time to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later. That’s a big honour in lots of ways.”

Kelly Jones unveils second solo album, Inevitable Incredible

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Jones has announced his first solo album in 17 years, ‘Inevitable Incredible’, and shared the title track.
The Stereophonics frontman – who launched the side band Far From Saints with US musicians Patty Lynn and Dwight Baker of The Wind and The Wave, who released their self-titled album last March – has announced his follow-up to 2007’s ‘Only the Names Have Been Changed’.
The 49-year-old musician spent six days recording the record in the “secluded expanses” of Ocean Sound studio in Norway, on a tiny remote island in the North Sea, which he found “truly cathartic”.
The eight songs were written at the piano and “perfectly captured the emotional depths and soul searching” from his late-night playing.
A press release states, ‘Inevitable Incredible’ takes the listener on an engrossing journey that gives an intimate insight into an artist who is not content to rest on his laurels.”
Kelly said: “The remote surroundings of the island studio allowed the songs to come to life and breathe, no distractions, it was such a new experience. There were no expectations for how the songs should sound. Just let the emotion and vulnerability I put into writing those songs come to life. The weather could change in a minute and there was little to no contact with the outside world. All this influenced how the songs came to be. It was a truly cathartic experience. I feel like I left it all out there on these songs.”

Justin Timberlake confirms NSYNC are on solo album track Paradise

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Timberlake has revealed NSYNC feature on a song on his upcoming solo LP ‘Everything I Thought It Was’.
The ‘Selfish’ singer took to TikTok to post a video of him blinking twice after a fan asked him to react with his eyes if his bandmates appear on the track ‘Paradise’.
They told him: “Blink twice if NSYNC is on a song called Paradise.”
And he did just that.
The ‘Bye Bye Bye’ group – completed by Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, and Lance Bass – reunited at the MTV Video Music Awards in September, swiftly followed by the release of ‘Better Place’ for the ‘Trolls Band Together’ movie.
Last month, Justin teased new music was on the horizon.
Appearing on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, he teased: “We’ve been in the studio, so there may be a little something in the future, too.”
Justin’s admission came as he discussed becoming a “studio rat” after “growing up in the industry and getting access to so much in the studio.”
He added: “I just loved being in there and I loved the creative process. And also as it pertains to harmonies, I spent some time with four other guys doing a lot of harmonies.”
While he hadn’t worked with NSYNC in over 20 years, the ‘SexyBack’ hitmaker admitted it felt like no time had passed when they got together again to record ‘Better Place’.
He said: “That was fun. It’s kind of crazy, like, there’s so much that just picks up right where it left off as far as the chemistry.”
Justin’s bandmate Lance recently admitted he had “no idea” there would be such a demand for the group to make a comeback.
