Jack White's pre-show frenzy

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White “breaks things with a baseball bat” before getting on stage.
The ‘Seven Nation Army’ hitmaker does his best to get into a “frenzy” in order to have the excess of energy he needs to give a good performance.
Discussing what he does pre-show, he said:”I’m drinking a Red Bull, a shot of whiskey,.
“I’m backstage with a baseball bat breaking things. You have to work yourself up into a frenzy.”
The 41-year-old musician sets himself rules when writing music because he doesn’t like to have too much “freedom” and is currently trying to compose in “silence”.
He told The New Yorker: “I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbour.
“And I want to write like Michael Jackson would write–instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.
“[I use] four tracks. With computers you can use three hundred and ten tracks if you want to, but it’s too much freedom.
“I always have my own rules, and I can bend them if I want. I can see the confines I’m working in, but nobody else knows I’m doing it.”
And Jack admitted he sometimes dreams of being confined to one place for a lengthy period of time with “nothing” to do.
He said: “If I could just break my leg and be in the hospital for six weeks, what would it be like?
“Something about a room and a cot and a little space. You have nothing to do.”

Sean Lennon drops song he wrote with Carrie Fisher

OHMYGOSSIP — Sean Lennon has released a song he wrote with Carrie Fisher “years ago.”
The 41-year-old singer-songwriter dropped a demo titled ‘Bird Song’ on SoundCloud over the weekend after he penned the lyrics with the legendary actress – who passed away in December at the age of 60 from a cardiac arrest – a while back.
Alongside the lyrics Sean said in a statement: “Carrie and I wrote this song years ago. When she died I just felt I had to record it.
“The ‘Bird Song’ release was only a demo unmixed, we only had a few hours to record it. But the lyrics she wrote with me I think are marvelous. Carrie and I used to stay up til dawn chatting and pontificating about life. They were my best moments. Anyway… we wrote a song about staying up too late and hearing the birds sing.”
Sean – who is the son of the late John Lennon – enlisted the help of Will Smith’s 14-year-old daughter Willow to record the vocals as she has a voice of an “angel.”
He explained his choice of vocalist: “Willow Smith is a prodigal angel and was generous enough to lend her golden voice to this little tune.”
This isn’t the first time Willow has tried her hand at music, as the talented teenager managed to worm her way into the charts in 2010 when she released ‘Whip My Hair’.
Carrie passed away on December 27 following four days on a ventilator in intensive care after she stopped breathing while on board a flight from London to Los Angeles.
The following day while she was planning her daughter’s funeral with her son Todd, Carrie’s mother Debbie Reynolds suffered a stroke and subsequently died in hospital.
The pair were later laid to rest together in a joint private ceremony in Los Angeles.

Katherine Jenkins 'plans to attract a whole new fanbase'

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Jenkins has joined a new management company in a bid to win over a whole new fanbase.
The 36-year-old singer is already a big star in the UK and has now signed with management company Modest, who guided the careers of One Direction and Little Mix, in an effort to broaden her global appeal.
A source said: “Katherine really wants to make big strides in music globally.”
The blonde beauty has cut her ties with industry giant Jonathan Shalit after two years of working with him, and Katherine feels she is now ready for the next stage in her music career.
The insider explained to The Sun newspaper: “She’s had a great time with Jonathan and appreciates all he’s done for her.
“But she now feels it’s time to give Modest the chance to see if they can help her achieve her ambitions.”
Meanwhile, Katherine revealed last year she “has a word” with her late father Selwyn John before every performance.
The singer’s beloved dad passed away when she was just 17 years old, but Katherine hopes he is still watching over her and she still asks him to “bless” her voice when she is ready to go on stage.
She said: “The last thing I do when I’m getting ready and standing in the wings is say a prayer.
“Then I’ll have a little word with my father. My dad passed away when I was 17, so I’ll often say, ‘Dad, bless my voice, bless my performance’.
“I’ve always felt he’s been with me, guiding me in my career. He was my biggest supporter. He’s the last thing I think of when I go out and sing.”

The Backstreet Boys believe boybands are not 'entertaining'

OHMYGOSSIP — The Backstreet Boys believe boybands are not as “entertaining” as they were.
The popular American group, which is comprised of AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell, are not impressed by their contemporaries and believe the “new wave” of bands try too hard to be different from their predecessors they become less interesting.
Speaking about their peers to Elle Online, Howie, 43, said: “The new wave of boy band says, ‘Oh, we don’t do what they do.’ But to be honest, to me, it’s not as entertaining. What we do is we truly entertain people. Music, staging, dancing, everything.”
And Nick believes the ‘Everybody’ hitmakers have “always” been able to make “great music” and hit records, although their priority has always been about putting on an unforgettable performance.
The 37-year-old hunk – who is currently taking part in the residency show in Las Vegas titled ‘Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life’ with his fellow band members – added: “I think that’s why we’re still here in a lot of ways. Because it was always about a show. Regardless, we could always make great music and we could have hits. But whenever we hit the stage, we had to give a show that people would remember and that stood on its own.”
And the group, who formed in Orlando in 1993, are glad they didn’t have social media around when they were younger because they think their antics would have caused a huge stir on the internet.
The golden-haired heartthrob said: “I’ll tell you this. There is some s**t that AJ and I both did that I’m really glad that social media wasn’t around for. Because Justin Bieber couldn’t hold a candle to what we did.”
AJ, 39, added: “We would have been like TMZ’s saving grace, bro. Just anything from me being drunk or irate at a club. Or me walking naked down the hallway in a hotel for no apparent reason. Just random stuff that never really got out.”

Zayn Malik teases new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik has teased new music on Twitter.
The 24-year-old singer took to the social media site on Tuesday (07.03.17) to share a short 28-second audio clip which featured the same piece of music looped multiple times, accompanied by a video of an animated dog dancing below a bone with the word “exited” written on it.
Whilst the ‘Pillowtalk’ hitmaker posted the clip without any caption, he later tweeted: “Lil taster … More to come (sic)”
And the former One Direction star also took a moment to tell off one fan for using “derogatory terminology” when expressing their excitement about his teaser, but said he too was “excited”.
The fan quoted his tweet and said: “Taster ? B***H NEW MUSIC ??? (sic)”
To which Zayn replied: “Really no need for derogatory terminology like that …I’m excited too though (sic)”
The tease comes after the ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ singer took to Twitter last month to blast the critics who said he should stop making music, as he has no plans to quit any time soon.
He wrote at the time: “I recall someone saying to me a while back music wasn’t my thing and maybe I should try something else..
“I guess we’re all good at doing things we shouldn’t (sic)”
Zayn has enjoyed considerable success as a solo artist since he quit One Direction in 2015, becoming the first British male artist to debut at number one in the UK and the US with his first album ‘Mind of Mine’.
However, he has also been forced to cancel a number of planned appearances owing to his struggles with anxiety, including a much-anticipated performance at Capital Summertime Ball in June 2016.
In a statement, he explained at the time: “Unfortunately, anxiety, which has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has got the better of me… with the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.
“I cannot apologize enough, but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me. I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today.
“I know those who suffer from anxiety will understand, and I hope those who don’t can empathize with my situation. (sic)”

IM SO F***ING HAPPY THIS MIXTAPE IS NEARLY OUT. I’M SO PROUD OF THIS COLLECTION OF SONGS. ANGELS, THIS IS FOR YOU. I LOVE YOU ALL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ETERNAL SUPPORT. ANGEL POWER (sic)”
The news comes after Charli recently revealed she has managed to secure the talent of Paris Hilton – who has become known for her DJ work – for the mixtape, after she said she had been inspired by ‘The Simple Life’ star.
She revealed: “I’ve been really inspired by Paris Hilton, small dogs and a glitter, luxe lifestyle. I’ve never met Paris before, but we were both at the amFAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival this year. I was performing and I saw her singing along to my song and I freaked out. I’m such a fan and one of my favourite songs ever is ‘Stars Are Blind’ – it’s pop genius.”
Charli’s mixtape is intended to be a treat for fans before her third studio LP is released in May.

Dua Lipa: I never had a plan B

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa “never had a plan B”.
The ‘Scared To Be Lonely’ hitmaker has always been solely focused on making it in the music industry as she feels she would “lose sight of what she really wanted” if she hadn’t had just the one goal.
She said: “I never had a plan B. Always set your intentions on your goal and just go for it. The second you feel like you have something to fall back on, you’ll kind of lose sight of what you really want.
“That was something that was always really important to me, to never lose sight of my goal. And to never stop working. Just when you think that you’ve made it, there’s always something else and you’ve got to keep going. If you want to be great at what you do, there’s a lot more to be done.”
And the 21-year-old singer feels her new album will help her make room for more “memories”.
She added: “I feel [with] this album, I’ve been holding onto so many memories and so many things that I’ve been singing about over and over.
“Stuff like ‘Hotter Than Hell’ or ‘New Love,’ – these are songs that just really take me so far back, and I’m ready to put them out in the world and let go of them. Now, once this album is out, there’s room for new memories, new things to happen.”
And the ‘Be the One’ hitmaker also revealed how she prepares for a live show.
She told Teen Vogue magazine: “I have a cup of tea with Manuka honey and lemon, and I just like to hang out with my band in the ten, fifteen minutes before we go on stage.
“The audience here are really in your face, and I love it. They just scream all the words with you.”

Martin Garrix looks to Justin Bieber

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Garrix and Justin Bieber look to each other for advice.
The ‘In the Name of Love’ hitmaker – who is currently supporting Justin on the Australian leg of his tour – says the pair have a unique friendship because they are going through similar things.
He said: “We’re both young, both touring on the road a lot and both love music. We can really talk about that.
“He said, ‘You should come with me to Australia, it’s going to be crazy’, and I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it’. Besides this tour we are also very good friends, we Facetime every now and then. Good times.”
However, Martin insists the pair aren’t out partying all the time.
He quipped: “But that’s what I always say and then I end up partying. I really hope to see some more of Australia, do some tourist sights in-between and be able to relax. After this tour I go straight into my own tour and that ends in October.
“I don’t want to exhaust myself in the first two weeks. I want to work on some new music here, be inspired. I’m excited for the shows and to see and meet all these new people.”
And the 20-year-old DJ loves the feeling of making others happy with his music.
He shared: “[I love to] make people happy doing what makes me happy. If I see someone smile, it makes me smile.
“So if I see a thousand people in a crowd smile it makes me so happy. It gives me so much adrenaline. After every show I can’t sleep. It’s such an insane feeling.”
And the ‘Animals’ hitmaker never “dreamt” of being so successful.
He told The West Australian newspaper: “The crazy thing was … I didn’t even dream of this. Four years ago I was at a festival as a fan and Fatboy Slim was on the main stage and he played one of my songs.
“I was in the crowd and couldn’t move. It was the weirdest thing. I was just standing there [in shock]. I thought my life was made and nothing would ever beat that feeling. Then the next year we got booked on that main stage.”

Laura Marling turned to yoga

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Marling ditched music to become a yoga instructor.
The ‘Master Hunter’ hitmaker has revealed she took some time away from the music industry as she felt she “had no identity” and was “socially bankrupt”.
She said: “I had no identity. It was really, really, really difficult. I was socially bankrupt. [It was a] very null time. I didn’t feel like I had a gender in a weird way – I’d lost a lot of weight so I didn’t really have any feminine features. I looked like a young boy. It was quite a good experience of being a non-sexual presence in the world, like a eunuch.”
However, it didn’t quite work out how she had planned as Laura admits she wasn’t a very good yoga instructor.
She added: “You need to know a lot more than I know to do it well.”
Now Laura is back with a new album, ‘Semper Femina’, her first in nearly two years, which she says was her “needing to love herself”.
She told The Guardian newspaper: “I think probably a big part of this album was me needing to love myself, which is a bit cringe to say.”
Meanwhile, Laura previously admitted she felt her time away from the music industry was “undignified”.
She said: “I had little choice in the matter. It didn’t seem to want to happen. It was undignified – that’s exactly what it felt like.
“My music and my ability and my confidence in my ability were a huge part of my persona. Because that’s such a grounding thing to be confidently doing what you are lucky enough to be good at. And I didn’t have that – for the first time ever. It was horrible.”

Meanwhile, will.i.am previously teased that he is working on an “exciting” new Black Eyed Peas project.
He shared: “I don’t want to say the word album because that just dates you, but we’re doing a new project. It’s really exciting. It’s the best time to be creative right now with all the tools and folks doing what’s best for themselves and creating in different mediums.
“I’m staying very vague but I’m so excited about the stuff we’re going to do this year. And I love tech, so it’s going to be jam-packed with some awesome f***ing tech.”
Meanwhile, Charli XCX – who has collaborated with will.i.am in the past – previously revealed the rapper throws “random words” into his songs.
Asked what it was like to work with the 41-year-old star, Charli said: “Amazing! I love him. We were writing and he was like ‘the verse – just say random words. Nobody listens to the verse’.
“I thought, ‘Hm, interesting strategy.’ Then I listened again to his songs and I was like, ‘Fuck, he actually does this! He really believes in this strategy! But it’s a really fun way to write songs.”

Taylor Swift emailed Better Man to Big Little Town

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift sent ‘Better Man’ to Big Little Town by email.
The country music group – which includes Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Philip Sweet – has revealed Taylor sent over the track, which hit number one in the charts, as she could only “hear their voices on it”.
Revealing what the email said, they shared: “I wrote this song and I keep hearing your voices on it. I know you’re making a record – if you want to cut it, great. If not, no big deal.”
Whilst Kimberly added: “We thanked the good Lord it didn’t go in his spam folder.”
And after receiving the email, Philip immediately sent it over to his bandmates, who gave it their seal of approval.
Kimberly added to People magazine: “We all listened to it individually and then we were on the road with Luke Bryan all year.
“So every evening in the dressing room when we were getting ready, we would play the song over and over and over. Instantly that chorus had us hooked. The lush harmony felt so much like us!”
Meanwhile, fans eager to hear more material from Taylor might not have too long to wait after her close friend Ed Sheeran previously teased he thinks Taylor could release new music before the end of 2017.
He said previously: “Taylor [Swift] isn’t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year. Christmas is the smartest time to release because that’s when everyone buys records.”
And Ed hasn’t ruled out hitting the studio with Taylor once again, following their impressive effort on 2013 hit ‘Everything Has Changed’.
Ed said a collaboration would “definitely happen” but wouldn’t be drawn on an exact date, telling fans it would happen “certainly in our lifetime”.

Ed Sheeran watches fans' reactions to Divide on YouTube

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran spent “six hours” watching YouTube videos of fans’ reactions to his new LP ‘Divide’.
The 26-year-old singer/songwriter dropped the record on Friday (03.03.17) and has been keen to find out what people think of his latest outing, and the video sharing site has proved useful in garnering the opinions of his following.
He revealed: “I spent six hours last night (05.03.17) watching YouTube reaction videos.
“It just makes me smile the whole time.”
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker also opened up about some of the darker songs on the record and how they were written on the road at times when he was feeling sad when he was away from his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.
Speaking on ‘Entertainment Tonight’, he said: “I’ve always made my albums on the road. The road isn’t always happy. It’s not the most stable place for a relationship or a life.
“There are some dark, dark moments on the album. My life isn’t like that now. Those songs were basically written a while back and I felt they should be on the album, because you can’t just have an album that’s all positive. It has to have light and shade.”
Despite missing the 24-year-old hockey player when he is on tour, Ed would love to still be touring and making music for as long as possible.
He said: “I’d love to still be touring. I want to be doing this for the rest of my life.”

Jack White owns a special bowling ball for Bob Dylan

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White owns a bowling ball dedicated to Bob Dylan.
The 41-year-old musician – who is best known as the lead singer of the White Stripes – has a private bowling alley in his house in Nashville, Tennessee, which boasts a rack of balls for his friends, including one that features an image of John Wayne and is only used by Dylan.
In fact, Jack’s property is home to a number of rare items, including James Brown’s driving license from the 80s and a copy of Action Comics No. 1 from 1938, which features Superman’s first appearance.
Another of the eye-catching items found in Jack’s home is the first demo recording of Elvis Presley, which dates back to 1953 and is rumoured to have cost the musician as much as $300,000 to buy at an auction.
But Jack has defended his unusual spending habits, revealing he’d rather use his wealth to acquire rare, culturally significant items than splash out on an expensive car or invest in a business.
He told The New Yorker magazine: “If I’m going to invest in something, it has to have meaning to me, something that has historical value and can be passed on.
“If I buy Elvis’ first record, and we are able to digitise it and release it, and people can own it, or I can preserve this comic book, it is cooler than buying some Ferrari or investing in British Petroleum.”
Jack admitted to being disinterested in following convention, regardless of whether he’s making music or going about his day-to-day life.
He shared: “I always have my own rules, and I can bend them if I want. I can see the confines I’m working in, but nobody else knows I’m doing it.”

Gorillaz announce comeback show with new festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorillaz have announced their UK live comeback with their own festival in Margate, Kent.
The virtual band – created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett – will take to the stage to headline their very own festival at Margate’s amusement park Dreamland on June 10, marking the group’s first live performance since 2011.
The festival – entitled Demon Dayz in a nod to their second album ‘Demon Days’ which was released in 2005 – so far only lists the ‘Clint Eastwood’ hitmakers on the bill, but a full line-up is yet to be released.
News of the festival was first revealed in UK newspaper the Metro, when an advertisement for the musical bash appeared in the Monday (06.03.17) edition of the paper.
The band later shared the poster on their Instagram and Twitter, simply tagging the username “@demondayzfest” in each post.
It is unknown as of yet whether or not the comeback show will feature any new music from the ‘Feel Good Inc’ musicians, but Damon, 48, has been working on the follow-up to 2011’s ‘The Fall’ since September 2015, and recently revealed that the album should be ready later in the year.
He previously said: “Later in the year we’ll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together. I’m loving it and it’s getting there. It should be ready fairly soon.”
The virtual band was conceived by Damon and visual artist Jamie in 1998 and is comprised of animated characters 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russell Hobbs – none of the personas are reflective of the real life musicians involved in the project.
Tickets for Demon Dayz festival go on sale at 9am on Friday (10.03.17), and according to the festival’s website, the starting price of £60 will include access to the rides at the amusement park.

OHMYGOSSIP — Fifth Harmony have promised their fans their new music as a four-piece will make them “so proud” of the group.
The girl band – who starred on the second series of ‘The X Factor US’ in July 2012 – recently lost member Camila Cabello, who quit the group last December to launch a solo pop career.
But the remaining members – Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei – were on hand at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards at The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday (05.03.17) to collect the Best Fan Army prize and made a vow to ‘The Harmonizers’ that their new songs as a four-piece will be great.
Dinah said: “You all have been working so hard and we have been working just as hard. We are sure to make you all so proud. You all stay tuned for new music.”
Thanking the loyal Harmonizers, Ally added: “Thank you so much. Wow. This is truly amazing. Fans, you guys are truly a force to be reckoned with. We love you too. Thank you for bringing so much joy and kindness and love to our world. We wouldn’t be the same without you. We thank God for you. This is for you, so thank you so much.”

Ed Sheeran teases Taylor Swift collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran says another collaboration with Taylor Swift will “definitely” happen.
The ‘Galway Girl’ hitmaker promised fans he will be hitting the studio with the ‘Shake It Off’ singer again, following their impressive 2013 hit ‘Everything Has Changed’.
However, Ed wouldn’t be drawn on an exact date, and when asked by E! News when fans could expect the song, he simply said: “Certainly in our lifetime.”
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old singer – who unveiled his latest LP ‘Divide’ last week – thinks Taylor could be releasing new music before the year is out.
He shared previously: “Taylor [Swift] isn’t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year. Christmas is the smartest time to release because that’s when everyone buys records.”
Ed and Taylor have been great friends for a long time now and the flame-haired singer believes that is the case because they both know what it was like to be the “underdog” at school but admits they can sometimes take their competitiveness too far.
He explained: “There’s an underdog element to it. Taylor was never the popular kid in school. I was never the popular kid in school.
“Then you get to the point when you become the most popular kid in school – and we both take it a bit too far.
“She wants to be the biggest female artist in the world and I want to be the biggest male artist in the world. It also comes from always being told that you can’t do something and being like, ‘F you. I can.'”
And Ed is so close to Taylor that he makes an exception by attending her Fourth of July party each year whilst politely declining all other celebrity parties.
He said: “That was at Taylor Swift’s 4th July party. That’s the only [celebrity party] I do.”
