Sister Sledge to continue performing

OHMYGOSSIP — Sister Sledge will carry on performing without their late sister Joni Sledge.
The ‘We Are Family’ hitmakers have vowed to continue on the road despite the tragic death of the 60-year-old singer, who died on Friday (10.03.17).
They said in a statement: “Sister Sledge will continue with their 2017 concert schedule. Sister Sledge – Debbie, Kim and the Sledge family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who have extended their love and support during this difficult and challenging time of mourning, in the wake of the passing of our beloved sister Joni Sledge.
“Joni was a beautiful person, phenomenal artist and producer, a brilliant business woman and a powerhouse! One of her greatest loves and joys was performing live with her family. In the spirit of Joni’s powerful strength of character, zest for life and spreading joy through music, we are committed to continuing her legacy.
“Therefore, in this new 2017 concert season, and in the true Sister Sledge family tradition, we will embrace and celebrate Joni, dedicating every concert in honor of her remarkable and beautiful life. WE ARE SISTERS. We are one… We are Flo’s daughters. We are Family! WE ARE WAMOWS! (sic)”
Joni’s tragic passing brings the group down to a duo after sister Kathy left the group in 1989.
Amongst other shows, Sister Sledge will take to the stage at SpringFest Official at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange on May 27 and 28, dedicating their main stage performance to their late sibling.
Meanwhile, the band’s publicist Biff Warren previously issued a statement on behalf of the family, announcing Joni’s passing.
The statement read: “Yesterday, numbness fell upon our family. Pray for us as we weep for the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin Joni Sledge. We thank you for privacy as we hurt for her presence, but also for embracing her radiance and the sincerity with which she loved life.”

Ed Sheeran adds new London show

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has announced a new date at London’s The O2 to mark the venue’s 10th birthday.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker will play at the legendary arena on June 22 and joins previously announced performers alt-J, Celine Dion and Jamiroquai, who have already been announced as part of a series of gigs.
The 26-year-old flame-haired hunk said: “I am really excited to be joining the celebrations for The O2’s 10th Birthday. The O2 is such an iconic venue and has played host to some of my biggest inspirations. It’s always a privilege to play there and taking part in the 10th Birthday celebrations makes it even more special.”
It follows the ‘Shape of You’ singer’s recent record-breaking chart success, which saw him set a new record after obtaining nine of the top 10 singles in the UK chart.
Ed was convinced something had “gone wrong” when he learned he was the first artist to ever hold all top five positions in the chart, with all 16 of the tracks from his new album ‘Divide’ making it into the top 20.
At the time, he said “I never expected to have nine songs in the top 10 ever in my life.
“I don’t know if something has gone wrong, but I’m definitely very happy about it.”
Only ‘Something Like This’, by Chainsmokers and Coldplay, managed to break Ed’s top 10 domination and was placed 7th, with Rag’n’Bone Man, Katy Perry and Stormzy also retaining places in the top 20.
Ed’s triumph beat a record previously set by Calvin Harris, who sent a message of congratulations to the flame-haired star.
He tweeted: “Ed Sheeran just beat my UK record top 10s from 1 album in ONE WEEK congrats Ed but also f**k you I love you but also f**k you (sic)”
And Ed set another record after ‘Divide’ become the fastest-selling album by a male artist ever, after shifting 672,000 copies.
Only Adele’s ’25’ and ‘Be Here Now’ by Oasis – with 800,000 and 696,000 respectively – have sold more during their first week of release.
Of the feat, he added: “Wow! What a phenomenal week. To every person who’s bought the album – thank you. I’m buzzing!”
Ed’s first two albums were also in fourth and fifth place on the album chart, with Rag’n’Bone Man second with ‘Human’ and Stormzy’s ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ in third.
And Spotify confirmed Ed had broken a string of streaming records, including the biggest first week streams of an album worldwide, after ‘Divide’ was streamed a staggering
374,721,898 times globally and 73,906,189 times in the UK.
Tickets for Ed’s O2 arena show go on sale from 5pm on Monday (13.03.17).

Anne-Marie best friends with Jessie J

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne-Marie has been best friends with Jessie J since they were youngsters.
The ‘Alarm’ hitmaker starred alongside the brunette beauty in the West End play ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ when she was 12 years old and, although they lost contact for a while, they’ve now grown close to one another again over the past few years.
Speaking on The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre Editor Dan Wootton’s Facebook Page on Monday (13.03.17), she explained: “We were really close friends when we were kids. And then, obviously, she was doing her singing thing and I was just do karate so we kind of just went our own ways. And then when I started getting back into it, then we got back in contact so now we’re like good friends again. She’s just told me to be selfish sometimes. There was one time she told me to get the window seat on the plane. She said: ‘Don’t care, you just got to get the window seat so you can sleep.’ So yeah, she’s taught me stuff.”
The 25-year-old singer is also close friends with Ed Sheeran and will be joining him on his tour later this year, which she is convinced will be full of “wild parties.”
Asked what the most wild night out they had together was, she said: “The first night I spent with him, we literally spent watching ‘Game of Thrones’ and eating fajitas so that’s wild. I think every night we spend are just wild. One EMAs night we all just spent in his hotel room and that got pretty wild. I got pretty drunk and I was knocking.”
The blonde beauty is known for pouring her heart out in her songs and has admitted ‘Alarm’, ‘Ciao Adios’ and yet-to-be released ‘Then’ are about the same ex-boyfriend.
She explained: “Luckily in the songwriting sense and unlucky in the love life sense, I’ve had bad boyfriend. ‘Alarm’ and ‘Ciao Adios’ are about the same person, yeah. But the other ones are about other horrible ones.
“No [she doesn’t have a boyfriend]! I’m too busy to be honest. Who needs a man? I don’t. I don’t think I’ll even attract anyone with songs like that, I’ll be single for a while.”

Lorde is 'proud' of new single

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorde is “really proud” of the lyrics she created for her new single ‘Liability’.
The 20-year-old singer has just dropped her latest track on her adoring fans around the world and has admitted she’s really impressed with the work she produced because the story she’s telling through her music will resonate with every listener.
She explained: “I’m really proud of this bit of songwriting. I feel like I got somewhere they hadn’t been before, which is always a nice feeling as a songwriter. It’s interesting because I had this realisation that because of my lifestyle and what I do for work there’s going to be a point with every single person around me where I’m gonna be attacks on them in some way. If it is having to give up a little portion of their privacy or their life becoming more difficult or whatever.
“It was just this moment of sadness and I remember it so vividly. I was in this cab alone listening to ‘Higher’ by Rihanna because ‘ANTI’ had just come out. And I had a little cry and I was just like ‘it’s always going to be this way, at some point with everyone it’s going to be this way’.
“But the song kind of ended up turning into a bit of a protective talismans for me. I was like, you know what, I’m always gonna have myself so I have to really nurture this relationship and feel good about hanging out with myself and loving myself.
“And the tone of the melody, the way it kind of falls around, it’s almost like it’s kind of drunk or it sort of leans around, it’s got this hip hop cadence to it.”
The brunette beauty is set to release her new album ‘Melodrama’ in June and, although she’s keeping the details under wraps for now, she’s teased that the songs are “tight.”
Speaking on Apple Beats 1 Radio, she told Zane Lowe: “The record is called ‘Melodrama’. [On number of songs on the album] It’s tight like my last one, I like to keep them small.”
Lorde is also preparing for her upcoming performances and is certain they will be “sick.”
She said: “It’s gonna be a big one. It’s gonna be so sick. We’re working with the sickest people on the show and doing all these festivals and awesome bits of TV. And it’s gonna be… oh my God I can’t wait for you to see it. I’m so excited!”

Circa Waves' Kieran Shudall isn't a fan of Ed Sheeran

OHMYGOSSIP — Circa Waves frontman Kieran Shudall isn’t a fan of “commercial” Ed Sheeran and James Arthur.
The 29-year-old rocker has no interest in any artists in the charts, including the ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker and the ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ singer, and has called on fellow rock lovers to support bands who make “honest music” as those topping the charts don’t need any help in that department.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “Bands survive now by people buying gig tickets, the charts.
“I don’t like any of the music in the charts, I don’t like Ed Sheeran and I don’t like James Arthur and the people who see my band don’t care about them.
“Rock bands will stay strong as long as record labels don’t care too much about the charts because otherwise we will have too many singers that are purely commercial.
“We need people to still invest in bands and good honest music.”
While he doesn’t pay too much attention to pop stars, the ‘T-Shirt Weather’ hitmaker is interested in popular television show ‘Game of Thrones’, and has asked Isaac Hempstead Wright – who plays Bran Stark in the HBO series – to be in the band’s new music video for ‘Fire That Burns’.
And he is hoping the 17-year-old actor will take his “hints” that himself and his band mates, Sam Rourke, Colin Jones and Joe Falconer, want to appear on the show.
He revealed: “We found out Isaac was a huge fan so we messaged him on Twitter and asked if he would star in the video for ‘Fire That Burns’.
“He messaged back straight away saying he’d love to, I never thought he’d ever even reply.
“I absolutely love ‘GoT’ and we want to be in it more than anything, I keep dropping hints to Isaac but he ain’t picked up on them yet. They’ve had that guy from Snow Patrol in one so I don’t see why we can’t.”

Serge Pizzorno: Tom Meighan wears his heart on his sleeve

OHMYGOSSIP — Serge Pizzorno says people connect with Kasabian because frontman Tom Meighan opens his “heart” on stage.
The 36-year-old guitarist has opened up about his band mate’s meltdown and split from his long-term girlfriend last year, and has admitted that the ‘Club Foot’ singer’s ability to share his feelings during their shows makes for a great connection with the crowd as they can relate to his “pain and euphoria”.
Serge told the latest issue of Q magazine: “Tom’s heart is on his sleeve and he can get hurt, because he’s so open. That’s why people relate to him. He can stand in front of a hundred thousand people and they come away feeling not so alone, they’ve connected with this man who can show them their pain and their euphoria. It’s powerful do you know what I mean? We’re real. Especially Tom. He’s the realist f***ing man there is. You can slag that off if you want but he’s more real than I’ll ever be.”
Tom, also 36, admits that he had to learn to “grow up” over the last 12 months to dig himself out of a hole.
He added: “Life’s about learning. I have to take care of myself now and stop f**king around and get my head out of the clouds and f**king grow up. And that’s what I did. It’s about not being out of control.”
Serge said that Tom needed to sort himself out to be able to cope with the “mad job” that is fronting a rock band.
He said: “Tom had to grow up. You can go one of two ways. You either go insane, or you sort yourself out. The thing is, with this mad … job, you can do whatever you want. Because people let you. As long as the machine keeps going.”
Tom admitted 2016 was a year he’d rather forget – unlike Serge, whose favourite soccer side Leicester City won the English Premier League.
He said: “In every way, 2016 was great for Serge, great for Leicester City, s**t for me.
“I had to sort my head out. My attitude. Stuff I was doing. People I was associating with. Not bad people.
“I was the one that was bad, I was in the haze. I was very unhappy, just down. You block it out by just carrying on.”
Kasabian’s world exclusive interview appears in this month’s Q magazine, on sale on Tuesday, 14 March.
Kasabian’s new album is released on later this year.

The Eagles are set to reunite

OHMYGOSSIP — The Eagles are reportedly set to reform for a two-date festival in New York and Los Angeles.
The rock band previously said they would never perform together again following the shock death of Glenn Frey in January 2016 – but they have since performed a U-turn and are now preparing to reunite for the Classic West and Classic East bash later this year.
A source explained: “The Eagles are getting back together on stage.”
However, the insider has rubbished the suggestion that the band are merely reuniting for money.
The source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s not a decision they have taken lightly but their feelings have changed and they know there’s huge demand from fans who want to see them.
“None of them need the money – they want to make sure the shows are respectful and fitting tribute.”
The Eagles are also still to decide whether they will hire a new singer to replace Glenn.
The insider added: “The band are still dealing with the issue of replacing Glenn and have secretly held talks with some performers, but they are also discussing the possibility of sharing his duties between them.”
The Eagles – whose best-selling hits included ‘Hotel California’ and ‘Take It Easy’ – are expected to earn more than £4 million for the shows.
But band member Don Henley previously insisted they would not reunite after they performed ‘Take It Easy’ at the Grammys in February 2016.
He said: “It was very difficult and very emotional. We actually almost didn’t do it.
“That was the final farewell. I don’t think you’ll see us performing again. I think that was probably it. I think it was an appropriate farewell.”

Salt-N-Pepa: We're 'here to stay'

OHMYGOSSIP — Salt-N-Pepa say their songs are “here to stay”.
The hip hop trio – consisting of Cheryl ‘Salt’ James, Sandra ‘Pepa’ Denton, and Deidra ‘Spinderella’ Roper – were one of the first all female rap groups when they formed in 1985, and despite a brief split between 2002 and 2007, the group insist they’re not quitting the music business any time soon.
Pepa, 50, said: “A lot of our fans, they always say Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella was the soundtrack to their lives … We’re just not going anywhere. Our songs are here to stay.”
The ‘Push It’ hitmakers are currently embarking on the ‘I Love The 90s’ festival tour which sees them play shows with the likes of Vanilla Ice, Sugar Ray, and Coolio, and Pepa admits she loves to watch the other acts and revel in the nostalgia of the decade that catapulted them into fame.
When asked if they watch the other acts on tour, Pepa said: “Yeah, I always watch the show. I do love watching the show. It’s fun! And I watch the audience, and I see the joy and the happiness — they’re really into it. A lot of times they’ll even come dressed as the ’90s.”
DJ Spinderella, 45, agrees with her band mate, saying the 90s was an “incredible era” for music.
She told Billboard magazine: “When you say ‘the ’90s,’ it’s just nostalgia. The ’90s was an incredible era for music, hip-hop, pop culture – just everything. People want to go back. And Salt-N-Pepa – we were literally in our prime.”
The artists playing at each date of the tour changes frequently, and so the line-up is constantly evolving. It is unknown how many shows the ‘Shoop’ rappers are set to perform, but Pepa says the festival as a whole is set to continue into 2018, after having already racked up 100 gigs in 2016. This year will see the festival travel through the US, as well as Canada, Australia, and England.

Drake's More Life gets release date

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake’s ‘More Life’ project will be released March 18.
The 30-year-old rapper took to Instagram on Saturday (11.03.17) to share a first teaser trailer for the project – which he has previously described as a “playlist” – which featured a number of short clips of the star before announcing the expected release date.
Drake chose not to caption the video with any words, posting the video accompanied by nothing but a simple flower emoji.
The announcement comes after the ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker previously claimed the project would be released in December, after he debuted the tracks ‘Two Birds One Stone’, ‘Fake Love’, and ‘Sneakin’ on his Apple Music OVO Sound radio show in October.
He said at the time: “I’m off mixtapes, you know? I wanna do a playlist, I wanna give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life. So this is more like the playlist. Like I said, dropping in December, all original music from me, but you may hear some tunes from the family on there.”
Meanwhile, the ‘One Dance’ musician said he hates taking nights off for his “personal life” because he always worries someone else will “stumble upon something” that he’s missed.
He said: “At the end of the day, it’s all about the time you’re willing to put in. And, my biggest fear is always when I’m not [in the studio], there’s someone else that’s doing it.
“That’s my biggest fear in life. When I’m not doing it. When I take a night off for my personal life. When I choose to decompress or relax … not in the back of my mind, in the front of my mind, my biggest fear is if somebody’s not relaxing right now and they’re going to stumble upon something.”
And Drake admits he would like to be remembered as an “emotion-evoking artist”.
He added: “[I want] to keep people excited, give them new music, let them know I’m still hungry.
“I’m doing it to be remembered as a forward thinker. I want to be remembered… as an emotion-evoking artist”.

Ed Sheeran gives wealth away

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran gives most of his fortune away.
The 26-year-old singer – who has an estimated wealth of £68 million – isn’t interested in saving his cash and as long as he is comfortable, he would rather use his money to support his loved ones and good causes he believes in.
He said: “It’s like, earn a penny, spend a penny with me. As soon as it comes in, it goes out. I don’t have that much value on it.
“I have more value on my friends and family being OK. A lot of my money goes to charity or to children’s hospitals near where I live.
“I have enough to be comfortable and the rest goes to help people.”
However, the ‘Castle on the Hill’ singer admits his wealth has caused him to lose friends.
He said: “I do think money is the root of all evil.
“I’ve never lost more friends in my life than I have done after finding money coming to my life.”
And Ed admitted fame has made him “paranoid” because of the way people treat him.
He told Britain’s OK! magazine: “It changed the people around me more than it changed me. And that in turn changes you because when the people around you change towards you, you can get very paranoid.
“Fame is a weird thing. I can’t walk outside my house without putting on a baseball cap, sunglasses and a hood.
“And even then you can’t really go anywhere. That’s why I moved back to my hometown where everyone treats me normally, where I can walk around normally.”

Martin Garrix and Ed Sheeran collaboration won't be released

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Garrix’s collaboration with Ed Sheeran is unlikely to be released.
The 20-year-old DJ teamed up with the ‘Shape of You’ singer to record ‘Rewind Repeat It’ and has performed two versions of the track at Miami festival Ultra in 2015 and 2016 but has revealed it is unlikely to ever get an official release because their record labels couldn’t agree on a date to bring out the song.
Speaking on Dutch Radio show with Coen & Sander, he said: “It’s all label issues and a lot of headaches.
“It was going to be an official track, so we postponed all my other singles, but the label delayed the track because they wanted to release other tracks from Ed first.
“At one point, it was two years ago, I didn’t release a radio single for five, six months. So, then you get annoyed. So, I don’t think we’re ever going to release the track.”
Martin recently admitted he loves the feeling of making others happy with his music.
He shared: “[I love to] make people happy doing what makes me happy. If I see someone smile, it makes me smile.
“So if I see a thousand people in a crowd smile it makes me so happy. It gives me so much adrenaline. After every show I can’t sleep. It’s such an insane feeling.”
And the ‘Animals’ hitmaker never “dreamt” of being so successful.
He said: “The crazy thing was … I didn’t even dream of this. Four years ago I was at a festival as a fan and Fatboy Slim was on the main stage and he played one of my songs.
“I was in the crowd and couldn’t move. It was the weirdest thing. I was just standing there [in shock]. I thought my life was made and nothing would ever beat that feeling. Then the next year we got booked on that main stage.”

Christine and the Queens teases new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine and the Queens’ new music will be “sweaty and tougher”.
The 28-year-old singer songwriter – whose real name is Héloïse Letissier – has teased what fans can expect from her upcoming LP.
Asked if it is the same kind of music as her 2014 offering ‘Chaleur humaine’, she said: “I can’t really tell much because then that would spoil the fun – but it will definitely be more sweaty and tougher.
“Maybe more high-tempo, but still really sad because I’m just me and I’m just sad deep down, but I’ll properly be able to dance on it all the time.”
The ‘Saint Claude’ hitmaker has been working on her new music since the release of her debut LP but insists it is not “difficult” to whittle down which ones to include on her new album.
She added to NME magazine: “I’ve been writing ever since it came out. I have so many songs now and I have to choose.
“It’s not really difficult, though, because I know where I want to make Christine go. I know where she’s going to be, who she’s going to be, who she’s going to be in love with and what she will be angry for.”
Meanwhile, Héloïse previously teased her new album would be “sexy and creepy”.
She shared: “I’m going to redefine what it means to be sexy, and it’s going to be creepy as hell. Because I could never do the ‘sexy’ way of being sexy.
“The first album was a coming-of-age album – I don’t like the phrase, but when you listen to it you can tell I was having a hard time, that I wasn’t socially relating to people. Since then, things have happened to me, including sexual experiences.
“I’ve experienced being properly lost in my desires and it’s really influenced my writing. I’m obsessed with the lusting female figure in pop music: I don’t know why George Michael should be able to sing ‘I Want Your Sex’ and I can’t, because I do. I want their sex as well, you know?”

Liam Payne to launch solo career in September

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne will reportedly launch his solo career in September.
The 23-year-old singer signed a record deal with Capitol in the UK and Republic in the US and will be spending a lot of time in the US over the coming months in order to promote his material, much to the unhappiness of his pregnant girlfriend Cheryl.
A source said: “Cheryl and Liam have talked a lot about his solo career and it’s caused some tension.
“While of course she wants him to succeed, and Liam is committed to being there for Cheryl and the baby, his record company are keen to move ahead with a September release for his new music and want him in the US to start doing promo work months in advance. They have big plans to crack America
“Liam has reassured Cheryl that the baby is his priority but even he’s not sure what’s going on with his schedule.”
Record label bosses are keen for Liam to get his music out as soon as possible after seeing how well his former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik has done in the US.
The source told heat magazine: “The record company are eager for him to get his music out there after seeing how well Zayn is doing in America.
“His record company are hoping to put him on big US chat shows to perform. They need him to spend some time in LA to show he’s committed.”
However, the ‘Little Things’ singer has reached a compromise with his 33-year-old girlfriend and agreed to stay in the UK for the months after their baby’s birth.
The source said: “Liam is excited about his new family and wants to keep Cheryl happy, so is willing to compromise.
“She’s putting her foot down about him making plans so soon after the birth and counting on him being there every step of the way.
“Anything less than that and Cheryl is not going to be happy about it.”
