Kasabian saving guitar music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian’s new album is about “saving guitar music”.
The group will release their long-awaited sixth, as-yet untitled, LP later this year, and guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno has promised the record will be “really positive”.
He said: “Tom (Meighan, singer) was really happy because it’s a feel-good album. It’s about saving guitar music from the abyss. Because it’s gone, they’re great songs to sing, they were made for him, for that.
“It’s way less in your face, a really positive album in a time when there’s very little. This is our contribution.”
But Serge admitted the record isn’t like much that’s around in the current charts because of his unusual influences and inspirations.
He added to Q magazine: “This is a different head. This is my problem. The biggest pop star on the planet is Ed Sheeran but in my head it’s (former Can singer) Damo Suzuki. Or Hibiscus from the Cockettes. That’s my reality and I much prefer it, thank you.”
The ‘Fire’ rocker admits writing songs can be a “hard” profession because he can go days without feeling inspired and like he’s trapped in “hell”, but it’s all worth it when he finally pens something he’s happy with.
He said: “It’s always hard. As a writer, when it comes, those are the greatest days of your life, when you’re just a vessel.
“The majority of days, you can’t even get chord you like and you’re in hell.
“Seriously, you think, ‘I hate the guitar, I want to make weird BBC radiophonic sci-fi records with no structure and Russian orchestras.”
And Serge doesn’t understand why people take his band so seriously.
He said: “There’s so much comedy in what we do. Our first single was called ‘Club Foot’, come on.
“We’re psychedelic kids from f***ing Leicester. When it gets taken seriously, you think, ‘You’re part of the joke now pal.’ You can’t fool people for six albums, you really can’t.”

Ed Sheeran made James Blunt uncomfortable

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran made James Blunt feel “uncomfortable” when they wrote songs together.
The 26-year-old singer is a co-writer on the ‘You’re Beautiful’ hitmaker’s new album ‘The Afterlove’ and James, 43, had never written material from such a personal point of view until his friend pushed him to go deeper with his feelings.
Discussing ‘Make Me Better’, a song about James’ wife Sofia Wellesley, the 43-year-old star told the Daily Telegraph: “It’s a song I’m uncomfortable with for that reason. Ed said ‘Come on, it’s your job, you veil a lot of things’, for that reason it was great to work with him.
“He is so open and he dragged me into that space.”
Meanwhile, James recently claimed he and the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker made up the story that Princess Beatrice accidentally sliced Ed’s face with a sword.
The pair hit the headlines in November when it was reported that ‘Castle on the Hill’ singer had been struck in the face with a sharp weapon by the royal as she was pretending to ‘knight’ fellow musician James at a party at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
But the ‘Goodbye my Lover’ singer has now claimed they fabricated the story in order to cover up the fact that Ed had simply cut himself whilst drunk.
He said: “Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself. We made a fancy story up; people fell for it. It was very embarrassing.”
And asked how much of the story involving the ‘Sing’ hitmaker and 28-year-old Beatrice was made up, James said: “All of it!”
Ed has also refused to comment on the subject in the past, after claiming he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to talk about it.
He said in January: “Yeah… there’s… I don’t know if I can talk about that, you know.”

Take That changed name

OHMYGOSSIP — Take That changed their name when Robbie Williams returned to the band.
The ‘Back For Good’ group welcomed their former bandmate back in 2010, 15 years after his acrimonious departure, and for a short time, they were working under the name The English because they didn’t want to “insult” their fans who were used to the line-up of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Jason Orange.
Gary said: “You’ve always got to remember what you mean to people and we constantly underestimate that.
“Even when we were bringing Rob back and becoming a five-piece, he was very sensitive to it.
“He thought we should be called something else and was like: ‘I don’t want to insult Take That fans.’
“For a while we called ourselves The English and then we were like: ‘What are we doing?’ ”
Robbie departed the band again in 2011 and the group were rocked three years later when Jason quit.
But the remaining three members tried their best to get Jason to stay, and even now still make repeated enquiries as to whether he wants to return.
Mark told Fabulous magazine: “We tried our best to convince him. We’re still in contact. We always try to keep him involved in everything that we do to some extent, so he knows what our plans are. Every now and again we drop into conversation, ‘Hey, do you fancy coming back next year?’ ”
Howard added: “We’ve been practising ‘Wooden Boat’ (which Jason has lead vocals on) and it sounds really good. We just need a vocalist!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Giants’ trio confirmed they have been offered a Las Vegas residency and may relocate their next year as 2017 will be taken up with promoting and touring their new album ‘Wonderland’.
Gary said: “We have been offered. We were thinking of doing it this year or next. I don’t know where we are up to!
“When we commit we want it to be the right thing.
“In our heads, this year is all about touring and getting ‘Wonderland’ out, but who knows about next year.”

Fleetwood Mac's fareweull tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleetwood Mac will embark on a “farewell tour” in 2018.
The ‘Rumours’ hitmakers are planning a last global jaunt to say goodbye to their fans next year, but even the members of the band are unconvinced they’re going to be bowing out.
Christine McVie said: “The 2018 tour is supposed to be a farewell tour but you take farewell tours one at a time.
“Somehow we always come together, this unit. We can feel it ourselves.”
The line-up of the group – which typically comprises Christine, her ex-husband John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks – has changed over the years with certain members leaving for periods of time, but the singer admits there is always something that draws them back together.
She said: “We’re all guilty of parting company in this band for a while. It just seems to happen. But it’s that umbilical cord that can’t be broken. It just pulls you back…
“It’s that invisible chain. It’s that alchemy. I love every minute of it. This is what I want to do. It’s what I want to invest my time and my future in from now on, so I won’t leave again.”
And her bandmate Lindsey is surprised they have stayed together for so long because they never “belonged” in the same group in the first place.
He told Uncut magazine: “Why are we even still together as a band? It’s crazy. This group of people didn’t belong in the same band together in the first place, but here we are, 40 years later.
“There have been all of the breakups and all that stuff, but there’s a lot of love underneath.”
The two musicians have collaborated on an album together, ‘Buckingham McVie’, but insist that it won’t be an ongoing project for them away from the band.
Christine said: “It really is a finite project. It’s not a career move. It’s just a nice splinter off the main artery of Fleetwood Mac.”

Mel C surprises School of Rock audience

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel C joined the ‘School of Rock-The Musical’ cast onstage for a special performance of ‘Wannabe’.
The 43-year-old singer surprised the audience at the performance of the musical in London last week, when she joined the cast to sing the Spice Girls’ classic single.
The West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘School of Rock – The Musical’ is based on the 2003 film of the same title.
It features music from the movie, as well as new music written by Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Glenn Slater.
The adult West End cast of ‘School of Rock – The Musical’ is led by comedy star David Fynn as Dewey Finn and he is joined on stage at each performance by one of three teams of thirteen young performers who make up Dewey’s band.
Meanwhile, Mel recently insisted a Spice Girls reunion will only work if all five members are involved.
The singer decided not to reunite with her bandmates Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton after Victoria Beckham opted out and Mel believes it needs all five members to work.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘The Nightly Show’, she told Davina McCall: “That’s where I’m at right now, that’s where myself and Victoria are at.
“It’s not really doing the band justice to go out as a four-piece, whoever is missing, it doesn’t matter.”
For me, Spice Girls, it’s like a jigsaw puzzle.
“It’s different to other bands because you look at Take That and they are going out as a three-piece, and they are brilliant, I love the boys.
“But with the Spice Girls everything about us was the individuality and what that created together.”

Matt Healy wants The 1975 to be the' most important' band

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Healy wants The 1975 to be the most “important” band of the decade.
The 27-year-old singer hopes his band leave behind a “legacy” of era-defining material and wants their upcoming third album to be regarded in the same way as Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’ or The Smiths’ ‘The Queen Is Dead’.
He said: “If you look at third albums, ‘OK Computer’ or ‘The Queen is Dead’, that’s what we need to do.
“I want a legacy. I want people to look back and think our records were the most important pop records that a band put out in this decade.”
And the ‘Sex’ singer hit out at bands like Imagine Dragons for the “nothingness” of their music, insisting artists ought to have something significant to say with their music.
He told Q magazine: “We’re in a very important time and pop music can be didactic, to use a word that’s a bit w***y.
“A song has to be about something. Stuff that just rhymes can go, ‘Hey oh hey oh way of, f***ing day oh.”
Explaining his belief bands who have extra drums at the front of the stage are covering their poor lyrics, he added: “If there’s not enough drums at the back, just give the drummer another drum.
“You don’t need a drum at the front.
“Songs like ‘Radioactive’ by Imagine Dragons, it might as well be called ‘Pikachy Banana’. It’s nothingness.
“There’s no space for nothingness any more and pop music has so much space for it.
“I’m not saying I’m John Lennon or Jarvis Cocker, but I will say there’s parts of our record, which has been a massive mainstream record, that have resonated with people for the right reasons, and that won’t be taken away from me.”
And Matt thinks more bands should speak up on important issues.
He said: “There seems to be this feeling that you need to be Rage Against the MAchine to say something of value. You don’t need to be Sleaford Mods.
“We obviously don’t want Zayn Malik coming out and making a record about the subsidisation of industry in the North East but there is a middle ground where people should meet.”

Nelly Furtado explains break from music

OHMYGOSSIP — Nelly Furtado took a break from music because she parted ways with her management for personal reasons.
The ‘I’m Like a Bird’ hitmaker – who has 13-year-old daughter Nevis with ex Jasper Gahunia – struggled with juggling being a mother ate the age of 22 and her music career and she was forced to take time out when her business relationship failed.
In an interview with Refinery 29, she revealed: “My life was pretty much on fast-forward from the age of 20.
“I signed my first record deal, and then it was constant juggling of my work and my home life. I became a mother at quite a young age, I was 25, then I had a long-term business relationship [with her ex-manager] who was like a father figure to me. A couple of years ago I realised we had to part ways, and when that ended I took a look at a bunch of stuff in my life, and had this urge to simplify it. I didn’t quit music, but I quit juggling. I thought, ‘I’m going to clean my own toilet and wash my own underwear!'”
The 38-year-old singer says her latest album ‘The Ride’ was her channeling her emotions creatively and realising what she wanted from life by digging out the “truth” from the people around her.
She explained: “The album is all realisations. I didn’t wanna be surrounded by bull**** anymore; I want to demand truth from the people around me and from myself. It’s about dreams not always matching up to reality and coming out of the other side.”

Kasabian album inspired by Motown

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian’s new album is inspired by Motown.
Lead guitarist Serge Pizzorno has revealed he was inspired by the head of Motown Records, Berry Gordy, and his idea of catching the ear of listeners within the first eight bars of a song when making their sixth album ‘For Crying Out Loud’.
According to London’s Evening Standard newspaper, he said: “On a grand scale we went to save guitar music from hell and be the saviours of rock and roll.
“In reality, I wanted to try and make an album full of really good, well-crafted songs.
“I was thinking about the 70s, when guitar music was hitting that beautiful point, with strong melodies and great riffs. And I was thinking about Motown and how Berry Gordy had this philosophy of, ‘Get ’em within the first eight bars.”
The ‘Shoot The Runner’ hitmakers have unveiled the full track-listing for their new record and have announced a run of intimate shows in the UK, kicking off in Llandudno Venue Cymru in Wales on April 12 and winding up at The Olympia in Dublin, Ireland on April 22.
The record – the follow-up to 2014’s ’48:13′ – features the lead track ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’.
The rock band – comprised of Tom Meighan, Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, and Ian Matthews – have been giving fans brief updates on the album over the last 12 months, and guitarist Serge recently revealed the lead single was written in 15 minutes and is a “weird anthem” for everyone who has either been in love with a psycho or is one.
In an audio clip shared on the ‘Club Foot’ group’s Instagram, Serge explained: “You’re In Love With A Psycho is one of the first tunes I wrote on the album, for the album. It took about 15 minutes. It just flowed. I didn’t really think and all the lyrics came.
“It’s a weird anthem for everyone. You’ve either been in love with one or you are one. It sort of celebrates that. You know it’s not sort of … dark.”
Serge recently said his plan with this record was to make “relevant and important”.
He previously said: “I was listening to ESG and Talking Heads and in that kind of world, then it just took on a life of its own. I just wanted to make a guitar record that was relevant and important.”
‘For Crying Out Loud’ is out on April 28.

Neil Milan left Clean Bandit because of the travelling

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit say Neil Milan left because he found it “difficult” being away from home on the road.
The ‘Rockabye’ group’s cellist Grace Chatto, 31, has claimed the violinist left the band for a number of reasons, but being away from his friends and family was one of the big reasons for his departure.
She told The Sun newspaper: “There are lots of things he didn’t like about it. He didn’t like travelling that much.
“When you start a band you don’t really think about what it entails.
“And it entailed being away from home for three years pretty solidly, and he found that quite difficult.”
The electronic pop stars are still friends with Neil but they haven’t been able to spend much time with him because of their hectic schedule.
Bass player Jack Patterson added: “We have been away so much we haven’t seen him.”
Neil left last August and told his band mates he was leaving via an email.
But the remainder of the band weren’t too surprised as they knew it hadn’t been Neil’s long-term goal to stay in the group.
Grace explained: “There has always been a lot of strings to his bow…
“We’ve always been quite committed to making it a big project. [Wasn’t Neil?] Well, he was when he was.”
Luke added: “He’d had enough.”
And the trio haven’t seen much of Neil since he left, apart from a few unplanned meetings.
Of his encounter with the musician, Luke laughed: “I was half-naked to be honest. The wrong half too.
“We were in the changing room at the gym.”
Despite them carrying on as a trio, third member Luke Patterson recently admitted they had “problems” that almost led them to split.
The ‘Rather Be’ hitmakers once considered going their separate ways, but Luke insists it wasn’t as a result of Grace and Jack ending their romantic relationship, although their split did make life in the band awkward for a while.
He recalled “It was a bit weird. With Jack and Grace, I always had to pick and choose when to stay out of the way and when to try and help, but that time [when they split] I totally stayed out of the way. It was turbulent.”
Asked if they had considered splitting, he added: “No, not in relation to that…[Why?] Just other problems.”

Future's honest album

OHMYGOSSIP — Future “put everything out there” on his new album.
The 33-year-old rapper unveiled his sixth studio LP late last month and wanted to be as real as possible with it.
He said: “On ‘Hndrxx’, I just put everything out there, I put everything on the line. I’ve got to be who I am. I’d rather for them to know who I am than for me to fake the person that I’m not. I’d rather take a chance on me than gamble on something that’s not me …
“I’ve been sad before, so why not make something that’s sad? If people in their life are sad, it’s not a bad thing. They can relate, like, ‘Damn, he feel like I was feeling.’ You feel like you’re not alone. You can relate to the poorest person on earth. They can feel like they’re not alone in this and they feel like I’ve either been through this or I’m a great-ass storyteller.”
And the ‘Used to This’ hitmaker wants to “go for the impossible” to show others it is important to “set your own destiny”.
He told The Guardian newspaper: “Anything is possible. They probably didn’t think a black man could make two No 1 albums in two weeks. You’ve got to set your own destiny and go for the impossible. That’s what we do, man. We take risks.
“I’m not supposed to make a black album because they say a black album won’t win a Grammy? We’ll just make another one until we change their impressions and change their thoughts. We could be the first one.
“I want to be the first one to change everyone’s mentality. How did you do it? I did it because I never give up. We’re the ones that go harder when they say we can’t do it. We find ways around things. We made a way when there wasn’t a way.”

Drake's More Life not Apple exclusive

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake’s ‘More Life’ project won’t be exclusive to Apple Music.
The 30-year-old rapper has been closely tied with the streaming service since its launch in 2015, having already inked a deal manifesting in two exclusive album releases, exclusive music videos, TV advertising and tour sponsorship.
However, it has been reported that Drake won’t be making his long-awaited playlist project – which is expected to drop on Saturday (18.03.17) – exclusive to Apple Music, and the tracks will also be available on Spotify and Amazon.
On Thursday (16.03.17) Spotify hinted at their involvement with the project when they tweeted: “New @Drake.#MoreLife coming soon. (sic)”
And Pitchfork magazine reports sources close to Amazon have confirmed the songs will also be available on their service at the same time as the Apple Music release.
The ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker previously announced the project would be released in December, after he debuted the tracks ‘Two Birds One Stone’, ‘Fake Love’, and ‘Sneakin’ on his Apple Music OVO Sound radio show in October.
He said at the time: “I’m off mixtapes, you know? I wanna do a playlist, I wanna give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life. So this is more like the playlist. Like I said, dropping in December, all original music from me, but you may hear some tunes from the family on there.”
Drake also admits he would like to be remembered as an “emotion-evoking artist”.
He said recently: “[I want] to keep people excited, give them new music, let them know I’m still hungry.
“I’m doing it to be remembered as a forward thinker. I want to be remembered… as an emotion-evoking artist”.

Ed Sheeran confirms Glastonbury slot

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has been confirmed as the final headliner for Glastonbury.
The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker ended weeks of speculation with an Instagram video, in which he hailed the news he will close the iconic music event at Somerset’s Worthy Farm on 25 June as “awesome”.
He said in the clip: “Hello from Turin, we’re here starting the tour off and I want to make an announcement, which is I’m headlining Glastonbury on the Sunday night, which is awesome.”
Ed – who previously played the festival in 2011 and 2014 – is joined in headlining the event by Foo Fighters and Radiohead.
Fans previously believed Ed had took the final headline spot, when a leaked line up stated the flame-haired hunk would take the main stage on the Sunday June 25.

Posting on Twitter, she wrote: “Don’t believe everything you read, our line up has not been leaked. The actual line up will be with you soon! (sic)”
Aside from Foo Fighters and Radiohead, grime superstar Wiley also seemed to confirm he would be playing one of the other stages.

Laura Mvula joins Summer of Love: Revisited line up

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Mvula has joined the line up for the Royal Albert Hall’s ‘Summer of Love: Revisited’ series.
The ‘Green Garden’ hitmaker will be joined by legendary artists, Billy Bragg, Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B and The Zombies, who will perform at the prestigious concert hall in London for an evening hosted by Classic Album Sundays’ Colleen Murphy to share the music that inspired them from the phenomenon in 1967.
Sara-Jane Power, who has curated the season, said: “We’re thrilled to present these four very special events, featuring pioneering artists talking about the music that changed their lives.
“This strand is the Time of the Season to sit back and enjoy the company of four groundbreaking acts sharing stories, reminiscences and revelations, while playing some sensational records. And as a special treat for audiophiles, we’re packing one of the world’s finest sound systems into the Elgar Room for an experience that’ll blow you away.”
Laura, 30, recently opened up about her musical inspirations.
She said: “The popular British music of the day is still very much a part of what I do I think. You know all the girl pop groups and boy bands were in their heydey when I was growing up and for me, it was really Eternal that had the biggest impact on me. So I took inspiration from all around me, and I never really felt like anything was off limits …
“My parents listened to all kinds of music and they managed to stay really open when it came to their listening habits. They would listen to a lot of church music, and a lot of Motown and a lot of classical music in the morning time. It was always broad. I mean I wasn’t particularly conscious of it, it’s just what I was exposed to and what I clicked with.”
The talks take place between May 8 and June 26.
Tickets, priced £15-18.50 go on sale on Thursday (15.03.17) at 10am from www.royalalberthall.com
